(@Wolf and Star - if Rabi plays his cards right, he might get lucky! Lol. Denva would be open to a relationship with a cute guy like Sniper since he's her age. I don't think her parents would object to her being with a performer from her favorite circus! Especially if it's a Wispweaver boy.)

"Of course! Hoseki doesn't bite. She's really friendly and loves meeting new people. But the best way to greet a griffin that you aren't familiar with, winged or otherwise, is like how you'd greet a strange feline like a Manticore or a hunting leopard. Hold out your hand, keep your eyes avterted. Show her you're not a threat. Let her come to you. With Hippogryphs, you want to bow, but not with gryphons. They take that as a sign of weakness. You want to be submissive, but show that you can hold your own if you have to. Like with a dragon. Remember that Hoseki is still an apex predator though." Denva instructed, Hoseki bobbing her head again before settling a little into a more relaxed, catlike pose. She made a sound that sounded like a cross between a mewel of a kitten and a caw of a parakeet. That was one of Denva's favorite sounds from her gryphon: it was a sure sign that she was relaxed and willing to meet new people. She could sense that Mira was wary - no doubt she'd had experience with birds of prey. That would come in handy when dealing with a gryphon in the future if she ever met another one. She kept a hand on the gryphon's side to remind her that she needed to stay calm and not get too excited like she often did when meeting new people.

Denva did however, notice the conjoined twins, Rhyme and Lullaby, watching them. No doubt Denva had sent the popular performers to keep an eye on them, just in case. She appreciated that from her idol. It was clear she cared about her clients and their safety. She didn't say anything to Malik and Mira though. She figured the two sailors would notice them eventually.

"Okay, I think I got it," Mira breathed out. Malik watched, arms crossed, as Mira nodded along to the instructions. The female Tideseeker's brows furrowed in concentration to remember everything.

Mira first averted her golden gaze, like she had been told at the beginning, with her hand held outwards. Her posture was in a mixture of submissive and openness towards the gryphon to accept or decline as it wished. Malik looked between the two, waiting to see what would happen before his turn to attempt the same thing.

"Thanks!" she says happily, swapping books with him. She takes the red book to a table and starts to read. Midnight flutters from her shoulder, lands on the back of a chair next to hers and quietly starts to zip up his feathers.

Hoseki purred, pressing her beak into the Tideseeker's hand, a clear gesture of greeting and trust. If they let you touch their beak, that was a clear sign of welcome.

"OK, you can look at her now." Denva told Mira, smiling as she watched her gryphon interact with a new friend. Hoseki was purring like one of those new magic powered lawnmower engines. She knew the gryphon loved meeting people. But sometimes Hoseki got a little over excited.

Malik watched Mira look back at the gryphon upon the action being okayed. The girl laughed a bit as the animal's beak nuzzled into her outstretched hand. Hoseki made a content cat-like noise, but more amplified and louder than a typical housecat's, matching adequately to the gryphon's larger size.

"She's got quite the purr," Malik chuckled, his eyes wandering until he noticed two twin figures a ways away. They seemed to be part of the circus troop, and happened to be staring at the group of three and the two steeds. Despite himself, Malik felt goosebumps at the realization of being watched. His smile wavered, but quickly he put it back on. However, Malik realized that their welcome on the premises was limiting and that they would soon need to be on their way after finishing up with Denva.

[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]

After Pearl walked over to quietly start reading, Demitri moved towards his desk, still within view to the guest. Demitri set down his mug, still warm. While he was back in the library, he might as well either get some more work done or read, or so he reasoned.

However, Amelia soon returned from her break. The librarian assistant spotted Demitri and rushed over.

"You're still here?" She asked Demitri, her tone slightly loud, before she realized the presence of someone reading, from Demitri's pointed glare. Amelia's cheeks flushed slightly, but per usual, the teen almost immediately forgot her prior actions. She had noticed Midnight perched atop Pearl's shoulder, as well as the book Pearl was reading. Amelia seemed tempted to stike a conversation, but decided to opt, to Demitri's approval, to instead to cater to the guest.

"Good day, miss." Amelia said cheerfully, but more quietly to Pearl. "Pardon the interruption, but may I offer you some tea and biscuits to go along with your reading?"

Arcana noticed Sniper pushing past her, making a B-Line towards the exit. She paued for a moment and turned around.

The teenager had enchanted the cleaning supplies to levitate from the ground, doing all of the cleaning for him.

"Hey! No fair!" Alpha called out petulantly.

Sniper turned around briefly.  "Sorry, Hoss. But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do."

Arcana rolled her eyes. Again.

Alpha scoffed. "Yeah, whatever. Not all of us get magic, though."

Sniper chuckled, ruffling his bruised fingers through his cut hair before breifly whirling around. He jumped out of the ring and stalked towards one of the performing horses. Placing one hand on the cantle and one leg on the stirrups, he hoisted himself onto the pale horse's back.

"You do realise that she comes from a rich family, right?" Arcana pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Yup." Sniper popped the 'p' on the word, directing the horse over to Arcana. The creature snorted, stamping its hoofs with an antsy excitement.

"No self respect noble father would marry off his daughter to a commoner" Arcana pointed out.

Even Angel seemed to agree. The winged little girl was nodded frevorously

Sniper made a face. "Ew. Who said anything about marriage? I won't allow myself to be trussed up to some woman. I am just going to have some fun."

Arcana sighed as Sniper snapped the reins, causing the show horse to canter out of the tent.

Easing his mount into a gallop, Sniper sprinter past Denva and Malik, deciding to show of and frame it as practice.

Finding a relatively large open space not too far off from the Wingless Griffin and Denva, Sniper eased the horse into a large looping circle. Pushing up from her back, Sniper planted his feet on the saddle then slowly stood up. The subtle centrifugal force of the circle the horse was running in allowed him to keep his balance on the creature's back as he stuck out one leg behind him.

Arcana emerged from the tent, standing next to the twins.

Rhyme and Lullaby had not moved a single inch from where they began. They hardly even blinked. Arcans began having second guesses about sending them out to watch her guests instead of one od the more subtle and friendly performers.

Angel squirmed so Arcana let her down, eyeing Sniper's antics. She crossed her arms and shook her head, chuckling as she did so

Pearl looks up as she hears a voice and smiles at Amelia, lowering her head slightly in a shy but friendly greeting. "Ooh, yes please, that would be lovely, thank you!" she says happily. Midnight stops grooming and looks up as he hears the word 'biscuits'.

Denva yelped in surprise as the horse galloped past, Hoseki barely batting an eye at the other animal when her rider recognized one of the circus performers on it's back. Denva rolled her eyes when she saw the cute boy was showing off. She turned back to Malik and saw he'd noticed the conjoined twins. She figured she might as well include them.

"Would you two like to meet Hoseki?" She called to the sisters, figuring the twins, being known for their quiet demeanor, might not respond except by either accepting or declining her invitation. She then turned back to Malik to reply to his comment.
"Dad often compares her to one of those new mechanical lawnmowers people are starting to make with alchemy these days. Gryphons of any sort often display a combination of bird and cat behaviors depending on the combination of species." Denva explained to Malik, watching Mira with her friend to make sure she didn't get bitten by accident.

Malik turned upon hearing the clop of a horse's hooves nearby. Suddenly, a horse with a figure atop its back moved swiftly by the small group into an open clearing. What appeared to be an older teen pushed up into a standing position atop the horse, impressively balancing. The entire scene had appeared casually enough to just be a performer practicing his act, but Malik was used enough to subtly posturing, so he was quite certain that the boy's choice of location was very purposeful.

The Tideseeker considered which member of the group the young lad may be showing off for, at first considering Mira, but noting that he had designedly ridden by Denva, closer to his age. The girl in question rolled her eyes at the sight. She instead invited the two silent twins over, before explaining some more about Hoseki to Malik.

"I see, I see, her purr is indeed similar to that of machinery, " Malik humored, as the man and horse neared the group during his gallop. Malik lowered his voice slightly in his next address to Denva. "Pardon me, but I do believe that young man over there may be trying to capture your attention."

[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]

Upon both Pearl and Midnight showing an interest in the offered goodies, Amelia cheerily clasped her hands together. The glasses-wearing girl quickly hurried off to a room in the back of the library, where Demitri kept the tools to make tea and stored some refreshments so that they didn't always have to walk down to the kitchens. After several minutes, in which Demitri finished his own beverage in, the assistant rushed back in with a small tray topped with a few teacups, saucers, a teapot of hot water, and a plate splayed out with a selection of different cookies.

The girl set the tray down on the middle of the table Pearl was near to. The teacup and pot were rather simple but elegant. The main color was a normal white, but decorated with royal blue designs swirling around delicately towards the handles and spout. The biscuit selection showed a few different cookies, a type speckled with sugar, a second with a fruit center, and another type partially dipped in chocolate.

"I hope one of these strikes your fancy," Amelia grinned good-naturedly. Demitri could tell the girl herself was anticipating taking a cookie (or two, or three), but was patiently waiting for the visitors to take some. "By the way, I'm Amelia!" She said, seeming to remember to introduce herself.

"Thank you!" Pearl says with a smile, taking the teacup, a chocolate-dipped biscuit for herself and a fruit-centered one for Midnight. She gives the raven his biscuit, which he takes in his beak before hopping onto Pearl's bag, which she had placed on the table. He settles down on it as if it were a nest, then happily eats his treat. "It's nice to meet you, Amelia. I'm Pearl and this is Midnight."

Denva looked over, recognizing the boy as Sniper, one of the sharpshooters from the circus. Who knew he was so talented with horses. Hoseki looked over and squawked her approval of the mount.

"That's Sniper, one of the sharpshooters. I remember seeing his act last year. I'm pretty sure they said he was a Wispweaver. From the Trustworthy House." Denva recalled, using the nickname for the Wispweavers. They were commonly known as honest people, they had that reputation.

In response to the slightly teasing words Malik had said to bring attention to the unknown teen boy, Denva relayed some information about him.

"My, a sharpshooter? He certainly has multiple talents, then." Malik nodded at the gained information. Wispweavers were an interesting folk. Despite their known loyalty and honesty, there were still individuals from the faction Malik wouldn't want to get on the bad side of. While the blond merchant wasn't quite a full-blown liar... he bent the truth quite well enough in certain situations. A trait that wasn't particularly favored among some Whispweavers. A bit of fabrication helped with bartering and intimidation, while most of what helped him get closer to people were charm, wit, or his reputable goods. Wispweavers, however, seemed to have a more natural way of getting close to others.

[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]

The bird nested down on Pearl's bag to snack down on the fruity treat. Pearl thanked the assistant, taking a biscuit for herself. Amelia allowed the tea to steep before pouring a warm, light brown liquid out. The hot tea's aroma wafted around the room, quickly making its way over to Demitri's desk. Despite his recently-finished coffee, the scent of spiced tea was beckoning enough that the libration walked over to the table, where Amelia had already started pouring the third teacup.

"I know this of all things could get you over here," Amelia said jokingly to her technical boss, before turning her attention back to Pearl.

"Nice to meet you!" She said in return. "I see you've already met this grump, but he's alright." Demitri had to stop from rolling his eyes, just silently letting the girl indirectly pester him while he grabbed the poured cup of tea. Upon sipping from the cup, a pleasant, warm feeling wafted through his body.

"I do hope we receive a new shipment today," Demitri said, watching as Amelia grabbed two sugar cookies. They were running quite low on this particular blend of tea. He was anticipating that the royal merchant would arrive within the next day or so with his supply from a nearby neighboring nation that specialized in such items.

Denva smiled, watching the boy show off for her attention. She rolled her eyes before calling out "If you're done showing off, you might as well come over and say hi!" to the boy. She knew Sniper was trying to get her attention. Why though? She had no idea.

If Sniper heard Denva's comment, he paid her no heed. Rather he re-seated himself on his mount, grasping the horses main in his fists as he steered her around.

The mare slowed to a trot, her hair flicking irritably at the glaring sun.  Then she bucked.

The unexpected movement sent Sniper launching through the air, tumbling across the dusty, grassy ground.

The other circus members, used to Sniper provoking the horses and getting kicked off, continued about their way without so much as blinking at him.

Grunting, Sniper proppeed himself up on his elbow. His knees were freshly scrapped, blood slowly trickling down his leg. But the wild glint in his eye demonstrated no sign of pain. With a wolfish smile, Sniper whooped. "Let's do that again, girl."

The mare snorted, digging her front hoof into the ground. Then she whirled around, cantering past Denva and back into the circus tent.

Sniper feigned an expression of hurt, clutching at his chest. "Is this how it feels... to be rejected by a lady?" He joked

Denva couldn't help it, she burst out laughing at Sniper's antics. She'd seen him get bucked before and figured it was part of his act. But now she saw the horses actually did it on purpose!

"I just think you went a little too far with that poor mare. Pro tip: never upset one. I made that mistake once and got bit for it when I was first learning how to ride. She yanked my hair right out of my head." Denva replied, glad she made the choice to come to town early and hid the jewels she'd picked up for her father in Hoseki's saddle bags so she could come right to the circus parade. Even Hoseki made a laughing nose, turning her head from where Mira was petting her to see what her human was up to.

Sniper just shot her a grin. "What? Getting bucked off is half the fun, luv." He purred as he rose to his feet, brushing off his jacket. "The name's Sniper." He stuck out his hand. "Curator of all things fun and adventurous." He winked at her. "Although most people here just call me crazy."

Denva laughed again, taking Sniper's hand in her own and shaking it as Hoseki sniffed curiously at the circus performer.

"I kinda figured as much. I saw your act last year when the circus came through. I was just introducing Hoseki here to Malik and Mira before I had to get back to the palace. I'm Denva, Denva Beaumont, but I honestly don't really care about formalities." Denva replied, introducing her group, though she suspected that Sniper was only here because of her. Hoseki certainly didn't seem to see him as a threat, as she plonked herself down by Denva as if to say "OK, I'm bored, when can we go back home?" in Gryphon, which was enough to earn an eye roll from her rider.

Sniper looked considerate. "Denva. What a lovely name. I think it's my new favourite word." After that cheesy line, he grinned a goofy grin as if he knew how much of a dork he was being. "Anyhow. I wouldn't want to keep you. Your mount seems to be getting impatient. Unless, that is, you'd like to stay?"

Denva smiled, glancing at Hoseki as the Gryphon gave her a look that told her that they had to get going.

"Sorry, but I have to get back to the palace. But I'll be back for the show tonight, for sure." Denva told Sniper, Hoseki bobbing her head in agreement. "I'd love to stay, I really would, but I'm already running a little late as it is. My parents sent me in to town for an errand after all. Good thing I already did it before coming to the parade."

Malik glanced at the sky while Sniper and Denva introduced themselves, judging the time of day.

"I suppose we should head out soon," Malik commented to Mira, who nodded, having finished petting Hoseki once the circus member had come over. Kai and Marrin also voiced their agreement.

Denva just seemed to be finishing up her conversation with Sniper.

"We'll also be heading out," Malik said, when there was an opening to speak.

"Yeah, see you later!" Mira said in farewell with a small wave.

Alpha raced out of the tent, his hair a mess and dirt stains on his face. "What did I miss?"

Pearl quietly continues reading, sipping her tea every so often. Every time she comes across a drawing in the book, she studies it hard, then copies it onto a spare piece of paper from her bag. At one point, she comes across a map of Astrin and the surrounding kingdoms. She studdies this picture a little longer than the earlier ones, but then gets out her quill, ink and paper to draw just like before. After a little while, she frowns and pauses. 'Why is this map so much easier to draw than the other pictures? It can't be because it's a map, there was one earlier on in the book' she thinks, confused. She resumes drawing, amazed as her hand seems to flow over the page as if re-tracing a well-known pattern. As she finally finishes the map, she sits back and frowns, trying to grasp what had just happend. She turns the quill upside down, with the feather now touching the page, and traces the map again, letting her hand flow smoothly along the lines. Suddenly her hand moves a little quicker, more surely. She snaps her half-closed eyes open and stares at that part of the map, showing one of Astrin's more distant neibours. 'Muscle memory? It- it can't be anything else. It felt like I've done that so many times before..' she thinks. She hesitantly gets another spare piece of paper, drawing just the most familiar kingdom from the map. Once it's finished, she pushes it over to Midnight. "Do- do you recognize this?" she asks quietly, her voice trembelling slightly. The raven tilts his head this way and that, then lifts his head to look at the girls. He gives a soft caw, as if whispering. The caw that mimics the word 'Yes'.

(Because I don't know what kingdoms there are outside of Astrin, it's up to you to choose which one Pearl drew, UltraGeek :D)

"Same for you all," Malik responded, right before a far more ruffled than earlier Alpha emerged from the tent, questioning the earlier moments that had taken place.

"Not much," Mira hid a giggle at the male's hurried mannerisms. "We're all just about to leave."

[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]

While Demitri and Amelia sipped their tea, Pearl flipped through the book. At some point, the girl took out some paper and began scrawling atop it. It appeared to be a map of a nearby country, though it was currently upside down from Demitri's view, from across the table.

Astrin had multiple neighboring countries. The most infamous, of course, was the country of Zemir, which shared the continent with Astrin. Their lands to the north, above the Ridgestrider mountains, were known for their colder weather and terrains filled with mountains and thick forests. The Zemirians had unique fighting styles, secretive magic, and impressive architecture despite the tough surroundings. They were also experts at tracking and trapping, meaning they had bountiful fur trades, as well as boasted being able to fish in the more frigid deep waters of their coastlines. Astrin and Zemir had had, at best, shaky relations for generations, making most trade and good correspondence difficult.

The nearby isles making up the nation of Ahi, however, was a popular nation off the coast of Astrin. The two nations were very friendly. Astrins both traded with or visited the islets for the ocean-jungle scenery. The tropical nation to the south exported goods such as exotic fruits, furniture made from beautiful trees grown there, as well as unique clothing and decor. Their ports made it so almost all nearby nations could send traders with large cargo ships full of goods to exchange.

Sonas was another, large nation, more distant and separate from the others, but big enough not to quite seem like an island. It was known for large, golden deserts in the middle of the land, but not without areas of flora and green and lagoons in beautiful oasis towns. Sonas was known for teas and spices, as well as unique fashion techniques and animal companions. Many towns had large marketplaces, making the kingdom a shopper's haven.

The most unknown of the distant nations was Eldia, a nearby continent. It didn't seem to have enemies, but it also didn't seem to have tight alliances with the other nations. The lands were said to be luscious, with rolling fields of greens, clear skies, and calming lakes. The people were known to be mostly neutral towards wars or similar that the other nations could be included in, making people believe they may be pacifists to a point. They participate in some trading, but their goods were varied, often died meats, fruits, vegetables, and hand crafted goods.

Whichever kingdom's map Pearl was drawing, even Midnight seemed to recognize it.

((here are a few suggestions as to what it could be, in case you want some control over what to pick, or feel free to come up with an entirely different kingdom if you want, @gingerforum :) but if you still want me to pick, I can have Demitri suggest which one it is in my next post.))

((aah, so hard to choose, I'm torn, they all sound great! I doupt I'll ever be able to pick one, so I think you'd better do it, please))

Pearl's heart races with excitement at Midnight's answer and she pulls the map back to herself. 'What's so important about this map that I would draw it over and over again? What did I want to remember?' she thinks, frowning as she struggles to grasp the memory just out of reach.

[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]

As Pearl mulled over her drawing, Demitri was able to tell the now finished, distinctive shape of the kingdom mapped out on the piece of paper, even upside down.

He set down his teacup atop the table as he glanced down at the handmade map.

"Eldia," Demitri said, mentioning the kingdom's name out loud. "Not too much is known about there, since it's a bit distant, and the people usually keep to themselves. Does it look familiar to you?"

Pearl nods slowly. "Yeah.. I don't know why though. I feel like I've drawn this map a lot before, which is something I do to remember things when I was little..." she says quietly. Midnight, who had been sitting with his head tilted in thought, suddenly stands up and pulls Pearls back towards the girl. She frowns and opens it, then Midnight tugs out the large note-book, the one from Pearl's parents. The girl blinks a few times, confused, then her eyes widen. "Home?" she whispers. Midnight caws happily.

Demitri regarded the girl's reaction to the beforementioned country after the raven brought Pearl's attention to a notebook.

"It seems doing something you've previously done many times before incites familiarity, even without remembering," Demitri said. "Perhaps you could check out some books on Eldia, some of the information in them could further help."

"I have to get back to the palace anyways. I'll see you guys at the show tonight!" Denva replied, urging Hoseki into a brisk trot in the direction of the palace. She heard the jewels jangling in her bag, glad she'd picked them up first and hid them so well in her saddlebags. Hoseki had a little prance to her step as she glanced smugly back at her rider. Denva rolled her eyes in response.

"OK, I'll admit, Sniper's cute. Though, I don't know if my parents will approve of a commoner even if he is a Whispweaver." She told the gryphon, giving her a pat on the neck as they trotted past the guards with a wave. The Ashreaper had a hawk on his shoulder and had the ability to sight share with his bird.

"Hi Marcus! My Dad back yet?" Denva asked the Ashreaper guard, pulling up Hoseki to a stop beside him, the hawk, a redtail named Heru, after an old god of the skies, and the bird cawed at Hoseki in greeting. Marcus Aquilus of the Ashreapers was an old family friend.

"Just got back a few minutes before you did, Denva! What happened, get caught up in the circus parade?" He replied, the last bit teasing a little since he knew the girl was a circus fan. Denva rolled her eyes in response.

"Actually, yes, I got to meet Arcana and get a preview of the show tonight. Don't worry, I made sure Dad's gems were well hidden before letting them anywhere near Hoseki. Made some new Tideseeker friends too." Denva reported, a smug grin on her face as Marcus gaped, then rolled his eyes at her.

"Ok, how you pick up friends everywhere you go, I have no idea. You make Heru jealous sometimes, ya know that? Go on inside, the stable hands are waitin' fer ya. Get them gems to him and cleaned up. Don't forget about the announcement this afternoon. Shouldn't interfere with the show schedule." Marcus replied, shooing the girl inside. He wore more old fashioned armor: chainmail and plates, but a bit more streamline with a bit of leather armor showing. Denva nodded, heading inside and swinging off Hoseki while she was still moving, easily keeping pace with the gryphon as she led her over to the stables.

"Hey Denva! Circus in town?" A boy asked, coming over to take Hoseki for her and get her settled.

"Yup, Hoseki's already been fed at the circus, got to see a preview of the show." Denva replied, taking the gems from the saddle bag and her other purchases.

"Lucky! Your Dad's upstairs by the way, in your quarters inside." The boy replied, getting the saddle put away and another girl took Hoseki to her stall, earning a caw from the gryphon. Denva was already headed inside, using the stable entrance to the palace. She went up to find her father in his study, already manipulating gold and silver with his power into a beautiful twisted diadem for a client of their store in town where her mother was closing up.

"Denva, there you are! Do you have the gems?" Her father, Andre Beaumont, asked as he looked up from his work. In response, his daughter dumped the jewels on his desk with a clatter, revealing a rainbow of colors from deep sapphire blue to vermilion rubies.

"Yup! All top quality too, checked myself before I got to see a preview of the circus as an early birthday present from the ringmaster!" Denva confirmed, grinning as her father raised an eyebrow.

"Really now? I take it Arcana liked the pin you made for her?" Andre asked, earning another grin.

"She promised to wear it at the show tonight!" Denva confirmed, grinning like an idiot as her father took a jeweler's glass and examined the jewels his daugther presented as she started using her abilities to play with a piece of quartz on his desk, making it form everything from a dragon to a manticore before setting it down on his desk as a chimera.

"Well, go get washed up and changed for the announcement, your mother will be back soon. We'll go down to the grand hall when she's ready." Her father instructed, earning a nod from Denva as she went to her room to do just that.

[Malik Nerio | Merchant]

Malik and his crew departed from the cirus troop with a couple of final waves. Making their way back to the cobblestone road, they walked the rest of the way up to the castle gates while chatting about the sneak peek to the circus show they had just seen.

Here, Malik pulled out a leather pad with a glistening, carved metal disk pressed onto it; a merchant's mark, and therefore the Tideseeker's identification. Most reputable merchants or traders had their own mark, so that they could stamp or otherwise mark it on goods, or to use it to ensure their identity. This helped with certifying reputable goods, as well as to help find missing items. Malik's own symbol was a crossed sword and torch, in reference to the goddess of valor that his last name referred to.

A gatekeeper guard with a hawk atop his shoulder briefly inspected the mark, nodding in allowance to let the group through.

"Thank ya much," Malik said with a lazy salute, sauntering through the gate, perhaps not without a couple of eyerolls.

Despite the Tideseeker's nonchalant attitude, he was certainly impressed by the castle grounds. The gate they had just entered was between two towers, the lower levels containing the controls to lower the heavy metal gates and serving as a guard shack, the upper levels used to patrol the top of the walls surrounding this side of the castle. The other side of the palace was just that, sitting high above the other side of Astrin's main town. Guards were able to patrol, seeing through the grand windows, balconies, and upper gardens to the areas below.

Between the walls and main buildings was a grand courtyard. The area was filled with freshly trimmed grass and carefully placed flowers and bushes. A few trees were closer to the walls, leaving the main area open and unsuffocated. A large fountain was in the center of the courtyard, where paths spurred out in different directions, such as towards the royal stables or to the military quarters. The largest path led straight to the front doors.

The group walked up to the main entrance, the wind causing the flags with royal colors to snap around gently. The sun glistened off the matching colored roofs.

Malik and the others made their way through the large hallways, down to a familiar room, the grand hall. Malik had been in there multiple times before, often presenting his finds or items he had been asked to fetch from other nations. Now, it was where the announcement was going to take place. The time having gotten closer to the hour meant others were starting to head through the open doorway, as well.

The doors, propped open, were beautiful. Not being outside to be weathered, they had more room for being used as decor, probably crafted from a rare wood. Immediately stepping into the hall, a large carpet rolled down almost the entire length of the room, only stopping before the incline of a slightly elevated area at the far end.

Floor-to-ceiling windows allowed in bright, natural lighting. However, this didn't take away from the large chandelier high above the center of the room, the many candelabra, or the massive unlit fireplace to the side of the room. All of these could be used at night to lighten the room. The ceilings were arched, with curved, wooden beams and beautiful, colored patterns looking down at the people below.

Malik glanced around, looking past nobles, castle employees, and other guests, until he spotted a familiar duo.

"You took your time," Aaron commented as the group stepped off the carpet onto the bare glossy floor.

"We got here with plenty of time to spare," Malik said with a lazy grin, waving his hand a bit as if batting away the words. "I assume you put the goods up." The blond said; the light-haired boy didn't have anything on him he didn't usually have, and Naia's bird was absent, probably flying freely outside the palace until his owner called for him.

Naia nodded. "I'm assuming Marrin will be making sure everything is in check."

Malik hummed in agreement, his wine-colored eyes looking around the room, seeing if there were any familiar faces.

[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]

While Pearl had looked around for some books on the aforementioned topic, Demitri looked at a timepiece.

"I do believe it is time to head to the great hall," He commented to Amelia. The girl had just been cleaning up some of the teacups and plates.

"Oh, right!" She said, leaving what she had gathered.

"You won't be forgetting to finish that when we get back," Demitri chided, earning an eye-roll. Amelia looked over to the other girl.

"We're heading down to the great hall in a few, if you want to come along," Amelia offered Pearl.

Denva of course was coming out of her quarters into the courtyard to check on Hoseki, this time wearing her best tunic, trousers and boots without her cloak, a diadem that her father made for her last birthday (and her mother added the jewels, a beautiful briolette cut (this shape here ) emerald set in gold to stand out against her brunette hair when she recognized the two Tideseekers.

"MALIK! MIRA!" She called, catching the attention of her parents as they came out, her mother with a Nekomata (twin tailed cat) that was black with white markings on her tail and forehead in kitten form on her shoulder.

"Friends of yours, Denva?" Lily asked, her mother glancing over with those opal blue eyes of hers and her daughter's brunette hair a more reddish shade on her head. Andre glanced over as well to see who Denva was calling out to.

"They're the two Tideseekers I told you I met over at the circus preview." Denva reminded her parents, waving the two Tideseekers over.

(the diadem looks like this by the way: and this is the cat, but with her colors reversed and the cat has green eyes)

Malik had just recognized the familiar brown hair of the Ridgestrider the crew had met earlier when she called his and Mira's names. The jeweler had freshened up from earlier, with a fancier outfit on and a gem-encrusted ornamental headband. Mira waved in response to the cheerful call of Denva.

Aaron winced slightly, not expecting the group to be made the center of attention in the room.

"Do you know them?" The light-haired cartographer inquired, looking over to Denva and who Malik could only assume were the girl's parents.

"Met her at the circus. We'll probably meet a few other faces from there soon enough," Malik guessed, a mischievous smile blinking across on his face, before making his way over to Denva, his friends following after.

"Long time no see," Malik joked to Denva before moving his attention to her parents. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance, I'm Malik Nerio." The blond brought his arm in towards himself and dipped his head in a small bow. While Malik was known for his more casual encounters in public, he definitely knew when and who to use a bit of charm with.

Andre and Lily nodded in greeting, the Nekomata waking from her nap on her owner's shoulder to look him over. The cat's name was Burakku, which meant black in her native language. Burakku clearly didn't see the Tideseekers as a threat, but did stretch herself awake with a yawn that showed her good sized fangs in warning as if to say "Don't mess with my family" in cat.

"I'm Andre Beaumont, royal jewelery maker for the palace. And this is my wife Lily. Apparently, you've already met our daughter. She has a habit of picking up friends wherever she goes. A good habit to have in court." Andre commented, making his daughter blush.

"Daaaaaaaaaaad!" She grumbled, giving him the stink eye as Burakku leapt from her mother's shoulder to her head, giving a mew of greeting to get attention. She pointed up to the cat in response.

"This is Burakku, my Mom's Nekomata. We've had him since he was a kitten! He might not be a kitsune, but he's good at keeping the lesser demons out of the house!" She told the Tideseekers, figuring she might as well introduce the cat, the feline clearly giving them a look of "You may pet me if you wish" the way cats did when they wanted to be stuck up, but friendly even if they didn't want to show how friendly they could be outside their family circle

Malik smiled differentially while the Beaumonts introduced themselves.

"I completely understand," Malik chuckled. "Making friends is one of the better qualities to have in such a line of work. I imagine having good connections is a top priority in the jewel business. I am but a merchant, but I know it's priority to have people you can trust around you." The Tideseeker finished in one of his typical humble brags; it was good to let others know his line of business for potential partnerships, but not to flash it enough to deter people before he judged their attitudes.

The attention turned towards Denva as she introduced the cat that had been previously curled around Lily's neck.

"My, she's a beauty," Malik noted, the cat's fur almost gleaming in response to Denva explaining the animal's name. The feline gave off an air of confidence but didn't seem threatening towards the newcomers. Malik didn't move closer to the cat, but Mira seemed interested.

"What a cutie," Mira cooed, holding her hand out so that her scent wafted towards Burakku in an unthreatening fashion, similar to earlier when she had approached Denva's griffin, allowing the cat to judge whether to allow the woman to pet it.

Arcana |Circus Ringleader/Perfomer|

Arcana watched her guests part, releasing a sigh as they disappeared form view. Being nice to the common folk was indeed taxing and took up a lot of precious time.

A sharp pain ran it's way across her arm, originating from her fingertips and spiraling up to her shoulder. Pulling the edge of her lapels away, Arcana glared down at the tattoo across her arm. Serpentine coils pulsated underneath her skin, as though the very tattoo itself was moving. Writhing and twisting painfully as the fangs of the beast it depicted parted further in its maw. A stark reminder of her time limit.

"Alpha." Arcana called sharply. "Keep watch over the circus. I need one of your horses."

"uh." The perfomer picked his jaw up from the floor from where he had been gawking at Mira's behind as she departed. "Beg pardon?"

"It's time to allow the animals to graze." Arcana said sharply.

Alpha looked alarmed slightly at the code phrase and nodded. "When will you be back?"

"I will have a long way to ride out. I hope before tonight performance." Arcana replied as she began to walk briskly towards the stables. "That will give me a full day to travel."
"And if you aren't back?" Alpha furrowed his brow, scampering to catch up.

"You will lead the ring in my stead." Arcana replied

Alpha snorted. "That will disappoint the young lady."

"Tell her I fell ill. I am sure you could come up with something." Arcana murmured, flinging open the stable doors.

"You know that horse isn't going to come back, right?" Alpha asked as Arcana browsed the stable.

"Likely not." Arcana stated coldly.

Alpha sighed. "It took me weeks to train them!" He whined,

"I'll board it somewhere at the end of town and "borrow" one of the local's horses. Okay?" Arcana rolled her eyes.

"Fine. Nothing happens to Beauty." Alpha crossed his arms as Arcana selected a horse and retrieved it from the stable.

"Nothing happens to Beauty." Arcana reaffirmed and mounted the animal bareback.

The Nekomata purred, butting her head against the Tideseeker's hand in a show of feline affection, letting the older girl run her fingers through her soft fur.

"Huh, Burakku isn't usually that friendly with strangers...he must smell Hoseki and Denva on you. Either that, or he's just being a cat. Nekomata are pretty much the same as regular felines. They all have their own personalities. He's usually a bit more standoffish around strangers though." Lily noted, seeing her cat greet the stranger like he'd known her his whole life.

"Yeah, Burakku normally takes at least an hour before warming up to someone. He's used to the people coming and going from the palace, and my clients coming in for custom orders. He loves kids in particular." Andre agreed, watching the cat. He figured he'd go with the feline's judgement in regards to the Tideseekers. If Burakku trusted them on top of Hoseki, that was good enough for him. He learned from his wife and daughter to trust the animals when it came to dealing with people. That tactic even saved him from a few unsavory clients over the years.

"Cats are pretty unpredictable," Malik chucked at the sight of the cat rubbing into his crewmate's hand, despite just meeting the cheerful woman. Malik noticed Naia looking at the cat from behind him. Although she was more of an avian lover, Naia was usually fascinated by uncommon pets of all sorts.

"An animal's judgment is less clouded than humans," The woman commented with a nod. "And a Nekomata's intuition is not one to doubt, I'm sure."

At that moment, Marrin walked up to rejoin the group. She nodded silently to the crew, showing that she had finished up with the horse and moving the items. Her attire, too, helped identify her as an Ashreaper in contrast to the seaside dwellers in the group.

"Pardon me," Malik smoothly moved on, sliding out of the way as if to present his friends. "These are my wonderful colleagues. I believe Denva met the lovely Mira, Marrin, and Kai earlier, but these are my other dearest friends, Aaron Meri and Naia Bidane."

Aaron seemed to hold himself back from chiding his boss for introducing them in such a hammy manner, but instead politely inclined his head, studying each family member, lingering for a moment on Denva. Malik noted that the younger man was close to the Ridgestrider's age.

"I have heard a lot about the Beaumonts. I know my father's Meri Port Company has purchased from your family in the past." Aaron mentioned, his voice pleasant, but Malik knew the boy didn't much like bringing up his family's business. But having been introduced as such, the boy went along with it for conversation.

"It's nice to meet all of you. I take it you were called for the announcement too?" Andre greeted, watching Mira petting their Nekomata. Burakku was happily accepting attention from the Tideseeker while Andre turned his attention to the boy introduced as Aaron.

"Yes, I remember, I believe your father was buying an engagement ring or some such. Though I don't remember the exact details." Andre told Aaron, his wife raising an eyebrow but not saying anything as Denva grinned at her friends.

"It's nice to meet all of you. And I think I've heard of the Meri family. Don't they own a few shipping businesses in the port cities like Sapphire and Foxlaga?" Denva asked Aaron, looking him over. He looked to be about her age. She considered him and mentally compared him to Sniper, the Wispweaver from the circus. She couldn't tell if he was wealthy or not, but somewhere in between. Definitely from a merchant family though. Sniper was a Circus kid, also about her age and had dark hair while Aaron's was lighter. More of a white blond from being at sea for so long.

"Ah, yes," Malik responded good-naturedly. "Luckily we were able to make it. We only just got back into town early this morning."

"I believe so," Aaron said in response at the mention of the engagement ring, trying to maintain a calming air. Malik glanced at the younger boy. Aaron had a strained relationship with his father. Malik didn't know the entirety of it, but the boy's father was controlling and wanted the younger boy to take over the business later on, not taking into account the boy's own thoughts and wishes on nearly anything. It didn't help that the elder Meri had not stayed married to Aaron's mother, who was a much more understanding figure in Meri's life. The separation had led to an all-around rocky family situation, on top of the other strains.

"Why, yes," Aaron moved on to answer Denva, slight surprise sneaking into his tone. "The company is well known around portsides, but it is not too often that others take much note."

"You should be able to come at least for the initial announcement," Demitri responded to Pearl's hesitation, walking towards the door as he spoke. Amelia began to follow after, the spring in her step causing her braids to lift and fall against her shoulders.

"If they go into something more private, then that will be later into the declaration. They will dismiss anyone that's not supposed to be there, at that point." Demitri explained matter-of-factly.

"Perhaps we should conversation inside? We really should get going if we're going to be on time for the announcement." Andre suggested, Lily laughing at his hint.

"Oh Andre, it's not starting for at least another half hour! You're such a worrier!" Lily teased, Burakku now back on her shoulder, the nekomata satisfied with his investigation of the newcomers. He settled on her shoulder, purring in content as he rejoined his owner.

He looks annoyed and slightly on edge with how many newcomers has come and gathered in the area as well as the many critters of various sizes acompanying them. A sneer was barely kept subtle. But like certain bird, while he kept his keen eyes on potential competitor, he's also preening and triving on attention; Marching through the room confidently with chest puffed up, armor cape and sword put on show like the colorful bird feather, only for him it's all back, everything about him tries to screaming 'look at me I'm important!'

Aaron nodded in understanding at Denva's explanation.

"Haha, yes," Malik smiled in response to Andre and Lily. "But being early always ensures a good seat. We may all be able to sit together, yet." Malik said, looking over his numerous crew members. Most nodded, while a few others looked like they didn't care even if they were placed at opposite ends of the room from the Tideseeker. Malik almost pouted at Marrin and Aaron's reaction before remembering the other company next to them.

"Ah, where are my manners. After you," Malik said, holding his arm out for the Beaumonts to enter the room first.

[Demitri Lockehart | Librarian]

Demitri led the other two down the hall towards the grand hall. The area had already filled up rather significantly, with the available seats already hosting a gathering of people. It was a bit early, but people were excited to finally hear big news since the queen's death. Towards the back was a table of refreshments and food, some guests milling around as they conversed.

Upon entering the room, Demitri noticed Terri first and foremost. The head of the guard was always alert, watching each newcomer with an intimidating, steady eye. His gruff demeanor wasn't Demitri's favored style, but it certainly kept away a certain type of riff-raff, which Demitri could approve of.

Olivia Gelast was married to a prominant merchant named Oscar Sozen, but he had died at sea so she now had remarried to a man named Lucas Russen. So now her name was Olivia Russen and Althea was known as Althea Gelast-Russen. Denva was eager to introduce the Tideseekers to her cousin.

"I mentioned my cousin had wanted to get more intimidating mounts, so I mentioned to her that the circus was planning on selling Kitty and Purry when they were done with this tour. Arcana |Circus Ringleader/Perfomer|

Arcana flew over the rocky terrian, her hair whipping past her, twisting and curling in the wind. The chestnut steed upon which she rode gave a breathy snort with every thundering hoofstep against the ground. She had "borrowoed" the horse from a farm not too far away from the edge of the city. It wasn't too difficult. She merely levitated the poor thing out from within the stables, calmed the reasonably spooked horse and took off. She fully intended to return the animal afterward... assuming Aztec did not eat it first which was the most likely situation and the reason why she could not just use one of the circus mares.

Fortunately for the horse, its fate would not be so grim. Destiny had a funny way of meddling with the lives of creatures- not just humans. And as Arcana rode out of the city, darting towards the surrounding woodland, a shadow casted over head. Something blocking out the sun, sending waves of rippling shadow onto the landscape below.
Craning her neck up and squinting against the harsh outline of the sun, Arcana recognised a familiar winged silhouette soaring directly above her below the cloud line.

Pulling back on the horse, Arcana gave the verbal command for the animal to slow. And it did, first to a canter, then a trot, and finally a walk. The winged figure swooped lowly, sending a brush of cool breeze past Arcana as it landed in front.

Rearing its head back, the horse whinnied in disapproval at the sudden appearance of the winged human, stepping back nervously.

Arcana eyes Angel as the young girl nervously gazed up at her.

"Is something wrong, little love?" Arcana purred as she placed a calming hand over her mount's flank.

Angel shook her head and extended a piece of parchment towards Arcana.

Bending over, Arcana took it from the young girl, scanning over it. The letter was addressed to her, written in Alpha's careless handwriting. Her eyes widened slightly as she read it. A scowl creased over Arcana's lips. She muttered something under her breath then gazed back towards Angel.

"Change of plans." She sighed, shoulders slumping. "Aztec is going to have to wait."
As if in response to her words, a spike of pain extended along the length of her arm.
Arcana rolled her eyes. "I have more important matters to attend to. Archangel, I am going to need you to return this horse to the lovely farmer whom I borrowed it from. Can you handle that?"

The little girl nodded.

"Good girl." Arcana dismounted and Angel approached.

The horse, having occupied itself with grazing seemed entirely unbothered by her presence.

Sighng, Arcana tucked the leter into a coat pocket.

Cracking her wrists, Arcana took a few steps back and closed her eyes. The grass and flowers began to float upwards below her feet. Small pieces of dirt began to rise, ciricling around her as Arcana began to lower the gravity of the area in which she stood. Slowly, she began to rise upwards. In a zero-G enviornment, Arcana had no ability to physically move and adjust her direction. She could do something much better. Far away from the city, Arcana was able to float into the clouds, using the clouds to hide her powers from prying eyes.

Then, Arcana adjusted the direction of the gravity and returnedf it to normal. Now, instead of falling down vertically, she began to fall horizontally. Towards the towering castle in the distance.

Arcana poised her body, lengthening herself out as much as possible to gain the least air resistance. Falling horizontally was a weird sensation and definitely took some getting used to but she was well practiced and learnt to control the direction of her fall by adjustinbg the gravity field around her ever so slightly.

One of her favourite party tricks was falling upwards. It broke all logic, broke everything that was consistent and true within the world.

Eventually Arcana hit her terminal velocity and was unable to exceed her speed. Fortunately though, her terminal velocity was about 3 times faster than the fastest horse alive. She knew she couldn't afford to be late and miss her last chance to stake her claim to the throne.

Eventually, she found herself nearing the palace. She readjusted the gravity around her, reducing it immensely as she slowed and came to an eventual stop. She quickly found herself gritting her teeth, trying to keep focus on achieving the perfect gravity to maintain bouancy within the air so she neither increased or decreased her altitude. It was very similiar to trying to float in one spot under the water by increasing or decreasing the air that filled your lungs.

Gazing down at the palace below, Arcana made quick work of lowering herself so fast she was hardly a blur to any onlookers. A large bird, perhaps. Arcana caught herself once she disappeared behind a tower. Resting her fingers against a window, she used her powers to unlock the mechanism from the inside and push open the gated shutters. She pulled herself inside and dropped the gravity field completely.

Panting slightly from the strain and calculated concentration it took to levitate oneself, Arcana braced herself against the stone wall. Then she began her trek down the spiral staircase. Casting her gaze out of another window, she noticed a gathering of people in the courtyard. They all seemed to be filing inside. By now, she was fairly close to the ground.

Arcana climbed into the window sill, then jumped.

She was able to grab onto a terrace then lowered herself from there into the inner courtyard.

Casually, she strolled up into the crowd, following everyone else inside. She did not care that her bright marroon and gold circus outfit stuck out from the rest of the gentry like a sore thumb. She just had to act like she belonged and if anyone questioned her... her hand slowl drifted up towards the necklace that hung from her neck. If anyone questioned her she had ample evidence to support her claim.

"I do remember you bringing her up," Malik said. However, he had completely forgotten who Kitty and Purry were until Denva mentioned them being the manticores from the circus. He blinked it off upon connecting the dots together. "Ah, right. I'm sure that two will be happy to find a home."

The group went back inside. There were still some open clusters of seats. Many had been filled with royal staff members, although even among the maids and butlers, they were high ranking, such as the late queen's handmaiden and the head of the butlers. There was an assortment of entire families, though more on the side of wealth, such as the Beaumonts. There didn't seem to be many commoners that weren't at least employed by the castle. The announcement wasn't one of secrecy, but it also wasn't for everyone to participate in, it seemed.

"Do you see your cousin?" Malik asked, not sure who to search for. He thought he caught the familiar sight of a red-and-gold attire, but the figure had disappeared among people seating themselves before Malik could place it.

Terri

As a guard, seeing someone like Arcana dropping down from the window would set Terri off imediatally and Terri is a brilliant guard, he has to be, both strikingly good in combat and in intelligent, a young sharp brilliant mind that would detect and react against foe with powers even if he lacks one--

Unfortunately, this is not one of those time and he missed her entraced completely, too keen on looking for any suspicious behavior from the guess and not the window sill. He hasn't spot her in the crowd too, at least not yet.

Denva Beaumont

Denva scanned the crowd, easily spotting the bejeweled hair of her cousin. Which was easy enough considering you could use her for aerial signals.

"There she is! ALTHEA!" Denva called, the girl turning to reveal slightly darker skin, golden eyes and a bright grin when she saw her cousin at the front of the rows of chairs set up for visitors.

"DENVA! OVER HERE!" Althea called, her jeweled hair sparkling. Denva gesturing for the Tideseekers to follow.

"Hey Denva, who are your friends?" Her aunt, a red haired Ridgestrider while her husband was a former Wispweaver. Their names were Olivia and Oscar Sozen, and they were aligned with both groups of families.

"Hi Aunt Olivia! Hi Uncle Oscar! I'd like you to meet Malik and Mira, I met them at the circus preview today and the rest are members of their crew, but I'll let them tell you who's who. I was able to give that pin I made to Arcana herself and she promised to wear it in the show tonight!" Denva reported, earning a grin from her cousins.

"Oh wow! That's impressive!" Oscar replied, glancing at the group of Tideseekers. He could tell right away that they were good people. He had a sense for these things despite his own abilities revolved around weather manipulation while his wife's and daughters were Golem based. Which came in handy when they needed to move heavy things in their warehouses.

"Oh by the way! After the show, Arcana said that they were planning on selling two of their Manticores, Kitty and Purry! I met them and they may look like big ol' brutes, but they're as sweet as their names imply!" Denva told her cousin who lit up.

"We have got to talk to the ringmaster! Can we get the manticores? Can we daddy!?" Althea asked, earning a laugh from her father.

"Well, we'll see. we'll see if we can talk to Arcana after the circus tonight when we go." Oscar promised, ruffling his litlte girl's hair.

Malik Nerio | Merchant
[Malik Nerio | Merchant]
Denva quickly picked out her cousin from the crowd. Althea, as Denva had called out, had jewels adorning her hair, adding to the ease of spotting her among such an assortment of people.
Malik's group offered their names politely one by one, with varying levels of enthusiasm, ranging from the cheerfulness of Kai and politeness of Naia, to the gruffer Marrin and reserved Aaron. Malik and Mira skipped the introductions, Denva already having pointed them out.
"Your family seems very inclined towards animals," Aaron commented to Denva after the mention of the manticores. Malik agreed silently; paired with Denva's griffin and her mother's nekomata, it seemed many in the Beaumont and extended family members had pets or steeds of some sort. Malik was a free-spirit and the idea of permanently being tied down to anything other than his ambitions didn't appeal at this point in his life, but he allowed his crew to have the opportunity for a small animal that can live the life of constantly being on the go at sea, such as Naia's bird.
Malik watched as a few official-looking characters walked towards the head of the room. They seemed to be conversing amongst themselves in hushed tones as the room started settling down. One appeared to be a chaplain in his later years, another perhaps a stern-looking viscount, and a few high ranking barons or lords. Malik blinked a bit in surprise. The announcement was important, but that was a lot of high ranking officials, at least in place of actual royalty.
