Welcome, Earthguardians

This is the place for our clan members to just relax and visit with one another. You can get to know each other,  share fun screen-caps from your in-game adventures, and talk about HTTYD, SOD, the original HTTYD book series, the weather, your favorite shows or food, or anything good and clean.

Hello everyone!

Thank you Mariella for getting some new posts going and look forward to clan activities!

So ... General discussion ... How 'bout that weather?

Mariella I think you were asking about winter on the clan board - I like winter!!

I personally find it disgruntling and sometimes a little scary how winter has changed in my area from when I was much younger. For example, winter weather typically started end of November and definitely December, but in recent years it's more like January. And the temp on Christmas was like 70s!! I swear I heard a lone spring peeper (a spring nighttime frog) and early spring flowers were starting to come up like daffodils. Of course just a few weeks later we have a snow storm rolling in. Yay, snow!!

The weather has been rather

The weather has been rather strange these past few years. The seasons don't start and end the same as they used to. Spring and Fall are now shorter, and Winter and Summer are more harsh or intense.

Back when I was younger, maybe ten years ago, we would get snow soon after Halloween, and sometimes as early as the County Fairs in September. We would get tons of snow and I had a blast playing in it. But this winter... We didn't get snow until a few days after Christmas, and Christmas was at least 60 degrees. But now that it's cold, it is really cold. It's always in the 20s and below so we're not getting much snow.

Then last year, we kept getting heat waves in winter/spring. It caused all the plants to sprout and bloom, but then it got cold enough to frost and freeze again. That killed so many plants that years. Our gardens didn't do very well that year.

I'm worried about climate change, both natural man-made. It seems like the climate is changing fast. What will things be like ten years from now?

Let's Boost Clan Participation! (Please don't reply directly)

I would like to try to boost clan participation. While we have 100 members, we only have a very few who actively engage with the rest of the clan. I believe that if we had various group activities our fellow clan members would become more active.

Below is a list of activities we could have. Earthguardians, how do you feel about these ideas? Do you think they would work? Why or why not? Would you want to participate in any of these activities? Do you have any ideas of your own?

Clan Hang-Out Day:

We could have special predetermined days and times to meet up. It could be once or twice a week at different times to accommodate multiple time zones. These hang-out could be all chatting or may include other activities like those listed below.

Hide and Seek:

Clan members take turns playing hide an seek. There could be just one seeker and many hiders, or there could be teams, etc.

Flying in Sync:

Clan members work together to fly together in formation, or to hover and create pictures similar to how Night Terrors do in RTTE.

(Thank you for the suggestion, Rubinesse!)

Camouflage Contest:

Members compete to see who's the best at hiding in plain sight. Judging could be done in game, or judged by viewing screen captures in the forum.  The person with the most votes wins.

Costume or Fashion Competition:

Members wear their best outfits and either show them off in game "Fashion Runway" style or by sharing screen captures on the forum. May be judged by theme such as holiday or theme. Judging may be done in game or viewing screen captures in the forum, then submitting a vote based on various criteria. The person with the most votes wins. There may be more than one category to judge and win. For Example, "Best Dressed", "Most Haunting", or "Most Merry".

Hide-Out and Farm Decorating Contests:

Members decorate their hide-out or farm the best they can, and gets judged based on various categories and criteria. Farms can be viewed in game or by sharing screen captures on the forum. The person with the most vote wins.n various criteria. The person with the most votes wins. There may be more than one category to judge and win. For Example, "Most Relaxing", "Most Farm Animals", "Most Haunting" or "Most Merry".

(Thanks for the suggestion, Lady Brasa!)

Fan Art and Fan Fiction Contests:

Forum members enter and compete in art and/or writing contests based on a theme, holiday, or occasion. The work with the most votes wins. There may be more than one category to judge by and win in. (For example, "Scariest", "Cutest", 'Most Skill", or "Most Original".

Thunder Run Racing:

Time Challenge Championship-

Clan members are assigned numbers and paired up randomly. Each pair will have one person race in a specified Thunder Run level, then Challenge the other Viking. The Viking who wins the Challenge moves onto the next round. Winners are randomly paired up until there is one Champion.

Thunder Run Tournament-

Clan members are assigned numbers and paired up randomly. Each pair will have to meet up in Thunder Run racing and race one level. The Viking with the best place (1st is best, then 2nd, etc...) wins and goes on to the next round. Winners are randomly paired up until there is one Champion.

Clash of Clan Members Tournament:

A play on "Clash of Clans," this tournament is all about earning trophies. Members can earn trophies from TRR, FF, BEL, Challenges, etc. I will take a screen shot before the tournament begins and when it ends and calculate how many trophies were earned. Whoever earns the most trophies in a given time, wins! There may be multiple places or awards, like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Honorable Mention, etc.

(Thank you for the suggestion, Tallyrah!)

Overworld Racing:

After a track is made and rules are agreed upon in advance, clan members race around a predetermined path for 1 to 3 laps or from start to finish. One person acts as a referee to start the race and declare the winner.

Land Racing-

Like overworld racing, but forbids flight. The track is land based but may involve jumping, platforming, or gliding. Races may be species or age-specific. For example, Speedstingers ONLY or Shortwing ONLY races.

Fireball Frenzy Tournament:

Clan members are assigned numbers and paired up randomly. One Viking must play FF in singleplayer then Challenge the other Viking to beat their score. The Viking who wins the Challenge moves onto the next round. Winners are randomly paired up until there is one Champion.

Flight Suit Challenge:

After a starting place and target area is chosen, clan members glide in their flight suits and compete to see who can land closest to the target. There may be one or more rounds to determine the winner.

Farming and Fishing Tournaments:

Clan members must either fish or farm a particular fish or produce/animal as much as they can in a give time frame. The Viking who has the most at the end of the round wins. Screen captures for before and after can be used as proof, or we could rely purely on Viking honesty.

Role Play:

For those who don't know, role play is a game where you act out a role, as yourself or somebody else, to tell a story. I personally would like to roleplay as Earthguard members, but I am open to other ideas as well.

In-Game Message Board Roleplay-

Roleplaying in game would allow all members to participate. However, each post is limited to 160 characters and is heavily censored by the game. It may make it difficult for people to say what they want to.

Forum Roleplay-

Roleplaying in the forum allows much greater freedom when it comes to word count and vocabulary, but excludes anybody who can't or doesn't want to use the forum.

In-Game Overworld Roleplay-

We would use our own Vikings to act out various scenarios, such as fighting a screaming death or warding off Daggur's army, taming "wild" dragons, etc.

Filmmaking and Clan Trailers:

Clan members would work together to make short films by roleplaying in game. We could also make stories or clan advertisement/recruitment "Trailers".

Two Cents Reply, part 1

I posted a couple questions to the in-game clan board asking: Who has an account on the SOD forum here? And time zones. I suspect the latter might technically be a no-no, but it let me post it. Thought those question would be helpful in orchestrating things amongst members?

Anyway, my two cents on you proposed activities!

"I would like to try to boost clan participation. While we have 100 members, we only have a very few who actively engage with the rest of the clan. I believe that if we had various group activities our fellow clan members would become more active. "

How many members actually play the game anymore? I hardly ever see more that 3 people on at a time when I check. Are you able to clean out membership? If someone hasn't been on for a year or so and appears to not even play anymore, can't we clear space? Worst case, if the person decided to play again, they can be welcomed back.

"Clan Hang-Out Day:

We could have special predetermined days and times to meet up. It could be once or twice a week at different times to accommodate multiple time zones. These hang-out could be all chatting or may include other activities like those listed below. "

Not sure how exactly the game works internally, but I get the impression that in order to accomodate hundreds or thousands of players all over the world, we get divvied up amongst multiple servers. Everyone is not on the same server at the same time. Not to mention if we were, there would be no space to even stand, I suspect!

So, with this thought, when we click on an online member to visit, I suspect you are taken to the server that the member you want to visit is on? That way, we could all "visit" Mariella for instance and end up on the same server in the same place? Is that how it works? For me and perhaps other who principally play on mobile, the visiting a clan member doesn't work and hasn't for a long time, maybe never.

BUT, I could be totally wrong.

Also, if we could arrange meetings, I suggest once a week at two opposite times of the day, to accomodate varying time zones. If it turns out members are not so spread out across time zones, then once would be sufficient.

Ultimately, what I'm saying is I'm game for this, at least sometimes, if I can!

"Hide and Seek

Camouflage Contest:

Members compete to see who's the best at hiding in plain sight. Judging could be done in game, or judged by viewing screen captures in the forum.  The person with the most votes wins."

Due to my understanding of how the game works internally as mentioned above, Screen shots on the forum seems to be the easiest for more participation.

"Costume or Fashion Competition:

Members wear their best outfits to see who is best dressed. May be judged by theme such as holiday or theme. Judging may be done in game or viewing screen captures in the forum. The person with the most votes wins. There may be more than one category to judge and win. For Example, "Best Dress", "Most Haunting", or "Most Merry"."

Sounds good. Recommend the screen capture option. Also, categories should be very specific. 'Best Dressed' might have different meanings for different people in the context of this game. Also member's feelings on gem purchases should be obtained, as the "best" clothing and often the seasonal ones are only available for gems.

Also to suggest, we could include a farm or hideout decorating contest, with the same considerations as above. At least farm items are getting easier to get with coin items and freebies from chests. BUT some of us can't decorate some areas because of glitches, for example: I can decorate my farm, but haven't been able to decorate my hideout for sometimes now.

"Fan Art and Fan Fiction Contests:

Forum members enter and compete in art and/or writing contests based on a theme, holiday, or occasion. The work with the most votes wins. There may be more than one category to judge by and win in. (For example, "Scariest", "Cutest", 'Most Skill", or "Most Original". "

Sounds fine to me!

"Thunder Run Racing:

Time Challenge Championship-

Clan members are assigned numbers and paired up randomly. Each pair will have one person race in a specified Thunder Run level, then Challenge the other Viking. The Viking who wins the Challenge moves onto the next round. Winners are randomly paired up until there is one Champion.

Thunder Run Tournament-

Clan members are assigned numbers and paired up randomly. Each pair will have to meet up in Thunder Run racing and race one level. The Viking with the best place (1st is best, then 2nd, etc...) wins and goes on to the next round. Winners are randomly paired up until there is one Champion."

I don't personally race, but these sound like a good activities! Maybe I could participate - obviously not to win, but to get my feet wet, so to speak!

Sorry, I have some errands to attend to, so I will finish up responses later!

Thanks for organizing this!

New activities

Hey guys,

I already posted it on the clan message board but I would be in if we had some clan hang-out meeting (if I have time on this particular day). I'd also like to participate in in-game role play or the hide and seek competition (but I was thinking if playing hide and seek with other players online, without a competition, could be nice, too).

And I love the idea of the flight suit challenge! :-) That sounds fun.

I've been thinking about some "acrobatic" activity. For example, my sand wraith Cindy and I especially love to fly loops in hellspeed around rocks and over/under bridges in Berk and the Training Grounds. It could be fun to fly with others, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a race in my opinion. But I like the idea of land races! And maybe you know about the Night Terror Event SilverWeed arranged via youtube about 2 month ago? She tried to get vikings with their Night Terrors together so they could build formations in the air like the Night Terrors do in the series. It seems pretty complicated to get flying dragons arranged in the air but we could also try that out if you like the idea - with all kinds of dragons, not only night terrors.

So many ideas... :-) It was also this Night Terror Event that I noticed how difficult it can be to get on the same server by inviting or visiting others. Maybe if we helt our hang-out meetings in some area where there usually aren't so many people (like hobblegrunt island f.ex.), maybe we can get on the same server just by going there normally. Of course it would have to be an area that is accessible for all players.

So far so good :-) Ah and sorry if there are grammar or spelling mistakes, I'm not a native english speaker :-)

Sorry, forgot to finish!!

"Clash of Clan Members Tournament:

Another one that sounds cool. I personally might not participate, but other clan mates might have a ball!

"Overworld Racing:

After a track is made and rules are agreed upon in advance, clan members race around a predetermined path for 1 to 3 laps or from start to finish. One person acts as a referee to start the race and declare the winner.

Land Racing-

Like overworld racing, but forbids flight. The track is land based but may involve jumping, platforming, or gliding. Races may be species or age-specific. For example, Speedstingers ONLY or Shortwing ONLY races."

The Land Racing sounds like a neat idea - how would that be referreed? Like the idea of getting non-flying dragons involved. Also - what is platforming?

Fireball Frenzy Tournament:

Clan members are assigned numbers and paired up randomly. One Viking must play FF in singleplayer then Challenge the other Viking to beat their score. The Viking who wins the Challenge moves onto the next round. Winners are randomly paired up until there is one Champion.

Again, I suck at games like this, but hey, sounds like fun for others that do, and maybe even I can be an easy win for someone :D

"Flight Suit Challenge:

After a starting place and target area is chosen, clan members glide in their flight suits and compete to see who can land closest to the target. There may be one or more rounds to determine the winner."

Interesting idea! Better start practicing with my flight suit, I hardly use it. How would this one be refereed? Someone monitors while the others try to land on the target? Or maybe, they ARE the target?? :P

"Farming and Fishing Tournaments:

Clan members must either fish or farm a particular fish or produce/animal as much as they can in a give time frame. The Viking who has the most at the end of the round wins. Screen captures for before and after can be used as proof, or we could rely purely on Viking honesty."

I would prefer screen captures, that way we wouldn't have to even think about questioning anyone's integrity. Also anyone can screen capture, even on phones. Also, as you have already probably thought, it matters which type of fish are selected, since there are spots that produce more of one species than others.

"Role Play:

I've never done Role Play before, but might be game - just please be patient with the noob! In-game playing - I think of the members that actually look at the clan board, we would get frustrated with all the chat and length limitations. Forum might be better, but as you say, not to many of us on here, though I think members that are on the forum but just don't come frequently might get on for a specific event/activity? Also to think about, anyone on the forum can see or post our role-play - not sure if that is even an issue ... other than maybe embarrassing myself ...

I also like the idea of Role-playing as our clan! Also, I'd prefer sticking to canon, at least at first, rather than including OC dragon species or non-HTTYD stuff. That said, I'm up to book variations, too!

Filmmaking and Clan Trailers:

Clan members would work together to make short films by roleplaying in game. We could also make stories or clan advertisement/recruitment "Trailers".

I really admire the few SOD videos out there, especially the funny ones! I actually have done videos of cats at my animal shelter! BUT, alas, there is whatever rule about not being able to video record games on cellphones ... I don't get it. And doing it on a PC presents some difficulties for me. However, I am happy to participate in a clan video!

I hope some of the comments were helpful or provided some more things for consideration ...

I guess the simplest first step would be to see if we could even arrange getting a group of us in-game together. If we can manage that much, then the more involved/complicated ideas could be arranged?

Thank you all for taking time

Thank you all for taking time to share your opinions on each proposed idea, and for making many suggestions for other activities. If the game ever lets me visit other Vikings again, perhaps we can start to hang out more often!

Lady Brasa:

The Vikings I see playing most often are: Twisted Claw, Hufflehobbit, SentinelSoul,Tallyrah, Extremehellman, Royal Skeleton, Sandwraithfury, yourself, and myself. Usually only up to three members are on at once but I've seen as many as ten at the same time.

I clean out a few inactive members, starting at the bottom with those who have the fewest trophies (because more trophies makes our clan look better). I could probably clean out about 80% of the clan if I had to. The hard part is that there is no easy way to tell who has been playing, how much, or when so I feel bad about just deleting people if I don't have to.

You are right-the game works over many servers and sometimes,we don't wind up on the same server. Visiting one specific person may be a way to get around this problem, especially when in a less traveled area like a farm or Hobblegrunt Island (as Rubinesse suggested). But like you and many other members, I am having trouble visiting anyone. I either get "You cannot visit this Viking now" or I get endless turning gears and the game freezes and I have to reboot... Once this glitch is sorted out, hopefully we can have a real hang out! And when we do have hang outs I will be more than happy to have them at different times of day to accommodate different time zones.

As for your question about land racing: One person will stand at or near the finish line. They will be the one to start the race and call the winner. Vikings will take turns being the referee so everybody gets to race.

Platforming: A genre of game that involves climbing and jumping to explore and/or solve problems. Think of Mario, Spyro,  Sonic, Shovel Knight, etc.

Flight Suit Challenge Referee: Most likely the referee will stand a distance from the target where they can get a good view of what's happening. For those not well practiced may be far off the mark! However, the referee could be the target just as easily.

Roleplaying in game or in the game message board would be a great challenge. I would much rather roleplay in the forum but I feel like that we should have at least five people, but could maybe make due with three. I would love to roleplay as our clan and would prefer to keep it all cannon for now, no fan-species or nightfuries everywhere.  I thought it might be a fun idea to allow people from other clans to play, and make it more of a general "School of Dragons Clans" roleplay but it might get too messy/crowded/complicated. I hope that if we started roleplaying, it would draw more members to the forum.

Don't feel embarrassed about being new to roleplaying. Just relax and have fun... that's what it's really about!variations, too!

We will need to start small, but once we have figured out how to get a few people together, we can move on to bigger and better things. =)

Haha, well that explains why

Haha, well that explains why I keep moving around on the clan list from the last slot to a few slots back (i.e. I have no trophies!!)

Too bad your friend requesting isn't working well! I have also tried visiting you a few times the last few days and I get "This Viking is not available". Still, that's a big difference for mobile players before the update, when it was just the turning gears! I've even managed to add two clan mates to my friendlist (in addition to tallyra): Hufflehobbit and Amber the dragonrider (I've seen her on the clan list for a while, just not in the forum).

Thanks for the explanations! Yes, it will be hard getting us together, but keep us posted and let us know if there is anything we can do in preparation!

Hey, 2:15-2:30ish EST I got a visitation request from tallyra. Of course NOW I'm having problems visiting people! I can't even get to the clan board right now - keep getting endless gears! And it looks like several clan mates might be on now, too :(  Sorry.

Hey Lady Brasa, some days ago

Hey Lady Brasa,

some days ago I saw you were online, which was the first time that I noticed that we were online at the same time. I tried to visit you but it didn't work then. But it seems it's not impossible to get people from different time zones together :-) Is EST the time zone you're in? I'm CET, so I meet Tallyra every now and then in the game but people from the US less often.

I think it will be easier if we have other clan members in our friend lists so we can send invites if visiting someone isn't working. So, for all earthguard-members who read this and are not friends with me yet: my friend code is: DPE9GD   :-)

The last 2 or 3 days I could barely open the clan page either, some times even the game crashed when I tried. I hope this will get better so it will be possible to see if others are online.

Hello! I just joined

Hello! I just joined Earthguard and figured I'd introduce myself. So, I'm Herzas and my favourite dragon is the Screaming Death because anything that looks scary or intimidating is endlessly cute to me for some reason, but also because the SD reminds me of Valkor from never ending story and that was one of my favourite movies growing up. One of my goals is getting my hands on one of those cuties in the near future lol.

Moving on, even though I'm new and am maybe crossing boundaries, I'd also like to offer my two cents on the clan participation subject! Please don't take anything I say to be offensive, I really didn't mean it that way. (But you can definitely call me out on it, since, well, how else am I supposed to learn it's not accepted behaviour?)

Clan Hang Out Day seems like a great thing, but next to already mentioned time-zones and otherwise social lifes of the members, there's also the server issue that everyone is always talking about when it comes to meeting up in game. I'm not certain about it, but it seems that a lot of people won't be on the same server and that'd make it tricky. (maybe fixable by all visiting the members already in the right server and location?)

All the activities listed below from Hide and Seek to Camouflage Contest would be super fun! We could also totally try Battle Event formations for Flying in Sync (I think I mentioned that BE was one of my favourite things to do?), and just show it off to everyone at the sight for mad street cred lol. Or maybe actual strategic formations to efficiently gain the most points as a clan, even though a strict BE strategy would probably not go over well.

As for Costume or Fashion Competition and Hide-Out and Farm Decorating Contests I don't know how many will be able to participate? Since these seem like things you need mad gems for, I don't think it's likely that a lot of people will be highly interested in it. I have a Hide-Out (which I'm pretty sure you need a map for first to get?) but I don't do anything with it since it's all too costly and I could be spending those gems on saving up for my dream dragons. As for farms, I don't go any further than get all the animals I need and that's it. But this is all from the perspective of a new player who doesn't have a lot of stuff yet, so maybe I'm singular in this opinion. I'd love the Fashion/Costume Competition regardless of gem spending, though. I'm such a sucker for customisation I have all the sims games from the first to the most recent, including expansions LOL.

Fan Art and Fan Fiction Contests would rock! That's all I have to say on that matter, I love art and literature.

Everything in Thunder Drum Racing, Overworld Racing and Fireball Frenzy also seems great to me, I think I mentioned how much I love friendly competition before! I'd be a bit shy about participating at first, though, since I don't have my preferred racing dragon yet.

Flight Suit Challenge seems a bit undoable for me though? If I remember correctly, it's a members only piece of apparel? It'd be great for people who have a flight suit but it's a little exclusive.

Farming and Fishing Tournaments would be cool, too. They'd have to be in different leagues, though. It'd be a little unfair to match a level 8 farmer against a level 25, for example. So maybe create leagues in the levels between when you get more farm ground? Also, it'd be cool if different growths earn different points, otherwise everyone is just going to show up with tons os dragon nip and sheep wool, probably.

As for Roleplay, I also don't think the in-game RP would be a huge success, because of the harsh censorship. But the great news is that if overworld RP isn't working out, we could always try forum hosted visual RP. Basically, instead of typing out your every last sentence, you just draw it! It's like making a comic book where every new page is in a different style. Overall, I think RP should be left on the forums, for convenience. Also, depending on if it's an RP that is OC or more in the HTTYD verse, it'd maybe be helpful to add links so certain must know information, like all the worlds, NCPs, dragon types. Just a quick link to a wiki-list of something, so people not familiar can catch up easily without having to break character to ask!

Film Making and Clan Trailers would be cool too, I don't really have a strong opinion on it, so I'm going to leave it at that.

And now, the (for me) icing on the cake! CLAN WARS. You seriously have NO IDEA how excited I am about clan wars. I've never participated in them but they sound like so much fun I could weep. I'm just very excited about them in general. I support any and every attempt and making them even more tempting.

Okay so, I think that was it? I hope this helps in any way, even though it's most just me giving personal opinions on stuff. Anyway, Thanks for letting me join and I guess I'll see you guys around!

(After reading over, instead of just scanning it, ladybrasa's two cents I realize I made some of the same points as them.. I'm not going to edit them out but, y'know, let's see it as backing up a fellow clanmember?)

Haha thanks! Hopefully we can

Haha thanks! Hopefully we can get something organized after awhile. It's hard with the different time zones and work/school and such. Activities on the forum like an RP are looking good to me right now, since there are a number of us that have accounts here, and we don't all have to be on at the same time. Still, it'd be nice to at least try to get together in game. Maybe a weekend or something?

Ugh, yes. Time zones are so

Ugh, yes. Time zones are so tricky, since the meet-up times could be completely different days for people, so I agree with you that weekends would be best. Probably on a saturday, so that even if someone is on a completely different day at the time, it'd still be somewhere around the weekend. As for me, I know I can't be online from friday afternoon until saturday evening, so I hope that when we manage to arrange it, I'll be able to participate.. I'm not sure how many of the members know of activity going on in the forums, so maybe when RP'ing comes in we can promote it in clan messaging and that way more people would apply for forum membership hopefully. Speaking on forum activities, is it possible to host a poll on here? Because that way all the forum-active members could just vote for an optimal time. All we'd have to do is, for example, post days and times from one timezone and then a handy-dandy link to time-converters to see what time it would be in their timezone and pick one of two best voted days and times?

Thank you all again for your

Thank you all again for your input. Herze, you've brought up some good points!

Fishing level and farm level do make a huge difference in the amount of "produce" or fish you get. Tiers would make it much fairer.

I don't know what to do about decorating contests. I realize that many items require gems and it makes it tough for people who can't play a lot and/or don't have the money for gems. Maybe there could be tiers for this as well. However, it has become much easier to earn gems since stable missions and battles were introduced...

(Also Flight Suits may be purchased for gems. Members can just use it for free with active membership, just like with expansions.)

I really want to host an event, but until I can reliably visit other Vikings I don't know if it will be possible. It seems that 9/10 times I try to visit anybody it fails. Usually it either tells me I can't visit, or when it tried to visit, my game freezes and I have to force-close the application. I've tried clearing browser and Unity cache and even uninstalling and reinstalling the game and it hasn't made a difference. If there's somebody who has no trouble at all visiting other clan members who would like to host an event, I would be fine with it. In the mean time, I keep trying every day. Sometimes I can visit somebody now and then. Once the game is fixed I will host something immediately! =)

In the meantime, I think I will bring up the forum roleplay idea again in the clan board. I am hoping for at least five people to make it interesting. =)

I didn't know that about the

I didn't know that about the flight suit (I can't find it in the store since it seems to permanently drop, like, half of the clothing options for me), but this neat discovery makes it just another thing to add to my personal wish list.

You could probably introduce the decorating contest anyway and if enough people show interest then you're good to go!

I'd offer to host an event but I'm not sure if visiting works for me well enough either? Usually these glitches seem to spread like a disease and sooner or later everyone has them, knowing my luck with glitches I figured my game is probably already infected lol. I'm also not sure how hosting and event works, like what would I have to do in that situation?

Also, I left a comment on the clan board as well about it, but again, I'd be up for the RP'ing, I'll just have to make an earthguard fitting character sheet. :)

clan get-together

I also have problems visiting others frequently but it rather seems to me that it is because the others are flying around at this moment or doing some activity not knowing that I'm trying to visit. If we had a clan get-togther with a fixed date and place to meet, I think it might be easier to visit each other because most of us would be waiting on the ground. I was going to say that in my opinion we should give it a try even if visiting is still glitchy - but today I can't open the clan page again without the whole game crashing so that would make it again more difficult if more of us are having this issue :-( I'm not so active at the moment but when I have more time for playing I could try to host a "try-out if we can get some people together-meeting" :-) But even if I don't play that much right now, I'll be checking the forum and the clan page (if I can) regularly for news.

I didn't even take into

I didn't even take into account that visiting might go wrong because of what the other is doing, so you could be entirely right about it working properly when they're just standing around waiting in one place! Thinking about it, doesn't visiting someone's farm put you in the same server as that player is in? Farm visiting, for me, has never glitched, so we could try to see if that works. All just meet up in someone's farm and when the clan is all together, see if leaving it brings us all into the same server at the Look Out?

Also, I hope your clan page glitch dissapears soon, I've had that one as well and it was the worst since I opened it a minute before battle event and it was over when I finally managed to log back in again lol.

Yes, as far as I know

Yes, as far as I know visiting someone is impossible if they are flying around, are in Thunder run racing, Fireball frenzy, playing with their dragons, playing the alchemy game or eel roasting or are in their stables at the moment :-/ Which makes it quite complicated. Sometimes, when I tried to visit someone, who didn't know I was trying to visit, I managed to get to the area he or she was in the moment I clicked "visit" but while it took me some time to get there because of the loading, the other one moved on or got into the air so I couldn't find them anymore.

I agree, that meeting up in somebody`s farm could be a good idea! I had a glitch once when I tried to visit - I think it was Tallyra - and came out in her farm but she was nowhere to be found. I clicked visit and landed in her farm again so I guess she was there and she was just invisible for me. But besides, I still think meeting in somebody's farm could be more successful than meeting in some more public area. I'm not so sure if after that, moving to the lookout would be working fine without people getting lost in other servers but maybe I'm just too pessimistic by now :-D

If you are friends, I'm

If you are friends, I'm pretty sure you can visit the person's farm whether they are there or not, or even online. I'll have to get on and confirm though ...

EDIT: Yes! You can visit friends' farms while they are wherever in the game or not even online! Know what else I just figured out? You can visit friends' Hideouts, too! I had no idea ... Maybe we could could set up a clan club or something ...

Someone could set up a Viking called "earthgaurd" or something similar, join the clan, become friends with members and just create gathering spaces. Then it wouldn't matter if that person was online or not. Also, I'm guessing, but not sure, that person might be able to visit their own Viking with their main account? just thinking ...

yes!

That's a brilliant idea!

First, that's true that meeting on someone's farm (or hideout but the farm offers more space) could work quite well because even if visiting/inviting are glitching, we can still go to the farm if we are friends with the hosting viking.

And second, I like the idea with an extra earthguard character. It would be like having our own clan-livingroom and meeting place or something. I'm quite excited about the idea right now :-) The only maybe difficult thing that came to my mind is that someone (the one that creates and administers the earthguard viking) will have to pay at least 700 gems fpr it (500 new viking slot and 200 for the hide out), in addition some gems for decorations... I think we should test it out first if it works out if more people are visiting the same farm. If this is glitching too and it's pretty bad, e.g. if we aren't able to see the others at all, it would be bad if someone already had spent 700 gems.

But let's see what the others are saying about the idea :-)

Visiting Farms or Hideouts instead of Vikings

These are fabulous ideas you both have! It never even crossed my mind that we could visit either of these places to meet. It would help us get around the whole visiting Viking glitches.

I would be happy to have people over at my farm or hideout. My hideout is almost empty, and my farm is rather full, but we can always try it sometime anyway. I'll have to get back to about a date, because my life has been a bit hectic and unpredictable lately. But soon, I hope. =)

@Rubinesse I'm pretty sure at

@Rubinesse I'm pretty sure at this point being pessimistic is just realism with how much the game glitches sometimes lmao. Anyway, the 'invisible characters' glitch is so real, I have those all the time as well, but it's fixed by both re-entering the space again in my game, so it shouldn't be too big of an issue I hope.

@ladybrasa that's actually a really good idea to have a seperate viking for meeting purposes, so there's no confusion about who's hosting. Clan event? Just go to Earthguard'd hide out or farm. But as Rubinesse said, it'd be pretty hard to get someone to shell out the costs, unless we took the easy route and just created a whole new account for that purpose and shoot a ton of invite mails out to fake email adresses, but I'm pretty sure that's either against the clan ethics and/or the game rules lol. I think it's better to just use the farms if a special character gets created for hosting purposes. (and also hide out decorating is quite expensive and, I mean, we do have to make it a little pretty at least, right? We can't be known for horrible interior decorating lmao.)

@Mariella We will make ourselves comfortable among your chickens then lol. I hope your life gets less hectic soon and you can relax a bit more! Take the time you need ^_^ At least we now have a relatively easy fix for the visiting-glitch. We're slowely getting there!

Not sure, but isn't the

Not sure, but isn't the hideout shared amongst all vikings on an account? Like expansions are. So chances are the "host" already got the hideout for their main Viking. Personally, I have a ton of coins and nothing really to spend on. Definitely wouldn't expect the host to shell out gems!

Or we can party with Mariella and her livestock. She's got some awesome glitches going on which appear to have let her overlap some farm items like the turtle ponds. Its pretty neat!  :)

So possibly of interest:

So possibly of interest: somehow got into googling the word components of our clan name "Earthguard". Well sort of. I posit that Earthguard - I guess "Viking-ized" would be something like "Jorth-gaard".

So the word Earth derives from old germanic "eorthe", "erda", friesian "erthe". saxon "ertha", Dutch "aarde", and norse (with the j pronounced as a y sort of sound) "jord" or "jorth". The Norse word is from the name of a "giantess" or "jotunn" who is like a goddess or sorts, often associated with nature, and also the mother of Thor, by Odin. Wikipedia says about the jotunn Jord "The giantess Jörð, the mother of Thor, is the mother of animal and plant life and has fertility powers." So this is a fitting diety figure for our clan, I would think? (remembering HTTYD on all platforms is based in Norse mythology).

I didn't look up the translation of "guard", but it is extremely similar to the norse word "gaard", often seen as part of Scandanavian surnames. "Gaard" means roughly farm, country, land, or garden.

So we could roughly kind of say, we are "Jorth's Garden" or "Jord's Land" Clan. JorthGaard. (remember, pronounced yorthgaard)

I dunno, I thought that was neat and fitting. Probably should have used that time working on my RP character!  XD

That's a very interesting discovery, Lady Brasa. =)  Jord sounds like perfect diety figure for our clan. Maybe I can find a way to fit that into our roleplay, somehow...

I'm not to shabby at art (i think) and I love a variaty of things ranging from games, books and music. A few other stuff like swimming and volleyball i enjoy doing as well. My favourite colour is purple and pretty much any shade of blue X3 I regually play SOD and I love the many things the game has to offer. It's changed so much other the years! I remember when it was just the school grounds and the wilderness!

anyway so thats a little bit of drabble about me and i'm super happy to be apart of this clan X3

It's so awesome to have another artist join the mix. =) I'm sure you'll fit right in.

Ah, I remember the old days too. Many things have changed for good, and some for worse, but it's been such a fun experience from being there (almost) from the beginning...

The Clan RP has started, but if you're interested you can make a profile and jump right in. =)

You are also welcome to freely use the clan board in-game to talk about anything. The game, books, movies, life, nature.

Oh, and I've sent you a friend request and I will happily visit you in game whenever my game lets me (it's kind of glitchy so it may take a while. I play a bit every day though.)

Let me know if you have any questions. Always happy to help. =)

Better late than never?

Well, I feel like a faliure. I only just found this thread. It's linked in the RP and everything. I just assumed it was the general clan thread. Hi everybody!

Does everybody know how to visit people from the "My Clan" page? I tend to scan through it every so often and pounce on people who are online from there. So if I'm not on your friend list and a weird ginger girl keeps appearing and running after you, it's probably me XD

Also if I see there are a few of us on (those I have on my friend list, at least) I try to send invites to everyone in the hope that it will get us all together. It's worked maybe twice XD

As for ideas, I'm British, so mine's a ha'pennyworth rather than two cents :D

 - With the character limits on the clan messageboard it's... not impossible to use it for roleplay, but it would be a challenge. ( I have done in-game RP-ing with the chat and it's worked OK, you just have to learn what you can and can't get away with.) I also kind of love the idea of a drawn RP, but I'm not a very good artist. I guess it would be good practice XD

 - I can see the problem with costume and decorating contests and gem items - perhaps we could have a "coin items only" rule? I think there's enough variety available in coin items that we wouldn't all look the same, but the limits would encourage people to think outside the box a little.

 - I wouldn't mind creating the "clan Viking", if we decide that's the best option for an all-purpose meeting place. I'd volunteer my farm, I made a space for entertaining and everything, but actually I find the idea of people wandering round my farm when I'm not there a bit unsettling. I don't know why, that's not very logical, but if it was an account I wasn't attatched to I am sure it would be fine. I like the idea of calling him/her/them "Jorth Gaard".

Oh, and prod me through PM if you're in the clan and want my friend code. :D

Heh.

It's taken out of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series - the character's full name is Adora Belle Dearheart, and her love interest calls her "Spike". It just seemed perfect on every single level.

Saying that, my shy, sweet Adora Belle's personality suits the name more closely than I intended. Eh.

I haven't had a baby, it seems, for a while now :(  How long has it been since the last dragon release, anyway?

I think I just play Alchemy Adventure several times each day. Do regular quests and stable quests when available. Play a little eel roast. Play with them and then only feed only chicken eggs.

For Alchemy Adventure - and I could be totally off since its hard to gauge - but it seemed like the number of games you need to play to up a level is plus or minus the level number. So for example, if you just got level 6, it would take 6-8 games to reach level 7. I could be way off, and this isn't counting other sources of points.

Does anyone know how many points it takes for each dragon level??

Tally: Yes, I use the visit

Tally: Yes, I use the visit feature from the clan member page all the time. It doesn't always work all the time, but I try it now and then. I usually have to visit clan members first before I can add them to my friend list if they didn't apply online. It's a pretty nifty feature to see what clan members are on at the time.

While I think RP on the clan message board could work, I feel that the forum RP is already a full-time commitment for me and it would have to be either-or, but not both. It's tough enough to juggle clan leadership and a real-life job! Of course, if anybody wanted to RP on the clan board they could.

I think it would be good to have both coin restricted decorating contests and coin/gem contests would be a good idea. That way everybody who wanted to participate in a contest could, but then anybody who invested in gem purchases could still put it to good use.

"Jorth Gaard would work nicely as the clan Viking. =)  I only have one device I can play School of Dragons on, so I couldn't be the one to do it. My phone and tablet just can't handle the game. I guess I should have invested in better technology..

Rose: I am always working, so I send my young dragons off on stable missions when I can't be playing the game. When I can play, I usually make sure I go to every battle. If still a hatchling or teen, I fight the battle with an adult dragon then switch right before victory to the young dragon so they get the XP instead.  I also play flight club and fireball frenzy with teen dragons. Sometimes I can get a dragon to adulthood and a matter of a day or two. =)

I'm just glad we have an

I'm just glad we have an active clan chief! Thank you! A clan probably would just hidefrom attrition if the chief (or maybe elders?) weren't pushing things along!

As far as a clan Viking, my original thought was the viking just be another viking on someone's account, not a brand new account. That way, the clan viking would have access to the expansions (and therefore hideout!) that the account holder already had (presuming they bought those!). Of course the decor would be at the mercy of the account holder  ;)  So if clan members and the account holder are friends through the clan viking, the clan viking account does not need to be logged on for others to gather. In fact the account holder could be active and visit the clan viking's hideout (or farm) along with other clan-mates without having to be logged in as the clan viking.

Of course, Mariella as leader is the obvious choice (if this is something we wish to persue) but I don't think it has to be! Maybe someone who is fairly active and has been with the guild forever? And elder? (What exactly do clan elders mean anyway?)

Also, Tally, totally didn't see that "Jorth Gaard" could be a Viking name, too!

Oh yes, if the account is

Oh yes, if the account is just for the farm or hide-out that's correct! You can visit farms and hideouts when people are offline.

Blah, you can tell I'm tred haha. I have enough gems to spare that I couldn't easily make some awesome clan gathering area. =)

Not sure though. Is anybody else having... decorating glitches? Like your inventory has no scroll bar, so you can only get the items at the top. And a glitch were your viking is frozen, and you have to hit "settings" and then x-out to move? Hope the developers/coders will fix these issues soon. Otherwise, I'll have an awful time making a hang-out spot.

Yes, I have these decorating problems, too. Decorating the hideout went better than the farm, besides that it took me about 2 months until the game let me place the purchased bed somewhere. But the other hideout items worked just fine.

YEs, this.

I think I misused the phrase "account" - I didn't mean whoever did it would have to start a whole new account. The clan Viking could essentially be a "dead Viking" on the owner's account: you'd just log in to accept friend requests, basically.

One thing worth noting: whoever had the clan Viking woud get extra gems for logging in daily, so it might be worth being the host in the long run!
