On the Subject of Hackers

please read this link, it helps to identify the different types of hackers. I have hacked computers, and servers in the past (despite not being the best at code) but I never do it for personal gain. Unfortunately the hackers most people refer to on the internet are crackers so they bring a bad light on the hacking community in general. I only learned to hack code because I needed to in order to hack my microwave and other software in my house.

Don't be a Cracker you ruin it for everyone!

Festival of Light

Festival of Light
Prologue

Taking place between the time when Garth first met Riptide (Fall of Izar: Chapter 7) and when Garth and RIptide are formally made a dragon rider pair (Fall of Izar: Chapter 8) the Festival of Light was a festival that happened every time Arvendale's Fire graced Izar.

Part 1: Scensoredurfing

“IT’S ALMOST HERE! IT’S STARTS TONIGHT! I’M CAN’T WAIT!”

“What’s so exciting Tholme?” Val asked

“Well every 5 years Arvendale’s fire lights up the sky in brilliant fashion, and in the week before it happens THERE’S THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHT!” Tholme was jumping up and down, wide eyed like a kid on Snoggletog. But then again the Festival of Light was definitely something you didn’t want to miss. No one forgets their first Festival of Light, it’s a weeklong celebration where lanterns are hung, fireworks go off over the bay, food stalls line the streets and tournaments of different kinds abound. But the most amazing part is the auroras keep going on all through the day and night, if day and night were there to begin with. The week of Arvendale’s fire has no sunlight instead all the light is created with torches, candles, auroras, and dragons.

“Well I’d better start practicing for the Scensoredurfing Competition.” I added

“What’s Scensoredurfing?” Val inquired.

Everyone, even Saga, asked her at the same time, “You’ve been here for five years and you have no idea what Scensoredurfing is!”.

I responded “I’m surprised you don’t know what it is Val. But I’m sure you’ll love it”.

Everyone gathered in front of the great hall that evening for the festival to start. The six chiefs came out of the great hall and the Chief of Iskyn stepped up to the thundervoice.

He started,” This week we celebrate our rich history and hope for a prosperous future LET THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHT BEGIN!” The crowd roared in applause as Night Furies, Zipplebacks, and other dragons shot their fire at the sky to create a massive fireworks display, even Ayre and Dance joined in.

Later that night we flew Ayre & Dance up to Perun’s Peak and began unload our equipment. Five parachutes, Five skyboards, a simulation rig, 5 pairs of boots and bindings. We were set.

“Ok you have to control the sky board by leaning to one side or the other. This device will help you get a feel for skyboarding. lean left to go left, right to go right, forward to go forward and back to slow down. It’s just like surfing.” I explained.

Soon Val, Tholme, Sif, Saga, and I got suited up. Ayre and Dance took us higher than the tallest peaks of Izar and we jumped off the zippleback. As soon as we did I felt the air under my board and we started falling towards the ground, the skyboard acting as a wing. Then the auroras came, Val, Saga, and I took time to surf beside each other riding the air currents and marveling at the majesty of it all.

“It’s beautiful” Saga was wide eyed and had her breath taken away as a meteor shower passed overhead.

“It’s amazing” Val was clearly enjoying herself as we all held hands and tried to to a synchronized flip, which lead to a tumble and us flying upside down. we spun and flipped ourselves back up the right way as we soared past Tholme and Sif. who were dancing together in the sky holding hands and moving the boards in almost perfect sync.

As the we passed the middle of the mountain we deployed our parachutes and landed in the field. I went back up for another practice run, Val joined me. We flew Ayre & Dance to the clouds, “race you to the finish”, Val chuckled.

“Gladly” I smiled and we jumped off the zippleback.

Val and I went into a nosedive to gain speed and I pulled into a ravine as we neared the edge of the mountain while Val pulled up and went over the obstacle. I took a shortcut through the Needle’s Eye and beat Val to the finish line where Tholme was waiting for us.

“Where are the girls” Val asked Tholme.

“They went to see a Singing Terrible Terror show” Tholme replied

“A singing Terrible Terror show?” I asked, “what fun is that!”

Part 2: Midnight Mystery
(Sif’s POV)

“That show was great!” I laughed.

“Did you see that one that tried to copy half the chorus!” Saga replied laughing as well.

“Hey look there’s an Ice sculpture contest do you want to enter it?” I said

“Sure why not Sif?” Saga replied.

We went up to the viking manning the entryway and asked to enter for the contest. He let us in and we called our Terrible Terrors, Fusion and Treetop, to help us with the work.

As we were working on the sculpture of a mythical dragon known as a Grapple Grounder, a dragon no one had seen in the past 150 years and was only documented once, an object fell out of the sky. BAM! The object hit the ice sculpture and it shattered into a million pieces

“The sculpture!” I cried out loud. From where the sculpture had stood a moment ago I saw Grunt frozen in a block of ice. Treetop immediately started blasting Grunt hoping to once again set him on fire but all that did was melt the ice. Soon Grunt was free and he was shivering. Over clacking teeth, shivering, and a shaking voice Grunt spoke, “y-you w-won’t b-be-lieve w-what I j-j-just saw”.

“What!” both me and Saga asked the shivering Grunt.

“I’m gonna tame it!” a voice rang out

“NO I AM!” another voice rang out, if there’s one more.

“NO IAM!” a third breached the silence. It was the Triplets and they were fighting again.

“What are you going to tame!” Saga yelled at them.

They responded in unision, “The three headed Zippleback and the Flightmare that’s headed to Niori!”

We stopped what we were doing, if that Zippleback blows up the mines then the island was done for. We ran towards Niori.

Part 3: Niori Nightmare

(Emerald’s POV)

We ran to Niori, it was dark during the time of Arvendale’s fire so we carried torches with us from Izar. After convincing Grunt to let us take the lead, since we know this place better than the non-miners, we descended into the tunnels of the mining island.

It was dark, damp, and smelly, the usual on this island. The only way to navigate these tunnels was if you’ve lived here or if you have a map, and even then since the tunnels changed all the time maps didn’t work as well. The three of us lived in the mines for years so we knew the tunnels by heart.

“Which way should we go?” Sif asked.

“Where do you think they went?” I asked.

“They looked like they went to the top of the island”, Saga replied.

“Then there’s only one way there”, we responded. I hated when my sisters said the same things as I did and at the exact same time nonetheless. I really wanted to punch Ruby in the face and I could sense Jade wanted to torch Firebolt, but now wasn’t the time for arguing.

“I sure wish we had dad’s Snafflefang!”, Sapphire shouted.

“yeah it would make things a lot easier”. I replied.

We continued running up the spiraling tunnel to the top and ran into a hatch. We stopped as Val, Saga and Grunt caught up to us.

“What do we do? We can’t open the door!” Saga, Val, me and my two sisters sat down to think but before we could think of anything.

“Step aside!” Grunt shouted as he backed up and we did since we knew what was coming. Grunt roared and charged through the solid iron gate as if it were nothing. Despite his obvious lack of a brain it seemed like he had quite a bit of muscle.

“Well that solves our problem”, Ruby smirked.

We took a shortcut to the top through an old mining elevator that was just beyond the hatch. Ten minutes later and we were at the top of the mountain and surrounded by gas. We covered our mouths with our shirts and slowly approached the dragons. As he got close Grunt dived at the Flightmare and pinned it to the ground. The Flightmare was out of action for now, I started to get closer to a dragon head.

“Ow watch where you’re going!” the dragon yelled, oops it was Ruby.

“Um sis I hate to break it to you but, I think it’s on top of us” Sapphire spoke from beside me. We all looked up.

The zipple was right on top of us, and we each decide to take a head. Ruby went for the red one, I went for the green one and Sapphire went for the blue one.

“It’s ok Clover”, I said naming the green head, “just calm down we’re not here to hurt you”. If only I actually listened in Lyra’s class maybe I could’ve actually been able to speak dragonese! I tried to calm it down, and my sisters were trying to with their respective heads.

“You have to work together”, Saga called out, “everything with a zippleback should be done at the same time otherwise you’ll fail!”. Me and my sisters got the message, we would have to work together, through the thick gas, without making the zipple spark. As much as I would love to see Ruby and Sapphire hidein a giant explosion, I didn’t want to hidewith them.

We synced our movements as best as we could. At the same time we pulled dragon nip from our pouches and offered it to each of our heads. Then at the exact same time we reach out our hands, slowly averted our gaze, out stretched our palms, and I felt the scaly head of the dragon on my hand. I turned and looked into it’s eyes. It was happy but worried, and it’s look told me everything.

“Mjolnir’s gonna erupt!” my sisters and I screamed at once. As a gust of wind blew the gas off the summit of the mountain I saw Grunt riding the glowing red Flightmare and Tholme being carried to Mjolnir by Flightmares.

Part 4: Hammer of Thor

(Tholme’s perspective.)

Garth and Val left for another practice run on Ayre and Dance. Garth really looks like he wants to win the tournament. I decided to go to the market where there was food, I got some grilled halibut, lamb on a stick, oranges, and deep fried potato slices for breakfast. One of the best parts of the Festival of Light was the food, the best cooks from every island would come to show off their skills and if they weren’t competing in late night cooking contests, which I went to a few, they were either enjoying the festival or cooking up food to sell in the market. Some of the craziest ideas came from the Battledome where cooks could bring their own spices but had to use the equipment on site. Yesterday someone went, froze and then flavored yak milk with chocolate, who knew it would be so tasty! he called it ice cream and the judges loved it. The only catch to the Battledome is that there was only 2 of everything, except for fire pits, and there were more than 2 cooks. Being vikings weapons were allowed in the Battledome and you had to not only cook but fight other cooks that wanted to use the equipment at the same time, I heard someone lost an arm recently. After gorging myself with food I headed off to help my mom paint her Flightmare, Aurora, for the Warpaint contest and ride Aurora in the race later today.

I got to the field where the Flightmares were being painted and quickly helped my mom with Aurora’s paint. My mom had made a special paint that was partially transparent and would glow with the flightmare changing it’s color.

The paint had dried and I decided to take Aurora for a practice run but as soon as I mounted her, she and every single Flightmare in the area took off towards Mjolnir their brilliant light causing the sky to nearly blind me. A pack of Woolly Howls, then a pod of scauldrons and tide gliders joined us.

As we passed by Niori I saw Sif, the Triplets and Saga riding a three headed Zippleback, that couldn’t be right. Grunt was riding a glowing red Flightmare

“Tholme!” I heard Sif call me.

“Sif what’s going on?” I shouted back

“It’s Mjolnir! It’s going to erupt!” She yelled back.

I was horrified, Mjolnir was my home, sure it was built on top of an active volcano but the the volcano hadn’t had a major eruption in recorded history. It’s been the lifeblood of blacksmiths on Izar for centuries, feeding the furnaces of our industry with heat and minerals from deep within the earth. The volcano had brought for us prosperity beyond what we thought was possible, to think of it erupting and destroying the entire island was a sobering thought.

“THOLME!” Sif yelled from under me, “GET ON THE ZIPPLEBACK!”

I jumped off Aurora and onto the three headed zippleback that was being steered by the triplets. Grunt had gone back to Izar to warn the chiefs of what was happening. The glow of the Flightmares circling the volcano was intense their multicolored light shining like a beacon.

“Look at what the dragons are doing!”, I shouted, “they’re trying to freeze the volcano! You three get me on the ground!”

The triplets complied, for once, and I ran up the side of the volcano where I found a wild gronckle who I asked to help me with the issue. The gronckle allowed me to ride it and round up more gronckles while the flightmares, Woolly howls, Tide Gliders, and scauldrons tried to tame Mjolnir, soon I was in command of 25 gronckles. The volcano, despite the best efforts of the dragons, was on the brink of overflowing.

“Hey you three it’s time to do some emergency landscaping!”, I told the triplets and pointed to a location near the rim of the caldera,”I want you to take the zippleback and on my signal blow a hole in the side of Mjolnir. near the top of the caldera.” I yelled to my platoon of gronckles ”ALL GRONCKLES FIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE VOLCANO!”

Lava blasts came thundering out of the sky as the volcanic rock slowly dented and formed into a massive channel that led away from the forges and into the ocean. I signaled the triplets to blast a hole in the side of the caldera. They had already gassed the area really throughly so the resulting explosion was earth shattering, it was far bigger than any normal zippleback explosion I had every seen and the lava started to flow down the steep chute and into the sea.

Disaster had been averted, as I took one last look at the caldera to make sure the lava wasn’t going to destroy the forges I saw a small island had appeared in the center of the lava.

“Barrel, get me closer to that island”, I told my gronckle.

As we got closer i could see the small pedestal was made from crystal and on top of it was a hammer made with crystal and Gronkle Iron. Somehow it seemed as if the weapon was calling to me, I flew Barrel closer to the hammer and picked both the hammer and the pedestal, we flew out of the volcano and back to Izar.

Part 5: Market Mayhem

(Kaya’s POV)

“Garth’s been in his workshop for the past three days! It’s the Festival of Light and he’s been inside the house for three days!” I screamed with frustration at Ayre and Dance hoping they were listening to me. Nope, that zippleback of mine was sleeping with one head and looking for food with the other, two headed efficiency at it’s finest. The scensoredurfing competition was today and hopefully it would all work out. Garth said he was building a new board but he’s missed out on so much of the festival. He even missed the fireworks off of Iskyn, the Aurum Harvest Race, and even Val’s entry into Wargames where teams of vikings were pitted against each other with all sorts of weapons. The goal of the game was to successfully take the other team’s flag in any way possible the weapons aren’t lethal but it's still scary. This absence from the Festival normally isn’t like him but then again he really wants to win the scensoredurfing competition so I have to hand it to him. After making breakfast I walked outside and bumped to Saga who was cold as ice, her eyes wide in fear, and hiding behind an elderberry bush.

“There’s a giant monster in the town square! We have no Idea what it is! It looks like a huge six eyed boulder class dragon and it’s setting fire to everything! But all of our attacks are missing it! It’s like it’s a ghost! And Val’s been eaten!” Saga said as her teeth chattered terrified.

“Ayre, Dance we’re going to town square!” I yelled at the heads in the pantry, “and while you’re at it bring my axe and my shield!. My Zippleback briefly nosed their heads into the weapons rack to get my stuff and we took off to the skies as Saga ran inside frightened of what she had seen.

As i got closer to the town square i saw it, the Beast was huge, it had four legs, wings, six eyes, a neck frill, red spikes all over it and a huge club like tail. the triplets had also come with their three headed zippleback, Rose, Clover, and Petunia. Before I even made a move the triplets dove in and circled the Beast with gas and the light it. It did nothing, but i noticed something peculiar the Beast was attacking things that weren’t there, it’s fire didn’t leave scorch marks on the hills, and “VAL!” I screamed as I dove towards her, she was under the Beast, Ayre and Dance dodged a fire blast as big a longship, did a roll, and picked up Val from under the Beast. The Beast’s fire didn’t have heat.

“How are you alive, Saga said you’d been eaten” I asked Val

“Kaya it’s not a monster it’s just an illusion, when i was inside the “Beast” I didn’t see anything”, Val responded, “it’s really weird.”

We landed beside the Beast and decided to take a look around. Ayre and Dance found a sleeping Terrible Terror that they decided to play with as vikings ran around and tried to defend themselves from the illusion under the cover of darkness. As the chaos was raging on I saw a flash of light coming from between Ayre and Dance. I realized the dragon they were playing with was not a Terrible Terror but instead a Ghastly Horror.

“Put that dragon down!” I yelled to my Zippleback and after looking at me for a few seconds dropped the Horror. It woke up and the Beast’s leg disappeared.

“The Beast must be a nightmare the Horrors are having! Since Ghastly Horrors communicate via telepathy and have crystals on their heads that project holograms the Beast is really just a figment of their nightmares!” I yelled at Val

“So now we just have to wake up the other Horrors!” Val yelled back

Ghastly Horrors were dragons that had a sleek head with a crystal on their forehead and one antenna coming out of the top of their head that extended back like the top spike of a Nadder’s head. Though they were roughly the same size and shape as Terrible Terrors they lacked the front set of legs that Terrors had, instead they walked on their wings like Monstrous Nightmares. These dragons use holograms to hunt their prey and scare off predators while operating in packs.

We got to work trying to find the other Horrors, one was in a barrel under the hologram, another was sleeping on top of a doorway, a third was sleeping on a pile of hay. The “Beast” had mostly disappeared, all that was left was its head, body, and wings.

“Where’s the rest of the Horrors?” Val asked

“No idea!” I replied, “Ayre, Dance blast the plaza!”

With two grins and two nods my Zippleback created an explosion that would wake up a sleeping Buffalord and the “Beast” vanished.

“What was that?” I asked to no one in particular.

“Whatever it is I don’t want to see it again, ever.” Val replied, exhausted from running around so much.

Part 6: Arvendale’s Fire

(Garth's POV)

I just finished the board, it was sleek in it’s own right the V shaped tail fins were adjustable and the main wings with adjustable wingtips would provide better handling at when going fast. Tonight was the last night of the Festival of Light and I had fine tuned that skyboard better than ever. The sky was clear enough that you could see the stars, the northern lights, and all was being set for one of the most anticipated events of the festival. In this race everyone will have two dragons following them, a Ghastly Horror, so that everyone in the stadium can see what was going on in the race. A larger Horror was able to create bigger holograms and would display what the smaller ones were seeing to the audience in the arena. The second dragon that followed us was our own dragon. Each surfer would ride their own dragon to a certain point and when they heard the horn they would jump off and race to the finish line. The dragons would also lift us up in case we lost too much altitude too quickly.

Soon every contestant was on the back of their dragon and flying up past the few clouds there were in the sky the view was breathtaking, We could see the entire archipelago from up here, the forests of Ishtar, the glistening sunstones of Iskyn that were bathed in the green and purple light from Arvendale’s fire, and finally Izar where lamps and other sources of light hung over the streets. Soon we were over Niori and at our starting positions.

“It looks so small from up here doesn’t it Riptide?” I asked my dragon. It purred and told me to get ready.

A plasma blast lit up the sky and as everyone leaned over the edge of their dragons the sky brightened and after taking a few seconds marvel at the majesty of Arvendale’s fire. The horn blew and everyone jumped off their dragons and headed to Izar. Like every Festival before this one we were to race Arvendale’s Skyway. As everyone made a beeline in the open sky towards the top of Perun’s Peak another surfer tried cutting ahead of me, using my new board I barrel rolled my way around him and beat him to the first gate. At this point I was third out of 20 contestants, as the girl in second and I spiraled our way around the mountain road with scores of cheering vikings shouting from the sidelines, I took the shortcut through the ravine and came out of The Needle’s Eye using a low yoyo flying past the girl to come in second place. There was just one more person to beat, the man currently in first place. It wasn’t long until we got the most challenging part of the race, here we were taken up by our dragons over the bridge connecting Iskyn and Izar just higher than the massive sunstones where we dropped away from our riding dragons who couldn’t follow us into the crystal maze, the man pulled ahead of me as we dashed in between the huge crystal scensoredcrapers of Iskyn that were lit with the psychedelic light of Arvendale’s Fire. I saw a straightaway towards the finish line through the Moonlight Plaza where a huge reflecting pool was glowing with the color of the sky, it was now or never. I folded in my wingtips leaned forward and sped downward to perform another low yoyo and use the ground effect to move faster. The man I had just passed only 5 feet behind me, as we neared the surface of the water the man behind me was gaining and I pulled up out of my downward descent, opened my second set of wings as my opposition was forced to open his parachute I sped along the top of the water to the finish line on a wave of air.

As everyone flew through the finish line they opened their parachutes and landed at the arena, I landed on the platform as the announcer declared, “we have a winner! GARTH BJORNSON OF IZAR!”

LACK LUNASON

(I figure you've probably already figured that out, but I thought I'd play it safe.)

Hi, I'm Lack Lunason. I'm called that because I lack many things, and I'm a lunatic. I just put son on the end to make it sound more like a viking name. I'm also a Christ follower.

Here are just a few things that I am:

  1. A procrastinator.
  2. Nice (mostly).
  3. Kind (don't listen to those that say otherwise).
  4. Adventurous.
  5. Lazy.
  6. A dreamer.
  7. And I'm slightly crazy.

I've been around SoD for a long time. I think I was one of the first thousand to leave Berk and sail to the school. I'm happily part of the bold clan known as POTATO BROTHERS. I have over four-thousand trouphies, although, I don't like racing much. On the other hand, I'm a master farmer.

On the ranking on the forum, I've completed/on the following: Jarl, Forager, Wilderness Explore, Viking Warrior, Dragon Trainer, Drott, Dragon Master, Chief, Berk's Power Player, and......

Sing out loud until you're eaten, song of melancholy bliss....

For the mighty and the middling all shall come to THIS...."

The Green Death, How To Train Your Dragon: book 1. Cressida Cowell.

"WE WILL FIGHT THEM ON THE BEACHES! WE WILL FIGHT THEM IN THE BRACKEN! WE WILL FIGHT THEM IN THOSE BOGGY MARSHY BITS THAT ARE SO DIFFICULT TO WALK THROUGH WITHOUT LOSING YOUR SHOES! WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER!"

Stoick The Vast. How To Train Your Dragon: Book 5. Creessida Cowell.

"I sailed so far to be a King, but the time was never right.....

I lost my way on a stormy past, got wrecked in starless night....

But let my heart be wrecked by hurricanes and my ship by stormy weather....

I know I am a Hero...and a Hero is....FOREVER!

In another time, another place, I could have been a King....

But in my castle's ruined towers the lonely seabirds sing.....

I burned up my Tomorrows, I cannot go back ever....

But I am still a Hero....and a Hero is.......FOREVER!

Up with your sword and strike at the gale......

Ride the rough seas for those waves are your home......

Winters may freeze but our hearts do not fail.....

Heroes.......Hearts......FOREVER!

You are never alone if the sea is your friend......

Riding the waves of impossible quests.....

If it doesn't end well, then it isn't the end.....

A Hero.....Fights.....FOREVER!

The hero cares not for a wild winter's storm.....

For it carries him swift on the back of the wave.....

All may be lost and our hearts may be worn.....

BUT A HERO.....FIGHTS.....FOREVER!"

Grimbeard the Ghastly's Last Song. How To Train Your Dragon: Book 11 and 12. Cressida Cowell.

"That's how we're going to win. Not by fighting what we hate, but by saving what we love."

Rose. Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

That's about it. I give full credit for.....well, everything, to GOD. Have a good day. And, in the words of a Vulcan, "Live long and prosper."

Bye for now!
