Portal 2:Long Time Passed
"Oh nothing huge nothing huge. It's just....if you hadn't made a big deal about it I probably wouldn't have even noticed you had it." Wheatley said. "Well, I mean. I would have seen it and I would have wondered why it was there but I'm currently a little busy at the moment and I have bigger things to worry about then some girl's doll."
Chell picks up the doll knowing that Harper probably wanted her to keep it safe.
GLaDOS meanwhile was very confused and asked "What? Where did that come from? Why?" even though she knew Chell couldn't actually answer her verbally. Chell used some loose wire from one of the many falling apart things in Aperture to tie the plush tiger to her portal gun (you know. For safe keeping).
GLaDOS commented "Oh. So you're willing to skewer me but not a toy. Ok then."
"Excuse me for not knowing you had a sense of touch as a POTATO." Thought Chell.
They turned a corner to find an elaborate set up with a crusher and a conveyor belt.
Wheatley's face appeared on a monitor on the wall as he said "Ah! There you are! Great. Let me just get rid of this catwalk."
Wheatley used some machinery to smash a catwalk on the other side of the conveyor belt in order to force Chell to pause then he continued "There we go. I wanted to talk to you for a moment, if I may. I'll be honest the death traps have been a bit of a failure so far...for both of us." He then spend several minutes trying to convince Chell to willingly go into the masher.
((I got lazy this time and decided to just link a video I found that showcases just this specific scene. Imagine that whole thing happen except the part at the end where the person actually obeys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQvG81VNvfU I'm sure you've probably seen the scene yourself but some RP readers may not have so there you go))
Chell used her portals to direct some weird thing that was dropping bombs for some reason to throw one at the monitor before using the same bomb thing to break a pipe of gel that she used to get past the broken catwalk.
Wheatley said "Okay. I'll take that as a no then. But um...maybe don't leave JUST yet because I do have one more thing to tell you. This isn't about convincing you to k.ill yourself I promise. In fact it's about your friend." Chell temporarily came back. Wheatley continued "I have her you know. I have integrated her into the whole getting my lair ready for you...thing. See because hostages make things much more interesting don't they? Come try and rescue her if you dare. I do have the nurotoxin generator back up and running and if you try to mess it up before coming or if you try to mess anything else up before coming I will k.ill her. So, see you in a little bit. I do expect you WILL be coming given the fact that if you don't GLaDOS calling you a horrible person in the past will be made a true statement. "
Chell picked up the pace as this news did worry her some much to Wheatley's amusement the next time he caught a look at her expression. As her weird way of trying to lighten the mood GLaDOS told her "Crushing's too good for him. First he'll spend a year in the incinerator. Year two; cryogenic refrigeration wing. Then TEN years in the chamber I built where all the robots scream at you. THEN I'll k.ill him."
Chell gave GLaDOS a very disapproving look.
GLaDOS asked "STILL no? Even though he just threatened to murder your friend? Alright. But you can't stop me from imagining it."
Chell only rolled her eyes in response.
"You mean the petting thing?" Wheatley asked. "Because I already did that to you once."
Wheatley told her "Well I'm sorry to tell you this love but yes. I believe you have indeed gotten yourself in trouble. In fact I dare say mentioning that was foolish because now you know I'm going to ask about it further."
Wheatley shoves a pannle in her way to block her and asks "So. When you said you're powerless does that include the burning thing?"
"Um....what?" Wheatley asked. "You've BEEN using them. The ENTIRE time I've known you."
Wheatley looked at her like he thought she was crazy. "You've been forcing yourself. Aaaand it hurts. What about the times you dared me to grab you a second time just so you could burn me? What about all the times you teleported around and on me for no apparent reason other than to be annoying? Things like that. Are you telling me you did something that HURTS and that WEAKENS you for no more reason then to be a nuisance to me? You DO realize that had a chance of preventing you from escaping during an actually important time. You know, like NOW. When you're a hostage."
"Ah. .....Welcome to Aperture. You fit right in." Wheatley grumbled then he whispered "I'm actully in a simalir situation right now. But I can't quit." before saying out loud "Anyway back to the weakness topic. You are currently unable to do anything magic...y. ...Yes?"
Wheatley grabbed her (just because he could) and said "That means I can actually build a legit trap with you and not just use your presence here to lure your friend in. I might not even have to risk having her come into this room. Though...having you in the room would make you more difficult to rescue. Give me a second to think things through. I do NOT have many chances to get this right. It must be....perfect."
Wheatley sighed as if to say "nothing today has been easy" then asked her "You gonna tell me or are you just bluffing to try to scare me into letting you go?"
Wheatley made a frustrated noise then said "Why did you have to pick such a destructive demonstration? Now I have to fix that."
"I AM NOT A TWIT! I AM NOT A M.ORON AND I AM NOT A TWIT!" Wheatley yelled.
Chell peaked in from the damaged wall. Somehow she had snuck behind the pannles to investigate when she heard the explosion. Wheatley was so focused on the other girl he didn't notice her.
"I KNOW SO MANY MORE THINGS NOW! So therefore that is factually untrue." Replied Wheatley smugly.
Chell waved at Harper then disappeared. She and GLaDOS still needed to find corrupted cores before challenging Wheatley so they didn't actually want to get spotted yet. Still Wheatley heard something, perhaps footsteps or the creak of a pannle as Chell climbed over some machinery, and he turned to look. Luckily Chell was already out of sight.
"Huh. Did you hear something? I thought I heard something." Wheatley asked.
"Oh what's wrong NOW?" He asked more annoyed then actually concerned. (Well. Outwardly anyway. You can bet his subconscious was concerned)
Meanwhile in order to get where they needed to go they needed to get under the lair which meant they had to back track away from the lair and then go back to it from a different angle. They were temporarily stopped as a wall fell away revealing that they had a GIANT pit to cross. GLaDOS said in a loud whisper she was so dumbstruck "Oh my god! What has he DONE to this place?"
Chell looked around for a way to get across and spotted an antigrav beam that just happened to be pointed in the right direction. Chell used orange jell, speed and portals to fling herself up into it. As they floated above the tecknopunk looking crevasse GLaDOS randomly decided to spill something out to Chell. "You know. I'm not stupid. I realize you don't want to put me back in charge. You think I'll betray you. And on any other day you'd be right. The scientists were always hanging cores on me to regulate my behavior. I've heard voices all my life. But now I hear the voice of a conscience and it's terrifying. Because for the first time it's MY voice." Chell wiggled out of the beam and onto a walkway. "Really." She thought giving GLaDOS a very suspicious look. GLaDOS didn't just pour her heart out to people. It had to be a trick. Seeing the look GLaDOS added "I'm being serious. I think there's something really wrong with me."
Chell thought "You could not have said anything that would make me more suspicious than I am right now." But there was something in the tone of GLaDOS' voice that made Chell unsure. It sounded almost....scared. Which by the way was not any weirder to hear coming out of GLaDOS now then the first time it happened. Even though Chell didn't trust GLaDOS' word at all and was pretty sure the AI had just found out how to mimic the sound of fear to mess with her Chell still paused and gave GLaDOS a very awkward but supportive pat on what could be considered her topside at the moment.
GLaDOS wasn't sure how to react to this. She was a little insulted that Chell's reaction was one someone might give a dog scared by a thunderstorm but at the same time Chell couldn't talk so she didn't feel like it would be fair to judge her too harshly for an action that might have been all Chell could think of to show her support. Also, Chell was showing her support. This was still just as weird for her as her showing Chell support was for Chell. Even weirder she herself didn't know why she had spontaneously decided to share her worries with Chell. Especially since SHE knew there was no way it wouldn't look suspicious. The whole moment was very weird for both partys for multiple reasons.
Wheatley's subconscious replied "You think I was smarter before all this? That means a lot more to me than even you know."
As they turned a corner Chell and GLaDOS ran into two heaps of very bored looking cores. GLaDOS said "Corrupted cores! We're in luck. You find a way to stun him, I'll send you a core and then you attach it to him just like that friend of yours said. If we do it enough times he might become corrupt enough for another core transfer." Chell continued on until she found a platform very much like the one that she, Harper and Wheatley had accidentally road up into GLaDOS' room after they had equally accidentally woken her up. GLaDOS asked Chell to plug her in. She pulled the potato off her gun as gently as she could and followed GLaDOS' instruction. GLaDOS told her "Look. Even if you think we're still enemys. We're enimys with a common interest. Revenge. You like revenge right? Everyone likes revenge. So let's go get some!"
Chell only half listened. She knew GLaDOS was only being GLaDOS so she decided to not be annoyed by the AI's assumption. Admittedly revenge was fun when it felt like the person deserved it but at the moment she was still just being defensive for her sister and herself. No offense required. Revenge was what she did when she was breaking Wheatley's monitors. Not what she was after now. Still, GLaDOS had got an even shorter end of the stick then Chell so she understood where she was coming from.
Wheatley immediately noticed the platform start moving and he scrambled to set things up. He'd already done some off to the side earlier but he still needed to attach the shields he was planning to use. He had only JUST done it when Chell and POTaTOS rose out of the floor.
Doing his best to seem intimidating Wheatley told them "Well well well. Welcome to my LAIR!"
Chell hoped off the platform and it disappeared back into the floor along with GLaDOS. Chell assumed GLaDOS probably did that herself given that she seemed to be pretty good at controlling the platform and so wasn't too worried.
Wheatley continued "Let me just flag something up. According to the control pannle light up there, the entire building is going to self destruct in about six minutes. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the light, I think the light's on the blink but just in case it isn't I am actually going to have to k.ill you. As discussed earlier."
"Wouldn't it make more sense to fix the problem first and THEN k.ill me? I feel like the facility exploding should be more important than snuffing my life out no matter how annoying I am." Chell thought knowing Wheatley couldn't hear her anyway.
"If it helps I'm not insulted. I probably would have burned me several times too." Wheatley's subconscious replied.
Wheatley meanwhile was telling Chell "So let's call that three minutes and then a minute break which should leave a leisurely two minutes to figure out how to shut down whatever's causing all these fires."
Chell wasn't listening though. She walked over to Harper noticing the girl looked upset, tapped her on the shoulder then removed India from her gun and offered the plush to Harper with a thought of "I kept her safe for you."
Wheatley said "So anyway. That's the itinerary." Then he noticed the girls weren't even looking at him and snapped "AY! I'm talking about how I'm going to k.ill you! Is that not at least a little important?" Chell shoved the plush tiger in between her outer shirt (That she had not worn this entire time, insead just wearing the undershirt, and had kept tied around her waist instead) and her waist. For she did not have time to tie the plush back to the gun but needed her hands free to more effectively wield the portal gun. Only then did she turn to Wheatley who said "Yes that's right. Look at people when they are trying to talk to you! It's only polite isn't it. What was I talking about? Oh ya. K.illing you. I took the liberty of watching the tapes of you k.illing her and I'm not going to make the same mistakes. Four part plan is this: One, no portal surfaces. Two, start the nurotoxin immediately. Three bomb-proof shields for me." He pulled his shield pannles into position then said "Leading directly onto number four...bombs. For throwing at you."
Chell looked up at the green mist seeping in from the corners of the room then thought to Harper "Whatever you do don't panic. It only becomes deadly once it hits a specific concentration. We found corrupted cores. GLaDOS said she'd bring them in....somehow. I can't believe I'm saying this but we'll have to just try not to d.ie and trust that she knows what she is doing."
Wheatley told them "You know what, this plan is so good I'm going to give you a sporting chance and turn off the nurotoxin. I'm kidding of course. Goodbye." Bombs started raining down.
While Wheatley did let out a few choice words Chell thought "You kidding? British cusses are the best and he talks like a British person....for...some reason. .....Do you suppose whoever built him was British? I bet so I mean how else would-"
She had to stop to dodge more bombs. One of them hit a pipe full of the white portal gel and it splashed EVERYWHERE. Chell darted this way and that to avoid being hit by it for even though it would be helpful once it stopped flowing she did NOT want to experience a Cave Johnson. (Death by moonrock exposure)
Wheatley screamed in alarm then tried to cover himself up by saying "Ha. That....sounded real. No. That...was actually an impression of you. Actually. Because you just fell into my....trap. My brilliant trap. Just then. I wanted you to trick me into bursting that pipe. You didn't trick me. Seemingly trick me. Gives you false hope. Leads to overconfidence and that leads to mistakes. Fatal mistakes. It's all part of my plan."
By this point Chell wasn't listening to him anymore. She was getting tired of all these freaking bombs. She placed two portals redirecting a bomb back at Wheatley. Somehow this worked to stun him. GLaDOS' voice came through the room saying "Good work! I'm delivering the first core up near the catwalk."
Chell looked up there and saw a claw holding a core. "Ah. So that's how. She must have hacked it. Speaking of catwalks. Hey Harper check it out the cat's got her claws back. Or...one claw back. Still. The joke works."
"Space space wanna go to space yes please space. Space space go to space." Said the corrupted core.
"Wow. Did someone give him coffee?" Thought Chell even though she knew it made no sense.
"That one was awful even for a pun. I didn't find it very punny." Thought Chell in return right before she stuck the hyperactive astronomy loving core on the mainframe. This was actually a bit of a difficult task as it really was the most hyperactive thing one could encounter and Chell had to be really careful to make sure her fingers didn't get caught in any of its works.
The automated voice said "Warning. Core corruption at 50%. Vent system compromised. Nurotoxin offline."
"WOOOOOO! Nurotoxin offline!!!" Thought Chell doing a victory hands in the air for a second gesture.
Wheatley woke up to find his mind being flooded with "SpaceSpaceSpaceSpace Wanna go to space" ect. He said "Uuuhg. Wha- What happened? WHAT HAPPENED! Wha-wha-What have- What have you put onto me? What is that?"
"What do you think it is Wheatley?" Thought Chell.
More bombs flew but evidently not willingly on Wheatley's part as he said "Hold on. Ah the bloody bombs are stuck on. Doesn't matter. I've reconfigured the shields."
Chell managed to get another bomb through them anyway knocking him out again.
GLaDOS delivered a green eyed core (Rick) this time who also wouldn't shut up but wasn't nearly as hyper as the space one. "Quick! What's the situation?" The core asked.
Chell thought "No time to explain unless you can do it in one or two sentences. Just grab him."
Chell took the core and immediately he started hitting on her too.
"Hi there pretty lady. The name's Rick. So, you out having yourself a little adventure?" He asked continuing with "What are you fighting that guy? You got that under control? You know because...it looks like there's a lot of stuff on fire. Hey! A countdown clock! Maan that is trouble. Situation's looking pretty ugly. Such a beautiful women. If you don't mind me saying. I don't wanna scare ya but I'm an adventure sphere. Designed for danger. So why don't you go ahead and have yourself a..little lady break and I'll just take it from here."
Chell stopped listening at that point because after that it just got annoying.
"What the- Why did GLaDOS have to pick THIS guy?" Then remembering the fact that from what she'd been told cores were meant to give GLaDOS specific personality traits when plugged into her. "Please don't turn Wheatley into a womanizer." she thought as she put Rick onto him. Chell was actually relived when Wheatley simply continued trying to k.ill her apon waking up the second time.
"Warning. Core corruption at 75%" the automated voice said. It continued "Reactor explosion timer destroyed. Reactor Explosion uncertainty emergency preemption protocol initiated. This facility will self destruct in two minutes."
Wheatley woke up and snapped "Enough! I told you not to put these cores on me! But you don't listen do you? Quiet. All the time. Quietly not listening to a word I say. Judging me. Sighlently. The worst kind."
Chell hit him with a bomb again. "Sorry Wheatley. I know this must be getting very unpleasant for you at this point." She thought.
GLaDOS sent over another core. "Here's another core! This one should do it." She said.
The newest core said "Diamonds are made when coal is put under intense pressure. Diamonds put under intense pressure become foam pellets, commonly used today as packing material."
"He got his facts mixed up." Thought Chell able to hear the core even though she was on the ground and it was in the air.
Chell stuck the last core on Wheatley.
The automated voice said "Warning. Core corruption at 100%"
Wheatley woke up with a pained yell like he was really sore. Well, he had just been hit by three bombs so Chell figured he probably was.
The automated voice said "Manual core replacement required."
"Oooh. I see." Said Wheatley with a chuckle. He now knew what the plan against him was.
The automated voice asked "Substitute core. Are you ready to start?"
"Yes! Come on!" Replied GLaDOS anxious given how close the facility was to self destruction.
The automated voice asked "Corrupted core. Are you ready to start?"
"What do you think?" Snapped Wheatley.
The automated voice said "Interpreting vague answer as yes."
Wheatley quickly corrected "NoNoNonono! No! Didn't pick up on my sarcasm!"
The automated voice corrected itself "Stalemate detected. ........Fire detected in the stalemate resolution Annex. Extinguishing."
The sprinklers came on putting out the fire and washing off all the gel from the room except for one spot under Wheatley where the huge mainframe prevented the water from rinsing.
Wheatley noted "Ah. That just cleans right off does it? Well that would've been good to know. A little earlier."
The automated voice said "Stalemate resolution associate. Please press the stalemate resolution button."
"Go press the button! Go press it!" Called GLaDOS from...wherever she was.
Wheatley called "Do not press that button!"
GLaDOS called "We're so close! Go press the button!"
"On it GLaDOS! Like I have any other choice but to press it." Thought Chell. She portaled into the room....and suddenly there was an explosion that flung Chell backwards across the room.
Wheatley yelled triumphantly "PART FIVE! BOOBYTRAP THE STALEMATE BUTTON!!!"
Chell lifts her head from the floor where she had been flung.
Wheatley yells "What? Are you still alive?! You are joking! You have got to be kidding me!"
All around them the place is falling apart. Wheatley says "Well I'm still in control and I have no idea how to fix this place. Oooh. You HAD to play bloody cat and mouse didn't you?" In a last desperate attempt to do SOMETHING before the facility blew up Chell grabbed the portal gun and shot upward into the sky through a hole that had opened up in the roof. The shot traveled all the way to the moon which by the way is a very portal conductive surface. Suddenly a portal in the floor that Chell had placed earlier became a hole into space. The vacuum of said space started sucking things out of the room. Wheatley was pulled loose from the mainframe still attached by only a few wires. Having seen what Wheatley was before he got corrupted Chell tried to run over and save him but she quickly lost her footing and flew out into space with him. Now she was clinging to him with the air being pulled from Aperture all around her being the only thing keeping her alive as she tried not to let go for her own life.
((I copy and pasted the last part right from the start of flashback 2 from this page http://forum.schoolofdragons.com/content/core-and-fury-rp?page=28 If we can keep the scenes the same enough that I don't have to retype much that would be great))
"Space!" Said Wheatley looking around alarmed. "Let go! We're in space!"
"Space? Space! SPAAACE!" Called space core as he flew by hitting one of Chell's hands. The human nearly slipped at that moment but somehow refastened her grip on Wheatley before she did.
Wheatley (who was still a little bit on the corrupted side) said "Let go! I'm still connected! I can pull myself in! I can still fix this!" then GLaDOS' voice replied "I already fixed it. And you are NOT coming back." A claw came through the portal to break the wires still connecting Wheatley to Aperture. Chell was pretty sure this meant the end of herself too and thought "Thanks for trying." to Harper but almost the same second Wheatley flew past her she became aware of something grabbing her harm and pulling back through the portal to safety. She didn't have much time to register the surprise and relief in her head before the claw dropped her and she passed out on the floor. The dangerous portal had been quickly removed and GLaDOS started repairs.
GLaDOS caught this weird floating girl before the fall hurt her and set her on the ground. "Why did I do that?" She wondered to herself. Then she looked at Chell and wondered "More importantly why did I do THAT?" She HAD wanted the girl dead earlier hadn't she? Why DID she pull the mute lunatic from space? A funny thought hit her "Huh. It took the vacuum of SPACE to finally defeate you. You crazy crazy little human." Atlas and P-body peaked into the room wondering what all the ruckus was about. When they saw that GLaDOS was back in charge they ran to her happily for they had been a little bit scared of that Wheatley fellow. Not scared to d.ie obviously given their death immunity but the way everything shook and fell apart had been very offputting. GLaDOS told them "Hello Atlas. Hello P-body. I have just had a very weird day. You?" P-body pointed at Chell and chirped a question. GLaDOS told him "It's a long story." before turning her attention back to Chell. Was she going to survive? Had this finally surpassed what the human's delicate little body could take? And again WHY did she care? This was a monster a murderer a...a... Then again. She HAD saved her from the bird. Not only that but the whole experience of riding on Chell's portal gun had kind of given her an interesting experience. Every death defying jump had been one GLaDOS had had to take with her. Every turret dodge. Every puzzle solved. Every near crush from mashy spike plates. GLaDOS had watched Chell closer than she had watched anyone. She had seen Aperture through the eyes of a test subject. Well...not literally but still. It made her feel.....strange. And that mixed with the whole Caroline thing really left her conflicted. She WANTED to be mad. She WANTED to k.ill Chell and have things go back to normal but at the same time she also DIDN'T want that. At the same time the idea of crushing Chell now or letting her fly into space horrified her. The very idea that she wanted to do those things horrified her. And.... the fact that she didn't understand why she felt this way also horrified her. In the end she blamed Caroline. It had to be Caroline's fault. However Chell was starting to move now so she turned her attention to her and set her in the elevator. When the human struggled to her feet GLaDOS said "Oh thank god you're alright." She said then immediately wondered why she had that reaction. Neverless she continued "You know being Caroline taught me a valuable lesson. All this time I thought you were my greatest enemy when all along you were my best friend." Chell blinked surprised to be alive but happy to take that fact. GLaDOS continued "The surge of emotion that shot through me when I saved your life taught me an even more valuable lesson. Where Caroline lives in my brain." An automated voice that wasn't GLaDOS said "Caroline deleted." GLaDOS had hoped this would fix the confusion in her emotions but for some reason it didn't. Unable to make sense of the situation GLaDOS tried to give her feelings some kind of justification. ANY kind of justification.
Chell took a step back slightly worried that she was about to have to deal with more trouble. GLaDOS continued talking. "Goodbye Caroline. You know deleting Caroline just taught me a valuable lesson. The best solution to a problem is usually the easiest one. And I'll be honest. K.illing you is h.ard. You know what my days use to be like? I just tested. Nobody murdered me. Or put me in a potato. Or fed me to birds. I had a pretty good life. And then YOU showed up. You dangerous... mute... lunatic. So you know what? You win. Just go." The elevator started moving upwards taking Chell with it.
"It's been fun. Don't come back." GLaDOS called after her.
Chell remained tense. She was sure this was going to be another lie. There was no way this wasn't going to be another lie. In deep Aperture she had learned that GLaDOS wasn't quite the monster she had originally taken her for but that didn't mean she trusted her one bit. When a door opened with four turrets behind it Chell immediately though "I $%#@ing knew it!" But although Chell braced herself to dodge bullets. They didn't shoot. Quite the opposite in fact. They started SINGING. Chell let her jaw drop and it stayed that way all the way up because a few floors later an entire Turret opera had been set up leaving Chell so speechless that if someone else had spoke near her the air around her probably would have exploded. ((antimatter vs. matter joke))
While Chell was doing a biological version of buffering up above GLaDOS turned her attention to Harper. (Or as she knew her at the time. That weird human who could apparently fly) Now....what should she do with this one?
"Good morning." said GLaDOS. "Your friend beat you in the waking up race. I sent her to the surface and I'm planning to do the same for you. I just need to make sure you can keep all of your parts in the elevator so you don't end up missing any of them."
