I know this probably isn't the place to be posting computer stuff on a 'kids game'. But I know some people that play are very tech savvy.  I had posted before about sod using too much CPU on my computer causing the fan to drive itself crazy. But now, I am having overheating problems.

On one corner of my MacBook (usually the right side on the top of the keyboard) would get fairly warm. If I lift it up (again on the right corner) it is also fairly warm. Its never on the left side, which is always cool no heat generating from it. But once I open sod my fan either doesn't start at all or goes absolutely crazy. Anyone else having this issue?

Note: Also, the computer itself works completely fine. Sometimes it would get a bit slow or take some time to load programs but other than that I have no issue with the performance.

Reasons behind my name change:

I've fallen much too far in the Yuri On Ice fandom lol. That's the best explanation that I can give to you. Also for those of you who aren't too familiar with YOI, Katsudon is a popular Japanese dish. Mostly called Pork Cutlet Bowl. This dish consists of, fried pork, rice, and cabbage. In the anime, Yuri on Ice Yuri Plisetsky gave Yuuri the nickname Katsudon/Debu (debu means fatso). Hope this explains my name change. >3

How do you use your laptop? If you're using it on your lap or a blanket or something similar: don't! They're not really made for that, in spite of being called 'laptops'. Make sure that the laptop stands on a solid surface and that the air flow isn't being blocked.

If you're already doing that, then...

I'm guessing that your laptop was able to regulate heat before this, right? If yes, it might be due for a bit of cleaning. Dust and dirt tends to accumulate inside the heatsink/fans over time, so any laptop can benefit from a good 'vacuum & blow' every couple months. If you own something like an air generator, you're set! If not, it doesn't cost much to get a laptop cleaned/blown out at a computer store.

I'm not very mac-savvy, but I'm sure that there's software out there that can measure the temperatures. Maybe it'd be a good idea to measure your temps and see how hot everything really is. The temps might not be too bad-- but it could also be dangerous, so it's good to know for sure!

Hi, I always use my MacBook on a hard surface. Like tile or the island kitchen. But whenever I am using my MacBook on the couch I always use a lap desk with my laptop on it. Yes, the vents on my MacBook tend to get a bit dusty sometimes. I was told using compressed air or unscrewing the bottom of it and dusting off the fan carefully helps it. But haven't tried it myself yet. But thank you for the recommendation of taking it to get cleaned.

I also have a program installed that says what temperature it is at. Anything higher than 70 celsius is bad for it. Not multitasking, using youtube, google chrome, facebook. All at once makes it burn itself. Apparently. But, for some reason, once I open sod my fan is slightly loud. Which gets antagonizing in quiet places.

If you have a compressed air generator (a decently strong one, but not one that could blow the keys off your keyboard),use it! The best way is to blow the air right into the vent/heatsink and keyboard until dust stops coming out. If you can open the laptop for more thorough cleaning, that's definitely a plus.

Yeah if it's already running at 70c while it's sorta idling, that's bad. I think that a good blowing could make that problem a lot less worse. I'd steer clear from heavier software until then (SoD is very heavy on the cpu for some reason) in case the overheating does any damage to your hardware and stuff.

Low graphics card=bad gaming performance. MacBooks need babyproofing sadly. I always check it’s activity monitor to see how much cpu it’s using. I force quit which ever uses to much and play sod on a cool-hard surface. I had heard, that the normal temperature is about 70c. But anything higher than that is bad for it. Mostly it stays around 68c.

And the compressed air, isn’t it usually used to clean off keyboards? I don’t really know what it’s meant for. But the one I have is highly flammable and comes in a white can with a long red straw where the air comes out of it. I just don’t want to clean my MacBook pro with the wrong materials.

If you use an integrated GPU then yeah, your CPU's gonna have a very difficult time running games like SoD. One chip's responsible for both processing and graphics, and I know that SoD takes up a lot of power.

It really depends on the setup whether something is too hot or not. Some CPUs can easily reach 95 degrees at max power and still be fine. I'd say that a laptop has much lower limits regarding heat, as they generally have poor heat regulation. 70 degrees always felt like too much for a laptop while the current GPU in my desktop pc is running at 73c, which is completely fine for the make & case.

Ohh you have some canned air? You could use it for the fans, but you'd have to be careful. That stuff is pretty strong and could break your fan by making it spin too hard if you're not careful. Make sure not to spray it directly into the fan, and to use small bursts. Just aim it at the intake/vent and go! I've used it for my desktop myself since I don't always have access to a compressor.
