Snoggletog Countdown (with a Snoggletog Wraith)
Snoggletog Countdown Day 25: Dasher’s Intro
You better watch out. You better not cry.
Better not pout. I’m telling you why.
The Snoggletog Wraith is coming to town.
Hello, everyone! I’m Dasher the Snoggletog Wraith!
I am friends with Whisper the Wolf and her…um…uh…very beautiful Woolly Howl, Winterwind.
Here’s the thing, I REALLY want to ask Winter to spend some Snoggletog time with me, but Whisper won’t let me unless I agree to do this Snoggletog countdown series for the next 24 days. Because, as she says, who knows more about Snoggletog than a Snoggletog Wraith? Here I hope to post Snoggletog tips, dragon activities, songs, and more!
I was going to post this on my own account, but the admins are being super slow in approving it, so I’m hijacking Whisper’s for now.
Whisper: I did not agree to this!
Well, I don’t have an account yet. What would you like me to do?
So while I plan how to get Winterwind alone, I’d start the countdown with a little info about my kind: Snoggletog Wratihs!
Snoggletog Wraiths: We are Woolly Howls. In fact, we are the rarest of the Woolly Howl breed. Like most Howls, we have the same shot limit (6) and speed (about 18) and we are sharpshooters who shoot hail. We also fly in blizzards. But unlike our brown, purple-eyed cousins, we are white with greenish wings, blue eyes, and golden claws and have a slightly stronger firepower and armor. According to your human legends, Snoggletog Wraiths only appear on the eve of Snoggletog, and sighting one guarantees a snowy festive day. That’s probably because of our migrations.
Snoggletog Wraiths are interesting Woolly Howls. Unlike most Woolly Howls, Snoggletog Wraiths are more solitary and live in mating pairs, whereas common Woolly Howls are more pack-like. However, we do get together every year for hatching our young, and it happens to be right around you humans’ Snoggletog time. Every year I would fly ahead of coming snows (which pleasantly provide an updraft for me to ride), and usually I end up flying over Berk, which is why I usually only appear over Berk if there will be snow the next day. And it was on such I migration where I first met Winterwind and Whisper!
We also like to decorate ourselves to attract mates. I’ve dressed up in my finest for Winterwind, and I bet this year, it will work!
Super Cute Snoggletog Wraith by tashiyoukai
Alright, I think that’ll do for now. But do you know how to set up the perfect Snoggletog tree? Or how to dress for Snoggletog? Or what to give your dragon a gift? If not, check out this thread throughout the month!
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas,
And the Snoggletog Wraith says it’s so
‘Cause his appearance means,
The snow will coat the greens,
So go play out in the snow.
GREAT!
All hail the Winter King! *brings frozen berries to Dasher*
Well as Whisp stated I am Owl. Well fully I'm OwlMoonFire, and I have nicknames as well such as the night's rider, however most just call me Owl. And this is -
I go by many names great Winter King. The great black dragon of legend, the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself, the death bringer ... however many call me Shadow for reasons yet to be discovered
She follows me around and mocks me, like a shadow.
Owl! Please I'm wanting to be in the Winter King's good graces. So shall I tell your queen that you have arrived?
-_- Oh brother. Sorry about her Dasher, she can be a charmer ...
Merry Snoggletog!

Snoggletog Countdown Day 22: Secret Odin
Odin, Wise One, just slip some fish under the tree for me;
Been a real good dragon. Odin, Wise One,
So hurry down the chimney tonight.
Hello everyone! Yes, it's me, Dasher, on my own account! Check out my new signature to learn more about me! (It's not long, I promise.)
Now, on to the countdown! Since I’ve been introduced to Berk, I’ve noticed there are a number of fun games people do around the great holiday. One of those games is called Secret Odin. If you’re like me – you know, a wild dragon – or just oblivious, you probably haven’t heard of this before, but I’ve since learned how it works, and it’s become one of my favorites. Why? Because it spreads the joy of giving that this season brings us!
Winterwind: Aw, Dasher, that’s so sweet!
Whisper: Wow, who knew dragons could blush?
I’m just feeling a little warm around this fire, that’s all. Ice dragon, you know.
Whisper: Sure…
So you know how Odin gives gifts on the eve of Snoggletog? Well, in Secret Odin, you play Odin by giving some else a secret gift! Here’s the steps to set up the game.
1. Make a list of participants.
Write it on a paper or make a digital list. Depends on how you’re communicating.
2. Shuffle the names and randomly pick from them.
You can use a “Secret Santa” generator, a random number generator on a calculator, or you can simply cut up names and put them in a hat. (I recommend a hat like the one below.)
If you have a hat, have each person choose a name. (They must pick again if they pick their own name.) Otherwise, simply pick names in pairs. Or just use the generator.
3. Make sure each person knows who they’re getting gifts for.
And not just who but what their personality is like and what type of things they might enjoy as gifts so everyone has an idea of what to get. But the person they're shopping for cannot know who is shopping for them! That's why it's "secret"!
4. Set the date, price, and method for delivery.
If you don’t have these, then how can everyone know where and when to meet and what to bring? Are you sending them by Terror airmail or handing them over in person, and by what day are they due? How much should you spend maximum or should it be homemade?
5. Purchase a gift.
Use what you know about your person to get the right gift, using the price as a parameter. Making your own gift is allowed and welcomed. Keep gifts appropriate for the person and situation to avoid awkward situations. If you don’t know what to get someone, practical gifts are always a safe bet…like dragon nip! Whatever it is, make sure you put effort into picking and making or finding the right gift. Remember, the point of this is to make people happy!
6. Exchange gifts.
On the correct date, deliver your gift using the correct method and then await your own Secret Odin gift from your Secret Odin!
Odin, Wise One, forgot to mention one little dish: some nip.
I don’t mean on the nose. Odin, Wise One,
So hurry down the chimney tonight.
Great advice, Dasher! There's just two things:
Step 3 is backwards. The whole point of a Secret Odin is that you don't know who your present is from. That's why the word "secret" is in there. You need to know who you're giving to, but not who you're getting from.
Odin's horse looks much less terrifying than I thought it would, but it only has eight legs. It's supposed to have sixteen. As I said, terrifying, but to each their own I suppose.
Oh, why thank you so much for bringing that to my attention! It looks like Step 3 contains a typo. I'll rewrite it.
Really? 16 legs? Every human I've met has told me the great horse of the Wise One has only 8 legs. However, I am new at these human gods, so I shall ask around again. 16 legs really does sound terrifying, I'll grant you...it would be very odd-looking indeed.
Hmm. I heard it had 16, but I could be wrong... Wikipedia (that's a place where humans put information) says eight. The problem with wikipedia is that anybody can put whatever they want on it, but it does seem like you might be correct. Any art I can find also shows eight. And, again, sixteen would be terrifying.
Even eight, if in the spider-like configuration I imagined, would be really freaky. As a rule, I try not to trust anything with more than six legs (sorry, thunderpede).
I read one book that claimed it had sixteen, and everything else I'm looking at now says eight. So, again, I think you're right and I'm wrong on this one.
Snoggletog Countdown Day 21: Green the Whole Year 'Round
The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all the trees that are in the wood,
The holly bears the crown.
Oh, the rising of the sun
And the flying of the dragons,
The playing of the merry horn,
Sweet swinging in the Hall.
Alright, everyone, so earlier in our countdown, we talked about Snoggletog trees. Well, what kind of trees are they? And what about the other green things around the holidays? After all, decorating with evergreen boughs is a time-honored tradition with you humans, and I always admire decorations! And not only are these decorations pretty, but they also smell great! So what plants are they, what do we use them for, and why? I've been asking around the village, and I've compiled a list of answers!
So here you, the plants associated Snoggletog:
Holly: This one is my personal favorite. Legend has it that the king tree of the forest is the Oak, but in winter, the Holly tree, the Oak’s “dark twin,” becomes the king.
The holly is said to ward off witches and ill-fortune and should inspire love and compassion. It is quite common to deck your halls with boughs of this ruler of the forest. It is also generally placed in your Snoggletog wreaths. The berries of the holly are poisonous, though, so do not try them. Also, holly is said to provide protection against lightning, so…use it when faced with a Skrill?
Icebones the Skrill: I knew there was a reason I didn't like holly.
Ivy: The ivy is the female mate to the male holly. It is a vine that grows in low light, using trees for support, and one of the trees it often twines on is holly. The ivy is said to compete with holly to become the ruler of Winter, giving the winter a Queen instead of a King. (Generally Holly wins, according to legend, but not always.) A symbol of growth, renewal, healing, and marriage, the ivy gives life to the forest in winter. This plant is used along with holly to make Snoggletog wreaths, but some places further south only decorate with ivy outside the home and don’t allow it inside. Every part of the ivy plant is poisonous; just don’t eat it.
Winterwind: Why are you wrapping ivy vines around my neck?
No reason. Do you like the holly on mine?
Mistletoe: Mistletoe is a parasitic vine that feeds off the nutrients of the trees it uses for support. It is considered the heart and soul of the oak tree on which it grows. The mistletoe’s history is actually tied to the god Baldr and his mother Frigg. Upon learning of a prophecy that Baldr was to die, Frigg went to every plant and animal to receive their promise not to harm her son, but because mistletoe was so young, she did not think to ask it. Loki took the mistletoe on his arrow and shot and killed the god Baldr with it. Frigg’s tears formed the mistletoe’s white berries.
As a result, mistletoe can now only be used as a plant of peace. Enemies must declare a truce under its boughs, and if a young man or woman stands under it, they must receive a kiss! While said to have healing properties, the berries of this plant are most definitely poisonous, so let’s just stick to kissing. (Hmm…I need to get Winterwind under this…I’ll just hang some on my wing for now…)
Frostclaws (Norbert's Shivertooth): Can I have some?
Are you going to hold it above Whisper and Norbert again?
Frostclaws: ...No.
Liar.
Frostclaws: Hypocrite.
Fir, Spruce, Pine, and Yew: These evergreen trees symbolize hope, promise of light, life, and renewal. They are usually used for Snoggletog trees, though yews are dying out for this purpose. The boughs of all of any of these trees may appear in wreaths. Yew is also one of the trees thought to be one of the species to which Yggdrasil may belong; Yggdrasil is the Great Tree that holds all the universes together.
Rosemary: Sometimes called “the friendship plant,” rosemary symbolizes faithfulness, devotion, and remembrance and is thought to protect one from evil spirits. It is sometimes used in wreaths, but unlike the others on this list, this plant is edible; in fact, a nice traditional ham or boar’s head roasted with rosemary makes a delectable Snoggletog dinner!
So what evergreen plants are you using for decoration or cooking? Tell me below!
The winter lays her fingers cold
On dark and lonely nights,
But Snoggletog will soon be here
To usher in the light,
And when morning breaks and the bells ring out,
It is such a joyous sound
To hear them echo in the trees
That are green the whole year ‘round.
Green the whole year ‘round,
Green the whole year ‘round,
The holly, yew, and the ivy tree
Are green the whole year ‘round.
Snoggletog Countdown Day 2O: Snoggletog Gifts...For Dragons
On the first day of Snoggletog, my true love gave to me,
A Snoggletog Wraith just for me.
So you need to get some gifts. Well, what are great gifts for people? I don’t know, I’m a dragon! But what’s a good gift for you dragon? That I can answer.
Food: Food is always a safe bet. Peppermint, cookies, dragon nip, berries, mutton, chicken, chicken eggs, fish, carrots…
Icevein: And an arctic smoothie with arctic gentian, arctic poppy, and pumpkin!
……………
Winterwind: *whispering to Dasher* It’s a Groncicle thing.
Oh, also, yaknog. Dragons are actualy partial to yaknog. It’s alright.
Winterwind: Speak for yourself.
Saddles: Other dragons might like a new saddle! I think the Snoggletog saddles the finest, but the customized novice and wild saddles are quite fine! And what fine spikes the Defender saddles have!
Stonemaw the Gronckle: Get this off me.
Toys: Toys are always fun things to have! We dragons love toys, and there’s nothing better than toys for Snoggletog! Here’s a list of some ideas:
Ball: Great for any game of fetch!
Light Toy: One day I shall catch that little light!
Chew toy: Something wooden is great, but the best is something stuffed, especially if it squeaks!
Bells: Especially when the bell is in a little ball we can roll around. They’re fun to ring and chase! I like to put them on my outfit.
There you go! Some great gift ideas! So, what are you getting your dragon for Snoggletog?
Whisper: Dasher, I'm not telling you what I'm getting you for Snoggletog.
Well, that was not what I was implying at all!
Whisper: Sure...
On the twelfth day of Snoggletog, my true love gave to me,
Twelve Gronckles napping
Eleven Terrors singing
Ten Howls howling
Nine Nadders flying
Eight Skrills a-Skrilling
Seven Scauldrons swimming
Six Nightmares fighting
Five Fireworms
Four Shiverteeth
Three Groncicles
Two Bewilderbeasts
And a Snoggletog Wraith just for me.

Snoggletog! :D
This is such a lovely idea! I'll be sure to keep an eye on this page for Panther, I know how much she loves Snoggletog.
Dasher, darling, I know exactly how you feel. The Admins took quite a while to approve my account as well. I know that the poor things are probably very busy with other things, but they do take an awfully long time...
Oh dear, I've forgotton to introduce myself, haven't I? I'm Citrine, Mirage's mother. Perhaps you know my son? :)
Mother!! I have told you to stay off the forums. Is it really neccessary to follow me around like I'm a hatchling?
...Actually, I'd prefer you not answer that -_-
Hello, there, Citrine! A Happy Snoggletog to you, good madam! Yes, the admins are awfully busy, it's true. Perhaps they are overtaxed; it would do well if the company gave them a bit more manpower. But they got to my acount eventually, as you can see. All is well! And Whisper was very kind to let me use hers.
Whisper: I didn't LET you do anything.
Eh heh. Moving right along....it's very kind of you to watch this page for your son's rider. I believe I know your son, though admittedly not well. I see he's arrived as well. Hello there, young Mirage! How are you and your rider?
I do feel sorry for the Admins at times. The poor dears could benefit from a little help every now and then, but unfortunately, these things are beyond our control.
Anyway, I'm glad you know Mirage! It's good to see him getting along so well with other dragons. When he was younger, we had a bit of a problem with him biting others. Took him quite a while to grow out of that habit, actually...
Mirage: Mother! I- *sigh*...I'm just going to ignore that you said that... Hello, Dasher! It's good to see you. My rider and I are very well, by the way. Thank you for asking. I trust you've been well?
I've been well, yes, thank you! I have been spreading the Snoggletog cheer with my carols. Whisper has been helping. She loves carols as much as I do.
Norbert (Whisper's best human friend): These two have been driving me insane.
My dear fellow, you obviously need more Snoggletog cheer.
Norbert: No!
Hahaha..There's nothing wrong with a bit of Snoggletog cheer! It's the season for it, after all. And Panther and I are rather fond of carols ourselves.
Admittedly, she has been going a little overboard on decorations this year though. She actually tried to put a wreath around my neck! Silly girl. I'm a dragon, not a Snoggletog tree...
Snoggletog Countdown Day 19: Yaknog!
Yaknog! Yaknog! all over the town,
Our drink, it is white, and our yak hair is brown;
Our bowl, it is made of the white maple tree;
With the yaknoging bowl, we’ll drink to thee.
Hello, you many riders of dragons! A bigger collective today, I see! Wonderful! Well, today we have a special treat for you! We’re going to learn how to make yaknog!
Whisper: Dasher, I know dragons might like it, but humans hate—
And my co-host today is Astrid Hofferson!
Whisper: *nervously* —our lack of yaknog knowledge, yes!
Astrid: Oh, I’m so glad my drink is getting such recognition!
So, Astrid has been kind enough to share the recipe with me, and together, we will share it with you!
Astrid: I should warn you that I don't remember what the last ingredient was, so as of last year, I've just been substituting with kelp.
Ingredients:
-Eggs
-Cabbage
-Yak Milk
-Kelp
Instructions:
1. Break open the chicken eggs and whisk it with the yak milk until mixed. (The older the milk, the better!)
2. Add the cabbage and kelp and continue to whisk until the mixture thickens.
Astrid: Now you all know my secret! Enjoy making this holiday drink for yourself.
Astrid: Well, I have to go meet up with Hiccup and give him a mug of yaknog! *leaves*
What a nice human!
Whisper: *clears throat* I, uh, figured I’d also include an eggnog recipe…you know, just in case yaknog might not be your thing. This recipe is my's family recipe and constantly manipulated over the generations, so it has a lot of notes, variations, and possible alterations in the instructions, but if you go with recommended amounts, they shouldn’t fail you.
Ingredients:
12 eggs (medium or large; can be done with just the yolks)
4 cups of milk (whole milk recommended OR 3 cups of 2% milk and 1 cup condensed milk recommended)
1 1/2 cups of sugar
2 cups of heavy cream (about 500 ml)
1 tsp of nutmeg (or adjust to taste)
Optional: 1 tsp of vanilla extract
Optional: 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
Optional: Dark rum, bourbon, and/or brandy (add to taste or alcoholic strength preference; 1 cup recommended)
Instructions:
1. Place the eggs and sugar into a blender, and blend for about 2 minutes or until the mix thickens up OR put in a bowl and whisk together until mix thickens up.
2. Whisk in milk and cream to the mix. Continue mixing until the sugar has completely dissolved. Add cinnamon if used.
3. Sprinkle in the nutmeg and pour in the vanilla (if used). Mix until well incorporated. Taste and adjust nutmeg if desired.
4. If alcoholic, add desired amount of rum, bourbon, and/or brandy.
5. Chill the mixture. If alcohol was added, age for a week in the refrigerator. If non-alcoholic, consume in a timely fashion, as it doesn’t keep well.
Recommended: When serving, garnish with nutmeg or cinnamon.
Whisper: This recipe serves 6-8 people, so cut as needed. I also found some…um, DRINKABLE yaknog recipes by some of our fellows here on the forum. Check them out below! (The links should open in a new tab.)
Hmm, those do all look yummy, Whisper, but I think I’ll stick to Astrid’s yaknog.
Whisper: Of course you will.
Snoggletog is coming, the yak is in the nog.
Please give a friendly man a Smokebreath from the fog.
If you haven’t got a Smokebreath, a Terrible Terror will do,
If you haven’t got a Terrible Terror, may Odin bless you!
How do you make a link and put text to it? (quick question)
Btw Flurry is on her way here she got caught up in all the Snoggletog charolers. ;)
Oh dear, it's a mircale! I managed to post a picture in my sig thanks to the help of Paymae!

Snoggletog Countdown Day 18: Do You Want to Build a Snowdragon?
Frosty the snowdragon was a jolly, happy soul,
With some carrot teeth and a wooden nose
And two eyes made out of coal.
Everyone loves building snowmen! For Whisper, it’s practically a tradition for her and her mother. Sometimes she’ll even talk Norbert into doing it with them. Astrid likes to stock up on carrots just for the occasion. And Hiccup and Toothless seem to enjoy it, too.
But snowmen are so boring. I have a better idea…snowdragons!
Now you may be asking, what do I mean exactly? Well, here are some ideas.
A snow-Gronckle!
A snow-Nadder!
Um...Whisper, your farm is lacking in snow.
Whisper: I know! I had enought to make a snowman and snowdragons, but now it's all melting away! D=
Whisper loves winter, so the warmth we have been experiencing this year is kind of upsetting to her.
Anyway...a snow-Thunderdrum!
A snow-Snoggletog Wraith!
Whisper: Uh, Dasher? Those are Night Furies.
Ssssshhhhhhhh. Let me enjoy the moment...
Frosty the snowdragon had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye sayin’, “Don’t you cry;
I’ll be back again some day.”
Snoggletog Countdown Day 17: Dressing For Snoggletog
Don we now our ga.y apparel,
Fa la la la la la la la la la
Troll the ancient Snoggletog carol,
Fa la la la la la la la la
Hello, everyone! Sorry for the late start. We had trouble with pictures, and I needed Whisper and Norbert’s help today. Now I may be an expert at dressing up a dragon up for Snoggletog, but I’ve been looking over a few human costumes lately. Here comes Whisper with her full outfit! Oh, I have a whole bunch of Christmas sweaters lined up!
First we have Whisper!
She is wearing Elf Boots,
Gleeful Bells
a Snoggletog Hat,
and let’s look at that Toothless’ Snoggletog Sweater!
But wait! There’s a sweater for every hero dragon! Please, show them, Whisper.
Stormfly’s Snoggletog Sweater!
Meatlug’s Snoggletog Sweater!
Hookfang’s Snoggletog Sweater!
And Barf & Belch’s Snoggletog Sweater!
But since Whisper owns a Woolly Howl, she prefers to wear the Merry Scarf!
And there’s even another hat you can wear! Whisper, help me out…the Fuzzy Hat of Cheer!
Whisper: This is great Dasher, but I was thinking more…reindeer antlers. I love deer!
Hmm, yes, that would be great! Frostclaws, go tell Norbert to put on antlers before he comes out. We want him and Whisper to match!
Frostclaws (Norbert’s Shivertooth): Will do! *leaves*
*Five minute pause*
Alright, let’s fix these. There we go! Whisper is now wearing the Midnight Garland!
Now the look is complete!
Now, where is—ah! Norbert, right on time!
Whisper: What are you wearing?
Norbert: What? Frostclaws said make reindeer antlers, so I made antlers!
Whisper: …Don’t you think you went a little overboard?
I think it’s brilliant! So here we have Norbert wearing the Festive Scarf
and the Merriest Snoggletog!
So there you have it, some magnificent Snoggletog costumes. How are the rest of you Vikings dressing this Snoggletog? Comment below! Screenshots welcome!
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
A Shivertooth freezing bystanders,
Snoggletog carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Northerlanders.
Cute Little Snoggletug Wraith by tashiyoukai
Nice countdown, dasher. Unfortunately, I cannot get Majesty -my Woolly Howl- to listen.
-Majesty loudly singing Viva la Vida by Coldplay in the backround-
SHUT UP AND SING SOME CHRISTMAS SONGS, MAJESTY!
NU-UH GU-RL I DO NAWT THINK SO.
I hate him. He's getting his own forum account soon -he's been begging me every since he saw all the other dragons.
OH HECK YEAH! YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! I'LL BE BETTER THAN EVER.
And ideas on how to control him? Aren't Woolly Howl's supposed to be good listeners?
WHAT?
Fix him, I'm begging you.
It is true, we Woolly Howls are generally good listeners.
Whisper: Yeah right. Winterwind is selectively A.D.D. and YOU only listen when it's something you want to hear!
Oh, I quite disagree!
Whisper: Point is, Woolly Howls are excellent listeners...but only when they want to be.
I am excited for your forum account, Majesty! But my dear fellow, 'tis the holiday season! As great as Coldplay is, it is time for Snoggletog carols! Won't you listen to at least one carol?
Whisper: What makes you think he'll listen to you any more than his rider?
I am a Snoggletog Wraith. Among Woolly Howls, we are practically royalty!
Whisper: Sure. *rolls eyes*
Moon: -songs along with Dasher- Um.. Sorry, this is my favorite season!
Me: Now don't get too excited you shall melt all the snow left in my farm!
Moon: Sorry! :)
Snoggletog Countdown Day 16: Deck the Farms
Deck the farms with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la la la la la la
‘Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la la la la la
Hello, everyone! So yesterday we learned how to dress up yourself for Snoggletog, but what about your farm? Decorations are best, truly!
Besides snow-dragons, I took a look around at what people were using to decorate their farms, and I found some great ideas!
First we have this beautiful Snoggletog Post! It is complete with an axe and a half-wreath. The half-wreath, as you can see, is made up of various plants we’ve talked about: holly, ivy, mistletoe, and fir. (Yes, I did actually look up close and observe the outlines of each plant. I then matched their leaves and berries with the plants I know.)
Candles are also common decorations around Snoggletog, meant to keep away the darkness and coldness of winter. Here are some beautiful Snoggletog Candles!
And since there is a little snow out – despite this surprisingly warm winter – a bird bath is out of the question, so instead we have this Snow Bath!
We also have a few whirligigs that look festive for the season! Here is the Deadly Snoggle-gig,
the Cheeful Gronckle-gig,
the Zipple-gig,
and the Thunderwhirly.
No Woolly Howls, though. I’m disappointed.
But your decorations don’t have to be nice to look at; they can also be practical! Here is a Festive Pen for your sheep!
And here is a Faux Snow Chateau. It’s basically just a chateau dressed up in fake snow. Whisper has done up hers just this way. As you can see, the wreath on the door, like the half-wreaths on the post, is composed of holly, ivy, mistletoe, and fir.
And of course, no Snoggletog decoration is complete without a Snoggletog Tree! Please be sure to put presents under it for all the children who’ve been good this year!
So how are you decorating your farm? Let me know down below! Screenshots welcome!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Snoggletog
Ev’rywhere you go;
There’s a tree in the village square, one placed on the farms we dare,
The sturdy kind that doesn’t mind the snow.
Truthfully, I still have my farm's Snoggletog decorations up from last year ^_^; I'm surprised the snow Nadder didn't melt. I liked them too much to take them down. The candles fit in well with everything else, my sheep were still using the festive pen, and I use the Snoggletog tree to climb up onto my farm house XD
Your farm looks amazing, by the way! Very elegant and festive :)
Snoggletog Countdown Day 15: Snoggletog Log
See the blazing log before us,
Fa la la la la la la la la
Blow the horn and join the chorus,
Fa la la la la la la la la
Whisper: Dasher, that’s the third time you’ve used that song.
It’s not my fault “Deck the Farms” covers the best range of Snoggletog things!
Now today, as our carol may have tipped you off, we’re talking about the Snoggletog log! Now there are Vikings on the mainland who celebrate Yule instead of Snoggletog, and they call this log the Yule log. So if you’re looking for something to do with all those logs you chopped in the Wilderness, this could be it!
This log is not just any bit of firewood. The Snoggletog log is a great tree that has not been sliced into smaller logs. This long log serves as the central log of the central fire beginning on Snoggletog Eve and is continued to be burned for 12 nights total. As the end of the log gets burnt up, it gets shoved further into the fire to keep on burning. It has to burn all night; if the fire goes out before daybreak, it’s a sign of bad luck!
Whisper: Also, it’s bad luck if a squinting person or a barefoot person enter your home while the Snoggletog log is burning.
…What in the world…?
Whisper: What? It’s tradition!
…That is a messed up tradition.
Whisper: No, it’s not!
Yes, that is definitely messed up.
Whisper: Oh, whatever!
Humans are so strange sometimes…
Anyway…after the 12 nights are up, save what is left over of the log. It is customary to start next year’s Snoggletog log fire with a piece of last year’s log. This last piece is called the Snoggletog brand.
The Snoggletog log is meant to bring light to a world of darkness in the dead of winter. It symbolizes hope and renewal in the coming year and is the central piece in making Snoggletog into the Feast of Lights!
So are you going to have a Snoggletog log this year? Comment below!
But, here by the fire, we defy frost and storm.
Ha, ha we are warm, and with dragons, it’ll grow brighter.
For here, we’re good fellows, and the beechwood and the bellows,
And the cup is at the lip in the pledge of fellowship.
Interesting! A snoggletog log eh?
Unfortunately I don't think we could do one, mainly because A. we don't have a working fireplace/firepit and B. my dad's really squinty ._.
Oh, thank you so much for answering my post-end question!
No fireplace? Oh, what a pity! How do you keep warm? It's my understanding that humans need warmth.
Winterwind: I imagine she has other ways of keeping warm. You know the things that Skrills can power with their lightning? Probably something like that.
Whisper is quite fond of her fireplace, I know, and prone to cleaning it out to use. Although she claims there won't be a Snoggletog log this year because she's traveling.
Well, if you did have a fireplace, I wouldn't worry too much about your father's squint. Human supersitions are silly sometimes.
Whisper: *in the distance* Hey! I heard that!
Me and my gang would love one of those magical logs to keep us warm! :-)
Where do you find one? My poor night terrors and I are left sleeping out in the cold expect for one of my new recruits, Seed Fall. He is a bit of a clutz (hence the fall part) and maybe a little daft. He likes to sleep underground. Strange right? And Berk is too far away to fly because my Night Terror's wings freeze and they fall down to the ground stiff as a board. So maybe you could fly the log to the edge? :-)
<----Seed Fall
Oh, that is an issue! Let me just see here...ah, I know! My friend, Oakthorn the Timberjack, can cut down a log for you. And I'm sure Winterwind will help me carrying it to Dragon's Edge. We'll have it to you in no time!
That sounds great! If you guys want to stay on Dragon's Edge we would love some more company for Snoggletog. :-)
Merry Snoggletog!
*Hiccup decided to put a bunch of pine needles with decorations around me he said it looked festive. It's itchy but I like looking "festive". :-D
Why, thank you, kind madam! *munches berries delightedly* Winter King. I think I can get used to that title.
Very nice, glad you're making friends and getting an even bigger ego. Now would you get off my account?!
*swallows the last of the berries and exams golden claws absently* Talk to the admins about that.
Ugh! I swear, I submitted a request for his account weeks ago! :/
So who are you, friendly girl? I did not meet you last Snoggletog, yet Whisper seems to know you well.
Dasher, meet Owl and her dragon Shadow. Owl and Shadow, Dasher.
A pleasure, kind mistresses.
Laying it on thick, aren't ya?
She gave me berries.
*facepalm*
