I take art commissions and art trades!

I can do digital drawings. Dragons from HTTYD, Dragonvale and Flight Rising are all good, and so are hybrids. Be warned though, I will not draw boulder class, nadders, scuttleclaws, deathgrippes or groncicles. I can't get their heads right. BUT, I can always have a go at them in an art trade if you want to practice something you're not too good at yet (but you will be! You will always be amazing! :D)

I CAN have a go at drawing humans, even though I'm not particularly good.

Examples can be found on my DeviantArt page.

PM me if you would like art, or I can be found on Discord at Flitt Locke#7968

I may be slow due to rl stuff, but I WILL get it done. If you want to know where you are on the list, then you can find a request list here.

Nice! You've reached the end! Pm me for your reward (Art, banner or book cover. Your choice!) :D

Chapter One - The Dragonblood Chief

Being a Chief was hard enough. What with all the petty complaints, huts to fix, training to oversee and the hundreds of dragons and Vikings to keep happy and fed. You'd think that the son of a great Chief would take it all in his stride, and Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third did, to an extent.
But then being a chief and a Dragonblood made things a smidgen more complicated.
You see, when Hiccup's mother, Valka, told him he had the soul of a dragon, she was right. Hiccup did indeed have soul of a dragon, and he admitted that without hesitation. But what he did not say was that he could take on the form of a Night Fury.
He could Shift at will. With a single thought he could instantly become his true, midnight scaled self. But every month at full moon, the pull of his dragon side became too strong to resist, and he escaped from the village into the night to fly free above the clouds. He had almost been caught many times, when he had been overconfident and come too near the village. Most of the time he flew above the clouds, out of sight from prying eyes, with himself, the stars, wild dragons and occasionally his mother to accompany him.
Sometimes, they'd play tag, diving in and out the clouds and riding the air currents with the greatest ease. Sometimes, they'd just glide, drifting high above the land. They were happy there, in the starlight, free as a, well, dragon.
But then as dawn approached they would have to return to Berk, back to the noise, the moanings, the crowds, the human life.
Hiccup wished he could just fly away, shake off his human role and be free as a dragon forever. But there was no chance of that. He had Toothless, Astrid and a whole village to look out for. And still the guilt of events a year ago weighing him down.
So yeah, being a Chief could be hard, but being a Dragonblood Chief was harder.
Hiccup shook his head to clear those thoughts away. He had a job to do right now, an important one. Reports had come in from the west that Dragon Hunters had been spotted, a whole fleet of them, headed towards an only-just-discovered giant sinkhole. The original mission had been to explore this sinkhole, but it now looked as if it had a bit of fire-at-the-Dragon-Hunters-and-free-any-trapped-dragons on the side.
He sighed and went back to packing saddle bags for the journey, while his best bud, Toothless, stood patiently waiting with his green, catlike eyes half closed. Nearby the other riders were doing the same, apart from the twins, who were bludgeoning each other with salted sturgeon while Barf and Belch held Ruff and Tuff in the air.
The blonde, blue eyed Viking, Astrid, must have heard his sigh. She came over and patted him on the shoulder. 'It's going to be alright, Hiccup. We've defeated Hunters before, we know what to do now.'
'It's not that that I'm worried about,' Hiccup sighed again. 'It's the sinkhole. What if, when we go down there, there's another Red Death or Leviathan of some kind. Drago's Bewilderbeast could be down there for all we know! We may not all make it out, I don't want to put you at risk, Astrid, or any of you. What if- what if-'
'What if we just go down there and see instead of worrying about it,' broke in a chubby, fair haired Viking. Fishlegs peered over from the other side of his Gronckle, Meatlug. 'We're not going to know until we fly in there and find out.'
'I know,' Hiccup said. By now all the other dragon riders were watching, even the twins had frozen in mid slap to listen. 'I know, it's just... Urgh!' In truth, it wasn't only the sinkhole and Dragon Hunters he was worrying about, it was that it was only a week until full moon. This mission and and the Hunter ships couldn't have come at a worse time.
The Chief turned back to the saddle bags, slotting rations, water and other essential stuff into place. 'Go get something to eat,' he said over his shoulder to the waiting Vikings. 'Meet up back here at midday, we'll head out then.'
His friends filed out from the arena, which had formally been the place where young Vikings were trained to kill dragons. Now it was a dragon training area, with everything from Dragon Nip to saddles neatly stashed in the carved caverns around the edge.
Astrid glanced back at him, but didn't say anything to him or stop, she knew he needed time alone. Instead she called to Fishlegs, who was still by Meatlug. 'You coming, Fishlegs?'
Fishlegs shook his head. 'I'll be over in bit, I'm going to finish up here first.'
Astrid nodded and hurried after the rest of the gang.
Hiccup stopped what he was doing and stared at his hands. He knew what was coming.
'You can't hide forever, you know,' Fishlegs said from behind him. He half turned towards him. 'They're going to find out eventually, you disappearing every full moon is a bit a suspicious, to my mind. You should just tell them.'
'It's not that easy, and you know that. I can't just tell my friends that I'm part dragon after all these years, what would they think? That I'm some kind of monster?' Hiccup rubbed his arm, his expression thoughtful and worried. 'I know I've asked this before, but promise me you won't tell them?'
The Ingerman looked at him steadily. 'It's going to be worse for you in the long run if you keep it locked up.' He sighed, knowing a lecture wouldn't work. 'I promise not to tell them. Yet'
The Chief nodded sadly, but with a hint of relief too. 'Let it remain a secret. For now.'

FANDOMS

Ordered by preference, of course

(used to be top ten, but I have too many things that I love!)

HTTYD books/movies

(obviously, but I HAD to put that in there, it really is my favorite)

The books were SO GOOD. No swearing, no (extreme) violence (does getting eaten by a lava dragon that dives into a volcano count? Or Grimbeard the Ghastly killing his own son?) Okay, scratch the violence, but it really is pretty awesome. The characters are SO well put together, each with his or her own little quirks that make them unique, and they’re all (mostly) lovable in their own way (Alvin and Exellinor are irredeemable). The little lessons Cressida Cowell teach by inserting them into the plot are truly inspired. Can’t wait for her to write more!!! (Also, I love the quirky way she capitalizes random words to make them a little bit more important. It’s just funny to me.)

I'll leave off mentioning all the characters of the movies, because you guys know them all aready! But you may not know the Heroes who came first...

First (of course), Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III.

Rather a longish name for a smallish Viking. Hiccup is a member of the Hairy Hooligan tribe. He has bright red hair and about a million freckles. the series starts when he's ten-and-a-half, and progresses until he is fifteen and King of the Wilderwest. His best (and, for a few books, ONLY friend) is Fishlegs.

Fishlegs is scrawny, allergic to reptiles, pretty much scared of everything, and the only sane one of the group (well, the only sane one when Hiccup is making a Plan). But he's fiercely loyal to Hiccup, and a good deal stronger and braver than he thinks.

Next is Camicazi, who's a little too brave and fierce.

She's a Bog-Burglar, a member of an all-girls tribe of people who, well, burgle things. She is a very accomplished thief and a master escape artist.

Narnia

Second in the fandom world is--you guessed it--Narnia. I have loved this world since before even HTTYD, I think. Though I'm not quite ready to meet Alsan, I would love to slip through the wardrobe for a few days--or years.

The False Prince

OH MY GOSH THIS IS AMAZING!!!

Okay.

So the story is set in a medieval world in the land of Carthya. It's about an orphan named Sage. The storyline is great, the main character (Sage) is very well-rounded, believeable, and goes through some great character growth (not to mention he's snarky and smart and super funny). I LOVED it, and it's seriously amazing. If you read it, you will NOT be disappointed! (P.S. If you're one of those people who likes to read the end first, don't. Trust me, it's worth it to wait)

Artemis Fowl

OH MAI GAWSH I LOVE THIS SERIES. Artemis' gradual arc and his heists and jokes (on the rare occasion he demonstrates a sense of humor) are just the best thing EBER. ALSO! Holly Shory is the best LEPrecon to ever wear a set of wings. (Also if you wanna see an incredibly imaginative and accurate crossover fanfic about the Avengers meeting Artemis Fowl, this is where it's AT!) But don't watch the movie, ooohhh no. Disney still needs to apologize for giving a perfectly written anti-hero morals. The audacity!

The Magic Thief/The Lost Books/Sarah Prineas in general

The Magic Thief: MY PRECIOUS LITTLE CHARACTERS I WILL PROTECT YOOOOUUUUU!!!

I LOVE this series, it ended far too quickly for me (maybe cause I read it all in one day, hmmmmm). Connwaer and the magic and all of it are just so HILARIOUS and EXHILIRATING and FRUSTRATING to read about and STOP BLOWING THINGS UP, CONNWAER!!!

The Lost Books: MORE! MORE! I NEED MORE! (Seriously, when does the next book come out?)

Anyway, it’s about Alex, a librarian, and Kenneret, a queen, and her brother Charlie. Oh, and the books are alive (that’s enough to make any bookworm hyperventilate with happiness, isn’t it? ;D )

Dragonfell: YESYESYES THIS IS WHAT IT IS TO BE A DRAGON!!....ahem.

Attention to all the dragon-touched: This is a must-read. Go. Read it.

The Silver Eye

This is an INCREDIBLE webcomic by one Laura Hollingsworth (also the only webcomic/comic I have ever read, BUT STILL). The world is beautiful, the characters are funny and awesome (Apen and Joe are my favorites), and the art is incredible! It uploads a page EVERY FRIDAY and the story is so good!

Keeper of the Lost Cities

"Team Foster-Keefe will always be cooler."--Keefe

....

Yup, couldn’t have said it better myself. Team Foster-Keefe all the way! I have read Legacy and it was...what I expected (-_-) BUT UNLOCKED (Keeper book #8.5) looks so exciting! Can't wait!! 8D

Maleficent

ALL HAIL THE MISTRESS OF ALL EVIL, MASTER OF MAGIC AND ALL FAERIES UNDER HER REALM!!

...and birds. And wicked-looking staffs. And cute little blondies called Beastie.

Wasn't a fan of her outfit for like 90% of Maleficent 2 but the rest of it was great! Better than a certain movie I could mention *cough*TheHiddenWorld*cough*.

Wizards of Once

*anxiously jittering about the Unknown Narrator*
*casually stressing about Xar's Witchblood stain*
*hopelessly shipping Xar and Wish when Bodkin is probably going to get the girl*

Dwight in Shining Armor

I get a kick out of this every time I hear Dwight's shriek in the intro. BYUTv is the best!...at making things funny, clean, and SUPER awkward. But it's still great.

Story Thieves

My favorites are actually Kiel and Owen. No girls this time around, which is really unusual for me. But these two are special. Hope they have all the adventures they can imagine...and maybe a few safer ones.

The Ever Afters (EAS)

This series is pretty good. Aurora--excuse me, RORY Landon is so gutsy and flawed and lovable and I love her.

Brave (Merida)

Just gotta say, I LOVE this girl. Best Disney princess ever. Also--this isn't really related to the movie but it IS technically part of the franchise so imma say it anyway--her accent is gold. I friggin LOVE Scotland and the accent and the culture and lore and landscape and language and--okay, gushing aside, the point of this mini-rant is that I loved Merida in Wreck-it-Ralph 2. It was also the only thing I loved in Wreck-it-Ralph 2.

Pete's Dragon

Best song ever

Chapter Two - The Dragon Hunters

The Dragon Riders met back up in the arena at midday, the dragons trailing behind reluctantly after being dragged away from their feast of fish. Toothless still had a fishes tail sticking out of his mouth, which he was chewing smugly as the other dragons looked at him enviously. Hiccup shook his head in amusement. His best bud always made him smile no matter what situation they were in. But then, like almost always, his expression turned grim again and he addressed his fellow Riders.
'If we head out now, we should be able to reach the sinkhole by this evening, and with it, the Hunters.' He glanced around at the group and proceeded to list the things they needed. 'Provisions?'
    'Check.'
    'Weapons?'
    'Check.'
'Uh- Dragons?' Tuffnut butted in and pointing to Hookfang. The red-orange Monstrous Nightmare was chasing a couple of Terrible Terrors above the arena and completely ignoring his Rider's yells to 'come back right now, you stupid lizard!'
The twins zippleback, Barf and Belch, head butted each other and went out to join the chase. Ruffnut and Tuffnut yelled in delight and ran out to chase Zippleback, Nightmare and Terrors all at once.
'Oh, Gods,' Hiccup muttered, shaking his brown, shaggy haired head in despair.
'This may take a while,' Astrid observed from beside him.
'Yeah,' Hiccup took a deep breath, ready to yell at them to all calm down, but Toothless beat him to it. The Night Fury's ear splittingingly loud roar grabbed everyone's attention, making them focus on him alone. Hookfang, Barf and Belch and the twins came scurrying back in with their heads lowered, while the Terrors scarpered.
'Thanks, bud,' Hiccup gave the Alpha an appreciative nod. 'Right, now are we ready?' Everyone nodded. 'Good. Let's move out, gang.'
Riders mounted on dragons, they took off and headed west, the midday, summer sun beating down on them. The wind whipped at the Vikings hair and clothes, chilling them but at the same time exhilarating them. The dragons dipped and dived, squawked and growled in high spirits. The overall mood was content, with an underlying current of worry. But as they flew, both dragons and riders began to enjoy the flight.

***

That was, until hours later. The dragons wings were sore and aching, and their riders were stiff from sitting in the same place for so long.
At long last an outcropping of rock came into view, a very, very small island. They set down gratefully and immediately sprawled out on the rock, dragons and riders alike. Astrid's Deadly Nadder, Stormfly, soon found a small melt water pool and they took long drinks and filled their water skins up. After half an hour though, Hiccup, as always, got restless and said they should continue on their way. With much groaning and growling they did, flying for another hour without seeing anything but sea and wispy white cloud.
But then they saw something through the cloud that made them all gasp.
A sinkhole was an understatement, a massive one. The chasm that filled their vision was the size of Berk at least. Waterfalls raged down its sides, throwing up spray so dense that it was impossible to see inside. Rainbows danced everywhere, small and large, sparkling, shimmering ones. The sound, even from such a distance, was incredible. It roared like a hundred, no, a thousand dragons shrieking in unison.
'There!' Snotlout yelled, pointing to their left. About a mile away was a single ship, with dragon killing scenes upon its sails and spikes jutting from its sides. It was sailing directly towards the chasm, waves smashing themselves into white froth on its hull. But the thing that most angered and frightened the Dragon Riders was that there were dragons chained to it all the way round. And they appeared to be pulling the ship onwards.
Hiccup immediately went into tactics mode. 'Snotlout, Ruff, Tuff, we need some explosions. Fishlegs, free the dragons. Me and Astrid will take out the crossbows. Everyone good?'
    'Got it,' they all chorused.
    'Great.'
The twins and Snotlout charged first, shouting out their respective battle cries and causing mayhem aboard the ship. Then Astrid and Stormfly dove down and took out two crossbows in one swoop. Fishlegs was already away, Meatlug melted the metal with her hot blast. Now for the Night Fury.
'Lets go, bud.' Dragon and Rider dove as one, Toothless's famous shriek growing louder as they closed in on their target. As they sped past almost to quick to see a bright blue blast struck the ship and set it swaying. Up they went, flipping over and plummeting back down for another strike, but a high pitched scream stopped them. Fishlegs and Meatlug were being chased by a now unchained Deathgripper, barely avoiding its poison green blasts.
Toothless soared up and sent a plasma blast whizzing between Meatlug and the Deathgripper. The spider like dragon whirled around with a blast of fire, it's small yellow eyes focusing on the Night Fury. On its head, there was a strange contraption with little bottles of green liquid stuck in it.
Suddenly there was another dragon, a Woolly Howl with a similar contraption on its head, behind them. Then there was a Grim Gnasher and a Scuttleclaw, one above and one to the side. They had surrounded the Fury and his rider.
Toothless roared his Alpha roar but, when that made no difference, he folded his wings and dropped, gronckle style. The pack of dragons followed, eyes intent on their pray, wings tight to their bodies. As they neared the water Toothless snapped his wings open with a thwump and looped up so he was above the dragons. The Deathgripper smashed into the ocean first, followed by the Woolly and Gnasher. The Scuttleclaw saw and managed to only brush the sea with its claws before it was circling back up. With wild flapping and growls, the three dragons burst up from the water, wings dripping and fire licking from their jaws. Hiccup sensed his fellow riders gather silently around him, ready to fight with tooth, claw and axe.
A strange sound echoed over the sea, a mix between a horn and a Bewilderbeasts rattling control. The four dragons turned sharply in midair and soared towards the location of the sound and, following their flight path, the Vikings saw a fleet of ships silhouetted against the evening sky. It was quite a distance away, but still they could see the that the sails were down, so the ships must have been at anchor.
'Oh. My. Thor,' Fishlegs breathed, voicing what they were all thinking.
'What was that stuff in the bottles?' Astrid wondered out loud.
'Whatever it was, I want some,' Tuffnut said excitedly.
Ruffnut caught her brother's eagerness. 'Oh yeah, imagine what we could do with a whole army of them dragons.'
    'Ultimate destruction.'
'And you two muttonheads would probably be the first ones caught in the firing line of an army of crazed dragons,' Snotlout shouted down from Hookfang's back.
Hiccup ignored their banter, instead focusing on the ship below them. Toothless's blast had ripped a hole in starboard side, and now the wooden vessel was slowly sinking into the dark blue waves. The strange thing was, there was no people, it looked as if the fleet of ships in the distance had sent out a test boat to see if there were dragons around and see what the crazed dragons would do if they met any. It was all very strange and needed time to put thought to, and some peace from five yelling Vikings.
'Ok guys,' the Chief broke into the shouting contest. 'We're heading into the chasm. Please do not shout, we don't know what lies in there. Stick together and no blasting anything without my consent,' here he looked meaningfully at the twins, who sniggered, and Snotlout, who suddenly became interested in his nails. 'Is that clear?'
    Affirmative noises followed. 'Let's go.'
With a last look at the ships, they dove into the chasm, the sound of the waterfalls deafening, and disappeared into the rainbowed mist.

Ahaaaaaa.....

This makes SO MUCH SENSE--why WOULDN'T Grimmel use his Deathgripper venom on other dragons?

Ditto

Ditto Dragoness, I thought the same thing. Perhaps because he simply hates dragons and wants to minimize their use as much as possible?

Hahhaha I'd hate to be him lying in bed wondering if he's remembered to refil the venom for each and every dragon xD

Venomous...

He used it on the Light Fury, soooo...

XD great scene there, Lissa.

"He heard a thump from above, making his heart race. Was that a dragon? Had he forgotten to refill the vials? Cautiously he sat up, hearing scratching coming down the corridor towards his room. He watched the door handle slowly turn and gulped, wondering if this was his final few minutes.

With a long creak, the wooden door swung open..."

Chapter Three - The Hidden World

They got wet, there's no denying that. The spray from the water pouring down the sides was so thick it was like flying into a thunderstorm head on. Toothless's ears went right down in displeasure and Stormfly kept flicking water drops from her scales, right onto Meatlug beside her. It was eerily quiet in the mist, their wingbeats muffled and quiet growls quashed. They wove down through stalactites of colossal sizes, the gloomy light only revealing them at the last second. Down they went, spiralling, twisting, turning until at last they saw light ahead. They emerged from the murky mist and the Vikings mouths dropped open in astonishment.
    'Whoa,' they all breathed.
Around them was a huge cavern, stalactites reached down to stalagmites, so big they looked like mountains. Waterfalls of varying sizes gushed down from lakes, rainbowed and beautiful. Multicoloured lights lit up the rock, seemingly coming from within the stone itself. They soared through pillars of glowing rock, with nests of luminous eggs perched on them. Plants and mushrooms the size of thrones glowed along sandy coves. They flew through a cloud of fireworms, the small dragons glowing brightly, and Astrid raised her hand to brush them. An exclamation from Fishlegs alerted them to the fact that their dragons were glowing, patterns of all different colours lighting up their scales.
'This is amazing,' Hiccup whispered. His inner dragon stirred restlessly, wanting to experience the flight through this awing place. But he quashed the urge to shift, telling himself that there'd be another time. Toothless growled and he looked to his left, seeing a stormcutter race past, then to his right there was a windwalker. He began to notice more dragons, all glowing. Eruptodons, prickleboggles, sand wraiths, rumblehorns, dramillions, gronckles, whispering death, flamewhippers, deathsongs and many more. 'It's a hidden dragon world.'
'The Hidden World,' Astrid said at almost the same time.
'I think I prefer yours,' Hiccup grinned.
They landed in a small cove sheltered by giant mushrooms, the strange light reflecting off the water and onto their faces. The sand was soft and there were oddly coloured pebbles strewn about, as if someone had scattered a handful of brightly coloured grain. A flock of fireworms flapped away from their roost on the fungus caps, their glow changing colour as they flew.
'We should make a base and map out the area, the more information we have the better. Fishlegs and Meatlug...' Hiccup turned to see that the gronckle had fallen asleep with her legs spread eagled, her small wings drooping to the sand. Beside her Hookfang was snoring, puffs of smoke and even flame coming from his nostrils with each breath.
'Let our dragons rest, Hiccup,' Astrid said, putting a hand on his shoulder from behind. 'We've been flying half the day, they've earned their sleep.'
Hiccup nodded, ashamed that he hadn't thought of that. He could sense Toothless next to him, the tiredness like a cloud around his friend. 'Go rest, bud.' Toothless gave his trademark grin and curled up beside Stormfly, who squawked sleepily. 'I'll keep watch,' the Chief said to his Vikings, to which Fishlegs immediately replied: 'no, I will.'
    'Fishlegs...'
'I'm too wired up to sleep, all of you go get some, you need it.' He'd set his mind now, and there was no changing it, Hiccup could tell. Him and his friends went to their dragon companions and either leaned or curled up with them. He leant against the Night Fury and shut his eyes, listening to his friends and the distant and not so distant dragon sounds. Into his mind came the image of the Deathgripper with the strange contraption on its head, the little bottles of green liquid looking ominous. What in Thor's name was that stuff? It was almost certainly that that'd made the dragons mad. Maybe it was Dragon Root? The symptoms were similar, but not the same. With Dragon Root it made the dragons who came in contact with it fight whatever came near them, but these dragons had gone for him and Toothless alone, after they'd shot at it, of course. And who would experiment on them like that? Who would send out a battle ready ship with no one it and bonkers dragons chained to the side? Definitely not Drago, that was for sure. As far as Hiccup knew, the madman had been killed when Toothless and the Berkian dragons had defeated the Alpha.
He felt eyes on him and opened his own green ones to meet Fishlegs' blue ones. Hiccup raised an eyebrow and he gestured with a look to his right. Through the glowing plants he could see a pair of blue eyes, the pupils rimmed with red, and a white, newt like head. His eyes widened and he glanced at Fishlegs, the unspoken question; Was this a Fury? Hanging between them. Hiccup got up slowly, his left metal leg squeaking slightly, and approached the dragon. When he got within three yards of it its pupils turned to slits and it whisked away, a white tail momentarily flicking into view.
Hiccup blinked. Surely he'd been seeing things. There couldn't be another Fury, and a white one at that. But then, he'd been searching for another Night Fury for years, and maybe this was the end...
'A Light Fury,' Astrid said from behind him, making him jump. Obviously she'd been watching too. 'You know what this could mean, Hiccup,' she said excitedly. 'Our search could finally be over.'
'Yeah,' he said, still blinking in surprise. 'Yeah, it could.'

Chapter Four - The Full Moon

When everyone was rested they began to explore the cavern. It was indeed huge, easily bigger than the chasm they had flown into. Waterfalls poured down into lakes, lights glinted everywhere and fish leapt out of the water. This place was truly beautiful.
The gang made a base camp near a freshwater lake, setting up small tents and using a flatish boulder as a table. Soon after they started to make maps - well, all but the twins did. They were having a great time leaping out from behind pillars and scaring the life out of their fellow Vikings. Hiccup, Astrid and co. yelled at them many a time, but, of coarse, it made no difference. As they explored this giant place, which took some time to fly all the way round, they discovered caves hidden behind waterfall, a spring emerging from a mound covered in glowing plants and a strange, dark alcove where light couldn't penetrate and where the fireworms roosted in great numbers. But the most intriguing discovery was a glowing tunnel with luminous crystals that was guarded by dragons. They'd flown through there quite a few times in the hopes that there would be no guards, but always there was at least one dragon blocking their path.
'This is killing me!' Hiccup exclaimed one time after another failed attempt. 'Why won't they let us past? What are they hiding in there?'
'Maybe they'll only let dragons past. It'd make sense, if they've had a bad experience with humans,' Fishlegs said, wobbling atop his gronckle.
'So we send our dragons in there,' Tuffnut said.
'And they can tell us what's in there,' Ruffnut finished for him. The twins high fived.
Astrid rolled her eyes. 'You do know dragons can't speak.'
The Chief glanced at Fishlegs, who gave him a look that said: tell them.
'Technically, dragons can speak,' he said. In human form he could neither understand nor speak Dragontongue, the highest and lowest pitched notes that dragons made to communicate were beyond human hearing and vocabulary. In this form, his unforked tongue was incapable of producing two very different sounds at once.
'Yeah,' Snotlout said. 'Now we just need someone who can understand all the growls and squawks.'
'Wouldn't it be good if we could speak dragon language,' Fishlegs piped up, looking at Hiccup pointedly and still wobbling atop Meatlug. 'Everything would be so much easier.'
'Then we could find out what Hookfang thinks of Snotlout,' Astrid smirked at said Viking.
'And you'd see that I'm the greatest Viking that ever lived.' Hookfang smacked his rider with a horn, a smug smile curving his scaly lips. 'Hey! What was that for? You know it's the truth.'
Hiccup's thoughts drifted away from the conversation. They moved on to things that were never far from his mind. The Light Fury, the ships, the deranged dragons with their strange headgear, Berk, the tunnel, this whole place they were in, and a new one. His inner dragon had become stronger and he didn't know why, maybe it was this place, or the stress of not Shifting for days, or maybe just the stress of everything in general. He was worried, for if it got any stronger he may not be able to stop himself Shifting.
Hiccup was pulled from his meandering thoughts by Astrid calling his name. The others were heading back to camp to have dinner, which probably consisted of their rations because they hadn't been fishing yet.
It must have been an hour later - or maybe it was two, hard to tell when the light didn't really change - when they'd finally managed to tear their way through dried fish and meat, that Hiccup began to feel uneasy. He couldn't ignore his inner dragon anymore, it was like an incessant buzzing, except he didn't hear it but felt it. He told the gang he was going down to the lake for a while, alone, and gave Toothless a pat before heading off. As he passed Astrid, however, she frowned at him as if he'd suddenly gained four eyes. He frowned back and carried on down the sandy slope, going to the left of a rock pillar that divided the beach in two. He sat by the water's edge for a little while, staring off into the distance but seeing nothing. Then he bent over the spring water lake and cupped the icy, clean liquid in his hands. It tasted wonderful, he had no idea why it did, but it was the best water he'd ever come across. As the ripples faded he stared down at his reflection, the strange light playing on his brown hair, pale skin, green eyes...
    ...that had slitted pupils.
He leapt up in panic. That's why Astrid had frowned at him, his eyes had changed without him noticing. He tried to make them go back to normal, but they wouldn't, no matter how hard he tried. He looked down at his hands and to his dismay he saw a faint outline of scales there, running up his arms and getting more and more visible with each passing second.
'Why, why, why?' He muttered to himself. Then it all clicked into place. When they'd left it had been around a week until full moon. The inability to tell the time down here. His dragon becoming stronger. It all fitted in. It was full moon.
Why had he not put it together sooner? He stared between his hands and his reflection for several minutes, wondering what on earth he was going to do. Going back to camp was out of the question. Staying here to Shift was risky. It seemed like the only coarse of action was to make a run for it.
'Hiccup?' Astrid's voice carried down the makeshift path. She was coming.
Oh Thor. To his left there was sand and water, where he'd surely be seen. To his right was plants and then the continuation of the beach. He sprang to his right, crashing through the plants and sprinting around the pillar, slipping on the soft sand.
    And ran straight into Astrid.
She'd been coming round the other side of pillar, if he's gone the other way he could've escaped. But it was too late now.
Astrid caught him by his shoulders and held him at arms length so she could look at him. Seeing his pupils slits and scales covering his skin she let go, wide eyed.
'I - I,' Hiccup stuttered, not knowing what to say and panting from the effort of keeping his dragon contained.
'Hiccup?...' Astrid whispered. Then more strongly. 'Explain. Now.'
'I...' Hiccup shut his eyes as a quiver racked his tense muscles. 'I... Can't. Not... Right now.'
Concern flickered in the blonde Viking's eyes and she gave a half step towards him. 'Hiccup, wha —?'
The Dragonblood Chief held up a trembling hand, warning her not to come any closer. 'But... I can show you.' He looked up and met her gaze, reptilian green eyes meeting her blue human ones. And finally he let his dragon out, Shifting so quickly  that one moment there was a boy, and the next there was a dragon. His jet black scales glowed a faint green, matching his eyes, and his wings unfurled until they were like a tent above him. It felt so good to be in his true form.
Astrid was staring at him with her mouth agape. 'Your a... Night Fury.'
Hiccup offered a Toothlesslike grin. He lowered his wings and slowly approached Astrid, who didn't seem to know what to do.
From further up the slope Hiccup heard footsteps coming this way. His ears shot up, then went flat against his head. He looked at Astrid once more, pleading silently for her not to tell, and slipped away back round the pillar. Luckily this time he didn't collide with anyone. He crouched behind some glowing ferns and listened to his friends, his breathing hard.
    'Where's Hiccup?' Fishlegs asked.
'I don't know,' Astrid replied, her voice admiringly steady.
Hiccup sighed in relief, turning away and staring out over the water. A flash of white caught his attention, and he followed it with his eyes until he saw blue and red eyes gazing out at him. He slowly stepped towards the Light Fury, who shrank back a little. But then when he was within two yards of her, - at least he thought it was a her - she sprang into the air and glided away gracefully, turning her head to watch him. Then she called out one word.
    'Come.'

idk

idk, I like this, plus any closer to nightfury and she'd probably just be a white nightfury- definitely keep the wing shape! I do like the idea of her being a sub species and not a female nightfury, because though lots of males and females of different species look dirastically different from each other, I just don't see nightfury being that way

...she can still cloak, right?

Oo, do you mind if I try to sketch an idea for her?
