Character Gender Change?
Hi, does anyone know if you can change your characters gender in-game somehow?
I made my account 4 years ago and last year realized i was trans and now go as a boy, thus i sort of feel disconnected and uncomfortable playing my character now and i have a mask equipped to hide their face now lol
if there's not an option for this then is there any other workaround to this that ya'll may know? if not that's fine and thanks in advanced.
Unfortunately, there isn't to my knowledge, though, if they did, it would either be very costly and with Gems and/or it would bring big controversies in spite of being a highly requested suggestion among players.
Because here, you ARE male or female, and you cannot change that. It's just people not understanding trans/genderfluid/other people like us exsist and refusing to admit they're wrong. People don't like people who identify as somethig they don't, so they bash them, etc. +H.o.m.o.p.h.o.b.i.c./trans.phobic people exist, and I know there could well be a ton of them here.
yeah, but it would make some people who are against us 'feel uncomfterable' or something and so we are shoved under the bridge, out of sight. And although it wouldn't really affect anyone, the devs make it so our characs must be cisgendered, which is annoying to me, a pan/agendered human.
The problem is that it would make the game very... confusing. In the game girls and guys have seperate clothing models. If this were the case, each gender would need their own clothing and hair design. I read somewhere that there are 63 genders and each gender would need their own clothing style to accurately represent their sexuality, that is just a huge work load for the animators. Not to mention how confusing it would be in the game. Some of the female hair styles are pretty androgynous so I guess you could use that, but the clothing is typically form-fitting and shows some of the curves. All in all, if we included one extra gender, the rest of the spectrum wouod need to be included as would well to make it fair and that is far too complicated and too much of a work load.
So, to clarify, there are a lot of genders, but we only really need three models- a male, female, and androgenous. Most genders that aren't male or female are fine being grouped in 'non-binary'. And we - or at least I - would be fine with a male model with more hairstyles.
Yes, trans and genderfluid people exist and it is proven by science that it's a birth condition. It has always existed, always will and people being born as trans or genderfluid are born through mere chance, and there is nothing people can do about that. You cannot choose whether or not you are; if you suppress it or try to live as another gender you will feel instinctively very unhappy deep down. It's a set thing, you've got it for life and it's impossible to change your mental gender. It's not a disease or mental illness; it's just where the foetus receives the wrong proportions of hormones during the first trimester, but otherwise trans and genderfluid people function like normal everyday human beings.
If you can "become" or "unbecome" trans then you were not trans to begin with. I think the term "identifying as trans" should not be a thing. That's not how it works. You don't get to choose whether you're trans, and it's deeply shameful to think that DreamWorks are ignoring basic science to keep any controversy off the table. They can make fart and poop jokes, but disrespecting their customers' basic needs in favour of more money? Yeh!
Unfortunately I don't think DreamWorks want to spark any sort of controversy, but Roblox did it, and nobody seems to have a problem with that. They are fully capable of just switching the player models as soon as you customise it.
Unfortunately, there is no way to change your avatar's gender, but this does not mean your avatar has to represent you. I have plenty of male avatars, even though I am female. Maybe your in-game avatar is not a representation of you and is just a character. Someone else. Thinking about it this way may help reduce the dysphoria.
This is a good bit of advice. I have a male viking alongside my two female vikings myself.
Another thing they could do is to turn it into a running gag. Like maybe the viking is a dude but because they happen to look like a girl EVERYONE including Hiccup's gang makes the mistake of calling them a girl and they get super mad about it.
A third option could be interesting. RP the problem. Turn it into a character who is trans but who can't get a surgery because they live in viking times so instead they have to figure out their own ways to be a boy and not all vikings around them respect that and some make honist mistakes calling him a female just like some people s.crew up in real life. Some trans-phobic RPs might kick the character for this but it could prove really interesting.
Well, if you want to try your hand at RPing, I have a RP, found here, which is fine with you playing a trans character.
We need to bring this feature to the game any way we can. Good luck!
Glad to help. And hey, even if it's just a personal RP in your head to reconect with this charicter it's done its job.
I, surprisingly, actualyl understand what you feel, and while there is no way to change a character's biological apperence, you can just have the character identify as male now as well. I'm really sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I really do think it's something that should be added to the game :D Especially to those who have been around a long time on the game and have come to know who they truly are since when they first started. Options such as those are also something that would set the game apart from others and make it more unique. Until then, if you're not comfortable with the gender of how your viking looks, as others have said, you can always make a new viking or a new account c:
I'm a trans girl and when I first registered I registered as a boy when I didn't realise I was trans, but now whenever I play with my character it's like a weird reminder that I am not physically a woman yet, and I get a tinge of dysphoria from it again. It's really not fun, and I wish there was an option to change my character's gender so I feel more like myself again. Right now this is a minor turn-off from the game, because it reminds me of that feeling I had constantly as a kid where my gut feels like it's swallowing itself.
Oddly enough, I searched up how to change my character's gender. I didn't expect I'd find another trans person, let alone one that was so outspoken. Wow. What an interesting day.
If you want to make your character like a boy, I suggest putting on the Alvin outfit and using the short hairstyle that you get at the beginning of the game.
ah okay- why exactly would there be big controversies? it seems like just a small customizable change, just like changing your name?
