This might help you if you have trouble overspending gems
I know a lot of people are not hoarders by any stretch of the word. It's easy to be tempted into spending gems, especially if you want a particular item and you finally got enough gems for it. One of the reasons it's so tempting, and one of the reasons you simply can't resist, spending gems is because the item you want is right there in front of you, waiting to be bought. The devs brought back gem-rewarding stable quests. If you happen to come across a stable chest and win a gem box from it, don't even check your backpack. This saves your gems for later, when a big ticket prize comes out, and because it isn't in your face, it's less tempting to open. Unless of course, you look in your bag.
This won't work for everyone but it may reduce the temptation to spend. And hopefully for others, it may eliminate the temptation to spend. You'll end up saving a ton of gems as long as you don't open those boxes, or look in you bag (because then you'll see it in your inventory).
I hope that this also helps with money you earn outside of the game. If I don't spend any of it for a week, I might hopefully will have plenty to spend on books and dvds/ Blu rays and gift cards for Google Play or iTunes!
Telling someone (like me xD ) to not open gems isn't enough to make me not open up chests. Though it's a good advice nonetheless! Kudos to people where this will work for them!
And I mainly get my gems from gold battle event chests, so I'm always gonna open those (especially that I get dragon eggs from them sometimes).
So what I could say as an advice to make people hoard is: Always think that there's gonna be a big event soon, that would require a huge amount of gems. Like, thousands of gems.
It could be a one-of-a-kind limited dragon, or a special flight suit, or they're gonna release a new expansion.
Though sadly I probs will spend all my gems on a new dragon egg
That endorphine boost when you spend and get something new is kinda addicting ( ;3;)
I recently just learned my lesson with this. If there is like a farm sale or something that isn't that big (like that bunny sale or the announcement of the W.D. mace) DON'T buy it. Usually an even bigger (and more expensive) oprotunity will be avaliable right after.
I get it. I'm a big time hoarder but I've been wanting a Speed Stinger and Fireworm Queen egg for a LONG time! Takes a lot of self discipline and willpower to not press that "buy" button!!! BUT I WANT THEM SO BAD! And of course, my little sister getting a Speed Stinger egg FROM A COIN-OPENING CHEST didn't help any. I know it came from a coin chest because I was right there. After that she got a stable from another coin chest... WHERE ARE MY EGGS DANGIT?!?!?!
