Snoggletog has returned!

While the start of winter may be more temperate than anticipated, the citizens of Berk and the School of Dragons campus are gearing up for another festive season full of new activities, a maze, and the induction of our newest member of the School of Dragons family, the Golden Dragon. Here is what you can expect during Snoggletog 2021:

  • Come and celebrate Snoggletog by performing a play for the citizens of Berk!

  • Introduction of our new dragon, the Golden Dragon; collectible as the final prize of the Snoggletog event.

  • A Snoggletog maze has appeared in New Berk, find what secrets await inside.

  • 8 new Dragon Tactics levels.

  • Updated Daily and Stable quests.

  • 4 themed Thunder Run racing levels.

  • The Yaks are getting festive this season, and are a great source for cookies.

  • Updated world event with an increase of enemy damage and health. Make sure to bring some friends to take down these dastardly raiders.

Can y'all like actually shut up about the dragons and let the dang developers be? Not everyone likes the dragon but not everybody DISLIKES them either. You guys just want to be negative over things from that stupid show and won't just IGNORE IT which is impossibly easy to do. Don't like it? Don't get the dragon. It's that easy.

And yes, there's gonna be bugs in events. If you've ever coded you'd know that it can be difficult to catch bugs and faulty coding in the early stages. That's why games have whole beta stages. An event doesn't get that beta stage so just let them know there's a bug and stop being so freaking negative about it.

You gotta chill man. You know the reason people get upset? It's because when you're a veteran player (like many if not most of us are), you have NOTHING left to do in the game except race the same tracks in TRR, battle the same ships, or play the same levels of DT over and over again. Everything is repetitive and events are the one thing that breaks this cycle. The coveted grand prize is the big motivator, the primary excitement of the event, and the feeling of winning it should and normally would be satisfying.

Now it isn't. So many veteran players won't even participate in this one, I myself being one of them aside from the Snoggletog mystery chests (and that's just for the skins and saddles). This was supposed to be a time of fun, zeal, and anticipation. Does anyone look very thrilled about the thing that's supposed to motivate them? Does anybody seem excited to say they've won the event when all they have to show for their efforts is cringe? Now there's no reason to participate, and without participation the only source of fun is the maze (done once daily) and maybe daily quests (which are short and repetitive).

I do understand that not all bugs can be caught but if you've played this game long enough, the SAME bugs ALWAYS appear EVERY event, throughout the entire event (for 50% of the players). I can tell you this truthfully because their first event was 2019 Dreadfall and I was there, and stayed there for every event after. One or two times, okay, but it happens every time so clearly there is some recurring pattern and some of these bugs do not get fixed at all, the bugs that just so happen to interfere with gameplay the most and force desperate players to spend real money (strangely there are never bugs interfering with payment transactions). Yet ANY glitch or bug the players exploit that gives them an advantage in an event is patched literally the next day.

People get upset and they have every right to be just like you have every right to roll your eyes at it. So chill out, let them vent and complain, they just had the entire event, the ONE THING they've been looking forward to for MONTHS of stale gameplay, totally ruined with that prize. No they won't get the dragon but the fact that this one little light just went dark is reason enough for disappointment and if something that great was ruined for you, you'd have something to say too.

I get on from time to time still, and in case you haven't noticed nobody's having a meltdown. But the disappointment is widespread enough for you to have a shred of decency about it and quit whining about other people. All I asked is that you try to understand how others felt and why they say what they say, and I went out of my way to make an effort to explain it to you. Thank you for completely disregarding everything else that challenged your chief complaint and then some. :/ If you're a veteran player like you say (just so happens that I have also been playing since 2014) then you cannot sit there and say the same bugs don't keep popping up and never get fixed, but the bugs that inconvenience the devs rather than the players are 100% prioritized. That isn't fair at all, and warrants more than a few complaints. Disappointing half your entire fanbase (possibly even more) that are so dedicated to the game they invest themselves in it is not okay for the devs to do, as these fears were realized before the event was even released. Devs have an obligation to their players. I'm not so sure you see that. It is their responsibility to take care of the game and make their players glad to play it (we literally pay their salary). At the very least they couldve had other rewards that were worth participation, such as holiday skins for the fury family instead of red saddles for the NLs. I try to empathize with others. And I must say, telling someone to stop playing the game entirely because you don't want them challenging you is uncalled for.

If you're sitting here

If you're sitting here whining about not having anything else to do, than the answer is to play something else for a while. You don't have to stop playing completely. It sounds like, seeing past comments you've said (I wasn't stalking I just came across them before I saw this post lol) it seems that all you have is negativity towards this whole event, so if you have such an issue with it, why NOT go play some other game while you wait for a big update? I'm not even saying anyone's having a meltdown, but people like you specifically have been somewhat rude and off-putting towards devs for bugs in a TEMPORARY event and for them fixing bugs that people exploit? Like you're sitting here complaining about bugs and then complaining that they fix other bugs that you didn't prioritize??? If you're THAT UPSET OVER IT THEN DONT PLAY. That's not even you "challenging me" it's just blatant common sense

For the second time in a row, nobody is having a meltdown.

I think you're confused between complaining and discussing/informing/reminding (pretty much any other form of conversation). For the sake of all future conversations regarding complaints, I suggest you learn the difference between the two. You were the one whining. I was the one explaining and yes, challenging your perspective as you did my own (common for these types of conversations). You complained about players speaking their opinions. Literally an entire comment grumbling about that being annoying. Honestly why can the same argument you use not be applied to you as well? A revolving door swings both ways my friend, you can ignore the complaints of other people instead of whining about it to the point where your subject line said, "shutupshutupshutupshutup." Telling people to ignore something they can't (the golden dragon is always there, you can't NOT look at it) becomes a double-edged sword when you yourself become the one complaining and furthermore it is far easier for you to ignore other people's comments than it is for other people to ignore this event.

I'd also like to point out that everything I say to you seems to be only half-understood, at best. I pointed out, about the bugs, that the devs essentially don't care enough about bugs that interfere with gameplay when it is their job to do so. Yet anything that might make them lose money is prioritized by them. What I was insinuating is that they need to do their job, not "be left alone." They don't do anything when they're left alone and we, the players, suffer the consequences. Someone has to come forward to them and MAYBE we'll see something improve. Look at the battle event glitch. If you've been playing since 2014 you're very well aware that this has been a huge concern among players to this day and is by no means restricted to just seasonal events. My entire thing with the bugs is that the devs don't care about their players, just their wallets, and that is not fair to us therefore I think the complaints and concerns of other players are justified. Add to this the disappointment of the event itself and yes, I empathize with them all the more. Respect is earned, nobody is entitled to it. Not me, not you, not the devs. They want respect, well, time to earn it.

take away the pillar of salt, halt

The subject line was just me slapping in something ngl

And once again, if you're that frustrated/angry/disappointed about the golden dragon (not necessarily just you but people in general) that there's no other way to go about it other than complaining constantly since you HAVE to see it (I mean isn't there literally an option to play alone? I'm not sure how often this dragon will appear in quests considering how much the nightlights do) then, once again since you want to take it personally and get mad over me saying it, don't play.
Also welcome to Capitalism, the devs are gonna not necessarily listen. This is a frequent issue among video games and honestly y'all are lucky they listen at all

And one last thing before I go to work. Honestly a lot of this is coming across as entitlement. "The devs HAVE to fix what we want when we want because there's obviously nothing in the background that they're working on." I don't feel like some of y'all realize that they're most likely always working on something, whether it's new dragons, new maps, or events. Coding takes a LOT and I don't know how big their dev team is, which can heavily effect timelines. They have their own things going on and you don't always know what's going on behind the scenes. Things can't always be fixed either, like how they removed the playing with your dragon feature (for now?). And yeah, they're gonna do it for their own wallets because they have bills to pay. Some things are simple fixes, some aren't. Maybe there's a REASON certain bugs aren't being fixed. You accuse me of not being empathic (or whatever the wording is. I'm tired rn

Here

To classify the SoD team consists of around 10 people, which is VERY SMALL. it's not a game with multiple devs, it's really just 5 devs, some modelers, animators and coders. They are very limited with what they can do due to their supply of developers, and the fact everyones yelling and harassing them is horrendous when you realize how small and how much time they all take to make the event decent. The golden dragon really DOES have a lot of positives, like the fire, the animations and how good the textures are. It's just a shame nobody stops whining and complaining about it since its a " rescue riders " dragon when SoD is for all dragons under the " Dreamworks : Dragons " label. F!cking rude if you ask me.

...Third time. Literally the third time. I'm not upset. -_- Exasperated at best.

I apologize that this comes off as an entitlement issue to you, but that statement proves you are once more half-understanding my points. I'm not pitching some toddler fit about not getting my way. That would absolutely be entitlement. I'm saying that fixing bugs is 100% within the parameters of the devs' jobs. They are paid to do their jobs. Yes bugs are an issue in other games as well, I won't even try to deny that, but SOD is hands down the glitchiest game I've ever played and the bugs in other games are fixed within up to a few weeks since being pointed out by players. Disregarding their size, it doesn't matter when so much as IF they ever decide to get the ball rolling on these bugs. The play button was outdated (from what I understand) and caused bugs so they removed that feature. I'm fully aware of how meticulous coding can be, but again this is their job. They are 100% responsible for what happens to the game, not us. Bringing bugs to their attention is one thing, them refusing to acknowledge or fix them is another and it is a failure to on their end perform their duties. It would be no different than me at my job refusing to perform specific duties because we're short-staffed and have other things to do. Obviously the devs have some spare time for bug fixes otherwise patching bugs that inhibit their profits would take much longer.

Devs are also capable of communication. Their priorities are not their players though, we see this repeatedly over and over again. They are aware we have concerns, they receive one ticket after another about the same glitches. They have bills to pay, sure, we all do. And people who spend their money or invest anything into the game are paying the devs to fix bugs or for the sake of human decent at least tell us why they won't. The devs can also communicate with admins, let the admins tell us these things. I have seen them fix the bare minimum of glitches compared to the massive amount the game already has. We very clearly tell the devs what would make us happy. We literally do that part of their job for them. Instead of updating old dragons or addressing any old bugs, they added blue circles around entries in the game. Not a single person anywhere made such a suggestion yet it had most of us rolling our eyes. The glitches that totally block achievements, the innumerable problems this game has that interferes with actual gameplay (within or outside of an event), are all put on the backburner. Asking the devs to do what we pay them to do is not a tall order.

Yep!
I don't complain about bugs as this is common in any update of any game. But, about the dragon, I think there's really a problem here:

- Wanting to push an infantized dragon without design changes is the same as polluting the design of the main franchise.

- It's much harder to ignore something when this thing keeps appearing in front of you all the time, don't you think?

- "If you don't like it, just don't buy it"...are you literally telling most players to spend AN ENTIRE EVENT without a new dragon? It would then continue to be the worst Event because of that lol

- Maybe you don't know (I don't know how long you've been in the game), but this is just the beginning of a flurry. SoD always does this. Now that they have released the first RR dragon, you can expect that the next new dragons of at least 6 months will be Rescue Riders ONLY. If you were expecting a specific non-Rescue Riders hybrid/dragon, you can wait sitting down.

- The main problem here is not so much the fact that it is from Rescue Riders. But they could have made THE MINIMUM design change to match the core franchise's streak. If the dragon had undergone fair modifications to the main franchise, there wouldn't have been any fuss (because SoD has always done this with dragons from books and other games like TU and RoB).

SoD has done a GREAT job of adapting the dragon's stats. It has turned it from a useless glitter dragon to a dragon with fantastical unique healing abilities. The fact that they also used glitter to burn their opponents' skin was also a great idea and gave more of that "Book of Dragons" air that everyone else has.
But, the look was HORRIBLE and it points out several other mistakes along with it, and unfortunately it leans to the worse side.

I agree that there should be

I agree that there should be better rewards for completing an event and that it can be disappointing but as someone who plays games with events: if you don't like the end reward and want to do the event just don't get the end reward. Fallout 76 is a great example. They have scoreboards that have some disappointing end of board things, but it's still fun to play the events.
I've played this game off and on since 2014. I'm not gonna say I'm PLEASED about the golden dragon but it's so tiring of reading people being downright rude and insulting to the devs for a game that isn't even really meant for their age range. The game isn't necessarily catered towards older audiences, and honestly adding in the golden dragon and RR dragons is smart to draw in the younger audience. I'm not gonna say it isn't severely out of place and odd, but that doesn't excuse a lot of the BS devs have been getting, especially when Ive seen the devs catering to y'all for a while.

Well, it would have worked better if there were more people who really like Rescue Riders  XD

The series was a failure even for the target audience. It wouldn't surprise me if Golden Dragon was a requirement by DreamWorks itself to advertise the series as a last resort.
But, even so, the dragon does not meet the minimum in terms of design to fit the style of the main franchise. I don't blame the developers because I know they must have done the best they could, and the dragons from before the Event are proof of that.
But honestly, it's inedible. I understand people who are angry and disappointed with the dragon, but I also don't agree with blaming the developers for it.

I'm in the same place lol. I just wish all these people bragging about being veteran players would recognize that it's not gonna be catered to us just like how COD isn't gonna cater to their 12 year old audience sjndkdk. I think the designs are WAY too kiddish but if they want to pull in money then they do what they want I guess

Sniggletog HYPE!!!

Thanks for the announcement, Brynjolf, and for the work you all have put into this event, Team! While I admit that the grand prize is... a bit of a head-scratcher to say the least, and not something I desperately desire to obtain, I know there was a lot of work put into making this happen, and I intend to make the most of it! Thus far, I haven't encountered too many game-breaking glitches; just a "Progress Sync Failed" earlier (which was resolved with a single retry) and now I'm consistently getting a "Server Call Timed Timed Out" on my phone between login and viking selection, but otherwise things seem to be working great.

The maze is awesome, particularly the first ice physics section! I have a lot of fun with that. The "Follow me" section... not so much, but hey, challenge is good! I can't say much about the quests yet, but the new DT challenges are great! Also great was the hundred-gem gift! Thanks so much!

Hope you all have yourselves a wonderful Christmas/Snoggletog!

Hey everyone! After reading a lot of opinions from fans across our player base, we understand all your arguments regarding the Golden Dragon. Although it is not what the fans wanted, the dev team is proud of the hard work done bringing a new avenue of dragons into our already diverse species pool. We will be continuing to release more dragons in the future that is more in line with designs we have released in the past, as well as designs fawned over by our most dedicated players. We acknowledge that Rescue Riders just isn't what you guys want to see in our game, and we will try to heed your desires more when we plan more events in the months to come!

TYSM!

Thank you very much for understanding! Seeing that you guys really care is one of the things that makes me proud to say I play this game! As for the situation, I don't see a problem with having RR dragons in the game, as long as there's better distribution in the release of dragons from other media AND an acceptable design change. Of course, putting RR dragons as Event rewards is something that can be disastrous, but as direct store additions they can be fun to collect as long as they have a better change in deisgn to match the franchise. I like the idea of having more "out of the ordinary" designs in the game, but I would like it to be something for the better... Hope you understand!

Thank you

Thank you! However, I would love it if you guys would sometimes mish and mash things together every once in a while, since sometimes it's nice to see dragons from other " Dreamworks : Dragon's " series, this sometimes includes Rescue Riders. Like the Foreverhorn is a really good choice, or even Winger, Silvertailed Ironclaw and others. I love Httyd dragons, however sometimes its better to add more of a variety of dragons. ( since most of the dragons we get are mostly from the movies / riders of berk ). Best however that if you do add a other rescue rider dragon to not put it as the main event award, however adding it casually would be a better move since the fandom didn't really like seeing it as a event award. But tysm for understanding that issue! I still hope you do add more of a variety however from other Dreamwork Dragon shows since it's give us more options

I agree with this. I've already pmed Brynjolf asking him if there could be a compromise and that they could occasionally release a Rescue Riders dragon in between events since a lot of people didn't react well to it being an event prize.(I did of course say that we would like to see other dragons as well, that's why I said occasionally so that other dragons could be released too)I honestly thought it would be cool to see the main dragons from RR in the game(especially the Swiftwing and Fastfin, I find them really cute). There are people who don't care if RR dragons are added so I think a compromise of some sort would be fair instead of them completely scrapping adding RR dragons to the game. I hope he passes my pm on to the other staff and it's considered. I honestly think it'd be unfair to completely scrap adding RR dragons to the game when some people would actually like it or they just don't mind.

Yeah!

Correct! I'm the few people who really doesn't mind and likes RR to some degree, ( or well better than nine realms. ) the dragons are not that bad either, and on old polls a lot of people were very open to the idea of rescue rider dragons. I just think due to it being a event PRIZE was what people got upset by mostly, since it makes people feel underwhelmed. Basically, I can confirm a lot of people still want rescue riders dragons, however they shouldn't make it into a event prize however a casual release. I love Cutter and Winger, same to Ironsharp Tailclaw and the FireFury. They are honestly really cute! I really do hope they don't scrap the idea since they are still a bunch of people including me who like the mix mashes

People were absolutely thrilled to bits during the Summarhildr event. We've been wanting an expansion for so long that the Night Light mini-expansion made for a very entertaining event! Perhaps think about using quests as the rewards like Summarhildr? It was a huge hit, I spent SO many gems that I swore I wouldn't. And honestly I didn't see a single person who didn't like Summarhildr. It was very refreshing for someone who had run out of quests years ago. It doesn't have to always be brought back as another mini-expansion but just playing another storyline was a blast and I personally would LOVE to see that implemented into future events!

I'd love to see more events like Summarhildr too(Summarhildr was so much fun. I loved the quests and looked forward to unlocking each new quest), however, I do think they should always release the questline into the store as a mini-expansion several months after the event. There will always be people who have personal circumstances that prevent them from playing and new players or returning players who missed the event and they'll really want to do the questline. There's also people who may want to do the quests again on a secondary viking. That's why I hope that if they do more events like Summarhildr they continue to make the questline into a mini-expansion so that those who were unable to complete the event, who weren't playing the game at the time, or who want to do the quests again can do it.

I'd like to see all mini-expansions in the store too, but I'm afraid it would eventually become too much for the devs and they would stop doing mini-expansions altogether.

People like the dragon once its shown!

I did a experiment to see if people would like it if it was slowly introduced to them in person, while some were hesitate at first people began to open up and ask questions! People actually really like the Golden Dragon, or well once they see it infront of them.

Woo! Happy snoggletog!

I might be skipping this one, although I'll see how far I can get without logging in every day. I don't like the dragon's design enough to go for it. I think you did a good job on the model and animations, though!

Good luck fellas!

Snoggletogging sounds like a great winter sport

The maze is so hard I love it! That slippery ice room had me laughing so hard at my character I couldn't be frustrated. I think I've worked the darn thing out now.

Loving the DT levels as well. The Gronckles breathing peppermint candy fire is an adorable touch.

The racetracks are so pretty!

I agree that nobody wants child dragons in the game but if they can adapt them to do so. I don't think we have to attack them because they want to include them, if you look at the books (which I haven't been able to read them) the dragons in the book, for the most part they are a bit weird.
As they said in a comment, adding them opens up the world of dragons more and makes us have more things to live (in the game). I know I'm heavy on this but I can tell administrators that if they need dragons, they can check out some fans'. Including me.
They have several large dragons that we need but being giants it is not possible, so put more hybrids of these.
In conclusion:
. You have hundreds of hybrids to create
. You have a book and series to use
Or you can draw on fan ideas. And so our game could last for years and have more world to go. So if you don't want such a dragon, don't buy it.

I hope I have explained myself.
