Expansion Packs - Replayability

I am sure I am not the only one who is excited about new expansion packs. You get a couple of new quests, new dragons a horde of new maps. You play them, you complete them and.... well... What then?

 

The problem is that we buy these expansion packs, we complete the quests and then nothing. Sure, some people might visit to fish, to look at the maps but after the quests are done... the expansion maps become obsolete, useless. There is noting going on in them. basically, you can forget that they even exist after you are done.

 

So why not give them some kind of use, to make sure it is worth it to buy them? To have some kind of replay value to them? Put some daily quests on them that give us random tasks we can only complete on those expansion pack maps. Give us more bosses on them, give us a reason to adventure on them.

 

Something. Anything. Because as time goes by, I myself find less and less motivation to buy these packs. Because after the hype dies down, after the quests are done, they just... exist. They quit giving anything new or worthwhile.

Daily challenges

I always thought that daily challenges would be a good idea so people would get some replay value, but making them location specific would be a great idea to get back to these islands, as long as that won't hinder the people who didn't buy those expansions.

Of course, those who did not buy these expansion packs would not see these quests since I think these quests should be started on their expansion pack maps.

Very much agreed. The maps are only relevant for a few quests, and after that there's no reason to re-visit. 

The devs took some time to create these maps. Would it not be awesome if there was something that made players return?

 

Lots of MMO's keep their 'older' areas relevant by adding stuff like daily quests, indeed. There's also other cool things that could be considered. Reputation (to acquire dragons & gear, maybe?), collectibles, achievements... Maybe just a settlement for roleplay value? 

Perhaps an event like the battle event will have people check out the older areas more often. 

The areas have a lot of potential, and some are only used for 3-4 quests. It's a shame!

I agree.

I love the expansion packs, but I also think it's a shame that they just sort of sit there once you've done all the quests. I'm not sure SoD currently has the resources for a brand new quest every day, but I'd like to see a few relatively simple, replayable quests - maybe one for each area - added. Each one could give out a decent amount of dragon XP (50ish) and could involve things you can already do there (collect amber on Melody Island, find some sort of treasure in the Ship's Graveyard - the random chest generator could be used to make something new appear in a new place every time, save it getting too repetitive... you get the idea).

 

I guess they could have one bigger quest that took in the whole expansion, but I'm thinking that smaller replayable quests that didn't take too long to complete would be more use to people trying to level up their dragons a bit more quickly.

 

It would certainly add some much-needed variety to the currently rather small range of activities that give out dragon XP once one is out of quests.
