Something always seems to come up when I sit down to start typing.  It seems like it never fails.  When I think I got something done so I can start working on my next chapter, something else needs to be done.

I just want to hit something:

I found this gif and I just had to use.  XD

Well, I hope you guys enjoy this chapter.

The plot will get thicker and thicker as the story goes on and the references to RTTE becoem more and more.

What do you think of the end of the chapter?  Who is it?

On the Edge of Mystery

Chapter 9

So Many Mysteries, So Few Answers

I thought about that symbol and the connection to my friends, the Thorvalds, all the way to an island Annabeth took us to.  The island is the island that Annabeth kept Sirena on so that she would be off Berk.  Annabeth was and still is concerned that the people on Berk would not take Sirena as the dragon she is and make her out to be something that she is not.  The island is a small island, but enough fish around for a dragon to live off of.  Sirena is a free-spirited dragon, but she always came here as this was her home.  Sirena would go off for a few weeks, as she seemed to be an adventurous dragon, but would always come back.

Annabeth mentioned, as she has before these last few days, “Sirena never stayed this long away before.  I have no idea why she would as Anora and Star Scream were best of friends.”

The island is only about as big as probably The Great Hall, yet it is covered in many trees, thick foliage, and a lake where some fish are.  As far as I know, it is an uncharted island or rather an unnamed island because the only use for it is it fish; although, the fish found here can be found in the streams, creeks, and waters in and around Berk.  So really it is not an important island to Berk… but it is to Annabeth.

The same way I told the girls to look at the lake on my family’s farm I did the same here: to look for anything out of the ordinary or any clue or track that could help us.

The island was small enough and the wind calm enough that we could hear each other talk; Annabeth said with a hint of worry, “I don’t know why Sirena would leave and stay away this long.  She had plenty of food, I came and saw her every day, and she had her best friends to play with.”

“That is what we are here to find out,” I replied.

Each of the dragons followed their respective owners.  Fredrick kept right behind me as I scanned the immediate area.  Being here a couple of times every so often, I knew my way around fairly well.  Though since the island is so small, one could come here and know it pretty well the first visit.

After nearly an hour of searching every square inch of the island, somebody finally called out; it is Asvord, “I think I found something.”

Asvord’s call out came northwest of my location, so I ran over and down the rise in the land to continue on to where Asvord is at.  Elsa and Annabeth came from my left and right to meet up with my other sister.

“What is it?!” Annabeth asked in anticipation.

“I’m not sure,” Asvord answered.  “We’ve searched everywhere, but nothing is out of the ordinary.  The only things we’ve come across are these tracks.”

Annabeth looked somewhat crestfallen, but I tried to be positive, “Maybe that’s it.”

“That’s what?” my older sister echoed.

“Exactly,” I said, but my sister looked at me like I am not even here.  “Look, all we have seen are these tracks, correct?”

Everyone agreed by nodding their head.

“So,” I continued.  “We can rule out attack; because if Sirena was taken against her will, then there would have been signs of struggle and battle marks from their shots.”

“Yes, you’re right,” perked up Annabeth, but then she became sad again.  “But that would mean that Sirena left.”

“Not necessarily,” I reassured, I bent down to study the tracks in the sand near the lake.  “We’ve all seen these tracks here on the island and Annabeth are these not Death Song dragon tracks?”

She responded, “Yeah, but what’s so important about that.”

I stood up, “Since you know more about Sirena than anybody else, what dragon stage age wise you believe Sirena to be in currently?”

Annabeth thought for a moment, “Somewhere in between the broad wing and short wing stage.  Sirena is still young and exhibits sometimes childlike behavior, yet her wings are large enough for her to fly.  She always seemed like she had quick growth.”

“That is what I was thinking, but wanted to see what you though,” I stated.  “For I haven’t seen her recently for about a month, even then she seemed quite large for her age.  But since we know hardly anything about the dragon, we don’t really know how fast they’ll grow.  For one thing, maybe a Death Song’s wings grow first before the rest of the body, so they are able to fly sooner than most other dragons.  But do you see anything else different about these tracks?”

          They all shook their heads.

I explained, “If Sirena is in the broad winged stage with her wings, but the late short winged stage because of her body size, would not her foot be relatively small?”

“Yes,” Annabeth said right away.  “Sirena’s footprint is only about a yard long and-…”

“Now you got it,” I declared.  “Sirena’s footprint is only a yard long… so why is there a larger Death Song footprint that is nearly twice as large?”

Elsa then asked, “Are you saying there are other Death Songs out there?”

“Yes,” I said.  “Just because you only see one dragon of one species, doesn’t mean there isn’t more out there.  The only example of this not being true is in Toothless’ case.  For one thing, we found Sirena when she was in her early short wing stage, but no mother.”

Annabeth then questioned, “Are you insinuating that Sirena’s mother finally came for her?”

          “It is possible,” I answered.

Asvord then added, “It would explain there being no signs of struggle and Sirena just flew off with the other Death Song.”

Annabeth then said, “But it could just be it was another Death Song and Sirena thinks she has a new friend that is just like her.  But since we know nothing about this type of dragon, we do not know what these dragons will do.  For all we know they could eat their own kind.”

I could tell that Annabeth did not want to believe that Sirena would just up and leave, but yet if that were the truth, then she would not be worry about what she just said.

“That is true and a possibility,” I agreed.  “We do not know anything about the species, so we must take everything into consideration.”

Elsa put out the obvious statement, “All things considered… we have no clue where they/Sirena could have gone.  We haven’t found a clue to where they could have gone or what could have happened, so where do we go from here?”

I nodded my head back and forth, “Yeah you’re right.  We don’t have much to go on, so all we can do is just wait.”

Annabeth the replied, “You guys go on back to Berk.  I uh… I have something I need to go do now.”

I mounted Fredrick while saying but not looking at Annabeth, “If you find Sirena, just observe and come back and tell us.  Otherwise stay safe.”

“How di-.” Annabeth began but was stopped short as I said, “Annabeth.  Solving mysteries is in my job description.”

Asvord then retorted, “Yeah, because you don’t have anything else better to do that you are good at.”

“Oh come on,” I grinned while I pulled on Fredrick’s reins.

He snorted like he tried to say, “I didn’t say it; she did.”

Annabeth got on Anora and flew off in the opposite direction.  My sisters and I flew back to Berk.  I mentioned we should stop by the Thorvalds to see if Annett was able to now, that she rested, to tell about her adventures in her diary.  But I did also say that I wanted to stop by and see Hiccup.  The girls wanted to go home first, so I said I would meet them there.

We arrived back at Berk and went our separate ways.  I tried Gobber’s shop, but only Gobber was in there cooking up some sort of stew or soup.  To me, it did not smell very good.

“That’s a good sign,” Gobber said.  “Means I started out right; it may not be good smellin’ now, but it soon will be.”

          “Where’s Hiccup?” I asked.

“Oh, I think he’s in his house waiting until I’m done here,” Gobber answered.  “You can tell him it won’t be ready until after sundown.”

I thanked Gobber for the info and went on my to Hiccup’s house.  I did not fly on my dragon to get over there, I just walked.  His house is right there, so by the time I get on my dragon and get up in the air I would have to land practically.  Plus, enjoy the day a little bit and say, “Hi,” to some passersby.  I said, “Hi,” to Tuffnut.  He said, “Hi,” back, but muffled as he was itching his teeth.  Do not know what that was about.

I knocked on the door and Hiccup asked who it was, I answered, and Hiccup said the door was open.  Fredrick stayed outside as he is a little too wide to enter most house doors.  Fredrick in turn went around to the side of the house and did something you will “never” guess what he did… take a nap.

          “I’m up stairs,” called Hiccup.

Closing the door behind me, I walked upstairs to find Toothless curled up as well taking a nap and Hiccup at his desk just staring at the Dragon Eye.  He looked like he was trying to draw, but by his look he did not seem to be in the mood.

“Glad you guys made it back alright,” I stated.  “I heard about what happened from Astrid.  Oh and we heard about the Giant Eels from Johann, but not until you guys had already left hours before.  I quickly got together a posse to go after you guys and warn you about them, but we had to deal with our own problems.”

“That’s okay,” Hiccup replied.  “We were able to handle things for the most part; though it still would have been nice to know about those eels as they scared off our dragons.  I was able to go after Dagur and at least get this, but Dagur has all the gold and treasure that was aboard the ships in The Graveyard. What problems did you guys encounter.”

“A band of Berserker ships, probably from the same part of the Armada Dagur deployed to find that Dragon Eye,” I responded.

Hiccup asked me to go into more detail, so I recounted what happened with my group last night.  I pulled up a chair, turned it around backwards, and sat on it, leaning on the back of the chair with my arms

“That is true, why would Dagur deploy ships and men to that ship graveyard when he knew where the Dragon Eye was actually?” Hiccup wondered.  “But sounds like you had your hands full anyway.  By the way, you did the right thing in going back to Berk.  You would have either gotten lost or yourselves captured trying to find us since you didn’t know where exactly to go.  We held our own, even though we lost the gold.  But at least Dagur doesn’t have the Dragon Eye.  By the way, that was a brilliant move to use your dragon as an escape route.  Glad you made it out of that interesting, but dangerous situation.”

“Thanks,” I replied.  “I am too, but I am going to go back.”

“For that gem piece you found?” thought Hiccup.

“Yes,” I answered.  “That might have also been something they were looking for.  So like you said, it would be better for us to have it then them.”

Hiccup then changed subjects, “I hear you have a mystery brewing.”

I chuckled, “Guess word travels fast in Berk.  Yes I do.”

          “What’s it about?” Hiccup inquired.

“Not sure yet,” I said.  “I’m still trying to figure that out.  I have several things going on right now, all with their individual circumstances.  But I cannot help shake the feeling they are all connected somehow.”

“Is Annett alright?  I also heard about her disappearance soon after I left Gobber to fix the Yak Noodle Soup for Gothi,” Hiccup stated.

“Yes she is fine,” I replied.  “I’m going over there after this to talk and see if she remembered anything else on what happened and to ask about some other clues I found.  Don’t know if there is a connection there or not, but I want to be sure before I say anything.”

“Speaking of something brewing,” Hiccup said getting up; as he did so did Toothless.  “I want to check on how Gobber’s doing.”

As we walked downstairs I told him, “Gobber said the soup won’t be done until after sundown.”

“In that case,” Hiccup replied, as we both exited his house with Toothless behind us.  “I will round up the gang and meet at Gobber’s so we can all go up to see Gothi.”

Fredrick came around to greet me, this time I got on him as the trip would be a little longer to go to the Thorvalds’ house.

“I saw Tuffnut scratching his teeth.  What’s that all about?” I asked.

“Oh,” Hiccup spoke.  “While Gobber was trying to open the Dragon Eye, he set off some safety mechanisms protecting the Dragon Eye.  First Tuffnut got hit with a dart that knocked him out for a second.  He was alright, but then some gas was released.  Everyone covered their nose, but when Tuffnut breathed it in he fainted again.  When we went to Gothi about the Dragon Eye, we first got Tuffnut the remedy he needed.  Although the sign of Tuffnut’s teeth itching is a sign that shows the remedy is working.”

“I hope I don’t have to take that stuff,” I replied.

I waved to Hiccup as I departed for the Thorvalds.  When I had arrived, Spiker and Meatballs were already at the house.  So after landing, I let Fredrick go over with my sisters’ dragons while I entered the house.  Hearing a conversation going on upstairs, the girls must have already asked Annett to start on her adventures without me.  Girls would do that sort of thing, especially when those girls are the guy’s sisters.

I started up the stairs.  The stairs creaked after each step I took, but as I was coming down with my right foot…

I had not even come down with my foot yet on the stair, yet I still heard a creak on a floor board.  But the creak came from somewhere back behind me as it sounded at a distance to me.

I just froze as I turned around, shifting my weight on my left foot as to keep solid pressure on the step so it would not creak.  Once turned around, I did not hear anything else.

“Hey Jarl?” yelled a voice from upstairs.

That scared me so much my heart felt like it skipped a beat.

“Could you go down on Annett’s desk and get that other book you were looking at?” came Asvord’s voice.

I did not want to give away my position, but seeing how it was already given away by Asvord I acknowledged and slowly moved back downstairs.  When I got to the bottom of the steps, I stopped to peek my head past the edge of the stairway hall.  I did not see anything.

“Am I just hearing things?” I wondered.

I went over to Annett’s desk and thumbed through the books until I found the one I did the night before.

There it goes again.  But I did not try to even flinch.  I played it casually as if I did not hear a thing.  I put the book down as if I was going to read a couple of lines while I put my hands over the top of the chair; left hand on top of the back part of the chair and the right on the right strut of the back part of the chair.  Then grabbing the chair, picking it up, and whirling it around to strike the person behind me, I hit them and they stumbled back dazed.

I could not see who they were as they had a mask on, but it is a man.

They came back at me with a knife in their right hand and swung at me, backhanded.  I blocked their attack with my right forearm, grabbed the hand with the knife with my left hand, and started pushing them back.  The person kind of gave up and so I pushed them all the way back to the other wall.  They kept pushing on my arm to try and knife me, but I kept pushing back at them.  I suddenly kick their right shin, making them drop their knife as they cringed in pain.

I reached down to get the knife but they shoved me with their left foot and I sprawled out on the floor.  He bent down to pick up the knife as I scrambled to jump back on them.  We toss and rolled and ran into furniture and knocked stuff over.

Asvord yelled down again, “I just asked you to get a book, not cause an earthquake.”

The guy had me pinned under him while he tried forcing the knife down on me.  It took all of my will and effort to push back, keeping him from knifing me.

Although I had enough to retort back at Asvord; my voice came out like I am struggling… which I am, “I decided to rearrange the furniture.  I didn’t like how the room looked.  The benches clashed with the rugs, so I decided to do something about it.”

“Oh yak burgers,” cried out Asvord.  “Something’s wrong.  When my brother starts talking about the furniture and decorations of the house, he needs help.”

“Ya think?” I replied as I had an idea, though I quipped back.  “I just wanted to make noises… for no apparent reason.”

I remembered something that my mother said when somebody is forcing something on you:  If you suddenly stop pushing on your attacker, then that will catch them off guard.  But since this guy has a knife, I angled the knife as best I could next to my face.  I then stopped pushing back all together and the knife, from the force of my attacker, lodged the knife in floorboard below.  However, my hands were now to my side, so my attacker punched me by giving me a right cross before fleeing.

The guy ran out the door as soon as Asvord thundered down stairs.

“What are you doing on the floor?” Elsa asked.  “And what is  knife doing next to your head?”

I slowly got up as she came over to offer help, “I decided house decoration wasn’t my thing, so I decided to play a game with X’s and O’s.  What does it look like I’m doing?”

Just then Vemund rushed in from the front door just a few seconds after the guy escaped out the backdoor; Vemund asked, “What’s wrong?!  I heard some noises from outside and rushed in.  I didn’t think anything about it first, because I thought Annett was just moving the furniture again.”

“See?” I pointed at Vemund after he spoke; I then said in a bit of frustration.  “It isn’t just mother who moves the furniture around… and forgets to tell you and you bump into it at night.”

Asvord then said, “Jarl decided to have a fight with the furniture and it looks like he lost.”

“Very funny,” I replied as I bent over trying to catch my breath plus regain the feeling in my face.

Now Asvord realizing what happened looked at my face.  She said I was fine.

“I got to go after him,” I said.

Vemund grabbed my arm, “He is probably long gone by now, we need to make sure you are alright.”

“Yes, I’ll get something for cut above your eye near your temple,” Annett said as she rushed off to the kitchen.

“Did you have a fight with someone?” asked Vemund.

A little irritated that everybody seems to not get that I just had a fight with someone I said, “Like the girl said, I had a fight with the chair and I lost.”

Taking a moment to rest and realized I was a little hasty in my comment that I took the opportunity now to correct it, “Sorry, just as little upset about letting the guy get the best of me.  I heard a creak downstairs while going up to Annett’s room, they called down to me as they heard me to get a book off Annett’s desk… Ow!”

Annett rubbed on some medical herbs that stung worse than a Fireworm’s bite… Though I do not know what that feels like, all I know is these medical herbs stink like nothing else.

“Oh you’re fine,” Annett said.  “The sting means it’s working.”

“How come all women say that when they are tending a wound, ‘Oh the sting means it is working.’?” I replied.  “Anyway… to get a book off Annett’s desk; however, I wanted to use that as an opportunity to get the drop on the sneak.  I pretended like I was reading Annett’s one diary, but I was waiting to get the drop on the intruder.  As you can tell, he did get the best of me as I let my guard down for a second and he pounced.  He tried forcing a knife at my face when I was having the furniture conversation with Asvord, but I spread my arms to use his momentum against him so the knife would lodge in the floor.  This although left me vulnerable as my hands were to my side and the guy then gave me a mean right cross.”

“What book are you talking about?” questioned Elsa who had gone over to Annett’s desk.

“The one I had the other night,” I replied.

“I don’t see it here,” she said.

I could not believe my ears, “What do you mean it isn’t there? I put it right there before I picked up the chair.”

The diary was not on the desk where I put it.

Vemund then suggested, “That guy must have taken it after he punched you.”

“My diary can’t be missing, it has a lot of important information in it,” Annett said alarmed.

I then sighed, “Is it too much to ask that I at least solve something before the next mystery piles onto the rest.  What is this like mystery number five, including the Dragon Eye?”

“We must get my diary back,” Annett asserted.

“We will,” I assured.  “But what’s so important about a diary.”

She answered, “It isn’t just a diary… it has important information on the adventures I recorded in the diary that lead to treasures on graveyard ships and locations of known Dragon Hunters.”

          Elsa echoed, “Dragon Hunters?!”

I then said, “Suppose you start from the beginning, Annett.”

PLOT THICKENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a Signature, and I am Angie.

Hi i'm Angie! You might remember me if you are also a "veteran" lol, I started playing SOD back in early 2014 so I remember the old glitches and I remember when there was just Berk and the main SOD island. I don't play SOD all that often anymore but I won't forget the memories and experiences I had playing it. I don't regularly visit the forum either, I just kinda moved on from that stage of my life lol.

Anyway, heres where you'll find me these days:

I'll be going to a family camp over the weekend/weekstart, so I had other things I needed to get done and wanted to work on before my fan-fic.  But fyi btw, Chapter 10 was only going to be about Annett telling of her adventures, recapping what happened to their family when they got seperated (what you learned in The Clue of the Missing Socks), and a few minior things that will pop up that I might use in the future.  And then I would finish off the day with the part of RTTE Season 1 Episode 2 up until the part where the Academy gang leaves for Glacier Island to find the Snow Wraith.  So you won't miss much, and I apologize for not getting a chapter done for today, I just got busy and needed to get other things done as I would be gone for the holiday and have things next month I need to get ready for.  But, when i come back, I will have Chapter 10 and 11 done; depending on how much I have in free time over the next few days, I may just get 12 as well as 13 done.  I'm in a writing mood, so I'll work on my fan-fic as much as I can, when I'm not doing anything else.

On the Subject of Hackers

please read this link, it helps to identify the different types of hackers. I have hacked computers, and servers in the past (despite not being the best at code) but I never do it for personal gain. Unfortunately the hackers most people refer to on the internet are crackers so they bring a bad light on the hacking community in general. I only learned to hack code because I needed to in order to hack my microwave and other software in my house.

Don't be a Cracker you ruin it for everyone!
