lets talk: Israel
I don't know if any of you guys know this(probably because any type of media outside of the actual country refuses to talk about it) but things are not going well in Israel, we so far had approximately 7 sta.bbing attempts in two days( some were sadly successful) and a city(not going to say the name) is currently under lockdown. People are fearing to go outside right now, even I am (only a bit) scared :I
Luckily, I have a hammer in my room(for self defense), a dog, and both of my parents have gu.ns
So, what are your thoughts on what's happening in Israel(now that you know)?
(Sorry about the grammar, when I'm nervous my writing skills become even more poor then usual)
Just 7? Nah. Let's talk about the country that I am in...
Or let's not.
There's no reason to turn this into a 'my situation is worse than yours so everyone look at me!' kind of thread. If you want to complain about where you live then you can create your own thread to discuss it, rather than derailing someone else's. It's rude and unnecessary.
Dark Fire, that's really sucky to have to deal with. All that stuff can be majorly scary, especially when it's so close to home.
You're probably correct in assuming most people don't know the extent of what's happening in Israel. Here in the US the news is very much centered around our own country and any news coverage elsewhere in the world is very carefully cherry picked depending on what kind of stories and views different news stations want its viewers to have about that place. The Middle East in particular is very much a victim of the US news and our reporters are often very unkind about the places there, if not selling outright lies to its audience. Something like attempted sta.bbings in Israel would not make our news as it's not a big enough story.
I tend to depend on Tumblr to get news, though I admit I don't go out of my way to seek it out. If it crosses my dashboard I take a look and reblog it to learn and spread awareness.
I don't feel like I'm well enough informed to form any kind of solid opinion on Israel or what's happening there as a whole, but the couple of things you've mentioned are really unfortunate and I'm sorry to hear you're having to deal with them.
The best things I can suggest for your particular situation is to stay home if you don't need to go out unnecessarily. If you do need to leave the house, do so in a group. Something like an attempted sta.bbing is going to be less likely if there are more than one person traveling together.
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with a city-wide lockdown so I can't make any suggestions for you.
Stay safe!
I have the same issue about the what is my opinion thing. I can't really make a good opinion if I can't get some unbiased information on the subject and on this topic that is rather h.ard to come by for me. The news only likes to tell information that they think will shift your opinion a surtain way. I don't really trust U.S. news for much because of it. Especially since they seem to often be a little raciest against the countrys and people of that area. They pretty much just boil it down to terrorism and try to make it look like there's going to be another 9/11 when actually we should be worried about it because other people are d.ieing instead of trying to make it about us. I'm not sure the U.S. should try to intervene with force like some in our government seem to want to though because we obviously don't know enough about what is going on over there to do anything more than make things worse. Maybe the U.S. could send food to civilians on both sides to help stop people from starving if it really wants to help but I think that's about as much as the U.S. should be doing because this issue might be too complicated to just blast away. And no, before anyone says anything, I don't hate the U.S. I'm just willing to admit that my country has royally screwed up several times when trying to get in the affairs of other countrys.
There is an underlying completiy that has gone on for a while now. This is just one peace of a much bigger issue.
The US is chock full or racism and is very, very guilty of labeling anyone of Middle Eastern descent as a terrorist on sight. Which is ironic since the majority of things like mass murders are perpetrated by white males.
In any case, it's definitely going to be hard to find an unbiased piece of news in the US unless you find the right channels, usually online. That's why I prefer places like Tumblr, where you can find people actually living in these areas and hear their sides of the stories and use them as sort of a springboard from which you can start researching if you want to.
The US seems to be very big on an 'us vs. them' mentality on a whole lot of things.
By labeling all Muslims as terrorists it alienates and dehumanizes their population as a 'them' and a definite enemy to our 'us'. People are less interested in judging on a case by case basis and more concerned with finding some kind of unquestionable bad guy. That way we don't have to think about whether or not our own actions are morally sound. And in order to preserve that illusion the media will jump through all kinds of hoops to twist stories in just the right way.
It's the same way on a whole lot of issues. People tend to be very black and white and during any kind of argument or debate if you're not on their side then you're wrong and you're the bad guy. It's a very real problem in my opinion and it needs to change, especially when it starts to effect things on such a large scale.
^
Also, a lot of the terrorist attacks are caused by radical Muslims(not all of the Arabs are bad)
But for some reason, the American media refuses to say that.
Not all muslims are arab in fact the 2nd largest religon is islam and the fastest growing religon is islam so im sure not all muslims are arab. And yes not all Muslims are mean In fact I have many Muslim friends and they are really nice. I dont beleive its right to hate on an entire race due to certain individuals actions. Not many muslims are bad if you compare that minority to the total population of them.
I hate radicalism. Of any kind. You can mess up even the most innocent cause with radicalism. At best it's annoying and at worst..... well...... I don't think I really need to elaborate much on that here. Not to mention that it can turn people against the innocent members of a religion/ethnicity or opinion really quickly as they get lumped in with the radical group. One time when we were little near the start of the anti Muslim propaganda in the U.S. my sister and I were the only kids willing to go to this other kid's birthday party because he had a Muslim/Arab associated name. It's just terrible.
well done hypergoof, Im sure many may have frowned upon you to be willing go to their there birthday part. But that was the right thing to do.
You shouldnt judge by ethnicity, rather its best to judge by actions of the individuals
Thank you. It's really my mom who is amazing though. My sister and I were too young to make such a great decision ourselves. We had no idea why no one else wanted to go to the kid's party and if anyone had tried to explain it back then we wouldn't have understood. (We were in preschool or first grade or something) Actually, a good portion my family is kind of awesome in general when it comes to our opinions and interactions with other groups of people. Most likely because we are mutts and proud of it. (I have a fairly diverse and very large family)
Absolutely,
Or let's say this was a joke? You guys are taking this hard. I mean you guys need to take a chill pill.
Maybe you should just step out of the thread and find somewhere else to reply.
Jokes like this are not appropriate in this kind of thread. Neither is backpedalling and trying to place the blame on someone else and acting like they're the one reacting poorly.
If I am fully honest with you I do not know what to think of the conflict. It's h.ard to know which side even started it since this problem has been brewing since before the actual fighting happened. I do know it's bad and lots of innocent people on both sides are d.ieing all the time. It needs to stop somehow but how to stop it I don't think many people know. It is a somewhat religion and bias based war type thing and those are some of the most difficult conflicts to solve. All I can say for sure is that I hope you and your family stay safe and I hope this whole problem eventually finds a solution that both sides can agree on cause if both sides don't agree on it or at least are partly ok with it this whole thing will just start up again and I don't think anyone wants that.
What do you mean 7 stabbing attempts?
In the whole country? That doesn't sound so bad.
I really want the USA to do some big support for you guys, our president does not care. Maybe a couple of A 10s? I do agree us two countries need to stick together, we sort of stand for the same thing correct?
I direct you to my rant somewhere up above. I really think the U.S. would just make things worse. This isn't a problem that has one clear bad guy and one clear good guy. It can not simply be blown away with our big big guns.
Maybe not in the form of guns, we have other things then big weapons. (F-35 is a bad plane, I do not recomend it.) Anyway, I do think we have a lot of groups here sending support in one way or another. I just simply think we need to do it as a nation, non violent ways is possible. I'm just saying we can help with defense and such, and food etc. I'm not really up to speed in the situation.
As an engineering student the F-35 makes me want to vomit. You know something is bad when the chinese knockoff of it better (J-31 can outfight the F-35), and you know it's really bad if a freshman can make a lemon fly better than your plane.
Ok. THAT was funny. You could make a lemon fly better? LOL!
Did you hear it's going to compete against the A 10? To see what plane performs better for close ground support?
Yes I did hear that. Even in canada under the conservatives the f-35 was to take a close air support role because it can't meet the long range all weather interceptor role that canada needs. the thing can't even land on an icy runway (F-35B just melts the runway because permafrost). The A-10 will be much better for close air support since stealth is ruined when you have infantry and tanks and the F-35 can be shot down with a handgun (if you were really accurate).
As a canadian I see this as America's (and harper's) foreign policy
In all honesty..
That's basically the truth.
I would still take Obama over Harper, and for good reason.
Also Trump's idea for a foreign policy is
"If we don't know what we're doing the enemy sure as **** won't know either!"
The US hasn't known what its been doing since Obama was re-elected.
But that is true.
Trump would be the absolute worst thing for a US president. Hes more of a sideshow than anything else.
Bernie Sanders for the win, yo.
Trump wants to kick out all people who came too the country illegally along with any kids those people had. (Manny of which probably don't even speak the language of their parent's homeland) I would rather have pretty much anyone other than Trump for president.
Edit; Also it's kind of an amendment over here that if you are born here then you are a U.S. citizen. I don't want any president who will ignore freaking amendments!
Ouch :( For a country so small that's just... :'(
Oh..I see drama brewing...everyone walk away...lets not add to our current drama tension...
-_-
Which country?
