Would our Vikings be compatible?
Hello everyone, I don't tend to make a lot of threads on the Forums but I thought of a fun little idea. Since I finally turned my Viking's introduction in to some sort of an entity, I thought it'd be amusing for you to read it over and tell me if you think our Vikings (and their dragons) would get along in the SoD universe or not. Not sure if anyone will participate, but if you do, tell me why! Here is the link to the presentation.
Please do keep in mind that I don't at all write fanfictions, nor do I roleplay or anything like that, so of course it's not perfect. I just thought it'd be entertaining to give my avatar/s more depth and make a little project to kill a little time. Again, this is all for fun! I'll happily read about your Viking as well if you wish. :)
that was a fun little presentation. it definitely entertained me! seeing from your viking's personality description, i think our vikings would for sure get along. Sidvig is way too nice to not be able to get along with! our dragons, however...my woolly howl, Eclipse, is much older and mature, so she would take the role of an older sister for Carnaby and would definitely keep his troublemaking under control xD
What a cute idea!
My viking wasnt initially a character per se. But has kinda become one in her own right over the years so why not.
I feel like Sidvig would gravitate towards Nightingale given Sidvig's curious nature because Nightingale is constantly doing experiments. She's kinda like Berk's mad scientist. Her experiments, while never directly harmful and inhumane, do tend to border on the edge of morality given her penchant to create weapons (such as paralysis bombs harvested from flightmare breath or cloaks of invisibility salvaged from the shed of change wings). But she doesn't just do weapons. She also experiments in medicine such as finding a way to boil down and condense hobblegrunt breath in hopes of creating an instant health potion.
As for Nightingale's opinion of Sidvig. Probably neutral. Sidvig seems too nice. Uncannily so. But Nightingale wouldn't form any negative opinions unless it is directly warranted. She'd be polite and friendly. Either way, Nightingale herself is often sarcastic so that natural sarcasm could be misconstrued as aggression on Sidvig's part given you said that sarcasm is how Sidvig expresses distaste. Nightingale is also a huge flirt and drops sly remarks at almost every chance she gets which may be confusing for someone as seemingly earnest as Sidvig. Furthermore, Nightingale's comes across as very aloof and irreverent, seemingly incapable of taking matters seriously without dropping a snide comment or two.
As for Nightingale's dragon. Well.
If people think that Nightingale is aloof, Nightshade is basically as inaccessible as the moon. The triple stryke is incredibly cat-like in nature. She isn't prideful per se, just incredibly indifferent. About almost everything. All the time.
She sits with perfect, regal posture, her nose slightly upturned and entirely unaffected by the goings on of the rest of the world. I feel like Carnaby would have fun trying to provoke any kind of reaction out of her in his typical taunting matter.
One thing that Nightshade does seem to take seriously is racing. She and Nightingale are constantly finding ways to improve the aerodynamics of their posture and saddle to shave off milliseconds to their lap time. And since Triple Stryke's have the same stats as Night Furies, I can confidently assume that Caraby would see them as competition. Although even when she wins, Nightshade does not rub it in or gloat. Instead she acts like that was to be expected and was something entirely unremarkable, which is somehow more infuriating than actual gloating because it implies the easiness of the competition. If she loses, Nightshade doesn't seem to have much more of a reaction than a mere tilt of her head (Nightingale is a bit more passionate about these things but even she believes it to be weak to show anger or annoyance at losing).
Hahaha! The one-sided rivalry between Carnaby and Nightshade sounds like it would be hilarious to watch
Randomly popping in to say I didn't know you were Sidvig. XD
Yeah, I had no idea. But now I know! XD
Awh Carnaby is so precious, and your character is lovely :3
As for your question - my viking started off as a simple SoD character as well, and she's changed so much now that I've worked on her more. Like I saw someone else say, it'd be hard for anyone to dislike Sidvig xD my viking, Eowyn, is very coldhearted and slow-to-warm up to anyone at all but I imagine she'd eventually tolerate Sidvig's more light-heartedness. They'd definitely have some solid time in competing against each other though aha. Eowyn becoming a protective older sister-type friend comes to mind, tbh, not sure if that'd be accurate to Sidvig or not lol.
I picture that Grim, Eowyn's dragon, would get along well with Carnaby - he's a very playful fella and forgets that he's twice the size of most other dragons xD
Anyway, that's my thoughts lol - your slideshow was really nice and I found myself genuinely interested in your viking and her dragon :3 good job!
Nice idea! I like the ways you describe their personality traits xD
I think Sidvig would become closer to my second Viking Elle. Elle is a very quiet, soft person, but once you get to know her, she can be a bit more fun and outgoing! I think they could have lost of fun competing and challenging each other.
Now as for Carnaby, I haven't thought of a personality for Elle's main dragon yet, so I'll just use Tanami instead. He's a playful dragon, and I could see him bugging Carnaby to do something fun with him. But I can also see them being grumpy together XD
I find it strangely convenient how this topic seems to revolve around characterization the same time I'm building up personality on the protagonists of an original novel I'm currently writing o.O
So! Compabitability!
I do think Sidvig and Emlaisse could get along just fine, seeing as both have similar personalities, especially for being relaxed and laid-back. As for dragons... Carnaby and Jackpot, I feel, would both butt heads given their respective behaviors. Both (from what I read and could assume) are prideful and have differing personalities to the Riders, although Jackpot's I can say is a bit more violent than Carbanaby's. He's... well, a grouch. And a brat. Lol.
So if Sidvig and Emlaisse got together, I'm sure both could get along nicely. Just never bring the dragons. Cat fight would be an understatement, hahaha.
I think Elsyon and Sidvig would really like and respect each other, but would probably never become super close because of their diverging interests. Elsyon is quite an independent person, but she likes to form personal relationships, so Sidvig's laid-back stance would make it a bit harder for them to get close. Since they have such different traits, Elsyon would really admire Sidvig having a lot of different behaviors that she doesn't, but she'd respect her more than anything, and that would mean she wouldn't want to get super close.
Meteor and Carnaby would be a different story though ;) They'd be besties and get up to tons of mischief together! They're both really sensitive and loyal and would bond over their love for their riders! Meteor loves playful, strong personalities, so she'd be drawn to Carnaby's playful side! She also loves paint and sweaters and would help Sidvig force Carnaby to wear them XD They'd be really friendly and constantly prank each other!
Hehehe thanks XD Can I just say, I think both your OC and dragon are really cool characters! You've clearly thought them out really well :D
I went through and drew your characters, you know that, but I low-key wonder what you think on the matter that and I literally just want to interact on here I'm bored sjdndj
Danee is a Celtic farmer who spends a lot of their time tending to the farm and dragons that help her on the "ranch", where she takes care of wounded, found, and even totally fine dragons who come her way in exchange for help around the area. She is fairly self reserved but is loud and boisterous once you get to know her. When out in town it's often to get supplies or to give people medicine she makes out of the local flora.
Despite helping raise dragons, the first one she came across was a Timberjack she named Morrigan. Morrigan originally came across the farmer by stealing fish and cattle to feed themself. Once the two bonded through a shared experience of almost dying, the dragon learned to trust the human and began to bring around other dragons. Morrigan is a stubborn, yet helpful dragon who is willing to help if you gain her trust.
I've been sketching out concepts that I'll have to post when I get home >:]
Thank you!
I'm glad our Vikings would get along. I can assure you Carnaby probably wouldn't be all too pleased with your dragon's attempts to keep him in check, but eventually he'd abide. It's kinda sweet haha!
