Regarding The Current Server Outage
Hi there friends,
I wanted to make a quick post letting you all know what you probably already know, which is that the servers are currently down. For the sake of transparency, here's what the team is doing to address it:
What happened:
At around 4:30 PM EST I noticed some threads on the forum saying the game is taking forever to load. I tested it for myself, confirmed there was an issue, and sent a message to the rest of the team at 4:50 PM informing them that the server is down.
Upon further investigation we noticed that the API responsible for getting user data (such as your vikings) suddenly became unresponsive. Since this API is unresponsive, the game will not receive all the data it requires to let you into the game and times out, resulting in the long loading time and inevitable error.
What we're doing now:
Our build coordinator has put up a server maintenance message while we work to figure out what's wrong. Our live ops team is reaching out to our server team with the aim of coordinating a plan of action to get the server back up as soon as possible.
We'll keep you updated as the situation develops. In the meantime, if one of you happen to get into the game before one of us can confirm it's back online again, please feel free to let us know in the comments.
I sincerely apologize for the server trouble, especially during such a highly anticipated event. We hope to get you all back into the game as soon as possible. Rest assured, the team is going to do the best we can to make sure everyone has a chance to participate in the event.

Thanks for keeping us posted, GoonyBard! I really appreciate this communication from the Team to the playerbase that (historically) has been so lacking. I can't imagine anyone on the Team is thrilled to be having issues like these at all, let alone at what should be the end of the work week, but I thank you for working on it, guys and gals!

Thank goodness that you're still working on fixing this issue, most of the playerbase would be overjoyed to see the game return back to normal for the event. Though it does make me gald that I got the Zipplewraith quickly to avoid trying to deal with the constant server timeouts.

I and my bff (both amazon tablets) have been unable to get in the game for almost a month due to the fact that the thawfest update has not started for amazon devices and we have to update to get in. Please can the... People (?) Fix this and consider extending thawfest for those who can not access it?
We can blame Amazon for this one. We've been asking them to approve our new build for weeks and they just won't. They won't answer us on why they can't let us release the update either.
As soon as someone pushes the button and lets us release the update, you'll have access to it. Until then, it's Amazon's decision.
Hey, just letting you all know that the servers seem to be back up now. I'm able to get into the game. Still no Thawfest quest board, but at least the game's playable.
Yep games working again but the clans still aren't fixed. :(

Yay! Can't wait to start earning medals again. Thanks to the SoD staff for all their hard work getting this fixed. I know it must've been frustrating and exhausting to have to work that late and on a Friday too. I appreciate all your hard work. :)
Why do you ignore or bypass the question about clan boards being fixed?
Probably because that's not his department. He's a frontend developer, and the issue there is on the server side of things, not with the program you use to access the game.
You're literally saying this on a thread about a "server outage" which was made by a front-end developer but go off, I guess. You don't have to be a back-end developer to COMMUNICATE to the players of a game that "yes, we hear you, here are the things we are doing to fix this issue, etc etc." As I've seen in the case of many different game communities, one doesn't need any experience of handling the server side of things to simply play the part of a messenger and relay information back and forth between the team and the players, as was being done here on this thread. All we're asking for is something like this thread, but for the clan board issue.
I really appreciate the effort Goony is putting into establishing a clearer communication between the SoD team and the playerbase, and this has given many of us hope that the clan board issue (which has not even been acknowledged ONCE on the forums or anywhere else) will properly be raised to their team and they will prioritize fixing it. This is not a new issue, it has been around for a while now, and the question is either being outright IGNORED, or people get lazy copy-paste one-liners in reply to their support tickets. This needs to CHANGE.
We're not asking for much, just the bare minimum. A lot of active players still stick around JUST for the clan system, and if even that can't be given to us they should start being mentally prepared to lose a lot of their oldest active paying veterans.

You're saying that as if the SoD devs don't have it coming by now; as if HALF A YEAR of wait for a major bug to finally get fixed in a game ain't a long enough wait that require patience. Just like the SoD devs, the SoD players are also people with limits.. and we're the ones who support and have willed to bet our money on this game. HelpfulWarrior's just one of the few that's bravely transparent enough to raise the question on what's really going on. You're saying that as if we're not out here just bothering to give an effort cuz we want this game to get better, some ppl literally still be holding on to whatever crumb of hope that's left atp.
Anyway, she's just doing what's told if we'd like to get the admins' notice on the forums, just cuz it's written in caps doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Anyway, fix the clan boards please! I repeat, it's been HALF a year. It's a massive part of SoD that makes it the ORIGINAL MMO HTTYD game (And SoD's special/unique compared to other HTTYD games that's existed cuz MMO) fans know and love, that's stopped functioning.
I have been very patient waiting and expressing how I feel.
When something needs to be fixed and admins keeps ignoring the issue. I will not kiss butt like others do.

Just remember that the game and its devs suck when it comes to understanding what the players truly want. In those 6 months, they have been dodging the clan board issue since it broke. I'd be surprised if it actually is fixable due to the little work being done to fix other known issues, such as the servers breaking due to this update. It's either you wait until they decide when it's time to update such a flawed system already or live with the fact that it may never be brought to heel. It's been ages since the clan leaderboard didn't dispkay all 100 top clans, and clans tend to fall incident to hacker attacks too. It would be exceptionally nice for them to fix the clan board, so either get your petition typing into overdrive or live with the issue from a busted game.

I wish I had better news, but the issue hasn't been resolved yet. We've passed it off to the server team to work on it over the next few hours. It's 1AM here for me, so I won't be around to provide any updates until tomorrow morning.
