Jessa had fun traveling with Naboris, Grumf and the animals. Trixie, Maxilar and Floofy had become fast friends and enjoyed chasing each other around the halls inside Naboris herself. Thankfully, the Divine Beast didn't mind. Jessa made sure he knew the basic language greetings: Sargso meaning Thank You, Sav'otta - meaning Good Morning, Vure, meaning bird and a few other key words.
"Now remember, Goron may be allowed in the village no matter the gender, but that's only because we can't mate with them. Men aren't allowed in the village no matter what, not even if a Gerudo Vai is married. Riju is our current leader and Buliara is her bodyguard. She's stern and scary looking, but when she's playing with animals like Trixie, she's actually pretty chill." Jessa advised, smiling at Grumf as they stopped about a mile's hike from the village, about halfway between the village and the Kara Kara bazzar, where she'd take her normal pit stop. Maxilar was currently resting in her backpack. She'd dump him in his pile of dirt once they got settled. Trixie yipped happily, eager to be home again.
Jessa nodded as she got off Naboris, Trixie on her heels as Floofy flew down to meet them while Trixie ran over to a nearby cactus to do her business. There weren't any voltfruit on this cactus, but that didn't matter at the moment.
[You are both quite welcome. I'll be out near the Gerudo Ruins if you need anything.] Naboris told the two passengers, giving an audible "You're welcome" rumble for Grumf's sake as Trixie came back.
"Naboris says "You're welcome" and she'll be over at the Gerudo Ruins if we need her. And I think we can take Floofy's emergency diaper off now. I'm sure he'd apperciate it." Jessa relayed, then remembered what Grumf commented on.
"Yes, male animals are allowed. We need male Sand Seals to breed them after all. My big guy's one of the biggest. His name's Nabu - it means "Knowledge" in our language. He's a real sweetheart. He'll probably be the most willing to take on a rookie rider. He's very smart and very patient with students in Sand Seal riding classes. I let Essa use him as a lesson Seal since I get too busy to ride him often. You catch on fast." She confirmed as they approached the gates to the town.
"Now remember: Vure is bird, Sav'aaq is "Good Day" and can be used all day as a formal or informal greeting. Vai is "woman" and Voe" is "man". You need to make sure you emphasize the double a sound in Sav'aaq and the Q as if you're trying to hock a loogie. At least that's how I learned it from Mom when I was a kid." The young woman reminded the Goron as they approached the gate. "Watch and learn." She hissed, raising a hand to wave.
"Sav'aaq ladies!" She greeted, Trixie bounding ahead to jump on the two women in greeting. It was the only way she really knew how to greet the people she liked after all.
¥ Zeraena ¥
Galroh stroked his chin at this information, before turning and looking at Zeraena in a silent question of 'why didn't you mention this?"
Zeraena awkwardly chewed her lip for a second before saying "Oh yeah. I honestly forgot we did that." which... she really had. It'd slipped her mind while she'd been telling the story but she also knew part of her hadn't wanted to share that information with Galroh yet anyways. Of course.... she couldn't say that to him.
"Where is this artifact right now? I would like to see it for myself." Galroh calmly said, to Zeraena's relief, moving on with the subject. She glanced over at Draiil because he'd been the one to stash it, before glancing back towards Galroh and saying "We'll see if we can get it to you. It might take us a while just because it's supposedly really volatile. I wouldn't want to endanger you."
Galroh nodded, waving them off as permission for them to go and do so.
¥ Zeraena ¥
Zeraena wasn't quite sure what Draiil had meant until they actually got there. She didn't have time to let out an 'ooh' of wonder because of the right-off-the-bat scare with Fred messing with the artifact thing, but after that, she gave the place a very thorough look around. "Huh. How long have you known about this, eh? This place have anything to do with how you re-built Fred?" she questioned, immediately wanting to fiddle around with some of the gadgets but opting against that for the sake of the task at hand. Which was the artifact. ....She wanted to touch that, too. Plus she did want an excuse to go over to Fred and just take a look at him too.
¥ Zeraena ¥
Zeraena stared at him for a few moments, then glanced around, then asked "Is that really possible? Do you think Fred is capable of activating this thing?"
Jessa nodded to the guard, gesturing between Floofy and Grumf.
"Yeah, on the ride here with Naboris. I gave him a few pointers for our language. Floofy's relatively harmless and is good friends with Trixie. You should see them playing together sometime. I made sure he could at least roll his Rs properly." She admitted, nodding to the Goron.
"Met him when I was at Castle Hyrule. Trixie liked him right away and you guys know how she is about strangers. The vure is called a "Shadow Kagarock". They're from someplace called the "Twilight Realm" which somehow connects to both his world and ours apprently. They used some sort of artifact to get here and since they can't find it, they are unfortunately stuck here until they can find it again. I offered to give them a place to stay in the mean time. You know Mom's always letting travelers stay with us when the inn's full, or even for the heck of it." The girl admitted to the two older women.
"Oh and Lady Riju will be expecting my report on the afairs at the castle. We had a little Divine Beast trouble, but Naboris helped us get the situation under control." She added, smiling at her Goron friend. It was clear even to these women that their introverted "Sister" was quite comfortable with these two strangers despite the fat she was a known introvert.
Jessa smiled as a few of the kids ran forward to greet them. They were used to Maxilar so a Shadow Kagarock would be no big deal for them and barely gave the bird a second glance.
"JESSA'S BACK!" They squealed, tackling the older girl. Jessa yelped as she landed on her backside in the adobe street, laughing along with the girls as Trixie yipped happily, getting stuffed with treats by the girls, none of them older than five. She couldn't help laughing along with them.
"Hey guys, yeah, I'm back. Sorry I was gone so long this time. Were you all good girls while I was gone?" She asked, earning hugs and chatter from them.
"So who's the new goron?" One girl demanded, glancing at Grumf. "And what's with the weird looking vure? I've never seen one like it before!" another asked. "Is it one of your pets Jessa?" Another demanded. "It looks big enough to hold a person, can we ride it like we can ride Maxilar?" A fourth asked, walking right up to Floofy without an ounce of fear in her.
"Milla! Come on guys, it's not even my bird! And my friend's name is Grumf, Floofy belongs to him. Weird name, I know, but it's his bird. Floofy's also good friends with Trixie. I'm sure that if you ask Grumf nicely, he'll see if Floofy can give you rides later once we speak to Lady Riju." Jessa told them, earning the puppy eyes from the girl who asked if they could ride Floofy - Milla. She was the youngest, four years old. None of them were older than a decade. Considering Hylians, Gerudo and others like them lived longer than humans, that would be considered a youngster. They all grew up around Maxilar so they were used to odd creatures of the night, but it was clear they'd never seen anything like Floofy before. One of the girls, a youngster named Resuta, was looking over Floofy with a critical eye. A second girl, a 7 year old named Rainuri, was poking at Grumf a little while her one year older sister Sotako tried to pull her back while Milla simply stared
The kids were now enthraled with Grumf and Floofy.
"How come your vure doesn't have talons? He looks big enough to lift a Sand Seal if he wanted to." Rainuri asked, pointing at Floofy's claws. Jessa was also curious about that. That was a pretty good observation from the little girl. She'd make a good scientist.
"I was wondering the same thing, if he's a bird of prey, how come he doesn't have talons like a hawk or an eagle?" Jessa asked, glancing at the claws of her birdy friend
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus found himself laying face-first on the ground, his head throbbing slightly along with some part of his back. He groaned gruffly, before catching a bit of pink movement out of the corner of his eye. And that's when he remembered Ferdinand.
"Hey..... HEY!!" he growled, pushing himself up and off of the ground. He grabbed Ferdinand by the wrist, scowling at him angrily. "WHAT did you do." he demanded. "Do you really think your lynel magic tricks are going to get you out of this? Hmm? Teleporting us makes no difference." he growled, although he was mildly aware that wasn't exactly what had happened. He was still a little discombobulated after having a lynel smack into him and then fall on him so he was jumping to conclusions mostly out of instinct.
¤ Rubblus ¤
"If not you, then WHO, or what, did?" Rubblus growled.
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus arched an eyebrow at Ferdinand, but luckily for the Lynel, Rubblus wasn't suspicious of him enough to think Ferdinand's pointing at something behind him is a trick. So he turned and looked and....
At first, he wasn't really sure what he was looking at. But then he realized the issue. The THING poking out of the top of death mountain (which looked a little different from his but he wasn't paying attention to that right now.)
"By Din.... What in the blazes is that?" he breathed, for there weren't Divine Beasts in the world both he and Ferdinand came from.
Jessa smiled, seeing the girls were perfectly comfortable around Floofy despite the fact he was different. It was a good thing they were used to Maxilar after all. That certainly helped. They DID grow up around him for the most part.
"OK guys, I think that's enough questions for now. You can pester Grumf for information about Floofy later. Right now we have to go see Lady Riju." Jessa told the kids, earning a collective awe of dissapointment from the group. She rolled her eyes in response.
"Don't you kids have chores to do anyways?" She reminded them, making them scatter. That worked every time. She grinned in response.
"The chore reminder. Scares them off every time. Come on, we better get going. Lady Riju is expecting us." The young Geridah told Grumf as she led the way throuh town towards the palace.
Jessa knelt as she approached Lady Riju's throne, pleased to see Grumf knew royal protocols. Or at least cultural ones. Even Buliara approved.
"It will be Milady. And it's a rather interesting story too." Jessa replied. She started with her arrival at the palace, then Yunobo's, Link's and Rudania's arrival and why Naboris left the desert. Naboris had been curious about what was going on with her two brothers and was coming mostly to keep them in check. She told them how Grumf arrived and about his missing artifact. She also explained his relationship with Floofy and Floofy's relationship with Trixie. She didn't go into too much detail about the tour of Naboris of course. She also mentioned Prince Sidon's brief visit. And of course Rudania's and Naboris pranking those two tourists by roaring at them to scare them.
"Naboris nearly scared the living spirit out of me! All of us either ended up laughing or either scolding one of our Divine Beasts for that one." She commented, then went on with the story. "I gave Grumf here a few pointers on our language on the way back with Naboris. I figured that way he could at least roll his sounds properly. We actually got swarmed by a few kids when we entered town. They seemed pretty interested in Floofy too. Especially when they found out he was like Maxilar."
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus frowned at Ferdinand, then looked back towards the mountain. "Something isn't right about this. Death Mountain doesn't look like that. It's gotta be some other mountain." he said.
He stared confusedly as the giant monster eventually crawled fully out of the mountain, revealing it to be some sort of giant lizard with really weird legs. Rubblus scratched his head while trying to figure out what in the name of Din that thing was. Now, it was too far away to really tell when Rudania had set loose his drones, but he spotted.. SOMETHING flying towards them from the direction the giant monster was.
Just then, Ferdinand suddenly ripped free of his grip and hid under a nearby rocky outcropping. Rubblus quickly went after him, but not because he wanted to hide. Because he didn't want Ferdinand getting away from him. Especially if the Lynel had even ACCIDENTALLY caused this.
Whatever the flying thing was, it cast a red beam of light down at the ground. At Ferdinand's question, Rubblus narrowed his eyes at him, before proceeding to peak out a little bit and get a glimpse at the drone. "It is some sort of.... flying, heavily armored.. thing." he described rather vaguely. He then turned back to Ferdinand to stare him down. "And for next time. I don't recommend you try running like that again. You wouldn't want me to think you're trying to escape when you don't mean to."
He turned back around, peeking out at the drone. He was considering trying to ground it, but he didn't trust Ferdinand to not run away as soon as he was distracted with doing that.
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus furrowed his brow at Ferdinand, frowning at him. "Run? And let that thing get away? You really are s.tupid. We've got to ground it and figure out what it is! While this might not be a part of Death Mountain I've seen before, it's still death mountain. I can feel it. If that THING is on MY mountain, I want to know what it is. You should too. It might wander down into Lynel territory if we don't get rid of it." he huffed, using that last part as leverage to get Ferdinand to help him. Even though he was fairly confident he could do this on his own, it didn't hurt to have back-up and to keep Ferdinand occupied with something other than running away.
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus gave a gruff 'hmph' at him, not even flinching at Ferdinand's abrupt fire belch and instead looking back out when the drone came back. "Well, I'm only taking it on alone because the only other guy around is a mewling little kitten! STAY HERE!" he growled, then curled up and swiftly rolled out from under the outcropping.
He made a bee-line for a boulder he'd spotted just before taking off, stopping by it and uncurling so he could pick it up. Said boulder was bigger than his head, so... he could very easily hold it in one hand. Once he had it in hand, he turned to face the drone and yelled "HEY! OVER HERE!"
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus waited until the thing seemed close enough, then just upped and chucked the rock at it. He was prepared to get another one or even just.. try to jump at it if that ended up not working.
Jessa put a reassuring hand on Grumf's arm. Sort of her silent way of saying "Even I made that mistake once, don't worry too much about it," and "Buliara's like that with everyone" sort of way. She turned her attention back to Riju.
"Thankfully, we were able to get Rudania and Medoh back under control. Both their handlers are still learning how to communicate with them, but are improving. Also, I should mention that Zelda's kitchen staff were grateful for our delivery of voltfruit for their stores. They wanted me to ask if we could send another harvest next year. They'll pay top rupees for it too." She reported, a small smug smile on her face. Though she had noticed the colorful banners and decorations already starting to go up in the town market. She knew what that meant: The Summer Nights Festival was starting - the first big event of the season. She never missed the nightly parties that came with it. She always made an appearance even if it wasn't for long thanks to her introverted nature. It was also a time for Maxilar to have a little fun since they used the rock ledges not far from the village (closer to the Gerudo Gateway stables actually) for horse races. The owners of the stables would often let the Gerudo woman borrow their horses for the races. They even provided the food for Maxilar since Jessa often helped with their own needs around the stables when she was on her way back from visiting her Dad
Jessa grinned a she stood up, adjusting her backpack as she did so. She bowed one more time to Riju before responding.
"Thank you Lady Riju. We'll just drop our things off at my place then go help get the festival ready for tonight." She told the younger woman before leading Grumf outside with Trixie on her heels.
"You're going to love the Summer Nights Festival, Grumf. It's the first big celebration of the summer. We do it the first full moon in the season. It lasts a whole week and goes all day and night. There's Sand Seal races, horse races out by the plateaus, all sorts of yummy food, and even combat demonstrations." Jessa told Grumf and stoped, hitting her face with her palm. "I should've asked Riju to invite Link and Zelda. I know Voe aren't allowed in the village, but I know Link will find some way to sneak in." She realized, Trixie yipping at her owner as if to say "Uh, DUH!" in Fox.
"Oh well, maybe I'll go ask her later. Come on, my house isn't too far from here. We can drop off our stuff and see where we're needed. Mom will have a food stand and knick nacks too, knowing her." She mused, thinking of what her mother sold for a living.
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus watched the drone crash, not exactly all that appreciative of Ferdinand's help but he tolerated it for the moment. Once the thing had finally crashed, Rubblus waddled over to it, prodded it with the toe of his metallic sandal, then glanced up at Ferdinand and said "I believe so."
He looked back down at it and realized that this wasn't any sort of animal at all. It was a machine. (For, like Grumf's version of the Gorons, Rubblus' home actually had some functioning technology to it too. Not robots, of course, but he knew what gears usually tend to do.)
"It's not even a monster. It's some sort of flying machine. Who made it is the question, now." he noted, starting to take it apart and look at the parts it was made up of. Specifically, he was looking for some sort of insignia or something.
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus said "I hope so. Perhaps HE'S behind whatever happened to bring us here. But don't think I'm completely dropping you as a suspect yet."
He stood back up, peering around at the mountainscape surrounding them. "I say we head towards whatever that big lizard creature was. Surely there's someone else around here trying to figure out what that thing is, and obviously they would head towards it to check it out. Plus.... that's where the flying thing came from." he finally decided, looking back towards Ferdinand.
Jessa smiled, looking back at Grumf.
"Don't worry, Mom's used to me bringing home weird animals by now. But I did make sure she knew you and Floofy were coming in my letter. She knows how to take care of monsters thanks to lots of experience with Maxilar. We'll get him in his pile of dirt, grab something to eat and go check out the start of the festival." She told the Goron, a smug grin on her face.
"We also keep what you gorons would consider gormet rocks on hand in case of Goron visitors. They often come to town and Mom likes to be prepared. Her name's Raleona by the way." She added, leading him to an adobe home near the Southeast Sand Seal stables. You could hear them barking from the home, but Jessa liked the noise. She could be close to Nabu here. The house in question was decorated with woven decorations for the Summer Nights Festival, along with the typical weavings of Vah Naboris and Nabooru, the first hero of the Gerudo, and of course Lady Urbosa herself. Most Gerudo homes had these images year round.
"MOM! I'M HOME!" Jessa called as she opened the door, a redheaded woman poking her head out of the kitchen where you could smell the cooking salts and spices. Her face lit up when she saw her daughter.
"Jessa! It's about time! I heard from the kids you were back! Maxilar's stable is all set up for you." Raleona greeted, pulling her hybrid daughter into a hug before seeing the Goron.
"And you must be Grumf. And I'm guessing this handsome vure here is Floofy?" Raleona asked, nodding to Floofy and Grumf as Trixie ran into the house, settling on her bed with a cute little yawn to take a nap.
Raleona chuckled and smiled at the Goron as she went back to the kitchen for a moment to check on whatever was cooking. From the smell of it, it was gormet salt grilled meats.
"Yup! But you can just call me Raleona. Or Rae for short. Everyone does. Either one works fine. Anyways, I'm making lunch if you want something to eat before going out to see Nabu. Oh and Jessa, I made sure there was a fresh pile of mud and dirt in Maxilar's stall out back. Lunch will be ready in five minutes, so that gives you both time to clean up and get settled." Raleona told the young Goron, seeing what Floofy was poking at. The lights gave off a slight blueish glow thanks to the material they were made out of. Jessa saw it too.
"Those lamps are made with luminous ore. We use them to light everything around here. The gold light comes from what filters we can use to make them seem more like daylight." Jessa explained, smiling at Floofy's curiosity about their little gizmos. "They're Sheikah tech by the way. One of my Great Uncles or something invented them about two centuries ago."
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus irritably bared his teeth at Ferdinand. "Yeah yeah yeah, I GET it already! And frankly I think it's pathetic! What are you, a Lynel or a mouse!? You can TELEPORT for pete's sake! if that thing comes after us, then YOU'LL just zap us out of harm's way. You can do that, can't you?" he growled, more in a demanding tone than an inquisitive one.
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus punched the ground in a move similar to what Bludo often does, but this was more inspired by annoyance than anything else. "Look. Do you wish to find out what happened or not? Why there's a giant lizard inside of a volcano? Where that flying machine came from? Hmm?" he questioned, then pointed at Death Mountain. "We will ONLY find that stuff out if we actually LOOK AROUND! Dangerous or not!" he growled.
¤ Rubblus ¤
Rubblus narrowed his eyes at the Lynel, not really getting a very reassuring vibe from that barely audible little mumble he did.
The Goron marched over to Ferdinand, giving him a prod towards the direction of the volcano the giant lizard crawled into. "Alright you. Mush." he ordered, set on not letting Ferdinand out of his immediate sight. The he more quietly grumbled "Of course, when something nuts happens, I get stuck with a lynel. And not even a proper warrior lynel. A pink lynel."
Grumf said "Thanks for the ride!" when Naboris let them off ((I'm assuming that's what stopping meant)) then told Jessa "Right. No dudes other then Gorons. Got it. ......actually..... I assume male pets are ok too right? They aren't mates ether so the same logic should apply?"
Floofy was a little late to get off but it didn't matter as he had wings. He only joined his Goron when he noticed the group splitting. As a familiar shadow passed over then Grumf said "See? Told ya he'd follow when he saw me leaving."
