A Small Notice...
This is a little privacy thing.
I noticed some people had some links in thier sigs that led to Google Docs. I was getting rid of a bunch of useless files in my Drive a while ago, and noticed these Docs. I would recommend not using Docs for siggy links, as I believe they can reveal your real name to anyone who has viewed the link. (if the account you used was under your real name. Otherwise, you're good, as far as I know). There are a bunch of other sites you could use.
That's all, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
This is a good tip. Always mind your own privacy.
It's unbelievable how many real names of people I stumbled upon unwillingly. A lot of them are minors, too. Please mind your own privacy and safety. Don't ever use your real name online at all if you can.
This depends entirely on whether or not you use your name in your primary email, and if you are using your primary email for the documents.
I always use my other email address when opening and sharing documents. It is very important that opening doc links will also reveal your name so make sure you are logged in to another account or do so on your incognito tab
Yep, what Wolf and Star and Varku said. Always mind your privacy.
Definetely!
The google connected links i have i made sure they didnt collect any private information, i use forms and adjusted settings to make sure it doesnt collect emails at all.
And if you use google as your browser you can create a chrome profile with no email connected, that way if you enter into a link that requires email it will either let you know that you have to sign in before continuing or itll tell you you cant access without having your email signed in.
You can also go incognito mode which will keep any personal information private, but i suggest the first method to be safe.
I use the forums on a chrome profile that doesnt have any email, so whenever i click a link it'll let me know that i have to sign in. If it does require email i wont proceed.
Remember to stay safe on the internet! And keep an email without your real name for social media, the forums etc to be even safer!
Oh, yeah I agree with ya! 100% percent!
thanks for the tip! privacy is crucial online.
True.
A tip for those who use internet pseudonyms (i.e, invented names/nicknames), I would suggest creating a mail account using said pseudonym.
I made mine under my pen name and that way it's harder for links across different media to reveal irl information. It's just a safety precaution, is all.
Oh...that is a VERY GOOD idea, Emerald! I put that to mind! Thanks!
Thanks for having our back, Likylo ;)
Yeah, thanks!
I'm glad to know!
I'm hopelessly new at the signatures, so I can't even figure out how to add photos, much less links! haha!
It is good to know this, in case I ever do figure out my signature!
Thanks for keeping our backs!
Sure! Please teach me the ways of the forums!
The best thing you can do if you are really concerned about getting your dox out in the wild, is to create different e-mail addresses for different services, and don't give the e-mail addresses any name that can be social engineered back to you. Even nicknames/online names should be avoided in many cases as long as they are unique. Don't use services like gmail or hotmail.
Social engineering nowadays is easy, but if something leaks or happens, you'll know exactly which website has done so, and if someone's trying to find someone else through an e-mail address called bigstinkytoot@fatfart.com that's used for only one thing, they'll have a much harder time.
Yep, that's actually, very true, Varku. If you want to avoid being doxed, or anything, what I do/or what my mom does, is that we install a virus protection thingy on your devices, and that makes attackers harder to get into your software.
Yes and no. Antivirus software protects you from malware, but it does nothing against people doing some social engineering. There's often no need for hacking when it comes to doxing.
Yep, also true. Even though my mom put it on her old computer, viruses still managed to get on.
I know, that's why I included that part in brackets as well :)
