Fishing Minigame

I had an idea for a Fishing minigame, where you ask Mulch and Bucket (or a new fisherman character?) to help him whilst he's fishing. You're taken to an ocean setting and you're flying on your dragon.

So there are two things you have to do:

  • Help the fisherman reel in fish by scaring them.
  • Defend the boat from hungry wild dragons!

So for the first point, perhaps there's agitated water and when you skim over the water, the shoal of fish move in the opposite direction from where you arrive, so you have to sort of 'herd' them into the fisherman's nets.

But there'll be dragons too! Wild dragons won't resist the temptation of an easy meal. There could be Thunder Drums, Scalldrons and other sorts of dragon that might have a go at the ship, and it's up to you to fend them off with your dragon's fire and aerial skills! Why aerial skills you ask? Well, the dragon isn't going to let itself get hurt is it? Mwhahah!

So you have to balance herding the fish and defending the ship, or you'll lose fish at the end of the session! Perhaps there could be multiplayer where you can reap more rewards, but the difficulty will also increase!

For rewards, there would be Dragon exp, the potential Fishing exp, and a percentage of the fish you saved depending on your level, of varying types (it's the ocean so the fish are eels, salmon, halibut, herring). Maybe depending on your fishing level you get better kinds of fish as you progress, so at first you're more likely to catch eels and herrings, and when you're high up you catch more salmon and halibut, but of course still the odd herring or two :3

It would be so useful for acquiring fish en masse for when you're constantly racing at the Thunder Run, and it'd give you more of a reason for your dragon to let loose it's fiery wrath! But of course, the mini-game has to be challenging, so when you get a big fishy bounty at the end you totally get that sense of achievment!

What do you guys think?

I like this. It would be fun, and I mean really, we've seen in the show that the dragon riders do this, so shouldn't we? We're supposed to be helping Berk as well as ourselves, after all.

My only concern is the fish reward. Obviously a game like this would only be available to adult dragons and their riders, but it could still make fish-gathering a little too easy. People may start playing only the minigame and stop fishing normally, thereby nulling the point of the bait and special rods. Perhaps a starter fee? And naturally an energy cost, like the other minigames, so perhaps I'm just rambling now... Heh, sorry.

But yeah, I like the idea a lot. Besides, battling other dragons in epic aerial dogfights would be awesome~ (Just don't ignor the fish!)

Good Point

Perhaps you can only do it once a day, or you have to wait for so long until you can play again. I mean Berk doesn't need to go fishing ALL the time, right?

Besides, with the challenge of it, I'm sure the amount of fish people would collect wouldn't be much, especially if they have to spam-feed their dragon afterwards for losing energy like in all minigames ;D

Quest?

Maybe you have to unlock the minigame after a quest that requires so much fishing level... say like level 10 or something. XD That way your dragon noms up half your prize fish unless you starve it to death, and you have a few left over just in case...
