I've been wondering how many of you came up with names for your stables, as they could be especially helpful for those of you who have a lot of dragons to house. Besides, we just don't share our stable names nearly as much as our dragons' names, and I'm curious to see how you regard these spaces for them.

It would be especially interesting to hear which two you keep in your main stable. Do you take into account whether the dragons would get along with each other or just put them into stables that suit their needs? And what about those that don't have one corresponding wtih their class?

Streamshield Abode

This used to be called Sparkshield Abode, evidently back when Sparkflare stayed there. Since the main stable is class neutral I always let Bulkshield rest in it, and he was one of my favourite dragons too. After winning a few stables in battle and resolving to consider my Windwalker a member of Strike Class, I brought him out of my Tidal Stable to live in the main one. He is quite content to be Bulk's stall mate as he is only a year younger and can keep the burly powerhouse calm.

Dustys Dragons

my main stable holds the honorable Toothless and i have called it "Dustys Dragons". he shares it with no one.  he is much too possessive to share! (he used to share it with my Snow Wraith until my Snow Wraith got a mate)

i have made it very simple in naming the rest of my stables in that i start off with the type of stable, for instance, if it is a boulder stable? then i start off with, "Boulder Class" "Tidal Class" "Stoker Class", you get the idea, right?

then i add the type of dragon in the stable, example? Strike class, or Sharp class etc...  soooo the name would be:

Boulder Class Strike Stable

now if i have multiples of the same dragon, for example 3 or 4 Thunderdrums, i would put them in the "Tidal Class" stable, then the stable would read:

Tidal Class Thunderdrum Stable

if i have two different kinds of dragon but the same class? then i would label it as the first example. for instance if i have a Windwalker and a Scauldron, i would put them in a "Tidal Class Stable" and it would read:

Tidal Class Stable

if i only have a tidal class stable but have extra boulder class dragons to put in it, then it would read:

Tidal Class Boulder Stable

in the case that i have 3 or more of the same dragon? i would insert the type of dragon:

Tidal Class Gronckle Stable

this way i can find the exact dragon i am looking for (or be really close) without having to search each and every stable!

ps: btw i have shared this system with a few of my SoD friends and they LOVED it!

I just kind of put my dragons wherever there is room ;;

My main stables house my main pals; my thunderdrum and my woolly howl. The rest of my stables aren't really themed and I name them after the dragons I put in there. I do like putting boulder class dragons into boulder stables, but if there's only space elsewhere, I'll put them in there.

Soothing Spring & 2nd Tidal Stable

I love how funny and random the names sound, Varku! It looks like you gave up trying for the "idk my bff jill" one, which is very amusing.

The first two stables I happened to get were both Tidal. The first I named Soothing Spring and it was Streamglide's for a while. But now it's just like a hot tub that my dragons visit once in a while to relax. There is one who stays in the other, and that is Bandit the Armorwing whom I haven't made active since September! His stable is named OOO so I can easily ignore it, just like the dragon itself. After all, he was not really mine in the first place.

My main stable has my first 2 dragons that I ever got in it. My starter dragon, Taffy the deadly nadder and the whispering death you get from a quest whose name is Spike. I never wanted to move them after I got other stables as I like to think they got used to staying there and would have a hard time adjusting to a different stable.

My other stables don't really have specific names. They're just Boulder Stable A, Boulder Stable B, Tidal Stable A, Tidal Stable B, ect. The dragons that don't have stables for their class I just put anywhere although when the Dream stables came out and I got some I moved a lot of the ones who don't have a stable for their class in the dream stables. I actually have written down on a notepad which dragons are in which stable. I know, I know that might be a little weird. XD But it helps me remember where each dragon is at.

Abandoned Amber

My intention for buying this stable was to consider it as Globstract's elaborate nest creation. She is wildly expressive and uses her amber lavishly.

I chose the name Abandoned Amber in part because she was abandoned as a baby, and she likes to be away from other dragons most of the time. This picture strongly represents her tendency to hide amid her crazy architecture. She's extravagant but reclusive. "Abandon" could also refer to her reckless behaviour.

Sparkflare deserved some special treatment for being my oldest dragon and closest companion. I was very happy to win this Stoker Stable for her in battle.

By the way, today is my 3rd anniversary on the forum, so I'll be posting some more pictures to celebrate!

More dragons, new stable names

After all these years, I have some more updates to announce and to show you.

  • Flingshot the Singetail keeps Sparkflare company in the Fiery Furnace

  • Brightslime the Flamewhipper (who is still a baby so far) has Soothing Spring to herself
  • Headvord the Elder Sentinel is in a Boulder Stable which I originally called Old Folks Home
  • Grimpinch the Deathgripper moved into the Abandoned Amber nest with Globstract

  • I recently encountered a glitch that reset my stable names and took all my dragons out, so I seized the opportunity to change a couple of the names as I put them back in. Since Gargle had adopted Grimpinch, another tamed dragon killer like Globstract, I decided to call this stable Cannibals Nest.
  • I also renamed Old Folks Home to Seniors Home

Sparkflare the pyromaniac

My dragon really likes to feel the heat of the lava. She can hardly wait to go back to her birthplace, Dragon Island.

But for now...

Titan Island will have to do!

Here she is in more balanced lighting. I'm so enamoured with her titan wing form! I changed up my pants and boots too, and took the visor off my helmet.

By the way, did I mention it's been exactly 3 ½ years since I found Flare? I had gathered 50 rune stones 4 months ago, but the timing couldn't be better.

Titan Wing Nightmare

Hey guys, I hope you were pleasantly surprised to discover my ulterior purpose for this thread. I was really excited to reveal Sparkflare's transformation. Her skin is much more vibrant now, with a dark blue belly that often looks purple like her main colour. Her spines couldn't get as bright as I was hoping, but it does keep continuity from how they used to be.

Just before raising her to the titan wing stage, I found some reassuring evidence suggesting that the titan Nightmare's in-game model was not as big a stretch from canon as I had thought! At 2:42 in this HtTYD Christmas video, a Monstrous Nightmare in the background is shown to have horns that split into two, much like SoD's titans. (Thank you Whisper for putting a link to this video in your Snoggletog Countdown. Or should I thank Dasher?) It's probably not a titan itself, but this does show the potential for their horns to develop in such a way.

Raising Sparkflare to the next growth stage was the last thing I wanted to do before embarking on the journey to Dragon Island (assuming that Nightmare armour still won't be released for a long time).

All of My Stables

First off, congrats on growing Sparkflare to a Titan Wing, Gorge! I'm glad you're so happy with the results!

(And I passed on your thanks to Dasher. He says you're welcome.)

As for the stables question, my starter stable (or Strike Stable, seeing as it has a Strike Class symbol) holds my two main dragons, the ones I credit to my own Viking OC Whisper. As for the rest of my stables and dragons...I don't really consider stables plot-relevent to my Viking, since they're just holding places for characters that take place throughout Whisper's story, so I mostly just pick names that may or may not be fun but are certainly indicative enough of what dragons are located where. (I mostly used the words "Whisper" and "Wolf" to name the first few stables of each type, denoting that major characters are in those stables. After that, I went with whatever I could come up with.)

In general, I try to put dragons of certain classes in matching stables. Stoker Class dragons go in Stoker Stables, Tidal Class dragons go in Tidal Stables, Boulder Class in Boulder Stables, and Mystery Class in Mystery Stables, unless I run out of spots for all dragons of that type in a stable. (Most of my stables come from battles, so I don't always get to choose how many I have of each type.) As for Sharp, Strike, and Tracker Class dragons...those I choose locations for on an individual basis. To an extent, I also try not to put dragons that have vendettas against each other in the same stables. (For example, I wouldn't put Winterwind the Woolly Howl and Avalanche the Snow Wraith together because they are arch rivals. Same with Firegale the Monstrous Nightmare and Cyclone the Typhoomerang. I also will not put Splashwing the Sliquifier in the same stable with the Sliquifier-eating Scauldron Riptide. With my Death Songs and Slithersong, though, I'm just hoping they behave.)

So, my various stables!

Starter Stable/Strike Stable

Whispers Stable: (It's supposed to be "Whisper's Stable," but SoD hates apostrophes.) Like I said, this is where I put my main dragons, Winterwind the Woolly Howl and Icevein the Groncicle. These are two of Whisper's three dragons that she owns. (The third one, Sparrow the Terrible Terror, would be there, too, if there wasn't only two stalls, but she had to go elsewhere due to limited space. In my head, she lives in Whisper's house, anyway, and wouldn't need a stall in the stables.)

Boulder Class Stables

Whispering Rock Stable: This stable contains the most prominent Boulder Class dragons in Whisper's story: Boulderdash the Gronckle, Redwolf the Grapple Grounder, Honormaid the Hotburple, and Stonemaw the Catastrophic Quaken

Boulder Wolf Stable: This stable contains Boulder Class dragons Whisper meets in later stories: Meteorblast the Eruptodon, Gemtooth the Snafflefang, Charity the Shovelhelm, and Stonefist the Thunderpede.

Groncicle Stable: This is where I put Icevein's family...or most of them, anyway. Icevein's family, which I've assembled over time through a glitch and winning Groncicle eggs in battle, include his mother, father, and three siblings. Since only four dragons fit in one Boulder Stable, I've put his mother Permafrost and his three siblings Krystal, Snowblast, and Firn in here.

Elders Stable: This is where I put some of the older Boulder Class dragons Whisper is acquainted. There's Sawtooth the Whispering Death, Furious the Screaming Death, and my last two Groncicles, Icevein's father Hoarfrost and the ancient elder Groncicle Coldnip. (I'll probably Titanize him to denote his age if SoD ever makes a Groncicle Titan Wing.)

Titan Rock Stable: This is where I put my Boulder Class Titan Wings - the only Boulder Class dragons older in age than the ones in the Elders Stable - and one other Titan Wing in need of a stable. These are Fireball the Titan Wing Gronckle, Bramble the Titan Wing Whispering Death, Merciless the Titan Wing Screaming Death, and Galewing the Titan Wing Skrill.

And with that, I stabled all my Boulder Class dragons, so the last Boulder Class stable holds dragons of other classes.

Distant Stable: This is where I put dragons that are either minor characters and fall out of the story quickly, major characters that only come around every now and then, or a glitch I never wanted. These include my starter dragon Brightclaw the Deadly Nadder, who I credit as a village dragon on whom I learned to ride (like the pony Bam-Bam that I used when first learning to ride horseback...no, really, his name was Bam-Bam); Double and Trouble the Hideous Zippleback, who is the dragon of a very minor Viking character named Alva; Dasher the Woolly Howl, who only comes to visit in December; and Evermore the baby Death Song. Now the first Death Song I ever got I named Doomfang and only later came up with the name Evermore. (If I could change his name, I would.) The actual in-game Evermore was a second Death Song from a glitch and the only dragon I have that I absolutely never wanted and wish I could delete...hence why he's still a baby.

Stoker Class Stables

Whispering Fire Stable: These are the Stoker Class dragons that play the biggest roles in Whisper's story: Sparrow the Terrible Terror, Brightsoul the Singetail, Eclipse the Night Terror, and Cyclone the Typhoomerang. (Actually, Cyclone is mostly there not because he's an overly major character but because he's the arch enemy of Firegale, a dragon in the next Stoker Stable.)

Blazing Wolf Stable: These are the Stoker Class dragons that are generally more secondary characters: Firegale the Monstrous Nightmare, Lionheart the Moldruffle, Legacy the Silver Phantom, and Sunheart the Fireworm Queen. (These dragons are more aligned with my Viking OC Frida, who is actually more of an antagonist to Whisper than anything...though not evil, more of a rival.)

Fire Titan Stable: This is where I put my two Stoker Class Titan Wings as well as two other Titan Wings that are also very fiery: Ridgeback the Titan Wing Monstrous Nightmare, Carsten the Titan Wing Terrible Terror, Short and Snout the Titan Wing Hideous Zippleback, and Whiplash the Titan Wing Razorwhip.

And with that, I finished my Stoker Class dragons, so the rest of these stables are for other dragons.

Blazer Stable: This stable has dragons that have some pretty hot fire-breathing but are not Stoker Class: Fireflight the Hobblegrunt, Shadowhunter the Devilish Dervish, Windrider the Stormcutter, and Silvershard the Razorwhip. (I know Hobblegrunts are Stoker Class, but I consider Fireflight a Strike Class Threadtail.)

Titan Wing Stable: This was kind of my last Titan Wing Stable for those that I couldn't place in their respective class stables. It includes Horntail the Titan Wing Deadly Nadder, Wishbone the Titan Wing Boneknapper, Owleye the Titan Wing Stormcutter, and Jadeheart the Titan Wing Scuttleclaw.

Hearth Stable: These dragons are dragons of other classes that don't mind the heat and also have something about "home" to their story roles or themselves in general...hence "hearth." They include Oakclaw the Timberjack, Bullheart the Rumblehorn, Fortitude the Buffalord, and Mistwalker the Smothering Smokebreath.

Spare Stable: No dragons here. It's literally a spare. I have so many stables from battles that I have 6 dragons' worth of extra space. Here's 4 of those spaces.

Tidal Class Stables

Water Stable: This is the stable that includes the main dragon characters of the story of my Viking OC Dylan. They include Splashwing the Sliquifier, Seacry the Thunderdrum, Duststorm the Sand Wraith, and Zipzap the Shockjaw.

Sea Wolf Stable: Named for the fierce Tidal Class dragons here, particularly the Scauldron (orcas, which Scauldrons remind me of behaviorally, are sometimes called "sea wolves"...not to mention the irony with my screenname), this stable holds the remainder of my Tidal Class dragons, including Riptide the Scauldron, Freyasfang the Windwalker, Wavedancer the Tide Glider, and Darkbreather the Titan Wing Thunderdrum.

And with that, all my Tidal Class dragons were covered. The rest of these stables house other dragons.

Swimmer Stable: These are dragons that are not Tidal Class but are quite alright being near or around water. They include Echo the Mudraker, Rainshed the Raincutter, Aurora the Titan Wing Flightmare, and Fleetsteps the Speed Stinger.

North Stable: I was running out of stables and so placed these two dragons, who both come from cold northern climates, in this stable so they wouldn't have to be in a fiery one. They are Spitfire the Scuttleclaw and Solstice the Shivertooth.

Mystery Stables

Whisper Shadow Stable: Named for dragons that lurk in the shadows or send a chill down your spine, these are the Mystery Class dragons that play a big role in Whisper's story: Scourge the Boneknapper, Swordtail the Armorwing, Sneak Snip Snap Trap the Snaptrapper, and Professor the Flightmare. (Bandit's name had not been released when I got my Armorwing. If it had, I would have honored him by giving him his proper name. Whoops. Wish we could change dragon names.)

Mystery Wolf Stable: This stable is for Mystery Class dragons that also play quite a role in Whisper's story but not as big a role as the previous dragons. They are Flower the Changewing, Doomfang the Death Song, Nightingale the Slithersong, and Honey the Sweet Death. (I like to think Doomfang and Nightingale worked together to build my two Mystery Stables.)

Dream Stables

Whispering Dream Stable: With one exception, I reserved my Dream Stable for dragons that are almost main characters in Whisper's story...so mostly ice dragons. They include Frostclaws the Shivertooth, Thistle the Prickleboggle, Avalanche the Snow Wraith, Abominable the Titan Wing Snow Wraith, and Icebones the Skrill. The one exception to these all being main characters is Icebones - who is still a major character, so it's not unfitting that he's there - because one of the stalls in the Dream Stable has the symbol of a Skrill on it, so he just had to have that one. It was only right.

Also, now that I have my Terrible Terror Sparrow in-game, I've renamed my Dream Stable Terror Sprite, who was another minor Terrible Terror character I had in my head. (He's named after the small magical creature, not the soda.)

In the event that I finally get my membership, I will place Toothless in the Dream Stable because the one and only Toothless would deserve nothing less. Abominable would then go in the North Stable in such an event.

So many dragons, even titan wings

You have twenty stables in use?! I can hardly believe you got all the titan wings separately. How do you do it all? Raising so many dragons, earning enough gems for them, writing such long posts! Between this post and the descriptions of your dragons' intended appearance, I've leaned a lot about them.

I didn't know Carsten was a titan wing. Does that represent how helpful and reliable be is? (By the way, writing the name of that growth stage in capitals seems like overkill to me.) I looked at the description of him on your blog, and I'm surprised to see that he's people rather than orange. I love that adorable dragon of yours, but never got to see what he looked like as a broad wing.

Dragons With the Wrong Names

Eh...Titan Wing Carsten is not Norbert's Carsten. I intend to get a "proper" Carsten when I can save up the gems to get Norbert a Terrible Terror. Currently I don't have any version of that Carsten.

Whisper's in-game Carsten was...a mistake. Name-wise, anyway. He was originally called "Van," but I bought him right after the age-up glitch occurred. It forced me to constantly rename him. Finally it told me "Van" was not available to name him (despite the fact it had worked 5 times prior). I figured that it would just reset again, so in frustration, I typed in the first male Terror name I could think of, which was Carsten. (I tried Sprite first, but that didn't work, either.) Well, now Van is stuck being Carsten. He now has to join the list of other dragons who doesn't have his proper name in-game. *facepalm*

I used my in-game dragon names when making this list since it's more game-relevent than story-relevent (except for Icebones...I accidentally forgot to use his in-game name, Stormblaze). But here's the dragons that, if I could rename them, I would:

Krystal should be Crystal. (For some reason, SoD wouldn't take the "C.")

Stormblaze should be Icebones. (Try to name your dragon with something starting with "ice," and the game just rebels. I can't believe "Icevein" made it past the censors, but after the struggle I had naming Icebones, I'm relieved my main dragon didn't have this problem.)

Carsten should be Van. (This one's the worst because now it's made a name confusion with characters.)

Duststorm should be Fjord. (Eh...this is one's on me. I thought of his name, later.)

Zipzap should be Sparky. (For crying out loud, why would "Sparky" not work?!)

Oakclaw should be Oakthorn. (SoD hates "thorn.")

Cyclone sould be Firenado. (Come on, SoD! That was the best Typhoomerang name!)

Doomfang should be Evermore. (This one's my fault. But now I have an Evermore, so...)

Swordtail should be Bandit. (This one's my fault, too.)

Boulderdash should be Stonemaw.

Stonemaw should be Boulderdash. (Yes, their names got switched. Why? I don't freaking know. Luckily, they both fit somewhat.)

Is that everybody? I think that's everybody. Everyone else has their proper names.

Whisper, I was jsut

Whisper, I was jsut wondering, is your in-game name WhispertheWolf?  Because I saw someone else with a Snow Wraith named Abominable and although it's probably just a coincidence, I'm still curious.

WhispertheWolf and NorberttheNutcase

Yup, that was me! :)

My in-game names are WhispertheWolf and NorberttheNutcase. (I have a bunch of other Vikings, too, that I got from glitches, but I don't really use them except for character designs, screenshot comics, and daily log-ins.) I play with Whisper more often, and she's the one you're most likely to see racing (Abominable being my main racing dragon), but you'll often see Norbert during battles, usually with Thistle the Prickleboggle.

Specifying dragon characters

I've been wondering why you have other characters' dragons on your main profile, as that seems redundant if you still need to get duplicates of them for the characters who trained them. And if Boulderdash and Stonemaw's names are switched, couldn't you switch their colours to cancel out the problem (asssuming they are both Gronckles)? Edit: I scanned through your list again and finally found that "Stonemaw" is a Quaken. So never mind. And even though the game didn't allow certain names, on the forum you could make up for that by letting them be known by their intended names only. You might at least disregard those that were truly unwanted, or mistakes on your part.

But I DON'T Do Duplicates For Different Trainers...Not Really

I only play with two characters, and they are best friends who normally interact with the exact same dragons, so...getting duplicates almost seems necessary if they're going to be in screenshot comics. (There's a comic I've been holding off on because Norbert has to ride Winterwind, and he doesn't have a Woolly Howl yet. See, same dragons.) But they're my only Viking characters, so unless you're talking about Frostclaws and Thistle (Norbert's dragons)...and maybe Redwolf, since I guess Norbert mostly trained him, but that was kind of a group effort on Whisper and Norbert's part. But otherwise I don't have the other trainer characters.

Screenshot comics are actually how getting duplicate dragons even got started. I only ever got one Viking purposefully - my main, WhispertheWolf - and the other 4 are from a glitch. I decided to use and still do use the other Vikings to get daily log-in rewards. (The nice part about 5 Vikings is getting 200 gems every 5 days.) However, I had no desire to really do anything with them, and I only made one of them male - named NorberttheNutcase after my friend's character - for giggles. I did eventually make Norbert a major character in my story, and so when I started making screenshot comics, I started using him for that (figuring that if I needed a second girl character, I could just transform Whisper's look). So...no, I don't get duplicates of dragons for the people that trained them. The dragons on Norbert's account are duplicates of the ones on Whisper's, but that's just for screenshot comic purposes, and as a result, he doesn't have a lot of them by comparison. If not for those comics, I wouldn't be even bothering with the Norbert Viking at all. But Carsten - the character Carsten - probably will be the first dragon I have on Norbert's account that I might not bother getting on Whisper's. Might change if I ever want Carsten and Whisper in the same screenshot, but I don't think that will be necessary.

Oh, that reminds me, because Norbert's account is just sort of "there" unless I'm battling, I haven't really organized his stables or bothered naming them, but Frostclaws and Thistle are in his starter stable, which I did name Norberts Stable. (I'm so original.) I did make his own dragons a priority on his account, and that included stable setup. I've been thinking I should organize his family's dragons, too. Norbert has a father, mother, and little sister, and they all have their own dragons, plus the family Terror Carsten.

As for using certain names on the forum, I used to just use dragons' intended names until someone who met me in-game apparently viewed my profile and wondered where was Icebones and why do I have a Skrill named Stormblaze who looks like him. It was hard to explain they were one-and-the-same using SoD's limited chat. (Got to love the ridiculous chat machine.) XD So these days, generally when I'm talking about the game from a straight gameplay aspect, I use the names they're given in the actual game. It is a game, and these are just bags of pixels at the end of the day. If I'm racing or battling, I am using them as just that, pieces of a game. But when I'm talking about characters in terms of stories or OCs, I use their character names. I'm usually lucky enough to have them be the same name but not always. So, since I consider stables to be a game thing and not an story thing, I organized them by their game names.

Favorite Songs

So far, I've only got 2 stables, to house my 5 dragons. I'm planning to create a "theme" for my stable names, which will be under the category of My Favorite Songs. Right now I've got An Act Of Kindness, housing my two starter dragons, Shockwave my rescued Shockjaw, and Skyflower my Nadder; and Way Beyond (boulder stable), containing Windchaser my Stormcutter, Frostnip my Groncicle, and Raika my Skrill and best dragon friend.

An Act Of Kindness was picked because, well, it was an act of kindness adopting those two dragons, and I just thought it fit pretty well. Way Beyond was originally going to be Four Walls, except SoD hates numbers so I went with my second choice, which I chose because of the cliff into oblivion at the back end. (Actually, there's a glitch that lets you fall into that oblivion. I found it because I can pretty much spend hours climbing on anything that can possibly be climbed.) I'm planning on moving those dragons into a "cooler" stable when I get more gems or more dragons, mostly because Raika hates its "boringness" and Windchaser won't let Raika out of her sight for more than five minutes.

In case you're wondering, all of the songs listed above are by Bastille. (You know, Pompeii?) They're a really amazing band, and fairly recently came out with a new album, Wild World, from which all of those songs were from. Also up on the stable name list will be Imagine Dragons, also a great band, and I highly suggest you check them both out. HIGHLY. THEY'RE FREAKING AMAZING!

(Just ignore the fangirling.)

Under construction. Watch out for falling rocks.

...is everyone else having

...is everyone else having trouble renaming their stables right now? Mine seem to be glitched.

I tend to just name my stables with the initials of the dragons that are in there (occasionally I have to be careful not to spell four-letter words). I remember roughly which dragons went together because in my head they have different relationships and some get on better than others, so that makes it really easy for me to find the dragon I'm looking for.

It's not very creative and it's not much fun, but it's quite practical.
