'Tis my birthday again. So...Spike Rollers? (Adoptables)
Hi everyone ^_^
You probably guessed from the title, but it's my birthday once again! I don't know if anybody remembers the thread I made last year. The one where I was taking requests for Changewings? Anyway, it's >here< if you're interested. I'd still be happy to do one for anyone who wants one :)
I was actually planning on doing more Changewing requests this year too, but I've been a bit busy lately so I ended up not having the time to draw what I was hoping for. But I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to re-introduce my Spike Rollers to the forums ^_^ They've been revamped since the last time I did adoptables, and I've updated some of the species info too. So I would like to officially re-introduce the Spike Roller!
(This is one of my own Rollers, Crasher. He's not up for adoption because, well...he's mine :P )

The Spike Roller dragon has existed since ancient times, and as such has a prehistoric appearance. As the name suggests, its sharp spikes are one of its most dangerous weapons, along with its size and incredible strength. Spike Rollers are also capable of curling themselves into a tight ball and rolling at high speeds. They do this mainly to attack their opponents, but it can also be used for travelling over difficult terrain. This can have a devastating effect on anything around them, as the powerful spikes on its back can gradually break up the ground and anything else in their environment. Because of this, it is easy to tell when you're in one's territory, which is a usually large rocky area.
This Boulder Class dragon has thick, armour-like scales on its back to protect it from harm inflicted by rolling, or even from other dragons. The scales on its belly and legs though, are much softer and vulnerable to attacks. While it breathes fire, its flame is somewhat weaker than that of other dragons, and usually comes in only short bursts. As a result, it relies heavily on its tail as a weapon in close-range combat, where it is unable to roll. They are bulky and clumsy dragons, and definitely do not excel in situations where agility is needed.
Their habitat is usually somewhere rocky, and they prefer to spend their time in a mountain terrain, or in large, open areas. However, they will often temporarily wander into forests or grasslands in search of food. Their diet consists of mainly berries and plants, but they have been known to eat meat occasionally. Those who live near rivers may try to catch fish if they are hungry enough, but they much prefer other food sources.
Spike Rollers are very territorial, and can be very aggressive towards strangers. They are extremely dangerous to approach, and are very difficult to train. Some are more stubborn than others, and how they behave once trained varies between dragons.
Winged Rollers-
Every now and then, a Spike Roller that has wings is hatched. These are considered very rare among the species, and only a small number of winged ones have ever been recorded. Winged Rollers are clumsy flyers, and can only travel short distances at a time. They roll at a reduced speed to a normal Roller, because their wings make rolling more difficult. Because of this, the wings are generally considered a weakness, and are seen as a bad trait among Rollers. Dragon hunters though, are particularly interested in the winged variant, because they are extremely difficult to find.

*Quick note about the backstories. I'm not much of a writer myself, so I'm not expecting a masterpiece. For the Normal Rollers, a paragraph or two on how you met it is enough as long as the species information is followed. Uncommon Rollers will need to be just a little longer, though. And please try and avoid the whole "I fed it and now it instantly loves me" thing for Uncommons. Rollers are too stubborn for that. Grammar and spelling isn't too important for Normals, but Uncommons will need have fewer mistakes. Rares will need longer stories again, but you don't need to go overboard. Please take care to use good grammar and check for spelling mistakes. It's very important not to go against the species info for a Rare.

Isn't it cool? She did it all herself. Even the little symbol on his tailfin! The hills in the corner are little cakes as well. I couldn't believe it when she showed it to me :3
And I also wanted to say Happy Birthday to my Boneknapper, Crossbolt! I bought his egg around Dreadfall last year, and hatched him around this time. So it's almost his birthday, too. This was him last year:

Hey! Just wantd to report in on Aurora 
as I adopted her from you last year from your original batch! She's still aggressive around strangers but gets along great with my other dragons! She's a huge lover of tug of war you know. Got any reccomendations on who should be her new friend? She would prefer a different gender companion but can go either way for her friend. I just don't want to risk female on female agression like with canines you know.

I was actually considering PM-ing you about these, but I wasn't sure if you'd still be interested or not ^^; I'm glad to hear Aurora is doing so well, and that her leg injury didn't leave any permanent damage. Did you want a picture of her with the new base? The species has ditched their wings for the most part, but Aurora would get to keep hers because she was Rare to begin with :)
Feel free to try for any Roller you like, except the ones that are on hold for others. I'm sure any of them would make a great friend for Aurora! (And if you don't like any of the ones above, I could always make another one for you :D )
I'd love to get an updated version of Aurora! And her leg is doing great. My medics keep an eye on it in case it bothers her, but she's doing great! And if you can do customs that would be awesome! Just let me know what you need and I'll tell you what I want. Aurora is too picky to like anyone here at the moment unfortunately. Then again, she is a lady and it's only fair right?
It's getting pretty late in my time zone, so I'll get Aurora's picture done tomorrow :) And I'd be happy to make one for you, if Aurora's being picky XD You'll still need to fill out the form above, though (just not the Roller number). And tell me what colours you want everything to be. Some Rollers only have one armour plate colour, but some have two or more colours. Some have the same colour for all their spikes and claws, but you'll notice sometimes the spikes on their backs are a different colour to the spikes on their legs or their claws. So you can really do anything you want with them. I should probably still add a form though :)

Alright, here is Aurora's revamp! Sorry it took so long.
I've tried to keep the rainbow patterns on her back, spikes and wings as close as I could to the original, but they had to change a bit to fit the new base. I kept the colours in the same order, though. Since none of the original batch Rollers had eye or claw colours, I just went with what I thought would match. Her eyes are orange, and her claws have rainbow colours, but I can easily change that if you'd like something else instead. Just tell me if anything about it should be changed, and I'll fix it as best as I can :)
Also, you can keep using whichever version you prefer. Just remember to credit NightmareRebuff as well for this version.

I like to draw as well, but I definitely need more practise. I did draw the original versions of the Rollers myself, but Nightmare's base is a major improvement on what I could do :)

*Backstory: She was a stray, thrown off her island by the Leader, i was flying on my other dragon when i spotted her, on an old viking boat, sinking slowly... I called my friends for help and we all lifted her up and took her back to the island, when we arrived my friends realised she couldn't fly and weren't interested, but that didn't bother me from making a friend for life. :)

It's a very good start, but number 8 has an Uncommon rarity, so it'll be just a little harder to adopt than a Normal. If you add a couple more paragraphs to the backstory, I'd appreciate it. I like the idea of helping her from the boat. Maybe you could explain how she got onto the boat to begin with? Just to add a bit more detail, that's all :) And maybe add a little more to the personality as well. Remember that all Rollers are at least a little stubborn and aggressive by default, but their attitude towards their riders and others can change once they're tamed. I love the bit about the paint, though!
I'll reserve Cavern for you so you can try again if you want to :)

Behind the scenes: One late night, Cavern was settling on on part of a Little island, many dragons become strays, but MOST have been recovered and tamed, Cavern and a Purple deadly nadder were together, little did they know that the island they were on do not accept outsiders.. The island's tribe leader knew Cavern lived there, and decided it's time for her to move off, His warriors, Little 11 and Little 12 stormed the area, shocking the stray deadly nadder to fly off, but of course Cavern was flightless, they surrounded her, spines out, and pushed her onto a boat, she did something to get it moving.. The nadders shot their spines and one of them hit the Boat's floor which is how the boat was found to be sinking.. She sailed a long way, sticking to Little Island's shores, considering her options. When she noticed a dragon, a night fury, flying up in the sky, and slowly dropping speed and hovering above, with other dragons... She knew she was safe, she had a warm feeling inside of her, and she smiled to herself, and let them take her back to their island....

The only thing I'm not quite sure about is that she seemed to have accepted the help a little too easily. But given her situation, I can believe that she might have been too exhausted or stressed out to put up too much of a fight. So it's all good :)

The backstory is perfectly fine for a Roller with Normal Rarity. I can understand his personality being that way, since he was adopted as a baby. But remember that all Rollers are at least a little aggressive at first and some of them may never lose that aggressiveness.

Also, I don't know what program NightmareRebuff used to draw these ^^; She did the base for me. But I just use Microsoft Paint to colour them in. Unless there's something special or different markings or anything I need to add to them. I usually use Befunky.com to add that kind of stuff. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful :(

I love the personality that you gave him. It's very fitting for a Roller, and is very detailed. I also enjoyed reading through the backstory, because I can see that you've put the effort into writing it. Parts of it really show that you've read and payed attention to the species info, which is always nice :) And I do like the story itself as well. The only thing I'm not really sure about is that most Rollers would probably try and attack any stranger who tried to touch them if they didn't want to be touched. I can understand him being more okay with it the second time (since you'd helped him out on two separate occasions by that point, he was more familiar with you, and was probably worn out from almost being captured), but the first time seems a little strange that the only thing he did was fly away. But still, that's only a minor thing. Take good care of Nidhogg, and please remember to credit NightmareRebuff for the lineart ^_^
