Fire-in-Flight Animations

After over a year of them disappearing with no reason whatsoever, fire-in-flight animations have yet to return. . .or do they? I mean, of course they should. . .but I've come to realize that they actually didn't disappear! Allow me to explain.

As we all know, Razorwhips are the only dragons that have any sort of animation when you fire while you're flying on'em; they simply open their mouths and there's a slight neck movement to it. And then I wondered, "Is this animation the same one that plays when you're firing on the ground?" I roosted with a Razorwhip on one of my Vikings and discovered that the firing animation the Razorwhip has on the ground/when landed is indeed different from when it's flying.

Now you must be wondering, "Why does this even matter?" Well, this is where the "they didn't actually disappear" thing comes in to play. For whatever reason, Razorwhips are the only dragons that have a separate animation for firing in the air and firing while on the ground; not even Toothless has this distinction. So what does this all mean? Well, it means that there were technically no fire-in-flight animations to begin with. . .other than for the Razorwhip of course. The admins/developers simply just fixed things so that the fire animations for dragons when they're on the ground wouldn't play when they're firing while flying; seems reasonable enough. Dragons like the Skrill have an. . .over the top firing animation when they're on the ground, not that I'm complaining about it. However, when that animation is applied when they're flying. . .it looks wonky. The wings bend unnatrually and clip into each other when the dragon does that pose. . .thing, whatever it's called and the dragon's head will stay to the left until the animation ceases, which was when the dragon looked normal again.

That all being said, do I think it was a good idea to remove these animations? No. Not all dragons went wonky when firing in the air and some had ground animations that worked pretty well in the air as well; Toothless and other dragons who share his firing animation are excellent examples of this. If no actual fire-in-flight animations were actually going to be made and implemented, there's no reason to remove it. At least the dragons opened their mouths when they went wonky; now when a dragon fires, it comes from their neck or a closed mouth. I think I'd rather deal with a dragon's wings acting out of the norm for a few moments than nothing at all. My solution? Make actual fire-in-flight animations for ALL dragons! If the Razorwhip could have it, why can't the others have it as well? Now, do I think this will happen? Taking into consideration all the problems the game has and/or had previously and how long those took to fix, let alone even be addressed by admins than the issues were being worked on, I highly, highly doubt anything will be taken to fix this. I'd honestly be surprised if an admin even took the time to read this, let alone respond.

Of course, I'm always hoping School of Dragons proves me wrong whenever I have that kind of mind-set but I'm not going to be too optimistic either. That way if things do get fixed or things change in a positive direction, I'll be pleasantly surprised but I won't be bummed out or anything when nothing happens or something gets worse; expect the worst, hope for the best my friends.

TL;DR: Only Razorwhips officially had fire-in-flight animations, hence why all the other dragons don't have them anymore; developers changed it to where the fire animations that play when the dragons fire on the ground don't play when they're in the air. Solution: They just need to make the dragons fire-in-flight animations. Will they do it? Probably not.

I could of course be wrong on all of this but this was just an observation I've made recently.

Wow... I didn't know that! I don't know how you go to so much trouble to find all that out XD. But then again, most days, when I don't work, I'm as lazy as grump.

Hi! Welcome to my signature!

I'm Racer, a beserker. I am from the clan, The Gaurdians of Dragon Cove. I am an experienced dragon rider, as me and my Slithersong Melody, Sword Stealer Spear, and Terrible Terror Dizzy,  have teamed up with Valka to find and save injured dragons.

I often am found at battles, as I would do anything to save dragons. I am most like heather, astrid, tuffnut and valka mixed up. My double axe is just like heathers, only it has some improvments inspired by hiccups dragon sword, and Valka's staff. I would describe myself as brave, secretive, calm, quiet, independent and clever.

Me! ( real life )

Yeah, honestly I feel like I over analyzed it. xD I'm not sure why the idea passed my mind now that I think about it. . .but maybe now that it's out there, maybe we can encourage these animations to be implemented! Alongside the. . .*cough* other much needed animation changes and bug fixes.

Back in 2015 when the Razorwhip was originally released, it had many animation glitches and people were disappointed that they used the Toothless model for its movements and its fireball was not true to its breed (blue, not orange/red).

After several months of the community demanding for these issues to be fixed, they eventually released an updated version of the dragon. However, they didn't update the fireball until they released the Titan about a year later, which is the blue streaming fire that you see now.

Very few dragons have been lucky enough to be re-animated, let alone have a physical characteristic changed (fireball in this case) and this might be why the Razorwhip has been blessed with open-mouth firing during flight. It received more than average attention from the game developers at the time. It was also one of the first expansion dragons to be released for sale separately before the release of the expansion, which was considered a premium dragon. So, this could factor into why it was given extra attention as well.

Personally I preferred the original fireball (see below), it was a lot of fun. XD

Yeah, I remember that; it reminds me that the Shockjaw could be so much worse! XD Though that doesn't exempt it from needing an animation update. . .

I have to agree with ya on the fireball, it looks awesome! Making it blue would've been even cooler but I can't complain that they went with a fire significantly more similar to the one in the show.

i barely read the whole thing but this makes quite a bit of sense, ive seen the in-flight firing animation for the death song on youtube and the glitches that happen while its firing were... well, terrible, so even though i barely read this the thought of in-flight firing animations being a bug actually makes a lot of sense to me, the censored that happened to the death songs wings when firing in flight were horrendus

dear dev team, you have a great game here considering the type of game it is, the size im assuming your team is, and what type of game your trying to make, but you cant keep pushing out new content when theres so many game breaking bugs that prevent players from doing things in the game, for example, how are we supposed to enjoy new content, and expansions, when theres multiple bugs across multiple expansions that cause you to not be able to progress? my prime example being the ice bridge in the quest "the golden room" from the icestorm island expansion

im the type of person who plays things in order of release, so until i can get past this quest and finish icestorm, i cant move on to the expansion that came out next, and in turn, any of the expansions after that, i cant enjoy all the content the game has to offer, and it feels like all you care about is pushing out new content instead to make money, your a company, you need to make money, i get that, but you also need to keep your playerbase happy, and right now, thats by fixing all these bugs that make us unable to progress in quests and expansions

despite what we might say out of anger or annoyance, at the end of the day all any of us complaining about this want is for the game to be the best it can be, we want whats best for it, but that isnt happening while you constantly ignore the bugs and work on making new stuff

i feel like one of the issues here is the amount of games your trying to run, most of if not all of your other games are dead, school of dragons is your best and most popular game, and your overwhelming and overworking yourselves trying to keep all these other dead games up and running, so i suggest you shut down the other games, minus maybe neopets, because ive heard people play that game for nostalgia, and focus on school of dragons

new content is important to keep players yes, but so is keeping your game bug free, and a lot of these bugs are game breaking, like i said, how can i keep playing if i cant progress because the archaeologist is too stupid to cross the ice bridge on the second to last quest of icestorm island? fix bugs like these and then you can create as much new content as you want

oh, and even if these are small bugs, maybe fix bugs that have been in the game for over a year now, like the no dragon firing animation while flying, i personally can live without it, but if this bugs been in the game for over a year im pretty sure it needs to be fixed, but not before the quest bugs

toothless is NOT a titan wing

reason 1: that glow that people love to mention when they say hes a titan wing? thats just the glow he got from challenging the alpha, no dragon has ever gained a glow upon becoming a titan wing (from my understanding anyway, even if they have this still isnt that)
reason 2: the fins on his back, a lot of people love to think hes a titan wing because he can split his back fins now, but the titan wing stage is permanent, it has a rare chance of happening in a dragons adult years (lore-wise anyway, obviously it has to be different for a game) and it is a permanent change, so those fins cant be part of him "being a titan wing" because he can control them, they arent permenantly split in half, and this isnt even something he learned to do on his own, valka (hiccups mum) "unlocked" this ability by pressing 2 fingers behind his head and moving them around in circles, then his back fins split in half, ever since then hes been able to flap them open and closed at will, so thats reason 2 why he obviously isnt a titan wing
reason 3: when a dragon becomes a titan wing they have a lot of noticable differences to them compared to the normal version of the dragon, and they get a fair bit bigger than the dragons normal counterpart, reasons 1 and 2 aside, toothless has no changes to him at all, and even then the glow and his back fins dont really count as changes, because a glow isnt a physical difference and his fins are just split, and toothless isnt any bigger than he already was
so no, toothless, despite what you might think, is NOT a titan wing
