Eurus | Air Envoy
Eurus woke up to the feeling of water droplets gently dripping onto his nose. He looked up to see a web of dark brown branches hanging above him, each weighed down by a thin layer of snow that he could not observe from their underside. Another drop landed on his face, knocking sense into him as he realized how chilly his skin felt. The envoy immediately brought a hand up to wipe away the water and warm his face up, flipping over a blanket that was covering his body in the process. He looked back down at the part of his torso that was now exposed to the cold too, unable to recall having the blanket on him the previous night.
Well, I can take a guess as to who left it here, he thought as he breathed hot air into his hand, watching the moisture from his breath escape through a gap between his fingers, condense, and momentarily form wispy clouds.
The young man imagined his mother scolding him the next time she saw him, saying something along the lines of, “You may be blessed by a god, but that doesn’t make you any less susceptible to cold. Good grief, how can I not worry about you while you’re gone?”
Eurus smiled to himself as he stood up. Today was the day he and the other envoys would embark on a search for the missing Air Envoy, his successor. He picked up the fuzzy blanket, folding it neatly and holding it in one arm as he began making his way back to town. All around him on the ground was a blanket of white with few breaks of green. His every step made a crunching sound as he left impressions in the frost layered over the grass. Soon, he had left the company of the trees and found himself in the bustling streets of the capital. Most of the people were up and going about their day, giving nods of respect and greetings as they passed him. Eurus smiled back at the people and gave a casual wave every now and then to the few he knew better.
He stopped in front one of the houses and entered, glad to finally be out of the cold. Immediately, he could smell something good cooking in the air as he closed the door behind him. But before he could make his way towards the kitchen, he heard rapidly approaching footsteps from another room and soon after, his father emerged.
“Son, you’re here!” Eurus’s father wrapped his burly arms around the envoy and squeezed him tightly in a brief embrace.
The young man returned a fierce hug, “Of course, I gotta say my goodbyes before I go, or else what kind of son would I be?”
The older man gave a hearty laugh and released the younger from the embrace, “Well let’s go see your mother, shall we?”
The two made their way to the kitchen where the envoy’s mother was putting the last of the food on the table. When put side to side with the two men, she was considerably shorter and more slender but her hair was just as rich in color as her son’s. Eurus placed the blanket on an empty spot on a counter as they sat down.
“I was getting worried that you wouldn’t wake up in time, Cyrus. Had you gotten here any later, I would be convinced that the other Envoys would leave without you,” Eurus’s mother chided the young man and pulled on his ear to which he winced but held in a protest, “Now eat up. You can’t start your journey on an empty stomach.”
The family settled down and enjoyed breakfast together, talking about plans for the day, reminiscing about the past, and wishing Eurus the best on his journey. At some point of time, Eurus’s mother gave him another scolding after noticing the blanket on the counter.
Before long, the plates were empty and Eurus was ready to leave. The three of them stood at the door, Eurus’s parents reiterating their love for him.
Just as the Air Envoy was about to leave on his way, his mother raised a question, “Just a moment, did you pack socks yesterday?”
“Err..” he scratched the back of his head as he thought back to the previous day, though he knew they definitely weren’t on his mind while packing.
However, he wasn’t given the chance to answer as she left and returned in a hurry, bringing clean socks.
“Take them along,” she insisted, shoving them into Eurus’s clutches, “And have a safe journey.”
“Do us proud, Cyrus,” his father chimed in, “We’ll have a proper celebration for the end of your service as Envoy once you’re back. You better look forward to it!”
“Thanks,” the young man replied, “I’ll be back in a flash with the new kid.”
The trio got together into one last hug. After letting go, Eurus gave a wave after stepping back out into the street. He made his way to the main gate of the capital, located on the east side of the town, where the Envoys agreed to meet before they would start their journey. The sun was high up in the sky, working on melting the snow again and bringing warmth and light to the land. They had agreed to meet at noon, and lucky for Eurus, he was several minutes early. He made his way down a street on a slope, spotting several boars already waiting, their luggage for the trip secured to their backs.
Eurus went over to the boars and patted one on the head, “Are you excited for today?”
The boar simply let out a grunt.
“Too bad I can’t understand you like Silva does,” he replied before turning his attention to the socks he was carrying in his hand. He weaved through the boars to find his bag of personal belongings and stuffed them in, “Now let’s see where the others are at.”

Ignis, Fire Envoy

Ignis grabbed her bag and slipped it on her shoulders. Another day, but this one was special. She patted her pet fox, Fireswirl as he chirped and got on her shoulder. "Alright, just until we meet the rest of the Envoys, THEN you have to leave, got it?" Fireswirl was always a mysterious fox, sometimes not even listening to her instructions. But this time, Fireswirl nodded like he understood. "Good." Ignis said quickly. She yelled a goodbye to her mother, since her dad was away on important kingdom business. Ignis did NOT want to be the last one present among the Envoys. She was the least experienced, and definately wanted to keep making a good impression. Ignis grabbed her lightweight sword on her way out and expertly strapped it on her back. She made her way to the Grove of trees and kept running, her bag thumping on her back. Running in the woods was simple for her, she'd been doing it for as long as she could remember. Fireswirl squeaked in surprise and latched his claws on her shoulder sleeve. "I know buddy, but I don't want to be late!" She yelled. She ran into the capital quickly, not worried about the guards complaining about Fireswirl

Venatrix

Venatrix sat by the edge of the river, her legs crossed and her eyes closed. Deep in meditation, orbs of water rotated around her, calmly joining and separating. Her thoughts were as deep and imperceptible as the depths of the ocean, like the god she embodied. Suddenly, something jarred her back to reality. The spheres around her froze into jagged spikes and fell to the ground, shattering around her. She whirled around, ice curling around her fingers. "Whoa, hey, chill!" A voice called out. Her aqua blue eyes fixed on Felix, one of the young men from the village.

"Can I help you?" She asked coolly, letting the power fade from her hands.

"I... Your parents were looking for you. They were worried that you'd left without seeing them."

Venatrix sighed. After everything, her parents still didn't entirely trust her. And they weren't entirely on board with her leaving. But she at least would've said goodbye.

"Good to know. Tell them I'll be there shortly." She brushed frost off of her knees and swept the ice shards into the river with a flick of her hand. Felix nodded and hurried off towards the village. Venatrix looked off towards the river one last time, then headed back as well, moving almost silently along the path. She wasn't super close with any of the other envoys, but she supposed that the journey might forced that. Deep in thought, she was at her parent's house before she realized it. She sighed, and then knocked, stepping in.

"Mother? Father?" Her mother was sitting at the table, head in ger hands. She looked up and looked like she was about to launch into a lecture. "I don't have much time Mama, i just wanted to say bye." She cut in, stepping forwards and giving her a hug.

"I- you- just stay safe." Her mom choked out.

"Of course." She let go when her father entered the room. She quickly gave him a hug, then ducked out of the room before her parents could get too emotional. She swung by her own house, grabbing the bag she'd backed earlier that morning. She carefully strapped on her swords and put on her chainmail shirt and metal bracers. Over that, she put a thick black overcoat. While she didn't easily get cold, it would conceal the fact she was prepared for battle. Then she headed to the meeting spot for the other envoys.

Ignis, Fire Envoy

Ignis rested her back on the wall next to the main gate. She played with her fire, letting it jump in and out of her finger-tips. Fireswirl curled around her neck like a scarf and fell asleep. Ignis finished her linking charm and gently tapped it on Fireswirl's little swirl on her forehead. "There. Now we are connected." Ignis said softly. Fireswirl purred and yawned, still resting. Ignis sighed and waited for the other envoys to arrive

Eurus looked up as he heard a voice similar to that of the Fire Envoy. Though his hearing wasn’t as sharp as it used to be, he could tell one way or another Ignis was making her way over. The blue haired envoy continued to check over the baggages, making sure everything was secured onto the boars while he waited. Soon enough he spotted her by the gate waiting.
“Hey Ignis,” he called over to her, “How has your morning been?”

"Pretty fair. Fireswirl's being needy again so i had to bring him with me." Ignis said. Fireswirl let outa yelp of what sounded like a mix of anger and pride. Ignis patted her pet's head. "Alright, Fireswirl, get down." Ignis stretched out her arm so the fox could leap down from it. "How's things going for you?" She asked Eurus, ruffling her fox's fur

Eurus chuckled, enjoying the interaction between the younger envoy and her companion, Fireswirl. Ruffling the fox’s fur, Ignis asked him how things were going for him.
“I just said goodbye to my parents,” he told Ignis, “I get the feeling they really didn’t want me to go, but they still supported me.”
While he had been gone from home quite a lot to do his duties during his time as an Envoy, he never really had to leave the Kingdom’s territory or go on a journey as long and far as the current one.
“They might be worried since we’re going deep into uncharted territories, but we’re all young and strong,” Eurus said with a smile radiating optimism, “We’ll make it back in one piece and celebrate a successful operation.”

"We can do this. I kinda just shouted my goodbyes, i thought i'd be late." Ignis laughed. Fireswirl snorted at Ignis, since she stopped petting him. Ignis scratched Fireswirl under his chin. "Alright, buddy, i told you you could come till i got to the Envoys, you know the way back by now, so go on..." Ignis holds out the charm. "We'll stay in touch." She promised at Fireswirl's bent ears. Ignis gently pushed Fireswirl through the gate and the young fox darted off. Ignis waved goodbye and turned back to Eurus.

Venatrix strolled up, nodding in greeting at the other two envoys. "Eurus, Ignis. I trust all is well. Has Silva arrived yet?" She asked. She tucked her long braid behind her shoulder as she looked between the two. Hopefully they hadn't been waiting long, she would've hated to be late. But it seemed like she at least wasn't the last one there.

Eurus | Air Envoy
Ignis mentioned how she briefly said goodbye to her parents and then ushered Fireswirl along to go back home. Eurus sympathized with both sides. On the one hand, the unknown could bring all sorts of danger. There was no hint as to whether there would be a reliable food source in the uncharted territories beyond the Kingdom. Bringing pets or the likes along would be the equivalent of risking their lives. On the other hand, for two companions to grow up together and form a tight bond, it would be painful to be separated for an extended period of time.
He waited til Ignis was done saying goodbye to the fox before giving the option, “To be fair, we aren’t on a strict schedule so you could technically rush back to say goodbye to your parents. Well, at least I haven’t seen Venatrix or Silva yet.”
With that statement, Eurus decided to give a look around, shifting his scarf around as he moved his head to scan their vicinity for either of the two other envoys. The air envoy was wearing heavier clothes (that his parents insisted him to wear before leaving) under his armor to keep him warm and he had to admit, he was feeling quite toasty. But the young warrior would have to see if it hindered his movement beyond simply walking. Just as he was about to return his attention to Ignis, he noticed a vaguely familiar figure in the distance. Upon squinting, Eurus recognized the face to belong to Venatrix, the Water Envoy.
“Scratch that, there’s Venatrix,” he said to Ignis, correcting his previous statement and pointing over in the direction of the other senior envoy so that the Fire Envoy could see her.
As Venatrix approached, she greeted the two of them and asked if they knew Silva’s whereabouts. Eurus returned a polite nod.
“Haven’t seen her on my way here,” he offered, “What about you, Ignis?”

Ignis strapped her linked charm on her sword sheath. Perhaps now that they were linked, they might be able to start working on Fireswirl's fighting form. She snapped out of her train of thought as Eurus asked her if she'd seen Silva. "Oh, no. Not yet." Ignis shook her head. "Hi, Venatrix." Ignis smiled to the water envoy. They may be opposite elements, but that didn't stop her from being friendly to her.

Oh no! It seemed Silva woke late. The little bird who promised to wake her up early was chirping at her madly. She went downstairs wondering why her parents didn't wake her up, and she realized they were not there. They had left a goodbye note on the table. They must've gone to work already. She checked the time, "Oh no oh no oh no!". She was definitely late. She packed the remaining few things she had, ate a quick breakfast, and ran as fast as she could to the meeting spot. Then she slowed down. It was the beginning of spring. The most beautiful season in her opinion. The little baby flowers were growing, and the animals chattering excitedly. And then she remembered why she had rushed in the first place, and started running again. She felt slightly guilty not being able to saying goodbye to her parents, but she couldn't worry about that now. She had to worry about being left behind. She saw that the 3 other envoys were already there and waiting. She stopped infront of them, breathless. "Sorry, *pant* I *pant* woke up late! I came as quick as I could," she said, trying to catch her breath. She patted the boars, ignoring there grunts of laughter.

"Hello Ignis, is your fox... Fireswirl was it? Coming with us?" She'd hardly ever seen the younger envoy without her companion, so the thought of the two of them apart seemed odd. Besides, the little creature was amusing. And while she probably wouldn't say it outloud, absolutely adorable. Venatrix rested her shoulder against a nearby tree, leaning against it as she examined her companions. Eurus seemed well armored and prepared. Good, he'd had the same train of thought at her. This journey certainly wasn't safe. And while elemental powers were infinitely useful, their human bodies could only take so much damage. So protection never hurt. She looked up as she saw Silva running up, looking slightly panicked.

"It's ok, I haven't been here long either." Venatrix gave her a reassuring smile. "And we wouldn't have left you behind. I trust you didn't have any problems getting ready?"

Ignis replied saying she hadn’t seen Silva and initiated conversation with Venatrix. Eurus decided to scan his surroundings again for Silva. It wasn’t long before he spotted lavender hair bobbing up and down in the crowd. The Earth Envoy breathlessly came to a stop as she reached the gate, apologizing for arriving late.
“Don’t sweat it,” Eurus replied, agreeing with Venatrix, “We all arrived not too long ago. Take a moment to catch your breath. Then we can get going.”

God, why was she always late? They greeted her with 'it's ok' and 'We just came'. "So you haven't been waiting for long?" She asked, cheering up slightly. Hearing her stomache grumble, she regretted not eating a good breakfast. She was glad to know they wouldn't leave her behind though. Continuing to pat the boars, she strapped her bag onto their backs.

Venatrix shook her head. "Trying to get through my parents certainly didn't help my timeliness. Did you get everything that you needed?" The poor girl looked somewhat frazzled, and Venatrix didn't want her to get down the road and realize that she'd forgotten something important. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, then adjusted her sword belt. "It'll probably be a long trip, and a few extra minutes here won't hurt anything." She added.

Likewise, I'm learning how to get him a fighting form." Ignis remembered the countless hours she'd spent studying and practicing. "Hopefully soon he'll achieve one." Venatrix nodded. "Smart plan. How exactly did you set up the link? And connect it to a charm? Is it specifically fire related? And could it work between people? Or at the very least envoys?" It would be useful to have some form of communication between the envoys if they were seperated. Besides, Vantrix would never say no to discovering more uses for her powers. Enchanting objects had never occurred to her before, though she'd certainly enhansed her weapons. That was only coating them though, not directing another use. Ignis was certainly quite innovative for being able to develop a link between her and her fox.

Eurus nodded in response to Silva’s question, reaffirming that they hadn’t waited for long. Venatrix then asked if the Earth Envoy got everything she needed and Eurus realized he probably sounded like he was in a hurry in his earlier statement that they could leave as soon as Silva was ready.
“Right, that goes for you guys too,” Eurus chimed in to tell Ignis and Venatrix, “Make sure you haven’t forgotten anything since it’s going to be a long trip.”
As he reminded himself of the long journey ahead, he also recalled the temporary link that existed between him and the new air envoy that allowed him to know the general direction and distance of the new Envoy. The end of the link felt fuzzy and remote, unchanged from when the link first formed towards the end of his cleansing ceremony before he interrupted it. It was a feature in all Envoy successions that allowed the people to find the new envoy effectively so Eurus was on the lookout for it. But when the link formed and didn’t match what past envoys described the link to feel like, he acted quick to stop the ceremony before the link would disappear. So for now, it remained suspended.
Just what is the reason for this? he thought to himself, Alesis, what is it that you trying to tell us?

"I had to embody some of my fire in the charm and some of Fireswirl's magic. It wasnt too hard, once i was focused enough." Ignis said happily. Now she would be able to communicate with her fox. The air around her turned slightly hotter as her power to bend temperature started working.

She gave him a reassuring smile. "I'm good, I packed the night before even. The only thing I might not have enough of is rations. I have no idea what kind of a situation we'll be dealing with when it comes to getting food, so I didn't pack a whole lot. Food's heavy." She smile turned into a wry grin. When Eurus asked if we had everything, Silva instantly reached for her back. "Oh thank Mydos, I didn't forget my bow," she said. She must've put it on her back by habbit, without even noticing. She had heard Ignis say something about a connection with Fireswirl. That sounded interesting. And then Venatrix literally read her mind and asked if that was possible between humans, more specifically envoys. When Ignis said it by using her fire, and Fireswirl's magic, she thought that it could be possible between envoys. "If you need magic on both ends, then maybe we can do it. Since all of us do have magic," She thought out loud, more to herself than the others. That would be very useful. But maybe they should better start moving, after checking everything, and think about it later

"Well, i guess ill have to figure that out later..." Ignis stated. Ignis nodded to the others. "I have everything i need. Sword and all." Ignis said, glad she hadnt forgetten anything important.

Venatrix and Silva both confirmed that they weren’t missing anything. The former pointed out food might be the only thing they would be low on, which Eurus agreed was a concern. But he knew while they were in home territory, food would not be a problem. Entering the Wilderlands will be when the first sense of uncertainty will arise. However, the land always looked full of life from the times he had gone on border patrol so the young warrior wasn’t too concerned about the first half of their travels.
“Yeah, we’ll just have to be cautious later on and make sure we can secure a source of food and water,” he replied.
The conversation then pivoted to Ignis and Fireswirl’s connection. Eurus was also curious about it as it was a mechanism he hadn’t seen before. Perhaps it worked similarly to the link he felt between him and the new envoy? Silva then offered a possible method of recreating such a link between the envoys.
“Interesting idea,” Eurus replied to Venatrix and Silva’s idea, “If we can make something like that work, it should prove useful if we ever end up split up. Though…”
At that moment, Ignis confirmed the possibility of exploring the new idea but that she was still working on achieving a fighting form for Fireswirl. The Air Envoy held in a laugh as he imagined the Fire Envoy’s mention of Fireswirl chasing after a hostile menacingly. That would be quite the sight, he thought.
Finally Ignis confirmed that she hadn’t forgotten to bring anything.
“Alright then,” Eurus announced, “We should head off then. But first allow me to reiterate our mission.
“Our goal here is to find and bring back the new Air Envoy that has appeared far outside our Kingdom’s land. The speculated destination is the Distant Kingdom, far south west of us. We must cross the Wilderlands and then the storm wall that protects the Distant Kingdom.
“We do not know what adversities we will face so we must always act with caution and safety in mind. If the connection mechanism between Ignis and Fireswirl is something we can recreate between us envoys, we can work on that on the way to the Distant Kingdom. For now, I’d like to make as much distance as possible before it gets dark. I declare this the start of Operation Stormbreach!”

With the operation officially commenced, Eurus untethered the boars’ leashes from their posts and handed one to each of the other Envoys and held two himself. Man, I’ve always wanted to say that, the envoy thought to himself, basking in the glory of briefing for an important mission. That was nerve wracking but great.
The Air Envoy took the lead exiting the gate. Behind the group, he could hear the people wishing them good luck and safety on their journey. Though more lax than alert, Eurus led the way in silence down a well trodden road where the snow had been mostly turned to mush and the ground was visible through the mud and snow. He still kept his senses trained for anything suspicious as that was how he trained to act on important missions. As they walked, the senior envoy ran the route they would take through his head. The path they were taking was a main road that led down the mountainside and all the way towards the coast, sometimes branching out towards nearby towns. Halfway along the way, there would be a road that leads south towards the Wilderlands that they would switch to, though that road would quickly grow less developed as less people lived and traveled in that part of the kingdom. It would ultimately transition into navigating through the forest without any roads to guide them.
It wasn’t before long that the capital was no longer visible behind trees, rocks, and snow.
“Careful. This part is steep,” Eurus warned as they came upon a set of steep stairs partway through their descent down the mountain.
He surveyed the conditions on the side of the stairs and concluded it would be safer to lead the boars down the stairs where there was stable ground for the boars to step on. Eurus cleared away the snow on the stairs with a gust of wind to give the boars better grip on the ground. He slowly led his two boars down, one by one, ready to catch them with air manipulation at any moment. Luckily, there was no slip as both his boar reached the bottom of the stairs. He waited at the bottom a little ways from the stairs to give room for the others to descend.

((btw, if you want to suggest things to do on the journey, obstacles, etc, you can let everyone know on the OOC thread. so I suggest you guys to track it for any future conversation))

Venatrix took the rear, in case of an attack. Or if someone was struggling, though she doubted it. They were all envoys and so capable of walking along a mountain. She paused at the stairs, looking dubiously at her boar. This should be interesting... She focused, clearing the stairs of snow or ice that could cause anyone to slip.

Ignis was offically on alert.

She had one hand on the boar and one hand on her sword handle, ready to draw it at any time. Her fist was clentched around it, ready to send out a burst of flames if she had to. She wasnt afraid to use it, but tried to limit her power usage...for obvious reasons. She kept her thoughts on Fireswirl though, focusing on what and how she could achieve his fighting form. She actually had a book with her on that, in her bag if they set up camp and she had a chance to read, she'd work on trying to make the connection easy for him to turn. She nodded to herself and kept her pace with the others.

Venatrix cleared the stairs of snow and ice to prevent any slips.
“Nice Venatrix,” Eurus said in thanks to the envoy.
As he was at the bottom of the stairs, he offered to the rest, “I can catch anything or anyone that falls so don't worry.”

“Hm, I’d say at least halfway through the kingdom since we left at noon,” Eurus replied. “And the following day we should be able to cross the southern border and make our way into the Wilderlands before dark.”
As Venatrix reached the bottom of the stairs, bringing up the rear, the Air Envoy began moving forward again, “Though I hope you guys don’t mind I already have a certain tavern in mind for tonight’s stay. I know this is our foremost priority, but there’s a little work I would like us to get done while we’re still here.”

She raised her eyebrow at his comment. "I don't like the combination of tavern and doing work. I swear, if this leads to another bar fight..." She shook her head. Maybe it would be fine and routine work. Or maybe he wanted them to solve a crime ring or something dramatic. She never could tell with him.

"Even if it does, we can handle it." Ignis said, showing a hidden pouch in her sword sheath she'd worked on since they last saw each other. Concealed in there quite perfect was a dagger for when she lost her sword in battle. "Just gotta draw this and flicker some fire and they'll back off." She said confidently

Eurus laughed heartily upon hearing the other envoys’ responses. As people blessed with power, it was their duty to use their gifted powers to help and protect the people. And sometimes, that results in some less fun business and sometimes a quick resolution.
“Well there’s nothing wrong with the tavern itself. Rather, that’s where the victims are staying so we’ll be getting some initial information from there,” he started, “You see, I caught wind of some strange fires happening recently. There were houses burning down unnaturally in this one area we happen to be passing by. While the fires can be extinguished effectively by the locals, it seemed uncanny for it to happen every day in the last couple of days.”
The Air Envoy moved closer to one side of the road as a horse drawing a carriage passed next to them going the other direction. “Now the interesting part is that when the locals went to investigate the ruins, there were no signs of arson in there. Either there is an arson doing something malicious and is able to cover their tracks very well, or there’s something else going on here.”

"Fire huh?" Ignis commented. She was the envoy to go to about fire, so...."Maybe it isn't an arson, I mean covering the tracks of starting a fire is hard, you have to be swift and careful, even the smallest mistake can get you caught." Ignis mused. Arsons were generally throughal though...

“Yeah that is true. But it’s hard to say as we haven’t seen the damages with our own eyes yet. But based on the pattern of it being a nightly occurrence, we should be able to expect it to occur again tonight,” Eurus replied. “We should be able to witness it happen first hand and catch the culprit off guard or get leads on what is going on.”

She tilted her head curiously. Now that was far more interesting. Catching an arson would be fun.

"What if the arson doesn't show up?" She asked. "Do we stay and solve the mystery? Or just set up protection and leave?"

She had no idea how much of a time crunch they were on, especially if they stopped to help people every night. Not that she minded, but she also needed to make sure that they didn't get side tracked at the detriment of the mission.

Eurus thought about Venatrix’s questions. On the one hand, it felt wrong to leave something half done. On the other, in the long run, the envoys would be gone for an extended period of time. The people would have to solve difficult problems on their own. And from his 22 years of life, he believed in the people to be capable to take care of themselves.
“Unless the situation proves to be very dangerous to the people, I think we should only stay one night and set up protection in the morning if we fail to solve this case,” Eurus said, “Besides, if we are going to be gone for a while, we should be able to trust the people to protect themselves. We Vakorians are strong, with elemental powers or not. I believe in our brothers and sisters. Don’t you?”

Ignis nodded. "They've survived this long, I'm sure they can keep going on even after we leave." Ignis couldn't help but feel slightly suspicious about the fires. This didn't sound like the work of the goddess she represented...right?

She nodded in agreement. "A sentiment that I think we all share. I just wanted to make sure that we were all on the same page before we were in the situation." She continued along, carefully picking her way along the path. "Any suspicions thus far? It's probably just some criminal, but I suppose that it could also be something a little more supernatural."

“Something more supernatural..” Eurus mused.
He knew there were old stories of other gods from the lands across the sea. And he knew the stories of fabled beasts that terrorized Vakorian lands until the mighty king Vakorus himself banished them from the lands. But those were just tales right? Something to garner the attention and interest of children and make them behave right?
Back before Eurus became an envoy and his parents were given the opportunity to move to the capital, his family lived near the southern border working the fields and keeping a few tame animals. As the little carefree daredevil he was, Eurus would venture past the border to see for himself if the beasts from the tales existed. Sadly none of his endeavors were fruitful as he only saw horses and other grass grazing animals. No frightening dragons lurking in the shadows. No foxes with multiple tails like the goddess of the earth. Perhaps they were all long gone, seriously chased out by the first king Vakorus as stated by the stories.
And since the kingdom was in a time of peace now, they rarely had to deal with odd or dangerous cases. But despite that, the envoys had run into supernatural things before so it wasn’t like the Air Envoy didn’t believe in the supernatural at all. Eurus wracked his brain.
“Maybe there was a new source of fire underground? Sort of like the volcanoes farther up north in the Astral Spines,” he offered, “Or some sort of upset spirit like that one time we had to deal with that moody water spirit that was dirtying the water.”

"Yea I got wet WAY too much during that." Ignis never liked getting wet, on account of her fire magic. She shook her head. "But if it's a fire spirit, I'll be wayyyy more comfortable with teaching it a lesson." Ignis said boldly

“Right? I got drenched to the point I thought I could have been the next water envoy,” Eurus joked, “Now, water’s one thing. Let’s not get burnt to a crisp if it turns out there is a fire spirit.”

While the joke was to keep things lighthearted, he did know how dangerous water could be. It was thanks to the quick and smart work of the envoys, especially Venatrix, that they avoided any real perils.

"I'll try to make sure no fire hits its mark if that's the case." Ignis promises. But deep inside, she wasn't so sure. She hardly had a good grasp of her magic...what if she did something wrong and the fire spread instead of stopped? She'd hurt innocent lives! Ignis took a few deep breaths and sighed. No, that wouldn't happen.

Ignis promised to prevent any fires from reaching their targets in the potential scenario. Eurus looked back when he heard her breathing deeply followed by a sigh. *Is she trying to calm herself?* he thought to himself, as deep breaths was one method he used to calm his nerves before tense situations. *Well regardless, I should give her some reassurance.*
He smiled kindly at the Fire Envoy and gave her a thumbs up, “You’ve got all our trust and support. Right guys?”

"Don't worry, even if the fire does get a bit out on control, I can keep things from escalating. I don't think we'll need to though." She gives the younger envoy a reassuring look as they continue along.

“I can help with that too,” Eurus added on, “Not fanning the flames and all that.”
He shifted his grip on the leads he held. It wouldn’t be before long that they would reach level ground once again. He was looking forward to that so that the boars had less of a chance of slipping and resulting in injury.

The other envoys were talking about a tavern, and then the conversation suddenly turned to fire. Silva didn't say anything, in deep thought about what would happen next (hopefully no violent fire is involved though). Would they face anything life threatening? Or would they manage to find the new air envoy without much trouble? After processing everything the others were talking about, she finally said, "A tavern would be nice". She tried not to seem distracted, but failed miserably.

With team morale up, the envoys continued their trek down the mountain and eastward. The trip was uneventful as they continued eastward. They passed by various other travelers, many of them wishing them well on their journey. Occasionally, Eurus spotted some small animals that had gone for the winter returning and pointed them out to the other Envoys. As the afternoon went by, the group turned off the eastbound road and headed south toward the border. It wasn’t before long the sun’s rays no longer shone directly on the land and the sky started turning dark in shades of blue and purple, engulfing the transient hues of pink and gold that hovered over the Astral Spines. Soon after, the moon came peeking from behind the clouds, exactly one-half lit up and one-half shrouded in darkness.
Once dark, the road became lit up by lanterns. Delicately surrounded by glass, tiny balls of fire hovered on both sides of the road, leading two parallel lines into the distance in front and behind the traveling group. The lanterns, developed by a fire envoy long ago, have proven to be greatly useful to the general population. Incredibly, very few changes have been incorporated since their initial creation. Eurus stayed on the lookout for indication of the tavern he had reserved for the night. Soon enough, he spotted a sign on the side of the road that read the tavern’s name.
“There we go,” the air envoy said, guiding his two boars down the path that emerged from the main road.
He was glad that they would finally be able to grab some food and take a good break. After trudging through a bit of snow, the inn came into sight. Its windows glowed gold in contrast to the darkness outside, beckoning the travelers into its warm and bright embrace.
“Ahh, finally time for dinner,” Eurus happily exhaled while stretching, his two leashes dangling from his outstretched hands, “Let’s first go get our rooms and stalls for the boars.”
Once done stretching Eurus began to remove the bags from his two boars' backs. When he was close to done, a young boy and girl came running up to them.
“Are you here to check in?” the boy asked.
The envoy looked away from the bags and at the source of the chipper voices. The two of them were wrapped in bundles of clothes, their noses and cheeks pink from extended time out in the cold. It wasn’t uncommon for children to help their parents out with their work so if he had to guess, these two were children of the tavern owner.
He nodded in response, “Yes, the four of us and five boars.”
“Great!” the girl piped in, “You can warm yourselves up inside and check in on the left once you enter. We can take your boars to the stables.”
“Thank you,” Eurus said as he swung the last bag over his shoulder and handed the reigns to of his two boars to the stable girl.
The stable boy then went up to the other envoys, asking for the boars’ leads, “I’ll take your boars to the stables. It’ll be suuuuper warm and toasty and there’ll plenty of hay! I promise they’ll be happy!”

((No worries, glad to have you back. Hope your exam went well!))

Ignis undid her braid and redid it so it look nice and neat after the rough trip. She undid the charm on the sword sheath and attached it to her wrist like a bracelet. She pictured Fireswirl and sent up a link message with him. Fireswirl, buddy its me. She heard a thin bark at the end and smiled, pumping her fist in the air. It worked, it REALLY worked! The temperature around her skyrocketed as she smiled victoriously
