So I think we were talking about it on this thread: It's Friday...

So how about it? Some of us here, who are on a lot, could become volunteer moderators of the forum. This way, the spam could be removed on weekends when the actual admins aren't on.

Of course, you'd have to apply, be on a lot, and maybe have to be 13 years of age or older...?

Maybe the volunteers could get an exclusive title, like Volunteer Moderator?

I think this would be VERY useul.

It would require a background

It would require a background check on each volunteer to make sure that they aren't abusing their power

Yeah, I think each one would

Yeah, I think each one would have a list of posts removed that only the admins could have access to. And if they removed something that wasn't inappropriate or spam, they'd lose their privledges.

I agree, the spam is getting out of hand, this is something we need to keep the forum up.

I agree with this.

+1

I think this would really help with the spam, and maybe with other things too like deleting posts with too much arguing/trolling/bullying/etc. going on. And if anyone doesn't do their job right or abuses their power the Admins could always take it away from them and give the job to someone else.

I see no problem with this suggestion. The Admins need to consider it.

Would the admins have to give

Would the admins have to give the volunteer mods the power to delete posts, so they could get rid of spam?

Yeah, they would. But if the mod abused this and deleted non-spam posts, they'd lose that privledge.

I think this is a great idea. However, it could take a lot of work to implement, and there are bound to be users who abuse their power. Not only that, but the posts would keep coming, considering there would be users spamming them. These "volunteer moderators" would have to delete posts consistently, and that could be a problem. Even with these downsides, I still think this idea might have a chance at success.

It probably would take some

It probably would take some time, but the users wouldn't just be able to become a mod if they wanted to. They'd have to apply, and the admins can choose whether or not they become one. And I'm thinking if they abuse it, they lose their title as mod and another user gets picked to take their place.

I completely fathom that, but there could be some users who could have a clean background and pretend just to get their position. I understand that it may not be likely, but it is very possible. Deleting posts consistently could be annoying for "volunteer mods" as well, and they could abandon their jobs if they get bored.

I like the idea. I've only

I like the idea. I've only been around a few days on the forums, but obviously I've noticed the amount of spam posted, mostly at night. I imagine the best way to implement this would be to find mods from different time zones for activity levels. And perhaps instead of permanently deleting, they'd move the posts into a delete file, almost like the Trash for your email, so the administrators could see what was deleted, and then move to ban those users on their time. I can't imagine the administrators would be super comfortable handing banning powers to anyone right off the bat who hasn't proven themselves trustworthy and capable of conducting themselves in a professional manner.

I'd also say that there'd have to be an application process, and probably a trial period like probation, to make sure there's no abuse of power going on. The administrators would likely want to do something akin to an interview through questions of whoever they'd choose for the position, as well.

I think a different solution would be to hire admins that work a night shift instead of "volunteer moderators."
