Today I was racing with a friend in Thunder Run Racing , and I just got inspired.
I got inspired to teach you some tips , and say what you shouldn't do.I will teach you all I know.

Warning: Please note that these are my opinions; You may not agree with them , but please don't be rude. Of course you can leave your opinion below , but don't be rude.
I'm just asking for you to behave like a mature person. Thanks!

TIPS:

-Go trough the rings. This was said a lot of times , but believe me. In the end of the race you will get a better place.
-Press the space bar before you start the race. It gives you more accelaration.
-Found a dragon that suits you. What does this mean? This means that you should race with a dragon that you trust in more. Mines are my Deadly Nadder Blue , and my Sand Wraith Predator.
-Just go Single Player. Know the track. Find the shortcuts. It will help a lot .
-Go with your dragon happiness in 100%. When dragons are really happy , they race faster.
-If you are using a dragon that doesn't have good turning , then when you are making a turn , slow down a little bit.It will help , trust me.

WHAT YOU SHOULDN'T DO:

This is the part where my opinions are . *Prepares for a big storm*

-Do not shoot at people.Just no. It will slow YOUR dragon. You know when you shoot and then the player you just shoot is more ahead of you?
I only shoot when the person puts a trap RIGHT onto my face.
-Do not use boosts. It annoys so much. I only use the shield , to protect me from other player's traps.  I use the boost when I am too far from the others. And that's it.
-Don't cheat. 'nuff said.
-Don't race with a lot of people. If you are still a new racer , then don't go to races with 5 players. They would win you just like that. If you are still not that good racing don't do it.

That's it.Hope you like it! You can add more tips if you want. :)
Oh wait , wait!
One more thing: Stop saying that dragons like the Gronckle and the Hotburple can't win. Please. I already beated so many Toothlesses and Skrills.
You only need you , your dragon , and skill.

boosts cant be gotten when

boosts cant be gotten when you are in first place they are there for the people in this situation ornes like it

your in fourth place on a gronkle as a skrill, toothless and a nightmare are blazeing ahead and you just got a boost

its there so that being in last place itns a death sentence for the race and theya re pretty rare anyway

boosting is just as bad as putting gas or traps in spots its near impossible to dodge and they can mess you up if you do it wrong

and its not the end of the world if you lose you dont lose money you just lose trophys and normaly its only three people so you rarely ever LOSE any sure the end boost is annoying sometimes but its a legit way its not exploiting or hacking

and whats the point of trophys? It dosent reward you that much for winning so why is everyone so wraped up in it?

those clans that dont even like you and just want you to win them trophys,They dont even care about  or like you!

the leaders of those ofton only like you because you win more trophys then the others and will kick you out like when a farmer harvests animals when they stop making milk or eggs  and kick thm out...of the liveing

you are a resource to most of them

and most of those clans kick you out if you dont win a ton of trophys

clans where ment to be a team of friends not something for the leader to harvest like a chicken farmer

be careful who you join because loyalty is a wonderful thing but not whne it is given to the wrong person

Yeah you will only lost some

Yeah you will only lose some trophies. I don't really know about the others , but I prefer to still have some dignity than win with a boost in the last second. I only do that , IF the person did something to me.
About the clan thing... I am in The Zeal Predators. We are loyal and really nice.I don't know about the others.
I love my clan!

i dont like last minute

i dont like last minute boosts either but its part of the game and they wont change it without messing something up along the way..when ever we ask for change they make it like a catch they are like ginies (is that how you spell it?)

i wish i could jump high!

ok now your a frog!

i wish to undo my last wish

ok your not a frog anymore now but your legs are on backwards

ok i wish for my legs to be forwards

ok now they are broken and you will never walk again!

thats kinda like SoDs bug fixes!

and its good to see some of the clans are friendship based dont change

Totally agree with this

I agree with all of these and on the off chance there is a new racer on the forum let me repeat the big 3 for a fair race in my opinion:

1) Please don't shoot. Yes, there is a fire button, and yes it is tempting when the target auto-locks for you and is just hanging there but don't do it. It is annoying and can severely damage someones ability to race. Especially in cases where dragons like nightmare and skrill are involved because it can take a long time for them to rech their maz speeds, that said don't do it to any racer.

2) Boosts are okay, I mean they're technically not cheating, but try to refrain from using them too much or at bad times. I mean whats worse than getting near the end of the last lap and someone who was three seconds behind decides to boost into first place at the end, that doesn't give anyone the chance to try and catch up.

3) Lastly, do not drop boxed on peoples faces, this is the worst one for me and it's directed to the more experienced racers. Nothing is more annoying than repeatedly ctching up to second or third place only to be sent back with a trap box or zippleback gas. It's just rude not to mention feels desperate.

Anyways these are just my opinions, people will race however they want regardless of what other people say. Just try to have fun and let other racers do the same :) thank you!

Yup I agree -_-

It's also terrible when you having a genuinely good, fun race where say three good racers are neck and neck for the entire race and then someone in fourths boosts up to first making it so that one fair racers has to actually lose trophies. I only say this because this literally happened to me an hour ago...

But yeah I really hate boosts too, they are not cheating I get that, but I refuse to use them anyaways

And that's intellectuall with 4 Ls...yes

Dunno why but I feel like replying to this now :/ :P
Honestly, I try to only use speed boosts when someone is on an OP dragon like a Shockjaw or Snow wraith.  Since I usually use my sand wraith, and sometimes my skrill or woolly howl, it can be har.d to win when going up against increadibly skilled racers using an OP dragon.  To me, what's really annoying is:  You are pretty much tied with a player for 1st place, u are almost in front of them, the player u are behind drops a box or gas in your face, u end up in 5th or 6th place :/.

Boosts blah

I'm a bad racer, so when I try to use boosts, they never work out!

With the other items though, I kind of like them. It feels like Mario Kart! The bad side is that most of the tracks don't have a lot of room to go around traps, so if someone sets one and you are right on their tail, it's a bad day.

Shooting is quite annoying. I don't do it unless someone shot me first. Then I get even. ;)

Finally, great advice for new racers! I'm still learning a lot about racing and I try to only do racers with 3 people. That way, I can learn, improve and still get at least a couple trophies.

Thanks!

I only use them when they are needed. But the tracks don't help on using the boost.
Well , my advice is try to observe how experienced racers race. And train a lot on Single player!
Right now , I am a decent racer , but in the beginning , I was awful! You will learn.

Actually I would recommend using the speed boost in the tracks that are mostly straight (Forbidden Ice for example)

My 2 cents

I'd like to add a few things in here if I may (my opinions of course):

1. Race, race, race. Race everyone, don't back down. The only way you will get great (w/o cheating) is to race the best. I learned how they raced, where they took shortcuts, etc. Practice what you learn on single mode. Come to thunder run to race not sit in the queue. I don't understand why so many vikings just sit in the queue and never race.

2. When you get into the track queue click "ready to race". Why do so many allow the timer to count down? By allowing a 4th or more racers in, someone will lose trophies. Could be you. And don't leave queue just as timer is about done.

3. Now for my personnal pet peave (outside of fire trolls). If you finish a race in 1st, please be courteous of other racers and stay in the race until everyone has finished or the 20 second timer finishes. What's your rush? Allow beginners the chance the get as much racing in as possible. I've even stopped short of the finish line to allow newbies to catch up some. I use to hate when racers would leave as soon as finishing. It would crash the game at times back then. Not sure if it still does.

thank you for your time...see you at the track

totally agree for don't shoot at people

I really agree with "Don't Shoot at People". Last night when i was racing, someone shot me several times. I am at 1st position when we were racing. I can't remember what dragon she used, but that dragon has different style of fire. I couldn't control my dragon because someone shot me like that.

Then, when i joined the second race she could beat me. And I tried to shoot her back. But Shooting at her just make my dragon slower. And in the end, i got the last position.

Do you have any tips to make my deadly nadder fly faster in Thunder Run Racing? (besides my dragon must have 100% happiness or using a boost)

So True

I used to be a terrible racer until I learned about shortcuts and controlling your speed.

Another Tip: Switch dragons according to the track

I race with a Sand Wraith, and sometimes use my Skrill, I think the Sand Wraith is much easier to control and turns a lot better, but the Skrill, just wow, once your get to max speed you are leaving other racers in the dust.

That's why I use Sand Wraiths for tracks like Wooly Canyon or Fortune Falls where there are a lot of twists and turns so I can maximize my advantage. For tracks like Forbidden Ice or Frozen Warrior where it's all about speed or shortcuts, my Skrill comes out to play.

If you don't have these dragons, go with the Zippleback in place of the Sand Wraith and the Nadder in place of the Skrill.

Tip 2: Go Everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE in single player racing.

Sometimes you get lucky and learn of a new shortcut from a fellow racer when you're behind them. However, most of the time when you attempt to follow them, you get caught on an invisible wall that you didn't know to avoid or you lose them among the twists and turns of the map. And then you're stuck off-track with no idea where to go.

My advice? Watch where they go, but don't follow. Go to single player track afterwards and find the opening of the shortcut that you just saw. Fly in, and use all the time you want to search for that sweet spot that allows you to cut a part of the track.

Tip 3: Not all shortcuts are good

I learned this the hard way. I had found so many shortcuts in Fortune Falls after spending half an hour exploring the track, and I was so ready to race there.

The problem? Many of the shortcuts in Fortune Falls require navigating very tiny crevices in rock walls or making very tight turns. If you make it, good for you, but if you don't, you risk running into walls and reducing your speed drastically.

It's simply not worth the risk, not for the tiny distance that you can skip. So unless you're VERY sure that you will not crash, do not take the shortcuts that require very finicky flying.

Since you brought up the dragons to use if u didn't have a Skrill/Sand Wraith, I would also like to recommend getting a Shockjaw, they are awesome in racing.  IDK if u were just choosing starter dragons for a replacement so I just thought I would throw it out there :).

Really?

Yeah, I was choosing starter dragons for replacements as not everyone is willing to spend money on gems or wait weeks and weeks to get a new dragon. So I wanted to let the beginners know which ones were best too.

Are Shockjaws good for racing? I never tried using mine, Naveera, as my Skrill Electrova and Sand Wraith Thundricane serve me very well. I might try it out sometime, Naveera would like the thrill of racing.

Yes, they are very good.  I have beaten every type of dragon with mine.  Its possible to beat them with ohter dragons (I have beaten some on my Skrill/Sand Wraith), but they are worth the gems IMO.

As an addition to good gem dragons, I would recommend a Snow Wraith (if u are willing to face the horrible wraith of everyone on some other dragon XD) for racing.  They dominate, but some ppl (such as myself) generally refuse to race one unless they are on one.

Alright, I know this post is

Alright, I know this post is kinda old, but I thought I would give some tips myself (sorry if someone already mentioned these)

1.)  Speed isn't always good:  Speed bosts are great, but not always.  If you are going to use a speed boost, make sure you are in a place that requires minimal turning.  If you are in a place that requires lots of sharp turns, don't use a speed boost, chances are people will catch up to you because it is VERY hard to turn while using speed.

2.)  (NOTE: this one is an OPINION, if u do not agree, that is your choice, just do not be rude about it plz.)  Don't be annoying with powerups:  Ignoring this one might allow you to win, but it will get u lots of hate.  I fully support the use of powerups, I feel it makes the race more interesting.  However, don't be a jerk and just drop a drop-box on someone's face.  Be skillful and try to place it somewhere useful like in front of a ring, just not on the other person's face (sometimes it is a coincidence.)

3.)  Look for new short cuts.  Go on single player sometimes and fly around EVERYWHERE looking for shortcuts.  You never know, you might find a new short cut.

4:  (Again, an OPINION)  Don't be mad a ppl who win:  If someone beats u, don't be mad, try and watch how they race to get some tips on where to go yourself.

5.)  Try and get people to race with you:  Try and ask your friends if they wanna race, that way you won't have to wait for a million years to finally get someone to check the racing box.

6.)  If u can't do 5, switch servers:  If there are not enough people or you do not have friends that are racing u, switch servers, there might be one with more racers on it.

7.)  Be confident:  DOn't back down cause of a player's level or what dragon they use.  If you can't win, its OK, watch them and see what you can learn.  I learned 90% of the shortcuts I know from doing this.  This is also an oppertunity for you to see if you think you would race well on a certain dragon.  So if someone keeps winning on a Shockjaw, it lets you know to get a Shockjaw next time there is a sale or something.  AND what dragon you use doesn't matter exactly.  Yes, certain dragons are better than others in certain tracks, but u can win no matter what dragon u use.  Dragons such as the Gronckle can win, it just takes someone with a little more skill and knowledge of teh track.  Don't doubt yourself just cause someone is riding a Toothless and you are on a Gronckle, it is still possible for you to win :D.

((Sorry for the really long post :P))

Amazing tips! :)
(I want to keep this thread always with new tips , so doensn't matter if it is old.Keep posting if you want! :) )

1.)  Yup. Good tip for new racers. I only use boosts if someone pusts traps right onto my face , if people shoot a lot at me , and if I am too far away from the others.
2.)  YUP.THANKS! I don't use boosts anymore (only the shield and the speed bost , but only in the situations I said in the number one.
3.)  Yeah , I do that :p
4:  I do that to. Sometimes I race with racers from The Phantom Lords , or Brothers of Courage , and I like to watch their moves :p
5.)  I just change servers.
6.)  I do that.
7.) Please.I win so with Gronckles. I hate when people say that just because they are kinda fat , it doesn't mean they can''t be fast.Ok , Meatlug in the series is a lazy dragon , but that doens't mean that all of them are.

Thanks for adding tips! :)

Thanks for saying that I had Amazing tips :D and we should keep this thread going for when new players join or when people just need some tips.  As far as Gronckles, not one of my personal favorite dragons, but I have been beaten on my Sand Wraith by ppl with Gronckles before.  And I am a VERY experienced racer.  Yeah, Meatlug is kinda lazy, but the dragons stats in the game ren't exactly canon with the show so it doesn't really mean anything.

New tip :D

Ok I have new tips

8.)  Never Race a Hacker:  If u spot a Speed or any type of hacker, even a backwards racer, don't keep racing them.  Report them if u wish, but don't keep racing them, u will not learn anything and will likely lose trophies.  This was brought to my attention cause of the new speed hacker (Hugo Swat I think) that is going around.

9.)  Don't be directly behind ppl:  Don't fly right behind someone, especially if they are a box dropper or zippleback gas dropper.  Fly to the side or above/below them.

10.)  Know who u are racing:  There are lots of ppl like me who are very active on TRR.  If u seem to race the same person (people) a lot, learn their strategy.  This won't only help u learn the track (most of the time), but also allows u to see how to deal with this racer.  So if u support traps and powerups (if u don't this one doesn't really concern u), learn what shortcuts and stuff they use so u can place one on where they go.  Or if not, and they use powerups, see where they like to put them so u don't accidentally run into a box or something ;)

TRR question

Okay so this is more of a question than a tip, here it goes. Today during TRR I raced a bunch like usual, then a large group of talented racers joined. I beat them for the first two races but then something strange happened after that. Around the middle to end of second two races me and two other racers slowed down dramatically. It was like we weren't even accelerating any more, almost like we were flying through zippleback gas, everywhere. I know I hit zippleback gas when someone dropped it on me but to my knowledge that's supposed to wear off. We moved very slowly all the way to the end of the race while the trio of racers I mentioned earlier all zoomed past, they had finished the race thirty second ahead and that never happens. I was timed out and lost trophies. And I know that the other racers next to me were affected to because the skrill and thunderdrum (who both have great max speeds) were barely moving too.

So was this a glitch, bad racers, cheaters, or an effect of zippleback gas? Is this normal, does anyone know?

Pretty much it was a glitch.

Pretty much it was a glitch. But , it can be hackers , you never know.
I've never had that glitch/hack on me. The worst I had was racing with a person , and the race barely started and he already had won it.Plus I lost 5 trophies (as everyone in there).

Racing, my 'domain'

No just kidding, racing isn't my domain XD I've been around for 2 years now so I've been racing for a pretty long time. Just saying but this post is long... Sorry for nagging. Actually I doubt anything I say will actually hlp. I'm a horrible teacher.

I wasn't around during the Hackers age( when they came about) but I'll tell you this: racing now was nothing like racing in the past. I timed myself actually on Frozen Warriors. Last time my fastest timing was 1.19 WITHOUT boosters, or any saddle (I usually ride bareback). Now, I race the same way I used to, no boosters still, no saddle, and my timing? 1.30. Sorry it's just frustrating. The only way I can get 1.20 on Frozen Warriors is if I use the Wild Nadder Saddle. It's pretty annoying really.

Oh and little fact: after every race, the happiness of your dragon decreases by about 5. I usually have a lot of dragon nip for that (harvesting dragon nip is really easy plus you can level up your farming skills)

About shooting... I know how frustrating it is to be shot at a lot and every experienced racer is complaining about that. The newer racers are probably having the time of their lives but please, don't shoot. Takes time to reach for the button and all and half the time it doesn't work. Except for a few dragons which are part of the newer species.

Anyway, yes, you should race with a dragon you are familiar with. Every dragon's stats are different so if you are familiar with a Nadder race with it. Don't race with a Gronckle or something unless you are sure you know how to race it. I found that out when I did a little single player racing. Their turning speeds are different which makes a lot of difference actually. I am most familiar with my Nadder. She's the first dragon I got so of course. I only use 3 dragons in TRR. Have 5 in total. I use my Nadder, Zippleback, and WD. I mainly race with my Nadder though. I just got my Zippleback so I'm trying to get used to him. Also, try not to bang into walls at the sides of the tracks. Those are really annoying. You think you'll only slow down by 2 seconds? 2 seconds is really important. Don't waste it away ;) it can make a lot of difference

Also, try not to use speed boosts unless you're really extra far behind. Try to be fair. If you want to use other boosts at any part of te race fine by me. I also figured out you should pinpoint certain areas to release those boosts. Personally I don't even collect boosts. You sometimes travel extra distance to get it and it costs time. 3/4 of the boosts are useless to me anyway.

That being said, I wish everyone Thor speed XD have a nice fair race, be happy, don't sulk that you lost (take it as a learning experience) and keep practising! Hope to see all racers in TRR ;)

I agree 100% with everything

I agree 100% with everything you said. Don't mind to do long posts please! We need to get all the tips we can :)
I only use the shield because it protects me when I can't dodge the traps; And I only use the speed boost when I am really far away.

Speed boosts are really niche

The first time I used a speed boost was by accident. I was racing in Gronkle run and I accidently pressed a speed boost power up when I was going to press the accelerate button after releasing it to make a tight turn. I was immediately launched forward and way off track.

The only times I think speed boosts are viable and the two long straight parts of Forbidden ice. They are just long enough for you to use up all your boost and have no obstacles that you might run into. Of course, this makes racing in Forbidden Ice annoying as any player could overtake you at anytime, no matter how fast you fly.

Any other track is just too twisty and turny to be able to navigate with a speed boost active. Though that first stretch of Trench Dive might be doable with a lot of skill.

Hello...

Alright, to bump this thread I will give a (kind of) new tip:
If u are racing a Snow Wraith (AKA the new Shockjaw of the racetrack :/) don't bump into it.  For some reason, it slows your dragon down for a few seconds, like bumping into a wall would.

To any dragon actually. If you bump into them you slow down a lot!

Ooh good to know

I noticed this, it's good to know it's not a 'me only' glitch. I've noticed this slowing when getting to close to other dragons primarily occurs with the new releases although sometimes it happens to me regardless of the species. Good tip

Bump? Shortcut or cheaters in TRR?

I''m not sure, if I bump in into a dragon. But i can't find a reason for this by myself:

I raced Trench Dive with my Skrill and 3 other racer. Two of them are on Shockjaw and one Beginner-Dragon (Nadder or Zipper). Both Shockjaw go on so fast ahead, I've not seen before. Is there any big shortcut in Trench Dive like in GronckleRun?

I note the Names of the Vikings... Maybe you can tell me, these are known cheaters or only good racers?

I was on 3. Position and under shots from the last racer.

At the End of the second Lap my skrill react not longer normal, can't fly turns, any control impossible. It feels for me like the game could be controlled by a cheater or hacker. Very strange!

Any explanation? (i hope my english is understandable)
