This has been five books in the making.  I did not start setting up this journey until Thoughts of Guilt, though Annabeth was introduced in The Mysterious Frozen Fire.

But we are finally here.  The wedding of Jarl Mollerson and Annabeth Everdeen.

This story won't be too long, but it won't be short either.  With my kind of writing, a short story may end up being like ten chapters, but I was only going to cover the day before, the day of, and the day after the wedding.  While writing from Jarl's PoV, it couple probably just take a few chapters, I thought I would experiment a little further and do what I did in the last book with writing the story from another character's perspective.

I will start with Jarl's PoV and the ceremony will be done from his PoV as well.  While I will do some more from Annabeth's PoV, I will interject here and there from other characters' Point of views.

I hope you guys enjoy this short story!

A Jarl Mollerson Mystery Series Short Story

The Wedding

Jarl's Point of View:

‘Twas the night before Snoggletog and all through the house… Well, for one thing it is not night for the sun is only starting to set, no one is in the house, at least my house.  Try on top of Berk, in the mountains.

Annabeth yells back, “This is so totally over.”

“Oh yeah?” I call to her.  “I still have time.”

“Your time is running out,” she calls back… Then pile of snow hits my face.

“It was her idea,” Annabeth states.  “But I approve.”

“We ain’t gonna take that from them, are we Fredrick?” I ask my dragon.

He snorts as he leans closer to the ground, for a Thunderdrum at least.

Oh, Annabeth and I are racing down the side of a mountain Dragon Sledding.

I lay down on top of my dragon to create the least amount of wind resistance.  Annabeth had toted that because Anora is made of metal type scales, she can glide down the snow faster.  That may be true, but Anora’s turning ability is hampered because she is slick down the side of an icy, snow covered mountain.  Where Fredrick lacks the speed, he makes up for in maneuverability.  Which is rather ironic because these abilities are somewhat reversed when flying.

Coming up behind Annabeth and Anora, I exclaim, “What better way to spend the last day of being single than with the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with?  And also, what better way to spend the last day of being single than by swooping down the side of a mountain, at break neck speeds, as if your life was going to end tomorrow.”

         Annabeth’s head jerked around.

“Wait,” I tell myself out loud.  “That did not sound right.”

Annabeth chuckled, “You better believe that did not sound right.”

“Regardless of how it sounded-,” I begin.

Annabeth and Anora collide into a soft snow bank, I conclude, “Consider yourself distracted.”

         I slide in the lead.

Even several dragon lengths in front, I could hear the sound of her grunting all the way down here.

Coming up to a cliff face, Fredrick and I launch off the edge.  Just for the fun of it, I let go of Fredrick.  For a moment, I am flying myself.  Well, falling technically, but it felt like I was actually flying.  But I grab back on to Fredrick…

“Oof,” I winch as my stomach slams on the back of Fredrick.  “I didn’t think that one through.”

Just then, Fredrick darts to the right.  The sound of several projectiles hitting the snow just to the left of us ring out.  They are spines from Anora’s tail.

Now with Annabeth right behind me, she comments, “Okay, now that was my idea.”

“Whatever you do,” I tell her.  “Just don’t start an avalanche.”

“Don’t worry,” Annabeth reassures.  “I would beat you before that would ever happen.”

“In your dreams it would,” I retort back.

“I’ve beat you in other things before,” Annabeth points out.  “But this is one of the things we have done before that I have still yet to beat you in.

By the way, in all this time this is happening, we are dodging trees left and right.

I also point out, “Why couldn’t we take the path with less resistance, the path with less trees?”

“Oh, stop barking out complaints,” Annabeth quips.  “See what I did there?”

“I do,” I tell her.  “You wood go there.”

“Ah, very good, very good,” Annabeth goes on.  “I am trying to branch out in the pun department, but you are still the pun master.”

A moment of silence came as I hypothetically facepalmed.

Annabeth and Anora slide up on our left next to me and Fredrick, she calmly says, “It’s your serve.”

“I know,” I say.  “Trying to beat me in puns is like going against the grain.”

Annabeth smirks, “Yeah, and I am going to wrap a ring around you tomorrow.”

Now that did deserve a facepalm, “While I impressed at the same time…”

Annabeth interjects, “Did not sound right?  Yeah, but puns never do.”

“Hey,” I ask her.  “Do you want to try out my idea when we come to the next cliff?”

“Sure, why not,” she answers.  “It isn’t like the most important day of our lives is tomorrow.  Are you saying I beat you in Dragon Sledding and you are giving up?”

“I never give up and this is to be continued,” I insist.

The idea I have has everything to do with the freshly made Gronckle Iron shields I had Fishlegs recently make for us.  Both shields are around our backs right now.

“Get ready,” I call out.  “The cliff is coming up fast.”

We both steady our feet on our dragons.  Just as our dragons launch off the cliff… We push off of our dragons!  Both of us preform backflips to slow ourselves down and let our dragons go beneath us.  As we backflip once, I reach behind for the shield.  Going into the second backflip, I slide the shield’s special handles onto my feet, and a few moments later make contact with the snow.  Annabeth and I both land at the same time and race after our dragons.

“Woooooh hooo!” screams Annabeth.  “This is awesome.”

“Now this is a four-way race to the bottom,” I announce.  “Let’s go get our dragons!”

We planned to do this at this point because from here until the shore, there are hardly any trees but several jumps and ramps that we had made the previous day.

I make my way to the right to a jump where I take off, grab onto my shield, and then ride a downed tree for several yards, before landing back on the snow.  Annabeth took to the halfpipe, went up one side of the pipe before coming back to the right, jumping off the side, and into a three-sixty sideways flip into the air.  She sticks the landing in the halfpipe, obviously.

“Oh, so that is how we are going to do it,” I commend.  “Right of the gate, huh?”

Annabeth quips as she stands up on her board, “What?  You don’t think you can top all this?  Wait, did I just poke the bear?”

         I only grin.

Coming up onto the second to last cliff, I slow my momentum down a little bit before taking a jump, rocking back a bit before the edge, and launching into a front flip two-seventy with two twists.

After landing, Annabeth slow claps, “Pretty good.”

         “Pretty good?” I echo.

“Yeah, that’s what I said,” Annabeth smiles.

Coming to another jump, she pushes off and twists into a sideways three-sixty, rides another tree for several feet, doing another three-sixty, before combining it with a sideways flip and twist off the tree trunk, landing backwards on the snow.

I grade, “Nine and a half.”

While still going backwards, Annabeth puts her hands on her hips, and displeased with the grade, repeats, “Nine and a half?  What about-?”

“Wait,” I hold up my hand.  “After further consideration, the judge has reconsidered and will award a ten.”

“He’d better,” Annabeth nods, turning her body around to face forward.  “You try doing a combination jump into a backwards landing… Oh no.”

Annabeth shrugs her shoulders as I grin.

Now to the last cliff, I turn backwards, go to the outside, and then come back inside, sideways jump into the air, five-forty flip, with three twists, landing backwards, right behind Annabeth… And knocking her legs out from under her.  She is in the air for a moment before landing on me.

“What are you trying to do?!” she demands.

“Uh, sweep you off your feet?” I ask, shrugging my shoulders.

She begrudgingly grunts and facepalms at the same time, “That’s a nice pun, but did you have to run into me to just to use that pun?”

“No,” I smile as this is also a sneaky way to give her a hug, seeing how she is now in my lap.  “I already swept you off your feet. That’s how I got into doing the thing tomorrow with you.  I just ran into you just so I could spoke to you.”

Annabeth can only sigh, “You’re an idiot, but you are my idiot.”

         “Thank you…,” I then pause.  “I think.”

“Oh hey, look who it is,” Annabeth points as we split the gap between to racing dragons.

They are surprised to see us as we slowly pass them.  While they did have the jump on us… Heh… Jump… Because they went off the cliff?  Anyway… two vikings on a very shinny and slippery new Gronckle Iron shield is still less weight and resistance than a single dragon.

As we pass the dragons’ heads, Annabeth says, “Anora.”  Her dragon looks over and Annabeth asks while nodding her head in the air, “‘sup?”

Both dragons just watch us slowly pass them.  A few minutes later, we quickly come towards the coast, but the safety measure in place that we made sure of the previous day is a jump into a massive pile of fresh powered snow which fell the day before.

Annabeth and I go right into the snowbank and our dragons soon follow after us on either side.  Because of them, the fluffy snow collapsed in on itself and covered us all.

Moving the snow out of the way, I work my way up, poking my head up out of the bank, “Didn’t know one could swim in snow.”

Seconds later, Annabeth pops her head up too, in front of me, dumping so snow on me.

“What was that for?” I question.

“While I thank you for letting me win because I was in front of you on the shield, beating you and two dragons by mere moments,” Annabeth comments, trying to be mad, but cannot keep from smiling.  “I was also the first one to be launched into the snowdrift.  Also known as, getting a face full of snow.”

Annabeth shook her head to get a lot of snowflakes out of her head.

         “My goodness Annabeth,” I observe.

         “What?” Annabeth says, not understanding.

I jest, “You need to do something about your dandruff.”

Learning back into the snow, she looks up to the sky, “Will it ever end?”

         “No,” I simply state.

Annabeth reaches to the side and then throws more snow at me, “Good!”

         Snowball fight ensues.

Not the best snow for a snowball fight, so it is more or less just splashing snow on each other for ten minutes.

Thoroughly smoothing out all the snow we had piled up, we both now lay down on it next to each other, Annabeth on my right.

Annabeth takes a deep breath in and out, “I’m tired.”

“Nice to meet you,” I respond.

“Huh?” it only took a moment before she said.  “Oh.”

I reach over with my right hand to grab her left.  As I did, she tilts her head to look at me.  We resume looking up at the clouds in the sky.  The stars are also starting to shine as the sky transitions from an orange-pink tent to a deep navy-blue night.

“Looks like it is going to snow again soon too,” I observe for seeing the clouds.  “Fuzzy white cumulous clouds with a gray-ish bottom means a weather pattern change within the next three days.”

Annabeth comments, “I know.  But it is going to come over night.”

“How can you tell?” I wonder.

“Try looking at the wall of clouds off in the horizon,” Annabeth states.

Lifting my head up to look west, I do in fact see said wall of clouds, “Well, that would do it.”

After a few minutes, I ask Annabeth, “Should we be getting back?”

         Sighing, Annabeth answers, “Yes, probably.”

I stand up first and help Annabeth up.

I fly her home.  Once back, I help her put Anora in their stables.  On my way out, I say hi to Sparklebolt and Electic.  Just as I am about to exit, I duck.  Why?

“You missed me,” I tell a very special Titan.

Star Scream tilts his head back and forth while trying to mouth what I just said; all that comes across is a few short grunts.

I reach into my pocket and hand him some Dragon Nip.  He gladly accepts.

“You’re going to spoil him,” Annabeth comments.  “But, he deserves it.”

“Although the promise did not stipulate, I had to stop,” I add.  “So, I didn’t.  And I have tried and will try to do my best to give him some type of treat every time when I see him.  Plus, now I have another competition going.  I am one up on him now from dodging his swipe with his tail to hit me.”

Star Scream again tries to say what I said while he walks around in a few circles before coming to rest on his stone slab.  Fredrick stays behind to check on Anora and the Thunderwhips.  In only a few short months, they have grown twice the size they were before.

Stepping up to the front door of the Olson’s house, I give Annabeth a slight smile, “This is the last night.”

From atop the doorway, up the two steps, Annabeth looks at me strange for a second, “Please ‘splain.”

I chuckle, “I mean, this is our last night away from each other.”

Annabeth smiles, brushes a lock of hair behind her ear, then leans to her left on the door post, and asks, “What will you be doing the rest of the evening?”

Sighing, as I feel like I have a million things left to do, “I need to go check in The Great Hall to make sure everything is set up the way we wanted it to be, check to make sure the food is ready… Trying to have enough food for all of Berk, all of the Berserker clan, Defenders of the Wing, The Wingmaidens, and the rest of our friends and family… Gobber keeps joking, ‘Sure, we will eat well tomorrow, but for the rest of winter… You’re on your own.’”

Annabeth laughs, “He says that every Snoggletog, and we still have plenty left over.”

“For as much as this is our wedding,” I continue.  “Hiccup is trying to not let Stoick take over too much of the planning duties.  But from the point of view as a chief, tomorrow could have lasting impact for generations to come.”

Annabeth sarcastically down plays, “Still no pressure.”

I go on, “I have to make sure Snotlout does not take too many or hopefully not any of the gifts that our guests may bring.  I said he could keep any tips he would get from keeping track of all the dragons in attendance, so hopefully that will keep him preoccupied from doing what he normally does.  Then, I need to check with the Twins as they will be the ushers.”

“Why did we pick them again?” Annabeth questions.

“Usually, for some jobs you’d want the right viking for the job,” Annabeth nods, I explain.  “The Twins as ushers at a wedding of this magnitude would be to some as the worst two possible choices to make.  Yet, I deduct that wouldn’t that make them the best possible choices to make for ushers?  While they will no doubt do Twin-tastic things for the day, at least it will be interesting.  For as many flaws as they do have, when push comes to shove and you need to count on them, they will get the job done.  Plus, they won’t take anyone else doing any shenanigans.”

Annabeth chuckles, “Because they will be doing all of them.  They have a monopoly on any shenanigans on Berk.  Any illegal shenanigans will have to be checked at the door.”

“That should take me for the next hour or two before heading home for supper,” I tell Annabeth.  “What about you?”

“Your mother is coming over to make any last-minute fitting jobs to my dress,” Annabeth informs.  “She was over earlier today and found some things she wanted to fix.  I said it was fine, but she said it needed to flawless.  I said it was perfect, but I guess a seamstress would want it to be just right.  So, she had gone back to your house to make the changes.”

“Funny,” I tap my chin.  “I’ve never seen her work on your dress before.  You and her keep saying she has worked on it at my house, but I have still haven’t seen the dress.”

Annabeth reaches down from the step and jabs my in the right shoulder, “A mystery I hope you don’t solve until you see me tomorrow.  That is when I want you to see me in the dress and not before.  To answer your question you are probably thinking, no, you cannot come over and see me in my dress.  I want to knock you off your feet with my entrance tomorrow, much like you did to me tonight.”

We both laugh, “There is no need for a grand entrance as I see you as beautiful in any situation, but I can understand why you would want to do that.”

         “Thank you,” Annabeth returns.

“Oh,” I remember.  “I still need to write my vows.”

Annabeth cannot believe it, “You still haven’t written them yet?”

“No,” I deflect a few jabs coming my way.  “I know what I want to say, I just cannot find the words that I want to say and put them on paper.”

Annabeth sighs and shakes her head.

I grab for Annabeth’s right hand to say, “Come here for a moment.”

         Annabeth walks down to me.

         I hug and kiss her.

We slightly lean back a bit and she softly asks, “What was that for?”

Looking into her eyes, I say, “I can at least practice how we will kiss tomorrow.”

Even in the night light, I can still see a bit a blush by her.

Playing it cool, she observes while still looking at me, “It’s getting cold out, isn’t it?”

I whisper to her, “Try to get some sleep.”

She gives me one last hug before stepping back up to the door, “You too,” Annabeth looks back.

“You know,” I say as I start to back up.  “This may be the one night in my life that I won’t get any sleep.”

“I have faith in you,” Annabeth grins.  “Goodnight my Jarl.”

I wave to her and tell her, “Goodnight, my love.”

Great start!!! I am really liking where this is going! The dragon sledding race at the start was very fun to read and I especially loved the part when Annabeth just casually says “sup” to Anora! That was really good! XD

The Shadows Never Sleep

It's been a while, so I am going to go over the last book and then I'll talk about this 'short' story.

The conclusion to this book was epic.  This was easily in my top 3 favorite Jarl Mollerson books.  There were so many good aspects to this book and the pace of the book moved nicely.  The characters all had good development.  I also liked how it got a little darker.  You also changed the style of the story slightly from your other books with the new villains and the type of mystery.

I look forward to seeing how all the unanswered questions tie together.  What was the rest of the prophecy?  Where did Eloner (forgive me if I spelt that wrong) and Throst escape to?  Is the Gale Heart going to return?  Is Garth and Lilah actually good?  How does Vixxen play in with everything?  How does this all play in with HTTYD2?

There is one major plot point that I really need to mention.  What ever happened to Mychia?  You spent the first half of the book with some of the riders trying to track him down.  Then they found his tracks and deducted that he was captured by The Masked Vikings.  Then Jarl and the others just seemed to forget about Mychia.

Is he alive?  Is he okay?  Has he turned to the dark side?  We need to know!

Another part of the story that you seemed to play into then left was the Skygge chapters.  You had him steal a bag of gems and hinted that there may be something special with those gems, but you never elaborated.  You also made a side comment about Skygge working with someone, but you never revealed who.  Just something that I think we would like explained.

Again, I really loved this book and I can't wait to see what you do next.  This was an epic story and I can't want to see what happens.

All I can say is....

I look forward to how this plays out.  Will there be a mystery?  Will any villains crash the party?  Will the twins cause chaos?

I can't wait to get into this and see how you handle this milestone of your series.

(Side note:  only you could have two barbarian-lovebirds making tree puns as they race down a hill on fire-breathing lizards the day before they get married.)

As you move on in your series, I just wanted to remind you of a few huge unanswered questions from previous books.

1.   In book 4, Jarl found half of a small, blue gem from a dragon hunter ship (actually, Smoky found it, but that's beside the point). Jarl later finds something that appears to be the other half of the gem in the Thorvalds' house (the three siblings who the original book's mystery centered around).  You also spent an entire chapter where the Thorvald sister talked about a blue gem that a mystery was based off of.

However, none of this ever got answered.  Jarl solved the mystery with the help of book covers and, after the book ended, the mystery of the blue gem was forgotten.

2.  In book 4 or 5 there was a masked Viking (not apparently of the same kind as The Crimson Storm) who lurked around Berk.  The first time this person was revealed, they attacked Jarl in the Thorvald's house.  The masked viking escaped.  Later in the series, Jarl hears noises outside his house and goes to investigates.  If I remember right, Jarl chases a shadowy figure through Berk, but they escape.

This mysterious figure was never named and still remains unanswered to this day.  Could they still be lurkin on Berk?

3.  In Thoughts of Guilt, Jarl and a few crew members watched as, in the dead of night, Jarl's Father rowed off Berk and boarded a random ship.  Jarl's Father soon returned but, even though Jarl's father was proven innocent at the end of the book, this random ship was never answered.

Could this ship be somehow connected to the Dragon Hunters or Masked Vikings?  Could Jarl's Father NOT be as innocent as we think?

4.  In either Book 4 or 5, Jarl and crew discover a box on Mystery that contained a Dragon Eye Lens.  There was no name on the box and nobody saw who left the box.  This wouldn't be a problem, except nobody outside of the Riders were supposed to know about Mystery's location.  So who left it?  Were they friend of foe?

I know you are busy with college, so, if you want, I can try tracking these down and provide links if you want.

I just wanted to give you a heads up that if you don't hear from me for a month or so, do not be alarmed.  There is trouble in the Southern Seas that may very well require the bravery and cleverness of one Lack Lunason.

Until the time is right.....

Lack Lunason

Important announcement!

(I figure you've probably already figured that out, but I thought I'd play it safe.)

Hi, I'm Lack Lunason. I'm called that because I lack many things, and I'm a lunatic. I just put son on the end to make it sound more like a viking name. I'm also a Christ follower.

Here are just a few more things about me:

  1. I am a procrastinator.
  2. I'm pretty nice (mostly).
  3. I am most definitely kind (don't listen to those that say otherwise).
  4. Adventurous.
  5. Lazy.
  6. A dreamer.
  7. And I'm slightly crazy.

I've been around SoD for a long time. I think I was one of the first thousand to leave Berk and sail to the school. I'm happily part of the bold clan known as POTATO BROTHERS. I have over four-thousand trouphies, although, I don't like racing much. On the other hand, I'm a Master Farmer.  (Don't you dare ask me how fishing is going!  We don't speak of that!)

On the ranking on the forum, I've completed/on the following: Jarl, Forager, Wilderness Explore, Viking Warrior, Dragon Trainer, Drott, Dragon Master, Chief, Berk's Power Player, and......

(Respect my Authority!)

[because no one else will]

(Sorta) Current Trophy Count:

Now onto some random stuff. This part will grow over time.

Things I am a Fan of

How To Train Your Dragon

Quotes I love

"Once I set the sea alight with a single fiery breath....

Once I was so mighty that I thought my name was death....

Sing out loud until you're eaten, song of melancholy bliss....

For the mighty and the middling all shall come to THIS...."

The Green Death, How To Train Your Dragon: book 1. Cressida Cowell.

Stoick The Vast. How To Train Your Dragon: Book 5. Creessida Cowell.

"I sailed so far to be a King, but the time was never right.....

I lost my way on a stormy past, got wrecked in starless night....

But let my heart be wrecked by hurricanes and my ship by stormy weather....

I know I am a Hero...and a Hero is....FOREVER!

In another time, another place, I could have been a King....

But in my castle's ruined towers the lonely seabirds sing.....

I burned up my Tomorrows, I cannot go back ever....

But I am still a Hero....and a Hero is.......FOREVER!

Up with your sword and strike at the gale......

Ride the rough seas for those waves are your home......

Winters may freeze but our hearts do not fail.....

You are never alone if the sea is your friend......

Riding the waves of impossible quests.....

If it doesn't end well, then it isn't the end.....

A Hero.....Fights.....FOREVER!

The hero cares not for a wild winter's storm.....

For it carries him swift on the back of the wave.....

All may be lost and our hearts may be worn.....

Grimbeard the Ghastly's Last Song. How To Train Your Dragon: Book 11 and 12. Cressida Cowell.

That's about it. I give full credit for...well, everything, to GOD. Have a good day.
