But it's so HEALTHY for you xD

But it's so HEALTHY for you xD

On a more sad note, Stoker was a very good, very brave little dragon. I didn't have much chance to write about him but someone cared very much for the terrible terror.

Chapter Thirteen

Reptiles to the Rescue

The sea spread out before us wide and empty. Not a mast on the grey horizon.

On an upside though the rain finally stopped.

Ebony drifted lazily between dragon riders. Thank goodness no one had to wake her. When we got back to camp we found that she’d eaten everything but the perch out of the cache Meatlug and Shattermaster brought back. She was ridiculously pleased with herself.

We were making good time. It’s about a day’s flight to Caldera Cay from Melody Island and by ten we had already passed Algae. Flightmares are not as keen on being active during the day so we had no trouble there.

I found myself staring at the water far below. Was that a shimmer, or a strange black and white creature I saw? I tapped Stormfly and we broke formation.

Gliding down to sea level we were met only by waves. Not a beastie in sight.

“What are you doing?” My husband glided in next to me.

“Nothing. Thought I saw something but it was probably just a dolphin.”

He studied the water. “Black and white?”

“Yeah. You saw it too?”

He nodded absent mindedly.

The rest of the gang swooped in to join us.

“What are you two love birds talking about?” Snotlout interrupted with one of his smug grins.

“Gushy stuff.” I said, just for the fun of irritating him.

“Ugh. Nevermind I don’t want to know.”

“Okay so we all know that Dragon Hunter Island is only about two day’s distance from Caldera Cay. By boat of course. Who wants to put money on those rapscallions?” Fishlegs growled.

“MONEY? I want to put macey on those rapscallions. And IN those rapscallions.”

“All in good time, all in good time,” Dagur chuckled wickedly. “My sword is thirsty too.”

“You guys remember the part where we don’t fire first, right?” Hiccup turned in the saddle. “And the goal isn’t to end them.”

“Of course. But it’s a guarantee they’re going to shoot so, might as well anticipate.”

“Just remember -cough- some of us -cough- were just as bad as they are once.”

“Ouch. Drudging up the past, eh Hiccup?” Dagur rolled his eyes. “That’s beneath you.”

“Just to prove a point is all.”

“Speaking of beneath us, canvases at nine o’ clock!” Snotlout pointed due west.

Six to seven white masts gave away a substantial fleet. We hooted and hollered. Out came the javalin again.

Hiccup set his jaw. “Formation!”

We rose in the sky, leveled and formed a diamond. Hiccup and Toothless the head Dagur and Sleuther the tail. Hiccup checked and tightened the strap of the saddlebag holding Trooper.

“Shattermaster, middle,” Dagur gestured his loose dragon.

“What are we going to do with her?” The twins gestured our newest member.

Hiccup looked down at Toothless. “Wanna see if she’ll work with you, bud?”

Toothless looked behind him and cooed at Ebony. She stared with her wide yellow eyes.

He cooed again. Slow but sure, she edged her way up and flew above him and Hiccup.

“Double Fury strike bet they won’t see that coming!” Ruff and Tuff fist pumped.

Thanks to the cloud cover we closed the gap quickly and quietly. Just as suspected the ships crest belonged to the hunters. We had found our quarry.

Almost on top of them, Hiccup raised his right hand. We waited in silence.

He dropped it and we dove.

With one hand I reached for my axe, with the other I clasped Stormfly’s saddle, breathing in and out heavy.

“Let’s do this!” I whispered in her ear.

She raised her spines in excitement.

We emerged from the clouds, each Viking and dragon shrieking their own battle cry.

Circling the ships at high speed we fired one or two warning shots. Stormfly launched a couple spikes at the deck. Heather, Windshear and Shattermaster prepared to catapult the latter through the ships’ hulls.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Toothless and Ebony about to fire, and to my surprise Toothless swallowed his blast and stopped Ebony.

Hookfang ignited and flew gracefully between the masts, lighting each one.

“Snotlout Snotlout Oi Oi Oi!”

…So much for not firing first.

The twins, never to be outdone by a Jorgenson, crossed his path, Barf pouring gas and Belch sparking.

CABOOM!

Toothless groaned, refusing to take Hiccups cues. The latter studied the ships.

“Stand down! Stand down!” He shouted as loud as he could. “Cease fire!”

Nothing changed.

“DAGUR!” He belted to the Berserker and pointed downward.

Dagur studied the ship. His face turned ashen.

“SSSSSSSTTTTOOOOOOPPPPPP!” He roared at the top of his lungs.

Everyone held their position.

I turned to our quarry. It was true that most of them had the hunter’s crest, including the flagship. But some paraded a different flag entirely- an Eruptodon.

Of those carrying the hunters flag, as I looked more closely I saw that many were badly damaged and then repaired in haste. The masts were torn and frayed, big burn spots dotted the deck and the hulls had suffered critical damage from… what appeared to be… the Gronckle maneuver?

Heather and Shattermaster hovered by. It wasn’t their doing.

“What gives?” Ruff demanded. “Can’t you see we are in the middle of total carnage? You should know better than to get between the Thorstons and their victims.”

“LOOK who you’re annihilating,” Hiccup gestured.

The people aboard the ships were making no attempt to fight back. They were too busy hurling bucket loads of water over the decks. Two in particular, a man with a red, shaved-sides pony tail, and a woman in black and gold stood out.

“My darling baby buppie-bunga-boo!” Dagur gasped and dove for the deck.

“Would you look at that,” Tuff smiled pleasantly. “It’s the Defenders of the Wing! Hey I can see Queen Mala from here! Ugh and Throk. Between you and me, that guy’s a weirdo.”

“What are they all doing out here?” Snotlout and Hookfang looked to each other, perplexed. “And by ‘all’ I mean ALL of them??”

“Does it really matter right now Snotlout? Look what we’ve done to their fleet!”

“Oi!” Throk yelled from the deck of the largest vessel. “Put out the masts!”

“Oops.”

Snotlout turned red in the face.

War dragons switched to rescue dragons in the blink of an eye. Stormfly and I swung low for a mouthful of salty water to spew at the sails in flame. The others followed our lead.

As we put out the fire Hiccup flew alongside the flag ship, assessing damage.

“You guys are taking on water?” He asked.

“Yes,” Mala leaned over the side. Dagur was kissing his apology, starting at one hand going all the way up her arm and back down the other. “These vessels are not seaworthy but we had little choice. Could your riders bring wood and tar from Algae Island and help us repair?”

“Not a problem, Mala!”

Once the masts were put out Hiccup and I boarded the largest vessel for a meeting of the minds.

“We’re soo sorry for threatening your fleet like that. When we saw the sails-”

“We know what you thought. If I saw these sails nearing our harbor we would have prepared for battle as well. We hold nothing against you. YOU on the other hand,” She looked to a sheepish Dagur with fire in her eyes. “You and I need to talk about communication skills.”

“In my defense I haven’t been home for a while. I was busy making the archipelago a better place for you. And dragons!” he offered a toothy smile.

She glanced behind Hiccup to Toothless and Ebony, who were making faces at each other. “You have found another one,”

“Yes! Long story short, yeah. On Gullgut Island of all places.”

Mala did not look well. There were bandages around her arms. Covered in soot and exhausted, the spark had left her grey-blue eyes. Her hair was a mess, her face was downcast and her posture spoke defeat.

Dagur’s countenance changed as he stopped thinking about himself and the trouble he was in and started worrying about his wife. He found her a chair. “Honey, are you alright?”

“Her arms are half burned and she has been leading us without rest or food for the last forty-eight hours. No she is not alright.” Throk retorted, bristling. Ever the loyal henchman, he wasn’t keen on Dagur’s wild and unpredictable behavior, especially if he thought it was to the neglect of Mala.

“I can speak for myself, Throk.” The usually even-tempered queen snapped.

Dagur gingerly examined her wounds. They were pretty severe.

His blood boiled to his head, until he looked like a beat with two eyes and a scar. His left eye twitched.

“Sweetheart, who did this to you?” the Berserker asked in his calmest voice. Those of us that knew him well took three steps back.

“Lava.” She answered, looking away. “I gather, in spite of everything, you’ve received my messages?”

Hiccup took a step forward. “One, Mala.”

“I sent two to Berk.”

“Only one message made it, the one with Stoker. Mala, we found him in the ocean. He is gone.”

The queen shook her head miserably. “I should not have sent him. It was against my better judgement to have the little dragon do my bidding, but I had taken so fondly to Stoker and he wanted so much to please me. I should not have sent him.”

Worn to a fray, this last bit of bad news proved a little too much. Silent tears fell down her cheeks. “Who would do such a thing?”

“Someone who didn’t want us to know you guys were in trouble.” I growled.

“We did rescue the other one,” Dagur tried to give her some glimmer of hope. He put an arm over her shoulder, wanting desperately to make her feel better, to make it all go away. “He was badly burned but he’s healing now.”

“That’s right,” Hiccup was quick to agree. “Trooper’s fought hard. I have him in one of Toothless’ saddle bags. Let me return him to you,”

“No,” Mala answered, attempting to regain composure. “He is better off with you and your dragon riders than with us now. You did not receive his message?”

“It was burnt off. What did it say?”

“Stoker was our first messenger. When we did not hear from you we intended to send Mauve, or Trooper, as you call him. But disaster struck.” She looked around at us, resting her gaze on Dagur. “Caldera Cay is no more, and our beloved Protector may be lost.”

“The Island is gone? And the Eruptodon, too??”

“It is nothing but molten rock now.”

Hiccup kneeled down in front of the husband and wife. “What happened?”

“I do not know. Two nights ago a thunderstorm blew in. Between the lightning blasts I was awakened in the first morning hours by the Protector’s mighty roar. When I looked out I found the streets of our ancestral village flowing with lava. We hurried to evacuate, every second hoping the Protector would come and stop the flow, but he never did. So we loaded everyone into the boats, resurrecting hunter’s ships in sheer desperation, and we have been adrift in our misshapen fleet since.

The only reason a Protector would not perform his duty is if he is not able. Something kept him from it; whether a terrible illness, an injury, or perhaps the storm. I fear the worst.” She cupped her hands over her face. “Twelve. I have failed twelve of my people. The lava cut them off and we could not reach them in time. It was a terrible thing.”

“Oh, Mala,” Hiccup’s voice wavered.

“They went bravely,” Throk looked out across the sea. “And the strongest saved the little ones by tossing them over the molten rock to us. Mala’s wounds are from rescuing one of the infants.”

“The walls of our village have stood for over a thousand years, guarded so carefully by the Eruptodons of the past.” Mala continued. “Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, we have lost our home, our heritage, our island, twelve of our people and I fear a dear friend. You cannot know the pain I feel right now, or the burden of a people without a place to call their own. In a single night, we have been laid desolate.”

He stood. “I- I don’t know what to say.”

“There is nothing that can be said.” She breathed in deeply, looking up at Hiccup, and then Dagur. “There is something you can do though.”

“Anything.” Dagur said, eager to help in whatever way he could.

“I must know if the Protector lives. Will you riders search Caldera for him?”

“You can count on it,” Hiccup and Dagur nodded.

The gang returned with supplies and everyone pitched in to patch the crippled fleet. Snotlout and Hookfang had marked unstable beams and weak spots in the hulls, they also organized work teams. Heather and Windshear helped the defenders measure and cut the lumber brought in. Dagur who was very familiar with patching up dragon-raided ships made quick work with the wood, and Sleuther tripled that speed by hammering nails in with his tails.

Hiccup Toothless and Ebony followed behind Dagur and Sleuther with the tar. At one point Dagur looking around, and took Hiccup aside. They spoke in hushed tones for a minute, exchanged something, and went back to work.

The old unusable wood was taken to Hookfang who burned it, then given to Fishlegs who mixed it into a pot of warm water and saliva from Shattermaster, creating black paint. He and Meatlug rose up to the mast and painted an Eruptodon over the Hunter’s crest. Meanwhile Barf and Belch stitched together the sails that were torn.

Stormfly supported the deck as the main beam was replaced, as she did with all the beams. When that was done, the Gronckles came down and poured Gronckle iron from top to bottom of each beam. They also covered any weak areas on the outside of the hull with Gronckle iron

With dragons, what would have taken the average Viking crew days to get done we managed to finish in about four hours. The hardest part of the whole job was trying to convince Mala her people needed her rested and alert more than they needed her help with repairs. We almost had to go on strike just to get her to go to bed.

When the work was finished I recruited Snotlout and Fishlegs to help me catch some fish for the defenders, who had to leave in such a hurry there wasn’t time to load provisions.

“Here,” Hiccup was saying as we got back. He was handing our entire supply of food over to Throk. “You guys take these.”

“We cannot accept this,” Throk tried to turn the stubborn Haddock down. “You need these rations for your own journey.”

“Nonsense. We have dragons, remember? They’re experts at catching fish!”

“This isn’t just fish, you have produce and bread in here. Dragons can do many things, but I’ve never seen a dough-making-”

“Heads up!”

Before the defender could argue another word we dropped our catch on the deck next to him. As he watched, distracted, Hiccup loaded him down with the food for our journey.

Ebony ran up, excited to see so many tasty things all in one place. Fish, bread, Throk.

“Oh no you don’t,” Fishlegs stood between her and the catch. “You pulled a fast one this morning but that’s only going to work once. Shoo! You’ll get your fish later.”

“…And then loop the yak-bone back through… tie it in a knot, and there we go!”

Belch chomped down on the excess twine.

“There you have it. Ten splendidly sewn masts for the Voyage of the Dawn Defenders.”

I looked up at their handiwork. String hung in random places, ugly patches marked the burn holes, and some stiches spanned a length of three feet. The Eruptodon Fishlegs had worked so h.ard on looked like he’d been hit repeatedly by a Quaken. It was disconcerting.

“Thanks to us, these sails will hold through the thickest of storms!”

“I do say, my dear bro, this business of mending has been therapeutic.”

“It has indeed, sister. Perhaps not as therapeutic as arson, but soothing, none the less. Make a note of that for our upcoming New Bork Times best seller, ‘Chicken Soup for the Viking’s Soul’. Between bludgeoning and ship sinking.”

“Consider it done.” Ruff tossed the bone and string behind her. Ebony, Meatlug, and Shattermaster chased after it.

“You guys ready to go?” Hiccup and Toothless joined us.

“Almost.”

Dagur was quietly shutting the door to the captain’s quarters. Mala was finally getting some much needed and well-deserved rest.

“So I’m guessing you’re headed for Algae Island,” I said to Throk.

“That is correct. We will weigh anchor until the ships are fully mended and we have gathered enough provisions to make it to Odin’s Respite.”

“May I propose a change in course?” Dagur walked up to the Defender.

“On what grounds?” Throk growled.

“Odin’s Respite has never been settled and there are buildings standing idle on Dragon’s Edge. It’s not far, it’s safe, and it would be nice to leave the home of the Buffalord as it is.”

“I don’t think you have the right to offer this island,” the Defender returned stiffly.

“Actually, he does. He just bought it from me.”

All eyes turned to Hiccup. It would have been very hard to imagine, seven years back, him handing over the Edge to Dagur of his own free will.

Throk bowed to Dagur, still not on friendly terms with the berserker but looking a little less irritable. “How can I argue?” He ordered a change in course. “When the Queen awakes I will let her know what has transpired.”

“If all goes well we’ll meet up at the Edge in a day.” Hiccup said.

“Sooner, I hope,” Dagur added.

He nodded. “Odin’s speed to you. And take care, the mountain is fierce.”

Hiccup, here's some advice: fly away from Caldera Cay as fast as is dragonly possible. Who knows, if you fly fast enough you might even survive. DX

Gushy mushy Dagur

Well, when I started writing this story he and Mala were not a couple. After seeing that season I had to change a few things... like the fact he'd never been to Caldera Cay or met her :P

Don't worry this is the mushiest he gets xD It can only go uphill from here- and if you want to watch the rest of RTTE it's a Netflix original series. They have trial memberships for a month, you should be able to see it that way ^^

I can't, my internet runs out so fast as it is, I'm risking it using up a month's worth in a couple of weeks coming on here, let alone watching something. Only upside is, it's portable XD If I ever get better internet then I'm definitely watching it.

What series is it after they lost the dragoneye?

Chapter Fourteen

Chapter Fourteen

Caldera Cay

Hiccup fell into an irritable silence as we traveled. He seemed to be retreating into his own thoughts and whatever they were they weren’t good. Toothless sensed his boy’s tension and grew nervous.

Fishlegs and Snotlout argued over how they thought the Hunters could wreak such great havoc on the Defenders. Dozens of theories were tossed back and forth. The twins spaced out, bored with all the rationalizing and Hiccup clutched the saddlebag with Trooper in it closer.

“You know what? It doesn’t matter what any of us think because we don’t have enough information. Just hurry up so we can get there before nightfall and piece this stupid puzzle together.” He finally said.

The cloud cover fell upon us, becoming thick fog. Toothless led the way with echolocation.

We found ourselves shrouded in an unearthly darkness.

A north wind filled with ash and steam hit us. We were getting close.

Ebony snorted. She shook her head.

“What’s up, girl?” Fishlegs asked.

Her wide yellow eyes looked around to each of our dragons. They rested on Toothless. She hissed and chattered her teeth. Flying out in front, the dragon cut-in to veer us off-course.

Toothless nimbly avoided her and continued. Our dragons watched her brake off as they followed their alpha.

Ebony grunted and came alongside Stormfly. Without warning she body slammed into my Nadder. Stormfly rawked, falling out of formation and almost running into the twins.

“Ebony!”

Pushing and shoving, she tried to force the others to follow her.

“It’s okay girl,” Hiccup tried to sooth her as she grew more agitated. “Calm down.”

Ebony ignored him and turned to Hookfang. She cooed and coaxed and urged him to break away. He enjoyed pretending not to even notice all the attention.

Desperate, she fell back and yanked on his tail. In surprise and anger the Monstrous Nightmare turned and spat a small fireball at her.

“Okay. This Nightfury is officially broken.” Snotlout growled. “Every dragon knows you don’t pull a Monstrous Nightmares tail.”

After wiping the flammable spit from her face Ebony decided to try a new tactic.

“Whoa hey! Stop it!” Hiccup yelled.

She had zipped passed us and tried to swipe Trooper’s satchel away from Hiccup. They battled tug-of-war style for a few brief seconds. Ebony meant business and barred her teeth as she pulled. If Toothless hadn’t intervened she probably would have tugged Hiccup right out of his saddle.

SNAP! Went Toothless’ teeth a little too close to Ebony’s beating wings for comfort. She let go.

Hiccup righted himself and adjusted the saddlebag, dumbfounded.

Ebony, bested and embarrassed, turned to look Toothless in the eye. She got up close as she dared and roared at the top of her lungs.

He put on his most attitude face.

The wild nightfury fell back and followed at a lengthy distance. She continued to beg in forlorn, lonely grunts as we grew further apart.

“She’s not following,” Dagur pointed back to the black blob in the sky. Between the fog and ash she had all but disappeared from sight. Sleuther rolled his eyes, wanting to move on.

We stopped and turned. I could feel Stormfly tighten beneath me.

“Be nice, girl. Everyone deserves a second chance.”

“Come on back Ebony,” We called forgivingly.

A stressed and unhappy squeal was returned.

Everyone coaxed in gentle tones but she just refused to come.

With one final sorrowful cry she turned away and disappeared into the mist.

Hiccup sighed. “This day just keeps getting better,” He muttered under his breath.

“We should go after her,” Heather spoke first.

“We can’t. The Eruptodon may be in really big trouble and if he is we are the only ones who can help him. It’s all hands on deck, who knows what we’re going to come up against. As much as I hate to say it we have to keep going. Once we’ve assessed what needs to be done Astrid and Heather can track Ebony down and see what she’s up to. She can’t get into too much trouble in such little time.”

And so we parted ways.

The closer we drew to the island the darker it grew until the light of day was entirely blotted out. A low and sinister grumble reverberated from the bowels of Caldera Mountain. Cloud and fog had been replaced by thick, stifling toxic ash. The temperature rose dramatically.

We wrapped bandannas over our mouths and noses. The dragons were well adept to volcanic material and did not need them.

“Land-oh!” The twins shouted. “Or more appropriately, “Volcan-o!”

I got my first glimpse of what had been a flourishing paradise on my last visit. It took my breath away.

Through the dark an evil red glow silhouetted half a melted Eruptodon statue. Marking the place of an ancient and beautiful village, it alone stood above the ashes, everything else lay buried under fifty feet of hardened lava.

Ugly grey mounds coursed through the very heart of the island, streams of lava glowing fiercely in the rivets.

Not a single green leaf was left of the thriving forest. Indeed all life had been snuffed out here. The bodies of hundreds of animals floated in the water below. Forced to choose between a fiery death or a watery grave most had thrown themselves to the mercies of a violent sea.

The Defenders had spoken the truth. There was nothing left of this beautiful place.

We came upon charred pilings holding up the last remnants of the main pier.

Toothless landed on one of the pilings and Hiccup called for a circle formation.

“I need two teams.” He said as we flew around them. “Offence and defense. Offense scout the shores. Just like Melody Island look for ships or signs of recent activity especially on the north side. Astrid, Heather, Dagur, Ruff and Tuff, you guys up for it?”

“Absolutely.”

“Great. Fishlegs and Snotlout, your dragons are best suited for the high temperatures at the mouth of the volcano3 so you’ll come with me and Toothless. Dagur can we take Shattermaster?”

“Sure thing.”

The wind picked up. Another stormy night was brewing but this time to our benefit. Rain helped to knock some of the debris out of the air and we could see better.

From the sky Caldera looked like a slimy, deathly black monster of the underworld. It was eerie to think so much devastation could happen in two days.

There were no signs of ships mooring anywhere around the island. And since everything else was covered in fifty feet of hardened lava, up the mountain we flew.

The Eruptodon’s nest seethed angrily. It gargled and spewed putrid smells that belonged deep in the earth below. Molten rock flowed steadily through the lowest clefts of the volcano’s mouth. As far as I could tell the peak of the mountain had remained intact.

“Over here!” Snotlout yelled to us from the other side of the glowing red lake. He, Hookfang and the others took on strange shapes through waves of heat.

Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as we crossed high above the lava. Memories played in the back in my head.

“Did you find him?” I asked.

Hiccup pointed.

The lava chamber should have been completely submerged but it wasn’t. The ceiling had been smashed-in, making a sizable air-pocket. Inside the cave I spotted three great spikes protruding out of the lava.

The Eruptodon sat up, stretching his wings and lifting his mighty body out of the molten rock. Lava splashed around him like water. He spouted through his nostrils like a whale taking a deep breath.

“He’s alive,” I sighed with great relief.

The Great Protector groaned.

“He is alive. Hey GP Junior, what gives? Your little siesta just melted the whole island!”

“Tuffnut!” Fishlegs shot back, “Look at him,”

Junior, as we had grown fond of calling him heard our voices. He crouched and sniffed the air nervously.

“Don’t worry big guy, it’s just us. You’re safe now.” Hiccup called. Toothless echoed his words with a coo.

Junior submerged, retreating further into the cave.

Toothless and Hiccup flew back and forth like worried parents. Finally, they could take it no more.

“We’re going in.”

They dove. Toxic gases spewed out and Lava bubbled up as high as fifty feet. The two cheated death at every tun by spinning, diving, and breaking for every hurdle tossed their way. At last they neared, just enough to make eye contact with Junior.

“Hey Junior, what’s going on? Do you need any help?”  Hiccup said as he searched for injuries. He spoke so softly the dragon probably didn’t hear him. Toothless cooed a more audible message.

Junior did not seem too keen on their company.

The enormous boulder class dragon growled. He wriggled his whole body back and forth, splashing molten rock everywhere.

“Easy boy, easy, it’s just us,”

The Eruptodon grew more agitated. He gave a warning roar before standing weakly on his legs and raising both wings.

“Oh boy.” Hiccup gulped. “Toothless pull up. Pull up pull up pull up!”

The Nightfury’s eyes widened. He turned tail and gave it his all to get out of that volcano.

Junior the Giant collapsed on his belly. He beat his cupped wings as he went down, creating a massive, forty-foot-tall tidal wave.

“Faster!” We shouted as the wave gained. “Faster hurry guys!”

They escaped by the skin of their teeth. With one last burst of energy Toothless cleared the wave and spun around to avoid the impending backsplash. It shot up into the air like a fountain of red fire.

“Are you guys okay?” Fishlegs joined them.

“I am. Are you bud?” Hiccup looked his dragon over. Toothless smiled with his tongue out.

Below the Great Protector moaned and agitated the lava, making the already inhospitable environment even worse. The whole mountain shook.

“I vote we regroup,” Snotlout held up a hand.

Hiccup nodded. “Let’s head over to the sea stack down in the bay.”

That particular sea stack had toppled from the rumblings of the mountain. Many others had too but not all. We found one leaning precariously against another and alighted there.

A gentle wind blew away enough smoke and cloud cover above for the sun to peak through. It was just touching the western sea.

“What happened up there?” Fishlegs asked. “Why did Junior turn on you?”

“I don’t think he knew it was us.”

“That’s strange, he’s always remembered us in the past.”

“He was reactive. Reactive like he would be if he’d been attacked- by dragons.”

“You don’t think-“

“I do. Guys, chunks of Juniors armor have been blown off, both terrors were burned, and the deathsong was struck by a rock accessible only by dragon. That and the fact Junior is afraid of us leads me to one conclusion. We are dealing with marauders/hunters that are riding dragons.”

“I knew it!” Snotlout growled. He didn’t, obviously, but that’s Snotlout for you.

“For now let’s just focus on Junior. If we wait until morning I’m sure the mountain… and Junior, will be less agitated. Maybe he’ll recognize us in better light.”

Great thing about all that heat our blankets had dried! No soggy wraps tonight.

The sun sank into the ocean. Dusk was upon us.

As we ate Toothless sat turned away from us, still looking up at the mountain. Hiccup stood with him for some time. He got too cold though and sat down by the fire.

“Here’s to getting through another crazy day,” I lifted my mug.

“Here,”

Heather was the first to join me.

“Here here,” The others chorused.

Hiccup grimaced down at his drink.

“So,” He set it aside. “Are you guys ready to track down poor Ebony?”

“Oh you mean now that we’re all comfortable?”

“I’d go myself,” He shrugged. “But you know how she feels about Toothless.”

At his name’s mention Toothless glanced back. His nostrils twitched and the pupils of his eyes became slits.

“Can I go with them Hiccup?” Fishlegs volunteered. “I want to study Ebony, and Meatlug could be really helpful with coaxing her back, since it’ll only be Windshear and Stormfly coming along.”

I put my hands on my hips. “Are you saying Windshear and Stormfly aren’t the coaxing kind?”

He shrugged. “They’re more… the battle type. Not very trusting and Ebony needs a little kindn-“

Toothless squealed in horror, making all our dragons jump to their feet.

He rushed Hiccup, throwing him down and sniffing his nose and mouth.

“Not this again! Bud, you’ve got to get ahold of yourself!”

Poor Toothless cried out. He put his paw on Hiccup’s face and pried his mouth open, stuffing his big nose in and sniffing furiously.

“STOOAAAW, TOOWWESS!”

Hiccup twisted around, escaping his dragon’s grasp. The Nightfury stared with hurt and fearful eyes. He licked Hiccups face.

“Really?” Hiccup gave up and allowed himself to be tortured.

A roar echoed through the dimming sky. The only two stars out seemed to shiver in its wake.

All eyes turned to the mountain.

Ash blew away from Caldera Cay, briefly silhouetting the entrance of a cave near the peak

And with it a dragon.

“Ebony,” Snotlout grinned, jabbing Hookfang with his elbow. “Guess she just can’t get enough of you, pal… OW! Hookfang!”

She leapt from her perch and glided toward us.

“What a good little night fury!” Ruff and Tuff waved their hands in the air. “You did follow us!”

Toothless arched his back and leaned in closer to Hiccup.

She turned a wide circle around our sea stack that grew shorter with every orbit.

Rawk, I felt Stormfly sidle over.

As Ebony closed in, she turned her head to look at us with fierce purple eyes.

PS- sorry for the 'purple' eyes, I know you can't stand that but I had to think of something to make it distinct ^^

DON'T DRINK THE TEA!!!

Toothless doesn't trust Alvin's tea. (Neither do I...) I'm assuming that's the part you were talking about, where he's looking in Hiccup's mouth and everything. ^^

The way of the eyes

Yes, I know, I know purple eyes aren't cannon for NF- but it helps to differentiate between dragons and frankly I like the color :P ^^

Chapter Fifteen

Chapter Fifteen

A Turn for the Worst

It was not Ebony.

I grew dizzy watching the magnificent creature circle. Rich purple eyes glanced from one Viking and dragon to another, powerful wings cut effortlessly and silently through the air. It was like gravity had no effect.

Gigantic, he was almost the size and a half of Toothless. The little flaps under his chin, of which Toothless had four, had almost grown into a full beard, and although it was difficult to count while he was in motion I estimated about ten to twelve on each side.

The mountain groaned and our little seastack tremored. Dust fell where it leaned against the other stack.

The purple eyes rested on Toothless. His ear flaps vibrated.

Toothless cocked his head to the side.

Stormfly sniffed the air. She looked away from the circling dragon and towards Caldera. I followed her gaze.

“Look!” Tuffnut pointed before I could utter a word.

Like Night Terrors there burst from the mountain cave a half a dozen or so black, winged beasts.

Purple eyes continued to circle with ear flaps vibrating. The swarm of creatures turned to us. When they arrived they followed his lead.

“Guys we di.ed and went to Valhalla!” Ruff and Tuff threw their arms out.

Fishlegs swooned.

Hiccup was beside himself. “How?” He said, again and again, steadying himself against Toothless, face aglow with joy. “Just- how??”

The Night Furies dipped under and flew over each other.

Tuff and Belch leaned outward to the circle.

The nearest dragons snarled.

“Hey,” Hiccup warned. “No sudden moves.”

So many expressions. Some wide eyed and curious, others suspicious and aloof.

Everyone buzzed with excitement. Only Purple eyes remained silent. His ears continued to vibrate.

A new sound met our ears. It was like trilling but constant and unchanging. The swirling dragons rippled as a single figure broke through.

All eyes turned. The sea stack shuddered as four rigid white legs set down. The dragon they belonged to took our breath away.

She was ghastly white, looking more like a ghost than a living creature. The three little flaps on both sides of her jaw, the area around her eyes and her nose, on the tips of her toes, her tail, and much of the skin between the fingers of her wings, all of that was fleshy pink. Every scar she had ever acquired shone bright, looking like wounds that had never truly healed.

Her blood red eyes showed no expression at all as she reviewed our lot.

The double fin tail wagged behind her as she lowered her wings. As the origin of the constant trilling sound her ears and flaps vibrated unceasingly. Her tiny little nose seemed to be hard at work too, so if I had to guess, I’d say she relied more on what she heard and smelled than what she saw.

Legs stiff she made her way over, stepping like a rooster and lifting her tail ever so slightly.

“Okay everyone. She just wants to check us out, so… keep your dragons calm, and don’t move.” Hiccup instructed.

Most of our dragons were willing to listen but there is always that one in the crowd… and for once it wasn’t Hookfang.

Sleuther was up in arms and there was nothing Dagur could do about it. He tried to get the Triple Stryke to lower his poisonous tails and fold his wings.  Sleuther was smart enough not to do anything but he refused to back down either. Claws open and head low he was ready to fight.

Unlike Ebony the albino seemed much more interested in our dragons than in us. Her first inspection was Windshear.

She made a slow and determined circle around the Razorwhip; extremely careful not to let her nose make contact. Satisfied, she moved on.

One sniff in Meatlugs direction and she passed the Gronckle uninterested. Barf and Belch required a little extra vibrating, but she did the same for them too. And to Hookfang.

This was all fine and dandy to Stormfly until the albino made it to us, and we too, were overlooked. I tried not to smile at my Nadders’ frivolous embarrassment.

With Sleuther she kept her distance. First she slinked a wide circle one way. Sleuther tracked her making sure to stay between her and Dagur at all times. She ran out of ground, then circled the other way, walking past Shattermaster twice like he was nothing.

Our inspector snapped her teeth, sending a message out amongst the Furies. All of them cooed and trilled and hummed. All but silent Purple eyes.

Last but not least, her attention turned toward Toothless.

He bobbed his head slowly in greeting but like Windshear she was more interested in his tail- at least the metal part of it. Toothless allowed her to smell it. He tilted his head sideways, watching as she vibrated in fascination.

“Like that, do you?” Hiccup said.

For the first time, the eyes turned from their complacent stare to look directly at someone. Her expression changed as she walked towards Hiccup, ears following his handiwork up Toothless’ side to his saddle, where the gears that gave Hiccup’s prosthetic leg control over the tail connected. She paused, letting her nose make the jump from the gears to Hiccups’ false leg.

She stood as tall as she could over him, blood red eyes looking intensely into Hiccups’ face. Toothless was quick to turn and stand at his side, sticking his head under Hiccup’s arm. The two dragons were identical in size.

The albino’s stoic gaze fell on Toothless. She snorted and nodded her head.

His tail wagged. He lolled his tongue, teeth retracted.

She turned her vibrating ears back, cranking the volume up on the trilling.

Toothless looked confused. He rubbed against Hiccup.

The albino growled low. Toothless’ mouth dropped open, eyes wide. The circling dragons flew in just a little closer.

She growled again.

Toothless’s eyes turned fierce. He barred his teeth, crouching and pushing Hiccup behind him before squealing to our dragons.

Our meeting didn’t feel so warm and friendly anymore. I found myself ready to jump on Stormfly. She flared her quills. Hookfang snorted, Meatlug grabbed Fishlegs with a paw, Barf and Belch got their necks crossed fighting over which Thorston they wanted to pick up, Windshear hissed and spread her wings and Sleuther roared.

Hiccup seemed a little slow to the draw. This was usually the part where he’d order us all on our dragons unless he figured out some secret to the newcomer’s aggressive behavior. Right now he only looked confused.

“What should we do, Hiccup?” I asked, calmly as I could.

The white Nightfury held her head high, looking down upon Toothless as he tried to snarl at her and force Hiccup onto his back at the same time.

She spread her wings. Together the Nightfuries dove out of sight.

“Where are they going?” The Twins asked in alarm.

“Stormfly,” I said urgently.

“Mount your dragons.” Hiccup turned to get on Toothless.

With one powerful stroke the albino lifted off the sea stack. Toothless tried to drag Hiccup onto his back with his teeth.

He was almost in the saddle when we were blinded by flashes of blue light.

It was instantly followed by ear-splitting thunder. The ground beneath our feet gave way and the entire sea stack plummeted into the ocean.

Stormfly rawked in alarm, catching me by the arm. She turned sideways making it possible for me to crawl up her leg and into the saddle.

Sleuther was just as quick to get Dagur on his back. He even managed to help Shattermaster get up and flying by grabbing one of his legs with a tail. Snotlout had good instincts. When the blue light flashed he had launched himself at Hookfangs neck. The monstrous rider and his dragon were fiery with rage. Barf grabbed Tuff and Belch grabbed Ruff, placing each Viking to the opposite head. Windshear caught Heather by the hood and placed her on her back, Meatlug used all for legs to catch Fishlegs. She spun around, tossing him in the air screaming until he landed squarely on her back.

Prosthetic leg slipping out of the stirrup, Hiccup and Toothless careened toward the water as the albino looked upon her work without expression.

“Pull up!” Dagur yelled to them.

About ten feet above the water Hiccup got himself and Toothless together. They collected and made a clean dive, avoiding the rubble.

Our dragons prepared to fight.

“Hold your fire!” I took command.

Albino studied me and my Nadder with new interest, but she quickly turned her ears toward Sleuther. The nightfuries, ever circling came in close to him. He snarled defiantly.

“Hold it,” I warned once more. It was all Stormfly could do to obey.

Silent Purple eyes lead the swarm, awaiting the white dragon’s cue. Her ears went back.

He and the other dragons opened their mouths, glow of plasma shining bright.

Rrrrrraaaaaaaaaaooooor!

Out of the ocean burst Toothless and Hiccup!

They spun, blasting three shots; two toward the dragons readying to fire on Sleuther and one at the Albino.

“Wow that’ll wake you up!” Hiccup gasped, wiping sea water off his face.

“Fire!” I yelled to everyone else. “Warning shots only!”

Nightfuries broke formation.

“FLY!” Hiccup shouted, pointing south. “It’s our only chance!”

As one we turned tail and slipped through the circle.

“They’re crazy!” Snotlout screamed. “They’re trying to k.ill us!”

“They’re going to catch up, we’re no match to their speed!” I yelled.

“Head for the defenders!”

“No!” Dagur roared. “We can’t lead these dragons to the defenders they’ll be destroyed! We can’t ask them to fight against what they protect.”

I looked back. The dragons dove toward the water, gaining on us… not as fast as I expected though. “They’re coming,”

Sleuther fought Dagur all the way for the reigns. “He wants to go up,” Dagur said.

“That will just slow us down! Keep flying,” Hiccup told them. “We need a battle strategy.”

He shook his head over and over. Toothless veered one way and then another at Hiccup’s sloppy cues.

“That doesn’t include hurting those endangered dragons?” Fishlegs added hopefully.

“HURTING THEM? Hello they want to eat us!” Snotlout roared. “I vote for a plan where we survive.”

“Hate to agree with a Jorgenson there, Fishlegs but as much as I like an endangered species I really don’t want to become one.” Tuff added.

“No one is going to hurt them. But we’ve got to do someth-“

An idea stuck the Chief. He dug wildly through his saddle bags.

“DO we have a plan yet?!?” Snotlout roared, looking back. “Because they do! It’s called dinner!”

“Everyone put earplugs in your dragon’s ears.”

“What??”
“Just do it!”

We did what he said.

Hiccup fumbled with stuff as he searched. Things fell out of the saddlebags right and left, and his ability to guide Toothless worsened. He held onto some twine he brought for emergency saddle-mending.

“I found it!” Hiccup said, pulling a nautilus bugle up. You would have thought it was gold by the look on his face. Not paying attention, he ran Toothless into the twins.

“Lookout!” They pointed.

We looked up. There was the albino nightfury, and she had ears on Toothless. Gliding down to our level her eyes worked hard to focus on him. She trilled loudly.

Once more we were surrounded by the black dragons. Purple eyes was closest to me. He stared at Stormfly with a look of pity that unnerved her.

“It’s okay, girl,” I stroked her forehead, “I won’t let him do anything to you.”

He turned his gaze from her to me, wonder in his eyes.

Toothless listened as the Albino continued. She looked up at Hiccup and back down to him. Apparently, what she said was extremely rude because Toothless made a face of disgust and snarled back at her. Hiccup stuffed the earplugs in his dragon’s ears.

The white dragon snorted, pulling away from us. Purple eyes followed her lead, and the rest followed him.

“Okay…” Ruff said.

Before she finished the Albino turned a sharp 180. A blast of plasma flew through the night sky and hit Toothless in the shoulder. He cried out.

It demolished the gear system and left his false tail fluttering in the wind.

“No no no!” Hiccup grasped at the shattered pieces.

As quickly as she turned so did the others.

They weren’t just random shots. These dragons were smart. A ball of plasma narrowly missed Stormfly’s head; only because she had turned just at that second. She wouldn’t have survived if it had hit. I looked back to see an impressively fat Nightfury with yellow eyes casually looking away from us.

Having two heads Barf and Belch were targeted in the wings instead. Less volatile blasts pelted them, the work of silent purple eyes.

Hookfang got two adolescent Nightfuries clamping down on his flaming tail and coming at his neck. He was quick to snake around and take a snap himself. The two dragons fell back.

“Hookfang Hookfang Oi Oi Oi!”

Sleuther was in full combat mode. No dragon had as many antagonists as he did, they seemed to flock to him like magnets. Over and over he blocked head shots with his claws. Wing attacks were almost futile for the Triple Stryke who was as agile as the Nightfuries. Poisonous tails and a fiery breath deterred any ‘claw to claw’ combat, but still they relentlessly crept in. He ended up siding with Windshear who was also taking a lot of heat.

Strangely enough none of them took interest in the Gronckles. Once or twice one would fly up and try to pull Fishlegs out of the saddle but that was about it.

Stormfly screeched in anger. She shot her most powerful blast into the aggressive dragons. It held them at bay just a few seconds longer. We rushed to Hiccup and Toothless side.

“What can we do?” I asked.

“Take this twine, rope it around the false tail,” He gave me the rope, wiping cold sweat from his forehead. “I can use it to guide his tail.”

We slipped behind them. Toothless did his best to keep in a straight line so we wouldn’t have to chase his tail everywhere.

I was making a little loop to tighten around one of the tail barbs when Fishlegs yelled to us.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw her. Blood red eyes filled with rage, ears vibrating, carefully on point. In her mouth was a k.ill shot of a fireball, and it was aimed at Hiccup.

Time stopped. My mind told me to rush in front of him but my body could not move fast enough. All I could do was watch as the blast left her mouth and came at my husband.

A blaze of red zipped past me and Stormfly. It came between the fireball and it’s intended target.

Bam!

The monstrous nightmare, hit squarely in the chest was flung by impact against Toothless and Hiccup, knocking the latter out of the saddle and away from his dragon.

Shattermaster jumped into action. He dropped like a rock, catching Toothless before he crashed once more into the sea.

Stormfly dove and plucked Hiccup carefully out of the air with her talons.

“Trooper!” He gasped, hooking the saddlebag with his false foot just before it slipped away.

We looked upon a terrible sight. Hookfang spiraled toward the ocean. His eyes were shut and his mouth was open. Snotlout had been thrown off at the same time as Hiccup and thankfully the twins had managed to nab him.

A mighty splash and the Monstrous Nightmare disappeared beneath the waves. With effort, the two adolescent Nightfuries broke off to follow. An adult popped out of nowhere and joined them, fighting savagely over the pickings.

“Hookfang!” Hiccup reached toward the fallen dragon.

“Guys help him!” Snotlout cried out. “You know he can’t swim!”

Our fleeing party came to a halt. None of our dragons were strong enough to pull the monstrous nightmare out of the water.

Once again the dragons of night surrounded us. This time though there was no firing because they had run out of shots.

But so had we.

The new tactic was to take turns diving in and snapping at our dragons. It was an old game but a classic.

We made a protective circle, each dragon and rider pointed outward, guarding one another’s wings. Windshear, Stormfly and Sleuther flared their tails as a deterrent to any dragon that might think of entering from the inside.

Back and forth they dipped and rose, testing the strength of our shield.

Albino circled around us, not taking a part in the pack’s work. She had not used up all her shots.

Toothless struggled to keep himself and Shattermaster airborne. He looked up at the devious white creature. Anger spread across his face.

Stormfly still held Hiccup in her talons, and he still held the string and bugle in his hand. He pulled Trooper’s bag up and put it around his shoulders, then he took off his false foot.

“What are you doing?” I ducked as the same impressively fat Nightfury snapped at me.

He was shaking his head and trying to steady his hands. “Ugh.” He groaned. “I’m makig- making, a diversion… but something’s wrong. With me. I can’t stay awake.”

“What? What do you mean?”

“Astrid, when I drop this you guys take off at your highest speed. Try to save Hookfang.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

He didn’t answer. “Everyone better have the earplugs in their dragons’ ears!”

“Hiccup-”

Hiccup looked over his contraption. He had wrapped one end of the twine around the mouthpiece of the bugle, and then tied the other end to his false leg.

He dropped it.

The horn, dragged down by the weight of the metal leg caught the wind in the mouthpiece and sang as it sailed.

Every dragon not wearing earplugs stopped what they were doing. The pupils of their eyes turned to slits and they followed, mesmerized, as the Deathsong Horn careened downward.

Hiccup slumped.

“Hiccup? Hiccup!” I screamed at him. He just dangled there in Stormfly’s grasp looking lifeless. Toothless roared at his boy, flapping against Shattermaster to get closer, terror on his face.

Another dragon gave an angry roar. The albino. She sealed her earflaps to her neck and made such a noise that it drowned out  the bugle- at least for herself.

Free from the call of the deathsong, she turned and flew away.

Sleuther looked around. Hiccup was down. Toothless was down. Snotlout and Hookfang, down. Barf and Belch struggled with the weight of an extra Viking, Shattermaster was giving it everything he had to keep airborne, and Stormfly and I were preoccupied trying to rouse Hiccup. In the meantime a bloodthirsty dragon lurked in the darkness and as soon as the bugle fell into the ocean, her pack would return.

With a mighty toss of his head the Triple Stryke roared, taking control whether Dagur or the rest of us liked it or not.  He broke our circle and flew straight up into the sky.

“Sleuther where are you going?!?” Dagur yelled out.

Stormfly turned an eye his way, the others looked hesitant.

The Triple Styke roared again, urging haste.

My girl gave up on our defense. She turned to the others and rawked, encouraging them to follow Sluether into the clouds. Shattermaster was the first to break off, Meatlug and Windshear close behind. Neither giving much thought to what their riders were saying.

Barf and Belch quickly joined the ascent.

“No you can’t leave him! You can’t leave him!” Snotlout hit the Zippleback’s leg with his fists. “Let me go I’ll fend them off myself!”

I tried to turn Stormfly back but she refused. There was a determined look in her eye as she glanced down at Hiccup. I knew what she was saying. She and the others knew the only thing we Vikings would accomplish if we tried to save Hookfang now was get ourselves k.illed, and they weren’t willing to lose us, too.

Stormfly took up the end of the procession, Snotlout’s angry cries clear and crisp in the open sky above us. She breathed heavily as we flew straight up with powerful wing-strokes. All the dragons did, but Sleuther roared mercilessly at them demanding they go faster.

The air grew thinner. Going the exact opposite direction of the mesmerized Nightfuries we were fast to lose sight of them in the clouds.

Every wing beat became a struggle, even for those not burdened with extra weight. Still the Triple Stryke flew pushing the others with tough love.

Then with dread I recognized a trill. It grew louder with every second as the albino Nightfury gained on me and my Nadder.

“Faster girl,” I found myself urging. She raised her spikes and this time I didn’t care if she dealt that dragon a savage blow. I looked beneath us.

Ugly white skin and blood red eyes broke through the fog below. She was right on our tail!

Toothless snarled fiercely, not hesitating to blast three fireballs at her.

She ducked for one, got her tail nicked on the second, but with the third… with the third she turned her ears to him and waited. When he shot it, she shot one back.

The blasts hit each other and the result was phenomenal. On impact they exploded; all the fire power of the two shots combined scattered into bright fingers of bluish lightning, stretching out across the darkened sky. It was both beautiful and terrifying.

Toothless coughed, trying to blast again but he had reached his six-shot limit. The Albino on the other hand still had three more.

She snorted and turned away from him. Unable to fly, unable to fire, he was no longer any concern.

Working her way up and ignoring our struggling dragons she now focused on the biggest threat among us- Sluether. And by the speed and effort she put into catching up she aimed to finish this fast.

Sleuther roared one last time with urgency. We could hardly breath now, we were so high up, and the dragons were gasping for air. Yet they listened, and with their last ounce of energy they thrust themselves forward.

The fog fell away and we were greeted by the moon and stars. Safely a hundred yards above this second ocean made of cloud, Sleuther at long last stopped.

I felt dizzy because of how thin the air was. We had to be at least twenty-five thousand feet up. My breath turned to ice crystals almost before it left my mouth.

Before we could see her, we heard her, circling below before rising out of the cloud cover.

She glowed deathly white in the light of the moon, her red eyes almost ablaze.

Sleuther snorted angrily and flew between her and the rest of us. He lowered his head in challenge.

She stopped her circling and hissed. Her mouth opened but nothing came out of it.

Sleuther raised his tails and came closer, threatening to strike.

Again she opened her mouth but nothing came. She grew angry and nervous, flying back a few paces.

“What’s happening?” Heather asked, fearing for her brother.

Fishlegs wheezed. “The air is too thin up here for her to spark a fireball! Sleuther’s got the upper wing now, because he doesn’t need a spark for the poison in his tails.”

The Triple Stryke belted out an intimidating roar.

Stormfly growled and joined him, raising her tail.

Meatlug and Fishlegs threatened to ram her, Barf spewed gas in her face.

The albino roared and flew down under the cover of cloud.

She was retreating!

“We have to get out of here,” Dagur said and Sleuther grunted as they flew past. “Hiccup bought us time with that bugle, but it won’t do any good if we don’t leave now.”

“Stay above the cloud cover,” Fishlegs warned. “They can’t see us, may not be able to hear us, and most importantly, can’t fire at us.”

It wasn’t like we had a choice. These were the things the dragons were already doing, we were just along for the ride.

Silent tears fell from the Jorgenson’s face. There was nothing anyone could say or do.

Toothless forced Shattermaster over toward me and Stormfly. He cried pitifully as he licked Hiccup’s face.

Icy fingers of fear gripped at my heart. We were only ten feet apart but I didn’t even know if he was still alive.

Yesh

Yeah, I know. It's funny that you had a 'white Night Fury' before DreamWorks XD at least yours is just a freak of nature and not a sparkly subspecies.

Well it was kind of a given

Heh true. I knew they were going to do a white NF and make it female and have Toothless fall in love with it- so I decided to put my own twist on things. What if she wasn't so nice? xD

The idea for the LF is very cool- especially superheating her scales so that they become mirrorlike and reflect everything around them. The final design? meh. But I'm neither very against or strongly for her design- on one hand it looks unreal and the other everything that goes really fast is smooth. I did like the way she pranced and some of her cat like behavior, and more timid personality. I imagine all LF (not just female) would be a little more timid because cloaking is a defense mechonism usually, and still wondering if they swim really good since most of their design is very fluid.

Sorry got on a rabbit trail :P Yesh, the Albino is a freak of nature instead of a squishy sub species xD
