Journey to Berk Part 4
Prequel to Alpha and Shadow

The doors of the palace burst open, and a teenager with silver hair walked in. Her cloak bellowed in the wind and a irregular Speed Stinger was not far behind her. Her silver eyes gleamed, and a necklace with a jewel hung from her neck. On her left sleeve was a emblem of a skull surrounded my dark wings. She fell to her knees.
"Permission to speak, my queen."
She looked up, seeing a gigantic coal black dragon, her coils and scales gleaming in the tiny balls of light. Her night fury like figure turned, and faced the girl.
Nemesis, you may speak. But be quick. The boy is still out there, and if he is, we are not safe.
Nemesis looked up, her eyes shining evilly. "Then this is good news. We found him. We found Hyrith. Our little friend tracked him down. With a band of people, one valkyrie, one blue streaked lady, and one big fighter... with some problems."
The black dragon smiled.
So it is true, then. He's found help. Should we send him back?
"It's too dangerous. He's too unstable. Queen, he's the stuff of legends. What if he turns away and kills our men instead? “A man stepped out of the shadows. He had a gleaming dragon mask, and dark armor plating. On his back was a red scythe. "Let me deal with him. I can finish him. You know I can."
Lexri, when did I give you permission to speak? Ah, forget it. Send him out. He wants a taste of battle, it seems. Get the armada ready. We'll finish what we started. Well, hopefully he will. Or we can dispose of him.
Nemesis nodded. "Yes my queen. On my way. Lastdance, let's go." The speed stinger and the girl raced out in a blur. The queen smiled.
Hyrith, I have you. You have no where to run...

I raised my hands. "Woah bro, chill the bow!" The boy jumped of, but his bow was still drawn. "Huh. As if. You still need to answer my question. Friend or foe?"
Thumin raised his finger in the air. "Thumin friend?" The boy was still as tensed up as before. "That's one answer. I still need the rest of you to answer." He walked up, and pointed the arrow tip at my forehead. "Though I can kill you all off. Then you won't have to answer the question." He pulled the bowstring further back, then Mari stepped out, hands up. "Look, ok. Thumin's with us. We're all friends. We just want to continue on our way." He faltered, then loosened the grip.
"Fine. I could believe you, but you still look suspicious. Especially the Valkyrie. They're only here for something really good, or really bad. She's dangerous. She might slice me in two if she had the chance."
Aurora raised her hands. "Uh, the first part, maybe. The second part isn't true. I, uh, don't know how to fight. My mom tried to teach me, but... yeah. I don't know how to fight."
"A valkyrie who can't fight? Interesting." He looked back, and stretched out his hand. A tiny dragon, a white and blue fireworm, flew into his hand. "Sorry, but I still can't believe you. Last person who went through here almost stole Crinkle here." The fireworm yawned, and rolled around in his hand. "Crackle's fine, but Crinkle doesn't do kindly to visitors. Took one of her legs, you see." Another orange fireworm flew to the ground, and the white fireworm on his hand flew down and played with the other one. "Crinkle is special. Her flame isn't that strong as the others, but she can switch off her flame at will. Crackle is a normal fireworm. Both separated at birth."
I rolled my eyes. "Ok, enough with your fireworm life. What do you want in order to prove that we're friendly? I've got some bread, a flask of water, and some other stuff." The kid shook his head. "I'll require something else. I'm planning to go somewhere soon, but there's a problem."
Mari look back and shrugged. "Well, what is it then?" I raised a finger. "Wait, why can't we not do the challenge? Why don't you just send us on our way?"
"Well... because of three reasons. First thing is to make sure you're friendly. Secondly, I can't do this alone. Finally, I'll send you on your way afterwards." I muttered under my breath. "Fair enough."
"Fine. The only thing we need to do is to stop dragons from ransacking my camp. They do it every single say. 1 in the morning, 1 at night. They keep on stealing all the food, it's annoying. Like, really annoying. Notice how I said "we". It means I'm also helping you people. Maybe we could move them out, or try to stop them from attacking."
Thumin smiled. "Dragons! Dragons! Dragons! Thumin want to help!" He clapped his hands, and danced in a circle. The fireworms flew around his head, and Crinkle sat on his shoulder. I crossed my arms, and smiled. Catching dragons eh? I've once moved a nadder to another region of the Golden Isles since it was doing too much damage. This might be easier than I thought.
Aurora smiled, and stroked her chicken. "So, since we're helping you fix something of yours, what's your name?" The archer smiled. "Clinton. The name's Clinton. Now, lets get on to business, shall we?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I readied the trap. Aurora was going to fly up and distract the dragons, Thumin had pushed rocks into a circle to contain it, Mari was going to release the net to make sure it's trapped, Clinton was going to shoot it's wing, and me? I'm jus there to make sure the dragons are here, signal the team, and to provide further help.
Clinton looked at me and nodded. "Hyrith, time for you to go up. They should be here now." I covered myself in leaves, and wall jumped off the trunks for the trees. I swung up to a branch and waited.
Just when I was going to lose hope, I saw a blur fly past through the air. Suddenly, my heart skipped a beat. The shape of the wings, the body figure, the head and the tail. I looked down and shouted. "Clinton, when you said dragon, I thought it was a nadder or gronkle, not a NIGHT FURY!"
Clinton shrugged. "I didn't want to freak you guys out." Aurora rolled her eyes. "Great. a descendent of the son of lightning and death itself. What could go wrong?" She jumped, beat her wings, and flew up into the sky. I stared at the dragon, and then I realized something. How did I not realize this before? It's white! I sighed. Ok then. One that comes in the day, one that comes in the night. This is gonna totally be easy.
Aurora flew after the dragon. The night fury then turned, and shot several bolts. She twisted and turned in midair, then it raced forward, and rammed her in the chest.
She fell from the air, and landed in the trees. "Thumin! Go help Aurora!" Thumin nodded, and ran off. "Chicken girl, I'm coming!" He dashed off into the forest, then I saw Clinton notch his bow.
The night fury had stopped for a while to regain balance, and Clinton growled. "I got you now." He let go, and the arrow pierced through its wing. It roared, but I shot a beam of ice, and it fell down to the ground. "Mari, now!" Just when it was going to get back up, she let go of the net, and it fell on the night fury. Good thing we used dragon proof netting. Clinton found a net out here in a trap, and took it off. And now we know it works. Well, works for now at least.
"So... what do we do now? Move it to a new place?" Mari looked down at it as it thrashed inside the netting. Clinton nodded. "Probably so, but we need to take out the arrow. The ice will melt on it's own."
I shrugged. "Fair enough. We do it same for the other one?" Clinton shrugged. "Maybe. If it doesn't call out to it's other night fury friend."
"Wait OTHER night fury friend? TWO night furies?!" I exclaimed as I walked over to the white night fury. As I stepped closer, I could see it had one blue eye, and one red eye. Huh. That's actually pretty cool! It growled and got even madder, and Clinton walked past me and knelt down next to the dragon. It shuffled, and it's mouth stared humming blue. As soon as he touched its wing, it roared and almost shot off his arm.
He stepped back. "Woah! Chill!" The night fury glared into his eyes, then I set my hand on Clinton's shoulder.
"Bro, chill. I got this." Clinton stepped back, and I knelt next to the dragon. I could still tell it had shots left. I can see nothing that can go wrong with this. Totally nothing! I glowed green.
"You ok? Hopefully the wound didn't hurt that much. We didn't want to hurt you."
Almost instantly, I got a response. Sadly, it wasn't not that of a good one. I instantly could tell this was a female dragon, from the tone of voice. Yeah. Sure. Shoot one of my wings, and then say you don't want to hurt me. How 'bout I shoot your face off, then I say it ain't such a problem. It growled, and beat it's wings.
"Sorry about the wing. I was just going to pull the arrow off. You know the arrow has a small tip right? It'll heal quickly. Like a tiny tear."
And how was I supposed to know that? Just flying around, then blam. Got hit. Shock = Falling. Logic enters here.
"Well, you could've had tried to fly to see if it would make a difference. Clinton here knows you well enough though."
Could you just pull out the arrow for goodness sake?
I shrugged. "Fine then." I knelt closer, and stretched out my hand. I pulled, and it easily slipped out. The white night fury flapped it's wings.
Huh. Fine. Now can I go now?
"Uh... no. We didn't just shoot you for fun, you know. Could you just explain why you keep on ransacking Clinton's camp and steal all of the food?"
She grumbled. My brother will know. He will kill you all, you know?
"Could you just answer the question? We just need answers. You know we're going to let you out after you tell us why?"
Fine. It's a long-
Suddenly, a scream filled the air. Another night fury, this time a normal colored one, dove down from the sky and shot bolts at me. The pitch-black dragon roared, and landed defensively in front of the white one. I turned to Clinton. Mari, who climbed down the tree a few seconds ago, walked up behind us.
"That's her brother, I presume?"
The night fury roared, and arched it's back.
Hey bro! Glad you could join the party! It smashed the rocks around his sister, and she tried to fly. Tried. She was still trapped because of the ice.
The other night fury didn't respond. Probably cause it was focused on killing us. Its mouth glowed blue.
"Scatter!" We just ran. Getting a night fury mad is never a good idea. It blasted and shot bolts of plasma out of it's mouth. Clinton dashed behind it, but then the dragon swung his tail and he went soaring into a tree. He growled. "Oh no you didn't." He drew his bow. The tip was wood, and he shouted into the air. "Crinkle! Ignite!" Silence. The fireworm didn't respond. He grumbled. "So much for that idea."
I just looked at him. "Why don't we just wait for a few seconds? He'll come." Then a ball of plasma flew over my head. "Or maybe not. RUN!"
I ducked for cover as the angry night fury soared over my head and crashed into the tree behind me. He roared furiously, and started to chase after Mari. Just as it almost shot her, she jumped to the side as it leaped in the place where she last was. His sister just stood there, and was just emotionless. Probably didn't care that we were going to die.
Suddenly, out of the clearing, Thumin and Aurora stepped out. Aurora looked at me. "Wha- How- Why-"
I just glared into her eyes. "A little help?"
She ran up to me, and did a barrel roll as a bolt of plasma soared over her head. She then jumped, and drew her katars. She blocked 2 shots, then just continued to run at Clinton and me. Just how many shots does this dragon have? She then reached us, and formed a protective stance, just the three of us. Mari was nowhere to be seen. The agitated night fury turned, and when it was about to land, Mari leapt out of the woods, and landed on it's back. She rode it for a few seconds, the night fury thrashing and roaring. Then, it flew up into the air, and Mari fell down. It's mouth started to glow blue, when a rock smashed it in the face.
Thumin, our big friend, stood with confidence in the field. "No one hurt friends. Friend hurters are BAD!" The night fury, now extremely mad, started to dive down. At the same time, Thumin started to charge. Just as they were about to make contact, Thumin raised his fist, and punched it in the face.
It flew into a tree. I stood in awe. I knew Thumin was strong, but not THAT strong. He then walked in front of Mari and the rest of us. "Me. Protect. Friends!" The night fury roared, and shot bolt after bolt. Thumin grabbed Mari, and using his body as a shield, wrapped her in and rolled, the blasts at his wake. He then pushed Mari towards us, and ran toward the dragon.
Probably the most epic fight I've ever seen. Thumin pounded and smashed, but the night fury was quick and agile. Its only problem was it somehow couldn't get a good shot. Did it fail at shooting class? Thumin dodged, turned, rolled, and continued to it the dragon. Clinton then looked at me. "Oh my goodness he's gonna kill the dragon. We need to stop him."
I looked at him. "Wait. What?!"
But after the words stopped, he was sprinting to the field. "Thumin! Stop! You'll kill him!" Thumin looked at Clinton. "Friend not hurt? Dragon hurt friend. Dragon bad!"
The night fury started bounding toward them. "We don't want to kill it. We just want to move it."
Thumin smiled. "So friend not hurt! Thumin happy!"
"GUYS! LOOK OUT!" I shouted. The dragon was coming right up, then just as it shot, they heard me and dove to the right. Just as I thought they were going to make it, the dragon slammed Clinton in the chest with his tail, and he flew off. He fell on the floor, bruised. Thumin was just getting up, but the dragon was already on top of Clinton. It landed on top of him, and opened his mouth, plasma glowing in his throat. One shot, and it's finished.
Suddenly, a tiny white thing flew into the night fury’s mouth. The nightfury stopped it's plasma, and looked down on it's tongue. On the tip was a tiny white dragon. A fireworm. It chirped, and looked up. It looked down at Clinton, then glared into the night fury’s eyes. Clinton smiled. "Yo, Crinkle." Suddenly, it set itself on fire on the night fury’s tongue.
The night fury did what we would later call the I-ate-a-ghost-pepper dance. It started dashing, bounding, roaring, scratching it's tongue, then bounded into the forest. Crinkle and Crackle flew up, and landed in front of Clinton. He smiled. "That's my fireworms." They chirped, then a really really really angry night fury, drenched in water, walked out of the woods. It growled and was about to attack when a voice spoke.
Neo, that's enough. The white night fury spoke to her brother.
They were trying to hurt you! He roared back, and she shook her head.
No. I wasn't even touched by a finger of their hand. I'm fine. She flapped her wing, the ice melted. She soared up, and landed next to her brother, brushing up to his side.
Oh. Then why didn't you tell me earlier?! He bellowed back, and she rolled her eyes.
Probs because you were too busy trying to kill them before asking me if I'm fine!
The night fury growled in grudging agreement.
Then, Aurora patted me on the shoulder. "Well, what did they say? You're the only one who can know what they're saying." Oh yeah. Forgot that. I turned back to my friends. "Basically, they are siblings. The white one is the sister; the black one's the brother. The white one was trying to tell her brother not to attack us."
Clinton crossed his arms. "You speak dragon?"
"Naw, I can just tell what they're saying by their eyes. They can understand me though. Don't worry, it's just the two of them."
Not quite. The white dragon's voice echoed in my head, and I turned.
There was a reason why we raided the archer's camp. The brother looked at Clinton. He's good at getting food. We're not. We can only get enough food to support the both of us.
"Well, that's great! Both of you are well fed! Why raid when you two are full?"
Cause our brother is not. We have a third.
I really liked the fight. And the fireworm saving Clinton :)
BTW, you probably saw, but Adventures of Elsa Jade ch. 11 is out :)
I can see that my overkill, freaky, crazy, older sis is in this one. Along with her equally overkill, freaky, crazy Speed Stinger
Btw, "Lexri, when did I give you permission to speak? Ah, forget it!" LOL
BTW I sent in a private message you never answered
It's a nice story you got there ;)
My hunger for reading made me finish all 4 chapters
