Rip off HTTYD movie?
I wouldn't call it a rip-off.
(before you read my mini-rant, know that I'm not judging you, just the assumption that it's a rip-off)
Stories and movies of dragon-rising have existed LONG before HTTYD ever did. If Dragon Rider is a rip-off, then what about Pete's Dragon? That's a movie where a boy rides a dragon. Does that make it a rip-off too? Yes, it may have its similarities to HTTYD and SoD, but that doesn't mean they're ripping it off. I wouldn't be surprised if the HTTYD franchise was inspiration, because it's one of the most well-known universes for books/games/films out there.
Those youtube comment section really rub me the wrong way. But yeah i agreed with drake, i wouldn't call this a rip off either.
I believe that "Dragon Rider" the book was an inspiration for HTTYD...
Its really good if you havent read it! :D
Maybe this new movie is based upon it?
How to Train Your Dragon was inspired by a line of books called How To Train Your Dragon. This book meanwhile is indeed the insparation for this new movie. Dragon rider and HTTYD aren't really linked other then maybe someone seeing HTTYD and remembering this book (and a reference joke in the movie it seems).
It is a good book by the way. I read it too. Can't say the movie has the same tone as the book if I'm judging just by the trailer. It does however look like it follows its source material's plot a little closer then HTTYD did even if the tone is that of a comidy rather then the book's serious grand adventure. (Not that that's a high bar. The HTTYD movie was a result of people basically throwing out the source material's entire story and making their own thing. A practice I have always hated even when the results end up making something that is good in its own right as it lessens the chance of a movie that actually shows the books story ever coming out)
OH MY THOR CORNILIA FUNKE! I LOVED that book when I was a kid! Even own a copy! Brendan Frasier even narrates the audio version! OH MY GODS OMG OMGOMG! I WAS HOPING THEY'D MAKE IT INTO A MOVIE! Though, I was kinda hoping to see Drake and his brownie buddy (that little fox girl) in live action like Eragon
Yeah, I'm not really a fan of the artstyle the movie makers went with myself. It looks kind of like the good dinosaur's artstyle which....I just don't think it right for this story.
I hope it ends up being better then the trailer implys as it looks like the tone of the movie is completly different from its book version.
Of course trailers are h.ard to figure out comidy quality from. For some reason people who make trailers love making movies as cheesey looking as possible even when it's a good movie. Like Moana had some trailers that just did not do the movie justice at all. For some reason they focused on that one throwaway joke with the random dancing kid so much that I thought he was going to be a main charicter.
no kidding, they shoulda done the silver dragons in live action. That alchemy made dragon for instance would look better in a LOTR style of animation like they did with Smaug (despite the fact they turned him from a dragon into a wyvern - I mean seriously people, he walked on his wings! Dragons have 4 LEGS he was specifically described as being a DRAGON not a Wyvern!)
I think they could've done well with full animation if maybe they just don't have the skills to mesh live action and CGI like that.
But they still should've made something more realistic or a little more "cool" rather then going for a 100% cute artstyle.
Like, this looks like The Good Dinosaur in its creature designs.
That movie was fine but I really don't think that artstyle fits the story from this book.
Everybody's just so rounded and soft looking.
I mean seriously, Drake is supposed to look like SAPHIRA OF ALL DRAGONS! And she actually looks like a dragon! Eragon got that much right at least in the movie! And that metal dragon would look scarier in CGI at the minimum! They could've make him with Smaug's model of animation with the dragon body type
I wouldn't go so far as to say movie Drake doesn't look like a dragon. He just....looks like a cutesy one. If this movie didn't have a grand epic adventure with some actually kind of serious topics touched on it would've been fine. The style just doesn't fit the tone of the book is all which makes me worry that the movie has a totally different tone from the book. On one hand that could make the style choice work better then it seems to in the trailer but on the other.....it could also make things super worse if it wasn't handled tastefully. Deffinitly a movie to aprouch with aprension. Hope for the best, brace for the worst.
Which is exactly my problem with it. He looks like Maui decided to turn into a dragon and got stuck that way
People riding dragons doesn't mean it's a HTTYD rip off. If anything, I see inspiration drawn from it for the movie (plus it's based on a book). Careful calling anything that looks like another a rip off.
The trailer alludes to the main character being a massive HTTYD fan based on the poster on the building + the way the kid is dressed. I thought that was amazing. I wanna see the movie after seeing that xD
have you heard of game of trones? the dragons in that have 2 legs 2 wings. there are 4 (ish) types of dragons in this world (earth) (that i can think of of the top om my head) europian dragons 4 legs 2 wings treasure fire breathing all around nasty, wyverns, 2 legs 2 wings no clue where the origonated are in game of trones as a non fire breathing species (the dragons in that have 2 legs 2 wings as well but breath fire) chinese dragons big long fly by magic not wings (i think) elimental (i think) and amarican dragons aka feathered serpants.
if 2 legs 2 wings is not a dragon what about stormfly and hookfang.
