New picture from Dragon The Nine Realms
Yoooo new picture from Dragon The Nine Realms
I think new dragon would be name Jun? It Boy/Girl name I google it buuut I pretty sure Tom's dragon prob male
Reading the episode describsion and Jun is more likely to be the human's name. The owner of the two headed dragon perhaps.
I'm really looking forward to it, mainly I want to see that Fury. It is a pity that in the Czech Republic there is a tradition that new series of films, etc. ... are shown the day after the official release and the translation takes two days. :-(
I saw those earlier and yeah uhh... I'll retract my previous opinion on the fury's character design. I've changed my mind. It looks bad.
The other dragons look nice though! They all have something going for them. Aside from that generic euro-looking dude, which looks really out-of-place.
I'd have to download the episode to form a proper opinion.
"Aside from that generic euro-looking dude, which looks really out-of-place."
Oh yes, the blonde, white european boy is out-of-place in what might very well be a Scandinavian setting. Please.
Im here with information!
The Fury's name is Thunder!
The girl in this pic is Alex and her dragon Featherhide
D'Angelo and Plowhorn!
Jun and her dragon Wu and Wei!
And on the last picture We can see a Fault Ripper
And that helmet on Tom. Is isn't Hiccup's helmet from the first film?
Ok Fault Ripper looks amazing! I would love to see the body of it!! Looks like all these dragons are hybrids. Not sure about the Fault Ripper. Which is why I wanna see the body xD
The dragon with the flames coming out of its nose is really awesome looking. The turquoise dragon looks like something from RR. The Hidden World is beautiful as it should be. You would think the NL, if that's what you wanna call it, would eat the character.
The other dragons look cool. The two headed dragon and another boulder class dragon.
I can't wait for the reviews. I have mix feelings on this show xD
The facility is called ICARIS? Is that a reference to Icarus? That foreshadowing?
In the 6th picture, doesn't it look like Heartstone Trollmarket from Trollhunters...?
No hate but surely they could have pick a better name than Thunder :/
I believe for human years mostly name would be very common
for Viking year they give better name then human give names
Question which name that you want give him?
Vikings are humans XD
I don't know. I don't know much about the character yet. I think simple one word someone-who-does't-know-about-dragon would name is alright. Not everyone has to be Stormfly or Skullcrusher or Clawthorn or whatever. It's just that Thunder is a very generic name that can be find everywhere and it's Dreamwork who pick it to be the face of their new protagnist. Not to mention that Thunder is the sort of name that you don't have to know everything about the character just know that it's a night fury related species to name it like that. It's like naming a Skrill Thunder.
I think compare to the one word protagonist-like dragon name within the franchise from before, Patch and Dart are much more favourable for me. There's Toothless and Hiccup, Patch and Scrible then there's Thunder and Tom
Mmmmmmmm. . . . I'm still reaaalllly skeptical about how this series is gonna be... I'm honestly not feeling most of these designs in the sense of that they don't feel... cohesive?? Like these all kinda look like they could be dragons from different shows.
The Featherhide (teal dragon) definitely looks like a rescue riders design, (which isn't inherently bad necessarily but putting it next to the others feels really off)
D'angelo's dragon (the gronckleish one) has really human eyes for some reason?? Like, compared to the other dragon's eyes it comes off as really uncanny in my opinion, I can't remember any other dragon from the franchise having such human-looking eyes which again makes it feel like it doesn't quite fit with everything else. Its design also looks like it's kiiinda on the simple side but since there isn't much to go off of with that one picture I'll refrain my judgement on it for now- but my guess is it's going to have a very gronckleish body type. If it doesn't then that will be a very pleasant surprise but..... I'm kinda doubting that it won't. ..Ironically though I still think it's my favorite out of the main cast. I like the idea of crystals sticking out of it I just.. wish the design was a little more cohesive with that theming and wasn't just a big crystal chunk coming out of its otherwise crystal-less head.
The oriental-themed dragon is pretty clever, I do like them putting a httyd spin on one of the more recognizable styles of dragons (sorta like a basis for those kinds of illustrations of dragons in that universe) but.... again it comes off as not exactly fitting in with the rest of the cast/httyd style dragons to me? They look like they'd be their own character in their own kind of movie. The really illustration-y looking pattern on their wings in particular kinda confuses me? Without context it looks like someone drew on them, which I think would be fine- but if that's a natural marking that's...... kinda.... weird? Considering most httyd dragons have had more naturalistic patternings to them from everything that comes to my mind? It's also a little disappointing that they just have the Zippleback bodytype and nothing more interesting.
(their framing in that one shot also REALLY reminds me of the two dragons in Zuko's nightmare from Avatar the Last Airbender and I CAN'T UNSEE IT I'M SORRY :'D they even have the ear frills..)
I think everyone agrees that Fault Ripper looks really out of place which..... honestly... that's disappointing because Fault Ripper looks like it has an actually slightly more intricate design, something a lot of these new dragons seemingly... don't have. While there's nothing wrong with moving the art direction towards a more simplified one it just.... is really jarring along with everything else different about this new series. I mean, comparing these new desigins to past ones from Riders of Berk/Defenders of Berk/Even race to the edge (although I do have some qualms with some of race to the edge's designs too. But that's a different conversation.) they come up... I don't want to say lazy. But they're definitely far less intricate. Easy to model might be another word for it.
(Actually now that i'm studying fault ripper more it almost looks like an edgy remodel of the dragon from shrek- from what i can tell of its body shape. Which........ is kinda hilarious. I hope the rest of it is as cool as its head.)
I don't have much to say about the fury because honestly I originally thought it was dart until I saw its eyes were yellow and that they weren't going to call it Dart so..... take that as however you see fit.
I really want the show to be good but there's a good chance I'm not going to be able to get behind it for the art direction alone. It's lost the quirky designs I liked from earlier httyd entries which... feels strange to me? You'd think this show, being made now instead of 9, nearly 10 years ago (give or take when taking into account how long it takes to make shows like these.) and with an assumedly larger budget(?) would be able to have even better dragon designs? None of these necessarily strike me like the Flightmare or the Fireworm Queen did, or the Deathsong. Not to mention it looks like we're getting another show that doesn't include designs from the Rise of Berk game (which I mean... was looking very VERY unlikely anyways but it's still disappointing. The Sword Stealer is SO COOL! And while this is a more unpopular opinion, I think Thunderpedes are really cool too. Especially with their whole sign-language/society lore. I really like these powerhouses that Also like bellyrubs and literally keep rock gardens in their lairs and sleep on beds made out of foamy-stuff.)
Again with all these doubts aired I do hope it's a good show. I'm just....... a little on the fence about it.
(Why do i get the overwhelming urge to re-design all of these dragons..)
ANOTHER FAN? OMG we are too rare around here *prepares to fangirl with you*
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHAHAH!! I love Atla <3 I can't imagine there aren't more people on these forums that like it too- we must all be hiding in the woodworks... Lying in wait......... for the right moment to.....
One positive: it looks like they've decided to get rid of Thunder's really convex chest which had looked terrible. But the wings still cover such a small surface area of the body it's a miracle it can fly. I can definitely see influences of the original dragons in some of the models, but some of them seem a little too simple compared to the absolutely stunning designs from the films and shows. This series would've been a great opportunity to introduce some cool hybridised/ evolved or completely new dragons and new character dynamics, but it looks like they're staying with the old and just simplifying it. Oh well.
I'll still watch it anyway.
EDIT: I just saw that in the post with the pictures (not the forums the actual one) it mentions 'Hidden World'S' that's plural, and a super exciting concept! That's what 'the nine realms' could be- the nine Hidden Worlds. I'd assume the one Toothless went to to become king was the main one, but there are eight others, probably smaller, maybe! The places the plot could go with this is amazing- maybe the nine hidden worlds are in conflict- maybe they evolved differently- maybe they're joined together, maybe not. That just made me more excited though!
I still have a lot of questions about Nine Realms (mainly is that a Night Light?? How did the Night Fury gene survive for so long if thats the case???) But I'm really liking the human characters, and their dragons, I do think they are more interesting that Tom and Thunder tho lol. Also, is it just me that's kinda getting a Jurassic Park Camp Creataceous vibe from the new gang?
Another thing is that its very obviously going for how the original gang played out with some differences
Wu and Wei being the two-headed dragon in place for Barf and Belch
Plowhorn in place of Meatlug (sidenote, he and D'Angelo might be my favorites so far)
Featherhide in place of Stormfly
and Obviously Thunder in place of Toothless
now.. are we going to have a dragon in the style of Hookfang?
I also like how, even tho the new dragons are kinda like the old ones, but still the Riders seem to be very different from the old gang
I'm not gonna lie I'm kinda excited about this, after all it's not like the old HTTYD is just going to cease to exist because this is a thing, and we were very likely not going to get more HTTYD stuff anyways so
Well, I mean, it could have looked so much worse. While the new Fury is... off. I do like the look of this new gang and the other dragons besides the Fury actually look really cool.
Simplized designs aside. I will still watch this.
They could have come up with something way better than Thunder though.
Not gonna lie, Thunder's design is awful. For starters it makes NO SENSE that it would be this black, nearly identical markings to Dart. There are no other NFs anywhere in the world (the directors have confirmed that Toothless is the last one). Confirmed multiple LFs so after 1.3k YEARS furies would be either all white or white and a different color, there are only three NLs so how did this happen? They'd have found LFs to breed with. And why did they take away the tail fins? No other dragon had that and for some reason it was one of my favorite parts of the fury design. Where did yellow eyes come from?
I get it, evolution and all, but come on. Breeding plays a big part and it takes millions of years for evolution to occur. No way the design could've changed this drastically. Also, the two-headed dragons reminds me of the twins from Dragon Tales. :/ I cannot get over that one. It looks so unnatural.
The designs of the original HTTYD dragons were glorious. Not much change would've occurred. My critique ends with ALL OF THESE DRAGONS except the fury not fitting the original designs and if this is a continuation of HTTYD, I expect the designs to remain more consistent. I am very disappointed but I will give the show a chance. I just feel like I won't be able to get behind this thing. I withhold judgment from the show's plot...for now. But the designs of these dragons will kill me while watching it. I mean, I would be okay if Thunder (who we know will be the main character's dragon like Toothless to Hiccup) had a SMALL patch of black, a remnant of his NF heritage, but he's mostly black and has yellow eyes. I just, I absolutely can't get over that one.
Okay why are people saying the eyes is yellow....it's blue, right? Am I missing something?
I swear the eyes were purple 5 seconds ago .----.
I think the lighting on the top-right image just made people assume it was yellow XD
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YEAH that is EXACTLY it
So like...... me thinking Thunder was Dart feels even more justified now o_o,
Hmm that prob true
