getting rid of gems
i think we can all agree that gems are a bad system the rich get to have everything and the poor get nothing if the devs want to keep the gem system then make it easier to get gems such as put gems in quests maybe every five quests you get ten gems that way pepole arent overpowerd with fiftey dragons at level 2 but arent at level 32 with one gronckle this way pepole would have no reason to hack the game or at least reduce the number of hackers no one likes a unfair game no one wants to have to play to win if you support this comment #DownWithGems
Its actually pretty easy to get gems. There are stable quests that give gems (Construction zone is prob the best since it appears every other mission for its slot, and boulder dragons work the best). Also the battle events every two hours u get a chance to win gems. And daily rewards also give u gems on the third and fifth day.
Without gems there would be less paying players which means less income for the company which means less improvements and updates and bug fixes.
Well, the way I see it, you have two choices; either a Gem system, or a very limited Non-member/Member system.
The limited Non-member/Member system is where in order for you to access certain places and do certain things, you would need to be a member in order to do so. An example would be Club Penguin, where you can't even buy decent clothing unless you're a member.
It may seem unfair, but that's the world we live in. Knowledge Adventure needs money to pay for the servers that run the game. They also have to pay the employees, whether or not they did anything, and they have to pay for the building they are in, as they are a company, and they need a place for people to work. Sadly, without money, this game wouldn't exist.
What would you have instead? The game has to make money somehow.
Why would anyone bother buying coins? Almost everything gives you coins. If they switched it to coins then they would have to remove most of the ways to get the coins in order for people to be pushed to buy them. They'd just become the same thing the gems are only EVERYTHING would cost them.
Actually getting gems is alot easier than it used to be. When I first started playing in November 2014 the only free way to get gems was daily bonuses and completing offers/watching videos. Now you can do battles and maybe get gems as reward and do stable quests. Gronkles are available for coins once you reach a certain UDT number. They are rather cheap. If you have 3 gronkles you get 100% success rate on the Construction Zone stable quest. After that is completed all you have to do is trash the eel one that comes up and then send them out on the Construction Zone quest again. There's also a gem box in the mystery stable that gives you 300 gems. Granted, you have to buy the stable first but you get the gems back that you spent on it. You can only open the gem box once per viking account no matter how many mystery stables you have. I know for new players it is a bit tough to get started collecting gems but with h.ard work and determination you can do it. The game has to have a way to make money and they do this by selling gem packages, game cards, and memberships.
I agree with most of you. I think this game is very fair and reasonable as far as how you can get gems and also the $/gem ratio. My comparison is the other HTTYD game - ROB. I do play this game as well, but am constantly having to send real money on it to advance in any sort of timely fashion. Instead, in SOD I haven't had to buy gems since last Christmas. I actually bought some a few times anyway, just to be supportive.
The stable quests are the way to go. At worst, you would get 10 gems every 2 hours, approx (including time discarding the eel quest). 25 gems seems to be more typical. All you need is 3 boulder class dragons. You get a free Whispering Death eventually, you can pick a gronckle as a starter, you can get a gronckle for coins and I think the Snafflefang? is available for coins. You just need to work a little and save up.
Oh, and that glitch exploiting opening any boxes was supposed to be fixed a month or two ago.
But it's pretty easy to get gems. As people here have said, stable quest, daily rewards etc. If gems are taken out then everything is easy to get, no one pays real money, and the game dies from lack of funding within a few months. I think having a little patience for stable quests and logging on once a day is the best option for you, keep in mind the game developers don't owe you anything if you aren't paying anything for their services. Honestly, the fact that we can play the game for free with basically no drawbacks is very generous.
Let’s do this sensibly.
Coins are an accessible, cheap mean of trade in the game. Nearly everything you do gives the reward of coins.
Gems are a premium currency. It’s like comparing USD to Monopoly money; one has a lot of worth, the other is literally a toy. They can only be achieved through dedication; stable quests, logging in consecutive days, battles, etc. There are actually more ways to earn gems than earn coins, but they are given in smaller amounts.
If you want to get them quicker, then you can do small tasks like the ad offers or buy them with real money- this generates income for Jumpstart both ways. By advertising for others, they get paid. By you purchasing them in bulk, they get paid.
Now remove gems entirely from the game. They now don’t exist. Instantly, the value of coins plummet. According to the game, 1 gem=10 coins, but removing gems would push it up dramatically. For the sake of simplicity, let’s estimate that increase to be double, making a gem worth 20 coins. Now things that cost gems i.e. dragon eggs, would be selling at several thousand to tens of thousands.
If you play mini games constantly for an hour each day such as alchemy swap, you could earn up to a thousand each day. Now imagine if you were saving up for a Stormcutter, 800 non-member. That’s 8'000 coins with gems in the game, but 16’000 without. It would take over a fortnight to save up for that, excluding the cost of bait for fishing, animal feed, crop seeds and whatever else you might buy while playing. It would be taxing and unrealistic to expect children to dedicate that much time to the game.
Now back to the financial impacts. Presuming they don’t put up coins to buy in replacement to gems, they have already lost one major income source. Say they kept the advertisement but it didn’t reward you, the income from that would drop as well. Now since Jumpstart makes several games, it probably wouldn’t affect the entire company dramatically, but in the SoD department, there would be anarchy.
They would likely start losing money, or at the least have to reduce the pay given to the staff. Production and progress on the game would grind to a halt, it wouldn’t go anywhere and eventually they would have to either pause the game, or close it down.
That was a worst-case-outcome.
Something that could be done to ease the unbalance between members and non-members, gem prices could reduce by a small margin. Basic things like farm decorations could all be switched over to coins. Low-performing or unpopular dragon eggs could have a reduced price, say taking half of the 500 gem dragons down to 400 or 300. Give better ways of earning gems, like more gem rewards for stable quests.
Do you understand the purpose of gems better now?
What are you even talking about? What are you basing your statement on? How do the 'rich' have a benefit over the 'poor'? Please explain because I don't really see it. I'm not a member or anything, and I can accumulate enough gems for the things I want.
I don't understand the rest of your post at all.
I agree with Varku.
I can't see why people love to complain about gems. They are so easy to come by. You can farm the bottom left stable quest, farm with fake emails, or just watch 15 second vids over and over again, not to mention battle chests and the daily prize. YOU CAN GET LIKE 200 GEMS A DAY IF YOU FARM THE QUEST AND DO A FEW BATTLES! That is what i did to get gems. And if this is not generous, i don't know what is.
I think I don't have to write anything anymore, I totally agree with all these people saying that getting gems is pretty easy even without membership and also the game needs money to keep running so yeah, no offense but the gems must stay there.
