I want to start by saying, sorry if this topic seems a little out of place. I couldn't find anywhere else to put it that fitted to me. But, you didn't click on this to be told about where this is placed. You most likely want to know 'why would someone say fast dragons are bad?' Well, I'll tell you.

I LOVE my Skrill (as my name implies) and Toothless (which I'm considering 'fast dragons'). But, the problems come when Thunder Run Racing these dragons. As you may already know, these dragons are the overpowered beings of SoD. Their speeds are supposedly 10, but obviously faster than a Monstrous Nightmare, who also has the max speed of 10. So, it's unfair to those people who don't have enough gems to buy one. Now before you say that they could just buy the gems, some people out there can't. I've met a few people on the chat that have said that their mothers woud not allow them to buy the gems/membership. Some others can't even get free gems because there's some weird glitch that happens to them. But then, we also have our rights.

If you are a "membership dragon owner" like me, then one of your collection probably has a Skrill/Toothless. We paid with our own money (or parents for young audiences) to get our dragons, or we worked extra hard doing enough offers to get our gems, so it's fair to us. And we assume it's only right to race them, since we worked for them. But, think of all the other vikings without the proper amount of gems.

So why do I keep going from one side to the other? Should we race our Skrills and Toothlesses? Or should we be fair and race any slower dragons, like Nadders or Flightmares? I'm going to tell you my solution to balance this debate. Obviously, there will always be Skrill/Toothless racers out there. But there are probably more people without speedy dragons like them. So, try just starting out with a slower dragon (maybe you'll even find a new racing partner doing this). If there are too many Skrills and Night Furies in the room, then bring out your own Skrill/Night Fury; ONLY if there are about three in the room I would suggest. For you vikings with the starter dragons, you can continue racing or try something else if there are too many fast dragons. Or for you people that race slow dragons in general, to reassure you, Scauldrons are able to beat saddled Toothless. Yes, I know. It happened to me and many other people in MULTIPLE RACES.

So, this is my conclusion. Yes, I've finally stopped talking. If you have any other ways to race with certain dragons, or approve/disapprove this idea, tell us! Well, I hope this advice will do something for you guys. If it doesn't and you keep racing fast dragons no matter what, don't be surprised if we strike back.

Nice!

Nice thread. I really enjoy racing with my Skrill since they are my favorite dragons, and they have gotten slower, but I'll try to stop using him as much.

Sorry Tesla, but you're over powered.

I hope you don't mind me adding this, but if anyone who can't afford a newer dragon is really having a hard time racing, Nadders, Zipplebacks and Gronckles are all significantly better than the Monstrous Nightmare.

In fact, the Monstrous Nightmare is probably the worst racer imo. However, they are MUCH MUCH better with at least a Wild Saddle.

That's not hate on Nightmares, they are my absolute favorite of the original adoptable dragons, and I happen to own one, but I have had way easier runs with my Nadder and Zippleback, and Gronckles have an extreme turning advantage that helps them beat even Toothlesses.

Also Thunderdrums are super fast too. More so than Whispering Deaths anyway. The Flightmare, Scauldron, Rumblehorn and Hobblegrunt all have an acceleration advantage too.

This is how I see the dragons:

Toothless > Skrill > Hobblegrunt > Thunderdrum > Flightmare > Scauldron > Rumblehorn > Whispering Death > Gronckle > Zippleback > Nadder > Nightmare

Except ever since the dragons got their flying speeds altered the Gronckle, Zippleback and Nadder may be better or worse now.

Just my two cents, sorry to bust in on your thread like that XD.

WHOA. You've never raced a real Zip. They've always been pretty fast. Ill do my own

Toothless > Skrill > Zippleback > Thunderdrum > Rumblehorn > Hobblegrunt > Flightmare > Gronckle > Whisper > Nadder > Nightmare (Don't know where to put Scauldron, never raced an experienced Scauldron rider)

The Zippleback is top three easy. They have great speed and decent accelaration, but are Horrendous on turns. I can do a 1:54 on Fortune Falls no boosts on my Zip.

I can't confirm any of those, but after using most of the dragons, thats what I got. I can confirm that the Zippleback is faster than the Gronckle, Whisper, Rumble, Scauldron, Flightmare, Thunderdrum, and Hobblegrunt though.

I think I'm going to make a full dragon guide for Thunder Run, but I'm still missing a few.

Lol, I probably haven't, but

Lol, I probably haven't, but if it helps I got kind of lost trying to put it somewhere.

Every Hobblegrunt I've raced has been like a rocket though. I was so surprised when I took mine out the first time.

I'll probably take Spit and Spat racing to test that out.

The Hobblegrunt has acclearation like no other, but they aren't as fast as most others. Often that initial lead is enough for them to win though

Sorry, good sir. Verdia (my Zippie) is an excellent racer, horrendous on turns but great speed/acceleration-wise, but Chaotic (my Thunderdrum) beats her every time.

I'm going to guess on this one: Toothless > Skrill > Thunderdrum > Zippleback > Flightmare > Hobblegrunt > Rumblehorn > Nadder > Gronckle > Death > Scauldron > Nightmare

I could be wrong. Actually, I probably am on the order, but so far my Thunderdrum has yet to be beaten by my Zippleback :/

Personality: The explorer. She enjoys soaring around the School, the Wilderness, and Berk and trying to find glitch caves. Shooting to the top of Gothi's house only to jump off and trust that her dragon will catch her is a favorite pasttime. Though at first she may seem like an aloof, competitive Viking, she's a friendly prankster as well. Yvette would do anything for Verdia and Chae, just like how she knows Verdia and Chae would do the same for her. As for Rymirae, they're still working on it!

Don't be afraid to befriend her or challenge her to a race!

Dragon name: Verdia (Adri & Eve)

Dragon type: Hideous Zippleback

Level & Stats: 20 & [7, 7, 7, 7] with gear

Represents: The earth and the sky

Personality: A lot like her trainer, Verdia is a competitive and loving goofball who loves her sleep probably because her trainer bores her to death. She's brash, outgoing, and sometimes an immutable prankster! Any dragon blasting her will surely get a face full of noxious gas... and then an explosion. Verdia loves to race hard, even if those turns can be a little tight, and have a delicious salmon afterwards. Adri also says Eve is the bigger derp of the two (just look at that face.) Though Yvette may tease her a little too much somedays, the two have a strong and unbreakable bond. They know they can count on each other, no matter how much they may change in the future.

Dragon name: Chaotic

Dragon type: Thunderdrum

Level & Stats: 20 & [10, 7, 8, 6] with gear

Represents: The night sky and the sea

Personality: Despite the usual connotation of being loudmouthed, Chaotic is actually a rather shy and introverted dragon. However, when around friends and family, Chaotic is bubbly, bright, enthusiastic, and.... lazy. Him and Verdia get along VERY well, probably because they share similar interests: sleep. Chaotic likes playing Eel Roast more than racing - Yvette's also trying to learn which style of flying best suits him, since he's so different than Verdia. After some time, they've finally got it working, and Chaotic and Yvette are now fierce racers! After the day ends, Yvette can look forward to snuggling up with Chae in his stable, safe from danger.

Dragon name: Rymirae

Dragon type: Flightmare

Level & Stats: 8 & [4, 8, 8, 9]

Represents: The sea and the sun

Personality: The youngest of Yvette's three companions, Rymirae is also undoubtly the most passionate. She's hard working and dramatic at everything she does, throwing her everything into the current task. Right now, she's practicing her gliding, and knows that she's be flying in no time. This passion can also cause some outbursts, but overall Rae can be a fantastic companion. Yvette is so overjoyed and excited to have a new member of her family! Everything is still in the works - though both Yvette and Rae are already close-knit, they have a lot to learn about one another.

I too have a Thunderdrum.

Both my Thunder and Zip have Sleek saddles and my Zip always wins by at least one or two seconds. I don't think I've ever lost to a Thunderdrum who didn't use boosts on my Zip, which I race a lot (At least 3000 trophies came from him). I'll challenge this.

I'll make a full in depth look at all dragon speeds and make a post about it.

The admins said so themselves:

"We try to base the speed of the dragons after the series and the movies, that is why Toothless and the skrills are faster than other dragons."

it makes sence and i can respect that, I dont mind seeing a bunch of skrills, but a bunch of Toothless makes me mad, its like are you really that low that you have to use Toothless to win?

Hobblegrunts are way op for a hobblegrunt though, they arent suppose to be good fliers, you can tell by the way they flap in the moble game: Rise of Berk

do not steal anything from this signature!!!

MyDragons:

1. Echo = A large stormcutter, slightly bigger then Cloudjumper.  He is very strong and fast for his species. He is very loyal to his rider. He has a bit of an attitude, and doesnt show much emotion. He is a big sweetheart but finds showing it off to be embarassing. He is only goofy acting and silly when alone with his rider or Toxic.

2. Toxic = my oldest and longest owning dragon.  She is more playful than even stormfly...and thats saying a lot.  She is just about as competitive and trains hard.  She is quite smart and very quick on her feet.  She is a great tracker and loves to take long, nighttime flights.

3. Blackout = a rather bad boy character... well he tries to be. He is really quite lovable, but tries to be tough and brutal. He is very standoffish and doesn’t trust people easily. He mostly runs from them and will attack if they follow. He is wild at heart, but sometimes let’s his rider take him for a spin... but be careful of being zapped.

4. Eclipse = (a nightfury/speed stinger mix). despite being a fearsome dragon species, he is extremely playful and loves to be petted. His personality has two sides to it, the playful friendly side for his friends and children, then the deadly protective side when anyone is in danger. He has a slight fear of thunderstorms and prefers to be inside during them. He loves the rain, but not during thunder. He has all of the abilities of a nightfury and a speed stinger.

6. Nightwhisper = a female nightlight whom performs medical opperations in battle. She saves injured animals and gets them to safety.  She is very intellegent, wild, and creative.  She loves to draw on the ground and will get mad at you if you step on them.  If you try to get on her back she will buck you off, she hates being ridden by most people.  She loves to fly alone and do tricks in the sky. Whisper is mostly nocturnal, but will go out at daytime. She is the second generation daughter of Toothless and the Lightfury.  She is very rebellious, but loves her family dearly. She is very cat like but is as loyal as a dog.

7. Lucian = he is a lightfury/sandwraith/changewing hybrid.  His main firepower is a strong acid that can even go through metal.  He also has very weak plasma blasts.  He can turn invisible, swim well, and buries under the sand. He is overall very lazy and loves to just lay around and soak up the sun.  He will only attack if provoked.  He is overall quite friendly with humans, but can be a bit territorial.  He does often shed his skin to keep himself fresh and new.  He is a bit of a prankster when he wants to be.  He loves to also float in the water. If you wish to find him, walk along a beach during the day and you will prob find him there!

8. Caspian = night whisper's mate. He is an aquatic lightfury whom prefers swimming over flying. He is large for his breed and brave. He is also a bit wreckless and silly.

9. Whirlpool = a scauldron whom loves to swim and help fisherman catch fish. He is very friendly and outgoing for his species.

10. Frostflight = a very lonely lightfury. she lives a life of solitude and is too skeptical to let anyone into her life. Everyone she loved either died or abandoned her. She gets lonely often and spends her time drawing in the dirty, hanging out with animals, or climbing.

11. Scorpio = a stubborn hard headed dragon made after the Scorpio astrology sign. He is everything that they are.

12. Ghost = the son of Caspian and Nightwhisper. He is moreso a lightfury then a nightfury.  He has all of the abilities of a lightfury and can swim well like his father.

13. Adler = Toxic's mate. He is very hot headed, but kind and tempered around Toxic. He likes to always be in charge, and gets grumpy if he isnt. However, he makes a great leader when in charge.

Yeah, I can handle a Skrill and even enjoy racing them from time to time. Offers a challenge.

Toothless on the other hand..

Hes a little over the top. Its not an issue unless the rider is experienced. If you mix the fastest dragon with an experienced rider, it becomes easy for them to win.

I don't think the staff has a right to make the "Staying realistic to the show" defense. You can't really say you're being accurate to the show when there are 50 Toothlesses flying around Berk, but ok.

Nothing against Toothless riders, you're not a problem for me (I don't enter races with Toothless anymore)

Im just giving my thoughts on the matter

Hobblegrunts are like jets

Hobblegrunts are like jets O.O. I was extremely surprised by their speed. I can understand them trying to make the dragons accurate to their show and TV counterparts, but sometimes I feel like the newer dragons are made to be good at racing regardless. Nadders should be faster than ones like the Rumblehorn and Hobblegrunt. Have you seen Stormfly? In Heather Report she was almost Toothless's speed just by eating chicken.

My hobblegrunt isn't that

My hobblegrunt isn't that fast though. It is supposed too have the same speed as flightmare, and flightmares are not very fast. I always start of 1st when I use my flightmare because of its great acceleration, but I usually finish 3rd or fourth because other dragons are faster. Plus I don't even wreck.

*Psst... What is a subject?*

Well... I have a Skrill (shoutout: I love you Twilight!) but I don't normally race it because I can't afford its saddle yet. Even then, I feel like I would still stick with Waterfall (my Nadder). Her turns have helped me beat countless Toothlesses.
As for my Whispering Death... Eh, she's not as great as she looks. I definitely agree with the Nightmare statement. They are AWFUL. My sister was too scared to race (I know) and she was begging me to get trophies... EVERY TURN, I CRASHED INTO A WALL. Maybe it's because I'm more accustomed to a Nadder's turn rate? Oh well. At least I got her some seconds and a first or two. :3
Almost every race now, I'm paired with at least one Toothless. In one race today, it was just me and three Toothlesses! Whatever happened to him being the only Night Fury in existence? And every time I race him, (the experienced riders anyway), I just want to rip my hair out. I mean, I'm cutting close turns and he's taking wide arcs and somehow he just manages to whiz past me. Um, no thanks. One time I even got so angry that I stood up and started screeching, "TOOTHLESS IS A HACK! TOOTHLESS IS A HACK!"
Well, he might as well be.

I think this is an excellent idea. Usually I race with my toothless because of so many other Vikings with a skrill or toothless. But I think it would be a good idea to use my nadder when racing normal dragons. I will try this.

I race with my skrill because it is my favorite dragon and I am used to the turn and pitch, however when I see a toothless with a saddle I tend to grit my teeth a bit before the start of the race. None of the new dragons have a saddle aside from the novice. I wonder what new saddles would bring to the plate as far as good racers go, because I'd love to test out a sleek saddle on my hobble.

I agree with

I agree with Mople if the rider is good at Tunder Run and has a fast dragon then yes it is hard to win, but I would say that it is mostly about how good the rider is at controling their dragon and how well they know the tracks so if you have a slower dragon but you know the tracks really well you still have a chance of winning.

Sorry if there is any spelling mistakes.

I have a question about

I have a question about thunder run. I was racing with my skrill against toothless and I saw toothless wreck into a wall but he still beat me. I am confused because toothless and skrills are supposed to have the same speed and I was really close behind them. Plus I never wrecked in the race at all and I used shortcuts. Why did that happen?

Toothless is faster than the Skrill.

Also could've used a boost

I agree with Mople on this

I agree with Mople on this one, there is some luck involved in TRR whether you or your opponents get a boost when in 2nd place or under. Also it is highly dependent on the track as well for maneuvering with the boost.

Some advice ^_^

Is Toothless definitely faster than the skrill in-game? I'm not a member so I don't have Toothless to compare to my skrill (and I don't plan to get him either- I like my dragons to be unique). I'm pretty sure his turning is better than the skrill, at least.

Anyway, I have to agree that most times the winner is decided not by the type of dragon, but by the experience of the player; I've beaten lots of Toothless' in the hands of inexperienced players using my zippleback. Shout out to zipplebacks by the way- they're only about a second behind skrill speed, so if you need a basic dragon to race with I highly reccommend them (but be careful on the turns- take them wide)! To the commentator above who said s/he got 1.54 in fortune falls on their zip, I now feel humbled. I've never been quicker than 1.55 (sans boost), and that's on my skrill. Better get practicing! :D If you can afford to go for an 'upgraded' dragon but can't afford the skrill, opting for a thunderdrum may be the way to go (300 gems). In my experience they're like zips, but with improved turning.

If I had to pick the worst dragon to race, it would have to be the monstrous nightmare followed closely by the scauldron. I've been neglecting my nightmare because he just can't turn during races (the poor guy's stuck at lvl 15, I should probably do some farming with him or something...). As for the scauldron, I find that its bulky body can make turning tricky, and its speed is poor (not impossible to win with, just difficult).

Also, it may be worth considering flight motion; I have issues riding nadders and whispering deaths because of their weird body movements. It makes it more difficult to judge dives/turns (especially on my whispering death- sometimes I can't see over her massive head!).

The only dragon I race with

The only dragon I race with is my Skrill, because I only have two dragons, and the other one happens to be a nightmare xD

And yes, they have a horrible turning and acceleration, but it's something you have to get used to.

But to make it a bit more fair against vikings who ride a slower dragon, for example a flightmare I think they should make sleek/wild saddles for the slower dragons, but not for the faster dragons, skrills and toothless cuz that would just be WAY to op...

But Iv'e been beaten countless times by slower dragons, so I think that all you have to do to be a great racer is to get used to your dragon and learn to use its advantage to beat other racers. When I first got my skrill I was TERRIBLE at racing because I couldn't turn him, but now I'm used to him and I know how to properly race with him :)

Exactly what I was thunking about the "No Skrill saddle" thing. Unfortunately they already have a saddle for Toothless that boosts Speed. Terrible implementation adding that to the already unbalanced TR.

Sorry, this is off-topic, but

Sorry, this is off-topic, but I seriously love your image! What can be better than a cat that fires lazers from its eyes XD Anyway, yes. I agree with everything you've said, how it really depends on the experience. And that Toothless saddle, its just something I hate to see when I get on TR.

They should have a sleek

They should have a sleek skrill saddle so that non members have a chance.

I don't think so.. The Skrill

I don't think so.. The Skrill already have speed 10, so it would be way to op to have a sleek saddle for them. I'm not a member but I can still win lots of races with my skrill
