Hunted ‹~(Closed Roleplay)~›
Uhhhhhhhhhh was that James???????
"it's just a random curiosity... but when Aki was crying a few of her tears landed on me and they felt like little balls of fire" Faolan replied. I looked down at the needle "Hm, I see" I said, tapping the side of the needle; I wanted to help Faolan and answer his question about Phoenix tears but I had no clue to what's special about them. I started to think. When I asked Faolan about his breathing.. he took a few breathes and than he muttered the word strange, was his pain worst before Aki tears fell on him? Hm, that's a question I got to ask him but with the needle ready to be injected, I spoke "Are you ready?"
((Sorry, for the delay. I'm at a restaurant celebrating my aunts anniversary and I just been gone all day))
Thats what I get for posting on the phone - ignore this double post
"As ready as I can be" I replied to Elizebeth, ready for what ever the shot would feel like. I watched the needle she held and was silent after I told her that I was ready.
((no worries, I spent most of the day trying to get my truck running again))
((I am a patient man, I don't mind the wait usually migth be one of the reasons why I have yet to find a gf, enough personall stuff back to the RP))
I watched as Elizebeth took out a fuzzy white ball and put some strange smelling water on it, it felt cold against my scales as she rubbed down the area that my cracked ribs were at, why did she do that? I thought to myself, I kept quiet though for I figured that it was apart of her medical procedure. She pinched my scales on my lower left side for some reason, I winced slightly because of a bruise that was close yet hidden by black scales.
I watched as Elizebeth removed a cap from her needle and placed it at an angle that would bypass my scales, "ouch" I said lightly as Elizebeth stuck the metalic point in me and pushed its plunger. She removed the needle from my side and put its cap back on, I looked at the oval shaped, beighe object she stuck on my scales and over the area she had stuck the needle in, humans are beige, must be ment to blend in with thier skin I thought as I shrugged off the thought.
"Alright, hopefully it works enough to dull the pain, thanks" I said as I shofted into a more comfortable position. "I think so, can't give you a clear answer, my memory is kind of fuzzy right now" I replied as I watched her take out a strange looking needle. I shivered slightly to get some of the water and mud off me, little bits of water flicked off of my spiny white mane ((is it just me or has everyone forgotten about this physical atribute of Faolan)) and unknowingly onto Elizebeth.
He found the med bay and and waited to be helped by a nurse. It took a little while for one to help him, they were all used to dealing with intimidating looking hybrids but they had never dealt with one that had been allowed to carry live fire arms. The Soldier was given several injections to ease his pain and bruises and speed up his healing. A second nurse was forced over to help the first with stitching up the Soldiers wounds
I sat infront of my personal computer, encrypting my latest report to the UN. On the surface it was the report that the higher ups had given him to fufil his double agent duties, but below the fake layer there was the report on the rebel group of hybrids that had escaped the Dome facility and the next soldier the scientists were working on.
I itched the metal aparatis on my spine, at times the thing was rather annoying. I knew that when it would be activated it would fall off to be reused to threaten another. I silently tahnk the UN for changing the posion out for a syrum that would make me a hybrid.
I smiled as I sent the encrypted letter, glad that the witch Cora could no longer watch me from her position as a secretary. If she had stayed in charge I would have been found out by now. I still watched what I was doing though for I knew she might try something if she caught wind of me.
Rita finished helping the others build shelters and walked over to her uncle who was resting under a tree. "I got us a shelter over here" She told him and lead him over to one of the shelters. The shelter was only big enough for two or three people. Rita sat down and started to clean the mud off of her feet. ' *Grumble Grumble* I wish I had some shoes right now...' Rita thought 'To bad no shoes would fit on my lizard-ish feet' she thought. Her uncle sat down and wrapped his coat tighter around himself to keep warm.
My face went a little hard when Elizebeth laughed lightly when she mentioned how who ever I fought knew what they were doing, "not a laughing matter when you fight a hybrid who looks like your father" I told her looking away for a second or two before looking back at her, "but is not that hybrid inside". I winced everytime she used her fuzzy balls with smelly water on them to clean my claw wounds.
"It's not your fault... you did not know" I told her, hearing the symapthy in her voice, "... It was at first but I realized that who I was fighting was just wearing my father's skin..." I said with a sigh, "this soldier like hybrid who wore my father's skin was the one who was able to inflict these sort of wounds... it takes a rather large hybrid or another dragon to get past dragon scales" I told Elizebeth with a small smirk. "... I saw my father though... only for a moment... but it was he who freed me and kept the soldier hybrid from shooting me and shot the human who had ordered the soldier hybrid to ki,ll me" I told the doctor, telling her the moment that was still followed me. It made little sense to me how there could be two different people in one body.
I clenched my jaw as Elizabeth began stitching up my deeper cuts, the strange curved needle creating a criss-cross patter across my wounds.
"Indeed we do, we just need to stay together and stay strong and with that we shall remain free" I said. I looked at Elizabeth when she said I gave the other hybrids hope and that my father would be proud, "I... I never thought of that... I'm still new to this leader thing, I never thought they would come to call me their leader" I said as I gestured with my right hand to the hybrids that were scrambling to make shelters, "but I am honored that they have... I have been alone for all these years that I blocked out my memories of my parents, I guess the sadness and the anger was to much for me to handle while I tried to survive on my own... but I think you're right, he would be.. him and my mother" I said with a small smile. I had closure on my father but my mother was still a mystery.
((finally came up with a name for my spy :D))
I stowed my personal computer and looked at the pile of paper work that I had finished before I wrote the two layer report to the UN, most of it was on the soldier initiative but a few were on my doings as a double agent I had been putting off turning them in for a few hours. I collected the papers, sighing for it meant I had to take them to Cora, that was reason I had put it off for so long, that woman gave me the creeps. I itched the apparatus on my back, it was her order that had put the thing on my back and I suspected she still had the switch for the device.
I smiled to myself as I left my office, it was like all the others and was very, very bland, she might have the switch but her nasty little poison is gone I thought to myself. Small victories. I blanked my face as I neared Cora's new office -no emotion=no worries (usually)- and let my knuckles rap on her door.
((hoping this might help your writers block Random. It's rather basic and should jog the mind a bit. Have at... though try not to hurt Spicer to much if Cora explodes on him))
((Spicer. Nice name XD And sorry, I’ll finish the memory soon. Um, Trity. Don’t remember what I did for his appearance, but he’s pretty wrecked like the first time around in the memory. Like his clothes are ragged and his skin’s cut and all. Looks like Ellie’s getting another patient :p))
By the time I arrived, I had been soaked wet through my clothes. The sound of thunder was nearing, though it was just a low rumbling for the moment. I saw most shelters were built if not already provided by the trees. I made my way over to Faolan and Elizabeth, feeling some eyes on me and the unconscious form of Triton. I really hope they don’t mind me bringing back another er fellow hybrid. Triton, hang in there.
I laid down Triton and flopped down next to Faolan to catch my breath. The doctor was working some stitches on Faolan. I merely nodded a greeting as I caught my breath. I considered what to say about finding Triton, awaiting the inevitable question.
I gathered the necessary materials and returned to see Tigerlily appearing as if she had just fought with a boar or something. Her fur and hair was all ruffled. Dropping off the logs, I began the building. “You all ok? Looks like you’ve been in a fight,” I said, concerned.
I was taken down twists and turns until my escort stopped me before a room, which I assumed to be Emberlyn’s. The man knocked on the door and was answered by a faint “come in” from the other side.
The man opened the door and pushed me in. It was a fairly small office with a neat desk and shelves all around. Stacks of paper and books laid all around, a computer busily clicking away. There was a seat on the door side of the desk with a woman across from it.
My assumption was correct- the woman sitting before me was Emberlyn.
Serephina and Sperehope
Sperehope had been chasing an escaping figure for a while. The figure was pretty fast, but she was faster with a great DNA combo to increase her speed and stamina. Basically, she was one of the fastest of the hunters, able to outrace just about anyone eventually. She was nearing the escapee, ready to capture when she heard clicking.
Immediately, the hunter recognized the voice giving the echolocation. It was Serephina. Her twin sister. Sperehope froze in mid motion and tensed. What was she going to do?
Rain drummed against the ground, the only sound standing out from the silence. The twins thought the same thing. Is it you?
“Sperehope?” Serephina dared to make the first move as rain began to fall in the woods.
Sperehope twitched an ear. She considered her options. Now’s the time to convince her to come with me before she reunites with the escapees.
“Serephina,” The hunter twin stepped out of her hiding spot behind some undergrowth.
She could see her sister waiting nervously for her to make an offensive move, but she kept calm.
“It’s nice to see you again,” Sperehope cracked a smile.
Serephina relaxed a bit. She was safe as of now. But with every passing second, she was losing time to regroup with the others, if they were already out of battle. The escapee felt guilty of running away from helping the escapees.
“Nice to see you, sister,” Serephina responded, nodding stiffly.
She shifted her weight from one foot to the other. If there was any chance, now was the time for her to try and convince her sibling to join the escapees and leave the Dome and the scientists behind.
“Sperehope,” the escapee twin spoke up. “Please come with me. We can escape the scientists together.”
Sperehope frowned. She expected this situation to come up some time. She already knew her answer. The government treated her well. She was comfortable the way she was. There was no need to have them turn on her. If Serephina came with her back to the others, she would have a chance helping the twin settle in and get comfortable. What else could a wanted hybrid wish for? She wouldn’t be constantly on the run anymore. The hunters wouldn’t be a threat, but rather a friend. She would have the government’s protection from whatever there was out there in this world. Most importantly, she would be with her- they could finally be together- no tension between them each time they met.
“Serephina, you know the answer already,” the hunter twin sighed. “I’d rather you come with me. I don’t want you to be continuously hunted by us. Not to mention, if you come, we can finally be together. I don’t want us to keep going on about this. Just come with me.”
She blinked pleadingly. Time was ticking and the rain falling harder. The hunter didn’t want to get into a lasting argument again. They only injured her heart, and she was sure it hurt Serephina as well. If only the escapee could understand Sperehope’s view.
Serephina casted her glance to the ground. She noted the harsher howl of the wind and the heavier pelting of the rain against her body. She didn’t wish for an argument either. And the weather foretold a storm. She had to go before she was caught in the impending storm.
“I’m sorry,” the escapee muttered before suddenly taking off through the woods, sending clicks out all around. But what she got in return was a jumble of different echoes, mostly of the falling rain which messed her up. Trying to figure out the echoes, she accidentally tripped and fell. Sperehope easily caught up, helping Serephina up.
“You ok?” she asked, anxious for her sister.
Serephina was shocked by the contact. She misinterpreted the action as one to catch her and leapt away from the hunter’s grasp.
“Don’t follow me,” she warned. “Unless you plan to come escape with me.”
It was painful to say those words, but she wasn’t risking returning to the cage she had just left. Serephina wanted to be free. And that’s what she planned to do. She ran off into the woods, ignoring the shouts of her twin sister after her.
Sperehope, stunned at first by her sister’s harsh response only shouted after her as the figure of her sister disappeared into the undergrowth.
But determination fueled her to follow for as long as possible so she could plan meet up with Serephina soon again. If there was anything she was sure of, she was not losing her sister.
I panted as I watched the other mantis slowly back away before disappearing into the dreary rain. I heard another crack of thunder overhead, and briefly thought of just flying away from Xenophon, away from the camp, away from everything, just to catch a few bolts of the wild electricity in the sky.
I let myself fall to the ground, tired from all the magic I had been using. I closed my three eyes and concentrated on drawing all my memories back to myself, locking them away again in the small cage of my subconscious. I also gently pushed all of Xenophon's memories back into his own subconscious, so both of our own past experiences stayed with us.
Once finished, I opened my eyes again, still hunched over with my wings spread out on the ground behind me. I listened to the rain patter against the leafy tent-like structure, letting the sound sooth me after reliving both Xenophon's and my own worst memories. The fresh scent the rain brought to the world was refreshing, and it helped ground me in the moment. I wasn't in that tank, I wasn't being hunted down by a queen mantis, I wasn't doomed to captivity, and I would find my brother again...
After a few moments of tense silence, I heard Xenophon's voice in the back of my mind, apologizing and saying he would understand if I yelled at him for his quick assumptions and awful reaction towards the other mantis hybrid.
"It's alright. You've been through your own fair share of terrible experiences." I thought back at him, staring at the cloudy sky through the tent opening.
I felt vulnerable after what had happened. Xenophon probably saw everything- my fears, wishes, worst and best memories... The heart of my mind, both the good and the bad.
I just needed some time away from everything after that.
"I... I'll be back in a few minutes. If anyone comes in, just give me a shout. I'll still be able to hear you and I'll come rushing back." I felt bad for abandoning him, but if I stayed I was sure I would explode, or cry, or just scream at him until I felt better.
I stood, brushing the dirt off my jeans as I exited the tent. I made sure my mind was closed off from his own and vice versa, with only enough leeway for us to communicate. I spread my wings, enjoying the tingle of the rain against my skin, and flew off into grayness above us, following the flashes of light.
Catching lightning was always fun, like capturing a fallen star. The energy would help restore me from my fatigue while providing a fun distraction from what just happened. I would only be gone for around 15 minutes, at the most. Surely nothing big could happen in that span of time... Right?
I was already starting on the task of finding a replacement for Harkness, and the various profiles of the workers in the facility were strewn across my wooden desk. Some were obviously not cut out for a job like this, while others seemed to qualify. I was currently considering a woman who was already in the Hybrid Hunter department. She was strategic- gaining the trust of the hybrids she was tasked to capture and/or control to make them easier to work with. She also had a weak point which could be pressed if she stepped out of line.
While thinking through the pros and cons of this woman- Emberlyn -another knock sounded on my door. Honestly, you'd think it was 'Bother Cora and later be Murdered' day. Except there was no murdering... Yet.
"Enter." I sharply commanded of the unknown individual on the other side of the door.
"And if I find you wasting my time, you'll be punished for it." I threatened, hoping to make them think twice before interupting my work with something unimportant.
I smiled at Elizabeth's comment, though it briefly retuned to a grimmace when she did another stich, I wondered to myself if the stiches were originally designed for humans soft skin.
Before I could comment or reply Aki made her way over, she looked like she was completely drenched that can't be good for a hybrid who is part phoenix, and then I noticed that she was dragging another hybrid, he looked like he was of aquatic genetics and in bad shape.
"Um... who might that be" I asked Aki as I gestured for Elizabeth to look at the new hybrid for he looked in no better shape than I was.
I smiled at Cora's threat, it barely held any water now that she was just a secretary. "I do believe the higher ups would have something quite nasty in store for you if anything happened to me" I told Cora with a flat voice as I set the stack of papers on her desk, "I do believe top secret paper work is worth while" I told her, I noticed that hse had profiles of any other scientists were on her desk, "replacing some one?" I quieried
Zachary Spicer. Of course. He set a stack of papers on my already cluttered desk while making a casual comment with underlying meaning. When he inquired about having to replace someone, I glared blankly at another person's profile- they seemed a good fit for the job as well.
"I'm still considered to be one of the 'higher uppers'." I replied, turning my venomous gaze to his blank face.
"And you are not authorized to ask the questions around here." I snapped.
It was mostly true. While I had been severely demoted, I still held quite a bit of power in the facility. I couldn't quite recall was Zachary's rank was, but I was pretty sure I was superior to him, still.
I watched as Elizabeth went to check on Triton, at least that was what Aki said his name was and I was inclined to belive her. I listened to Aki as she reported her findings, "I am sure that those who are still out collecting stuff for shelters will return in no time, after what happened this morning I am sure that no one will want to go very far from the group" I said to Aki as I tried not to shift in fear of messing up Elizabeth's stitches she had not finished. "Old friend from before the Dome?" I asked lightly, looking at Aki, I remember her saying something about having a sister and a better life before the Dome.
((I feel like doing him first for I find it funny that he is making Cora angry))
"This may be true but you must bring forth the fact that I am the one that keeps the UN in the dark on what actually goes on here and who is a part of the this fun little project" I said staring into her venomous gaze, arms crossed against my chest as I stood back from her desk. "I know you probably still have that ki,ll switch for the device on my back you had put on me" I said as I undid my arms and played with a pen that I always had clipped to the bill of my ball cap, "but before you think about pressing it I must tell you that I have made my own contingency plans against you... how do you think your higher ups would react when a large part of the soldier initiative winds up in the hands of the UN at the time of my death that will be on your hands?" I asked her, I was playing a game with death and if I made one miss step I would d,ie.
"I may ask as many questions as I want" I told her, breaking my blank face to smile lightly at her. I gave her a mock salute as I turned to leave, not wanting to be around if she exploded. I closed the door behind me but in the motion I left a pin sized camera on the door, I wanted to record every moment and sound of her reaction and if she made any crazed plans to frame or ki,ll me.
Scytha looked up as Lucy came flying out of the shelter and up into the sky. The other mantis hybrid did not appear to be with her. A few minutes passed,Scytha slowly walked towards the structure, she peeked in and saw that the other mantis hybrid was lying on his back with his legs in the air... was he de.ad? No,he was breathing... at least... she thought he was breathing, its kind of ha.rd to tell with bug hybrids. Scytha slowly backed away and walked towards where the other hybrids were. She saw the leader Faolan sitting under a tree, being attended to by Elizabeth,Tigerlilys mother. Aki was slumped next to him and it appeared that she had found an injured aquatic hybrid. They looked hungry. Scytha got a couple of the quails she had caught earlier and walked over to Faolan,Aki,Elizabeth and the unconscious hybrid and held out a quail, offering it to them. Elizabeth probably wouldn't want quail raw,but Faolan or Aki could most likely cook it for her.
I watched as Elizabeth checked over Triton, Aki confirmed my guess that he was a friend of hers before she had been taken to the Dome. Aki seemed to zone out for a short while before coming back and apologizing fro doing so, "don't worry about it, everyone has a moment where they zone out" I replied just before Elizabeth gave her observations of Triton, "good to hear for there are a few questions that will be needing answers when he wakes" I replied as Elizabeth returned to the last wound on me that required stitching.
When a mantis hybrid came over to us with a few quails and offered them to us I realized that I had not eaten that much at all besides the few berries and fish here and there. My stomach gave out a startlingly loud grumble at the thought of food and I clutched it lightly to ease the sudden pain, "thank you" I said to the mantis hybrid as I took one of the birds she offered, "might I ask your name?" I said to the hybrid, if I was to lead the group of hybrids I felt it proper to know all their names.
"Thanks, that's very nice of you" Elizabeth said to her as she held out a quail toward them. Aki asked if Elizabeth wanted her quail cooked. Faolans stomach rumbled loudly and he took one of the quails hanging on her claw. "Thank you" he said "Might I ask your name?" He questioned. Scytha stared at him for a few moments and then turned around and walked away.
The rain was still pouring down outside and it didn't seem like it was going to stop anytime soon. Rita leaned back against the side of the shelter that she and her uncle were in. Rita suddenly thought back to the hybrid Lucy and the golden fire, she was still curious about that. She got up and headed out of the structure "Be right back,I just want to ask Faolan a question" she told her uncle. She walked through the pounding rain towards the tree Faolan,Aki and Elizabeth were under, passing a green bug hybrid on the way. She walked under the tree and out of the rain. She noticed a hybrid that she hadn't seen before, the unknown hybrid was unconscious. Momentarily distracted from thoughts of Lucy and gold fire she asked "Who's this?" She looked at the hybrid,he had large webbing going from his fingers to his hips,silver-ish hair and a snake like tail.
((I've created a new character. His name is Clockwork. I now have seven characters. That's like, 3 too many. Help))
Oh, right. That old device. That was put in ages ago- I should have the poison switched out soon, since I had found some much nastier things I could use to permanently silence this thorn in my side. Unfortunately, he was right about the UN. While there were other precautionary soldiers an hybrids preventing the UN from discovering the truth about the Hybrid projects, Zachary Spicer was our main block, and of course he had no humility about the fact what-so-ever.
When he left, closing the door behind him, I automatically stood and checked for miniature cameras- I wasn't an idiot after all. I had gotten my original rank for a reason. I found a pin-sized camera left on the door and promptly crushed it under the heel of my shoe.
"Nice try, Spicer." I muttered before walking back to my desk to resume my work. I didn't have time for more foolish anger directed at the prideful spy.
I finished looking through the profiles, having to rush the job now that I had more paperwork to go through. In the end I decided Emberlyn seemed like the most suitable person for the position, so I quickly phoned in the main secretary (which was not myself) and assigned her the task of promoting Emberlyn to Harkness's rank to henceforth carry out and perform his abandoned duties. Finished, I started fingering through the thick stack of papers, curious as to what could be oh-so-important.
I was very disappointed to find simple reports detailing the latest mission to recapture the escapees, all from varying points of view. On the very bottom, three sheets of paper from my job-thief stated, in detail, that the mission was deemed an overall failure. With the large number of wounded and missing hybrids trumping our six measly prisoners, the venture was an overall 'waste of energy and resources' and it fell to me to arrange a more successful recapture mission.
I fumed. Since I was already buried in other work, arranging a whole new team of hybrids on top of getting Emberlyn ready to lead them would take several weeks, which would look terrible on my record. So, instead, I opted for the easier and faster way to get things done.
I picked up the phone again and dialed the main overviewer of one of our numerous projects. Once he had answered, I gave one simple order that would hopefully change the outcome of the Dome disaster.
"Release project Clockwork to take over the Escaped Hybrids case."
"Errr... Ok..." I said when the mantis hybrid looked at me and then walked away. I heard Elizabeth mutter that I was all done, "thanks Elizabeth" I said in thanks to the doctor, Rita came up to us just as the mantis was leaving and Elizabeth was moving on to Triton, she asked who he was, "his name's Triton, he is an old friend of Aki's from before the Dome" I told Rita. I grabbed the quail the mantis hybrid had given me and held it by the legs and then looked at Rita, "you might want to step to one side... I am still learning how to control my fire" I told her as I waited for her to move from the general path that my fire would go.
"His names Triton,he is an old friend of Aki's from before the Dome" Faolan answered her question. He held up a quail "You might want to step to one side... I am still learning how to control my fire" Faolan said, preparing to roast the de.ad quail. Rita stepped out of the way and sat down against the tree trunk. "Ugggh" She sighed "This cold damp weather isn't very good for the reptilian part of me" Rita said "But luckily I'm 67% mammal" She added.
((I believe it’s abandoned. Ugh I'm so out of it. My thoughts are all over the place. I’m likely not going to spend so much time rping over the break. Got tons of anime to catch up on and I just don’t wanna think so much, so sorry in advance))
"Uh, yes please. If possible" the doc requested.
As if on cue, Faolan’s stomach grumbled. I failed to suppress a giggle, covering my mouth with a hand to muffle the sound of my voice. I took a quail from the hybrid as well and turned to face away to hide my grin, working on skinning the quail ((There were a couple of quails, no?)).
From the corner of my eye, I saw Faolan take a quail and heard him ask the praying mantis hybrid for her name, only to receive silence in response. I glanced up quickly to make sure it wasn’t my hearing at fault. From the looks of it, the bug hybrid never did open her mouth to speak and was walking away. Shrugging, I returned to work plucking off the feathers.
But shortly after I resumed, I heard Rita ask, “Who’s this?”
I assumed she was asking about Triton, which I was ready to answer but Faolan got to it before me. I merely nodded in agreement.
"you might want to step to one side... I am still learning how to control my fire" Faolan added.
I raised an eyebrow, giving Faolan my full attention. I considered the possibility of helping him channel his flame, but decided against it. Things could go absolutely wrong...or he may surprisingly be good at it. I’d just keep watch of the trajectile of the flame and make sure to stop it before it reached any shrubbery. I sat back and watched, waiting to see how he would roast the quail.
Tigerlily briefly glanced towards where her mother was before facing me. “I wish I hadn't.. but yes, I had one not to long ago.”
I frowned for a second. “Man, that sucks. Better than a fight, but then again, you’d probably beat whoever would pick a fight with you.”
I put down the logs I held and went over to her and ruffled her fur on the top of her head before tackling her down to the ground playfully.
((I realized that I need a last name for Emby. Ah rip. That'll take a while to think up of))
Emberlyn casually gestured to the seat across from her for me to get comfortable in. In silence, and out of habit, I did as she offered.
The woman dismissed my escort with a flick of her hand and waited for the door to close before resting her gaze on me.
“Welcome back, Ryu,” she smiled pleasantly. “I’ve missed you dearly. I’m sure you’ve missed me as well.”
“I you too, indeed,” I returned the statement. “Something to talk about, there is. May I?”
Emberlyn sighed. “Yes.”
I cleared my throat and said what I came to say. “You know, being with you, I loved ever since birth. Kind to me, you were. But, during the time I was outside home, I’ve met others out there. And some of them I really like...another place where I can belong, I found. That I want to be in both places, I wanted to tell you- with you and with them.”
Silence then fell upon the room. The wrong move, did I make?
Emberlyn was never quiet like this. I felt some new emotion within me, like my heart was being wrenched.
I looked anxiously at the woman I had known for all my life. Never had I felt this feeling come from her.
I was certain she was going to be reasonable and allow me to go between the two places. But what I heard next crushed all my hopes.
“Ryu, dear…” She folded her hands and placed her forehead on them, propping her elbows on the desk. “I half expected an answer like that. Unfortunately, there’s no middle ground for that. And for your own good, we have to make sure you choose one way or the other.”
Looking up, she concluded, “So for the meanwhile, we have to keep you here.”
She got up and walked around the desk to the door and opened it. I looked out the door to see her talk to the escort from before. “Take him to a room. Keep guard 24/7.”
Turning back to me, she apologized. “I’m sorry, Ryu, but this is for the best.”
Then my escort grabbed me by my wrist and dragged me out.
“W-wait, Emberlyn! To exp-” I shouted, but was cut of by a yank, ending my sentence with a strange yelp of surprise.
“Pipe down,” the escort grunted.
I relented and walked along, glancing back at Emberlyn. But the woman was already gone from sight, the door closed. I sighed and concentrated on memorizing the paths through. Fortunately, it was just like learning the paths of the tunnels back at home. The paths did seem to have some sort of pattern to them. Only they led to different places.
When we finally came to a stop, there were many doors extending from each side of the hall. The escort stopped at one and opened it up with a key and pushed me in.
“Stay quiet and think. You’ve got all the time you want, but I don’t think you want to stay in there for long,” he sneered. “There’re better places to stay, if you really were that close to Ms. Emberlyn as I heard you to be.”
He closed the door and left me in the dark of the room, giving a similar feeling to the one of my previous home’s.
“Oh, to do, just what should I?” I mourned and paced the room. “Choose, I can’t ever. Here, if only Baske was.”
Little did I know, the room I was in had a faulty wall. A leaky pipe apparently ran through that wall and was dripping and breaking down that wall’s interior, allowing for voices to be heard through it.
Baske had been lying on the bed looking up at the ceiling. She saw,out of the corner of her eye, something pass by the window in the door of her cell. She got up and looked through the window, there was a human standing next to the door to the cell beside hers. The human appeared to lock the door before walking away. "Oh,to do,just what should I?" Baske jumped when she heard a voice coming from nowhere. "Choose,I can't ever. Here, if only Baske was" She heard the voice again. The voice sounded familiar... "Ryu?! Hi! Where are you?! Where am I!?" Baske called out.
I barely noticed Rita's actions and words for I was focusing on a strange tickle at the back of my throat that always came before my flame. ((just a bit on Faolan's anatomy)) There is a special organ connected to Faolan's digestive tract that collected all the methane that was produced by his slower metabolism inside of it and mixes it with a usually stable organic compound that his organ produces, this mixture creates a compound that is so volatile that on contact with air it burns; it is sprayed from a set of small slits at the back of Faolan's throat.
I coughed, it was the sort of cough you would hear when someone as a tickle at the back of their throats, to bring about the strange feeling at the back of my throat and opened my mouth wider and raised the quail up. A torrent of fire shot out of my mouth and continued roughly ten feet past the quail I held, this was what I meant by I could not control it, I could never make just a small flame, it was always full blast or nothing.
I snapped my mouth closed to stop my fire about ten seconds after I had started it, I was fine eating things raw but I hated the feathers that birds had on them and I had found that fire was the easiest way to rid them of their feathers ((feathers on fire XD)). Smoke curled out of my nose as my fire stopped, I coughed a couple puffs of smoke to finish it off and now I was ready to eat, "like I said, still learning" I said to no one in particular. I bit down into the partially cooked quail and began to sate my hunger.
I looked at Rita and quirked my head when she said she knew what her percentage of mamal was.
When his wounds were sealed up and his bruises diminished the Soldier left the medical bay, much to the relief of the nurses. He walked around the new complex, memorizing the place as to not get lost and was also looking for the training range. When he found the underground firing range he knew he would finally be able to get some practice in using live rounds. When the Soldier reached the range though there was a guard in a bullet proof booth that had a heavy door on the side of it that lead to the range, "go away hybrid, your kind does not have any permission to be hear" he sneered at the Soldier, not afraid of him since bullet proof glass was between the two. The however noticed the fire arms that the Soldier carried, "where did you get those?" he questioned, his finger hovering over a button that would call for reinforcements, "I have been granted permission to carry and use weapons by Cora" the Soldier answered, "do we now? Well let me call her witchyness up and see what she says" the guard responded while the Soldier just stood there.
The guard pressed a call button to Cora's room, "mam, soldier #01 is here at the range and is armed, doe he have permission to carry fire arms and use live ammo?" he asked hoping to not get an ear full.
Yes I know my name is just perfect.
Faolan blasted the quail with fire. The air smelled like burning feathers, Rita covered her nose with her hand "Ugh,you could of at least plucked it first" She said ((she doesn't know that Faolan decided to burn the feathers off instead of plucking them)) Faolan was giving her an odd look "What?" She asked.
"you know what you are and are not, did the scientist tell you what they put in you and the percentages?" I asked, remembering how Rita was origanally a human.
Rita listened to what Faolan said. "Of course I know! Since I volunteered to become a hybrid they let me choose what DNA they would put in me" Rita said.
"Right, right" I said as I recalled that discussion in the tunnels. It still confused me how she she had volunteered to become a hybrid, but then again all the hybrids I had met besides her had been forced into the Dome, "and what might those creatures be and do you think you can guess what I am made of?"
I placed an ear bun in to listen to the the audio coming from Cora's office and frowned when all I got was muffled and static-y. I should have know that Cora would have found the camera, she didn't make it to the position she had been at by greasing a few hands and being nice alone. I had my suspicions on where some of my coworkers had gone and who actually killed a couple others.
A grin grew across my face as I began to think of things to make her go batty. With humorous ideas and plans to discredit her I walked jauntily towards my office that was about half the size of hers.
"Right, right" Faolan said "and what might those creatures be and do you think you can guess what I am made of?" He asked. "Well I'm 50% human,17% Golden Lancehead viper.... 17% Smilodon and um 16% uh... Lizard" Rita answered "And you? Well obviously dragon... and I'm not sure what else" She said to him. She turned her he.ad and looked straight at Elizabeth "Perhaps you know what kind of hybrid Faolan is,Elizabeth, since you worked at the Dome" Rita said.
(( When Rita was deciding what animal DNA to have, she just wanted Smilodon and Golden Lancehead viper DNA,but decided to put some lizard DNA in as an afterthought, she told the scientists to just add a random lizard, nothing too fancy. So that's why she sounds so uncomfortable when saying she has lizard DNA because she just realized that she has absolutely no idea what KIND of lizard that 16% is.... so yeah kind of awkward ))
