When I heard her say steven, i thought it sounded more like lapis. This made me think that her voice sounded strained at holding jasper back instead of disdainful. Maybe the watermelon offerings helped lapis to focus on what she was doing that for to help her maintain control, until jasper's rage took over and ate the watermelon.
That sounds more likely, trying to help Lapis be stronger, because otherwise sounds scary, the possibility they were feeding her in an attempt to stop her from destroying the island or something (even though that wouldn't work) then decided to rally against her and stop this
