Facebook Gameroom disagrees

After finding that my browser won't run SoD anymore, I downloaded facebook Gameroom. When I installed it, I was greeted by the message that SoD is not available.

I followed my Browser's advice to download the stand-alone version (despite having done so in the past to unpleaant experiences) and find the stand-alone crashes, times out, is laggy, and the graphics are pretty pixellated (this is running on a Win10 machine with 32GB memory, a 4GB graphics card, and 8-thread processor). Not exactly all the features touted when asked to download the update.

The browser version, despite an occasional plug-in issue, ran pretty well. The stand-along never did and still doesn't, and the FB Gameroom won't run it at all.

What needs to be done to fix the browser version? I'm not spending $85 plus a year for a game I can't play anymore.

Further Details...

Hello! Thank you for reporting this issue. Do you know which version of Windows 10 you have? Have you also tried using a different device? Which browser were you using? Do let us know. Thank you.

I am reporting the items on

I am reporting the items on FB as well. her are the details:

I am using Win 10 Pro with 32GB memory, GTX 910 video card with 4GB memory, and have used Waterfox, Palemoon, and Seamonkey browsers, all of which use Unity. They all worked fine until 2 days ago, when you released the new update.
I installed Facebook Game
room and it tells me SoD is not approved for my location (I'm stationed overseas).
I am really trying to make the stand-alone work, but it takes an average of 20 minutes for it to load, and that's after several attempts (it times out the first two or three attempts and I'll have to close the program and retry). It is very laggy. When an event occurs, or I change locations, it takes 2 - 3 minutes for variable items to show up (not very good when you want to battle ships and the ship is defeated before it even loads for the event). It takes about 5 minutes to change location. When you try to feed a dragon, It takes three or four attempts on clicking on a fish or egg before it registers and about 30 seconds when it does. it registers several clicks at a time.
The stand-alone also pushes my 8-thread AMD processor to 100% which taxes it to temperatures of 65 degrees C (I have a liquid-cooled CPU sink and it normally runs between 28 and 40 degrees when in use normally). So when I do play, it's for a limited time before I have to terminate it due to the warnings I get.
You might blame the lag on the ISP and internet connection, but I never had any of these kind of issues when using any of the browsers.
The biggest issue I had is that most of the newly created dragons have missing avatar images in the stables, and the update didn't fix that.
BTW, I tried to load this on my new quad-core ASUS laptop with Win 10 home (64), 16GB memory and built in video card, and the game won't load. It video just freezes during load. (the game, not the laptop) I can kill the game and everything else runs fine.
I don't bother playing on either my iPhone or iPad. The iPhone is too small to enjoy playing, (Rise of Berk is about the limits I want to go on that) and the iPad is too laggy and crashes often. I don't care for the Apple controls (or lack of controls) for either.

Being a computer tech by trade, you can understand how this can become a bit frustrating.

Additional Information

Oh, and another thing I noted was my Video Card (GTX 970 with 4GB memory), normally operates at about 10-20% capacity (dual monitor, 1920x1080) and a temperature between 35 - 40 Degrees C. When running the stand-along, the usage ramps up to about 55-65% and the temperature skyrockets to 60 degrees.

This is compared to 50% usage and 50 degrees when using the browser version.

Take an App for a Lap

I am testing the SoD App from the Windows Store. It seems to work better than the stand-alone file. There are still some quirks, but I may stick to that for the time being as it uses a lot less resources than the stand-alone.

To patjade: Have you considered Steam?

I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but have you considered playing SoD on Steam? The latform runs games beautifully in my experience and I use a Windows 7. I used to use Windows 10 but I found the game wasn't very stable. Steam also doesn't require you to download Unity. I can't go completely in-depth of what software I have, not a huge computer person, but I hope this info helps you at least a little.

Steamed

Well, I downloaded Steam and downloaded the DoD entry. For some reason it just opened my SoD stand-alone, so nothing different there. You can tell when the executable is DOMain.exe

Stand-Alone vs. Microsoft App

Since Facebook Gameroom won't allow me to play (the game is not available as it's not approved for my area), I am left with two alternatives; The downloaded stnd-alone version, and the SoS App from the MS store. I've tried both and have come up wioth some observations.

First, both use Unity, so this is about gameplay using each. Both still have the same quirks with opening chests (Infinity Gears of Doom, IGoD)

Stand-Alone:

Pros - Gameplay is pretty much the same as the browser version. For two-monitor systems, you can do things in the other screen and the game continues, same with alt-tabbed windows.

Cons - Processor and video hog, which can cause lag and heat issues. Only options are full-screen and minimized, full-screen covers taskbar on the bottom so difficult to shift between windows unless you minimize or use alt-tab. Laggy at times, especially if there are a lot of people in MMO mode.

MS App:

Pros - Loads a bit quicker, much less load on the video amd processor. A bit less laggy then the SO version. Allows access to the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

Cons - More prone to crashing, especially during the load sequence (gears for a bit, then just closes). If it's not the active screen, activity freezes/pauses until you click on the game and make it active again, although events in the game don't pause (if you are waiting for a ship event countdown and click on an email message, the screen will stop, but when you return, the countdown clock will adjust for the elapsed time and the ship position will change accordingly).

In my opinion, neither are as good as the browser version was, but we have what we have. I have used both versions equally, tending more towards the MS App. If the app has problems loading, I will go to the stand-alone for a bit.

I also have the iPhone/iPad version of SoD, but I have found issues with that version make it pertty much unplayable (small screen, lack of controls, frequent hangs and crashes).
