WhirlPools are here! (adoptables)
It's time to welcome this devious dragon to your homes, I guess lol.
Species: Whirl Pool
Shot Limit: 4
Jaw Strength: 8.7/10
Fire Type: solid CO2 (dry ice)
Average length: 16 feet
This dragon has the speed, stealth, intelligence, and deadliness of a Strike class dragon. Though, it spends most of its life deep in the ocean. It breathes a solid form of carbon dioxide, a gas at standard temperature and pressure with the chemical formula CO2 (also known as dry ice). It breathes this chemical wherever it smells or hears potential prey. The chemical does the rest of the work by freezing and choking the fish to death. The Whirl Pool will store its food in an underwater cave, where it will stay fresh in the solid CO2 for many hours.
The dry ice method has one problem, however. The bubbling of the chemical in the salt water draws lots of attention from other sea creatures. After lots of time, the Whirl Pools learned to coat their dens in more solid CO2, which burns any fish that touches it.
Whirl Pools are the fastest known sea creature, reaching speeds up to 1600 km/h in the ocean.
On land, the Whirl Pool can breath like it can under water. This means it can fly. Since water is 784 more dense than air, it's wings move quicker in the air since it is a lot easier. You would think that the Whirl Pool could reach 1254400 km/h, but no, it's lack of aerodynamics slows it down to only 2300 km/h. Though, that's still extremely fast (almost as fast as a Night Fury). But, why does this dragon fly? Whirl Pools are actually prey to many sea dragons like the Scauldron and the Shockjaw. It flees quickly by flapping its wings and moving its tail like a propeller very quickly. Though, due to its silent and cunning behavior, it thankfully doesn't get into trouble all that much.
Whirl Pools are rarely seen out of the water, but happen to encounter many viking ships. They get easily irritated by the loud disruptive sounds, and attack very quickly. Their aerial attacks are stealthy and fast. They usually gang up with other Whirl Pools and fly in a circle above their target, blasting dry ice at whatever they can. This usually ends up in mysterious viking disappearances.
When it comes to being tamed, Whirl Pools are very open at first, but one bad move and you're basically already dead. Though, after a week or so of no mistakes, this dragon trusts you completely and will even hidefor you. While being ridden, this dragon loves to test your loyalty by letting you have full directional control.

Backstory: (am thinking of one, will post it soon)
Ok here it is...
Comet was in a bad mood. I dont know what brought it on, she just did not want to go out flying. She kept turning her back on me and blowing smoke out of her noise. I knew I had to go and see my friends on Berk (as Comet and I live on Icestorm island) and all my other dragons were no where to be seen. They dont live with me and Comet, but more often that not they visit alot and are always there when I need them. Anyway on this day none of them were around and as I said Comet was not in a good mood. Therefore I had to use my old boat to get t Berk. I hadnt used a boat to travel anywhere since Comet was too young to fly long journies, but it seemed in alright conditon so I set off in my boat, leaving Comet behind. I have learnt the hard way it is not a good idea to take an bad tempered dragon on a wooden boat. An hour into the journey I heard a funny noise below the waves. I looked over the side of the boat but couldnt see anything. I heard the noise again and some ice floated up from the deep. Then I saw it. A scaldron? Why is a scaldron spitting ice, can they even do that. I saw it look up at me and it came swimming up and stuck its head out the water. This wasnt just any old scaldron, it was my first scaldron I had bonded with. I looked at him confused about where the ice had come from, but I let it go thinking he maybe just broke some off from the bottom of the sea. I asked him for a lift, which of course he would help me with. He moved to the back of the boat and started pushing. After about five minutes he stopped pushing the boat and disapeared under the water, more ice started to appear, and then I saw it. Smaller dragons came flying out of the water chased by Mercury. They were the cause of all this ice, although it didnt look like normal ice. I saw Mercuy shoot his hot water blast at the smaller dragons, hitting one causing it to fall into the middle of the boat. He followed it, I yelled at him knowing if a scauldron landed in the boat we weould sink. It was only a small boat. He stopped above the boat and screamed at me. He wanted this dragon. "No, Mercury. Stop, leave these dragons alone, if you are hungary go and catch some fish". He pulled a face at me and went splashing back into the water. Great I thought, no lift to Berk. I slowly walked over to the dragon that had landed in my boat. It lifted its head up and shook it. Then it stretched its wings and stood up. It had just been knocked out, no long lasting damage done. It looked at me and screamed at me. The other little dragons turned in the air and started flying back. Mercury appeared at the back of the boat again and shot water at the flying dragons. He wasnt tryign to catch them this time, just protect me. He looked at the one on the boat. "No mercury. I need to show it I mean no harm". I held out my hand to Mercury to show him to stop. He put his head against it and then started to push the boat towards Berk again. I looked back at the smaller dragon and held out my hand. It looked amazed, I had just stopped a predaotr from eating it. It seemed so nervous to let me touch it. I sat down, closed my eyes, still with my hand held out. The next thing I felt was its head against my hand. I opened my eyes as it came closer and layed down next to me. It still seemed nervous of Mercury, but now they seem to get one. Mercury is not allowed to hurt that small gang of dragons, and infact they now work as a team to catch more fish. Who knew a scauldron and Whirlpools could work together XD
As for Comet, she was in an even worse mood when I got back to her on Icestorm island. It was almost as if she was saying "How could you leave me behind", to which I would remind her that she coud fly and that she had left me to go out on my own without her. She was just having a bad mood week but she is back to her normal self now. (I think she was annoyed because we hadnt been going for our morning flights due to bad weather, and of course as all animals think, it was my fault for bad weather :p)
Could you please save number 5? I will post the form as soon as possible.
Kira and Moonwish were flying over the ocean. They had somehow ended up in a completely different archipelago than the one they came from (aka the archipelago where Berk and the other tribes are located). The air there was so warm, the water was clear and had a beutiful greenish-blue tiny to it. They had already visited some of the islands there, and the tribes that lived there were friendly enough. The dragons there had different colorations than the ones from home, and it felt nice to get so much sun on you every single day.
Kira looked down. She could see a pop of exotic looking Scauldrons swimming beneath them. "Hey Moonwish, wanna take a closer look at the Scauldrons?" She asked her dragon. The Night Fury purred in response with her soft voice. "Alrighty then, i take that as a yes". They got closer to the surface of the water, and looked at the Scauldrons in their beuty. But suddenly Moonwish started pulling up and flying higher. "Hey what's wrong bud?" She asked her. But she didn't get any further when suddenly a big, beutiful green blue Scauldron jumped out of the water, the drops flying everywhere as the magnificent creature dove back into the water. Several other Scauldrons started doing that too, jumping out of the water breaking the surface, and then diving down with a big splash. "Wooow..." she said in amazement. Moonwish just looked at the show with a small smile on her face. "Hey, let's race 'em shall we?" She asked her. Moonwish nodded with a smile on her face, and dove down to the same height as the Scauldrons were jumping at. They weaved through the jumping dragons, getting wet and having lots of fun. The playing and racing lasten for a small while, until they had to stop before they would get completely soaked. "Okay okay, let's get to land and get dried up" she said, still laughing. Moonwish gave an agreeing gurgling sound, and they flew to the island that was right in front of them.
When they had landed, they built a campfire and caught a few fish to fill up their hunger. They watched the Scauldrons swim by, and then looked at the beutiful view they had to the ocean. It was quite nice and calm, until suddenly the sound of wingbeats, fireballs and dragon cries filled the air. "What is that?!" She exclamined and stood up from her sitting place. Moonwish stood up as well and looked out to the ocean. The same Scauldrons they had seen earlier were now chasing a completely unfamiliar dragon. The Scauldrons shot theirboiling hot water, and the new dragon shot something that looked like ice. "C'mon Moonwish. We gotta break up the fight" she said and hopped on Moonwish's back. The flew up in the air, and dodged a few water blasts from the Scauldron pod. Moonwish shot a few plasma blasts at them, which got them to separate a bit. The weird dragon with no eyes and no legs faced their direction, and growled at them not knowing if they were a threat or not. Moonwish gave a small roar at it to warn about a Scauldron that was right behind it. It turned around, and got a big splash of biologinen hot water on it's face. It winced, and started falling towards the ocean. "Moonwish now!". Moonwish flew the faster she could, and grabbed the dragon with her paws. "Good job! Let's get it to safety before those Scauldrons boil us alive". They flew quickly into the dense forest of the island, with a pack of angry Scaudrons after them. Luckily for them that the forest was too dense for a giant dragon like a Scauldron to fit in.
"We must... Get the herbs from the... Hurry or...". The Whirl Pool could hear voices echo around her. She was scared. "Where am i? What happened? Why... What is this... Feeling?". Her face felt like it was burning, and at the same time like something was stinging it. But after a small moment of just staying still, the pain dissapeared completely. "But... How?" It thought. It decided to try and get up. It wasn't the easiest task, since it was still very tired. But, it managed to get up somehow. But when it did get up, strange noises were coming from her left side. She smelled the air, and knew that it was a human. But this humans smell was different from the other humans she had encountered. It smelled another smell as well. A dragon. Although it couldn't exactly pinpoint what dragon it was, it did know that it was the same dragon from earlier. They were coming right towards it, and it started charging up it's ice breath to unleash an attack, when suddenly the human ran up to her, and held something right on her nose. She smelled it, and it was the most calming and sweet smell she had ever smelt. It made her feel... Happy. She smelled it even more, and even took a small bite of what the human was giving to her. It tasted so good.
"Whew, good that the Dragon Nip worked on it. Otherwise i would be a popsicle right now". Moonwish just sighted in relief. Kira slowly took the rest of the Dragon Nip away, and held out her hand. The dragon just stayed still for a moment, before touching her Palm with it's snout.
Which one you want:
Number 2 please!
Thanks for making these guys into adoptables!
I'm seriously behind on adoption stories, as there have been a lot of really great ones on the forums lately. Sooo ... do you take reserves and do you mind if it' end up being a long while? Like, a week plus? Sorry I'm really slow because of RL and just coming up with ideas...
If not, I totally understand!
I totally understand! But your egg offer sounds pretty good! It can hang out in my doggie until it's ready to hatch in a story :) What do you need from me for an egg?
Age (egg, baby, adult, etc.): Presently an Egg, but an adult later
number: Custom, I guess? Or one that's available at the time I finish a story. However you want to work that!
Colors for the egg, eventual adult or both? Actually I really like #3, so something similar, perhaps with markings of your choice in cyan, and ear appendage tips also in cyan. Or whatever you want :) As far as the egg, I guess reflective of the colors of the adult?
BTW, where do Whirl Pools lay their eggs? Do they care for them?
Also, they can fly and come out of the water, but is it only for short amounts of time like the Scauldron, or they can stay out for extended periods of time?
I had meant similar to #3 with the purply color and the orangy color, then cyan markings and ear tips. But this one looks cool, too! Whatever you want to do, I'm happy with.
But I'm a little confused - I thought you were going to give me an egg until I can get a Backstory up (which will be awhile ...)? Again, whatever you want goes, of course!
I hope you are getting better!
Unfortunately my confusion is still here!
So I just wrote up a very short story to satisfy the requirements for a WhirlPool to avoid further confusion. Here's the fully completed form:
Age (egg, baby, adult, etc.): Adult
Number: Custom - similar to Batch 1, Number 3. Specifically, a purplish body with orangish wings and fins. Cyan ear tips and markings/ stripes.
**If you do not want to alter the one you already did below, I'm totally fine with that, and will gladly take her as is! Just let me know what you decide. Thanks you!
The young Whirlpool dragon hung about her lair, floating outside the icy not-ice carvern, deep deep in the chilly sea. She was neither tired nor hungry, but rather bored instead. There was no one around who wanted to eat her - which was just fine - but not very exciting.
So the idle sea-dragon wiggled her tail round and round, and flapped her sleek water-dragon wings, and ascended toward the far away surface to look for something fun to do.
As she got closer she could feel the water around her rocking to and fro. The surface sounded rather loud, like something was happening. The Whirlpool was not fond of loud noises, but often it was so at the surface, as the water up top sloshed against the air above it.
The dragon hesitated just for a moment and then floated onto the surface. The air spoke mightily, roaring about, and the sea heaved high and low. She felt very small stings peppering her hide from above. The little dragon was surprised, and tried to nip at her back from the onslaught of censored. She blasted her not-ice breath into the sky, only to feel the censored become sharper. This was not fun.
She dove back down under the sea surface and thought. She did not smell another dragon or any other creature around, only the air and salty sea and water a little less salty in the air. Was the sky crying? She swam back up and poked her head out. The sea swelled and dipped. The sky's tears prickled her skin. Actually, they kind of tickled. She came out of the sea a little more and spread her wings across the surface. The sea rolled up high like a watery mountain, then fell down low like a valley made of water. The sea dragon floated along. The tears tickled her back side. Actually this was fun!
The Whirlpool dragon surfed the stormy waves in the chilly rain storm. Sometimes scary things were actually not so scary after all.
I've created a full story here:
I'll PM you, as well!
Ack, I'm late! Save number four for me! (I think that's the one. The one with white wings!)
I'm kind of confused... is number 2 available or adopted? First it was reserved, then Lumina posted the form for it, so why does it say it's available on the Available Dragons post? Just wondering, I wouldn't want to sound mean.
Reserve number 5 for me please! I'm filling the form right now!
Age (egg, baby, adult, etc.): Adult
Backstory: Lexa (my OC) found her egg in a dragon hunter camp. For years, Lexa was detirmined to save all dragons from the dragon hunters. So, just like usual, she saved this WhirlPool egg. When it hatched, it was love at first sight. They were destined to be family. Even though Lexa never liked the water, she loved this magnificent tidal dragon. They'd be together for the whole day, except in the nights, when Lez went for a swim. And ever since they met, Lez has been growing, and growing, and then reached adult stage. They started fighting the dragon hunters together. And now they were both detirmened to free every single dragon from the claws of the dragon hunters.
Can you reserve #1 for me?
Age (egg, baby, adult, etc.): Adult
( Sorry if this isn't all that great. I'm not that great at writing backstories.)
The blue dragon breathed its dry ice at the trappers, taking out some, but there were more and more coming. No matter how many he knocked out, it seemed that there were an infinite amount of them. The trappers made a circle around him, preventing him from running away. Some held bows with dragon root arrows, their weapons aimed at him. Two held a big net, looking about ready to lunge and capture the beast.
" Keep still, you rascal! You should know that you don't stand a chance." Their leader said, who wielded a sword, pointing it at the blue dragon.
He may had been surrounded, but he still had another way to escape these fools. He flared his wings and gills, hissing at the men, before starting to take to the skies. He would not let them take him away.
" Don't let it get away!"
Suddenly, arrows with green tips came flying at the Whirlpool. There were so many that it was impossible to dodge them all. The blue dragon spiraled and flipped, dodging as many as possible. A sharp object struck him in the neck, sending jolts of pain down his spine. Unable to let out a desperate roar because his species just couldn't do that, he fell back down to the ground with a thump.
The trappers gathered around the downed dragon, laughing and celebrating their little victory. He had put up a fight, but he was just no match for them. Exhausted, all he could do was watch as these trappers wrapped him up in the big net. The leader yanked the arrow out of his neck, followed by a cry from the Whirlpool.
" Load him onto the ship. We set sail for Auction Island immediately."
As he opened his eyes, bright light blinded him. He had been without water for a while now, making his scales feel as dry as a Sand Wraith's. He perked his head up, only to have it hit something metal above. He groaned, then hissed in annoyance.
He was in fact on Auction Island, where unfortunate captured dragon were brought and sold to people willing to pay high prices for them. He had been here before, so seeing the stands several yards away brought back memories, all dark ones. He turned his head, spotting two trappers heading his way. When they arrived at his cage, he snarled and snapped at their hands that had gotten too close. They pulled their hands away just in time; hopfully they would recieve the message of to never get close to this beast.
" So, this is the Whirlpool that Ryker was talk about? It's a precious treasure, indeed. Buyers will pay very high prices for a dragon such as this." The first trapper said.
The second nodded in agreement. " I, the beast nearly took my head off last night. He doesn't play around." He gave the Whirlpool a frightened look. The blue dragon gave him a death glare in return, sending chills down his spine.
" Oh, here come the buyers." The first said, pointing at the group of heading towards the stands.
" Welcome everyone! We are proud to present to you today's offers. First, we'll start with this beauty, a Whirlpool." The announcer...announced...to the eager buyers. " He is a fiesty one indeed. Only the toughest man can own one of these. So, let's start with one hundred gold." It was a rather high price, but the trappers just wanted gold.
The blue dragon heared many people shout out prices, increasing as more people offered a price, waving their bags of money in the air.
" One hundred fifty!"
" Two hundred!"
"Two twenty five!"
" Sold to you, good sir! Have a nice day."
The eager buyer handed over his bag of money, then walked over to the cage with a smug grin on his face. The guards loaded the cage onto the man's ship, before bidding him farewell. Once they were away from the island, the man revealed his face to the growling dragon.
It wasn't a man, but a sixteen year old girl with purple war paint on her face. She had sparkling purple eyes, and was wearing a disguise just to fool the trappers. " Shh, I am not going to hurt you. I am here to help." She slowly unlocked the cage, before a few steps back from the cage, allowing the dragon to crawl out of it. It still seemed uneasy, but much more calm. Perhaps he could trust this human.
" Webs. Do you like that name?"
The Whirlpool cocked his head to the side.
" I'll take that as a yes."
Age (egg, baby, adult, etc.): adult
Backstory: StormcutterStar found Marino while he was being chased by a Shockjaw. She was riding her Sand Wraith, Shadow, so they sent the Shockjaw away with a few warning blasts. After that, the dragon rider thought she would never see Marino again, but she noticed the WhirlPool following her as she headed back to Berk. Understanding that the dragon she had helped wanted to be with her, she decided to bond with him and start training the beautiful WhirlPool.
(I think donnala posted the form before me though...)
I know about the 8-hours thing, but what I meant is that donnala has already posted what looks like a completed form for number 5 (above Buddyfan1's post). I might be wrong...
I so want one of these!
um, i guess baby?
Pearl walked to the snoggletog eve party at the twins house with her dragon snowdust in silence.
Carl whistled a happy tune beside her. "how can you be so cheery?" Pearl finally asked. "anything the twins invite anyone over for means trouble." Carl shrugged. "true. but this IS the first time ive been invited to a party after all." Zander nudged him and sent him barreling into a pile of snow. "hey!" Carl grumbled. "i wanted to get to the party looking NICE zander, not like...."
"a stable boy?" Pearl giggled when he glared at her. "NOT. FUNNY." of course Pearl burst into laughter. "come on." she snickered. "lets get to the party before snowdust decides to join you." the party at the twins house was actually very uneventful. sure, it was still loud and roudy, but nothing super serious. pearl stirred whatever the weird blue green punch was in her cup. maybe they were saving whatever their big prank was for last.
slowly, the visitors drained away untill it was just her, carl, and the twins in the house. tuff disapeared into a back room, while ruff told pearl censored great it was that she had come. "we have a little suprise for you." she told her. pearl wasnt very sure, but it looked like ruff had snickered. great. "i bet carl is in on it too." she thought. "after all, it IS kind of his thing." Tuff came back, carrying a large box. he handed it to pearl and stepped back next to his sister.
she eyed the box suspisously. it wasnt that big, but there were some nasty things the twins did to eachother and others in small packages. "go on." carl urged her. "open it." Pearl gulped. she couldnt be rude. she squeezed her eyes shut and pulled the ribbon holding the box closed. the twins and carl ran and hid behind an overturned table. pearl opened the box. inside, sat a perfectly harmless dragon egg.
pearl raised one eyebrow. "really guys? THIS is what you wanted to prank me with? a dragon egg?" then it happened. they egg cracked. hen again. and suddenly it exploded and sent pearl flying across the room. she sat there, stunned for a second. carl and the twins burst out from behind the table and started laughing. pearl shook her head and blinked. the room was coated in some sort of ice, including her. it wasnt very strong ice, but it was cold all the same. snowdust just sniffed and stuck out her tounge, as if nothing had happened.
"loki'ed!" carl hollered at the top of his lungs. "i hope you like your new hairdo!" pearl stiffened. she pulled out her hand mirror to look at her hair. it was always unruly, so she had kept it in a neat braid. it was now coated with the white ice, slicked back the way the egg had exploded. pearl scowled. she threw her mirror down and stomped out of the room. snowdust ran after her, whimping.
"not now snowdust." she grumbled. of all the things carl had pulled, this had gone too far. it took her hours to comb and briad her hair the way it was. now it would take weeks with this ice! snowdust nuzzled her leg. pearl looked down at her, annoyed. "what is it thats so...." she stopped. in her mouth was a small orange and white colored dragon. the baby whimped and churned its legs in the air.
pearls heart melted when she saw the baby. "how could i forget about the baby?" she scooped it up and cradled it in her arms. the baby cooed and snuggled against her. pearl stroked its head. "aww, isnt it the cutest thing?" snowdust sneezed as if to say yes.
"hey pearl!" someone called. pearl turned around to see carl running after her. "im sorry i made you mad pearl." he apoligized. "it was just meant to be a joke." pearl smiled. "why would i be mad? in fact, i have a little gift for you." her smiled disapeared. "get him snowdust!" snowdust bawed and barreled into him, knocking him into a giant snowdrift. "aaaahhhhh!" he shreeked. snowdust grinned and started covering him in slobbery kisses.
"AAAAAAAHHHHH!!! ZANDER, PEARL, ANYONE, HELP MEEE!!!! IM DROUNDING IN DRAGON SLOBBER!!!!" pearl smirked. "nah, i think we'll just leave you there for awhile." she called to zander. "come on zander, lets let carl have a little alone time with snowdust." "what??? NO! dont leave me here!!!!" pearl and zander walked off torwards pearls hut. she hugged the little bundle in her arms. "i think ill name you icefire."
