--Setting--

It's been a long and hard 3 years since dragons disappeared from the world.

Most dragon-dependant tribes have collapsed entirely; The Defenders and Wingmaidens were among the first to go, the Outcasts dissolving into a number of smaller groups after internal conflicts, and Berk… well, it survived, but just barely. Each winter has been a dice throw for them so far, and the once grand empire of a tribe has shrunk down closer to what it was before the Riders. The numerous clans of hunters have either dissolved or rebranded as pirates, and many outposts and villages lie abandoned, picked clean by wandering scavengers.

Some outsiders, unaffected by the turn of the age, have started to notice the vulnerable state of the Archipelago. And if that wasn't bad enough, the attackers seem to be ones of legend and impossible folk tales; Lycanwings. But as with most resurgences of legends, they're not quite like the ones from the stories. Survivors tell that they look normal, for the most part, but can turn draconic in the blink of an eye, with fangs and scales and wings but standing like a man. Only a few individuals have been confirmed so far, but the numbers are growing and the facts blurring.

Few chiefs believe the nature of the attackers, even less are willing to stretch their defences even thinner than what they already are. So instead, a small group of volunteers have taken their own initiative to face the so-called Lycanwing threat before things pass the point of no return.

--Rules and Stuff To Note--

  • This is going to be an open-ended plot-heavy RP- I've prepared a bunch of story elements and various moving pieces that will depend on the actions of your characters; things can go well, or they can go badly. This does mean I won't be steering the plot the whole time, and people will need to take initiative and do stuff themselves
  • Please only join if you're confident you can post often; at least once every 2-4 days. If you are going to be unable to post for a while and know ahead of time, please let me know.
  • Since this is post-Hidden World events, there will be no dragons (I'll avoid spoilers as much as I can, just in case)
  • PM me your form before posting it so we can discuss things like secrets or plot ideas
  • Edit your track/reserve post when posting the form. Helps to keep things neat and easy to find. Use 'Spider Bryan' in the subject to show you've read this
  • No, you can't be a secret Lycanwing. I know this will make some people sad but it's too much detail to give out to people and over-complicates an already heavily developed plot
  • While I will have a primary character in the main group, I will be taking full control of all NPC's, even ones related to your character and loaned to me. You can talk to me about how to write your extra characters though, and tell me if I make a major mistake.
  • Speed Run: the RP begins in a week (24th Aug EST). Reserves expire on start and WIP's expire 3 days after

ALSO: If you're not interested in joining the RP but like the story idea, I'll be writing a fanfic version as well!

--Form--

The version you initially post and the version you give to me will be different if your character has any secrets or unknowns about them you want to hide from other players (for the ~suspense~). You can update the form as in-fiction developments are made. Delete things in brackets

My Character

Name: Muldir Hossins

Basic Appearance: A largely built man, no older than 35, with scraggly bronze hair, dark eyes and dresses in a mix of heavy furs and jagged steel plate.

Short Personality: A calm and stable individual, who's ideals and beliefs are grounded firmly in reality and rarely strays far from what he knows to be true.

Background: Lived as an Outcast for most of his youth and worked primarily training new recruits. Has shared little beyond that.

Strengths/Weakness: Reliable but also incredibly predictable. Plays things safe and opts for the most straight-forward plan of action.

Motive: Deployed by his chief to deal with the issue as a precaution rather than any genuine interest in the specifics of the rumours. He doesn't believe it's Lycanwings, just some upstart pillaging group using the name as intimidation.

Name: Emberlyn Eris. Though she goes by simply by Lynn

Age: 24

Basic Appearance: Emberlyn has always kept up a youthful and childish complexion. Her face cannot seem to age past her teenage years.

She sports a slim build and short stature, coming in at about 156 centimeters. She has always been the “cute and small” one and doesn’t particularly mind it. She speaks in a quiet and soft voice. It is very airy and light sounding, as if she isn’t entirely present at the moment of speaking. I don’t have any art for her yet because she is so new but I have found some drawings on google. They aren’t mine but embody the basic idea of what she looks like in my head quite well. I will probably be using them as refs when and if I do get around to drawing her. Though this one looks a bit young.

Personality: Naive, childish, easily distraction, distant, creative, clueless, head in the clouds, seriously... She is very easily distracted. Like, in a full conversation one moment, she will see a pretty blue butterfly and just instantly wander off after it giggling like it’s the best thing in the world. Extremely superstitious, pretty much still believes in fairies, compassionate, friendly, completely adorable, loves animals. Oddly, is capable of saying some weirdly gruesome things at the oddest of times Basically... if Phoebe from friends and Luna Lovegood were combined, you'd get Emberlyn.

Background: Emberlyn was constantly in a fragile state of health as a child. As a result, her mother kept her away from any villages. Even the slightest of colds could damage her already weakened immune system. She wasn’t allowed to go outside much or play as a child should. This really stunted her growth and kind of explains why she is living out her childhood after becoming an adult. She was forced to remain inside as a kid, her only source of entertainment the books her mother brought her after taking a trip to the villages. She would lap them up within days. She especially loved books about dragons. She was utterly fascinated by these captivating creatures. Her mother always got deflective whenever she brought the topic of dragons up so Emberlyn learnt not to ask. Until the day she found her some weird old armour boxed away in the cellar. She wondered at first what kind of metal it was made from, too light to be iron but too durable to be tin. She did not know what it was so she put it on. Coming home to find her daughter dancing around in her old armour, Lynn’s mother was livid. Lynn never understood what her mother used to be involved in that required such heavy-set armour, but she knew better than to ask. After calming down a bit, she took the armour away and went to sell it at the market.

Eventually, curiosity got the best of her and Emberlyn began wandering outside. She would roam the forest, searching for dragons and collecting their scales. She pretty much grew up this way, only ever seeing the mythic beasts from afar. Eventually, Emberlyn got caught out in a storm and got horribly sick by the time she got back home. She nearly died that night. Safe to say that put a stop to her outdoor adventures.

Years passed and to her mother’s relief, Lynn seemed to get better. She was finally allowed outside when she was 16 and has been helping her mother with domestic business ever since. Mainly picking herbs and crafting home-made remedies to help with any fits she has. She has become a quite skilled medic as a result. She will occasionally relapse though so her mother always kept her close. On the day the dragons disappeared, Lynn had finally mustered up the courage to leave home. Her mother was understandably distraught but knew that she daughter was pretty much a grown woman and it had to happen at some point. Before Emberlyn left, she gave her daughter a gift. A metallic diadem made out of that same weirdly metallic material and told Lynn to never forget where she came from. The diadem was also very sharp. Lynn cut her finger on the edges the first time she handled it. Lynn accepted the gift then headed off to figure out what happened to the dragons.

Strengths: Well-versed in herbology, intelligent. She has a natural green thumb and talent with animals.

Weaknesses: Very gullible and trusting. She will always see the best in people, even if it she probably shouldn’t. Poor physical skills. Due to living in relative isolation most of her life, she has poor people skills.

Motives: She just wants to try and make peace with the Lycanwings. She thinks that everyone can try and be friends, to rebuild the world around them. If they banded together instead of bickering over petty differences, they could address what really matters. The threat of outsiders invading the Archipelago. To be honest, she would probably just randomly show up and act as though she is supposed to be there so everyone just goes along with it.

Other: she is most definitely a vegetarian. She hates to see any creature suffering so she refuses to eat meat.

She is a fair Viking and she never uses glitches for her own personal gain. Some of my profile info will be listed below:.............

Characters:

Sasha

 Art was done by DuskDayBreak

She prefers to be called Lynx . She hates her real name. Lynx is bold and loud. She is like Luna Lovegood in the sense that she is rather... odd. Loud, shameless and spontaneous (not to mention immature). Lynx enjoys being flashy, showing off her skills. Once she sets her mind to something, she is naturally good at it. The problem is that she loses focus easy and doesn't like setting herself to standards. She craves adventure and can grow bored easily. Lynx love to talk... a lot. Often times, you cannot get her to shut up about this and that. Combined with her ADHD, it is extremely difficult to keep track of her conversations. She is particularly fast on her feet but has low stamina levels. She is strong and tall for her age. Lynx is stubborn and laid-back most of the time. She does not like to follow orders. Some of her skills include: being double jointed, the ability to be able to climb almost any surface, very good at mimicking animal sounds and is EXTREMELY good at sneaking around. However, there is a side to Lynx that she does not show very often. She is very lazy and selfish at times.

.Lyra

..Art was done by Chameishida

Lyra is more a kick-butt-now, ask-questions-later type of gal. She is brash and ruthless, quick to resort to physical violence to solve issues... and she is good at it. Really good. She is not a woman of many words, preferring to speak through her actions than words. Of course, if you get her mad, be prepared for the worst verbal... and physical lashing of your life. Lyra is hot-headed and slightly cocky about her fighting prowess, although it is justifiable. Lyra likes to keep to herself, preferring to quietly read a book or beat up some practice dummies than actual human interaction. As a result, she can come off as edgy and mysterious... and she likes it that way. She is a serious cynic and comes across as standoffish and brooding. Not that she really cares. Darker topics interest her and are sometimes the only way to get her make an actual conversation, beyond 1-worded sentences. Again, she likes to communicate through actions, not words. She has less academic smarts across find more street smarts. She is an amazing rider with a need for speed and showing up the competition.

Claudia

 Art was done by DuskDayBreak

One of Claudia s most defining traits is her cold and sarcastic attitude towards everything that breathes. Her sarcasm is different, though. It is much more subtle and soft-spoken. Typically, she poses her insults as a compliment, that after careful consideration, turn out to be insults. She delivers them coolly, directly and apathetically with a calm and collected demeanor, giving no indication in her voice or face that she is, in fact, being sarcastic. She is brutal when giving someone a verbal lashing, not because she raises her voice or her fists, simply because her insults are sophisticated, shrewd and complex. She is the type of girl who does not have to do much to stand apart from the crowd. However, Claudia is no way an extrovert, the reason why she puts herself in social situations is purely one of two reasons, the first one being is that she wants to go people watching. Where she sits in some corner and watches people, how they react and their social cues. She just observes them, untangles their motives and finds their interests. The second reason is that she wants to show up the competition, along with being stubborn, Claudia is a show-off. Just, not in the physical sense. Claudia, at her core, is an intellectual, preferring to beat her foes either brain as opposed to brawn. Of course, she is willing to get in a tussle, if absolutely necessary. She finds it beneath her. Claudia is highly observant. She pays extreme attention to detail, nothing escapes her keen eye and flawless memory. Due to her observant nature, she can glean a crazy amount of information about a person simply by looking at them. She is pretty much a walking encyclopedia, filled with tins of random and oddly relevant facts for any given situation. However, with her great intelligence, comes great social anxiety. Claudia buried this under layers of brashness but, this insecurity can be sorted out by the way she avoids social and emotional get-togethers entirely. It is not often that another emotion aside from apathy spreads across her facial features. She hates any kind of affectionate contact with another human being, be it a hug or a simple handshake. Due to her inability to express her emotions, Claudia finds herself at a lack of friends. She usually plays this off as her not wanting any friends but sometimes, when a dragon is your only friend, you can get lonely. The result, she makes a lot of enemies. Usually because of her showoff-ness and unforgiving attitude, and sarcasm.

Aeryn Night

 Art was done by Tosilohi

No one knows who Aeryn is. Not truly. They only know the persona she puts forth for them. This is why Aeryn is such a difficult character to write for and describe. She has multiple different personalities and will switch through them at the flip of a light. In a sense, it is quite similar to the multifaceted personality disorder, only, Aeryn recognizes her many personas. She chooses not to show anyone her true colors due to some insecurities. She switches personalities to shield herself from emotional damage as well as hiding away any insecurities. She starts off as a blank canvas every time she meets someone new. She observes them, analyzes them. She untangles their motives, figures out their personality, what they like, what they don’t like, then she tailors herself to become the person they would like (or hate, depending on how she wants to be perceived) the most. Her distressed youth explains why she feels she needs to conform, as well as shine, in every situation. With Aeryn, you never know if her reactions are genuine or just part of her charade. Her real personality is unpleasant to say the best. She is highly judgemental. She looks down on those around her. She is very apathetic towards others and everything she does has some ulterior motive. She is a queen at manipulation. Nearly everyone word that she utters is sugar coated in some way. She has the world wrapped around her fingers. Aeryn is very skilled when it comes to reading both people and animals. This is because, in her youth, she would sit in some corner and watch. Observe how people react, body language and their social cues. She views it as going to a zoo to watch funny animals. Yes, that is how lowly she thinks of everyone else. Not that you could tell.

Gail Cirek

 Art was done by Katarile

Gail is adorable. She is short, cute and very softspoken. A lot of people think she is innocent, will try to protect her. Gail does not like attracting much attention as people have a tendency to stare. She is very insecure about her face (since it is severely deformed on the left side) and does her best to conceal it. She gets very annoyed if someone asks about it. However, with this silence comes the ability to listen. She observes the world around her and is able to spot even the tiniest of details. This silent brilliance has made her a stellar judge of character. She reads body language very well and has a certain flare of stubbornness about her. Still, she is very dark. Generally, when she speaks, most people cannot hear what she says, which is probably a good thing because what she does say is usually pretty dark or gory. She often says random and slightly disturbing things and speaks extremely softly anyone can barely hear her. Gail seems to be pretty timid but is generally ruthless. She is a bit of a pyromaniac.

Thanks for saving me a spot, here's my character.

Name:

(The Great) Loosehelm Slugbucket, discoverer of many dragons and winner of many battles, great hero and charming traveller, his friends may call him Loosehelm (Though he has no friends at the moment)

basic appearance:

Coppery red long hair that is tied to a loose ponytail behind his back, beard that is kinda forked and bound together by two leather strings, an asymmetrical helmet with one short, crooked horn that resembles the Armorwing he once had, a long face with cold silver eyes and kind of a malicious grin. You can't tell if he is evil or just confident, but he definitely looks a bit sketchy. Though his face looks old and experienced, his hair is free from any grey strands and he stands tall and strong like any young warrior. 30-50, probably. REALLY obsessed with his looks and half of his drawings are self portraits.

Here's a picture:

Short personality:

Well, there is the persona he puts on when he thinks he's being admired and enjoys the situation he's in, and his real behaviours when something goes wrong or he gets criticised. He's a grumpy, slightly confused, bitter old man who craves attention and thinks he's the center of the world. Like literally, it's his big problem. Everything that happens is somehow about him, either to hurt or help HIM in particular. Also, he's a bad loser and draws his sword way too quickly in the heat of a conflict.

Background:

Was a dragon hunter until he heard of some lad that tamed dragons, an idea that's "almost good enough to be one of mine!" and promptly got himself an Armorwing. How he managed that and why Rustclaws didn't eat him is a complete mystery. Since then, he thinks he has some magic bond to all dragons and started travelling around with his pragmatic nephew who ended up saving his life many times, to discover everything about dragons.

When he came back from his journey, he wrote a book about all the new species he discovered, but he couldn't prove half of the things he wrote about true. Then, when the dragons disappeared, his nephew/assistant disappeared shortly after them. Loosehelm began searching for someone who "stole all the dragons" to "try and defeat him by seperating him from the creatures that support him so much" and the longer he searched for the villain who did this to him, the crazier his conspiracy got and over time he became a grumpy, moody, self-absorbed old man. The moment he learned about the Lycanwings, he was sure THEY took the dragons and his nephew away, and started a hunt destined to fail from the very beginning.

Strenghths/Weaknesses:

For someone who talks so much about what a great hero he is, you'd expect him to exaggerate a little. In most things, he does, but his combat skills are through the roof. Like, way too good for someone who starts a fight way too fast.

He IS good with words, and a pretty good actor.

Some may call it just a lack of common sense and logic, probably sanity too, others call it the bravest man they ever saw.

Good at making it LOOK like he won even when he didn't.

Talks down on everyone, and starts many conflicts that way.

Generally, starts many conflicts.

He is proud of never changing his opinion, it's a thing of pride for him.

His pride is A BIG PROBLEM.

Lives in his little bubble where he's a hero and everything is about him, also, the universe hates him but it's just testing him because of the many things he's destined to do.

Motive:

Hunt down the Lycanwings, bring back the dragons and enjoy the praise and glory. Also, he misses Rustclaws and Arn, his nephew, more than he shows and wants them back. Badly

Name: Mikel the Might

Basic Appearance: A Tall Muscular boy(19). Typical short Blond hair blue eyes character. Look like if Captain amarica in his teen is already buff. Standard viking chief clothing with brown fur cape, lean heavy on fur, fabric and light armor rather than heavy armor. Like to strip to bare chest in battle.

Short Personality: Honest, Hard working, good nature

Background: He comes from the small village. If there is any ranking this village would be very low not because it's bad but because of how small mudane and unnoticable it is. The former chief have no heir so everyone is fighting to be the new one, including Mikel who seek to bring changes to this village. But he was only a runt that got look down similary to hiccup back then but through his hard work and self improvement he managed to become a beloved new chief at the ripe age of 15. Since then the village has gain ranks a bit. It's still small, no big expansion but way better and noticable than it once was. Mikel also willing to help out other village in the Archipelago in need and more willing to help fix the grand scale problem.

Strengths/Weakness: Brute strength, hand to hand combat (and some sword fighting),determination, level headed. Not a total dumbbutt but intelligence is not his strongest trait either, despite not being violence he tend to solve problem with brute over brain quite a bit. I can't confidently say that he is naive but his idealism do have a bit of flaw when use in some situation sometime. (also I don't want to say kindness is a weakness butttttt he is kinda too kind for his own good, he can't not help people and honestly that's bothe strenght and weakness in its own way)

Motive: A somewhat of "It's the chief responsibility to fix the problem and protect his people and other people as well" and "It's the right thing to do" (same thing)

HUNTING A LEGEND

It's a clear midsummer evening in the Berserker village, and the team is regrouping at a dockside tavern after a rather uneventful mission around the town. They're doing quite well, all things considered and especially compared to other tribes, but that hasn't made it any more helpful in your investigation. Of the few people who have heard of the Lycanwings, none of them had any new information, and some even mocked your questions, thinking it to be some sort of joke.

A barmaid sets down a round of drinks at the table, where Muldir is too engrossed in a map to even notice the delivery. He's been plotting out sightings and attacks on it, trying to find a pattern or some point of origin, but has found nothing so far.

What is everyone else doing at the tavern right now?

Emberlynn Eris

((I am assuming this means we can start? :D))

"What is it like-" Emberlyn murmured as she fell onto her forearms in scrutiny. Her nose wrinkled in concentration as she rolled onto her stomach, her legs bent up and resting over her head as she swung them down and up. “-hopping around like that, don’t you get tired?”

‘Rrribit’ The toad’s tongue flicked out, moistening its eyeball before darting back into its mouth.

Lynn’s mouth dropped in utter fascination by it. She stuck her own tongue out, trying desperately to copy its movements to no avail. She could touch her nose, though. Lynn giggled at this discovery.

“I can lick my nose!” She exclaimed to the toad eagerly.

The toad did not seem impressed... or amused. Instead, it just regarded her with a bored expression then launched itself off the edge of the docks, landing in the water with a loud ‘PLOP’.

Lynn smiled and waved. “Bye! Bye!”

She received some weird looks from the patrons of the tavern as they passed her by on the way inside.

A full-grown woman, sprawled over on her stomach... on the ground of the docks... talking to a toad.

While the rest of her group had pressed their way inside the tavern, Lynn opted to remain outside by the docks. It was a beautiful evening. It was hot, sure. But every day is beautiful when your Lynn. She could not fathom why everyone else would have preferred to sit inside where it is all stuffy and drink foul-tasting mead made from spoiled honey. The poor bees they stole it from! Always working so hard, only to have greedy humans come along and smash everything up.

So, Lynn decided to stay outdoors and enjoy the day. Then she spotted a toad, croaking its song by one of the wooden dock spires and what transpired afterwards was history.

Lynn propped herself up onto her elbows, her hair falling in a sheen over her shoulders as she rolled into a spitting position, cross-legged by the docks. Dirty fell from her golden hair and covered her pale face. She wiped it off with the sleeve of her dress as Lynn swung her legs over the sides of the dock. Her shoes lay discarded by her leg, the tips of her toes tickling the water’s cool surface. Lynn giggled in amusement, the toad from earlier completely forgotten as she gazed down at the water. The friction that occurred when her toes met the water cause it’s surface to feel almost sticky. It was quite the odd feeling so Lynn decided to plunge her entire foot into the water.

The sea was rather warm as it lapped against her skin, the smell of salt in the air. Flicking her feet back up, Lynn arched her back so the droplets of water fell across her face. Despite an unsuccessful day, Lynn was in a rather good mood. But then again, she was always in a good mood.

Mikel

Mikel remained high-spirited through out the scout..., and after. Without taking his usual unwavering confiident into account, his investigation, while as lacking as the others, is mostly met with positive responses. It has little to do with him being a chief since his village is still mostly lowkey so to all the others he just some young mam . it has mostly due to the combination of his charm and the way his wordings are, which also have less to do with his wits and more to do with the fact that he seens these Lycanwing problem as an anomaly so when when approached they usually just being asked about the unspecific unusal attacks. He takes any response, though not new as a plus.

He kinda got distracted through out though, usually stop to comment and complimenting the little things here and there about how Berserker run itself. He knows he's not here to sightseeing, that would be unresponsible. The other chief refused to step in and help becasue they have their own tribes to protect after all and that is understandable but Mikel couldn't just sit around AND he got nine trusty good people to run the village while he's gone, they are his jogging buddies.

When they regrouped and head to the tarvern. Mikel's chatty about his finding, Lycanwing related or not filled the air. He is genuinely happy to be exploring Berserkian and he wanted to keep the spirit of the others as high as his as well. but after they got into the tarvern, (the rest of them that is since Lyn want to remain outside, Mikel respected her decision). Mikel excused himself

"I will be talking to the guy over there, usually this is best place the scope out something juicy" Mikel declared with a smile before making a bee line to what appears to be the one running the place and order some meads then begin a small talk about the tarvern itself

The barkeep is a middle-aged woman with black hair streaked with a few silvery strands, and her fair share of battle scars, one very cool bite wound on her left forearm to note. She looks up from wiping down the counter and quickly looks Mikel over with dark brown eyes and a slight smirk. "What's cookin, good lookin'?" she asks. "How can I help ya?"

Lynn was quick to grow bored. Now that her toad friend had left, she had no one to talk to. Since she grew up in relative isolation, Lynn discovered that she liked talking to people.

Lynn pulled her hands up and pressed her palms against the wooden dock. She pressed up and swung her legs back from the edges of the dock and rolled onto her knees. Standing up, she slipped her shoes back on and skipped on into the tavern. She was going to show everyone that she could lick her nose!

Instantly the smell of fermentation hit her, combined with the musky odor of the poor-hygiene of a large majority Vikings. Lynn's delicate little nose wrinkled slightly as her face contorted into a petulant expression.

Her cerulean gaze scanned the tavern, searching for her friends in the midst of strangers. Well, to Lynn strangers were just friends she hadn't met yet.

Her eyes first landed on the heavy build of Muldir. His dark eyes seemed to be focused on the parchment that lay before him. Lynn was about to go over and say hi but then stopped herself. She had never been good with people but she had learnt a few things... Like to not interrupt them while they were working. Her mother had taught her that.

So, her eyes continued to drift until they spotted Mikel's blonde head. Mikel seemed nice. Lynn had already decided that she was going to like him. Well, she liked everybody. But that wasn't the point.

Despite her earlier conviction to find her friends, Lynn found that her feet were carrying her elsewhere so she let them. Lynn had an odd way of walking around on her toes, her heels never once touching the ground. The result was ethereal, floating-like movements while she walked- or more accurately drifted towards the bartop.

Loosehelm

Loosegelm Slugbucket, the great, was sitting in a tavern somewhere far away from home, and was not at all satisfied with his drink. If the circumstances had been normal, he would've ordered something else. But this was different, he had to keep his face down.

The brown hood of his coat covered most of his face, but of course it didn't cover everything and his glorious beard was still very visible.

He had to be fast, sooner or later he would be recognised as the great hero he was, and crowded by fanatic fans, which would lead to his mortal enemies, the Lycanwings, to spot his position.

It would be best to get a ship, so he could sail to the place they came from (he wasn't sure where, but his brilliant mind would find out soon enough) and in a legendary battle, he would free all dragons and his useless nephew.

That was the plan, at least.

Bad thing was, he had no idea where to buy a ship on this island, and much more, where he should get a decent crew. In the old days, he would've flown there, but...

He began looking around, trying to find people who looked like sailors to him. With a quick movement, he stood up and began inspecting the tavern. He took his time, sneaking around random people until they snapped at him, while every now and then gulping down a bit of his drink that wasn't too bad after all.

His eyes darted back and forth, with a wild spark in them.

He didn't spot any sailors. But at least he spotted no Lycanwings, either.

"Personally? I've run it for just over a year now, but I've been serving far longer than that. The family business and all that, inherited it from my pop. Brainrot claims the best of us and the worst of us, and he was one of the worst. What about you, what's your story?"

--

Loosehelm, in your scan of the patrons here, you actually see a newcomer walk in the door, aside from Lynn. Clearly a local guard with the Berserker Skrill engraved across his breastplate and sporting a beard almost as magnificent as yours, you can also see his anxious expression and a roll of parchment in his hands.

Near a young girl, that seemed to not look at him at all, Loosehelm spotted just what he was searching for.

A man, obviously berserkian, with a... passable beard, who definitely was a local. This guy surely knew how he could get a boat around here! Qiuetly, he praised himself for his sharp vision and quick wits.

Loosehelm slowly tried to get near the man, still trying to cover up his face. The guy seemed to be holding some kind of message and...

Well, Loosehelm couldn't pin it down butsuddenly something was suspicious. Well, he could keep an eye on that. He was still hoping to get his boat, and if this guy really had evil intentions he would be easy to overpower.

Only half a minute later, he was standing directly behind the newcomer, and noticed he had not thought about how to introduce himself.

So, he improvised, an ability every great explorer should have.

And so, he just slammed his hand on the man's shoulder and exclaimed: "You look like you have some stories to tell, friend. Let me hear them over a drink!

This guard does NOT welcome your embrace and gives you a quite literal cold shoulder. "Is you one of them folks searchin for Lycanwings?" he asks, getting straight to the point.

((also I should point out that the team does have a ship, but granted it is just some fishing boat Muldir bought on the cheap early on. it's nothing fancy but it gets you from point a to point b))

It used to be more difficult but we managed get by. folks need other folks, we help each other out until we are able to stand on out own feet then we strived to be better for the others ," Mikel talked about his village with fond pride, then decided to cut back to the point"which I why I am here actually. heard some trouble are stirin' and decide to come investigate. Perhaps you could be some help. Surely a place where people come together like this would give you a some interesting stories from all around.'

She scoffs; "There's always trouble brewin'. In this room alone you've probably got half a dozen mortal enemies just waiting to see who draws blade first. Around town, Dagur and Mala are fightin tooth and nail to keep the peace between their people, or what's left of em, along with keeping Berk above water without dragging this whole tribe down with them. Who knows what more is happening behind closed doors"

Leaning in a bit closer and talking softer, she continues. "And far off? Talk of Lycanwings, a dragon cryptid, years after the rest of them vanished. These things are tearing whole trading towns apart on their own; half of people don't believe it and don't care to do anything about it, while the other half are too scared to do more than cut their losses and run. Pick your poison"

Looshelm scoffed a bit, he didn't like the harsh tone of the man.

"Even if I was, why would that interest you? I was just trying to start a conversation."

At this point, he could as well stop wearing his hood. He couldn't see properly with that thing on. And probably, that guy would be nicer if he recognised how famous he was.

"So, let's try again. What's your name, for example?"

He shot a little glance at the message the other one was carrying, but quickly focused on his face again.

As Lynn strolled aimlessly around the bar something caught her eye. A flash of red in the corner of the room. The rest of her head followed the distraction and below and behold, her gaze landed on a cloaked figure. She knew instantly that it was Loosehelm. No one else she met had that red and that magnificent of a beard!

Lynn giggled softly under her breath. Loosehelm was a funny man. He said that he was famous and Lynn genuinely believed him. He always makes her laugh. She also noted that he was talking to a potential friend.

Another bearded man, dressed all fancy-like with the Beserker Skrill decorating the armour along his chest. Tilting her head, Lynn drifted over, catching snippets of their conversation.

"...searching for the LycanWings?" The potential friend was saying, shrinking away from Loosehelm's embrace.

"Even if I was, why would that interest you? I was just trying to start a conversation." Loosehelm boisterously declared.

Emberlyn was admittedly confused. If they weren't searching for the LycanWings all morning, then what were they doing? Even she remembered the task of their quest. Maybe Loosehelm forgot. She should go remind him. And show him that she can lick her nose!

Lynn skipped the rest of the way over, barging into the conversation sometime after "of extreme urgency".

"Hi!" Lynn beamed up at the guard with a close-eyed expression. "Loosehelm is being silly. We are looking for the LycanWings. I think.... I mean, if we were hunting fairies all morning I am sure I'd know." Lynn murmured without the slightest trace of sarcasm, despite the words sounding a tad bit sarcastic. Lynn was physically incapable of sarcasm. She never grasped the concept. Why say words you don't mean and actually mean the opposite when you can just say words you do mean and avoid the convolution and confusion.

The guard hands Lynn the paper and nods assuringly. "Chief recieved this a few minutes ago; raven nearly tore his eye out on the way in. We've no ships ready or the time to prepare them, so it looks like you lot got what you were looking for"

It's an SOS letter, unsigned and written in a hasty scrawl that's barely readable.

‘Bronze winged warrior in yellow silks, black armour, razing town and ships. Fleeing to northwest shore of Dryad Reef, send ships for survivors, let winds favour any who can help’

Dryad Reef is a more of a rocky outcrop than an island with a large harbour built on top of it, half a days sail east from here, an hour on wings. Serving as a distribution hub for larger ships from the main island to quickly change course to other villages, its destruction would significantly slow down a large bulk of the aid that Berserkers provide to other tribes.

Loosehelm forgot his other sorrows as the messenger mentioned the sighting of the Lycanwing.

He crossed his arms in front of his chest.

"Why didn't you say that earlier! A Lycanwing!", he exclaimed, and the next second he had his hand on the handle of his sword.

"So, anything else? Did someone see where that filth came from?"

The old man was grumpy, but that was nothing new. He hadn't slept in a while and didn't have breakfast in... three weeks?
Finally, he would be able to let out his anger and add another one to the list of his heroic adventures.

He wasn't a Lycanwing slayer, not yet. Until now, he had been merciful with those poor worms, but they never got the hint, and never brought the dragons back. So, he would bring them back himself.

"Oh, yeah. About a week ago now I had a trio of sailors from Felguard, few days south of here, belonged to a bandit clan actually; wiped off the map. Said it to be brilliant silver, a mix between a Skrill and an eagle in looks and abilities with lightning breath and incredible speed. And they're no animals either; this thing was methodical. Took out important stuff first, walkways, storehouses, the likes" she tells Mikel.

Looking past him at the small commotion caused by Loosehelm and co, she calls out "Oi! If you lot are starting something, take it outside!" while reaching behind the bar for presumably a weapon.

Loosehelm, disturbed in his heroic fantasies, turned around to yell something back to whoever dared talk to him like that.

"Oh I will take it outside! Right now!"

He meant, of course, hunting down the Lycanwing. And he had to be fast before that sneaky lizard got away...

Now he turned, again, so he was facing the berserker who brought the message.
"Do you know where exactly that snake-faced dragonsnatcher went and how I can get there as fast as possible?", he barked.

Until now, he had restrained himself to pull his sword in such a crowded area (a little mistake that he had commited a bit too often, at least in the eyes of his nephew. But that brat had no idea) but the anticipation of battle made it really difficult for him.

"Ooh." Lynn gasped in excitement when the potential friend handed her a piece of paper. "This looks important."

"Chief received this a few minutes ago; raven nearly tore his eye out on the way in. We've no ships ready or the time to prepare them, so it looks like you lot got what you were looking for." The man informed her.

Lynn unwrapped the paper, glancing at the letter within. Her mother never taught her to read but after many lonely nights at her cottage, Lynn had taught herself. She grew quite exceptional at the skill despite so many other less fortunate souls who were never gifted with the ability.

Her smile slowly dipped into a frown as she read the note. Lynn could not possibly fathom why anyone would wish to hurt another living creature willingly. This "winged warrior" as it was written, must have been scared or hurt... Maybe he just needs a friend.

Lynn would be happy to be his friend!

That was when her easily distracted mind latched onto another random detail. The warrior was draped in yellow silks. "Silks? Those are super expensive and are made from the homes of cute little worms after they are boiled alive. Their dry husks of corpses are then cast aside before they ever even had a chance to reach their full potential as moths." She frowned. "But silk isn't exactly the ideal fabric for combat. Seems like a waste of tiny lives to wear something so expensive into a battle zone."

"Oi! If you lot are starting something, take it outside!" The shrill cry of the bar maid tore Lynn from her thoughts.

"Do you know where exactly that snake-faced dragon snatcher went and how I can get there as fast as possible?" Loosehelm demanded the poor man.

"Hey, don't be mean." Lynn gently chastised Loosehelm. "And can't you read, silly? Says that he was last seen fleeing to northwest shore of Dryad Reef... In silk." Even Lynn did not know why her mind latched on to that particular detail. It just seemed odd to her. She found the entire "winged" thing completely normal but silks? That was pushing it. She blinked a few times then smiled politely up at their new friend. Yes. He was a friend now.

"We will gladly head to help these poor people out... Uh, thank you mysterious Beserker Armour Friend." She smiled once again.

The room goes silent as

The room goes silent as Loosehelm raises his voice. It's really only by Lynns' presence that he isn't immediately run through by about twenty assorted swords, axes, and spears from the local patrons; but they are drawn, all eyes on him. The guard doesn't acknowlede Loosehelms outburst, but instead looks to Lynn and says "You're welcome, young lady, and best of luck to you."

Muldir, also alerted to the change in atmosphere, reads the room and quickly shoves his maps and clues into a bag before motioning Mikel over and standing behind Lynn. Reading over her shoulder, he takes a sharp breath and places a calming hand on Loosehelms shoulder. "Save your fire, chief" he mutters. "We have work to do"

Lynn was completely oblivious to the tense environment of the tavern as a result of Loosehelm’s boisterousness. A part of her wondered why everyone was drawing their weapons but in her lifetime, she discovered that humans would draw weapons for the silliest of things.

“You're welcome, young lady, and best of luck to you." Her new friend addressed her.

Lynn beamed pleasantly at him. “Bye-bye!”

The sudden sensation of breath prickling cause Lynn to jump and whirl around. Her cerulean gaze fell on Muldir. Her startlement long forgotten, she offered him a cheerful wave while he murmured something to Loosehelm.

"Is that the lead I see, great job guys!" The familiar voice pulled Lynn’s attention away from Muldir.

“Mikel!” She exclaimed in her mirth. Mikel was nice. “Look, I can lick my nose.” She declared as she withdrew her tongue from her mouth, playfully touching it to the tip of her nose. “Isspft da su kul?” She mumbled with her tongue still against her nose.

Back on the ship, fully stocked and rested, the crew heads out for Dryads Reef. With any luck, you'll be there by sunrise, at most a few hours after.

The ship you have is nothing special; an old fishing boat retrofitted with the bare essentials of a vessel that might see battle, its single medium-sized sail is blank and frayed at the edges. The hull is solid and secure, but nothing you'd put much faith in if it got into a serious fight.

Seeing as they had the downtime, Muldir gathers everyone on the deck for a debriefing.

"So this'll be the second attack in this region, bringing it up on par with other territories" he starts. "Now, regarding this Lycanwing, I've heard about them once before, near old Berk- took out a storehouse and nearly starved the neighbouring mining town. While they did say it had wings like this does," and he holds the note up, "no one said anything about it actually flying, so this could easily be an elaborate costume to try and intimidate people. Fire, however, does seem to be at its disposal, so if it's still around when we get there, keep your distance. That includes you, Slugbucket"

Loosehelms blood was still pumping through his veins, after all he'd be able to take down one of his sworn enemies!

But he had to be patient, since without his fire-breathing beast he had to sail there with his ship.

The other people on the ship, although useful, seemed to only follow him around for protection. Whatever. At least that meant they were smart.

But sadly, they weren't really entertaining, and the one that tried to give him instructions (ha!) was no exception. Muldir, was his name.

The experienced hero didn't listen, (battling ONE of them couldn't be that difficult, especially since it was Loosehelm Slugbucket they were talking about) and began to search for something  that he had kept in one of his pockets, but seemed to be gone.

Sometimes, he felt bad. The Lycanwings were after him, and the others had no idea. He'd risk their lives, too, if he travelled with them.

Suddenly, he heard his name from somewhere.

"...keep your distance. That includes you, Slugbucket."

With a frown, he looked in Muldirs face.

"I know what I'm doing! I've fought so many dragons in my life, if I said it out loud, you wouldn't believe me. Big ones, small ones, I'd say every species of dragon there is. A Lycanwing can't be that different."

While saying that, he secretly hoped for someone to ask him about further details of his adventures. He always loved to tell those stories, almost as much as experiencing them.

Muldir tightens his jaw. "They might not be dragons, though. I'm betting it's a rampant group of Wingmaidens; they have the dragon knowledge, materials, training and most of all fury to pull something like this off. Ever gotten into a fist-fight with one of them? They're stronger than they look."

"Wingmaidens! Ridiculous! I tell you, they are dragons, just smarter and nastier."

Loosehelm shook his head in disagreement.

"It all makes sense! They got rid of the bigger, yet less intelligent dragons, so they could rule a bigger territory. When I was young..."

He took off his helmet that didn't sit right on his head, and turned it a bit so it looked better.

"When I was young they weren't there, but we had stories. Very contradictory stories."

Mikel unintentionally ignored Lossehelm's rambling in favour of asnwering to Muldir after having poder over it. Lynn perched precariously on the bow of the ship. She had her legs curled up underneath her, on knee dangling over the edge. The wind swept back her hair from her shoulders, the metal woven into her hair clicking together like windchimes. She turned her face to the sea, the salty spray stinging her eyes as she gazed out across the horizon, stretching to the point where the sea swallowed the the sky. Directly below her, secure on the wooden decking of the ship lay her bag which she had packed her vitals. Food, herbs, water... And her lyre.

She held the smaller instrument in her arms, clutching it close to her heart. Nimbly her fingers ran along the coords, plucking out a calming but light hearted melody. It wasn't one that belonged to any song in particular, rather Lynn made it up as she went.

She spent decades of her life sequestered away in a cottage, isolated in a lonely wood. Because her mother wouldn't let her leave the house, she found that she had a lot of free time on her hands. Time she spent picking up many hobbies. She had become a talented musician, having mastered the lyre, pan flute, rebec and her vocals. She also was a decent cook, having spent a majority of her life cooking for herself. She had also become quite the capable artist, she especially loved the rare times her mother would bring her paints. She never quite mastered crocheting as her mother had urged her to. It resulted in too many pricked fingers for Lynn's taste.

The sound of her companion's voices jostled her back into reality. Still, Lynn did not turn her gaze away from the curvature of the horizon.

"I once met a sailor who said to me the Earth was flat." Lynn murmured to no one particular. "What a silly man he was. Probably fell off the edge of his flat Earth..." And with that mildly disturbing though, Lynn went back to strumming her lyre, producing an enchanting melody; one

that she hummed along to, like a siren's song drifting over the sea.

"It's just a precaution" Muldir explains. "I'm as much of a fighter of either of you, but it doesn't hurt to watch your enemy before engaging. Especially one as unknown as this. If it is a dragon, then we'll need everyone to take it down. If it's just some particularly ambitious bandits, then I'd like to talk to them before we go dealing out any sentences"

Momentarily distracted by Lynn's music, he furrows his brow in thought, then snaps his finger as he remembers something. "Mikel, back at Berserkers', did you get anything from the lady at the bar?"

Lynn continued to gently strum at the lyre, her calloused fingertips gliding over the instrument with a delicate grace. She was only partially listening to the conversation going on behind her, but she did hear mention of a Skrill-related entity with lightning and speed powers terrorizing some village. That sounded horrifying. She wondered how many children, mothers and siblings were wasting away from starvation when their storehouses were destroyed. She wondered how many families were cast onto the streets as a result of their homes being mercilessly consumed by the fire generated from lightning strikes. How many blackened corpses mutilated beyond recognition by these fires turned up. Guess she would find out soon enough.

"I want you and Lynn to stick with any survivors and help them out with whatever you can." Muldir's voice pulled her from her thoughts.

Lynn briefly paused in her playing. She swung her legs over the side of the ship and stood up, drifting over towards the rest of her group.

"People will be afraid and there will probably be injured; once the worst has been seen to we'll also need as much information as we can get on this thing. Loosehelm, you and I can check out the town while they sort out the survivors. Thoughts?" Muldir asked by the time Lynn had gotten over.

Lynn liked the idea of helping people. She had packed some aloe vera which would be very useful for any burn victims she may come across. She wanted to help them all but she knew that she couldn't, which made her rather sad. Still, she was going to try her best. Lynn's mind only engaged itself after Muldir informed them that they would arrive by Dawn.

"Just promise me something." Lynn spoke up softly. "If you do find this LycanWing don't hurt him or her. Trap them in water, skrills can't use their powers I water. I read that. Maybe it is the same for them. That way we can talk to them. Maybe they have a reason for doing this, o-or maybe we can get them to stop hurting people."

At Sea

Muldirs' expression darkens slightly. "I can't make you any promises, Lynn, but I'll try. For this Lycanwing, capture is paramount over k.illing. Whenever, or if ever, we come across the Skrill one, that will depend on how this one goes."

Without a below-deck on this ship, sleeping quarters are really just some windbreaks nailed to the railing over a few padded bed rolls (Muldir made sure to get Lynn a cloth and cotton one when she joined)- it's nothing luxurious, but better than nothing. The night is calm, the sea is quiet, and no other ships break the dark of the waters.

You arrive to Dryads Reef with first light, right on time, and coming from the northwest as the letter advised, you can't quite make out how bad things are yet. There's a thick smog in the air, reducing visibility to about ten metres, with the actual town itself obscured behind the large cliff face of the cove you're sailing into.

And waiting in this cove are about two dozen Vikings of just about every clan and tribe around, huddled over small fires and laid out on cloaks over a cold gravel beach. As soon as they see the ship, there's a chorus of cheers and several move to help up those few lying down.

Loosehelm

Loosehelm had always enjoyed the feeling of sleeping under the night sky, and while he was staring up at the stars, a few new songs about his adventures came to his mind. Sadly, he couldn't play any instruments. (Who needs that when you can have a sword?) But he knew someone who did. Another reason to find his nephew as soon as possible.

Surely, that boy was somewhere on an island, lost and scared or even captured by those Lycanwings.

But very soon he, Loosehelm Slugbucket the Great, no, the Greatest, would get rid of this problem so they could go and explore the world and forget this ever happened.

When they arrived at the beach, a feeling of nostalgia swept over him as he heard the people cheer for and praise their much needed hero.

"Just like twenty years ago.", he muttered to himself, before hiding a little smile. Now THIS was what he was here for. The protection of the helpless citizens, the thrill of battle, and the endless glory that was practically unavoidable whenever he picked up a sword.

He made sure his helmet was nice and shiny, before turning to the others. The old man wanted to see what they did next before he went out and slayed the beast that terrorised those poor people.

Muldir wanted to come along too, right?

Well, he had to be fast before that Lycanwing got away, so he couldn't wait that long. Hopefully the others hurried up a little.

Lynn enjoyed sleeping under the stars, she rarely got the chance to do it at the cottage so she wasn't very good at it.

She had laid awake in the makeshift cot Muldir had generously provided for her the entire night. Her brain would just never shut off. As she lay there, awake a worrying, she gazed upwards at the stars. She felt bad for these lycan wings, whoever they are. She couldn't imagine what it must have been like to hide such a large part of your self-identity to the public eye. To be unable to reveal to anyone who you are or ever feel comfortable being 100% unadulteratedly yourself. If the lycan wings did reveal themselves even peacefully to the public, they would be quickly persecuted, ostracised or even killed simply because humans did not understand them; what humans did not understand, they feared; what humans feared, they killed.

She also worried about the people on the island. The people who had lost their homes and livelihoods to creatures who very nature they were unable to comprehend. The farmer's family may starve without his crop. They must be so scared and unsure of their future. It hung precariously in the balance, reliant upon their ship.

As Dawn rolled around, Lynn as removed her diadem from her head. The sharp metal shimmering under the dawning sky, reflecting colours of soft orange, pink and teal as she ran a hand down its smooth surface. It was quite the mystery material. It never rusted despite being made from metal, and it was sharper than a sword. Wincing, Lynn drew her fingers back from the edges of it, blooding welling up on the pad of her thumb. She placed it in her mouth, licking the blood off before readjusting the diadem back into her hair. Probably best not to mess with it....

A chorus of cheers roused Lynn from her thoughts. Leaning on her elbows, she pushed up to see the island which they were headed for looming over the horizon. The joyous cries of people filled the air, overpowering even the roar of the sea.

Lynn's heart skipped a beat at the sound of all the voices unified as one. Each one telling their own unique story, the human clans able to cast aside their differences and help each other in a moment of tragedy. Sure, humans were greedy and selfish but it was moments like these that renewed Lynn's faith in humanity. A smile tugged at her lips as she based over her land. She couldn't wait to help them.

Muldir looks slightly concerned as he steers the ship onto the shore, but chooses not to voice those concerns. As the hull scrapes against the gravel bed, one woman steps foward from the rest of the crowd to greet you. She looks relatively young, with short brown hair and what looks to be the thick jacket of a Rider along with some dragonscale armour, white and blue in colour. A sizeable gash cuts across her shoulder, roughly bandaged, but it doesn't seem to bother her much.

"Couldn't of had better timing, friends! To who do we owe the pleasure?" she asks cheerfully.

"Investigators of the Lycanwings. Name's Muldir" he introduces himself, allowing the others to introduce themselves as they please.

"Joel Hackleberry, director of the port. Former director now, I guess. Don't suppose it's not chance that you 'Lycanwing investigators' rolled up here?"

Mikel

when their destination became visible in the horizon and became visible enough to see the damage. Mikel's usual light expression shifted into the grimmer one

"This looks bad huh?" He mumbled to no one in particular but he know what to do and once they arrived that grimmer expression quickly shift back into the confident one, he need to be their confident and hope to these people in needs! One of them step forward to greet the group, Muldir talked to them.

"No we got the message actually, we are here to help" Mikel answered the lady for Muldir
