♕ The Reign ~ [The Roleplay Thread] ♕
Denva and Althea exchanged a look, both giggling a bit at the obvious comment from Malik.
"That's because my Uncle on my Dad's side is an Ashreaper who can talk to animals. I mean, none of us have the ability, but animals just seem to know when you care about them. I'm actually able to generate golems myself. Hence all the jewels I wear. I can use pretty much any material to make one. The size varies depending on the material, but I can show you later before we go to the circus if you want! I'm working on using multiple samples to make a golem that can pretty much handle anything! Dad can only use metals of course, and Mom has gemstone manipulation, so that's why I can use more materials." Althea explained, flicking one of the jewels on her lower braids, getting a nice tinkling sound like a wind chime so that the movement made it sparkle.
"We typically go to a restaurant called the Lucky Bird before we go to the circus. We know the owners and they're also golem manipulators. I'm sure they won't mind Althea showing off a little." Oscar Sozen commented, extending the invitation when Olivia noticed the officials.
"I wonder if the royals are going to make an appearance." Olivia mused as the adult Beaumonts exchanged a look.
"We better save any more conversation about abilities for later." Andre Beaumont commented, seeing the officials in their robes of office standing at the front of the room.
Arcana pushed her way through the crowds ignoring the strange looks she was receiving from those she was close to. Oddly enough however, none of the guards seemed to catch on and remained relatively passive.
Having wormed her way into the middle of the crowd, Arcana removed her jacketm exposing her creme under coat and dark brown corset. While she definitely did not blend in, she no longer stuck out in her bright red ring master coat. She even removed her top hat, placing it deftly over the end of her cane. In lining her head, she awaited the announcement
Arcana listened to the cleric's speech with great interest. She had already received word of this little charade from a few of her birdies she had installed at the castle when she first began in her quest to claim her rightful crown. But she hardly believed until the message reached her ears directly. This was her chance to finally sieze the throne! Smirking softly, Arcana glanced around the room.
She had entirely been expecting to have to kill someone. Although, it may still come to that.
Then a blonde noble spoke out, his words rendering the mumbling crowd speechless.
""If you are one that intends to go for the crown, embrace it and make your name known to us!"
The quiet was deafening. Arcana could almost see the decisions churning in the heads of the onlookers. Weighing the options. Entering in the contest painted a massive target on the back of anyone foolish enough to speak out. The other competitors would be brutal. There wouod be many assassination attempts.
But Arcana did not think for long upon this matter.
This was her chance.
This is what she had beeh waiting for ever since the lie her mother revealed.
Casually. Arcana fixed the top hat onto her head, lazily lifting her hand into the air. "Sure thing, love. I do quite enjoy shiny things." She winked at him, wearing a wolfish grin.
The crowd parted around her, all eyes on her. This outsider. Clearly not a part of the royal court. Or with any affiliations towards. This peasant, circus freak of a girl was the first to speak up.
The first to claim the crown.
There was a quick exchange between Denva and Althea that went like a quiet "You do it! No you!" for a few seconds before Althea gave Denva such a shove that made her yelp. She barely got to her feet with a blush on her face as the officials looked her way.
"D-Denva Beaumont of the Ridgestriders. My power is gemstone manipulation. I'd like to try for the throne if I may." Denva told the officials, shooting her cousin a sidelong glare as Althea grinned smugly in response with a look that clearly said "You know I'm no good with politics!" Denva's parents both smiled in pride at their daughter, glad that she was stepping up for this.
Terri wasn't exactly sitting down, he still stood up guarding near the wall, but he like it this way anyway. being up above all the other giving him some sort of power and put him elsewhere to those old fools noble or the peasents. He tried not to make a face when the cleric stepforward. Terri doesn't really like that guy.
"Thank you for coming today." He began. "I'm Elder Rodell, but a humble member of the clergy. I have been chosen to present the bulk of the tidings we have for you, members of the royal palace, or an extension of so.
"I won't patronize you all by dragging this out. We all know we are here because of the unexpected passing of our late Queen,I assure you, these days have been stressful to every one of us. With no royal heir, it has been up to those in high office to come to some sort of conclusion on who will take over the reign of Astrin. As it stands... it will be none of the members standing upon this platform right this moment."
Terri blinked then a sastisfaction smirk slowly spread across his face as he looked at all the people on the platform again, hah, serve them right. Terri can't think about the future in which he'd have to serve any of them.
but then who...
Terri feels something within in shifting, trembling in anticipation. No...No way. What if he's...
Unfortunately for the young royal guard, his hope was shot down, clash and burn within seconds.
"It may be unorthodox, but the entire situation is. There are simply no traditional options, as pained as I am to say it. A new monarch will be found, though it will be through an unconventional method of tests and training. These candidates must prove themselves the most worthy of the throne compared to all others. These scenarios will be overseen by myself and neutral nobility to ensure this competition stays fair and so that Astrin sees a rightful ruler once more.Having been invited based on prowess, everyone in this room is eligible to compete. A variety of members from among all the factions, and with skillsets used by the royal palace for generations, you all have the potential for a ruling. This way, it will ensure a rightful king or queen will rise up amongst the crowd. However, there will of course be limitations and rules we will go into. The main warning is that once you are judged with too many failures during the competition, you are immediately exempt from the running from that point on. More will be disclosed as the tests are prepared in the following days, but remember that this isn't a fun little game. While this is a worthwhile chance, it also puts you at the forefront of scrutiny, in a way many cannot handle, especially for the rest of a lifetime. Choose wisely if you are to participate; for yourself, for those around you, and for the mighty kingdom of Astrin!"
No no no no, like them!?
Terri turned to look at the occupant in the room again.
He'd have...if any of them, he'd---
"This is Outrageous!" The young guard snapped, doesn't care if anyone has heard him. Regardless if any are, Rodell, one of the nobles stepped up and pressed on anyway. Oh screw that guy! "If you are one that intends to go for the crown, embrace it and make your name known to us!"
"Are you all insane!? You'd let the future of Astrin in any of these people hand!?" He paused then comedically gwarking at Arcana, finally noticing her after all this time "These---outsider? That woman isn't even part of the court! Surely there are better candidates you can pre-select than letting anyone in for the throne! if anyone is worth taking over that will be--
"That will be me"
A voice suddenly spoke as a snow white clad form stood up, he's been sitting near the door. He looked at Rodell, coldly.
"I, Ishmael Dawn, Son of Ismelda Dawn, The Seamstress of Wispweaver and the illegitimate child of the king, shall fight for his late father throne" He spat at the word illegitimate "Well? In my humble opinion, I'd make a good cadidate if you care so much about any blood taking over the throne don't you think?"
Pearl listens carefully, then looks around. 'So anyone could become the next ruler?' she thinks.
Terra watches multiple people stand up. She frowns slightly as a thought crosses her mind. 'What if I tried for the crown?' She shakes her head. 'I wouldn't stand a chance. Besides, I don't really want to rule anyone..' she thinks.
(I'll try to think of a way to get at least Terra to stand up, but just in case... would it be terrible if neither of my characters end up participating?)
Arcana was not too suprised. After she voiced her claim to the throne, the floodgates opened, prompting more and more people to stake their claim. She wasn't much bothered by it, merely smirking good-naturedly as more and more bodies joined her at the front. Including Denva, suprisingly enough. Who also announced her magic powers to the entire court. The foolish, naive girl.
Arcana offered the girl a small smile, konowing that she would be shocked to see the circus performer there.
More people began to join them, each one exceedingly less qualified than the next.
"These---outsider?" Some male objected loudly, thrusting a finger at her. "That woman isn't even part of the court! Surely there are better candidates you can pre-select than letting anyone in for the throne! if anyone is worth taking over that will be--"
Before Arcana could voice her reasoning, another person stood forth.
"That would be me."
Her eyes instantly narrowed at the dark0haired male that took a step up from the crowd.
Arcana's eyes narrowed, an anger bubbling beneath her blood. This emotion seemed to only be exacerbated by excruiating pain that rippled around her arm, burning through her eyes. Aztec was getting antsy, and the monsterous creature's irriation was beginning to bleed through into her psyche. Anyone with a keen enough eye would have seen Arcana's pupil turn to slits. But only briefly.
She had never heard of this person before... this person who would be her half brother. Who by gender alone, would hold more claim to the crown then she. It infuriated her. He was a threat that had to be eliminated.
Arcana resolved to bite her tongue on this one. She would not reveal her heritage. Not yet. Not unless forced to.
""Perhaps some will think so." Rodell nodded. "But if your blood truly contributes to your validity for the throne, then you will not have any issue passing the tests."
Arcana smirked, wincing slightly as she forced Aztec back down. The Quetza would have to wait.
More and more people began to join them. Arcana was rather suprised to see another familiar face make a stand, and announce his presence.
"Malik Nerio is the name! Make note of it, ladies and gentlemen, you'll be hearing a lot of it in the future." Malik smiled good-naturedly.
She couldn't help but laugh at that.
This would be interesting for sure. But whatever they were planning to throw at her... she was sure she could handle.
Denva was surprised, hearing Arcana voice a claim to the throne and glanced over, grinning and waving when she saw the circus ringmaster. She silently pointed at her cousin and mouthed "See me outside!" at the circus master when she hoped nobody else noticed or was looking. Althea's glittery hair was easy enough to spot even with people starting to stand up. She was glad Malik was also making a claim. Maybe she could team up with the Tideseeker and Arcana to make their go for the throne together. Judging from the way things were going, there wasn't anything against it as far as she understood. If she had allies, one of the three of them would make it. If she couldn't have the throne, she'd want Malik or Arcana to have it since she knew them - well, sort of. But she had a good feeling about them and her animals liked both. Her mother always said "If you can't trust your animals, you can't trust anyone!" Her Maternal grandmother was an Ashreaper beast tamer, which was why they were so inclined towards animals.
Ishmael said bothing back to Rodel, only glared, then move to join i the group.
Terri was at lose as more and more people joining in for the throne, some of those he looked down on daily basis, like a floodgate being opened by bolder people. The boy was like a cat being pet the wrong way, one that would puff up threatenly. After a moment of himreaching the boiling point, he impulsively unsheltered his sword right within the room, pointing at the would be throne--or in this case, the front of the room where everyone's gathered
"Terri Merigold" He said, voice thick with venom, a shadow cased over his eyes " Head of the royal guard, the youngest head of the royal guard in the history and there's no way i would serve under any of you" a swing the sword down to the side theatrically, a dramatic wind would made his cape dance at this point "I saw no one here deserving that throne so as someone whose job is to protect it for years i think i'm more than equipped to take it for myself"
Away from Terri's agressively bold display, Wallace group was whispering and giggling at something unrelated hushly, a few moment after they part and Wallace stepped up, paled despite his dark complexity.
"Umm, Wallace Seaward from Tideseeker, i will take part in this as well" he said, voice notiçably reluctant.
The rather stuffy guard whom Arcana had easily sneaked past finally drew his sword in a fit out outrage. "Terri Merigold" He announced angrily" Head of the royal guard, the youngest head of the royal guard in the history and there's no way i would serve under any of you. I saw no one here deserving that throne so as someone whose job is to protect it for years i think i'm more than equipped to take it for myself"
Arcana moved her hand to her mouth, barely suppressing the snicker. "How cute." She purred, tilting her head. This poor boy knew nothing of her qualifications. She doubted many people would be questioning her legitimacy if she revealed her bloodline... or the fact that she had been raised by Ashreapers and trained her entire life to lead an army. To straegize and bargain. Alas, all would be revealed in time.
After another person spoke up, Arcana turned to Rodell and cleared her throat. "Excuse me? May I make a request?" She asked him in a clipped albeit polite tone. "Is my family allowed to oversee me and my journey as guests in the palace? I would never have been given this chance without them. I need the... emotional support."
Of course, the family to which she was referring to was Alpha and the others who would have surely been at the castle by now. They had access to the winged chimeras, afterall. Her circus troupe was the only family she had ever known. True family.
Denva heard Arcana's question about family, wondering the same thing. And she wondered if Arcana saw her wave to get her attention. She had a question of her own.
"I was wondering the same thing about alliances. Would that be allowed?" She asked the nobles at the front of the room, her parents exchanging a look behind her
Rodell seemed to consider her words. ""As long as they are accounted for before the tests begin, we can make arrangements for them to stay in the palace."
Arcana beamed, "I am very grateful."
The sound of laughter erupted from somewhere in the back as the doors blew open. A young winged girl swept in, gliding above the audience.
Alpha and the rest of her troupe followed Angel en suite perched on the backs of their bonded chimera pair Kitty and Purry. The fearsome animals quickly cleared out a spot in the slightly terrified crowd, landing with a heavy thud.
Sniper and Alpha slipped off their backs, whooping joyously. Phoenix appeared more concerned, quietly apologizing to a woman whom seemed particularly frightened by the intrusion.
Arcana merely observed them smugly. She knew her troupe well enough to know that they would cause a scene. Alpha was never one to pass up a dramatic entrance. Although the seemingly senseless theatrics was a perfectly calculated move on Arcana’s part.
Everyone appeared to understand the weight of the contest. They saw it as just that. Competition. Not Arcana. She knew what this really was. A game. It wasn't about the strongest, fastest, or smartest player. It was about the most beloved. The people would follow their progress closely because they wanted to see a show. They wanted characters to root for. Underdogs. They wanted an antagonist. In the end, the people's choice would be just as valuable to her as any sword or shield would. If she had the people on her side, she knew that Rodell couldn't eliminate her. At least not without fear of major backlash.
So she would give the people what they wanted. Make a name for herself. Be memorable. And if there was one thing a performer like her was good at; it was putting on a show.
Arcana glanced around at her competition with an unreadable smile.
'Let the Games begin'
Taking a step forward, Arcana sighed. "You will have to forgive their imputent behaviour. They are just excited." She was speaking to Rodell but projecting in a way that allowed the rest if the gathered crowd to hear. She feigned embarrassment and took a step back, falling in line with the guard who declared himself to be called Terri Merigold.
"You know." Arcana drawled in a very hushed tone, her voice barely above a taunting whisper. "I found the security around these parts to be quite... lacking. The fact that these 8... loud individuals were able to sneak in what is arguably the most exclusive and important meeting of the century without detection is down right laughable. It really isn't a good look on you, hun." She leaned against him, looking rather smug. "If you can't even do this job right, how'd you expect to run a kingdom?"
she was aware that she was completely exaggerating. But she stated it with a confidence that was almost impossible. Hoping to plant at least some seeds of doubt in his mind. Even if this guard was smarter than he looked and caught on to her, it would only make their dynamic more interesting for the audience to watch.
she chose her enemies carefully. Very carefully.
Althea lit up when she saw the two Chimera, the magnificent creatures coming in with the rest of the circus troop. Her cousin hadn't been kidding when she said they were fantastic looking beasts.
"Oh wow! They really are gorgeous animals!" Althea hissed to her cousin, earning a smug "I told you so!" grin in response.
"Well now, I can see why you thought of Althea when you saw them, Denva. We definitely need to discuss their purchase with Miss Arcana." Oscar agreed, keeping his voice low as he spoke, Olivia nodding in agreement. Andre and Lily agreed as well.
"It's a good thing we already live at the palace in terms of family support. I'm glad Arcana asked that question. And Denva, you better be careful with who you want as your allies. I recommend starting with the Tideseekers. They may not be Wispweavers, but we've had a chance to get to know them." Lily recommended, her Ashreaper side showing when she started going strategic. Denva rolled her eyes at her parents before Andre could even chime in.
"Mom, Dad, I think I can handle myself. I may be a palace girl, but I ain't stupid. I'll keep Burakku with me if I can't bring Hoseki. He can fit in a backpack if he doesn't go demon." Denva assured her parents. She knew that if Burakku or Hoseki decided someone was a threat, they'd be no good as an ally. She turned to Malik with a grin.
"How about it Malik? Wanna form an alliance?" She asked the Tideseeker, Burakku purring his approval from his place on her shoulder.
Terri was startled when the rest of Arcana's circus crew burst into the room. The guard was ready to draw his sword again, but looking at the other occupants in the room and their reaction. He quickly realized what Arcana was doing. While there certainly are some surprise and concern reaction most of them are short-lived and turn into wonder and amusement. The few guards within the room while startled as he is, they are reluctant to act not to mention some indifferent reaction from the high up and nobles. In truth, Terri is dare enough to act without their consent when push comes to shove, he's no pushover but Terri's no fool and he knew Arcana's trying to make an antagonist out of him
It's a lose lose situation, By acting out, it would paint him as a villain in the publics eyes, by not doing anything, he's already a fool of himself.
Ishmael barely reacted but he kept his watchful eyes on each of the crew while Wallace make a perfect '0' face, finally recognized them as the circus he saw in the passing
Terri stepped back. Despite mentally state his disteasing for the current court and high ups such as Rodell or that he'd be okay acting against their will a paragraph prior, He still couldn't help up glancing at them for guidance, for disapproval, for anything, this meeting hall is turning into circus freak and animal farm right in front of them all! do something for goodness sake!
To make it worst, Arcana falling in line next to him and spoke to him with her sickly sweet voice and words equivelent of slapping him in the face--no screw that, like throwing a mud at him in the middle of party.Terri found himself out of his wit to response and only growled at her through gritted teeth and a glare hard enough to ki.ll. His pride was trampled, near dead but not quite. It would come back with a vegence. If It's Arcana's plan is to make him zero in on her as the nemesis the next time they meet, then she's way suceed with it.
((oh god I forgot my own son's name, it should be Marigold not Merrigold XD))
Denva grinned, but agreed with Malik. She wanted to talk to Arcana about the alliance too. Once the crowds started to thin a little, she spotted the ring master thanks to the glint from the pin she'd given her in her hat earlier.
"ARCANA! HEY ARCANA!" Denva called, making sure she was loud enough for the older woman to hear her. She swore she saw the two Chimera look her way, no doubt recognizing her from when she met them at the circus, even if their meeting was brief.
"DENVA!" Althea hissed, a little nervous about meeting the charismatic woman herself for the first time. But she figured if her cousin was comfortable enough to shout to her like she was an old friend? Well...she might as well go for it. Oscar and Olivia smiled, exchanging a look with Lily and Andre who both chuckled as Denva grabbed Althea and dragged her through the crowd, her glittery auburn hair easily spotted bobbing among the crowd
Terra sighs quietly. 'I'm glad I didn't stand up, this could get dangerous' she thinks.
Pearl looks up at the stage with all the competiters, some looking very determined. "You don't think anyone will get hurt, do you?" she asks Amelia nervously.
Arcana merely giggled at the growl that emanated from Terri. It was a warm, full sound that harboured no indication of spite or menace. Although she did not meet his eyes, merely gazing straight forward as she listened to Rodell's announcement.
A pleased smile overtook her expression. Terri would now single her out. And since he was currently the most reasonable choice for the throne with an extensive background in military expertise, Arcana could easily play the underdog.
Arcana stepped forward, exiting the front area as the crowd began to thin. She wanted to see her troupe. Her family would be allowed to stay. That was better than she could have ever hoped for.
"ARCANA!!!" The piercing screech alerted quite a few noblemen and general spectators as effervescent young brunette sprinted towards her.
Arcana mentally cringed, but a warm smile graced her physical features. "Denva." She cooed as she took a step forward, gently embracing the teenager. She took a step back. "That was quite the... enthusiastic greeting there." She chuckled good-naturedly. She paused, taking a moment to glance at Althea. "And this stunning young lady must be the cousin I have heard so much about. I can see the family resemblance." She tilted her head
Denva hugged back, glad to see the Ringmaster recognized her.
"Yeah, this is my cousin Althea, the one I told you about! Is it OK if I introduce her to Kitty and Purry? Aunt Olivia and Uncle Oscar are here too! I told them that you were looking to sell them together after the show this weekend!" Denva replied, her family catching up when they met up with Arcana. Denva introduced her parents and her Aunt and Uncle, Andre holding out his hand to the Ringmaster in greeting, noting that she had the pin that Denva made in her hat.
"I see my daughter gave you the pin she designed for you!" Andre noted, a pleased smile on his face as Olivia smiled, glancing at the two Chimera.
"Your Chimera are incredible animals. We've seen them in action in last year's performance. We come to your show with my sister Lily every year! We never miss!" Olivia told the Ringmaster, impressed with the two Chimera. The names weren't exactly intimidating, but she figured that was the point: ironic names for top predators.
"Yeah, this is my cousin Althea, the one I told you about!" Denva exclaimed, her mouth moving at a kilometre a second. Meanwhile, the rest of her family, it seemed, was struggling to catch up. "Is it OK if I introduce her to Kitty and Purry? Aunt Olivia and Uncle Oscar are here too! I told them that you were looking to sell them together after the show this weekend!"
"I think that is a splendid idea." Arcana replied with a cheerful close-eyed grin.
She opened her eyes as Denva's family arrived. The man who Arcana assumed was Denva's fathers offered Arcana a hand which she accepted, firmly shaking it in greeting.
""I see my daughter gave you the pin she designed for you!" He exclaimed, his tone gleaming with pride.
"Yes, she did." Arcana withdrew, her hand flitting up to lightly touch the pin. "It is excellent craftsmanship. Although I would expect nothing less from a family as talented as you."
""Your Chimera are incredible animals. We've seen them in action in last year's performance. We come to your show with my sister Lily every year! We never miss!" Denva's aunt, Oliva proclaimed, garnering another cheerful smile from the ringmaster.
Arcana bowed deeply, her hand wrapping around towards her back in a theatrical manner. "I am humbled by your praise. We put forth great effort into our training. Our animals are the most well fed and well disciplined. We typically auction them off after their retirements and I am constantly amazed by what people are willing to pay. However, for a family as beloved you all, we would be honoured to sell them to you directly." She smiled warmly. Although it was a bit tenser than usual for at that moment, Aztec decided to act out.
Obsurced by the lucid red fabric of her tail coat, her tattoo began to shift and pulsate beneath her skin. She could also feel serpentine coils wrapping constrictively around her arm, cutting off circulation and causing spikes of pain to raidate outwards along her shoulder
"Hey, are you ok?" Olivia asked, seeing Arcana wince a little from something on her arm. She was genuinely concerned for the woman.
"Althea, come on! Let's go!" Denva insisted, pulling her cousin over to where she saw Alpha with the animals.
"Hey Alpha! Arcana already gave us permission, but can I introduce Althea here to Kitty and Purry?" She asked the second in command of the circus, glad she was able to spot him so easily.
"They're magnificent animals, my parents are discussing purchasing them with Arcana right now. We're going to buy them after your show this weekend!" Althea confirmed, her hair sparkling with the gemstones beaded into the braids in a desert style bun.
(Althea wears her hair in a style similar to the Gerudo in Breath of the Wild if you guys need a reference)
Comedically, both Terri and Ishmael perked up at the exact same time at the mention of the word "Eliminate"
Once dismissed and people start to be puring out of the poor or loitering around, Terri marched like a restless lion. He has half a mind to think about approaching Arcana again, perhaps putting the last word in, or threatening her but ultimately he done neither. He has place to be. Soon enough he stood right infront of his second in command; another elder man whom Terri doesn't like
"Now listen, you are going to be my stand in but we both know how incompetant you are, so in the end I will still be over seeing everything, is that clear?" He barked but didn't stick around to here the answer. Contradicted his word however, Terri feels like he wouldn't be over see anything for the rest of the day, he needed to be in his room to cool off and likely skiping the dinner entirely, he don't think he want to face anyone for the day.
Ishmael was approached by Malik. He smile pleasantly and politely at the mechant "Those two have also put on quite a show, I don't believe mine stood out that much compair to all their dramatic flairs. I believe you said your name was Nerio, Correct?"
"Hey, are you okay?" Oliva questioned her, her face slack with genuine concern.
Arcana rubbed out her arm, offering a strained smile. "Oh, yes. Just an annoying tick acting up again. Must be the nerves." She shrugged it off.
"Whoa!' Alpha chuckled as he amusedly observed the two girl's effervescent tone. "You two ready to wrangle some of the most fearsome beasts in the land?" He joked
As if to prove his point, Kitty let loose a massive, displaying rows of jagged, massive fangs. Then she promptly stretched out, and collapsed on her stomach, her legs spreading out underneath her. Purring lazily, the massive cat rolled onto her back and wiggled around on the floor.
Alpha face palmed.
Denva and Althea both burst out laughing at the large feline's antics. Neither girl could help it since they knew feline behavior.
"Burakku does the same thing! A cat's a cat no matter the size!" Althea comented, grinning at the big feline as Burakku wandered over and sat at her side with a mewo, now in his larger demon size. Which was about the size of a horse, maybe 16 hands at the shoulder.
"This is Burakku by the way, he's my Mom's Nekomata. Of course, he's cuter in his kitten form, but I guess he figured if he was meeting Chimera, he might as well match them for size." Denva explained to Alpha, rubbing the cat behind the ear
Ishmael lightly chuckled "A smarter man would not turn down the opportunity to observe or befriend the potential opponents, But honestly I'm not really a people person. I'm not good around the crowds and all the noise so I would see myself more liekly to hold up in the small dark room and sew this evening"
Pearl hesitates for a moment, then nods. "I saw the parade when they first arrived, it would be fun to see more" she smiles.
"Yes, let's hope" Ishamel's smile spread and for a brief second there's a somewhat dangerous glint in his eyes. As polite and civil as he seems to be compare to Terri, Ishmael's still an opponet and consider everyone as such.
With all that said and done , it cut out Ishmael and Terri for the rest of the night event. But for a slightly more extrovert soul like Wallace however, you'd likely to still seeing him around attending the dinner and the show even if you don't know him yet. At the moment, he was surrounded by his friends who seems escatic about him actually competing for the throne while the man himself regret it
"And you can't chicken out no! you have to go for the whole thing!"
"Who knows, our Wallace might end up being our future king, wouldn't that be crazy"
Both of the girls found Kitty's antics to be quite amusing. Once they had recovered from thjeir bout of laughter Althea spoke up.
"Burakku does the same thing! A cat's a cat no matter the size!" Althea comented with a grin as a rather massive cat approached.
Alpha tilted his head back, making a considerably expression. "Huh."
Denva introduced them. "This is Burakku by the way, he's my Mom's Nekomata. Of course, he's cuter in his kitten form, but I guess he figured if he was meeting Chimera, he might as well match them for size."
Alpha grinned. "He's a beaut, ain't he?" He drawled, reached a hand up to greet Burakku. "Can't say I have ever wrangled one of these beasties myself."
"My Mom got him from a breeder. You should consider getting one for your act next year since Kitty and Purry are retiring. Imagine what people will think! One minute a cute little two tailed kitten and the next, poof! A he.llfire demon pops out of the ring of fire!" Denva suggested, reaching out to let Purry sniff her hand again before petting the gorgeous golden feline.
"They really are as impressive as Chimera even if it's just for the "Wow" factor of seeing them use their innate magic to shift! They'll give the audience a different kind of thrill than they get from seeing the Chimera in action!" Althea agreed, thinking along the same lines as Denva. She figured giving the circus animal master a new idea for an act was the least she could do since her parents would no doubt buy her the two Chimera. Speaking of Nekomata, she and Denva saw the way Burakku was eyeing Alpha before circling him and butting his head against the older boy's shoulder in an affectionate greeting, a grin like a Cheshire Cat on his face as he rubbed up against the male human as a sign of affection.
(if you don't mind us finishing the convo first, that's fine with me!)
((I don't mind either. but I doubt I am gonna role-play the entire hour and some odd performance. Cause that will get real old real fast. Maybe just the beginning then skip to banquet or whatever comes after?))
Alpha listened to the girls with an enthused smile. "Ya don't say? I might have to look into it my- whoa!" He stumbled sideways as the massive creature gentky nudged against him. Alpha laughed and placed a hand on his snout. "Curious little kitten, aren't ya?"
Kitty, it appeared, was growing jealous of all the attention Burakku and Purry were receiving. Kitty roared softly and spring up, tackling Purry over. The duo rolled across the floor, scaring some frazzled guests and knocking over a few tables.
Alpha gulped. "Well. It was nice chatting with you girls. I would love to stick around but I am afraid that I have a few kittens to wrangle." He dipped his hat towards them then swiftly took after Kitty whose playful fight with Purry was nearly squishing a few guests
Denva and her cousin both laughed at the reaction of the two felines as Olivia called them over.
"Coming mom!" Althea called, grinning at her cousin as Burakku returned to his kitten form, settling on Denva's head as they made their way back to the adults and their Tideseeker friends.
"Did you find the Chimera to your liking?" Oscar asked his daughter and Althea nodded.
"Uh huh! They're perfect, Dad! Can we buy them once the Circus is done with their performance this weekend?" Althea asked, earning a chuckle as Oscar turned to Arcana.
"It looks like we'll be negotiating prices for the two Chimera once you're done with them this weekend. I can tell you right now that my daughter and Denva are going to spoil those two rotten!" Oscar told the ringleader, earning a laugh from Andre and Lily, and an approving meow from Burakku
((All right. I'm ready to time skip))
"It looks like we'll be negotiating prices for the two Chimera once you're done with them this weekend. I can tell you right now that my daughter and Denva are going to spoil those two rotten!" Oscar gushed
Arcana smiled. "I am ssure they will appreciate it. Now if you will excuse me." She ran to aid Alpha in wrangling the beasts, barely having time to address Malik with a nod of acknowledgement at his announcement
After dinner with the Tideseekers at the restaurant, the girls dashed through the crowd to get to the circus tent for the ticket purchases for the event.
"Slow down you two! The circus isn't going anywhere!" Lily teased the two girls, seeing Burakku on Denva's head as per usual when he was with her. They'd left Hoseki back at the palace, which only made sense since the gryphon already knew the circus folks. Denva secured the family a place near the front of the forming line as the adults caught up. She'd introduced them to Sniper, remembering his flirting earlier. Neither Andre or Lily objected to him getting to know their daughter.
"You're just slow! Adults always are!" Althea called back, earning a laugh from Denva as they purchased their tickets for the show. All front row tickets, as always.
Pearl walks through the hallways, heading towards the library to meet up with Amelia. She stumbles back as someone runs into her. "Oh no, sorry, I didn't meen to run into you. Are you ok?" the older teen asks quickly, looking concerned and a bit embarrased of her mistake. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. S-sorry, I should have watched where I was going.." Pearl stammers shyly, while Midnight caws indignantly at the other girl. A three-tailed fox, standing at the girls side, narrows her eyes and glares at Midnight. The older girl looks at Midnight curiously, then frowns slightly. "Are you new? I meen, I don't know everyone here very well, but I don't think I've seen you around here before.. hang on, are you that girl who showed up a little while ago with no memories?" she asks. Pearl nods and smiles nervously. "Y-yes, that's me" she says, a bit worried that she'd be in trouble. The other girl studies Pearl for a moment, then smiles. "Well, it's nice to meet you. I'm Terra, this is Trico" she says, gesturing to the fox. "Say hi, Trico" she tells the vixen, who slowly pads over to Pearl. After giving her a quick sniff, Trico sits down, her tails fanned out and glowing in mesmerising patterns. She stares deeply into Pearls eyes for a few moments, then yaps happily and wags her tails, before standing up on her hind legs to give Pearls hand a friendly lick. Terra grins and relaxes, while Pearl giggles and bends down to pet the fox. "I'm Pearl, this is Midnight. It's really nice to meet you both" she says, relieved to have met another friendly person. The two girls start walking along the hall together, Trico trotting between them and Midnight still on Pearls shoulder. "Where are you headed?" Terra asks. "I was looking for Amelia, we're going to the circus together" Pearl explains. "Really? I'm going to see it too! Mind if I join you?" "Oh, that would be great!" Pearl says happily.
Arcana and her crew had been relentlessly toiling away, making last minute preparations to begin their grand show. And given the amount of ticket sales... the whole kingdom was likely to show. An unforeseen side effect of Arcana’s stunt at the castle was the gossip. Apparently, claiming the throne was enough to pique people's interests, essentially turning it into a massive publicity stunt. Ticket sales skyrocketed after word of the contestants spread as hundreds of folk shoveled over their cash in order to get a glimpse of Arcana. The circus ringleader and potential future Queen.
The entire situation was odd. Many laughed, bets were hedged. It seems as though most believed Arcana to not be genuine in her entry of the competition. That is was nothing more than an elaborate advertising scheme to boost sales. If that were true... it was working.
Arcana and her crew had to expand the size of the tent multiple times to accommodate the sudden demand. Even so, many latecomers were refused entry simply due to a lack of space.
The smell of baked sweets and salty snacks laden the air as thr sun began to set on the kingdom. Many stations and booths were set up at the entrance to the tent lower-classed performers roamed the ground. Some on stilts, others on horseback, and some doing acrobatics as they moved.
Intentionally rigged carnival games littered the area, ball tosses, rope climbs, and other such activities were available for customers... at a price.
Overall, it seemed that the success of this one night would be enough to set the circus up for months to come.
Denva and Althea had a swirl of cotton candy and a bag of popcorn as well as other circus confections that their parents had purchased for them, including drinks. They were excited as they sat in their front row seats.
"OK you two, ready for the show?" Olivia asked as she sat on her daughter's right, Denva on the left, her own mother on the other side with the fathers caping off their little group as if protecting their ladies. This was their usual seating arrangement at events like this.
"Yes Mom! We've got it." Althea assured her mother as Denva took a sip of her drink.
(sorry this be short! not sure what to do yet!)
As promised and expected, Both Ishmael adn Terri were no where to be seen this evening. The Mysterious Seamstress was likely holding up in his dark room working on his next project while the Guard is likely to be sulking. And thus only one of the arguably least stood out candidate like Wallace showed up. He seems more relax as he happily stuffing food to match his build and was seen playing around with the carnivals' game. He'd show up for the show once it's start
[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]
Once Demitri realized the announcement was about to commence, he ushered for Amelia and Pearl to head towards some open seating. He didn't want their group to be the only ones standing aside from the guards when the officials began.
[Malik Nerio | Merchant]
Malik nodded in agreement, angsty to hear what the officials were to say.
As a hush fell across the room, the cleric taking a step forward. His robes were decorated with religious symbolism of the gods and goddesses. He had minimal hair on the top of his head, and the ring below it was graying. He had a stern look to his face, notable even with a black-and-gray mixture making up a neat beard along his jaw.
"Thank you for coming today." He began. As soon as his voice ricocheted through the room, it ceased any whispers still lingering. The cleric's naturally loud and clear voice clearly shone the years worth of experience he had with public speaking. "I'm Elder Rodell, but a humble member of the clergy. I have been chosen to present the bulk of the tidings we have for you, members of the royal palace, or an extension of so."
Malik could have snorted at the flowery language but held his tongue. This was one instance he needed to keep quiet for the time being.
"I won't patronize you all by dragging this out. We all know we are here because of the unexpected passing of our late Queen," The man paused to perform a brief sign with his hands, a respectable sign meaning peace towards someone who has moved on to an afterlife. "I assure you, these days have been stressful to every one of us. With no royal heir, it has been up to those in high office to come to some sort of conclusion on who will take over the reign of Astrin. As it stands... it will be none of the members standing upon this platform right this moment."
People began murmuring quietly at the news, surprised. Malik was a bit, as well. He'd expected one of the stuffy nobles to take over.
This is getting interesting, He thought, sliding a bit forward in his seat to listen even closer.
"It may be unorthodox, but the entire situation is. There are simply no traditional options, as pained as I am to say it. A new monarch will be found, though it will be through an unconventional method of tests and training. These candidates must prove themselves the most worthy of the throne compared to all others. These scenarios will be overseen by myself and neutral nobility to ensure this competition stays fair and so that Astrin sees a rightful ruler once more."
Rodell ended his sentence with a strong tone, everyone in the room hanging onto every word.
"Having been invited based on prowess, everyone in this room is eligible to compete.
One of the nobles that had stood behind Rodell stepped up. He was still on the younger side, with a handsome face and blond hair slicked back fashionably. "If you are one that intends to go for the crown, embrace it and make your name known to us!"
