First: some guidelines:

Seeing as this species is from a Disney film, you should give appropriate credit, to Disney Studios and me for the open species idea.

Do not create innapropriate artwork of the species! I'd prefer any fan works to strictly SFW!

You can make your own design and do giveaways, but please don't use them for commercial purposes!

Hybrids are allowed, just be sure to note if they are part Forest dragon!

-

Now for the facts: They are at least 22 feet tall, and have an 80 foot wingspan.

They have the ability to camoflage and bvlend into their surroundings if needed. However, they lose their camoflage when they lose their cool.

But like all dragons, they have the ability to breathe fire, Drogon style! (it's so powerful that it can damage stone, no joke.)

They are covered in layers of thick but soft fur, like that of a Snow Leopard, which comes in handy - as they come from, and live in snowy mountain regions.

As they are more mammilian than reptilian, they give birth to live young, and they have retractable claws.

Northern Forest Dragons may have sharp teeth like a lion, and are naturally carnivorous, but they can choose to be omnivorous or a vegeterian. (Which in their community isn't a popular choice.)

Their natural colors are like that of the forest - many hues of light or dark green, but they very rarely are born albino or melanistuc.

They live in a society like a pride of lions.. minus the dragonesses doing all the work.

And here's a reference - base to use!

No no no no... you can't just take a dragon character from the movie, trace it, make a species name, give credit to Disney for basically creating it and saying It's your open species. ( Even saying what someone can and can't do with it ?! ) No, even it being open species doesn't make it right. Creating species is creating from your imagination, you can be inspired but no 1:1 tracing, good inspiration is when nobody can see what were you inspired on so no slapping additional wings/horns/markings on "Peters dragon" ( also, no, making your own description of this dragon doesn't count) It's need to be yours, not disneys.

I know, and I'm sorry..

Well.. There's more of Elliot's species shown at the end of the movie, and I just thought because of that, 'why aren't people making Forest Dragon OCs?'

And they don't exactly give a name to what Elliot's dragon species, and I thought 'why the heck not'?.

I know it's from a Disney movie, but I may have gotten a bit impatient..

(In other news, I've heard that Disney is getting investigated by the Senate.)

Perhaps just asking "why haven't people made OCs of The Northern Forest Dragon" or if there is anybody who has made a charicter from it and then explaining that, Northern Forest Dragon your fanmade name for this species would've been better. You trying to put rules on how other people can make fan art of a species you didn't create is actually more likely to drive people away from making one then it is to encourage people.

Perhaps another option would be to turn this thread into a therorizing about the species thread to get people talking about it too.

Hold on. Can I ask a genuine question here?

This forumer drew something they are proud of and wanted to share it only to be immediately shut down. I know that I have done that before and while I admit, I was DEFINITELY in the wrong at the time I just wish someone would have been a bit nicer to me about it. Because since then, I have been too afraid to post any of my artwork with the irrational fear that I did something wrong and someone would yell at me for it.

Which brings me to my question.

People make fan-made dragon adoptables all the time here. Nightfury customizables, Triple Stryke etc etc

What is the difference between that and this? Is it because this forumer assigned a fan made name to the species? Or is it because they are asking for credit for a species they didn't create? I can definitely see the issue there but I'm not sure if they are asking credit for the name or the concept as a whole

The issue is mostly because of the vocab used and the rules they set. An open species is when someone makes a species that they are giving permission for others to use but often with rules. They drew the picture but this species is from a movie so they have no right to dictate how other people are allowed to draw it. They are welcome to make head canon for species that didn't have a lot of canon info given to them and that's why I said maybe they should've made this a therorizing thread instead if their idea was to inspire other people to make fan charicters of this species but they can't make rules about how other people can and can't make fan charicters of something they did not make.

(Though they could make a rule of not posting any adult images on their thread if they wanted. That rule was ok)

Oh and...this isn't an adoptible. They're making a species info sheet wanting other people to make their own but with rules for how it should and shouldn't be done. If this was an adoptible and these rules were just what this person was willing to make for people then that would've been fine but that's not what this thread is.

No problum. Oh and I do think their picture is good by the way. I never meant anything bad about the picture itself.

Another thing I just thought of. (I hope this is helpful and not seen as unnessisary digging because I am trying to offer stuff and am not activly trying to be mean or nitpicky)

In the future this should probubly just be called a base if you want other people to use it. Many people make bases and there's nothing wrong with the picture itself or you explaining your fan theorys.

Still, just calling this a base or a reference picture seems to be closer to what you're really trying to say. (The term open species unfortunatly comes with a lot of baggage I'm assumeing you didn't know about)

You can also ask people credit you if they use your base but you can't really ask people to credit you for the idea behind it or to follow your head canons in how this species works. You can share yours and ask what headcanons other people have but that's kind of it.

(If you ever do a RP though then you can apply your rules to be how the species works in that RP or have a group talk pre-RP to decide how the species will work in the RP as everyone needs to follow generally the same idea when working together in a RP)
