Loteva -Moonshadow elf

After failing to fall asleep, Loteva decided to pack her bags. Adrenaline raced through her blood, making the elf feel jittery, like she had just been hit with a full bucket of cold water. The energy felt really strong now. She had very few things in her possession: a lyre, her journal, a thin blanket, her weapons, and several spices for cooking. Loteva turned the leather bound journal over in her hand, tapping the spine with a spindly finger. Part of her wanted to open it up and read what was waiting inside, but temptation was a dangerous thing. She shoved it into her bag, pushing the object away. Maybe assassin training had taught her one good thing after all. She stood up, knees sore and wobbly from sitting in the same position. Before sneaking out of her makeshift shelter, Loteva pulled her hood over her horns, stretching it to its full extent so it covered her eyes. And so, she brushed past the unhinged door, pulled her scarf up, and began to head to the caldera.

Bixby looked around right outside of Silvergrove "...where is the earthblood elf village?" She wondered to herself. She was good enough at navigation, but she was more of an insomniac and was better at night, she decided to wait a bit until the sun set to head out on her mission. Until then she returned back.

Moremi- Skywing Elf

She'd quickly thrown some food and a map into her knapsack, slinging her quiver over her back and leaving the city as the sun slowly rose into the sky. The horse that she had borrowed for the journey, also her brothers, was a somewhere between a chesnut and golden color and a strong steed. Moremi stroked his side gently as they walked along, the sun now beating down on her. But the heat didn't bother her, in fact, it invigorated her, giving her energy when the long hours on horseback wore her down.

The Sunfire elf travelled for several days before reaching the Caldera, stopping at night to rest in towns (i she could reach or find one) when she was weakest and leaving at first dawn. The trip was tiresome, and she was not used to such a great length of travel, but the thought of finally being able to be useful and prove herself gave her energy when she had none. At long last, she left her brother's horse at the Xadian town closest to the Caldera, knowing that she would have to make the rest of the journey on foot. Not only would she need to remain undetected, but she knew that bringing a horse to face the steep incline and foretold monsters of the Caldera was not a wise deciscion.

The humans in this area were few and far between, like bugs struggling to survive. Yet still, especially given the precarious situation of the past few weeks, with war between Xadia and the human towns imminent, it was important that she travel under the cover of darkness to remain undetected. This new way of travelling tired her, both from the lack of sleep and the lack of energy from the sun, and it took her almost an entire day longer  to travel than she had thought. The few times she had seen a human she had kept her hood up, hoping that the mysterious figure she cut (as well as the bow and arrow that she carried with her) would discourage any interaction even given the times.

At long last, she arrived at the base of the Caldera, just as the moon had risen and the sun had set. A storm eneveloped all that she could see, seemingly only raining down on the Caldera and not on the area surrouding it. Supposing that this was only part of what made the area dangerous and warned away curious humans, she began to scale it, cursing under her breath as the rain began to come down on her. It wouldn't rust her armor, the sunforged metal was to strong to be bothered by something as trivial as water, but her hair and skin were not as protected as she would have wished.

The higher and higher she climbed, the more tense she became, expecting to find some kind of horrific monster around every switchback. Having not yet come across one, she soon encountered another issue: actually making her way up the Caldera itself. The air was increasingly thinner the longer she travelled. She had to rest more often than she would have liked, trying fuitely to catch her breath. The air around her radiated energy, but it was energy from the moon, not something that she could tap into to give her strength. It hung around her, so thick that she could almost feel it, yet it was still elusive, helpful to someone but not to her.

Hours dragged by. She could not tell if it was night or day, so thick was the storm, and she was in such a constant state of fatigue that natural signals did her no good. Finally, when she was so high up that she could not see the ground below her, but still could not see the peak of the mountain where she knew the entrance to the moon nexus lay, she resolved to find somewhere where she could rest and hopefully make it out of the rain. Walking for another half hour, her armor almost as heavy as her limbs, she saw a faint glow coming from what appeared to be a small cae in the side of the Caldera. Fatigue suddenly forgotten, she gripped her bow and drew an arrow from the quiver on her back. Was it possible that this was simply some other traveler, whether human or elf, or could it be the first monster that she would encounter?

Creeping forward slowly, she decided that her best course of action would be to try and reason with whatever it was first. Besides, she preffered to talk through her options first and then fight later.

"Hello?" She called, hoping that whatever was in the apparent cave was elf and not human.

Lathri \Skywing Elf/

The elf accepted the food, but sniffed it before eating. Suspicious much? But before Lathri could say anything, the other popped the food into her mouth and introduced herself as Gale with a flourishing bow.

“As to why I am here...that’s a long story,” Gale went on, her cheerful exterior sobering a little as her eyes clouded over. “There is someone there who I think is the only one who can help me...” She looked at her hands, silent for a moment before looking up again with a not entirely convincing smile. “How about yourself? If it is not too much to ask.”

“I’m hoping the Guardian or the Nexus can teach me the Moon Arcanum,” Lathri replied a bit absently. She didn’t know what bothered Gale, but it sounded like it might be a medical problem and she knew the Moon Guardian was falsely rumored as a miracle healer. She tried to decide if she should pry a little more and perhaps warn Gale her chances for a miracle recovery were not good.

She knew this could be considered sticking her nose into someone else's business, but if Gale was hoping for a magical cure for whatever ailment was afflicting her, it might be kinder to have her suffer the blow now instead of after having struggled up the Caldera for naught.

Before she could make a decision however, they heard a voice drifting in through the storm. “Hello?”

Lathri got up and peered out of the cave warily, wondering if it was one of the infamous possibly-illusionary monsters roaming this place. Then again, a monster probably wouldn’t politely announce itself.

The area seemed to have a high elf density tonight. It was a Sunfire elf. What’s she doing here?

“Hey! Come on...uh, in?” she offered, glancing uncertainly at Gale. The cave wasn’t big, and it would be uncomfortably crowded for the three of them. But they couldn’t just leave the Sunfire elf out in the raging storm either, could they?

Moremi| Sunfire Elf

The last thing Moremi expected to see when she spoke was two Skywing elves, and certainly not two winged ones. From what she knew about the race, it was rather uncommon. And even more uncommon still for the three of them to have come across each other under such strange circumstances. Perhaps they were also on their way to the moon nexus, maybe even dignitaries in their own right. Surely it must be the only logical reason for why anyone would come to such a treachoruous place in this weather. She looked around the cave the two other elves were standing in front of. It was small, not big enough to house her small frame, but it was dry, and in that it was already better than her current location. And best of all, there was a fire, small but sturdy, the light and heat drawing her in almost unknowingly.
"Thank you." She said in response to their offer. It was a relief to have refuge, no matter how small, from the rain. It would take a long time for her to dry off, especially with the fire as small as it was. She wished that she possessed any sort of magic abilities, even as basic as those that would allow her to grow the fire between her two palms. As she sat down, she looked again at the two Skywing elves. They both looked rather surprised, but not immediately threatening, so she figured she at least owed them her name and why she was here.
"My name is Moremi." She said, trying to muster up a smile despite her bleak situation. "I was sent by General Janai to the Moon Nexus to inform it's keeper of the Queen's passing and shift in power." Surely they would know by now of what had happened, of how vulnerable the Sunfire people were at this very moment.

((Just gonna have Bixby go to the moon nexus cause I'm not sure what to do with her, hope that's alright with you guys))

"*sigh* I'm to tired to dance, I'll just head back later" Bixby said as she gave a shrug. She then put her head in her hands as her drowsiness grew "Maybe I'll head somewhere calm to clear my head..." She thought for a bit "I got it! I'll go to the moon nexus *yawn* that place is pretty calm"

Aspen put Amos in his little living quarters, where a humming bird and moth chilled today. She glanced outside her window to see the stables, where many mounts ate at their meals. Other elves chilled about or stood guard, but what caught her eye was her parents.. Both of them heading to their home, wearing serious expressions.
What did I do now? She sighed and flopped on her bed, mentally preparing herself for some scolding and a punishment. But she soon sat up in her bed wearing a confused expression.

"I didn't do anything wrong!" She threw her hands in the air and hopped off her bed, she then grabbed Amos-who squeaked angrily- and headed downstairs to confront her parents.

"Aspen?" Her mother called up

"What Ma?" She came down the stairs trying to seem innocent.

"Ah Aspen," her father then said "We need to talk-"

"I SWEAR I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!" Aspen shouted

"We weren't going to blame you-" her mother started

"I did my chores, I took care of Tar and I even listened in training and-"

"Aspen! Honey we weren't saying you did anything wrong- besides you forgot to clean your room- but we have something for you to do," her father made a calming motion with his hands giving a chuckle.

"Okay???" Aspen blinked and pulled up a chair, oddly knowing she might need it. Her parents started to explain to her that she had a super secret misson, so secret that only the Moon Nexus guardian will know what Aspen needed when she tells her "The moon is bright tonight"

"This is crazy! A mission for me?" Aspen clapped and did a mini cheer. She was the least expected person to get chosen for a solo mission. Without another word she hurried to her room, packed then ran back down and out the door to get Tar her stag.

"She won't know-" Aspen's mother sighed looking at her husband

"But she's not ready for war, she's just a baby," Father hugged his wife, knowing this was for the best

(I guess I'll just make Aspen go to the moon nexus too... Might as well since I have nothing else to do XD)

((I thought Bixby and Aspen were gonna meet up at the Eathblood village? At least, that is what it seemed like was going to happen. Lol, all off to Moon Nexus we go!))

((And only Gale has the wings @JediwhorideDragons. I believe Larthi can only do mage wings, which turns her arms into wings for the duration of the spell then reverts back to arms afterwards))

“I’m hoping the Guardian or the Nexus can teach me the Moon Arcanum,” Lathri stated.

Gale tilted her head, taken by suprise at the information. She did not tihnk that SkyWing elves could perform Moon Magic. Wasn't something only StarTouch Elves could do? Master multiple arcanums? Unless this elf had some arcanum stone or object she was not aware of. Which was also entirely possible.

And something that Gale would want to steal.
Larthi seemed to be having her own thoughts, if the expression she was wearing waas anything to go off it. It was almost... conflicted.

Gale met her eyes with a questioning look, her silverly hair falling in sheets from off her shoulder.

"Hello?"

Yet another voiced asked quietly, causing Gale to jump slightly. Having learned from the last time, she did not move to retrieve her weapon. Instead she merely turned her head to see a figure standing in the rain, not seeming all too comfortable with it. A sunfire elf.

What was a SunFire elf doing so far away from her home? In the rain?

This must have been her worst nightmare.

"“Hey! Come on...uh, in?” Larthi invited the third elf in.

Gale arched an eyebrow but shrugged. "I guess."

"My name is Moremi." The Sunfire elf introduced herself, shouldering her way into the cave and somehow managing to fit inside. It was incredibly cramped, forcing Gale to scoot closer to larthi to accomodate. Her bulky wings were pressed almost painfully against the rear wall. "I was sent by General Janai to the Moon Nexus to inform it's keeper of the Queen's passing and shift in power."

"I've heard." Gale remarked solemnly with a tip of her head. "My deepest condolences to you and your city... humans are quite the wretched beasts." She spat the word sourly, her expression darkening slightly before she seemed to regain her composure. "My name is Gale. I am here because something was taken from me. Something very important that I want back." She murmured vaguely, deciding not to bother these strangers with the details.

"*pant* why did I choose to walk all this way? *pant* I shoulda just made camp where I was! And to make things worse I choose somewhere located ON A MOUNTAIN!" Bixby complained as she treked along to the moon nexus, she had complained and moaned to herself the whole way there.

Moremi decided not to question Gale any further, knowing that such a deliberately ambiguous and intriguing response would yield further explanation should the situation require it. She smiled at her comment about humans; nothing united the elves of different races more than their hatred of humankind. Bowing her head as much as she could manage in the cramped cave, where her head was already bowing down in order to fit, Moremi realized for the first time how much the loss of her queen must have impacted the rest of Xadia as well. Queen Khessa was well loved and respected across the entire evlen kingdom, and a new wave of grief hit her again.
"Thank you." She cleared her throat, looking around and finding herself at a loss for words. "Do you know how long the storm might go on for? I don't want to burden either of you any longer." She looked outside, as if somehow they would cease to exist simply because she asked it to.

Thank you." Moremi's voice seemed siezed with grief, she eventually cleared it out and spoke again. "Do you know how long the storm might go on for? I don't want to burden either of you any longer."

Gale chuckled dryly and shook her head. "It blew in a few days ago. I planned to wait it out up it has not relented. I think it's magic. And I think it is there to prevent me from flying to the top." She folded her arms. "Because nothing in life can be simple. However... maybe we could help each other?" She turned towards Lathri briefly, knowing that the SkyWing Mage could help them get through the storm without a singlr drop of water hitting their skin. But she wasn't sure how open Lathri was about her magic with other species snd thus chose to remain silent as Gale gazed questioningly at her

((Heigh h.o, heigh h.o, up to the Moon Nexus we go...

And no, Lathri doesn't have wings, but she can do the mage-wings spell.))

The Sunfire elf, whose name turned out to be Moremi, squeezed into the cave with them and explained: “I was sent by General Janai to the Moon Nexus to inform its keeper of the Queen's passing and shift in power.”

“I’m sorry,” Lathri said, dipping her head in respect. Next to her, Gale did the same. Lathri knew Sunfire society was built on a strict hierarchy, unlike Skywings' largely nomadic and thus much looser lifestyle. She could hardly imagine how much that system had been shaken by the passing of their Queen.

“Humans are quite the wretched beasts,” Gale spat, with a dark expression. "My name is Gale. I am here because something was taken from me. Something very important that I want back.”

Privately, Lathri wondered if humans were really all that bad. Sure, the m.urders of the Dragon Prince and now the Sunfire Queen were unforgivable crimes, but did that justify hating their entire species? There were evil elves too, wasn’t it a bit shortsighted to just assume all humans were bad, based on the actions of a few?

She’d passed through a number of human towns on her way here, curious. They had seemed pretty harmless, going about their day-to-day lives and even helping each other. But seeing Moremi nod along with Gale, Lathri decided to keep her silence on the matter.  She wondered what it was Gale wanted.

“Do you know how long the storm might go on for? I don't want to burden either of you any longer,” Moremi asked, her voice sounding strained.

“It blew in a few days ago. I planned to wait it out up it has not relented. I think it's magic. And I think it is there to prevent me from flying to the top,” Gale replied dryly. “Because nothing in life can be simple. However... maybe we could help each other?” She looked at Lathri expectantly.

The storm was definitely there to prevent them from reaching the top, but Lathri decided to keep her theory of the storm being an illusion to herself for the time being. She noticed Moremi shivering, and quickly grabbed her spellbook again. Despite having cast the spell minutes earlier, she still needed to check the rune before doing it again and blowing Moremi dry.

“I'm Lathri. Sure, we can help each other,” she then said, smiling. “I can’t stop the storm, but I can lessen its effects on us. But I’m terrible at fighting, so how’s this: I keep us dry, and you two protect us from whatever dangerous monster we encounter?”

Lathri once again pulled out her mysterious spellbook.
She checked the runes before casting the exact same spell she had done minutes prior.
Gale tilted her head slightly. Even she remembered the rune and words required to perform the magic. Perhaps Larthi was one of those elves who had to fact check everything to ensure that it was perfect.
“Sure, we can help each other,” Larthi stated with a pleasant expression. “I can’t stop the storm, but I can lessen its effects on us. But I’m terrible at fighting, so how’s this: I keep us dry, and you two protect us from whatever dangerous monster we encounter?”
Gale delivered a cool, almost wicked but playful smile. "Gladly." She purred as she retrieved one of her daggers, spinning it expertly but daintily along her finger tips.
She was mostly self taught when it comes to combat, hence why she had taken a shine to wearing rings. Lots of rings. Her form could be considered sloppy or even uncontrolled, but it was definitely effective. Travelling as frequently as she does requires some level of self defense, one she had been honing for years

((Yes a fun adventure heading to the Moon Nexus >:D))

Aspen had packed several things for herself, Amos and Tar including weapons. This mission was way too good to be true! She was the youngest so it was common for her to be treated like a baby, even though she was well passed the age of a child.

Once prepared she headed towards the stables, giving her parents one last hug before she set off. Their faces were joyful but their eyes told something else- relief? Sorrow?...Goodbye? Aspen shook her head and said a final goodbye before heading to the stables to grab Tar, who seemed excited about the trip too-its been a while since he's done anything important.

Her stag was a pretty tall creature, gray and speckled with black spots in which he was named after. She put on the saddle and bridle, threw her bag over the rear and then mounted the large deer waving another goodbye to her parents who watched sorrowfully. She gripped the reins and kicked her heels twice into the stag's sides signaling the creature to go and with that her "mission" began.

"It's for the best," Father nodded a final goodbye before going inside

"But she will know this was all a ploy once she says the phrase," Mother followed with tears

"She can't be here in case they arrive," Father sighed embracing his wife once more.

Moremi nodded, a smile starting to play across her face. She readjusted her bow in her ands and drew a bow from her quiver. She felt better knowing that there was a mage amongst their group, especially when they would face who knows what kind of monsters going up the rest of the Caldera. "Gladly."

The ride was pretty slow. Amos kept squeaking after an hour to eat, but Aspen knew they had to ration everything between the three of them. Other than that the ride was smooth and there was no signs of any humans. Excitement coursed through her veins as she got closer to the moon nexus, she checked the map she brought every so often, making sure she didn't need to change course or didn't miss a turn. They did stop once only to eat, Tar grazed in a nearby pasture while Amos took some of the oats Aspen brought, she ate some bread herself trying not to eat all of it.

“Gladly,” both her companions said, showing off their weapons. Lathri smiled in relief. Even if the monsters were fake, they would doubtless be terrifying. Having others with her made her feel better.

She flipped open her spellbook again. She would probably have to be quick on her feet tomorrow, so she’d better try to burn some useful spells into her memory as much as possible.

"You're a mage." She said, acknowledging the elves spellbook. Once again she wished she herself could have had mastery over even some of the most basic spells, though even if she could, the weather and location was so far removed from her source of power that she doubted it would be much use.

Gale stood up, grabbing her sack and weapons. She poured some water over the fire, drowning it into smoke which filled the cave with a pasty stench.
"We don't have time to dally, if you feel well enough to begin our ascent, we should." Gale addressed Moremi. "We also need that nifty little spell." She dipped her head towards Lathri

“You’re a mage,” Moremi observed. Lathri flashed a smile in her direction. “Only Sky Arcanum for now, but yeah. I’m terrible at remembering runes though, so I should probably try to memorize some if we’re facing off against monsters.”

Gale didn’t seem willing to wait though. She grabbed her stuff and doused the fire, forcing the other two to their feet.

“We don’t have time to dally, if you feel well enough to begin our ascent, we should,” the Skywing said, looking at Moremi. “We also need that nifty little spell,” she added, with a significant glance at Lathri.

“Yeah, yeah, all right, I’m just – hold this,” Lathri rambled, flipping the book open on the right page and pushing it into Gale's hands so she could see the rune. She drew it in the air, knowing she would only need to cast it once to affect all three of them. “Pluviam repulsum!”

She stepped out of the cave, smiling at the familiar feeling of being dry while standing in pouring rain. She plucked her spellbook back, bagged it, and grinned. “Let’s go!”

Moremi nodded, ducking out back into the storm. When the mage had completed her spell, it was as if she was still under the caves rocky covering, yet just beyond her, rain fell as hard as ever. She was rushed with a feeling of intense relief knowing that no matter what lay ahead, at least she would be dry.

After quite a while of treking up the mountain and barely escaping different kinds of creatures Bixby eventually made it to her desired location, the moon nexus. As soon as she made it their she plopped herself in the ground "finally, I'm here..." she groaned as she dug her face into the dirt.

At long last, Aspen and her animal friends had reached the location of the moon nexus... Or at least where the journey up to it started. Up the mountain. And near that mountain was a village... A human village. Aspen wrinkled her nose at the sight of the odd and boring humans, she even swore that she could smell their foul odor. She glanced up at the mountain and sighed. How was she going to climb that?! Tar gave a snort of fear at the sight of the mountain, he started backpedaling away from it.

"No no no Tar! I'm not gonna make you climb that..." she sighed knowing she couldn't let him "You stay here and keep out of sight," She told him as she mounted. She stroked his muzzle looking him in the eyes to calm him back down. Amos mistook her comment as both the animals stayed here, and he hopped onto the stag's horns.

"Amos! No you're coming with me, I have to have someone to talk to!" She picked up the snail and set him on her own horns, he gave several small snorts of dismay and anger.

Loteva - Moonshadow elf

Loteva squinted at the beast of the mountain's shadow, clearly having second thoughts about climbing the caldera. It did say "Cursed" in it, did it not? But with a shrug and a sigh, she took the first step. Then another, and repeated the action over and over again.

She walked for an hour without stopping, and learned several things. First of all, it wasn't cursed. There were no monsters. Silly humans. Secondly, everything was barren and dead. Every tree stood rigid, without any foliage. Unlike Xadia, where all the trees stood tall and strong and proud. And third, you couldn't count on a path to be your guide.

The Moonshadow elf sat down on a log to take a breather. She whipped out her waterskin, and took a sip of the lukewarm water. She was about to drink more before she herd the noise.

SHREEE. CRCK. TCK. SHREEE.

It was a wonder Loteva didn't go on her pants right then and there. With a hesitant glance, she looked behind and up. Dangling from the biggest spider web she had ever seen, was a gigantic spider. She backed away, brandishing the dual swords she carried. She hated spiders. She grabbed her back, and ran. Loteva never ran away from her problems, unless it was a spider, than yes. The elf shut her wild eyes, and swung her swords in the air. When she opened them a crack, she didn't see anything. No dead spider body. She looked around in confusion, and came to the realization she was surrounded by spider webs. She had been led right into a trap, and if she didn't hurry, she would become dinner. Thankfully, she was able to cut through all of them with ease. Now that she was in the clear, Loteva made a mental note to cross 'The Cursed Caldera isn't cursed' off the list of things she had learned. That spider was much too big to be natural, and had that been a glowing face on its back?

She walked for a few hours longer, glancing back every so often to make sure nothing was following her. Every so often, she'd see a shape in the shadows, but they all disappeared after a second look.

Exhausted and weirded out, she slumped against one of the many cliff faces. After a second of adjusting back to the present, she heard more noises. But they weren't clicks and clack of a monster. They sounded like voices. Voices of other elves. She looked up, and saw a brief flash of light. Was that a spell?

Wariness turned into curio. Perhaps she'd check out who they were. Like why they were here? She heaved a sigh. No harm in trying, right?

( Sorry this was so late! I was watching Comic Con almost all day XD)

Nightingale -Gale- |SkyWing Elf|

Gale stepped into the rain, glancing up towards the sky. Although the howling winds tousled her hair and stirred her feathers,  she remained untouched by the soaking water. Moremi looked as relieved as her her to remain dry.

With a quick nod and a glance at her travelling companions, Gale cracked her neck then began her advance up the mountain, drawing her weapon in case any monsters decided to rear its ugly face. She started at a brisk, measured pace. The dampened earth definitely posed a bit of an issue and the squelching of mud clinging to her boots sectioned her into the ground. But they were quickly able to hike upwards, the small cave in which they had resided in shortly all but disappearing behind them in the mists of the rain

Zerina - Moon elf

Zerina of course, knew of the arrival of the elves. She flew over the Moon Nexus on Aquila's back, the bird cawing when she saw the elves. Her Aunt was already testing them to see if they were truly the ones that were supposed to be here. Their current illusion? Zeri provided invisibility to hide them from view.

This is going to be fun. Wonder how the Sunfire is going to react. Zerina thouht to herself as she watched the spider illusion from the air as it scared out of an approaching elf

Aspen patted Tar's back one last time before unsaddling him and allowing him to wander. She watched as he pranced a little ways away and ate at the grass before she turned back to face the mountain. With a sigh she trecked around the village, giving it glares as she passed, and looked up from the base of the mountain.

"This is going to be rough..." she told Amos who gave several small grunts of agreement "Well lets get started..." she then started to climb up the mountain, which wasn't too bad at the base.

Her companions seemed relieved at staying dry and she smiled, happy to have helped them with a pretty simple spell. They set off up the mountain with Gale at the front.

They made okay time. Not as fast as if she’d flown, but there was no way she could beat the storm, so considering the circumstances they were doing fine. The rain had turned the ground into mud, but there wasn’t much she could do about that. Maybe if I ever learn the Earth Arcanum.

Suddenly she was jerked from her thoughts by a bloodcurdling shriek. A nightmarishly big spider appeared in front of them. She’d been right about being terrified, she realized grimly. Even though she rationally knew the spider was very probably an illusion, her instincts still screamed at her to run away now and never look back.

But she held her ground, waiting to see what Gale and Moremi would do and hoping she wouldn’t fail them.

Nightingale -Gale- |SkyWing Elf|

Despite the mild inconvience the mud posed against their trek, Gale otherwise was beginning to find their walk enjoyable. The awkward silence that hung thickly betweent the three strangers did nothing to aleviate the sullen feeling, though. Gale was about to attempt to spark a conversation with ther travelling companions to hopefully rectify this when the sound of a hair-raising howl pierced the damp air.

It was a wretched sound, like a woman in pain. A cry for help.

Tensing immediately, Gale instictively pulled her sword into a defensive stance just as a grotestquely large spider droped form the canopy. Its mangled hairy limbs twisted at odd angles as it dragged its heavy body towards them, creating skid marks in the mud.

Gale jumped back, her wings springing outward as her inital instict was to flee. But she managed to catch herself, remembering her promise to Lathri.

The Spider lunged towards their hapless mage and Gale interjected as fast she she could. Bringing her sword across its abdomen. The moonshadow sword glowed brightly, interacting with the illusion in a way only other objects from the moon arcanum could. The illusion dispelled almost immediately. Gale tripped forward, the force at which she had swung the weapon was intended to pierce the hard exoskeleton on the insect, instead no resistence was met as the sword sliced right through thin air.

Staggering, Gale just managed to prevent herself from face planting in the mud. "Ugh, bloody moonshadow illusions." She mumbled drly

Moremi-Skywing Elf

Moremi kept her head down as the trekked up the Caldera, watching as flecks of mud slowly covered her silver and gold sunforged boots. She shivered, not accustomed to such low temperatures, and wished briefly that the group would pause, even for a moment, to grant her a short break. Climbing in such high altitudes so disconnected from her primal source of energy was slowly exhausting her.

She was just about to ask to stop for a moment when a scream broke out, shattering through the sounds of falling rain and cracking wind. Moremi jumped, almost losing her balance and slipping in the mud (something that had already occured several times, much to her chagrin). A spider, bigger than the likes of any she had ever seen in her life by at least fifty-fold, was suddenly blocking her path. She drew an arrow, aiming it straight at the spider's head in one fluid motion. But before she could relase it, Gale struck her sword straight into the beast, and instead of slicing it open like she would have expected, the sword only glowed where it connected with the spider.

"Bloody moonshadow illusions." Gale said, almost falling over and not sounding amused in the slightest. On her part, it was all Moremi could do to not fall over in shock herself.

"What is this thing?" She asked, the spider now standing dormant as if the large piece of metal lobbed at it's stomach shouldn't have just killed him in an instant.

Both her companions rose to the challenge magnificently, but as Lathri had expected the spider proved fake, and Gale was left stumbling through thin air when she tried to gut it. “Bloody Moonshadow illusions,” she growled.

“What is this thing?” Moremi asked, clearly not understanding yet.

“An illusion,” Lathri explained, making her way around the now frozen spider. “Moon magic. Pretty sure the storm is too.”

She sighed and gazed over the view, despite constant visits to the Moon Nexus Bixby actually didn't know any moon magic. The thought of learning it never really occurred to her as she just used her trusty weapons when it came to fighting. "Maybe I should give it a shot" she mumbled as she layed back on the ground again.

Moremi- Skywing Elf

"An illusion?" Moremi echoed, still slightly confused. She knew that moon mages were capable of creating a whole range of illusions, but it had never before occured to her that the fabled monsters gaurding the Cursed Caldera would never have really existed at all. "Is everything on this mountain just an illusion?" she asked, wondering how in the world the rain could not be real if it was in fact so bothersome.

"Is everything on this mountain just an illusion?" Moremi murmured in curosity.

Nightingale sheathed her blade once more, once again resuming her trek up. "Most." Was all the said, trailing off ominiously before continuing in a rather conversational tone. It was incredibly light-hearted, as though she had already forgotten about the monster attack that had occured mere seconds prior. "So, Moremi. Did you live in the fabled Sunfire Elf City? I grew up in a small mobile village, so I never really got the whole city experience."

“Most,” Gale muttered darkly.

“I’m pretty sure you two are real,” Lathri joked, then sobered up. “I think the mountain itself is real, but everything intended to stop us, the storm, the monsters, is not. Doesn’t mean it can’t hurt us though, Moon illusions are very realistic.”

Gale’s tone turned suddenly conversational, making Lathri blink at her in surprise. “So, Moremi. Did you live in the fabled Sunfire Elf City? I grew up in a small mobile village, so I never really got the whole city experience."

Moremi- Sunfire Elf

Moremi's mind was pulled from trying to decipher exactly how moonshadow elf illusions worked when she was asked about her city. Memories came flooding back into her brain like the water that rushed down from the sky above to the ground below, memories of grand golden architecture, the brilliant sun blazing in the sky at high noon, and thousands of Sunfire elves, walking proudly with their heads held high above their shoulders.
"Lux Aurea?" She asked, stepping forward to try and wave a hand through the spider. This time around, she expected her hand to go straight through, but it didn't, and she instead got a palmful of scales and spider hair. Recoiling backwards, the spider didn't seem to react, as if he no longer cared to defend the Caldera now that they knew he wasn't real. Moremi wiled her hand on the side of the mountain, sliding over the slick rock. "It was magnificent. I think it's one of the most beautiful cities in all of Xadia. Everything is golden, so when the sun is out, buildings and people look like they're glowing. The whole city is based off of Sol Regem, the former Dragon King." Talking about her city in such a way filled her with pride, and she paused a moment, smiling and feeling warmer despite the cold, rainy weather.
"Where did you grow up?" She asked, trying to return the friendly gesture.

Zerina - Moon elf

Zerina smiled, watching the elves brave the storm and other illusions. That was good enough for her. She dispelled the illusion once they were near the top, revealing herself and her moon phoenix as a result. Aquila cawed, diving for the group and landing with barely a sound on owl silent wings.

"For a moment there, we were starting to think you guys might be humans! Only elves know for sure when Moon Arcanum magic is in use!" Zerina commented by way of greeting, swinging off her bird once Aquila cawed in greeting before preeing her feathers. "Just so you know, when we heard people were coming, I had to beg my Aunt to let me test out some of my new illusion traps this time." She admitted, rubbing the back of her head and blushing

Loteva - Moonshadow elf

Loteva heard a shriek come from above, and it sounded a lot like the spider she had encountered earlier. And was that.... Other voices. Her feet stopped trudging through the foot deep mud. She froze, her spine running cold. Were those the elves she had heard before? She waited for a few minutes, wondering what to do. But when she made her mind up to help, she saw a blinding flash of blue light shine from the moon's silver lining. A majestic moon phoenix descended, the faint outline of a person on it. Judging from the silhouetted shape of a pair of horns, she guessed it was another elf.

An exhale of incredious disbelief escaped her lips. What a beautiful bird. Loteva, now more curious and mystified than ever, began to quicken her pace.

((Already?))

Gale smiled dimly at the pride and nostalgia which Moremi spoke of her home.

"It sounds magical." She murmured wistfully,  and that she had never been able to witness it herself. At least in all of its glory before the humans tainted it.

"Where did you grow up?" Moremi inquired

"Oh." A faint flush fell onto Gale's cheeks. "No where nearly as interesting. Outside of the nexus, SkyWing elfes typically don't form permanent, grand cities. We live by the wind, going wherever the breeze takes us. And that is how I grew up."

Even if Gale wanted to expand on the topic, she could not have. A brilliant shimmer of moonlight directed her attention towards the large, majestic bird that had materialized before them. A moonshadow elven girl was perched on its back, nervously apologizing for their plights.

"Nonsense, sweet heart." Gale winked at her. "I found the hike to be quite relaxing... and much easier than people say."

As the other two exchanged stories about where they grew up, the spider suddenly vanished, as did the storm. In their place, a large, beautiful bird landed with a Moonshadow elf on its back. She complimented them with recognizing the illusions and admitted she had been the one to cast them.

“I found the hike to be quite relaxing,” Gale boasted. “Much easier than people say.”

Lathri snorted. “Sure you did,” she said, distinctly recalling a shivering figure in a cramped cave a few hours earlier. Turning to the Moonshadow elf, she adopted a more formal, respectful demeanor. “May we proceed to the Moon Nexus now?”

*I won't be able to reply this weekend as I'll be on a trip, but I'll try to reply when I can though*

Bixby then rolled over on her back and took a breath in "ahh, this place is so relaxing" she then shut her eyes, she didn't go to sleep though.

The beginning of the climb up to the Moon Nexus was fine, almost like a hike but when Aspen passed a certain point things got weird.... Things that shouldn't have been moving were moving, very large creatures came and went without a trace.

"Ugh, whhhhyyyy," she groaned and sat on a rock to rest. Amos replied with a squeak and nuzzled Aspen's cheek.

Before she could process Gale's answer, or note how much she clammed up upon responding, a large winged beast landed in front of the trio, seeming to glow in the moonlight. She believed that it was a Moon Pheonix, altough she wasn't sure. Riding astride the creature was a Moonshadow elf, almost glowing in the moonlight the same way that the Pheonix was.

"For a moment there, we were starting to think you guys might be humans! Only elves know for sure when Moon Arcanum magic is in use!"Just so you know, when we heard people were coming, I had to beg my Aunt to let me test out some of my new illusion traps this time." The moonshadow elf looked rather sheepish, as if she was just now realizing how much she could have startled the three of them. Moremi a few days later may be able to forgive her, but right now her heart was still racing from the appearance and sudden dissaperance of the massive spider.

"Nonsense, sweet heart. I found the hike to be quite relaxing... and much easier than people say." said Gale, adopting a non chalant manner as though they had merley been going for an afternoon stroll. Moremi let out a deep sigh, sheathing her arrow and returning the bow to her side. She decided to ask the obvious question, trying to keep her head on straight.

She didn't know who the Moonshadow elf was in front of her, only that she had clearly come from the Moon Nexus and was expecting their arrival. Lathari wasted no time in requesting that they move along to the Moon Nexus, but Moremi was still confused.

"Who are you?" she asked the Moonshadow elf.

Zerina - Moon elf

Zerina grinned, getting off Aquila to introduce herself to the other elves. She saw from the wings that one was a SkyWing and at least two were fellow Moonshadows.

"Name's Zerina, this is Aquila. Poor thing lost her leg to human poachers. So until she regenerates, I made her a prosthetic. My parents breed moon phoenixes, but they're fighting in the war with the humans right now." Zerina replied, introducing herself and her bird, showing them the bird's prosthetic leg. It was made from a mix of her lunar steel (which was still glowing gold to indicate summer), and regular aluminum for weight management. You could see a slight glow from the gold in the shimmer even in daylight with Lunar Steel, but right now, under the moonlight, it was obvious.

Aspen started to hate mountains, they were too big and too long... Usually she liked hikes but this? And with all these illusions that tried to stop her? It just made it ten times worse.

"Oh, that's..." Moremi bent her head, looking at the prosthetic limb glinting in the moonlight. "Amazing." She said after a moment, at a bit of a loss for words. She truly did not know the limits of Moonshadow elf magic.
