The Trial of Riders ~ 9 Spot Httyd RP
And there they were, back to back, fighting as one. Ivy drew her sword and started thrusting and parrying. She jabbed the blade deep into one man's leg, her left hand weilded her dagger which she sued to fend off another. One of them screamed and charged at her with an axe raised above his head. A black tail snaked around him and stabbed at him. The man's cry instantly turned into one of war to one of agony. He crumpled to the floor in a whhithering mess as Nightshade's posion rushed through his viens.
Enimes rushed in on either side and most of the riders were lost in the throng. This was the perfect momement.
"Nightshade cover me!" Ivy hollered to her dragon. Nightshade roared in agreement leaping up and landing directly infront of Ivy. Ivy sheathed her dagger and reached leaned backwards.
"Xander, yours bombs. Its time to go." She hollered at him. If he threw two, one to distract and the other to allow them cover to slip away into the smoke.
She might not of been as skilled as the elders of her tribe, but she certainly did not put their name to shame.
Her twin swords clashed against the weaponry of her opponents, Akyra weaving in and out between them in what looked like some kind of dance. The flightmare mist wasn't as strong as it would usually be, but wasn't weak enough to not be able to cause the fighters' movements to be sluggish.
It was a challenge for Madrielle to withhold from a killing blow, instead striking each down with the pommel of her swords. Each hit made a satisfying *clunk*, which she silently hoped was just from the metal.
Her flightmare had covered the area around her in a ring of mist, hopefully protecting her from the other riders. As she advanced, Akyra would use her wings to open up an entrance, which led Madrielle through to more beserkers and outcasts. She couldn't tell what pace the others were making, but surely nobody would be able to play any tricks on her whilst she was inside.
Suddenly the bomb went off and Ivy hit the ground running. The smoke quickly grew so thick that it caused her to cough, she coudlo barely see. But, the smudge next to her told her that she was still following Xander. Nightsahde and Banshee were running quickly behind them as cover. Ivy had to dodge a few very confused bersekers.
Finally the dirt underfoot turned to grass and the dense smoke began to clear. Ivy came out inside the forest in a fit of coughing. She breathed deeply and took in her surroundings. The forest wasnt too thick, but it was nearly abandonded. From here, the rest of the way should be easy. Once Nightshade and Banshee emerged from the clearing smoke she nodded her head.
"Come on." And with that, she hared onward, she was careful not to use her top speed because the clearing was fairly large and Ivy wasnt built for stamina.
She was already rushing towards the enemies on the back of her hybrid when the enemies really started flooding the place. “You ready for some fun, Draugr!?” She asked, patting his head spike right before she reached behind her to make sure she still had a bunch of arrows left, she didn’t want to use them all immediately, after all.
All of the riders seemed to go off in different directions, and she did note with curiosity that the ‘Unfriendly Duo’ seemed to dart off to the side pretty quickly, they had something up their sleeve. She would have to remember to keep an eye on them, but as long as they didn’t mess up her own rhythm, she didn’t particularly care.
A nasty looking Viking seemed to be headed right towards her, despite the fact that most of them either cleared off or stopped at the sight of her hyrbid, so she was pretty happy at the fact that she was gonna get some direct action. She clicked a few times, right before twisting her feet and pushed the stirrups down into a position that allowed her to stand up, and that’s just what she did. She pushed herself out of the stirrups and placed her feet on the shoulder spikes of her dragon right before she pushed off of his back completely and launched towards the Viking. It didn’t take long.
She heard a few cries of pain come from the direction that she saw the Unfriendly Duo go off in, and so she turned her head in their direction. Suddenly, a cloud of smoke rose above them all, and just for giggles, she shot a flint arrow into the sky and indicated to Ghost to set it ablaze. An answering blast of Zippleback gas explosion sounded in the sky, but that was all the fun she had before she whistled for her dragon and remounted him. He had taken out a few Vikings of his own while she was goofing off, so they continued to clear the way towards the finish line. With Bryn’s arrows and Draugr’s swiftness, they ended up covering quite a bit of ground, although it was impossible to see where they were compared to everyone else.
((ABout, where is everybody in the arena rn? I wanna get my bearings))
I have no idea. By the way, are these legitimate bad guys that actually need to be stopped?
"Have at it, Wes!" Paz said before whistling the command that basically meant, "shoot 'em up!"
Suddenly, Nadder spines were flying all over the place with deadly accuracy, leaving a bunch of guys crying out in pain. Meanwhile, Paz was working on this one guy who just would not come down. Dissapointed at her riders difficutly, Minty stopped what she was doing and flew over and grabbed the man to toss him to the other side of the ring.
"Would you deal with your own goons? I had him!"
That's when a fog started covering the arena, making the opponants difficult to target.
'This isn't good... This is bad, actually."
Westra whistled and Geminia came running to her side. "Go get em," she whispered to him. Geminia gave a squeal of excitement and he raced out in front of them with blazing speed. He also veered left a bit for than he wouldn't get in their ways. After he got a while away, Geminia's back bubbled and released his weird liquid that is stored on his back and it flung it all over the feild. After leaving a giant trail of it all over the place, Geminia blasted a spark of fire on it and the whole arena burst into flames along the trail. Westra smiled as Oatcasts ran from the burning flames. But what Westra hoped more was that it would slow down the others. "Let's go!" She told Stormy and Paz as she raced for the opening that Geminia left for them. But then a smoke began to fill the feild and suddenly, running through flames didn't sound like such a good idea.
IVy and Xander were leaping over rocks and fallen treels when choas broke loose. The gas from Xander's bombs appeared to be fammable... highly flammable, which supported Ivy's theory, that it was zippleback gas. And some genius lit up the place. The gas spread over the entire arena, and fires were everywhere. That was bad. There was a loud crack as a tree about 10 feet behind them caught on fire. Quickly it would spread and Ivy did not want to be caught in a forest fire!
Ivy pushed on with an extra burst of speed while the adrenaline of a real threat burned through her viens. But, there were voices up ahead. A few Outcast had wandered into the woods to escape the cancer that was the main battle ground. With a war cry, Ivy drew her throwing knives and leapt into the air. Just like practice. Her foot hit the first man quarely in the forehead, Ivy expertly threw her knife at the second, it got him right in the stomach. He fell backwards. Ivy gulped some air as the stench of smoke rose to her nostrils. And through the haze, she couldnt see the finish line, but she felt close.
((IS this a OK time to finish? Its been 3 hours lol. ))
((Thats just what Ivy assumes. I mean its green and flammable. She doesnt know of any other substance. If it were the flightmare mist, everyone would be stunned))
The smoke was getting very thick and ivy was begining to stumble and choke. Xander's mask blocked out most of it, but Ivy did not have that advantage. She had to finish and fast. She was too wrapped up in her own problems that she failed to notice the 3rd Outcast emerge from the Underbrush to charge at her. But thankfully Xander noticed. Ivy diddnt see what happened next, but next thing she knew, he was by her side, panting, sword dripping with blood. Ivy choose to ignore this fact and kept half running half tripping blindly.
Nightshade was worried for her rider, but the dragon cuaghT Xander staring at her. The Triple Stryke blinked, the smoke was so dark.. thats when she realized what was going on. Nightshade opened her mouth and burned a weak flame inside it as to not cause any more fire. She darted ahead and lead the way. The dark husky shapes of trees loomed before her, which she dodged due to her light scorce. Finally the trees bgean to thin. Nightshade ran harder, Ivy wasnt looking so well and falling behind.
Ivygagged as the smoek filled her lungs. But teh trees were thinning, theyw ere almost there! With the last burst of effot, Ivy leaped over and log and cleared the forest. She hit the ground and crossed the finishline, just behind Xander. As soon as her foot stepped across, she fell to the floor, coughing hoarsely.
((Hope this is OK))
(Fine with me! I was actually waiting for you guys to break off and finish, since you two were in front of me in my mind's eye ahah)
The fire and chaos that broke out, after someone lit the gas that the Unfriendly Duo dropped, helped the pair even more to push through the blubbering bodies of the enemy. Bryn was standing up in the stirrups again, dodging knives and axes thrown and swung at her, as she fired arrow after arrow. She had only brought a few Gronkle Iron arrows, so she stuck to her flammable ones. Many a Viking had caught fire that day, and most of them weren’t even from her dragon. She smiled and clicked a few times until Draugr pushed off the ground and hovered in the air for a little while. The Unfriendly Duo were nowhere to be found, and the Cavern Crasher seemed to have been the one to light the arena up. Interesting. It was clearing the way for a bigger party, one that she saw grouped up but she didn’t realize was really together, and that was a pretty bad sign for her at least, since she was solo.
“We can still do this, Ghost.” She cooed, plopping into the saddle and clicking twice so that her dragon would land back on the ground gracefully, and thus not break any rules of flying above the chaos. The bigger party was behind her, but she had no idea where the Duo was. They were probably ahead of her, somewhere. If she could just figure out where. Her head swung back and forth as her dragon fended off the Vikings around her, but she figured it didn’t matter too much where exactly those two were, after all she didn’t know where the Smokesbreath rider was either. They might have already finished. “Let’s finish this, Draugr.” She put her hand on the spikes on his head, and instantly the ones all along his body rose from their resting position against his scales. He charged full speed ahead with his head down and spikes pointing forward, literally planning on ramming all the vikings out of his and his riders way. Most of them scurried away instead of standing and blocking the path, but the ones that did were either set on fire with an arrow or knocked away by either Bryn’s axe-bow or Draugr’s pushing body.
She broke through the thickest of the body lines, finally, and she saw the finish. Still, no one else was in sight. “Let’s go, boy!” She encouraged, and Draugr started again on his ramming through the crowd. They were very successful, until she saw the Duo split off from the trees and finish. “So close.” She whined, pulling back on Draugr as the skidded to a halt just across the finish line in third place. “Good enough, though.” She scratched behind his head spikes and he let out a happy rumble in his chest.
“Good job, guys.” She complimented the Duo, although her focus was still on her panting dragon as she slid off his back and offered him water.
Banshee leaned over and sniffed Ivy sympathetically. Xander himself coughed a bit before regaining himself. Ivy's coughing fit slowed until it stopped which left her breathing heavily.
"You okay?" Xander asked offering her his hand.
"Yeah." Ivy coughed weakly, her voice was rough. She grabbed his hand and hoisted herself up. Still coughing a bit. Nightshade, worried for her rider nuzzled Ivy. Ivy offered the dragon a reassuring pat on the head. She adjusted herself, a bit of her cloak was singed but she seemed fine. At least the finish line marked the end of the smoke.
Suddenly Ivy realizzed that they were the first to cross! Ivy looked around finding the finish line completely deserted. The rush of adrenline was replaced with a rush of releif and excitment. The emotions were so strong Ivy reacted in a odd way. She giggled... actually giggled. But, suddenly she stopped herself. Luckily the air around her was to dank to notice her flush of embarressment. She had never felt safe to giggle around anyone execpt Nightshade.
"COngratsulations." A voice said, Ivy looked up to see Bryn, the newer competetor walking twoards them. Ivy just nodded, not trusting herself to talk she simply nodded.
((I dont care if ivy gets second or ties in first.)
Nightshade watched the hybrid but quickly grew bored. When Banshee offered up a friendly growl, Nightshade shied away. The Triple Stryke curled in her tails and padded over to Xander, sniffing his cloak hood, then promptly licked his head.
Ivy saw this and silently snorted. Nightshade looked around in a puppy-like manner as if looking for approval.
The female raised an eyebrow at the Unfriendly Duo, but she gave a nearly silent tsk. Perhaps Silent Duo would be more suited to them. She pondered while she put away the water canteen she had been using to give Draugr a drink. The hybrid was licking his lips when a friendly growl reached his ears and he immediately perked up. The dragon swung his head around to the pair, and he offered another toothy smile. It was almost as if he was asking if they wanted to play now, even if the first time he wanted to didn't go in his favor. He was tenacious, that's for sure. Bryn idly watched the Triple Stryke lick the head of the male, and she suppressed a cuckle, she didn't particularly want to make him angry, nor breathe in whatever gas he had in those smoke bombs. She glanced silently towards the crowd of Vikings, waiting for the other participants.
((Bags 4th, not a lot of time to write, I will later))
Ivy broke into a grin as Xander swayed on his feet. Her playful dragon was warning up to him.
Nighshade lifted up her eyes and made a deep warbling laughing sound. Her spit being clicked back on her made her shut up. She sneezed and gave Xander a 'look'. Banshee screeched and ducked into a playful how. Nighshade jumped on it, she pounced on Banshee and gently shoved him in a playful manner. Ivy diddnt need to know dragon speak to know that this meant 'Fite me!'
((Okay, so apparently, I'm gone at youth group for a few hours and the second round has already ended. Put Stormy in there somewhere, as throwing daggers and blasting people with her Skrill. I'm sorry. I have zero motivation :P))
Ivy coughed again, thankfully she could breathe again. So, she sat crosslegged on the grass while waiting for the others.
Nightshade soon on her hind legs to match Banshee. Then the Stryke pounced, playfully climbing over the flightmare with a roar and a light thwack on the back with her tail. Looking back she rolled out her tongue and grinned.
Bryn let her big beastly dragon go,and immediately he flung himself into the two playing dragons. He didn't get hit by the spit, but he wasn't gonna miss out on any playtime either.
He flapped his wings to give him extra advantage and leaped right on over the two dragons before he too raised up on his hind legs and waved his paws in the air. His tongue lolled out of his mouth, his excitement palpable. It wasn't often that he acted like a puppy or that he wanted to play, but when he did - well, he really wanted to play.
VexyLu hit another guys over the head with his own helmet.
This was so much fun.
Behind her she saw an explosion, the next second everything was on fire!
This was her favourite round so far.
She side kicked the next guy that came at her in the gut.
That is when the new person on their dragon came running past her and she realised she had to finish the race.
VexyLu started sprinting towards the finish line.
She didn't have too much trouble, as most of the enermies were to distracted by the chaos behind her.
She ran as fast as she could, and crossed the line in forth place, where the finished competitors were waiting.
"That was fun, wasn't it?" she asked, thrilled.
((Hey, could we please have like a day's break between next round?
I would like to get to know the other characters a bit better))
I second that motion.
((This thing blew up after I went to bed last night. This posts starts right after my last one and ends at the end of the trial))
The area around Paz seemed to quiet a bit once the fog fell over in full force, leaving her slightly panicked and full alert. Backing up slowly, she tried to head to the general location of where the exit was. She didn't recall not being that far from it.
Suddenly, She swung her axe around because she thought someone was behind her. Unfortunetly, there was. As the body collapsed to the ground unconsious, Paz couldn't help but feel bad due to the scar that was gonna leave when he woke up.
...If he woke up...
That would be about when things started catching on fire.
Thinking quick, Paz called for her dragon and had her take the guy out of there while she made her way to the finish line.
((I'm guessing she got maybe 8th place))
Nightshade suddenly jerked up her head as Banshee ducked under her tails. She looked behind her eyes wide. Banshee looked back up her and leapt into her back playing with her ear spikes. Nightshade blinked and slowly turned her head over to Darguar who also seemed to want to play whilst Banshee was nibbling on her ears. She shook herself with a playful growl, trying to dislodge the flightmare, but no no avail.
Nightshade lifted one of her prehensile tails and used it to wrap around the Flightmares body. She lifted him off her back and creened around looking at him. Then she opened her mouth and roared loudly (but playfully) in his face before dropping Banshee.
Ivy watched through the midst as another rider consisted. VexyLu was it? That girl, although yongue seemed to know what she was doing. Ivy watched her behind narrow eyes. She did not appear to have any injuries, and the smoke did not seem to effect her at all. Ivy suspiciously watched her cross the finish line.
She couldn't see anybody. She couldnt' tell where Paz or Stormy was. She could only defend for herself. She calles Geeminia over. "Led me," she whispered. Geminia got it and raced through the fog. Westra kept close at his tail. Westra couldn't see any bad guys that she was suposed to fight off. There was one right away but Geminia blasted him before Westra could even take out her weapon. What had motiovated these guys anyways? Did the riders offer them food or something? Westra didn't know. But she had to get past the finish line. After about a minute, Geminia leaped over the line and Westra finished along with him. Westra fell over right away and looked around at her fellow vikings who finished. She saw the newcomer, Stormy, Ivy, Xander, and possibly someone else that was a blob. But Paz wasn't there. Had Westra left her? Oh, no. But Paz tumbled past the finish line a few mintues later and Westra filled with reflief.
((i'd say put Westra in 6th))
Bryn was just getting a little concerned when the Smokesbreath rider crossed the finish line, and then the Cavern Crasher came streaming out followed by his rider, and lastly the Nadder girl came tumbling through the fog. Not very elegant, but they made it. Bryn clicked her tongue a few times and got Draugr's attention away from the Silent Duo's playing dragons, and he slinked over to her side in a very sneaky manner. She wasn't sure what he was about to do, but she was more concerned with the riders that had come flying out of the smoke in the most ungraceful of ways.
It turns out, she probably should've been a tad more conscious of her own dragon, because he decided that he was bored. That was never good. Suddenly, his teeth sunk into the fabric of her black hood and yanked upward, tossing his rider into the sky. Bryn refused to let out a screech, but she was pretty annoyed and did get quite the censored from the move. Draugr positioned himself under her, and she landed on his back in the saddle. He looked back and gave his rider a lopsided, toothy smile. "You're kinda annoying. Did anyone ever tell you that?" She questioned after she leaned down to whisper in the dragon's ear.
He shook his head and fluffed out his scales indignantly at his rider before she pulled gently on his saddle to make him go towards the three rider that had just tumbled out. "You guys okay?" She questioned, although her gaze was on the smoke behind them. Was that all the riders?
((Might as well make a post.))
Oh, Stormy didn't realize exactly what had happened during the battle.
Apparently the maze had left some shadow of Berserk in her, which was likely because Stormy hated being lost, and she was fairly sure that's what happened during the battle.
Stormy had gone Berserk.
Embarrassing, for the first day.
And the battle had ended.
Stormy looked around, panting. She spotted her allies- Paz and Westra. She walked up to them, noting that the blade of her axe was bloody and several of her daggers were either also had rather...telltale signs of battle. "Sorry, I think I sorta...blanked out." She looked desperately at Paz. "Nothing crazy happened, right? Are we all still alive? Am I still alive?" She checked herself over, putting a hand on her chest, as if to make sure she wasn't a ghost. "Nope, this definitely isn't Valhalla. Phew."
"Nope, you're good Stormy. We're not in Vallaha. At least I don't think I am," she said looking around. Then she spotted Ivy. "Nope. Not dead. And I understand. We all make mistakes. At least we have a break now, I think. Or maybe I'm just going a bit mad. Who knows?"
((If you diddnt already see her post, Shamara cannot post for some reason. The thread is glitching. Just thought to have you all know.))
((KK. Are the orgional dragonriders gonna make the break-announcement? And what is stopping the rider's from being antisocial and going back to their homes for the rest of the day. Cuz that is something Ivy would do.))
((The riders get a full days break to get to know each other right? So what is stopping Ivy to skip it and just go home instead? I want her to get to know the others, but character-wise it isnt something she'd do.))
Thinking of how to answer Stormy's question, Paz finally said, "Well... stuff blew up, I think someone might've died, and there's only one true way to test that last question."
With that, Paz came up behind the other girl and pinched a nerve in the back of her neck, which went Stormy plummeting to the ground.
"Yeah, you're still here." Paz concluded, helping her back up.
Acting like that didn't just happen, Paz switched subjects, "Let's see, who's missing... I can't remember. I think one of them had a Skrill, though."
Hearing the newcomer ask of their wellbeing (I think you were asking us, right?) Paz answered, "Yeah, we're good. By the way, didn't get to mention it earlier, but I'm Paz."
Stormy gave the Riders a cross-eyed, dazed look (partially just for fun). "Who, me?" she asked. "Nuh, I'm fine. Whhhhhhy...wouldn't I b..." Stormy toppled over, exhausted. Hurricane leapt up and managed to balance his rider on his long nose, which had the young Berserker draped across the Skrill's snout like a rag doll. "Do we get a break or somethin'?" she asked, craning her neck so she could see the other Riders.
((I think I'll grab that 7th spot ;p))
Madrielle felt something grab her, hoisting her up like a newborn kit. She readied her swords, preparing to knock it out, before Akyra's familiar breathing patterns reached her ears.
"Hey! Where are you going?" she called out, her dragon barrelling through the enemies she has just fought. The viking was about to start protesting, but as they exited the ring of mist she saw what had the flightmare so concerned.
"Drat! I got caught up!"
She felt her feet gaining purchase on ground again, and she immediately burst into a sprint, Akyra trailing behind her. The viking practically threw herself across the finish line, and would of stumbled over if the dragon's head hadn't propped her up in time. One hand found its way to her browridge, and she used it to steady her footing. Her swords had been discarded into the snow beside her, and she carefully lifted them up, before brandishing one in triumph.
"Hah! How well d-... did... I... score...?" Madrielle's proud statement trailed off into a question as she saw the groups of vikings already waiting just ahead of her.
"Well, you didn't do too bad," replied VexyLu, to Madrielle, "...For a grandma."
