Sunset shook herself and stretched, yawning. She tossed the amulet back to Abyssal, feeling her magic coming back. "Your turn." She winked and sat up. Scorpion gave her a look that said 'what'. Sunset shook her head.

Abyssal looked over at Sunset for a moment, fighting down his rising panic. If he returned home now... He was dead, so dead, so very very dead... "You actually think she cares that much?" The voice asked. "Just leave me along, gosh... Get a better hobby..." Abyssal weakly replied, feeling reality start to fade as old memories flooded his brain.

Sunset looked at Abyssal, her face full of concern. "Abyssal, are you ok??" Sunset asked. She sat next to him and gently brushed her wing on his.

He flinched slightly, fighting desperately to not lose himself. It had been a while since he'd shut down like this, he thought that he was over it... But clearly not... He dimly heard Sunset talking, but couldn't understand her words.

Sunset tried calling to Abyssal a few more times but didn't work. "No no no no." She opened her mind to the animus. "Did you do this?!" She demanded. "Um no." The animus hissed

Sunset thought for a moment. "Come on, Claw. Think." Sunset muttered. Scorpion tapped Sunset. "I don't think you can do anything, Sunset." Scorpion said. "I have to do SOMETHING!" Sunset cried. "He's trapped in his thoughts, so he probably can't hear you, so sit down and wait." Scorpion forced her to sit down by pushing on her shoulders.

Abyssal felt contact leave and tried to use that to pull himself out. He was better than this... He dug his claws into his palms, drawing blood. He took a deep shuddering breath and shook his whole body, feeling his mind start to surface.

Sunset immediately started struggling in Scorpion's grip. "I'm not just going to stand here and do nothing! Let go!" Sunset growled. Scorpion held onto her tight though, not letting her go. "I said let go!" Sunset yelped. "No! Abyssal needs to get through this himself, you can't help him with his thoughts." Scorpion said.

Sunset exhaled in relief. "Oh good. I was worried there for a bit." Sunset said. "But did you HAVE to elbow me in the ribs, Sunset?" Scorpion complained, rubbing his side. "I told you to let me go more than once, so you had it coming." Sunset retorted. She turned back to Abyssal. "Wasn't the animus?" She asked, still concerned

Heather’s dream

She had a weird dream again that night--or day. It started out rather peaceful, flying into an island which was covered in forest. She tucked her wings in and dropped, letting the breeze catch her. This was it, Pantala. She saw some clouds flying her way, dark clouds. That was a bad thing, especially if it was going to rain... but the dark clouds took over the sky with their large talons, shrouding her in darkness, and a dark dragon glitched into view. She stared at it, taking a light step back, but then a familiar voice...

Interesting. You've found your way back here.

No, it's just my dreams, don't I have the necklace on?
OH, that necklace. It was so easy to get rid of the first time with all of Robin's trauma. You think I didn't use one of the others to rid of it this time?
'You monster!' she cried, but all she could do was stare into the ebony black scales of how the animus revealed itself.

I'll still lead you to 'the animus' if you want, but on your end you tell nobody. That necklace won't be coming back to you any time soon anyway, so leave the amulet to the others.

'I DON'T WANT TO PLAY YOUR GAMES,' she hissed aloud, 'Get. Out. My. Head.'

It's a fair deal. Just because I AM the animus doesn't mean that I can't do a fair deal with you.

'You could k.ill me at any time! Why should I let you into my head?!'

There was a pause of silence as thunder echoed in the distance, rain pouring down over her and the animus.
You poor little dragon. You've been refraining from showing any sign of guilt from not being able to save Dawnbreaker all this time. You've only lost a dragon once before... but I can make you lose more. Don't tell your so-called 'friends', or else they might have a little trouble making it through the night.

Heather was terrified. She had never met a dragon who could tell all of your secrets better then herself and a couple of mind readers before. But this was another level.

'So now you're just throwing Threats at me? You're going to k.ill off my friends if I don't what?'

If you tell anyone you and your friends will d.ie. Don't even mention me, don't say any lies or that Sunset will know.

'What? How?'

Do you seriously still not know about the pin? She has an enchanted pin to sense lies with.

She paused in her tracks of thoughts. That explained.. a lot..

'Fine! I'll only do this to keep my friends safe.'

Then she realised she had taken a part of a deal that never included the animus not getting inside her friend's heads. The black dragon in front of her smiled.

'A little too late for that,' they said at normal volume. A burst of pain flew through her skull and she yowled aloud, latching onto her head. But the agony faded quickly, and her vision swirled into the same island she had been on before she fell asleep. It was now sunset, but all she could focus on as she tried to look up at the sky, relax, think to herself, was; Just a dream. I still have the necklace on.

She looked down at her neck and...

There was no necklace there.

Don't fail me, little dragon, whispered everything around her as it all set into one scene, the right scene. And then the sun started to fall as night approached.

Sage had flopped down onto the grass and fallen asleep in the sun almost immediately after they reached the island. But her dreams were filled with dragons dying and assassins and that animus she couldn't stop worrying about. They featured guesses of what Pantala would look like and what disasters could ensue once they reached it. She kept drifting in and out of sleep, disturbing thoughts plaguing her mind. And when she blinked open her eyes to see the sun sinking below the horizon, all she could think was... What if something goes wrong? What if we lose someone again? What if we wake up in the morning to find one of us dead? She didn't think she could bare to lose another dragon like that, no warning, no chance to say goodbye, and by the claws of that heartless animus.

Sunset looked down. "If only I had kept my end." She thought sadly. None of her friends would be dealing with this situation if she had just kept quiet. Sunset squeezed her eyes shut, feeling guilt start to overwhelm her.

Heather was decidedly NOT freaking out. Her scales were the same as always and- she stopped the green and white from creeping in. No. She was fine. She saw Sunset with eyes on her, clearly looking at the spot the necklace had been.
'Did you see anything take it?' she asked quickly.

Trust me, you won't be getting it back. I know where it is.

Not helpful, she snapped back grimly. She looked at the sky, and then around. Nothing was unusual; Robin was asleep on one side of the island, Brick and Wrath were asleep on the other, that was pretty much it. No animals flying away with necklaces.

'I'm-- I mean, the necklace is missing,' she said, calming herself down. She was trying not to lie, under the animus' orders. Following their orders. Would I follow their orders to the end of the world at the risk of my friend's life?!

I'd make you, it growled, while Heather thought, only if it meant I wasn't hurting them.

You can't MAKE ME, she hissed in response.

I'm an ANIMUS. I can do what I like, it responded, an eerie smile behind its words. She shook her head, trying to shake the voice out. Of course it did nothing, so she tried ignoring it. Despite her attempts she still heard everything it said, which wasn't very helpful.

"I know." Sunset said. "Apparently thst was a waste of my soul thanks to a certain ANNOYING ANIMUS." Sunset snapped, half to the animus in undoubtedly somebody's head. She swished her tail in annoyance

Heather shook her head but said nothing. There wasn't anything to be said; even the animus had gone silent in her head, or left.

'I'm going back to sleep,' she said, finally noticing that the sun had already gone down..

'Goodnight.'

"No, it wasn't the Animus, I'm fine..." Abyssal mumbled, slipping away as soon as Sunset's attention turned to Heather. He stepped into the water, now just embarrassed that he lost control like that. He quietly swam out even further, diving down so that hopefully no one would bother him. Sunset would have a hundred questions that he didn't feel like answering.

Sunset laid down again, snorting and backing up as water accidentally got in her snout. She sneezed and shook her head. "Well, that's what I get for getting too close." Sunset said to herself. She splashed the water with her tail, feeling relief as it cooled the barb down.

Scorpion nudged her and grinned. "Still not too comfortable with water?" Scorpion asked. "Ehhhh I should probably put swimming practice on my list." Sunset said, smiling slightly. Scorpion suddenly shoved her in the water mischievously. She yelped and pounced on Scorpion, rolling with him playfully.

After a long time, Abyssal figured that he couldn't hide forever. He felt much better now, and needed to be around for his team. He swam back towards the shore, watching the small, colorful fish dart away from him. He looked up just to see a Sandwing splash into the water right in front of him. Abyssal narrowly dodged the tail barb, and popped out of the water, looking around for the attack.
