Hi! :)

I've had two colds over vacay and finally getting over second one so I know just how you feel. Like the base sketch so far!

This dragon sounds pretty cool I could almost picture it looking like this:

Yeah, I actually got the idea

Yeah, I actually got the idea for it from dromaeosaurs. xD Just with the deadly talons on the wrong set of limbs.

I finished revising the base sketch, but then again I may decide I'm not satisfied and make a new one, but not for a while. I'll be doing vileclaw adoptables in the future.

Could I get some numbers,

Could I get some numbers, please? I like numbers! Though I'm already pretty sure it'll score high in realism, and probably quite low on overall awesomeness.

In the mean time, I need to figure out a better name for these guys..

I think it could be shortened

I think it could be shortened to simply "scuttlesting". Scuttlesting has a nice ring to it, (though the "acidic" part doesn't interfere at all) and it fits a bit more closely to the HTTYD naming style. Well, the newer naming style, I guess. Come to think of it, all of the first dragons we met had names like monstrous nightmare, hideous zippleback, or whispering death, so acidic scuttlesting does fit right in...

I quite like the name you chose, whether you keep the acidic part or not. It sounds awesome, fits with the HTTYD style, and, most importantly, suits the dragon quite well. I love naming dragon species, so here are a few ideas anyway, off the top of my head:

-Brightlure

-Tailstrike

-Caveclicker

-Deepsting

-Bitterspit

Hmmm..

You know, you're right..

You've kind of convinced me to keep the name ;)

I guess what was throwing me off was the "scuttle" part, mainly because A: there's already a dragon with "scuttle" in its name and B: It makes it sound a little less threatening than it is, however.. maybe that's the point.

The other names you listed are also quite good! I think a few would be good for naming a speed stinger, as well xD

At the time it was just kind of iffy sounding, because I originally planned on calling them "Acid Arachnoids" but they sort of changed in the planning process, and they seemed less and less like an arachnid, and also because I ended on giving it three pairs of legs, instead of four. So, "Acidic Scuttlesting" was my second idea. And now, I quite like it. Thank you :)

I think my favorite's lunch

Well I kinda wanted to post my dragons... I may try to make a new one soon. Click the pictures to go to the original post if you really want to

The Orecrawler is a very small dragon (this being about the actual size of the species. This dragon is in the mystery class temporarily as it doesn't fit into any other classes quite well. The small dragon, as it's name implies, crawls within ore deposits. It's tail holds a lot of nutrients and fat for it so it can survive the harder parts of the berk year. It usually protects it's tail by melting a hole in a chunk of ore and wiggling until it is completely covered, with the rock being held by the two scales on it's back. Although under the care of a viking it usually feels much safer and will keep it's tail out.

It uses acid to melt the ore and to create a small moat around it before it sleeps. It usually eats insects which hide under rocks. It has a great sense of smell and great sight, but is lacking in hearing. all the ore movement creates a lot of noise so...

The Forest Wanderer:

This Mystery class Dragon is absolutely massive with full grown dragons reaching sizes near the Red Death. They seem to resemble many sauropod dinosaurs, with a long neck and a tail that is just as long that tapers towards the end. They have a beak like snout with peg like teeth filling the mouth. At full grown, some teeth are always visible. It has multiple sets of horns on it's head with a sharp crest down the middle. It's long neck has a small sail, and it's lower back is covered in spines, even as a hatchling. Both have a well developed thumb claw (even though they dont have thumbs) and are incredible sharp. Adults develop a club at the end of their whiplike tail and have a wide array of colors. The underside of it's (relativiely small) wings are extremely vibrant. Although the colors and markings can vary drastically, there is always pairs of lines at the base of the neck and tail. The hatchlings are considerably less colorful, and are usually colors that help them to blend in to the forest until they grow larger. Their Crest is underdeveloped and appears more like a dome than crest. The markings vary extremely in hatchlings, but they always resemble leaves and rocks.

Behavior:

One of the few omnivorous dragons, its main diet consists of leaves and twigs, occasionally supplemented with fish. Both Adults and children usually walk on all four legs but will stand on hind legs to stay on the look out for predators and to reach the tenderest leaves. This dragon doesnt care for its young often, as they would eat too much and little would be left for the child. The adults are incapable of flight, since they have grown to large but their wings have not kept up. They are relatively decent swimmers and can move between islands without too much trouble. Hatchlings can fly until they are teens, at which point they revert to gliding or jumping higher with assistance of wings. The hatchlings are extremely shy and are more often hiding or eating than socializing, but when they do socialize they fill the air with beautiful melodies. Adults mate for life and their songs are even more beautiful. They are incredibly peaceful as adults and have been known to keep watch for smaller dragons and nice vikings.

Abilities

Two types of fire, a simple flame. nothing incredible (except for how much they can produce) and they can spit seeds and nuts they ingest. They are skilled combatants when needed and can attack with precision using their thumb claws and can deliver bone shattering blows by whipping their clubbed tail. They move surprisingly quietly through the forest and almost seem like they were never there. Beautiful songs that are one part sorrow and one part beauty.

Weakness:

Can't fly, and really can't defend itself against larger opponents (although red deaths still are careful). They are orphaned at ... laying time? in order to have the best chance to live. They develop slowly, their main defense against predators is they are too big.

dragon stats:

attack:15

speed:5

armor: 15-17 full grown

firepower: 15 (fire) 12 (seeds)

shot limit: 5; replenishable

venom: 0

jaw strength: 8

stealth :14

<the one in my sig is a young one of these

The Staring Deceiver

This shy mystery class dragon is relatively small, being only slightly larger than a viking. It spits extra sticky saliva capable of blinding temporarily and can breathe fire similar to a rumblehorn’s as well.  (It often uses these skills in a combination to allow it time to fly away) It is prey for other dragons so it opens its frill and wings to show multiple fake eyes to scare off predators. These “eyes” can glow if even more intimidation is needed. It lives in forests and small caves. They live in small groups and hunt boar and smaller dragons by having one scare the prey with its “eyes” into the rest of the small pack. They are very gentle around one another especially babies. The only time it won’t run from danger right away is when it is protecting hatchlings.

Their calls are reminiscent of owls and they are known to stay well within the tree lines or deep in caves. There are variations between the cave and forest variety, primarily in the eye markings, with the cave variety having one large eye in it's wing while the forest typically have multiple smaller (still large) eyes.

There will always be one on watch and two ready to buy some time for the others. They almost never fight amongst themselves, even in times of famine. Extremely family orientated they are known to help sick and injured deceivers, and allow elderly dragons to remain where they often act as babysitters in snoggeltog. They spend a good part of their day cleaning themselves, focusing heavily on the "eyes"

They are fairly smart dragons, being able to outsmart their predators and keep up with nadders as well.

Dragon Stats:

attack:7

speed:14

armor: 14

firepower: 9

shot limit: 5

venom: 11

jaw strength: 5

stealth :10

Introducing the Acidic ScuttleSting!

(Amazing picture by NightmareRebuff! However, the idea was mine) ;)

Class: Mystery (however a possible candidate for boulder class)

Habbitat: Deep, deep caves.

Info: It's been theorized that Acidic ScuttleStings haven't seen the light of day for thousands of years! This mysterious dragon is know to lurk in deep cave systems, and has not been seen on the surface alive. From what's been observed, these dragons are equal oppurtunity scavengers, known to feast on whatever they can find (or lure) into the depths of their nest. They primarily eat other dragons that they lure into their hunting grounds, however they usually hunt alone and then bring back whatever they find to their nest. It is thought they live in swarms, and that there may be a "queen" at the heart of the nest, however no viking has ventured into those dark depths and returned to tell the tale! We think they communicate through special clicks to eachother, that can be heard echoing down the tunnels whenever you're near a group of them. These odd dragons have a uncommon ability- they can retract their tails into their bodies. This gives them the element of surprise for any predators or prey, by what looks like a stinger at the back of their bodies, can actually lunge out at terrifying speeds and sting them at any momment. Despite this advantage, there's a reason why their tails are usually retracted. In order for them to retract, they do not have scales on their tails, making them very sensitive and soft compared to the rest of their bodies. If ever fighting one, aim for the tail. A medium-sized scratch can put them in enough pain to back off, or, if you're unlucky, make them angry. Either way, it's the best strategy we've come up with. These dragons are very aggressive, however they're clever enough to allow prey and dragons to wander into their territory, considering it just means more meals for them. However, they have a great curiousity for the outside world, and react positively to new smells or sounds. This could be helpful for any ambitious dragon trainers who want to tame one of these rare and mysterious beasties!

Unlike what you may think, these dragons are blind. Those "eyes" at the front of its snout are actually false eyes, and instead are small, delicate bubbles of acid. This is extrememly useful against predators, for if said predator tried to blind it, they'd be met with a searing pain in their "paw" from acid burning through it. Not to mention, as a defense mechanisim ScuttleStings can burst these at will. Despite being "blind" in the usual sense, these dragons make up for it with an extrememly good sense of smell and hearing, and it's been recorded that they are effected by certain types of light, which begs the question "How?" and right now, we have no idea. These dragons also share an ability with geckos- in the sense that they have those special pads under their feet that allow them to climb virtually anything! Which also brings their lure tactic into effect. An Acidic ScuttleSting will more often than not be on the ceiling above their prey, letting their lure dangle down to catch their prey's eye. Unfortunately, this tactic is especially effective on younger dragons who have an overactive sense of curiousity, and is the reason why certain dragons avoid cave systems altogether if they've had a bad experience with their hatchlings getting stolen. Acidic Scuttlestings, as you may have guessed, can produce a highly corrosive acid from their mouths, which they use to melt tunnel systems and to defend themselves. They're often seen drooling it. It is unkown what it is about Acidic Scuttlestings that makes their markings glow, however more and more research is being made about these dragons. And, now that vikings are assisted by dragons of their own, more information about these dragons may come to light very soon!

(which basically means, I may edit their description. But please! Feel free to comment on my Acidic Scuttlestings!)

THIS DRAGON IS ABSOLUTELY AWSEOME!

It's head reminds me of a Lantern Fish, and it's fake eye thing is pretty awesome.

You should make adoptables out of this (With credit to NightmaerReBuff).

Realism: A six-limbed, acid-drooling creature that can retract its tail would never be possible in the real world- at least not naturally, anyway. But since it's dragons we're talking about, realism doesn't really matter, does it? I'd say it gets an 8.

Comments:

Love how there are "false eyes" to defend themselves that's a really cool feature. So the best strategy is to cut off the dragon's tail? What about the wings?

Also dows the lure glow at all? How does it attract the young?

They are very cool though I'd probably do the smart thing and keep my distance hahaha. :D

Acidic Scuttlestings actually don't use their wings very often, which suggests why they're very delicate and frail looking. ;)

Yep, the lure glows. Imagine a young child being drawn by a firefly, it's like that. ;)

The Deathly Painstabber (No

The Deathly Painstabber

(No colored version yet.)

Class: Fear

The only Fear dragon that doesn't have multiple heads, the Painstabber doesn't appear to fit in this class at first glance. It appears that Boulder, Sharp, or Mystery would be a more suitable class. But this dragon has struck fear in the hearts of Vikings for years.

The Deathly Painstabber usually slithers around on the ground, using its arms to pull itself forward. When attacking, Deathly Paintstabbers will use the middle of their tail for support and rear up, using their arms to bash, slash, and grapple with opponents while using the venomous stinger at the end of its tail to try and inject enemies with poison.

This dragon's armor is made of bones, but not in the same way Boneknappers' is. It's actually horns made of bone on the outside of the dragon's skin, covering its weak scales and blows from its owm stinger.

Painstabbers' stingers are filled with a poison commonly known as Nervesong. This poison is not deadly in the way your normal poison is. This poison increases your sensitivity to pain, making pressure feel like pain and pain feel like complete agony. This dragon's favorite method of attacking is to strike opponents with its tail and slowly torture them.

These dragons are not very good in air, as they have small wings and large bodies. Their bodies usually just hang in the air below them while they try and use their stingers. These dragons are also weak to sunlight, as they spend most of their time in roofed forests or caves. These dragons are also blind.

An interesting fact about Painstabber's is that they do not have noses. Yes, those things on its snout are not nostrils. Those are extremely similar to the pits of a snake. They let this dragon see thermally. Instead of 'seeing' in normal color, these blind dragons detect thermal heat and use that to track their prey.

this is long overdue but just

this is long overdue but just finally got some free time I can finish this up, does this fell into the radioactive dragon categoly, idk

so here it is my newest fan dragon

The Slackerish Sluggish

Class: Strike

Attack: 8

Speed: 4

Armor: 3

Firepower: 30

Shot limit: 10

Venom:0

Jaw strength: 8

Stealth: 5

First thought to be a varie of Hotburple-Quaken hybrid, not only these dragons are even lazier than them but they are amoung the rarest of the dragon too. Those that discovered them had given them very confusing mix reputations; the slowest strike class dragon and the fastest dragon ever.

Inside the sluggishs hold so much energies that when hovering they can used the surrounding particle and help from the vibration of their beating wings to pull it in a teleport-like-speed in a short distance. While the Sluggishs definitely could not beat other dragon in the ordinary flight, their's teleport-like ability allow them to give the threats an element of surprise or used it to dodge the attack which is very convineint for them being very vanuerable to an attack. The truth is, the sluggishs hide is amoung the strongest, in order to hold all the energy however one attack to the hide might be enough to cause the damage and let lose the energy and cause the brutal end to both sluggish an their enemies, this and much need rest is the prices the sluggish paid for this much power.

Personality: Lax and sleepy on the outside, cautious for possible harm all the time on the inside though very well hiden.

Firetype: lesser Atomic charge

Hidden ability: Similar to Night fury, Sluggishs have their 'titan' form cause charging up all their energy, rid of their fats and given them more menece form. They are even more vanuerable to the attack more in this form from loewer their shield but it given them move speed and firepower that they need

Here it is, I'm not counting on many originality because honestly, this came from a titan hotburple-quaken with the touch of skrill power. but I like the idea that I want to make it into its own species. The bottle/trunk like nose was for it to look like those witch or monster in the myth so there's a hint of them being scary even in there slug/bear/sea lion/sloth cuddly form.

nice!

I just gotta say it: When I read the class was strike I laughed out loud! Seriously though, why not boulder or mystery class?

Seems like a cool design, interesting fire and means of locomotion. Their faces kinda look like pigs from angry birds. It seems like Grump and these guys would be good friends.

I didn't put them in boulder

I didn't put them in boulder because they don't eat or have anything to do with rocks, plus imagine a quaken size dragon appeared out in the thin air without warning and blast me in the face with energy beams i think classified them in strike would be more fitting, after all in their 'titan' form they can 'teleport' continously so now they can join the fast dragon club.

Although i don't know why mystery class has never cross my mind...and the fact that they classified the swimable, ice blasting, not a rock eater gronicle in boulder class might means that the sluggish is still suitable for bouldEr class too but i think i'm still going to keep the sluggish in the strike, beside, that's acrually the general reaction i want when people read that they're strike XD

The Daggerdrake: basically a smilodon/gorgonopsid dragony thing

I agree! This thread was a lot of fun, I just love seeing, and especially reading about, people's creations.

I made this one for a story I'm writing: I was doodling, and it came out kind of like my dragon, so I made it all the way.

I like how it turned out, though the squiggly pattern kind of interferes with the curves on its back, and the head is a bit smaller than what I was aiming for. I did better than usual on its feet, though. :D

Anyway, so far I'm calling it the Daggerdrake.

Description: The Daggerdrake is a monstrously large creature that is a little smaller than an Asian elephant. It is classified as a drake, obviously: it is a reptile with dragon or dinosaur like legs (holding the body up in a vertical position) but no wings, and has a thick body with robust limbs, as well as a small head armed with a set of daggerlike fangs. The daggerdrake's hunting technique involves no stealth or precision, and thus they can come in several colors.

Habitat: Daggerdrakes prefer temperate and hot climates, and are fairly common on praries, savannahs, and deserts.

Diet: They are obligate carnivores, and require a vast supply of meat to sustain them. Their preferred foods include deer, antelope, buffalo, and most other large herd animals.

Daggerdrakes are slower and less manueverable than their prey, but they can run for extremely long distances without tiring. They use brute force to tackle prey, inflicting serious damage to vital arteries and organs with their gigantic teeth. Daggerdrakes also target prey from a distance using their excellent senses of sight and smell.

Social: These creatures are solitary, with wide-ranging territories that they will defend from other Daggerdrakes mercilessly. They breed in autumn, and females are live-bearers, having anywhere from one to five offspring by spring. They are precocial, and start learning to hunt after a few months. Within two years, the mother will aggressively force them out of her territory to live on their own.

Temperament: They can be quite territorial, especially among their own kind, but daggerdrakes are usually fairly laidback. The fact that they are large enough to see humans as prey means that a hungry daggerdrake can quickly become a hazard.

Domestication: They are wild animals, and are very dangerous creatures who aren't at all concerned with humans unless they are eating them. However, it is possible to tame them, although the result is typically an unreliable, unpredictable drake that can still be quite dangerous if provoked. Drakes born in captivity, especially in menageries or from daggerdrake breeders, tend to be better pets. They are usually used as mounts or hunting dogs, but the quantities of meat they require make them a poor choice compared to other animals.

Name: Stains
Species: Fast Track
Class: Tracker
The Fast Track, are skilled hunters. Its claws are strong enough to help it climb trees or slopes without using the wings. Stealthy, intelligent, fast and strong, this dragon can be the nightmare of hunters. Their type of fire is a common fireball, but they have a flammable saliva that can last for days.
Usually they are always active, even when they sleep they listen to every sound to be prepared for an emergency, their whiskers are extremely sensitive that even in the air, nothing can surprise them (even a Changewing).
Their weaknesses are typical of many dragons (eels, blue oleander, dragon root). The only one left of his kind, I have it, that is call it Stains.

My own dragons

These are my own dragons:

Name: bladescale
Class: sharp
Features: sharp golden scales, sword-like horn on nose, four missile-like wings
Dimension: medium (15-20 meters)
Physical appearance:
this dragon has a feline body structure and is recovered of sharp golden scales. It has a big horn on nose, it's eyes are red and have vertical pupils, and it's head resembles that of a crocodile. His tail is long and whip-like. It has four finless wings, shaped as spines, that are retracted on the body when they aren't used.
Abilities:
Sharp scales: this dragon uses its razor scales for both attack and protection, cutting other dragon's skin when it attacks or is attacked. This is because when it is fighting erects its scales that make a sharp defense from physical attacks
Sword fighting: using its horn this dragon is able to fight the opponent and cut it in pieces. It is even able to disarm a viking fighting him in a duel
Firepower: this dragon cannot shoot fire, instead it shoots its scales
Speed and agility: thanks to its powerful legs and body structure this dragon can run fast and do sharp turns as big jumps, making it one of the few dragons that can fight speed stingers on ground
Jet flying: using its wings this dragon can fly as a jet, indeed its wings shoot a powerful fire blast based on kerosene. This type of flight is very manouverable other than fast: moving in different direction the wings allows the bladescale to do sharp turns, fly back and stay on air without move. This ability can also be useful in battle, for example to dash against other dragons
Tail whip: the long tail of the bladescale can be used as a whip to smack opponents
Behavior and personality:
The bladescale is the alpha Predator of its territory, and it will hunt everything able to fight. Indeed it is ferocious and recentless, but it will never fight against wounded opponents. This is because it has a great sense of honor and glory, the most important ideals of the bladescale.
This dragon is also vain, as the other sharp class dragons, and takes cure of its physical appearance
Weaknesses:
More than blue oleander, dragon root and eels, the main weakness of the bladescale is its honor. Indeed it will never use bad tricks to win, and espects the same from the opponent. This makes it vulnerable at traps or hidden abilities like poison or paralyzing substances
Training:
Train this dragon is hard but not impossible. First of all you have to approach harmless or it will fight you. Then you need to prove your honor doing true actions and fighting with it against its enemies. A thing that would help is give the dragon a mirror or a reflecting surface, it will make the bladescale very happy and ferociusless

Name: Slenderwing
Class: both Stoker and Strike
Dimensions: big (20-30 meters)
Features: total dark scales, long snake-like neck, slender wings double longer than body, four red-glowing eyes
Physical appearance:
This big dragon is totally black, except for its red-glowing eyes and white teeth and talons. Its chest is slender as its tail, but its four legs are muscled and strong. It's wings are slender and are double longer than the body. Its neck is as long as the tail and its head resembles that of an anaconda with a horn on nose and two gazelle-like horns behind eyes
Abilities:
Firepower: the Slenderwing shoots a powerful concentrated blast of fire similar to a laser blast. This blast is so hot that it can melt rocks, and can knock away enemies while it hits them. Also this blast can be used from great distance (100 meters) thanks to its precision
Flying: thanks to its particular wings this dragon can fly at extremely high speed (it's faster than a night fury) and make sharp turns and pitches. In small spaces this dragon can fold its wings and fly slower, but can still manoveur as normal
Speed and agility: thanks to its powerful legs this dragon can run and climb as jump and swim. Actually the Slenderwing prefers flying, so it's hard to see it walking unless it is hunting
Strength and combat: this dragon is one of the most powerful in ground fighting. It can use all the parts of its body to knock its opponent. Its main attack is biting the opponent and then smash them on the ground, but it can also hit them with tail, wings and the old teeth and talons
Eye vision: thanks to its four eyes the Slenderwing can see everywhere all the moments, and a single look of them can immobilize dragons as the red death ones
Behavior and personality:
The Slenderwing is the reaper and hitman of the dragon world. Killing is its profession and passion, and the only way to get a partner. Indeed a female Slenderwing chooses a male one just if it killed more than 5 dragons.
The Slenderwing doesn't attack if it isn't called. Indeed dragons that want other dragons died can contact them and ask for help in change of food. This is because this dragon doesn't profane its victims body eating them, even if it is a possible prey. It thinks that death is holy and buries its victims after killing them. The Slenderwing is highly intelligent, indeed it understands importance of death and funeral
Weacknesses: eels, dragon root, it is highly sensible at blue oleander
Training: train this dragon is difficult because it requires a lot of time. First you have to approach it with food and feed it, then just hunt and give it preys every day. After a week it will trust and follow you, and even defend you. After a moth the bond is completely created and the Slenderwing considers you as a partner for life. It will always take care and defend you and even it will kill to give you its preys for food. It will also want to play and fight you for training, and if you teach it new useful skills you will make it over the sky
