The Trial of Riders ~ 9 Spot Httyd RP
The hybrid had taken a partial seat with his rider still on his back as she watched the other team joke about this being Valhalla, and a few more riders stumble across the finish line. That looked like it was about the right number. She patted Draugr's head, completely oblivious that one of the riders was now disqualified. Ah, well.
When another rider, the Nadder girl, answered for her team after they finished messing around, Bryn nodded pleasantly to them. "That's good, we wouldn't want to escape to Valhalla just yet." She replied and added in a lopsided smirk for emphasis.
"Nice to meet you, Paz." She said after the Nadder girl announced herself. So, Bryn knew two names now. Stormy and Paz. Draugr tipped his head to the side when Stormy draped herself over her skrill, and the wraith pushed himself to his feet and stalked over to them. He gave Stormy a good, albeit hesitant, sniff and then nudged the head of the skrill a little higher so that the rider could get some better footing. Draugr always was a rather oblivious-to-the-desires-of-others kinda dragon, and he didn't even think about the possibility of Hurricane wanting some personal space.
Suddenly the new girl with the hybrid dragon came over and said hi. Westra quickly rushed over to introduce herself. "Hello! I'm Westra! What's your name?" As Geminia walked over to investigate the new dragon.
Nightshade suddenly jerked up her head as Banshee ducked under her tails. She looked behind her eyes wide. Banshee looked back up her and leapt into her back playing with her ear spikes. Nightshade blinked and slowly turned her head over to Darguar who also seemed to want to play whilst Banshee was nibbling on her ears. She shook herself with a playful growl, trying to dislodge the flightmare, but no no avail.
Nightshade lifted one of her prehensile tails and used it to wrap around the Flightmares body. She lifted him off her back and creened around looking at him. Then she opened her mouth and roared loudly (but playfully) in his face before dropping Banshee.
((I say wait a few more hours, we don't need to rush or this RP will be over very quickly.))
Banshee replied to Nightshade's roar by dropping into the grass and rolling around happily, his tongue lolle dut like a dog. Nightshade leaned in and sniffed Banshee as he left out a bit of his mist. The stuff got in her nose causing her to sneeze. Nightshade shook her head, only to discover she couldnt move her nose. Nightshade shook her head again and rubbed her nose, unable to sneeze.
It wore off quickly due to the lightness of it and Nightshade sneezed into the grass. Banshee chortled as he walked up to inspect Nher pincers. Nightshade opened and closed one. They werent as sharp as talons but they were stronger. They almost compared to her jaw strength, and as a strike class dragon, it wa vice-like. The Triple Stryke slowly extended her pincher then quickly snapped it shut with a clack.
Ivy leaned back on the palm of her hands. Where was the last viking? She diddnt have all afternoon, the sun was starting to get hot, but she diddnt want to take off her cloak. She couldnt imagine how stuffy it got in Xander's mask. Ivy looked over to her ally a question forming on her lips. Since she wasnt as considerate as others she asked it anyways.
"What is so bad that you have to hide it." She asked Xander in a low voice gesturing to his mask.
((IM srsly curious... XD))
VexyLu saw some of the other dragons playing.
"Why don't you join them?" VexyLu asked Skyfog.
Skyfog grunted in reply. She wasnt really into socialising.
Skyfog reluctantly walked over to the other playful dragons, and sat about two meters away from them.
VexyLu watched the other competitors chat.
One of them asked why the 'mystery man' always was wearing a mask and VexyLu realised she was curious too.
Was it to look mysterious or was he hiding something?
((Just to clarify, the grandma thing was a joke, not an insult, because before she was teasing VexyLu about how young she is))
((Isnt the backstory the first place your supposed start? (yeah I dont start there either) It's a classic but a good one, what if his face was all scarred up? Scars that reminded him of something terrible, which he would rather forget than live with everyday. Sorry, character development is one of my favorite parts. Which is ironic since I use a different OC every time that I kinda make up on the spot...))
"I don't like to talk about it." Xander said slowly, eyes flashing. Ivy nodded,
"That bad huh?" And then she dropped the subject. She could take a hint. Had Xander lashed out at her, that would mean that what she said touched him and peeled away a layer of defense. That also meant, someone would get the truth out of them one day. But since he diddnt, he just put the subject down, that usually meant that there was no way he was going to talk about it, possibly even take it to the grave. Ivy should know, she seen the exact same thing with her father. If there was one thing Ivy knew, it was that no one decent tried to be mysterious and succeded. Sighing at the depressing thought Ivy allowed herself to sink into a casual posistion.
Nightshade opened up her pincher again, loving all the attetion she was getting. Thats when she noticed the smokebreath hanging back. She watched it, but, she wasnt outgoing enough to invite the poor dragon into their game. Truth be told, Nightshade did not usual know how to act around most dragons, she was alone most of the time.
((I actually came up with Ivy's backstory in the shower. It's pretty normal though. Nothing too special. But her father was kinda... eeh. ))
((WHEW! Thats a lot of editing))
((the break starts when Rouge Posts? Right?))
((Navlyn just made a thread saying that she's leaving for a few months and that she dropping out of all rps she's in. So I think we can move on.))
Crawling along Hurricane's back so she was woven comfortably around his spikes, in a lying position, Stormy took a good look at the two that she hadn't originally viewed. The first thing that caught her eye was the Sand Wraith, who was exceptionally different to Stormy's own Sand Wraith friend, Thorn. In fact, he rather looked like he had...fur? What? Wow, I must've gotten hit harder than I thought...
"So, the Sand Wraith," Stormy said. "Epic dragon, I must say. Does he always look so- and no offense to you, my fine dragon- erm, fluffy?"
Bryn jumped just a tad as the Cavern Crasher rider suddenly jumped in, full of energy. She had been a bit concerned with the Skrill’s reaction to Draugr’s closeness that she didn’t even notice the other rider come up. Westra, huh? She offered a lopsided smile and patted her dragon’s shoulder spikes gently.
“The name’s Brynakha, but you can call me Bryn. And this big boy here is Draugr, but you can call him Ghost. Typically that’s easier to remember, and he responds to either.” She explained casually, and at the sound of his name, her dragon raised his head and looked at the Cavern Crasher. Obviously he didn’t notice the dragon before, and he’s never seen one before because his reaction was quite comical.
His spikes all rose to full attention from their position pinned against his scales, and his scales rose to meet them. This turned him into a rather spikey looking Woolly Howl, and he didn’t miss the opportunity to jump up into the air like a cat while his spikes and scales rose. Draugr’s eyes were as big as they could possibly get as he eyed the new dragon, and he slowly slunk up to the other creature. He gave an exploratory sniff of the wingless dragon, and then he jumped back once again for no apparent reason. It was quite obvious he was expecting it to eat him or something. Bryn was finding his reaction too amusing to stop him, afterall he wasn’t being aggressive in the slightest.
The skrill rider seemed to be a bit confused on his heritage, especially after he made it rather hard to ignore by raising his hackles like a scared little kitten. Bryn gave a hearty laugh and shook her head at Stormy.
“He’s a hyrbid of a Sand Wraith and a Woolly Howl. His mum was the Howler. I call him a Howling Wraith, but really he’s not recognized as a species in itself. Just a hyrbid.” She explained, patting his head as his spikes and fur slowly fell back down, even though he still looked very fluffy.
As the original group came over and announced a break, she shook herself off and took off her weapons, after all they were quite bulky. She attached her bow and arrows to her dragons saddle for easy access, but they weren’t in the way anymore. She briefly heard the male of the Silent Duo ask his dragon if they wanted to go eat, and she didn’t think that was a bad idea. Her stomach was already rumbling. She turned back to Stormy, Paz, and Westra with a quizzical look. “So, is there any good food around here? I hope Valka’s not the cook?” She questioned, joking, as she’s heard the riders complain of her cooking numerous times.
The overseers made an announcement saying that the competitors had a days break?
'Great!' Ivy thought. 'An entire day to train. Having never mastered the art of whistleing, Ivy resorted to calling her dragon's naname. Nightshade perked uuo, attentive. She bounced over, tongue hanging out the side of her mouth. Ivy offered her dragon a friendly smile. She knew that the break was for the riders to geget to know each other, bbut Ivy could care less. She extended her hand upwards a bit and looked at the Triple Stryke expantantly. Nightshade raised hher briaded triad and lifted it over her head. Ivy grabbed onto the tail as Nightsade lifted her off her feet and onto her back. With one last glance at the competition, Ivy and Nightshade flew off.
Ivy slammed the door of her hut behind her as she scrambled to retrieve her spare throwing. As soon as she was about to collect them a blue and black blur knocked her off her feet. Ivy, sprawled on her back stared into the firm blue eysnof her triple stryke.
"What?" She complained. Nightshade raised but in her Hind legs and then came down on Ivy with a loud roar. Ivy got the message "no more training for you." The Dragonrider rolled her eyes. "Okay mom." She grumbled, sneakily reaching for her daggers. Nightshade knocked her hand away with a tail. She growled and reached down, hoisting Ivy into the air by the cuff of her shirt. Ivy sighed as she was dragged across the wooden floor and plooped down beside a wooden box. Snorting indignantly, Nightshade SAT back on her hind legs.
Ivy blinked at her dragon and flipped the latch on the chest, opening the lid. In it was her Hardanger Fiddle. Ivy sighed and looked back to Nightshade.
"Really?" She puffed taking the instrument out of its casing. She took out the stick, brefiky trailing her fingers across the frog and the hair (not a typo). "Oh fine." She muttered and mounted her dragon with the expensive instrument. She did not want people to hear her play, and her hutt walls were thin.
((Just for fun reasons, will someone walk in on Ivy while she plays the fiddle in the forest?))
"Well, no matter what. Let's not go to Valka. Her food is horrible. They taste like burnt rocks. Which is not, a good taste. Trust me. But we could probally check the Great Hall. They us ally make chicken and bread for lunch. And dinner really." Westra told Bryn.
Ghost walked towards Geminia and he jumped away. Geminia turned his head and looked at him. He was so strange. Geminia walked towards him and sniffed him. After declaring he was okay, Geminia made a few bubbles of his back for Ghost to investigate.
Ivy's bare feet set down in the middle on the forest. A brook gurgled near by , the water scorce allowed soft springy mossy to grow everywhere in the clearing. This particular place was one of the most dense parts of the forest, the trees acting as a sound barrie. For some reason, Ivy never liked people knowing she could play the fiddle. Ivy was the only other being who did (aside from her mother).
Ivy walked down into the grass tuning her violin. She rested her chin on the chinrest and dragged a low c note. That wasn't right. She tuned it again, Ivy hadn't played in a while. The rider tried again, Nightshade watching expectantly. Perfect. Casting a nervous glance at her dragon, Ivy began to play. And she played beautifully. The melodic then drifted through the leaves. Ivy began to sway to the music, her bare feet bounding over the moss in amazing dancing.
((She is playing https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jvipPYFebWc this song. I suggest you listen, I love Linsey Stirling.))
((only Linsey Stirling fan? e.e OK.))
OHOHO YES LINDSEY STERLING
There was a day's break in competition.
This was good as VexyLu was exhausted and tired.
She needed to rest and train some more.
She would work on going even faster.
She saw one rider fly away already.
Where was she going?
Why so quick?
"Well I'm going to go now, see ya tomorrow arvo," she said to all the other competitors, "... if you survive that long," she added (as a joke).
((I'm just going to say that if VexyLu says something that seems rude, it's normally a joke, unless the person is rude to her. It's just her personality (and strange sense of humour))
Ivy struck her stick across her fiddle hitting a high E. The hair vibrated with the string. Smiling, now getting into the music Ivy ducked down, pairing dance moves with her fiddle playing. She leapt into the air in a full twirl before landing on one foot. Her other leg stuck out behind her which she brought up to her head demonstrating flexibility.
When she was child, her father was away often, so her mother had insisted on her having a hobby and began teaching her fiddle. Bugs then her mom grew busy and Ivy would play fiddle in the forest alone. She was mostly self-taught. With the music in her ears Ivy did not hear the loud splash Banshee made. Nightshades tail was thumping to the rhythm. Ivy danced in a graceful manner while playing her fiddle. She suddenly halted, drawing her string across the hair with slow movements. Quickly the song sped up again and so did Ivy.
Being self taught, Ivy thought her fiddle playing was horrible when it was actually very good. Of course, she diddnt see that.
((Funfact: I actually play the violin))
'SPLOOSH' Ivy perked up, her cord played flat as a sudden sound took her by surprise. Nightshade was looking at something... Ivy turned her head and almost yelped when she witnessed Xander sitting there. Ivy quickly dropped the fiddle to her side eyes wide.
"How long have you been there?" She demanded just as a stream of water flew over the treeline hitting the already soaking boy in the head.
Nightshade called out to Banshee before plunging into the undergrowth to play with the Flightmare. Ivy gave her retreating dragon a hard look. Utterly embarrassed.
"Oh, a few minutes. I never knew you were so talented." Xander said, though Ivy couldn't tell if he was being truthful or not, NoT with the mask on. She frowned. She diddnt think she was that good, and she still couldn't believe that Xander of all people had caught her while playing.
"I'm self taught." She deciddecided to say, trailing off, cheeks a bit flushed. She suddenly wished that she wore the mask.
Nightshade roared as Banshee ppushed her into the water.
((sorry it took so long to respond back. I was watching an episode of Supernatural.))
VexyLu and Skyfog flew quickly over the forest, towards a quiet area away from people.
She had just left the other competitors a few minutes ago, so did a few other competitors.
She had gone home briefly to get her bag.
VexyLu had never been to this part of the forest before, and wanted to see if this place was a good place to train.
As she flew over a dense part of the forest, she heard voices.
Skyfog heard them too.
The pair went instantly quiet. Unless you saw them, you would never know they were there.
VexyLu and Skyfog quickly and quietly dived down and a landed in a tree not too far away from where they were coming from.
VexyLu hopped off Skyfog and slowly moved closer to the noise, jumping branch to branch, unseen.
Who just randomly has conversations deep in the forest?
As VexyLu looked through the trees, to a small clearing, she got her answer.
It was two competitiors from the trials!
What were they doing here, just talking?
One had a violin.
That was odd.
VexyLu was curious of what they were talking about, but she wasn't that type of person.
She mounted her dragon, and took off into the blue sky, unnoticed.
She was still curious as of what the pair were doing, but it was none of her business. She could of listened to their conversation, unknown to them, but it didn't feel right.
She decided it wasn't important, and she would move on, but even in the back of her mind she would wonder what was going on.
She was getting further and further away from society.
The air was cool and crisp on her skin.
Skyfog was enjoying herself, occasionally doing flips, trying to put VexyLu off guard, testing her reflexes.
Each time VexyLu was ready though.
She had known Skyfog for awhile now, and could predict her.
It was still fun, and VexyLu still classified it as training.
As the pair approached a clearing, Skyfog flipped backwards, and dove down, in a sharp dive.
The pair were falling, until at the last minute Skyfog pulled up and landed gently (without a sound).
This was a nice clearing, away from everyone, hopefully no one would disturb her here.
On one side of the clearing was a cliff face, the rest of the outside just had forest.
Next to the cliff was a little stream of water.
The water was crystal clear. Skyfog took a drink.
The cliff cast a long shadow over the clearing.
There was also a cool breeze.
It was the perfect place to train.
It also was the perfect place to camp.
VexyLu finished chopping down the eighth tree she had chopped with her axe.
She heaved it to where she had kept the rest of her supplies.
She was going to build a tent, just like she was taught in school of dragons.
She planned on training after she set up camp, even though this was still technically training. Who knows when you might need a tent?
VexyLu continued setting it up the same way Gobber(?) had taught her.
Within a few minutes it was up, ready to be spelt in.
VexyLu used the remains wood and some rocks to make a campfire.
It was a great set up, she would have to come back here after the trials, and camp here for awhile.
VexyLu her notebook out of her bag and opened it.
She quickly sketch down a rough map on how to get here, just incase she forgot, even though she never forgot.
VexyLu could remember things for ages.
VexyLu put her notebook away.
It was time for training.
After setting up camp, VexyLu was well rested.
It was easy work, and VexyLu often recovered quite quickly.
She was ready to really push herself.
VexyLu panted as she sprinted through the forest.
She was going lightning fast, and had been running for a few minutes.
She continued running as dodged branches, leaped over logs and moved around trees.
VexyLu was agile and fast, she just needed to go for longer.
VexyLu had earlier riden Skyfog above the forest and marked out a rough route.
Skyfog was flying above her, just incase she got lost, even though she never got lost.
It had been about an hour and VexyLu was still running through the forest.
She had slowed to a jog, but was still going, and hadn't stopped.
She soon came to the clearing again.
VexyLu decided to rest now, as she didn't want to exhaust herself too much.
The next trail was tomorrow arvo. That meant she had all morning to train.
She decided she would train with Skyfog.
It was getting late, so the sky was getting darker and darker by the minute.
VexyLu decided to light the fire and eat.
With a single hand movement, Skyfog had obediently lit the fire.
VexyLu took her fishing rod from her backpack, and went finishing from the stream, to get dinner.
She managed to catch a herring.
She cooked it, and gave 3/4 to Skyfog, and had the rest for herself.
After dinner, VexyLu put dirt over the fire and retreated to her tent.
A few minutes later, Skyfog joined her, and curled up in her arms.
The pair fell asleep.
Bryn offered Westra a small smile and a nod. “Yeah, I don’t think burnt rocks had a very good taste - well, maybe to Gronkles.” She chuckled, shaking her head. A splash sounded beside the conversing riders, and she turned her head sharply to see the Flightmare and his rider come out of the water, sputtering and a mouth full of fish on the Flightmare’s part. She shook her head softly and turned back to Westra.
“Yeah, we should check out what’s for dinner in the Great Hall. While bread isn’t my favorite, I could use some chicken and potatoes.” She scratched behind Draugr’s spines, and he seemed to calm down just a bit more. His spikes had laid down, at least, but his scales were still fluffed up.
He seemed to freeze just a bit and move his head back and away from the Cavern Crasher when when the other dragon came over to sniff him. He raised the paw closest to the other dragon up and closer to his body in an attempt to put some space between the two, but suddenly the other dragon seemed to be done sniffing the hyrbid. His scales had fluffed up to full height in the ‘tense’ situation, at least in his mind, and after the other dragon’s mouth was away from his scales, he huffed out a breath and put his paw down. He seemed to have the dignity look a tad embarrassed, at least. Just then, a few bubbles of odd green mucus sported from the back of the other dragon, Geminia, and that seemed to peak his curiosity. He did have a wicked curious streak, and you know the saying. ‘Curiosity killed the..Draugr.’ He put his face almost right on top of the bubbles, his trepidation gone, and he huffed out a small breath of icy snow onto the green mucus. It didn’t seem to do anything, even if he expected it to explode in a snowstorm in his face. Bryn snickered slightly at her dragon’s antics.
Westra watched the two dragon investigating each other. Then she turned to Bryn. "Yeah, they should start serving soon." Then she turned to Paz. "Ready to go?"
Geminia watched as Ghost almost put his face on his back. Then Ghost blew some snow blast onto the bubbles and it didn't do anything. Geminia took a step back and flung some of the mucus onto the ground. Not very much though. Then he blasted a little bit of fire on it and it caught a flame.
Bryn was also watching Draugr and Geminia, but her attention was soon captured as Westra turned to her and began to talk. "Well, hopefully there will still be some good things left, you know how us Vikings can be." She joked, before swiveling her body to look towards both Paz and Stormy. "Yeah, you two should come. It'd be nice to get to know you all." She offered a lopsided smile before gently petting her dragon's spikes, since his attention is still solely focused on Geminia.
He was watching the mucus so intently that he actually gave a little jump when the other dragons stepped back, and he did the same. He was fully perked up with his head tipped to the side in a very curious manner as he watched the unusual dragon. Ghost almost stepped forward to sniff the little bit that the other dragon flung onto the ground, but just before he could Geminia caught it on fire. He was thoroughly surprised and intrigued. Immediately, he gave a little jump and then crouched down in a playful manner before he looked towards the small flame and the other dragon, as if saying 'put some more down, please!'. He wanted to see what it would do with his sandy blast. Bryn simply held on throughout her dragon's antics. She was a specialist at this.
" So, this is where you been since round 2 ended?" Xander inquired.
"Yeah." Ivy mumbled. She sniffed then composed herself. "Nightshade wouldn't let me train."
Nightshade growled as Banshee splashed water at her. The Triple Stryke braided her tails together into one, she raised the powerful tail up into the air, then crashed it down on the surface of the river. The river swelled and a massive wave of displaced water cascaded down onto Banshee.
She turned to look at Ghost and Geminia. They seemed to be enjoying each other company, which was wonderful! At least they didn't hate each other.
Geminia looked towards Ghost who was waiting for more. Geminia summoned more mucus and thrusted it down at the ground. Then he set it on fire again.
" Oh, I figured that you would use this time to train instead. Well, I guess I was wrong." Xander said twirling his knife. Ivy threw back her head in a scarcastic laugh.
"Oh believe me I tried." She empathized. "That dragon is stubborn." Ivy shrugged, she did not want to end up completely numb for a week again! The fire in her eyes briefly died out. "Well, since I have an audience, want to hear a song?" She asked, nervous. It was odd how Ivy found preforming the fiddle in front of one person was more nerve racking then fighting an entire army.
Nightshade yelped as Banshee spit water into her face. She reared up on her hind legs and crashed down on her pinchers senting droplets of water everywhere.
Ivy closed her eyes and took a breath. She began trailing her stick over the fiddle. She began to play the tune to a lullaby she remembered from her childhood.
Nightshade spluttered as water casacaded down onto her. Roaring, she charged and dunked Banshee into the river.
"Uh... Actually, I've got to be heading back. Errands aren't going to run themselves!" Paz answered reluctantly before leaving the small group with Minty.
After grabbing a few spices from one of the marketplace venders, Paz flew on her Nadder up.. and up.. and up until they finally reached the healer's hut. After heading inside, Paz could see that Gothi was dealing with a patient, so she set the spices on the counter and was going to head upstairs while the old lady wrapped up. Normally, she would stick around to chat with the patients while Gothi did her magic, but she wasn't a fan of this particular old man. It wasn't that she didn't like him, exactly, he was a kind man. It was more of where he was from then who he was.
Grabbing a plate of food off of the table that Gothi had prepared earlier for her, Paz was about to head up the stairs when the elder man spoke.
"You're becoming more like your mother everyday."
Turning to face him, Paz gave a small nod before heading up to her room and practically slamming the door behind her. Trying to push the event out of her mind, she sat on her cot while eating her lunch. She didn't want to think about it. No matter how many times they talked to her, she didn't want to know. No matter how much her curiosity ate at her, as far as she was concerned, the past needed to stay buried. She would never admit, but she was scared of who they were, or who they might've been. Her tribe (which technically was no longer existent), her parents, all of them.
So the past would stay buried.
At least for a little bit longer.
(( Yeah, I'm bored too. I wrote everything VexyLu did that afternoon in one post, because I thought everyone would of moved on, if I did it in multiple posts. So... HURRY UP EVERYONE! (Right now VexyLu is asleep, and it's night time. I'm waiting on what everyone did that afternoon/night, so I can write when VexyLu wakes up, and not be miles ahead of everyone.)
In other news, I now have unlimited internet usage again (yay), so I can write longer, more detailed posts.
While we are waiting, here are some fun facts about VexyLu, so you can get to know her better (and because I'm bored);
•VexyLu has one younger sister

"A break?" Stormy let out a long sigh. "Oh, good. Thought this thing would have me on my toes all week." She stretched and cracked her knuckles. "I'm off to the Great Hall to find some food. I'm sure they have something there." With that, she stood and left, her Skrill trailing her heels. "You're all welcome to come if you'd like!" she said over her shoulder.
Training was likely what the others had been doing. However, Stormy decided to eat a large lunch and then, well, go hang out in the woods. She had brought her axe, but left it against a tree, so she hung out mostly around the forested edge of the beach. Hurricane bounded beside his Rider and sprayed sand at her as the two strolled along the coastline.
"I might just camp out here," Stormy said to Hurricane. "Sleep on the beach, watch the stars, be early to the Trials next morning. A win-win, if I do say so myself." She paused with a small sigh. "Not like I got anyone back home to hang out with. Eh. Whatever, let's go in the ocean."
The two spent the rest of the day splashing water-so-cold-it-could-kill-a-man in each other's faces.
((Kinda bored to...))
