In Finding Your Dragon | How did you get your dragon back to Berk?
For some of us, our dragons weren't located on the sunny side of Berk. It's not exactly a hop, skip, and a jump back to the island either. So for the lucky few who found their match on a different island, how did you get your dragon back to Berk?
ooooo tracking! ill post my story later
Seems fun, I'll post mine later as well. ^^
Oooooohhhh, Tracka'lackin! I have a good backstory of how Robin trained her Hackatoo, Cackatoo, & I don't usually brang but dare say its pretty original ^^ It's not finished yet, since I'm putting a lot of work into it, but i'll post it as soon as possible ;D
(I knew this was your thread when I saw the title.) XD
Well, Whisper found her dragon on Berk; I just wrote in why Winterwind was on Berk in the first place to justify it. And she found Icevein on Berk when Johann accidentally brought his egg there. Even Sparrow was a Berk Terrible Terror. So all my/Whisper's dragons were technically found on Berk even if they weren't from there. I guess Norbert's dragons and Ylva's dragon were found off Berk, but generally an established dragon (usually Winterwind) is involved in finding them and bringing them back to the Hooligan isle. So I'm probably not helpful. But I'll track this to read other's stories.
So, when I found Toxin, my Flightmare, I was far away from Berk, near the Beserker islands. There was a wild Flightmare terrorizing them, and I owed them a favor after I saved the cheif from Speed Stingers with my blade, Cleardancer. Sadly, i had to cut off one of the dragons' stingers, but i am working on a prototype for a replacement. Anyway, I was called by my brother, Tarben, to come help with the Flightmare, being able to speak Dragonese. It was a long flight, but within two days, I made it with Glacierstorm. I landed on the boat tethered at the docks, surveying the strange orange glow in the air. When I saw the Flightmare, I knew it was different. It landed at a stream full of glowing algae, and it was also glowing orange! That must be where it gets its unusual color from!
The twins tried to sneak up on it to muzzle it, but it saw them before they could get close. It flew up and roared violently at them, spraying them with orange paralyzing mist.
It looked around the clearing the stream was in, noticing the riders with their dragons.
After realizing that it was going to be attacked, the Flightmare flew around the clearing, blasting anyone it could see.
After everyone was frozen, it landed in front of me, its mist glowing threateningly in its mouth.
Now on the ship, it had the power to k.ill everyone. However, it simply settled itself down and started eating what little algae had sprayed onto the boat.
I walked towards it, holding a handful of algae. It sniffed at it curiously, then lapped it up like a kitten with milk. It pushed its snout against my hand, and knocked me over. It walked to my side and layed its head in my lap, falling asleep within minutes. The riders, seemingly unfrozen, walked onto the ship's deck, their dragons with fire glowing in their mouths. I held up my hands, and shrugged, completely confused. The flightmare opened an eye, and i could tell it liked me. I looked at my clothes, and realized, I was covered in algae, making me glow. I wondered if it was toxic, and that was when i thought of his name~ Toxin. We sailed back to Berk, and it flew around. It found my hut, and walked inside, laying on the dragon stone. Well, I guess this dragon is mine now...
Dubstep, my Death Song was found on an island some where near dragons edge after Ruakth was sent adrift after a storm (see backstory in sig).
Dusbtep was found as a baby in a trap (only way I figured that a Death Song could be tamed) and after his release and feeding by Rukath, Dubstep helped fix the mast on Rukath's "borrowed" boat with amber and together they sailed back to the Edge and then managed to get a ride back to Berk where his few friends resided
I don't actually have a story for that yet... I'll post it when I do!
Sorry. It used to have paragraphs but then something happened.
Tracking. Will post later.
My first encounter with Blizzard happened when I was very young, I was seperated from my parents and clan at the time, during a bad snow storm on either ScuttleClaw Island or Icestorm Island. We we trying to help establish a community at the time I think...More on the encounter below in my signature...After bonding with Blizzard, and being reunited with my clan and parents, we felt really sorry for the little dragon, since he didn't appear to have any parents to care for him. So, they decided to let him come with us on on board our ship. To our surpise, one of his parents was alive and looking for her baby. She spotted him with us and you could imagine what went through her mind...As she flew faster toward us as a protective mother hen guarding her chicks, Blizzard of his own accord stepped betwen us and his mom, and apparently talking with her. I tried to remain calm as I had heard one of the orignal dragon riders say, 'You have to show them that you mean no harm.' So, after reassuring my parents, I calmly and slowly approached the mother Snow Wraith, with a herring in hand as a gesture of peace. She looked at me, then at her baby and back to me.
I noticed then, that one of her wings had what looked like arrow scratches from near misses..."Hunters? This far north?" I thought. No wonder she was leary of us, she's hurt. I tossed the fish over to her, and held hands up, showing her that I meant no harm, at the same time asking everyone to lay their defenses down to gain her trust. The look in her eyes, now seemed to change from furious to one of warmth. I held out my hand toward her, and felt the cold scales brush up against my palm. We were able to then care for her wounds, but she would have difficulty flying again as well as providing for her baby. So, I gestured to her, the baby, then pointed to the fish, then me handing it to him repeatedly. She seemed to understand some basic sign language. As it turned out, she had become deaf from a run in with Dragon Hunters and couldn't hear her baby from so far away. Which is why she was looking for him so frantically. I gestured to the cave where Blizzard led me, then the fire, then me. Now she seemed to understand that her young dragon saved my life, just as I saved his. We seemed now to have a mutal respect for one another.
With that, she nudged him toward me, letting out a puff oof cold air from her nostrils. She was now trusting me to care for her baby! I looker into her eyes, nodded, letting out a puff of air from my nostrils as well. With that, we left for our island. My parents urged me to consider going to Berk to meet Hiccup and Fishlegs, since they had an in depth knowledge of how to train dragons and could be an aid for me as I grew as well. With that, I made arrangements for Blizzard and I to board the next ship heading to Berk. Before I left, my parents and I made arrangements with our clan to care for Blizzard's mother and to visit her with Blizzard as he grew until the day when she woke up no more...which was sad for all of us, but since then, Blizzard and I have become close friends looking out for each other.
I have since met and trained other dragons bother from Berk, Icestorm Island, Dragon's Edge, Impossible Island and beyond...but I'll save those stories for another time!
I have already made to parts to my backstory located in the fan fic area. :D
Back to Berk? Well, I suppose that could be accurate considering I'm currently visiting Berk, and I like to help out the Dragon Riders when I can, but this particular island is not my home. Nevertheless, I'll tell you how I met my dragon. First thing you have to know is that he's the production of a male Sand Wraith and a female Woolly Howl, and I'm not particuarly sure how he ended up on the island where I was born, but here's the story I do know.
I was young, only about ten at the time, when my parents and the entire village became worried about some kind of furry creature that was stealing the livestock and any fish our fishermen managed to catch. The thing was practically eating us out of house and home, and no body even knew what it was.
Oh yeah, my birth island? Caldera Cay, home of the Defenders of the Wing.
Anywho, I was already training to be a Defender, but I always did have more skill with a bow and arrow over their preferred mothod of darts and swords. I was always pretty good at combat, all due to my competitive streak and my curiosity.. Okay, yeah, and training.
This curiosity is what causes my entire universe to turn on its head, and to be cast out from my people.
After my favorite chicken was taken by this rouge furry beast, some even calling it a huge wolf, I decided that enough was enough. I took another chicken from the island's supply, and I put it down on the ground in a small fenced area that I built before climbing a tree to settle in and wait.
Little did I know, this was a particuarly smart beast, and it smelled me before I could even hope to know that it was around. Still, it snuck up due to hunger and attempted to censored the chicken. It was pretty big, and I could tell it was a dragon almost immediately. That made things tricky, because I could not harm nor kill it - dragons are to be worshiped like our Great Protector. Still, I couldn't just let it keep killing our livestock. Our townspeople would be glad to know of the dragon and to feed it. So, I jumped down and got in between the beast and the chicken - right as it launched at the chicken. I landed squarely on it's shoulders, and immediately he began jerking back and forth, trying to buck me off.
Let me tell you, I was terrified! I ended up falling off despite my best effort of holding on, and I landed on my back, looking up at the pale gray eyes of the fluffed up and spikey reptile. I've never seen a dragon so magnificent and strange all at once, his scales were fluffed up to twice its size, it's spikes were pointing towards me and quite menacing, and his mouth was filling with the horrifying red glow of fire. I accepted my fate as a sacrifice to this gorgeous beast, and I closed my eyes.
But.. I didn't die. I opened a single and saw that he had closed his mouth, his scales were less fluffy, albiet still very furry-looking, and his head was tipped to the side much like a large cat. He nudged me and glanced at the chicken and then at me, as if he understood why I got between him and the chicken. Of course, he thought I was as hungry as he was and that's why I was so small, but that was not the case.
I hesitantly reached out to touch the magnificent creature anyway, but instead of pushing into my hand or even just holding still, the big goof-ball just collapsed and plopped his head right on my lap! Ugh, the nerve of some dragons.
At the time I was very confused, and hesitantly stroked his large head until he started purring, I have to admit I did like the sound. Afterwards, he even started kneading on me like I was his mother, goofball. He still does it to this day, y'know.
Oh, right, right. Back to the story.
We stayed there for quite a bit of time until he seemed to get too hungry to stay any longer, and then he just got up, stretched, and wondered away. I was shocked. Still, I had to see him again.
The next day, I came back with a fish and waited like I did the previous day. Lo and behold, he came. I gave him the fish and I enjoyed his company before he left once more. This went on for about three years before we were discovered. Since I was bringing him fish, he stopped terrorizing our livestock, and so the Defenders thought that the beast had left somehow - but he was really just a pacificed dragon with no need to hunt in such a mannor anymore. We had a blast during this time, and we would run across the entire island. He even let me ride him a few times, I simply couldn't resist the thrill despite the rules of my island.
Unfortunately, that could not go on forever. Once my older brother had gotten curious enough and followed me, leading him to discover my little secret, he immediately told our father, who then told our ruler, Queen Mala.
Because I was so young, only thirteen, she decided to ship me off of the island as punishment instead of letting the dragons decide my fate - as it was most certainly death.
However, I went with dignity onto the boat. I did not cry, I did not scream, and I did not even call for my family as they watched me sail away. Despite this, my dragon friend must have grown either lonely or suspicious when I did not show up for our meeting, and he came searching for me. He found me, and he watched me in confusion as I sailed away from the island - away from him. He, well, he did not like it. Fire and ice, all at once due to his mixed heritage, broke out in the sky along with his angry song that he billowed out into the breeze.
My dragon, my dragon. He does not like to be abandoned, not after he was seperated from his parents at such a young age. He took to the sky like a ghost, and he sailed across it despite his unstable wings before he landed in my boat with me and tackled me to the ground. I thought he was going to kill me for leaving him, but he only looked at me and pushed at my face as if to say 'Why would you do that? Don't leave me'.
That was the most vulnerable I have ever seen him, and together we sailed away from the island that we both knew as home.
