I nearly got chapter 17 done Wednesday night in time to post it, but yet again I got writers block plus I was too tired to continue.  But it seemingly never fails.  Every time I get writers block, though a little hard to get going sometimes, I seem to write better because of it.  Maybe because I'm concentrating more because I have writers block, I get more involved and engaged with the story.

I hope you enjoy this two-fer.  I thought I'd work on chapter 18 as well and get it posted along with 17 so that my delay would be more rewarding to you because if I would have been able to get 17 posted Wednesday, you probably would have had to wait until next week until you got 18.  Now you get two in one week.

Things are going to start picking up.  I've set in motion a few things, these two chapters are "the calm before the storm."  Pardon the pun as you will see by the end of your reading.  ;)

Thoughts of Guilt

Chapter 17

Something is Brewing

          Stoick and I both nodded at each other to acknowledge that the smell in the vial matched.  Hawk started to say something, but was then pushed out the door by Gobber.  I stopped him though and said I was done looking at the body and Hawk could now carry him off.

          “That’s better,” Hawk said as he shoved off Gobber and fixed his vest as if Gobber “messed it up”.  “I’ll be back with my family to carry him away.”

          Stoick then reminded Hawk that he was now responsible for getting Gothi to give the final diagnose on the body of Vlarrin.  Hawk reacted differently to that then I would have thought.  It was almost as if he did not want to take Vlarrin to see Gothi.  Though most people dread the walk and climb all the way up to Gothi’s, but Hawk’s reaction seemed more pointed towards taking the body there itself and not the walk.

          After that, Stoick said that he would have to take my father into custody as my father was the only suspect and is still under suspicion.

          Stoick then said to all of us, “Be sure to keep this to yourselves; news about this could spread as fast as a wildfire when Gobber’s beard is dry as sand.  Not until we have solid proof one way or the other will be announce it and hold a hearing on the matter.”

          Stoick was about ready to take father away when he asked me about the vial.  I replied I was going to give it to Garth of Izar to make some chemical tests on the substance in the vial.

          Mother was still crying as she hugged father and watched he with Stoick and Gobber.  Asvord and Elsa felt as if they should go home with mother to keep her company.  So they left and it was just me and Hiccup left.

          We were just standing there still in front of the storage house and I said, “You know I don’t trust that Hawk McBaugston.”

          Hiccup then replied, “Why would you say that?  I know he is the one accusing your father of his cousin’s death, but is that the only reason?”

          “No that isn’t the only reason,” I answered.  “If Hawk really cared for his cousin, don’t you think he would have showed more emotion?”

          “He did burst in just a few minutes ago,” pointed out Hiccup.  “That’s showing emotion.”

          I countered asked, “Did you notice anything about his eyes?”

          “No, should I have noticed something?” said Hiccup.

          “If your answer is, ‘His eyes were perfectly fine’, then yes you should have,” I stated.  “If a close family member of mine was just killed, I would shed a few tears.  If Hawk is so ‘passionate’ and ‘caring’ about his brother, why did he not cry?”

          “Maybe he isn’t that type,” Hiccup suggested.

          “Maybe so, but there is just something fishy going on with Hawk and Vlarrin’s ship with those crates that tells me there is more than meets the eye in this case,” I responded.

          Hiccup said that there was not much more he could do now as he was about due over at the Academy for some more exercises.  He bid me, “Bye,” as Hawk and returned with a couple other men.

          The men were carrying a long box to I assumed to put Vlarrin’s body in.  I had walked down the steps and off to the side to give them plenty of room.  One reason was because of the look Hawk gave me.  He looked very revengeful.  I was leaning against Fredrick’s front, left side and watched the whole thing.  Hawk looked “thrilled” that I was watching.  I had nothing better to do until my friends came back and I wanted to keep an eye on him.

          Hawk and his men were in there for a considerable amount of time.  All they had to do was to put the body in the box and carry him off.  They took nearly ten minutes.  Once they exited the storage house, they walked straight for the McBaugston house.  I followed them there, but gave a considerable distance between them and me; more out of respect than for them to notice I was following them.  They went into the house at the same time Ohmarr had come out.

          I had completely forgotten about Ohmarr.  Vlarrin was his father.  I was still walking next to Fredrick when I was about to wave at Ohmarr.  He saw me coming, but just looked at me.  His face did not look mad, yet he looked very sad.  I wanted to go over and give my condolences, but he looked like he wanted to be alone.  If “A picture paints a thousand words”, his face told me all I needed to know.  Before Ohmarr turned towards his stable, he gave me a slight smile as if to say it was not my fault.

          That was really odd to me, because his father is dead for he should be steaming mad at me because of Hawk probably said something already about my father being the one who did it.  This puzzled me even more.  I did not know what to make of it.  So I went home.

          When I arrived and put Fredrick back in his stall with feed and fresh water, I entered the house to the smell of fresh baked bread and well-done yak steaks.  I went into the kitchen and saw the work my mother had done.  It seems like when something sad that always, mother always does a lot of work more than she is capable sometimes.  I figured to get her mind off of what just happened.

          Asvord and Elsa had finished setting the table as I walked in.  They as well as my mother softly said, “Hello,” as they all looked down cast.  We all set down to a wonderful meal.  The bread and the meat were very good and very well cooked.  Even though we gave our mother compliments for the food, between my sisters and I even all the compliments in the world could have made my mother feel any better.

          Once the meal was over, she got up and started cleaning the table off.  My sisters and I started to help too, but our mother insisted that we go out and do something, “Maybe your friends are back from The Golden Isles.”  In other words that meant in a nice way that she wished to be alone and wanted us to go outside.

          As soon as I shut the door behind us, Asvord and Elsa pointed up to the sky and showed that our friends indeed were coming back.  They looked to be heading towards the landing circle in front of the Academy Riders’ houses were located.  That and the landing area in the middle of the village were the two main locations were anybody would land.  Asvord, Elsa, and I went to go get our dragons to meet our friends there.

          When we caught up to our friends who had come back, some of them started to go to their houses; but when they saw me, they came back.  They wanted to know what had happened when our mother and Astrid along with my two sisters and myself had come back to Berk.  I told them about looking at the crime scene, my father’s story, the vial, and Hawk.

          Hardly anyone knew what to say and just said they would help in any way they could.  After they offered their help, I said there was not much they could do now and should just go home for now.  I stopped Garth before he left to ask him if he would take the vial of the liquid that smells like the substance in the one mug if he could run some tests on it to see if he could figure out what exactly it is.  If could not do that, I asked him to at least figure out what compounds and or chemicals are in the substance.

          “Just see if you can find out if we know what it is,” I finally said after trying to figure out how to ask him to find what in a yak’s brain the liquid is.

          Garth chuckled, “I’ll do my best.”

          After Garth left, Annabeth was nearby and walked over to tell me, “I left Anora on an island nearby here; about halfway between The Isles and Berk.”

          “That probably took a lot for you to do,” I stated.  “Having to leave her when you just got her back.”

          “Yeah, it did take her a lot,” Cazi added as she came over.

          Annabeth then asked, “Could you come with me and Cazi back to check on Anora in a few hours?”

          “I don’t know if I can go at a time like this,” I replied.  “But I’ll do my best.”

          Cazi said, “Meet us by our house at the end of say two hours and we’ll go

          Annabeth and Cazi understood and then bid my, “So long,” as they went back over in the direction of their house.

          I was just standing there for a few minutes staring at nothing in particular.  I realized how quiet it could get in Berk.  With all the racing done for a while now, the only noise that you could hear is Gobber working in his shop, the random murmurings of the village people, and the sound of footsteps walking over the wooden blank bridges and ramps with the occasional door opening or closing; also, the occasional dragon flying over head.  I did not know Berk could get this quiet after all the sounds of racing for the past few weeks.  Knowing that my father was under suspicion probably helped it feel even quieter.

          I had so many thoughts running through my head that I decided to go on a free flight on Fredrick.  Fredrick always liked these.  This is where he took me on a ride: he decided where to go.  Although when we were flying around, it was not his normal fast paced, racing, practicing his own moves kind of flight.  He just slowly flew around Berk a few times, out past the forest to the farms, up to the clouds, and then back again to the main village.  It felt as if Fredrick knew the severity of the situation of what my father is in and took his time on the flight.  He knew a relaxing flight would do me good.  I nearly fell asleep a few times.  The whole flight took about a half hour to an hour; I kind of lost track of time because I completely zoned out while sitting on Fredrick.

          Once we were done we landed at the foot of the bridge to Sven’s farm on the Berk’s side.  I got off Fredrick to stretch my legs by walking back the rest of the way home.  I stopped by Garth’s on the way home to see if he had any results yet.  I met him coming out of his workshop.

          “Oh Jarl,” Garth said.  “I was about ready to come looking for you.”

          “Any results?” I asked.

          Garth reported, “Well I couldn’t do too much with such a small sample of the substance.  But here is what I found:  If you touch the clear liquid form the vial with your bare skin, it will feel like it is burning.  If you drop it in water, it will dissolve into the water; so I conclude that the liquid in the vial is water based.  Not only did it dissolve into water, but with my magnifying class I could still see small, white particles floating around in the water after dripping the liquid in from the vial.  It couldn’t have been from the water as I made sure it had not traces of salt.  Even if I did not get it all out, the white particles were still big enough I could tell what they were.”

          “What were they?” I questioned.

          Garth stated, “My hypothesis is that these ‘white’, particles in the liquid here in the vial is:” said Garth as he gave me back the vial.  “Salt particles; because we I did drop some of the liquid into some salt water, the particles from the liquid looked identical to the salt particles in the water.  Give me more of this liquid, I could test my hypothesis.”

          “That’s all I have for now,” I replied.

          Garth said, “I thought you would not want me to use up the whole vial of the liquid, so I was very limited to what I could do.  So I just kept with the basics.”

          “You did fine, Garth,” I replied.  “I at least have a couple clues to tell me what the liquid is.”

          Garth went back into his workshop after speaking with me.  I peeked into his workshop to see that his underwater saddle was really coming along now.  The air-barrels were already attached to saddle, Garth had been working on the surfaces of each barrel to see if the attachments to the barrel caused in leaks to occur on the barrels.

          I arrived back at the house to see that no one was home.  I then assumed that my sisters and mother took some of the meal to my father.  I then wrote a note for my family, telling where I would be.  Then I exited my house by the front door, got back on Fredrick, and flew up to Olson’s house to meet Cazi and Annabeth who were waiting on their dragons Sparklebolt and Star Scream.  Cazi said Electic was somewhere off in the forest doing something.

          While I had gone over to meet the girls and then on the first part of the trip, I racked my brain to try and think of something that could possibly be the liquid in the vial.  The potent smell always denied what I would try to think of.  So except for the way it smelled, the only thing I could think of that would have the same properties as the liquid was: Tear Liquid.  Tear liquid from animals to vikings is clear and has traces of salt in them.  The only other possibility was sweat.  I did not think the liquid was sweat as pretty much all sweat has the same smell, unless the potent smell was masking the sweat, and sweat from vikings to humans seemed to be somewhat clammy or sticky Garth did not mention either of them.  So I narrowed it down to tear liquid.

          About an hour had passed before I could see the island that Cazi and Annabeth pointed out to be where they left Anora.  However, on the way to the island, I could a front of clouds moving in from the west.  They were regular cumulus clouds, but what had me worried were two things:  One.  They were rising, meaning there were updrafts pushing the clouds higher, making them “tower”.  Two.  Their underside was beginning to be a darker shade of gray.

          It was only about three hours past midday, but this time was primetime for storms to brew; still warm enough from the midday sun, but still cooling down as we are reaching evening.  It had been fairly clear all day, but when I got back to Berk I could see small cumulus clouds building and popping up out of nowhere seemed like.  The clouds had been building all day.  And as I feared, before I left Berk, an unorganized chain of clouds had moved in.  This was the front of the storm.  The temperatures on Berk seemed to dip slightly.  You no longer would feel hot when under the rays of the sun, but just a little cool.  There were several factors that told me that a storm was coming and it was not going to be good.

          Annabeth, Cazi, and I landed on the island.  When we landed, the wind started to pick up and was starting to gust.  Annabeth said we should go the rest of the way in on foot as Anora is still not used to people, especially for being away from them for so long.

          Before leaving the shore, I looked back out to the open sea.  What made me even more worried than I already am was the fact that I could see mist or fog starting to form out in the open sea.  This was not good considering today has been fairly hot.  To have enough of a temperature change to cause fog to start forming is not good.  I could also see that the actual storm front was getting closer and was starting to form a squall line.  That is not good either.  Squall lines bring with it straight line winds that are more powerful and destructive than regular winds with any other storm.  I knew I had to keep an eye on the storm as there were too many things factoring into a bad storm.

          Annabeth led us into the island.  The island itself was unique as there were mountain “stacks” going straight up into the sky that were placed “randomly” throughout the island.  There were a few twists and turns through a forest, until we came to a very large clearing.

          “There is a cave on the far side that I left Anora,” Annabeth said.  “Let me call to announce we are here.  She still only trusts me and Star Scream, that’s why I only asked you two to come back with me; the fewer the better.”

          Annabeth called to her old friend to say she was back.  The call was unique; well every dragon call is unique to every dragon, but they still had a similar tone and pitch.  You would just use different lengths and short bursts of sounds for that specific dragon, but a Razorwhip’s was seemingly all together different.  It sounded more like the supposed dragon language I hear about than an actual dragon call.

          Annabeth would call out something and wait for a response.  There was none.  She yelled a counter call to see if Anora was there.  If she was here, we could not hear her.

          “Something is wrong,” Annabeth nervously said.

          Cazi did to but stated, “Maybe Anora is further in on the island.”

          “I hope so,” she replied.

          I followed behind the girls as they walked towards the middle of the clearing.  The ground we were walking on seemed rather hard for dirt.  It was a mossy type of grass, so I thought maybe there was something under the moss as it usually covers things.  I was then bumped by Fredrick as he started walking closer to me.  I noticed both Sparklebolt and Star Scream did the same for Cazi and Annabeth.  I heard a slight rumble.  At first I thought it was thunder; but when I glanced around and my eyes fell back on Fredrick, the look on his face said it all.  Something was wrong.  Our dragons were getting defensive and were getting ready to defend us from something.

          I softly spoke and said to the girls in front of me, “Keep walking forward, but something is definitely not right.”

          Cazi asked while she still walked, “How do you mean?”

          “Have you noticed our dragons are walking closer to us?” I questioned.

          “Yeah, Sparklebolt normally does do that,” Cazi said as she thought for a moment.  “Unless… I’m in danger.”  Cazi’s pace seemed to slow to a more caution approach.

          “I told you something was right,” Annabeth declared.

          I then ordered, “Keep your eyes peeled and open for your surroundings.”

          We kept walked forward and past the cave entrance through to the other side of the clearing.  There was a slight downward hill that Annabeth called again to Anora.  There was a faint sound that followed Annabeth’s call.

          “That was Anora!” she declared.

          “Are you sure?” asked Cazi.

          “Sure, I’m sure,” she said as she yelled a different call that I assumed was a response to if Anora called to acknowledge her first one.

          We heard another call right after Annabeth did the second call.

          “That’s got to be Anora!” Annabeth exclaimed.  “Come on!”

Chapter 18

Warning Siren

          We started running in the direction Annabeth pointed.  She kept calling out to Anora and the return call kept getting louder and louder.  After running over a few dips and hills, we came to the edge of a small cove and then looked in.  Down below about ten feet we saw Anora caught up in the net of a dragon trap.

          “Oh, Anora!” declared Annabeth.  “She is trapped.”

          I quickly scanned the immediate vicinity and saw that there were a few medium thick, tall trees down right next to us to our left.  It looked almost as if something had ran into them as the trees themselves were bent over in half, but not completely cut in half; there were a few sides to a few of the trees still rooted in the ground.  The branches of the fallen trees hung out over the edge of the cove in front of us.  I suddenly realized that the dragon trap that Anora is in was attached to one of the fallen trees.

          I quickly said, “Anora must have run into the trees and set off the dragon trap.”

          “She must have been chased by something and tried to out maneuver it or got shot by it and flew into the trees,” stated Cazi.

          Annabeth then said, “Would you two stop talking and start helping me get my dragon out of the trap.”

          Suddenly there was a dragon screech.

          “Wait,” I grabbed Annabeth’s arm.  “I know that screech.”

          “That sounded like,” Cazi agreed.  “Changwings!”

          Fredrick then roared at Star Scream and Sparklebolt.  They both started flying up right after his roar.  This caused the Changewings to un-camouflage themselves as they had been found out.  There were several of them!  All these things were happening so fast that we did not have time to react to the shots of the Changewings.  Star Scream and Sparklebolt affected their aim just enough that Fredrick had enough time to shoot a blast at us that shoved us out of the way of the acid blasts just in time.  Fredrick as well joined in the fight as he jumped back as he shot at us.

          Fredrick’s blast knocked us off our feet and over the edge of the cove.  All three of us were standing close together as we had been looking over the cove.  So when Fredrick shot us, even though we did not have enough time to react to the acid blasts, I did however grab one of the overhanging branches with my right hand and then with my other arm Cazi’s left arm who was on my left.  Nearly at the same time that I grabbed the branch and Cazi, did Cazi with her right arm grab Annabeth by both her hands.  The branch is one of the side branches and bent over quite a bit from the weight of all three of us combined; it bent nearly enough that we three could safely jump to the bottom of the cove.

          I yelled down to the girls once the branch had bent down as much as it could, “When I say it, we’ll all jump down at once.”

          Before we jumped I looked up and could see a fight involving the girls’ dragons and the Changewings.  A Changewing had seen us and started to fly towards us.

          When it was nearly on top of us I signaled, “Now!”

          We all three let go of each other and I let go of the branch.  The girls did a sideways roll to recover to a stand while I did a somersault roll to recover.  When I stood back up and I saw the branch had swung up and had hit the Changewing in the belly.  That dazed the dragon and made it fly out of control for a moment.  I looked back up to where we were standing and saw Fredrick had his own problems:  He was dueling with a few Changewings himself.  The one Changewing I had hit with the branch flew over to help his “buddies” with my dragon.

          Our dragons were distracting the Changewings enough so that we could get Anora freed.

          I looked at the ropes and said, “These ropes are too thick to cut with my knife.”

          “My swords should do the trick,” replied Annabeth who had to speak louder as all the thunder from Fredrick, lightning blasts from Sparklebolt, and the fire explosions from Star Scream along with all the dragons whooping and hollering at each other.

          Annabeth reach back behind her and grabbed one of the handles of her swords that were in their sheaths, crisscrossed over each other.  She pulled it out and quickly made work of the rope net that had held Anora; and then put her sword back behind her.  Anora was quickly freed and promptly started shooting back at the Changewings.

          “Oh great,” Cazi declared.  “Now they’re coming after us now.”

          “There were coming after us anyway,” I responded.

          Anora held up her wings in protection of Annabeth and fired some of her own shots at the incoming Changewings.  Three of the incoming dragons had to dodge Anora’s shots which caused them to shoot inaccurately, thankfully.  Their shots landed all around us.

          “Come on!” cried Annabeth.  “Get on Anora.”

          “I thought you said she didn’t like us?” questioned Cazi with a slightly uneasy tone.

          “Just get on!” she said as she grabbed Cazi to help her up on Anora.

          Annabeth followed her up and got on Anora.  The Razorwhip started to extend her wings to launch up, so I hopped on before I was left behind.

          There were four Changewings coming in behind us that would have fired if it had not been for Star Scream covering out backs by fending off the dragons with his blasts.  We kept having to maneuver left and right to avoid the acid blasts while trying to shoot back at the Changewings to defend ourselves.

          “They just keep coming!” declared Cazi.

          Annabeth then remarked, “We’re out numbered nearly three to one!”

          For several minutes the battle ensued and seemingly the Changewings felt as if they were growing in number.  But then all at once the battle stopped and all the Changewings froze to halt and just started to hold their positions in mid-air.  Even Anora, Star Scream, and Sparklebolt did the same thing as Changewings.

          “What’s going…,” Annabeth started to say.  “What’s that sound?”

          Because the dragons stopped fighting, we could hear a strange sound coming from somewhere nearby.  It seemed to get louder and softer almost like a siren or whistle of some kind.  I noticed all the dragon’s eyes seemed to narrow.

          “Something is causing all the dragons to stop what they are doing,” I replied.  “Something is controlling our dra-.”

          I was cut off by the sound of my dragon roaring towards us with a full head of steam.  He charged several Changewings and flew through them knocking them all to the side.  Fredrick turned and thunder blasted every Changewing he could see; chaos from the Changewings ensued.  When Fredrick came over, Anora, Star Scream, and Sparklebolt all shook their heads and started to move.

          The pack was in disarray and every Changewing did not know what to do.  Once one Changewing started retreating they all soon did the same.  Whatever made that sound certainly saved us.

          We flew back to the clearing as our dragons followed us back there.  I was quite amazed at how Anora was able to fly with three riders on her back.  Her maneuvering ability was quite impressive with the extra weight.  Granted, collectively, we do not way as much as some vikings do who are much older, but still three riders is a considerable amount of weight to carry.

          Cazi and I both found out how much Anora did not like us on her because when we landed in the clearing; Annabeth was able to dismount fine, but once she did, Anora kind of “shoved” us off her.

          “I see Anora still is not accustomed to strangers,” Cazi said as and I picked ourselves up off the ground.

          “Oh Thor’s hammer,” Cazi declared.

          I asked, “What’s wrong?”

          “I broke a nail,” Cazi remarked, slightly smiling.  “It must have happened while I awesomely jumped to the ground back there.”

          “Is that all?” I stated.

          “Is that all?” Cazi repeated.  “Do you possibly know-…”

          I interrupted, “You girls and your nails.”  Cazi was about to say something in reply but I continued, “Anyway.  Are you all right?”

          Annabeth had been checking over Anora and replied that she and her dragon were alright.  Cazi did the same with her’s and replied the same.  I check my dragon as well and said that he was alright too.

          Cazi stated, “Not often do you come out of an attack from Changewings nearly unscathed.”

          “Nearly unscathed?” I questioned.

          While shaking her right hand Cazi said, “My-…”

          “I know,” I said.  “Your nail… does it hurt?”

          Cazi cocked her head and gave me a look, “No, it doesn’t hurt in the least little bit.  I wanted to shake my hand just for the sake of it.”

          I rolled my eyes as I could hear a hint of sarcasm and changed the subject, “I wonder what that siren-like sound came from?”

          “I don’t know,” replied Annabeth.  “But whatever it was, I’d-…”

          Annabeth stopped talking as a very rapid wind gust blew and nearly knocked us off our feet.

          “Brrrrrrr, that is cold,” Annabeth said grabbing her arms.

          The wind had been gusty ever since we got here, but it had just now picked up another notch.  Not to mention it told me:  The storm is nearly here.  With the air being as cold as it is compared to what it was plus the swift wind gust probably measuring the first burst of acceleration from a Thunderdrum, there is one dangerous storm approaching.

          Without saying a word, I mounted Fredrick and flew above the tops of the trees and looked westward.  Fredrick had to put up a thorough fight to keep stationary in the wind.  Cazi and Anora joined me.

          “I knew there was a storm coming,” replied Cazi.  “But how bad is it?”

          “Not good,” I answered.

          The squall line had completely formed.  You could now see the clouds on the leading edge of the storm look like they were being pushed back up over itself.  The storm itself was a cold front; hence the sudden plummet in temperature, heading east.  And the air in front of the storm was warm hence the squall line forming and heading west.  Cold air is heavier than warm air.  So when two air masses of drastic, opposite temperatures collide, things like this will happen.  When the two air masses meet, the cold air mass wants to be where the hot air mass is; but the warm air mass does not want any part of it so it forces its way over top the cold air mass.  As the cold and hot air masses meet, they are about as bad as Ruff and Tuff trying to enter while the other is exiting: The first one not giving an inch while the second tries to go over the head of the other one.

          One other thing to note is that there is a torrential down pour coming as there seemed to be a thick layer of clouds all the way to the surface of the ocean.  You could also see that the ocean waters were very rocky.  There are so many things that were contributing factors and signs of a very bad storm approaching.

          “We got take shelter, quick,” I yelled to be heard over the racing wind.  “The storm is a level five.”

          “What is that supposed to mean?” questioned Annabeth.

          I answered, “It means if you don’t want to be torn to shreds by an angry storm, we need to take cover as soon as we can.”

          Just then a lightning bolt struck on the western side of this island’s shore at nearly the same time an earth shattering sound of thunder came to our ears.  We covered them because it was so loud, even Fredrick cringed somewhat underneath me as the thunder was so loud even with his hearing it affected him.

          Annabeth nodded and led the way back to the cave in the clearing.  The cave was large enough for each dragon to walk right in, single file.  I let everybody go in first and then told my dragon to follow them in.  I took one last look outside.  As I did, another lightning bolt hit a nearby.  It was a further west of the island, but still had the same magnitude sound wise of the one before.

          Without warning, I heard that strange siren sound again.  This time it was a lot louder and was coming from the west.  I looked back in that direction and could see a large object flying this way.  It was a large tree ripped in half.  I saw the half tree to come flying towards me.

          So I ran back into the cave thinking that the siren noise warn the Changewings to stay away and now warned me from impending danger.

          I ran to the girls and screamed, “Everybody forward!”

          Both Cazi and Annabeth asked why but I shoved them forward while our dragons were ahead of us.  The girls kept demanding why I was pushing them until a loud crushing sound came to our ears at the same time all the light from the cave was gone. The cave shook as dust and other rocks fell from the ceiling.  I kept pushing the girls forward, but now with not as much resistance; though we kept stumbling over rocks on the floor.  The cave was still shaking as we could feel a cave-in was imminent.  The cave-in did happen, but thankfully only at the entrance.  We reached a larger cavern that all our dragons could huddle around us.

          A minute later, the cave stopped shaking and no more things were falling from the ceiling.  I stopped and sat down on a rock.

          “I’m sorry for the way I shoved you girls,” I apologized.

          They both said I did what I had to do.

          Annabeth stated, “Without you telling us to get going, we probably would have never had the head start we did and would be under rubble right now.”

          Cazi quipped, “Aren’t you Miss Encouraging; thinking about the bad that could have happened.  But I know what you mean.”

          Once we all had sat down and caught our breath, we started to hear the pouring rain come down outside; even through the walls of the cave we could still hear it.

          Annabeth got the idea to go find some firewood and asked Star Scream to light a fire in his mouth so she could see.  The only light in the cave was that of Star Scream and I could visibly see that the girls and dragons were alright.  We all had dirt all over us, but that was all I could see.

          Cazi made the remark she would have to wash her hair at least twice to get all the dirt out of her hair.  I laughed as I started to sniff the air.

          “What’s that smell?” I questioned.

          “What smell?” asked both Cazi and Annabeth.

          I replied, “Don’t you smell it?”

          “That smell,” I repeated.

          “You’re not making any sense, Jarl,” said Cazi.

          I sighed, “Let me show you.”

          I kept sniffing and followed where I thought it was coming from.  Fredrick quirked his head and looked very confused by what I was doing.  I followed the smell all the way to Anora.

          “It’s Anora,” I announced.

          Annabeth replied, “It’s… Oh that.”

          “Oh what?” I questioned.

          “Now don’t you start,” Annabeth said.  “That smell you are smelling is coming from Anora.”

          Annabeth came back over to Anora as she was slightly shying away from me.  Annabeth petted and calmed down the dragon by softly speaking to her saying, “It’s alright.  He won’t hurt you.”

          After a few times saying that, Anora seemed to relax and I came over.  I sniffed Anora’s face and I was shocked.

          “That smell you smell is Anora’s tears she has.  Her eyes secrete a dangerous toxin via her tears,” described Annabeth.  “In other words, Anora has poisonous tears.  All Razorwhips have that.”

          I do not know what my face looked like when I realized what the smell was.  It probably looked as stunned as one of Meen’s pans hitting me square in the face… that actually happened once.

          The smell of Anora’s tears is the exact scent that I smelled from the vial!  Maybe not Anora’s, but a Razorwhip’s tears killed Vlarrin!

On the Subject of Hackers

please read this link, it helps to identify the different types of hackers. I have hacked computers, and servers in the past (despite not being the best at code) but I never do it for personal gain. Unfortunately the hackers most people refer to on the internet are crackers so they bring a bad light on the hacking community in general. I only learned to hack code because I needed to in order to hack my microwave and other software in my house.

Don't be a Cracker you ruin it for everyone!

I looked at it, it looked at me, and it was silent for a few minutes. Ok... weirdness attack. Whatever, he's still a baby dragon. Nadder: The Silver Nadder (Aka: Moonstone, Silverstar, Diana) - Female -

  So that's why Sun Rose leaves one a year, she's going to visit her sister, Mooonstone. How did I know this? I saw it myself. When she left, me and Thunderquake went to she where she went every year (Yeah, kinda like a stalker, but who knows if she goes mental and starts killing everything? Actually, TMI), she flew into a cave. I waited until night, and suddenly, a silver nadder appeared, and flew out. It came back at dawn, and after it went in, Sun Rose went out. They did this, then I couldn't take it anymore. I need to find out who this dragon is. I crept in, and the Silver Nadder shreiked, then flashed it's wings at my face. Startled, I stepped back. It snarled, and backed away. I decided another plan. When I saw Sun Rose, I signaled her to come to me. She first, well, was startled, then frightned. After face-palming myself, I tossed a fish on teh ground. She ate it, and after gaining her trust, I stepped in the cave with Sun Rose, and soon enough, I found out that this new dragon was Sun Rose's sister, and I took her home.

Typhoomerang: Topspin (Aka: Big guy, Wirlwind, FOOOM) - Male -

Bio:

  This one is a sad one... So there was this typhoomerang that I knew very well. We met in a forest, and even though we were friends, I didn't tame him. Dunno why I didn't, he was awesome. So, a few months late, he found a mate and they had a baby typhoomerang. Then suddenly, his mate died. I felt very sorry for him, and because he had to feed the baby, he left the baby typhoomerang with me. We formed a bond, but in the Chilling Horror month, he went to get some fish... and never came back. I waited for days, and I fed the baby myself with some perch. My friend never came back, so I chose to adopt the baby myself. At night, he would have terrible nightmares, and he would go to my room and sleep with me. He had a serios fear of Backbiter, and I was sorta heartbroken that even though Backbiter wanted to play with Topspin and wanted to stick with him, Topspin always was scared of him and either attacked or flew away. But I know, that one day, the nightmares will pass, and the two dragons will grow to respect each other. My typhoomerang... my Topspin.

Personality:

Always cautious, Defensive, Always on the lookout, Active

Favorite Food:

Eel... I can finally use them!

Favorite thing to do:

Just anything that doesn't involve Backbiter or sitting around

Intresting Fact:

He kills eels for sport... I hate that.

Sandwraith: Sandstorm (Aka: Puppy Dragon, He-who-burrows) - Male -

Bio:

  It's funny how a fishing trip can befriend a dragon. So I was spending some time on my own (Raising a ton of dragons is tough, I need a break), and I was fishing and camping out on the beach. I just caught a bunch of halbut and salmon, and I was frying a salmon. *Growl* Huh? I looked up, then left and right. I then felt the ground move, and I looked down. Two eyes stared back up... "YAH! WHAT ON EARTH?!" I jumped back. At that time, I never knew what a sandwraith was. I'm new here, ok? The sandwraith exploded form the sand, and looked at me. Silence for a few seconds... then he wadled to my basket of fish and started eating everything like he didn't care. "Hey! That's my fish!" He didn't listen, and ate all of it. He then turned, and studied me. He looked like a nightfury, so I was intrigued. He then jumped and flopped on me and started licking my face. "You're like toothless!" I laughed, and he licked some more. "Hey, boy! Stop it!" He kept on licking me, and he soon decided that follow me was a better option than chilling in the sand waiting for who-knows-what to go over him. Smart kid.

Personality:

Playful, Smart, Seems to always be hungry

Favorite Food:

Salmon (DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO FISH FOR ONE?! *shouts at Sandstorm, he licks me and wadles away.)

Favorite thing to do:

Act majestic

Intresting fact:

First dragon I knew nothing about in the beginning.

Seashocker: Aquashock and Waterskiz (Aka: Zapduo) - Male -

Bio:

  So, a few days ago, I received a present. Not sure who sent it, or why, but I got it. It was wraped in colored leather, and when I opened it, I found an egg. I couldn't tell the species though. It was colored in multicolors, with "Thanks Hyrith" written in bright yellow paint. I shrugged. The only way to find out the species is to hatch it. When I picked it up, I was shocked. No, not the suprised shock. The lightning shock. I fumbled with it, and Telsabeam jumped from the roof. I think she sensed it was a skirll, so I shuddered. I don't have anything against skrills, just after Telsabeam almost burned down my house becasue she saw a fly, I've been a bit careful with her. I do not need another crazy lightning-maniac shooting around my house. I ploped it down on the hearth, and after a few minutes, it shook. I picked it up, and took it to the lavepit for it to hatch. It never did. It just shook, but it never came out. Just before Telsabeam was about to crack it open, Waterspout stared at the egg, and shot a small stream of water. The water touched it, then it cracked. Puzzled, I dipped my hand in water, and touched the egg. Where I touched, it cracked. Then, I actually figured out something. I took the egg to the sea, and placed it under the water. It shuddered, then a seashocker was born. I was extremly happy, and I thought all my dragon were too. Well, except Telsabeam. She grumbled a sign of disappointment, and wadled away. XD

Personality:

Aquashock is agressive and fierce. Extremly loyal, and will attack anything that he thinks is harming me.

Waterskiz is playful and wild. He loves doing tricks, and is usually the reason why they have so much scars. For some reason, he's addicted to shrimp.

They both work together as a team, probabily because they know that if they argue, they won't go anywhere.

Favorite Food:

Aquashock: Squid

Waterskiz: Shrimp :\

Favorite thing to do:

Bounce on the waves, SO FUN WHEN RIDING THEM!!!

Intresting Fact:

We Are Not Alone, A Chinese and Western Crossover (Later on)

5 months after Hyrith disappeared...

  "Who's there?" Jin sat up on his bed. It was 12 in the night, and most of the academy was asleep. The footsteps sounded louder this time. Jin pushed away the covers, and put on his combat glove. As soon as his hand slipped in, a small flame sparked in his palm. The footsteps stopped, and a creaking sound was heard. Silence. He waited for a while, and figuring that there was nothing, slipped off his glove and pulled the covers over his head.

  "AHHHHHHH!" A scream peirced the cold air, and Jin fell out of his bed. In a hurry, he shoved the glove over his hand, and opened the door. He lit his glove, and the flame ignited in his hand. Across the balcony, a hooded dark figure stepped out of a room. Jin stood in a battle stance. The flame in his palm grew into a fireball, and Jin shouted to the figure.

  "Who are you? Take off the hood!"

  The hooded man turned to Jin, and removed his hood, revealing an old man with a long white, whispy beard. The fireball died down. "Master Zhang?"

  "Yes, my young student. Why are you here? You should be in your room sleeping, not outside watching the snow fall."

  "I woke up because of the scream. Did you hear it too? Did someone get hurt?"

  "That was the reason I came, young one. Go to bed, the final practices starts tomorrow. Do you want to get the blade or not?"

  "Yes master, but safety is more important. Mind if I investigate with you?"

  JIn bowed, and the old master smiled. "Jin, investigate this floor. I'll take the top and bottom floors. Meet after 5 minutes." Jin looked at his old master. He was not usually that kind, but Jin shook that thought out of his mind. He needed to see if someone was hurt.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  "Found anything yet?" Master Zhang glared at Jin, and he looked into the final room. Another sleeping student. "Nothing, master." Master Zhang looked at him, and smiled. "Well, I think it's settled. Let's have a seat, shall we?" Jin shrugged. The master jumped, and sat on the railing. Jin climed up to him.
 "Anything, Master?"
 "Nothing yet, child. Forget this. It's a good night to be alive, is it?"
 "Yes, I agree. You checked every room?"
 "Every room, youngling. How about you-" A howl penetrated the air. A Howler flew towards Master Zhang, and the yellow and black dragon growled. Wait. Jin looked at the Howler, and noticed something. That was Dai Pow, Icarus's dragon. He never submitted to anyone, not even the master, except Icarus. Dai Pow circled Master Zhang. He glared at him, and then glared at Zhang.  He kneeled, and Zhang grumbled under his breath. "Curses. Stupid howler." He then looekd at Jin. "Let me see Dai Pow first." He jumped off the railing, and Jin looked as he kneeled and clasped the wingless dragon's head, speaking some words. JIn nudged myself over, then he felt something. JIn looked down, and he saw blood on the railing, where the master's hand was. Sticky, freash blood.
   The last room...
  Jin shoved past the master, and to the final room. He didn't check it, since it was the room the master came out of. Jin ran past, and saw a stream of blood running from under the door. He slammed it open, and he gasped in shock.
 Mei Hua layed dead in her bed, a large bloody gash in the middle of her chest. Her mouth was open in shock. Jin ran to her, and noticed that the blood was freash. Impossible! The master just was in here! Master Zhang would never commit such a crime! A hand then went over Jin's shoulder, sending a chill up his spine. The master glared at him, his mouth curing into a evil grin. Shocked, Jin tried to speak. "What? How? WHY?!" The master smiled. "Yes, Jin. I am the one. Sorry, but I can't have any witnesses." Suddenly, Master Zhang's form flickered, and instead of the Master from before, a red haired boy, stood in his place. He suddenly jabbed his palm at Jin's chest. A blade then shot out, coming out of Jin's back. Jin gasped, and he fell to the ground. His vision slowly filled with black dots, and he thought his last thought.
