Tunnel Vision (DoB: Ep. 4)
Whelp, as of yesterday, the new episode of Defenders of Berk is out. And you all know what that means right? 8D
Fair warning, there are a few spoilers for this episode up ahead!
Screaming Death. Officially one bad-donkey of dragon. Reminds me of the Red Death in the sense that the other dragons follow it around, feed it, and obey it. The lack in numbers of the Whispering Deaths in comparison to the eggs makes me worry they've eaten off the rest of their siblings to survive, sort of how like hyenas and some species of sharks.
And I've noticed something after re-watching a few episodes and seeing this new one:
There are no opening/closing monologues of Hiccup's and the beginning/ending of each episode. It's rather bothersome to me since it's one of those little things I've come to love in the series. I'm sincerely hoping they bring them back in the coming episodes.
yea ur totally right i didnt noticed
I noticed that too. I knew something was different from the first episode.
Still have to watch it. Hope someone put it up online today as I don't have cable. Been excited ever since the trailers to see the Screaming Death.
That episode was EPIC! The best one yet of the season! Non-stop action! SO COOL!
I just watched it online a few minutes ago. It. Was. AWESOME. I LOVE the Screaming Death so much! It is like the Red/Green Death (I keep saying red/green because while officially it was supposed to be the Red Death, I think, it was green in the movie and I believe there was a Green Death in the books? I haven't really read them...)
Anyways, it's like the Red/Green Death, but slimmer, faster, smarter, way more bad-donkey, it can actually fly and make sense that it flies, it's ALBINO (love albino critters cause they're different), and it's just... so..soo epic. 8,D

I loved it. This season keeps getting better; I worry it'll reach the point where it'll give me a breakdown... xD It has better plots, better animation, better themes, better characterization (especially of Tuff/Ruff), better everything. And I did enjoy Riders of Berk.
The battle against the Screaming Death was beyond epic (I giffed it whole... A stellar example of What Nerds Do On Their Days Off). Also I think either Hiccup's head is rock hard, or he's already suffering of severe brain damage, after all the falling he did! xD I'm so glad he didn't lose another limb (although the screaming death isn't dead yet, so the last word wasn't spoken yet).
Wishful thinking: I hope this new threat forces Hiccup and Dagur together to kill it. Mainly, Hiccup would have to work through a teeny flaw of his... His tendency to get much too snarky, almost cruel, when he's got the upper hand - exactly what he did to Dagur. The guy is, well, deranged, and overall dangerous, but he actually seemed to care for Hiccup in his crazy, dragon-killing-pal way. And what did Hiccup do? Insult and offend him as soon as he got Toothless back with him. I can't help but think he really didn't have to openly admit to deceiving him and call him a fool. In a pragmatic sense, because he just about made Berk another dangerous enemy, and Thor knows Alvin is a handful already. In the other sense... Dagur actually seemed pained by it.
I love that Hiccup is so well characterized as to display such flaws and I hope he'll aknowledge it and try to improve himself. This new archenemy would be a nice way to bring him and Dagur together - Hiccup would learn to drop some of his hurtful talk, Dagur to respect dragons, or at least to stop killing them.

Sorreh xD
Yeah, I mean... we've all heard Stoic's story about how his father told him to hit a rock with his head when he was only a boy, and the rock split in two. So...yeah, must be genetics. Also...aside from an early awkwardness, Hiccup doesn't seem to really mind losing his foot.
I kinda support Hiccup-Dagur Alliance, but I don't think it will happen. Not after the way they ended things in 2.3.
I almost peed myself, the Screaming Death is TERRIFYING ;_;
Oh man, the Screaming Death was so awesome! I just love how it can instill so much fear to me just by watching it. It's fire power/shots was also unbelievably amazing.
Man, wouldn't it be cool if Hiccup and his gang was able to tame it? That'd teach Alvin a thing or two, haha.
Without doing too much rehashing of what's already been said (most of which I agree with), I think this is without a doubt the best DoB episode thus far.
And the Screaming Death is, without a doubt, one BAD mofo... I mean, the thing has a built-in flamethrower machine gun! O.O (Side note: anyone else notice its mouth and jaw shape is very reminiscent of the Red Death from the movie? It's way too different to be just some mutant Whispering Death, so I'm guessing it's a new species. Then again, it was mixed in with the WD eggs... but that's a pretty significant mutation, to lose the rotating rings of teeth.) When I saw that thing pop out of the ground and start causing mayhem, I was just like...
As my dad would say, he(?) probably has some, uh, irregularity in his background.
And I don't think this is a tameable villain-dragon... Yes, it'd be so expletively epic if they did tame it, but I don't think they will. Hey, maybe Alvin will try to control it, and it'll turn its White Fury (what?) on the Outcasts! Problem solved. XD
Seen it right now. Awesome, really! Not only because of action, but also some gags are hilarious at top level. The most hilarious thing, however, is the fact that even Berk has water well problems, and so I am able to finally figure out what is the issue with mine (not working since september): I have a nasty nest of Whispering Deaths under my farm. I should have known it: mess all around, chickens vanishing, game freezing in fear...
Only a criticism: it's most unlikely that the Screaming Death can fly. And when it comes out right in front of Hiccup, its fluttering is too slow to allow such a little wingspan to fly a huge monster like that.
EDIT:
Kirjava, that's an episode where almost every sketch is good for making gifs! I'll look at them on your page and maybe steal one or two. Thanks for your work!
It is my favorite DoB and probably RoB episode yet! <3
I still wonder how they grew so fast, and I was kind of starting to understand why Shark could not control his fire (in- y'know, that RP thingie!). About the other Whispering Death babies getting eaten (o.O)- I think they stayed to... spy? xD
Screaming Death was terrifying, can't wait to see more of it.
I know it's all about the Screaming Death and Whispering Deaths and such, but... I also really enjoyed watching the riders' dragons too! They're really well-acted by the animators, and have just as much intelligence and personality as their riders. I especially got a kick out of Hookfang, partially because I've been RPing with a Monstrous Nightmare recently and partially because his expressions and behavior are just completely hilarious! XD
I'm in the same boat as you, but I can tell you it is online. I just don't know about posting outsite links and what-not here.
