I am sure people would say that 'I shouldn't tell the staff what and how to do their job', but seriously... Everyone can tell that the people charged with keeping the forum organized aren't on the top of the situation.

 

I would suggest the following:

  • Forum section descriptions/Stickied posts about what the specific forum sections are for - I see that people normally don't know where to post their threads because they don't know where it belongs. A better, more detailed description and a stickied topic should say what is supposed to go into the forum section it was posted into. The current forum section descriptions don't help at all. They are too general and basic. And people apparently don't understand them.
     
  • Active staff watching forum sections and move threads that are out of place - According to what I see, this is one thing that this forum is missing. I see no topics moved if they are out of place, I am not even sure if you can report out-of-place threads so the staff can move them. If there are such people, then consider hiring more or taking volunteers, or swap the current forum staff charged with this.
     
  • Better forum order and no repeating and confusing forum sections - I have noticed that there are sometimes forum sections which are in a way repeating and the people keep posting sometimes into one and then the other, unsure where their thread belongs. These are my suggestions:
    1. Announcements:
        a) General Announcements - Staff only posts. This isn't for members to post their own announcements, clan stuff and whatnot.
        b) New Features - Staff only posts. This isn't the suggestion section to post requested new features.

       c) Latest Support Updates - Staff only posts. Not the section for questions regarding the game.
    2. Support
       a) Customer Support is a little difficult to understand for younger players. It should be renamed to something simple. Like... Game Help. It would be far more clear what belongs here.
       b) Technical Support - No problem with this.
       c) Bug Report - No problem with this.
    3. Mobile - In all its forum section description it should clearly say that it is for mobile apps only.
    4. What forum section you don't need: New Players (This is what Game Help, General Discussion and Player Tips are for)

  • New rule concerning duplicate posts - It should stand within the rules that people should avoid creating duplicates when it comes to ideas or discussions. There shouldn't be a thousand threads asking for Boneknappers. Have one thread and have people post into that one.

  • Search Feature - In order to back up the 'no duplicates' rule, we would need a search feature, which enables us searching through specific forum sections for titles, finding already posted threads.

  • Dragon Suggestions - I don't think we need separate threads when people ask for dragons to be implemented. I think a stickied thread within Suggestions board is enough for suggesting dragon kinds instead of littering the board with 'I want this dragon in the game' threads, pushing down other suggestions.

lol sorry if you feel that way. But no, it wasnt just your topic, but I have seen a ton of such posts before, especially in the Announcements section and it made me realize just how many topics are posted in sections they dont belong, and apparently the forum staff doesnt care. Hence why I made the suggestion.

Lazy staff and dumbfounded players.

The staff don't care too much about the quality of the forums so I doubt they'll fix everything, though I have seen a few topics moved to their correct places every once and a while but that doesn't really cut it.

While it is our goal to create an organized and easy to use forum for players to connect with friends, discuss the game, and report issues they have around School of Dragons, it does take some time to review ongoing threads, fix any bugs, work with our tech and production team and help individual users’ accounts as they come in. Please keep in mind that the forum is actively used by 3500+ daily users, accounting for almost 32,000 posts, which increase by day. With the high level of activity on the forum, we do prioritize addressing some of our more pressing requests and issues, including bugs, glitches, and type of issues preventing players from continuing their adventures at School of Dragons. However, we understand your frustration with how the boards are being managed and will do everything we can on our end to clear up some of the confusion when it comes to players understanding ‘where’ to post.

 

With your feedback in mind, we will be working with our team to better organize threads and assure that topics are properly managed and clearly labeled. After all, the forum is designed to make sure that each and every player has the ability to get their voices heard by our team and that they are able to discuss their game feedback with their fellow Dragon Trainers.

I understand that SoD is growing every day and there are more and more things to do, but the right answer to this is: Hire more staff/accept trusty volunteers. Because sadly the fact that you have too much to do is not a valid excuse. If you know you cannot handle the responsibilities because of the scarce number of staff and the growing number of members/problems, then the best acton is to raise the number of staff that is working to function at proper capacity for the growing problems and tickets coming in.

 

I am sorry if I sound blunt, but this problem is getting more out of hand as time goes by. And there was still nothing done.

Totally agree with you there, I've never known a forum to have only one admin. (I have seen another but they are clearly not active). I think the same goes for the every aspect of the team as well- these hackers have been here 3 weeks now and are still hacking, bugs do constatnly pop up in a game like tihs but the rate that they are fixed is a bit sloppy. From what I hear their customer support leaves a lot to be desired as well.

Going back to the main post- I would love a search engine for existing threads- especially now when we are trying not to double up on reporting hackers.

A topic where you can

A topic where you can introduce yourself can be easily put into 'General Discussion' or 'The Great Hall'. For this one aspect one doesnt need a whole forum section. Especially because this forum section is mainly used for questions and tips, which one post in their rightful forum sections to 'Player Tips' or 'Customer Support'.

Bumping this because omg we really need this like... right now. This website looks like a tornado swept over it. Everything is everywhere, spamming, duplicate threads, cluttered forum. This can chase me away soon from this game... I love forums and love posting into them but this looks like a trash pile right now... Where is the staff???

i do agree it's really annoying seeing the same topics over and over.. its the new players who don't know how to navigate yet >< (we can always tell them to move their posts in the right section :3)

the admins take care of the spamming as soon as they can.. although i think it would be handy if the forum users can have an option to 'report' a post so it could just.. vanish o.o

I understand that they have a weekend, and I wasnt posting this bump because I did not get a reply in a few days. I was posting this bump because it has been a few months already and this is getting worse as the time goes by.

 

Reporting sadly is not enough. We would need active staff watching the forums even on weekend (It is NO excuse that it is weekend and no staff member is watching the forum). We would need mods watching their own forum sections no matter which day it is. That is how a normal and neat forum works.

 

Spamming from bots is one thing, but spamming from players is not handled properly if at all. Sadly. Indeed in order to avoid duplicate threads, we would need a search feature as well. We would need a rule that no duplicates should be created and lock those which are duplicates. -sigh-

And not only that, but it is impossible to find any official staff announcements because people spam that section horribly. They don't seem to understand that Announcements is for STAFF announcements only, and not for regular members to post their own 'announcements' or clan stuffs. It is a section where we can find all the news about updates... I thought it is common sense...

I agree, there are too many boards so it scatters us and we often never frequent the lesser visited boards. I just made a mistake today by posting in "suggestions" because I didn't even know this board existed. I think consolidating the boards would make it much simpler to find new and relevant topics without having to jump around so much.

Signatures...

I know this will make me unpopular, but I'd love to do away with the enormous, ridiculously gif-laden signatures. I've actually disabled images on the forums because I found a lot of my data was being sucked by this forum. I don't like to do this because it means I don't see any of the pictures in actual posts, but it's the only solution I currently have since I don't have unlimited data.

 

I strongly suspect these monstrous signatures are what causes the forum slow-downs, but I don't know that for sure.

 

It would be nice if users could, perhaps, have a profile or something where they could put their pictures and sparklies and bouncies and anti-hacker banners  and all that detritus instead. 

 

*runs away before the gif mob attacks*

Even if it is old, I like to keep it afloat. In no way is this an invalid suggestion. It is still live and I welcome replies and comments at any time.

I also agree with the sig, but there are already suggestions regarding sig length somewhere around here, so I did not include it in this one.

I fully agree to what you are saying and would like to ad, maybe they could include an explenation of titles here on the forum. If people who wants the titles knew how to get them it would also cause less of a mess; at the moment all we know is that if we post and comments lots our titles change after a while...

 

However atm I think the admins should focus on fixing a propper protection against hackers for the game, the forum is great sure; but compared to the game itself the forum is heaven lol. (in a matter of speaking)

 

Anyway great posts, very good points; I look forward to seeing both the game and the forum in a few years. I think this game is gonna be amazing! :)

In no way would this organization mean any effort at all for the admins if they would accept forum moderators. They could take care of the forum, organize it, while the admins can concentrate on the hacking and security issues at hand. less work for them, better for us.

Either way they are needed ideas and I truly hope the admins give it a good look, I did see Brynjolf (can't spell) make a comment so atleast they have noticed.

As for payment, I am on a lot of sites which doesnt pay for their moderator teams. But if they do wish to pay the moderators, then there is always the option to pay them with ingame money (gems). That will not cost them a cent.

There are many volunteers who would just do it out of wanting to help. There are plenty of such people here on SoD as well. Sites handle choosing with applications. You have to put in some information and there are some questions regarding moderating a forum. (like: what would you do if a member did this or that, how would you handle it, what would you say, etc)

 

One can choose very good staff this way. The sites I am on do it this way. Or they first become 'helpers' who answer questions and help with handling customer problems. And if they do well, then they can become moderators.

to be honest kinda sounds like a fun thing to do lol XD as a programmer I also often feel like organizing things myself... but I'd probably have to work for them or I'd be a hacker XD lol

 

I really hope they consider this, and paying in in-game gems sounds genius honestly man (girl? XD who knows) Anyway I still think the admins are over their heads like you said, hopefully they'll follow your advice and get some more people.

I love these suggestions, and it's true that the forum seriously needs maintenance. An explanation of where stuff goes would be really helpful; I try to use common sense, but I slip up sometimes (normally because I copy the location of other mistakenly placed threads). I wish they would choose some players to be forum moderators- I'd happily volunteer.
