Kalden Sternok | Virgo

The girl seemed unimpressed with Kalden's initial suggestion, so he decided not to press on it further for now. The only thing worse than someone acting loopy while drugged was someone irritated while under the influence. He had seen enough of the variations where he came from, though those were self-induced situations and this seemed to be inflicted by someone else upon the girl.

The young woman did, however, volunteer her name without issue.

"My name is Maikela! Maikela Nix!" Maikela said with a smile, her hand stuck outwards to him in introduction. Kalden hesitantly took it in his own, but gently shook it nonetheless. During the few moments their hands met, the last name Maikela had said circulated in his mind. Clearly of Water element background, but that's not what stuck out to him. Her last name seemed extremely familiar. Suddenly a logo flashed across his mind. Kalden was never one to read popular magazines or keep up with celebrity news, but he still saw or read newspapers often enough to see the 'Nix News' inscription on the fronts. However, he had no idea what it meant to this girl, nor what to further connect this information with right then. He just wondered if she should be throwing around such a loaded name within earshot to others in her current state.

"Pleasure to meet you, Maikela." Kalden said, deciding to only refer to her by her first name as he released her hand from his grip. He decided to try to continue the conversation normally until he could figure out what next to do. "I'm Kalden Sternok. I arrived today." The Virgo wondered how much personal information he should offer. Even if she was not in her usual state of mind, he still didn't know who Maikela was, and her words earlier had been rather cryptic.

"I'm Kalden Sternok. I arrived today."  The boy introduced, accepting her offer of a handshake.

A cheshire grin spread along Maikela's features as she rapdially shook his hand, probably a bit more agressive and longer than what would be considered socially acceptable. "Kalden." She parroted with a slight giggle. "That's fun to say. Kalll-deeen." Only now did she think to let go of his hand, and that was because a stabbing pain radiated along the base of her skull.

"Owie." Her hands flitted against her forehead, massaging her temples.

The world around her seemed to lurch foward, smelling delectably full of colours. Maikela gasped slightly as she stumbled. "Can you smell the colours?" She asked in a loft tone.

She staggered against the wall, nearly tripping over her shoes. "I think I just peaked!" She rolled her forehead against ehw all slightly, wincing again.

She decided that she did not like the smell of green. What a horrible smell. Pink smelled like cotton candy, blue smelled like... kumquats for some reason.

She didn't likle green anyways. She just wished that she would stop tasting it.

"Thinking is like... swimming... through treacle." Maikela rasped. "Thoughts are... fuzzed. Yes. No... wait. Ugh. Virgo. Down. Below." She blinked a few times as if desperately trying to piece together whatever she was trying to say.

Kalden was not used to touching people much, so Maikela's overzealous handshake had been a bit much for him. However, his thoughts quickly shifted after they released each other's hands.

"Owie." Maikela's hands immediately lifted to her head, as if she had a headache. Kalden tilted his own in confusion.

"What's wro-?" Kalden began to ask, but suddenly Maikela's symptoms got much worse, as she lurched around.

"Can you smell the colours? I think I just peaked!" She said, starting on a babbling mess of speech. Kalden glanced around, but the hall to either side had mostly emptied during their interactions.

"Thinking is like... swimming... through treacle. Thoughts are... fuzzed. Yes. No... wait. Ugh. Virgo. Down. Below."

Nothing the girl was saying made sense. Was this a drug side effect, or something else? However, Kalden's ears picked up the word 'Virgo' specifically. What did that have to do with any of the color related things she was talking about? He hadn't introduced himself as one, perhaps she picked up on it despite herself.

Kalden shook himself out of it, trying to touch her shoulder gently, perhaps to help her into a lower position if she needed it. With his other hand he yanked at a water flask that hung on his satchel, popping the lid off with his teeth.

"Maybe 'is a side effect," Kalden's accent slipped slightly as his concentration shifted, offering the drink to her in case she needed it, but also not forcing it. "You're maybe overexerting yourself. If you can, try 'nd wash it down, breath, then speak."

Maikela closed her eyes, pressing her thumbs against her temples. Kalden's voiced sounded far away, muffled by cascading invisible waves.

She turned her head away from the flask as it was pressed against her lips, her breathing coming in rapid bursts. The drug must have been wearing off, leaving her with a debilitating feeling of fuzziness. Her skin prickled as she dug her nails into the meat of her palms. Her brow furrowed as she tried to thinkl straight.

"No, no you don't... I can't... posperity." Maikela mumbled, shaking out her head. Wincing, some very unlady-like words slipped out of her mouth. If her father knew, she probably would have gotten herself grounded. "Ugh. I offically hate this."

Scorpio Σ Sauren Kavvyndesh

Sauren closed her eyes and inhaled, zoning in on the voices before her, a technique she'd learned from her father when tracking runaway colleagues in the dunes. She could pick out a few words, a few names, as students blathered to each other, the slight breeze carrying their voices to her listening ears.

She heard many Zodiac houses and terriories named, Scorpion Harbor among them. Nobody better be di.ssing her home, but a thought interrupted her. Technically, the Harbor wasn't her home. But Scorpio Den was. Simply put, the Den was the hub of all illegal persons and merchandise. But that didn't mean Sauren herself was illegal. Just... her activities. And possibly her entire sideline hobby. Okay, yes, she was legally illegal, but you aren't in trouble unless you're caught. And so far, the Kavvyndesh family had a record of 7 generations of not getting caught.

There were some interesting bits, which she filed away for later blackmail, but overall, nothing of use or value until everyone began school and the gossip started bleeding juicy bits of valuable information and background.

Sauren sighed, somewhat bored, but she didn't want to join in on all the mindless babbling and sharing of personal information.

As if reading her thoughts, Dashte huffed and shifted her position.

"We just need to keep our poisons to ourselves until orientation," Sauren sighed, stroiking Dashte. "Then we can hunt some and study some."

"My parents told me to keep my second power quiet, but yes, both my parents knew about my powers and Dad helped me learn how to use my treespeak and my plant manipulation. Mom taught me how to use my technopathic abilities, since she has them too. She's a Virgo by the way, originally from the Virgin City." Kyra confirmed, glancing between the two.

"Dad says my Treespeak is stronger than his. He can only talk to flowers and a few tree types that we grow in our greenhouse and he usually has to have one of them talk to the other plants if something was wrong before I popped that power. It surprised both of them." She mused, thinking of her family. She glanced up as Tanto left her head, hovering with the dragon. She giggled as she tried to get Silverscale to play with him. No doubt he was getting bored.

"Hey, have you guys been to the dorms yet? Mine has an undersea bedroom! And my common area even has a beachside view! And my own personal beach like I did back home!" The Cancer girl asked the others, tapping her patch. "I met an Aquarius named Opal. She helped me find where I needed to go and even got my hologram patch for me. Apparently students need these to access certain areas of the school for their house."

Luca hummed and gave an exaggerated pose of thought, then went into his pocket and pulled out a little necklace with a small pendant similar to Kyra's, but with his seal on it instead. Letting it swing from his hand for a short glance before tucking it away in his pocket again.

"I mean... It would of been a hard few weeks if I didn't have it" he cooed, a smug smile creeping onto his face. His eyes glided up to the giant clock on the face of the school, it's shorter hand getting awefully close to a certain number he's come to dread. This number other's call an hour, caused him to take in a short breath and smile towards the newcomers.

"Aight! Looks like the orientation's are gonna start fairly soon for you guys... So. I'll cya guys around" He chirped, his voice squeeking and dragging out as he spoke. He pulled on the dragasus' reins, letting her take a few steps back before she started trotting away from the small group. Luca raised an arm to wave them goodbye as the large wings unfolded and took them off the ground.

The dragasus rose high above the school roof, weaving through the towers surrounding the large building. The two admiring the shiney surface of the school as they glided by, a faded reflection beaming back at them from the mirrored walls. Eventually the reflective walls began to crack into plants and stones, leading off into a large area, almost all covered in forestry and large hills. A few buildings could be seen through the large deep green leaves, a few of which began to climb up the hills. Continuing on from there, the two came up to an area behind the school, a small field of tracks and other activities were visible from their height, and following soon after was a giant stone wall. A sheer drop revealing itself just after the tall wall. The bottom of this cliff seemed non-existent, shrouded in shadow with the water fall from the otherside disparsing into nothingness. Just ahead of Luca and Liberty was a cluster of floating islands, all connected by metallic bridges, an even larger bridge leading to the large wall that went towards the school. Some cable cars spread out along the wall to the lands for quicker transportation.

Atop the floating pieces of land held towers of smooth dark purple stone and glass, walking about the white paved sidewalks were students of mostly air and fire zodiac's. More so air took up these islands.

Liberty began searching for a particular tower on a particular floating land, quickening her pace to weave through the towers and land in search of it. Seeing the little landing spot with her favourite symbol painted at the end, leaning towards it with an excited neigh and centered herself to it. Her wings slowing her speed and a small nicker escaping her when her hooves landed on the smooth surface.

Kalden stood back as Maikela uttered some more words, a mixture of slightly more sensible sentences than before, as well as a fair share of curses that he wouldn't otherwise expect. Finally, the girl managed a full-sentence once again. She sounded the most put together of what Kalden had heard from her the entire time so far.

"Ugh. I officially hate this."

And I officially still have no idea what to make of this, Kalden thought, but kept it to himself.

"Well, at least it seems to be wearing off," He sighed instead, partially from relief. Maybe she would recover enough to finally explain more of her mysterious utterings. Or otherwise, at least be well enough for Kalden to feel less responsible over her drugged well-being. Kalden decided to wait until the girl shook off more of the effects.

Tirali's eyes widened. "Orientation? What orientation? Should I have known about this sooner?" She started to panic. "Oh no, what if I don't get there on time? Where am I supposed to go?" Silverscale, having been shaken off by Liberty's departure, flew over to her and wrapped around her wrist again, rumbling softly. The little dragon helped calm her nerves. She took a deep breath, then asked Kyra, "Do you know where we're supposed to be going? This is the first I've heard of an orientation, although I suppose I should've expected it. Or is it different for each House?" She really hoped there would be someone she knew at the orientation.

Maikela Nix | Pisces

Maikela opened one eye to give Kalden a flat and pointed stare. She sighed and closed her eyes again, allowing the throbbing of her head to sieze her entire body, exacerbating her annoyance even further. However, a few minutes of a settled silence, the feeling gradually began to reduce. Enough for Maikela to prop herself up against the wall, righting herself as she grit her teeth slightly.

Her brain still felt like it was covered with fuzz but she seemed to be able to form completed thoughts.

Maikela awkwardly pushed herself up from the wall, standing with the rigid position of a proper lady, falling back onto a life time of training. She offered Kalden a smile that was nothing short of pleasant and sweet, despite he fatigue she felt. "My deepest apologies for inconveniencing you." She purred, the walls of her typical façade slowing being built back up. Her voice had noticeably risen a few octaves higher as she addressed him.

Maikela daintily rested her parasol against her shoulder as she smiled.

Maikela's entire persona seemed to change, from the way she stood to her vocal tone. She seemingly shook off the last traces of giddiness and gibberish, reverting to what Kalden assumed was her normal personality. She was suddenly much more in control, with her features and stance nothing short of perfectly learned mannerisms of someone who grew up surrounded by them. The general attitude reminded Kalden of the some upper-level Virgos from his city. Perhaps she really was related to the Nix company if her surname and mannerisms corresponded as such.

"Nothing to apologize for, miss Nix." Kalden mumbled, wondering if use of her last name would prompt any reaction. He adjusted his carry-on now that the situation had seemingly decelerated. He felt more awkward than before, despite her sweet exterior and voice. Under normal circumstances, the two probably would hardly have a reason to interact, with their strictly different social standings and Houses.

Before the brown-haired teen could say another word, he heard the loud but pleasant sound of chimes, marking the hour. Kalden remembered Riya mentioning that some sort of orientation would start today for new students. The situation with Maikela made him lose track of time, and he decided to not push for answers quite yet.

"Apologies, I should be attending the orientation," Kalden said to fill the silence after the ringing had ceased. "If you don't seem to be needing any help, I should probably start making my way there."

Maikela Nix

""Nothing to apologize for, miss Nix." Kalden murmured in a tone that reflected his acknowledgment of her social stature.
Maikela slightly winced at the use of her sur name, however the expression was fleeting, disappearing the instant that it arrived into a cool mask of neutrality.
The sound of chimes alerted Maikela to her situation with a sobering blow that nearly crippled her.
That had been the point she had been trying to make earlier. This boy, his mannerisms, colloquialisms, and demeanour all pointed to an uneducated, unrefined upbringing in the Virgin Slums.
Maikela had witnessed the slums of the city Virgo first hand. Her father was a prolific traveller, she had been dragged along on kany of these diplomatic exploits, having traveled to every major citadel spanning across all 12 houses. Much to her father's acquiescence, she had cause to visit the infamous Virgin Slums under the guise of a charity project to clean up the underbelly of the city. She was well acquainted with their accent and mannerisms.
On any normal occasion, Maikela would have been scorned by polite society if she was caught fraternizing with such a low life. It would cause her father's blood to boil if he knew...
But then again. Her father had been the one to sell her out and allow her to get drugged, kidnapped and carted away to this loathsome place. This was the perfect opportunity for Maikela to spite him, and all of the prying eyes that constantly monitored her. Ever since she was a child she never had the luxury of a private life. Everything from her first words were broadcasted across the nation. This was her chance to get her father back for the agonizing hours of dance lessons and the many bruises of combat training.

"Apologies, I should be attending the orientation," Kalden spoke up. "If you don't seem to be needing any help, I should probably start making my way there."
"Hmm. Is this orientation intended for new students?" Maikela asked him with her typical formal tone. "Might I join you, then?"
Her pleasant expression did not give away the smugness that laid deep beneath her tone.
Yes. If her father wanted to ship her off to this atrocious school just to use her to get that inside scoop as he detailed in code in his letter to her, he would have to put up with her indecency.

((Hello my dudes, I'll make this short so I can catch up))

It was just like any other day so far, everyone in Corral town was going about their own business and daily routines. I was working in my dad's shop like usual repairing vehicles and small appliances. We were not a well off family, but we were happy, and that was okay with us. I finished up an enhanced toaster and went inside to grab a drink. I saw my mother sitting at the table clutching a piece of paper with a concentrated look on her face. "Mom?" I asked a little concerned. She sighed.

"Honey, I have something to give you." She sighed again. I felt my dad come up behind me.

"What do you have their, Scherryl?" He asked with and edge to his voice.

     "Fetcher, she deserves to know."

"We talked about this! We agreed she wouldn't go, I need her here."

"No, you want her here. We will be fine without her working."

I was getting worried, I had never seen my parents argue. "What is it?" My mom handed me the paper. It was a letter. I read it in silence. My mom looked at my father then back to me.

"Its up to you wether you go or not. Orientation is soon, so if you want to make it you better get packing." I knew my parents wanted to me to be happy, but likewise I wanted to help them out the best I could. "You've done enough for us, dear. Go do something for yourself for once, and make us proud."

I packed all of my jumpsuits in various shades of blue, some other clothes and socks, and other assorted needs. I brought my luggage downstairs and said my goodbyes to my parents. My mother had told me the person who had dropped off the letter said to find them in the town's inn, so I headed there. When I walked in the doors I scanned the room, not knowing who I was looking for, so I walked up to the bar. "Sorry miss, we don't serve minors here." The barkeep gruffed at me. "I'm looking for someone actually." he nodded towards the back, "Then it would be that gentleman right there." I turned to see a well dressed man watching me keenly. I thanked the barkeep and headed towards the back table.

" Hello, are you from the acedemy?"

"Indeed I am. I'm glad your parents made up their minds to let you attend. Not like they really had much of a choice. Either way, I'm thankful they made it easy."

   "When do we leave?"

   "Right now."

I was amazed when the carriage pulled up to the School. It was so much larger than any building in Corral. We were simple folk. I grabbed my luggage my bags and walked right in. And then I suddenly felt right out of place. Everyone else looked so cool and unique, and my grease stains felt less like badges and more like ordinary grime. I found a spot to stand and wait for instruction and studied everyone else to see what they were like.

Kyra put her hand on the other girl's shoulder, giving her a calming squeeze. Opal had told her about the orientation so she knew where it was.

"Hey, take it easy. I spoke with my guide earlier about it. Opal told me it's over in the courtyard in the center of the school. It doesn't start until 11. That's an hour from now. If we get lost, I can always ask the ivy or whatever plants are nearby for directions." She assured the other girl, glad that she knew where to go

Kalden thought he had noticed Maikela wince for a moment, but it was gone so quickly he couldn't be completely sure. He was well prepared to head off down the hallway when the lady beside him spoke up.
"Hmm. Is this orientation intended for new students? Might I join you, then?"

Kalden looked at Maikela, raising an eyebrow. He was not quite expecting her to likewise be a new student, nor that she would ask to accompany him. The Virgo had figured the girl would hurridly take the chance to part ways. After all, they probably had nothing in common, and he would expect her to prefer the company of other higher class types. Despite his polite exterior and kept appearance, Kalden knew he didn't come across as one in any form.

"If you wish," The brown-haired boy responded, his tone indifferent despite his puzzled thoughts. "It seems that they will give us some instruction on what to expect in our time here."

Kalden started walking down the direction he had previously been, realizing he didn't know exactly the direction the orientation was to be held. Riya had mentioned it being in an outside courtyard, so he had hoped he could figure out the way to it himself by following people. He wasn't expecting to guide someone else, and hoped he would be able to find it easily enough.

Luca sighed as he practically fell off the dragasus, leading her to the side of the tower where a stable laid. Bringing her to her usual stall and undressing her of her saddle and bridle, topping off her food and water before leaving her to rest. His feet now bringing him towards the neighbouring tower. The building was large, nearly taking up the rest of the floating rock beside the stable, and had a steep staircase spiraling up to the top with several doors checkering up the stairs. Luca had quickly raced up the stairs until he found his door, a rectangle of red wood with fancy gold details decorating the edges of it. Though, he paid them no mind as he rushed through it and into the messy room. This 'unorganized' unit was encased by dark grey blue walls, and the dark marble flooring was covered by white furry carpets. Some of the furniture ran along the line of antique and simple, the bed being more on the older era side than modern, but it still managed to hold Luca captive every morning. So he figured it did it's job fine.

The lithe boy began going through a pile of clothes for a new shirt, one that smelt better and he didn't wear all night out. Having found a simple white long sleeve shirt along with a red shirt that he tossed over, slipping on the white hood of the undershirt and grabbing a bag of books before racing out of room. The sound of bells of different octaves began to echo from the main building, this noise should of urged Luca to quicken his pace, but it instead only slowed it. Having made it to a normal walk by the time he left the tower, the pace didn't speed up as a cable car announced it's last call to leave. Having just barely made it inside as the doors closed, the cables above moving the car along the empty cliff beneath. Luca had noticed a few girls holding onto the sides of the lift with fear spread across their faces, a small scoff showing on his own as looked out the window to see the building approaching. The car coming to a stop in the giant wall and opening it's doors to let the students out, the bell still echoing into their ears. Still, not providing any urgency to Luca as he merely strolled down the connecting bridge. Thinking of the events of his night and morning. The trick he had managed to pull off had somewhat racked his brain as he thought of what to change to gain the actual goal he wanted. Of course he knew the simple answer, but it would of been too obvious to do so. The thoughts ran on and on until the new students started to pop in, their faces clearing up as he thought more about them.

'They seem.... Okay... Maybe a little too talkative or... too nervous... Or even too confident.. But. They're okay' He thought, trying to match the names to each face as he thought about them. The three weeks he attended the school, he never really bothered to make many friends, mostly due to the fact he was picky about personality, but of course he had to make at least one friend. But other thoughts began to seep into his head and he remembered the main reason why he refused the thought of friends. The whispering words began to overtake his mind and narrow his eyes, growing louder and louder, reminding him of little pet peeves and names told to him, all spoken by faces he used to claim as friends. The words grew into screams and blurred together with each other, escaping Luca's lips in grunts and groans until it caused his arm to swing out, a balled fist connecting to a locker with a loud snap.

Everything in the boy's mind silencing, his hand retreating to his chest with heat and a throbbing pulse. Luca simply stared at his hand, taking in a sharp breath and letting it out with causal "Ow", shaking it off a bit and slipped it into his pocket while looking around to the staring students, another small groan brushing his teeth as he pulled his hood more over his face and hurrying away from the scene. Practically jogging down the hall until he reached a familiar area, managing to calm his breath and let his eyes wander over the faces of the students around. Eventually they landed on a face he recongized, which then caused him to tilt his head. Taking in a deep breath and wandering over to the brown haired male he thought was named Kalden.

"Yooou.. Kinda look lost. Need any help?" he cooed, a gentle smile spreading across his lips.

"Yooou.. Kinda look lost. Need any help?" Kalden heard a smooth voice ask. He turned, not recognizing the owner until he saw the dragasus rider everyone had gathered around earlier. The white-and-red haired teen had a polite smile on his face, but his question had made it occur to Kalden that perhaps he had looked more obviously lost than he realized.

"Ah, yes," Kalden said as he paused to respond to the inquiry. "We're headed to the student orientation in the central courtyard. I figured it is somewhere this way since... I imagine it's towards the center of the school." He reasoned.

"We're headed to the student orientation in the central courtyard. I figured it is somewhere this way since... I imagine it's towards the center of the school." The brown haired male explained, which earned a deflated laugh from Luca as he finished.

"Technically speaking... Yes" He chuckled, glancing at the girl he assumed was with the boy.

"Here... I'll show you guys where it is" He sang, a small laugh still seeping through his words. He gave a small wave to follow and began walking down the hall they had come from. The bells had gone off once more. Though they still provided no stress to Luca.

Doug jogged back to His

Doug jogged back to His father and Riya, not too far off Kyra and Tirali if they want to follow along to get the instruction too. He plops back to his father side. Not bother to read the mood as he yet again spoke out "Do you know about the orientation yet, pops? My friends are worried. Do you know where to go?" He asked Riya too when all his father did was clicking his togue again. He seemed to be doing that a lot.

"If you wish." The mousy-haired boy replied, his face as passive as her own. ""It seems that they will give us some instruction on what to expect in our time here."

"Goody." Maikela mumbled quietly before following suit.

As they walked down the length of the hall, Maikela felt her strength slowly returning to her. She definitely would not be fighting any time soon, no matter how badly she wanted to remove the heads of her captors from her shoulders. But she was finally able to glean intelligent observation.

Her heterochromatic eyes bored into the back of Kalden's neck, which was approximately eye level for her short stature.

She had noticed that he spoke with a certain level of formality that was atypical of those who hailed from a place such as the slums. She could tell by the way his accent slipped in when he was worried that this was a conscious decision. He was choosing to cover up these habits. Why? Was he ashamed? Or did he want others to regard him with the same respect they would regard anyone else? Did he hate being pitied or looked down on due to his upbringing?

Maikela decided to ask some probing, but guised questions. However, before she could get a word out someone else joined them.

That white and red statement hair was enough of an identifier for her.

Maikela unclipped her fan from her belt, politely fluttering it close to her lips to conceal her facial expressions as she peered out over the lace rim. She knew everybody who was somebody. Memorising their names, occupations, and backgrounds took hours of her time. While she would never admit to her father being correct, she would begrudgingly accept his usefulness.

This was Luca Morrison. Sagittarius. Pegasus racer. And not a half bad one at that.

Maikela had to learnt the names of all of the major players and start ups when she went under cover to investigate potential foul play within the races a few years back. She shuddered silently as the recollection drudged up some unpleasant memories. What foul creatures Pegasi could be.

Maikela regarded the two silently as they exchanged some words before plastering on one of her best smiles. Maikela flicked her wrist, clicking the fan shut as she extended her free hand towards Luca. "Greetings. My name is Maikela. But you may call me Mai." She purred, purposefully forfeiting the use of her last name in favour of a random nickname to give the illusion of familiarity.

Kalden's face flushed when he realized the other teen was beginning to lead them back in the direction where he and Maikela had just briefly walked from. He cleared his throat, reining hold of his embarrassment.

"Right. Pardon me. What a complicated layout," Kalden mumbled as he began to follow, despite the fact the slums he hailed from were a much more random jumble of streets and structures. He stepped aside as Maikela went forward to greet the other male.

[Riya Syren | Pisces]

Riya had been stuck answering the Aries father's questions for a while at this point, and she was starting to grow tired. She had dealt with difficult people before, but he seemed to be asking hard to answer questions on purpose. And he didn't like all her answers.

The Virgo boy had long run off at this point, which additionally irked her. She needed to sign him into the system at some point, after she found him, that is.

Finally, the Pisces was saved from any more bombardments of questions as the man's son ran up to his father's side. Despite the interruption, Riya felt a sense of relief.

"Do you know about the orientation yet, pops? My friends are worried. Do you know where to go?" The boy asked.

"It will start in just under an hour from now." Riya decided to answer, her tone more gentle with the younger boy than it had escalated to with the older man. "It will be held in an outdoor area between some of the school buildings. If your father here is quite finished, I can escort you and your friends there myself." She offered.

Tirali sighed with relief as both Doug and Kyra said they were attending the orientation as well. Doug was asking his dad where to go, although his dad appeared somewhat bored and was mostly ignoring him, and Kyra was confident they could find their own way if he didn't find out from the adults. Chimes sounded from somewhere inside the school. Tirali overheard the last bit of Doug's conversation with Riya; she was offering to escort them to the orientation. Silverscale's rumbling purr deepened into a gentle snoring, and Tirali was worried again.

"What do I do with Silverscale?" she whispered to Kyra. "I don't want to have to take him all the way back to my room, and I don't think he'd like being left behind. Do you think I could sneak him in? I mean, he couldn't cause too much trouble, could he?" She hoped Kyra wouldn't say sorry, no pets allowed, but I'll go with you to put him in your room. She doesn't seem like someone who always follows the rules, she mused. Maybe she'll understand.

Luca chuckled again and spun on his heel to face the two, walking backwards as he spoke. His hands raising out of his pockets and holding each other behind his head, a small sting still nagging on the hand he sent into a locker door.

"Oh it truly is. Trust me, I was in the exact same predicament as you when I got here too" He mused, glancing at the girl who covered half her face with a fancy fan. Closing it in elegant manner to complete it.

"Greetings. My name is Maikela. But you may call me Mai." Her voice was smooth, but almost seemed intruding to Luca's ears. He slowed his step and met the extended hand with his own, feeling a slight sting as he shook it. Glancing down at his knuckles and noticed it was somewhat swallon, which only earned a somewhat quiet sigh from him as he looked back at the petite girl with a smile.

"What a pleasure to meet you, my name's Luca" He cooed bowing his head ever so slightly. Spinning on his heel once more to walk normally with the others, now leading them down a different hall. Though this hall seemed to hold an echo of a familiar voice, one he also came to dread hearing. The language it spoke in however was a language from the outer regions of a Scorpio city. But after several lessons from the female teacher he grew to understand it just enough. Quickly spinning on his heel once more and flipping up his hood, walking backwards once again.

"So, where are you guys from?" He chirped, trying to keep his back towards the echo of the old lady's voice.

Maikela observed Luca with a mild interest as he accepted her handshake. She noted his own crisp politeness in response to her introduction. So far the folks here appeared to be much more well-mannered than what she had expected. But then again she had only since met two.

" So, where are you guys from?" Luca prompted to spur small talk.

A lady-like giggle fell from Maikela's lips as she coyly fluttered her fan to her face. "Now, no need to be hasty. I don't usually divulge my home address until the third date." She joked with a playful lilt to her voice.

Such an utterance would have been considered obscene within her station, despite its harmlessness. Maikela simply was enjoying her few moments of freedom before her father inevitably scooped her up and returned her to the chains of high society.

a smirk tugged at the ccorners of her mouth. If only her father could sesee her now. Not only fraternizing, but flirting with these "low lifes". It felt good to spite him.

A sly smile curved Luca's lips to their fullest at her comment, deciding to brush his tounge across his lips to close them and a quick glance away to regain himself.

"Fair enough m'lady" He sang, another bow of his head was given before he straightened his back and lifted his nose.

"But if I was given the option to guess... I'd have my bets on a high class Pisces city... Perhaps the captial?" He mused, his gaze everywhere but the girl, only giving her a sly smirk as he finished guessing.

"I don't think they'll object if we bring the animals with us as long as they behave. Tanto usually just hangs out in my backpack when he's bored. It's big enough for both him and Silverscale if he wants to hang out with his new buddy." Kyra told Tirali, glad she made a couple new friends - including a famous racing celebrity from the Cimmaron Races! at least she hoped to consider him a friend - on her first day aside from the usual plant variety.

"Come on, we should get going. We don't want to be late for orientation." She suggested, Tanto proving her point by diving into her backpack and poking his head up with a happy chirp, using his wing to invite Silverscale to join him. "I honestly don't mind carrying both - my Dad's nekomata loves riding with Tanto whenever we go on road trips. She's about the same weight as Tanto, if not the same length when you include her two tails."

Maikela's comment clearly had affect on the white-haired teen. A smirk broadened on his lips before he quickly glanced away.

Maikela hid her own smug grin behind her fan, instead taking to tilting her head in a semi innocuous expression.

After a few moments, Luca returned her gaze.

"Fair enough, my lady." He cooed in a mellifluous tone and a resigned how of his head. His eyes flitted around the room before only briefly returning to her to deliver a smug grin. ""But if I was given the option to guess... I'd have my bets on a high class Pisces city... Perhaps the capital?"

Maikela began to chuckle but quickly caught herself and morphed the sound into more of a giggle. Even though she was no longer among the upper class and the expectations of her were significantly decreased, did not mean she could lower her guard. She had spent her more life hiding behind her gentle woman façade and was not about to shake it. Instead, her eyes widened slightly in an adorable expression of fake awe. "Oooh." She practically sang the word. A number of other flirtatious comments crossed her mind, however she decided to bite her tongue on those. She did not want to make Kalden too uncomfortable, nor did she want anyone to think her interested. She would rather keep them guessing. Instead, she spoke again in a more dainty albeit self-satisfied tone: "Perhaps."

Kalden busied himself with looking around the establishment, partially tuning out his two companions' playful bantering, fidgeting with his gloves absent-mindedly. He wasn't sure what to expect from the orientation. What were the classes they would soon start entail? The closer they walked to the courtyard, the more discomfort he felt. He was glad if he was going to receive aid in using his Taurus power, but everything right then was unpredictable, and he wasn't used to getting outside help with issues he had. The Virgo hated uncertainty.

"Virgin City," Kalden simply responded to Luca's question after Maikela paused from speaking. "And yourself?"

Riya stifled a sigh. "Sir, we are not supposed to let others inside unless they have already scheduled a reason beforehand. This is for security reasons, as today we're focusing on new students getting integrated into the school. I advise you to perhaps come back another day, unless you would just prefer me to bring a supervisor out to tell you the same."

The crowd's movement started to shift, edging towards the orientation hall. She had half a mind not to attend the boring speeches and applause, but the other half wanted to see what other kind of people were going to study at Nysa. With that in mind, she jumped down from her lookout on the wall, anchoring herself to everyone else's gravity center and began to slowly make her way to Orientation, moving with the flow of the crowd. She spotted a trio of two boys and a girl, one with an obnoxiously pink fan, one with good hairstyle sense, and the last one seeming to shrink into himself in a way.

Make at least one friend, her mother had told her sternly.

But she already had Ashki and Dashte, she had argued.

New friends, her mother had shot back. Outside of Scorpio or Cancer

So she was being banned from making from making friends inside Scorpio or Cancer, Sauren concluded aloud. The argument ended with a frustrated sigh from her mother and a hidden smirk from her father.

Sorry, Mother, Sauren thought with the slightest twinge of regret. I'll try, for you and father.

She started with working her way closer to the Virgo, Pisces and Sagittarius group, keeping her distance but staying close enough within earshot.

A small smirk flashed on Luca before softening out as he paid his full attention on Kalden.

"Virgin City. And yourself?" His tone seemed bored or reclusive and his posture and expression seemed to confirm it. Luca's smile grew into a more genuine one as he turned to walk normally with the others, the old lady's voice having faded away down another hall.

"I'm from the city that never touches the ground.... Otherwise known as Dyeus Tyr" he spoke, a tone more natural than the one he used with Maikela.

"Virgin City..." he spoke in a hushed manner, his gaze floating up to the paintings illustrated on the ceiling.

"I think I went there a few years ago..." he mused, still maintaining a quiet voice. A small scoff came from his nose at the thought of the trip, but he decided not to share the memory, instead giving the sightly taller male another friendly smile.

Despite never having left his homeland before, Kalden knew enough geography to be aware of the city Luca mentioned. While floating landmasses were not uncommon in some regions, such as those near the school, those large enough to host cities were impressive enough to be spoken of in the strictly Earth-bound Virgo House, whether in awe or distaste.

"A city that never touched the ground..." Kalden mused, but allowed his first small smile in response to the Saggitarius' friendliness. "What vastly different places."

The shorter of the two seemed thoughtful for a moment at the mention of Kalden's city. The Virgo was slightly surprised when he heard the other mention having visited, but realized if Luca really was a celebrity of sorts, it perhaps wouldn't be uncommon for him to visit other Houses. Kalden glanced at the other, mildly curious of Luca's reaction, but didn't choose to press more when the other male didn't volunteer more information himself.

Kalden noticed a new presence near their small group, a naturally tanned woman with dark hair walking a short distance away. Kalden could figure she was possibly a southern Water sign from her appearance. She appeared to be heading in the same direction as them, but seemed slightly older, perhaps already a student there. She looked to have noticed the group and Kalden decided to nod in polite acknowledgment in return.

Maikela Nix

Maikela listened quietly to the exchange between her new school-mates. The polite smile never once strayed from her features, nor the fan from gently fluttering against her face. She twirled her parasol over her shoulder as she noticed another girl approaching them. Maikela felt a coldness creep up along her spine as she gazed into those doeful onyx eyes. She would recognize them anywhere. This was Sauren Kavvyndesh. Daughter of Rezjei Kavvyndesh and the primary supplier of many of her father's poisons and by proxy, her own.

Her father practically lived in the underworld of the nation. He knew every major crime syndicate, and illicit operations. He had to know who was an ally and who was a foe. The Nix family has made more than their fair share of enemies by exposing scandals and illegal activities to the public. If her father had a falling out with a certain party, he could destroy their reputations and subsequently their livelihood in a matter of weeks by utilizing his news outlets and sending in spies to dig up dirt. On the other hand, however, he would forge shaky alliances with many of them, essentially guaranteeing their protection by keeping them hidden from the media and covering up any mishaps or mistakes caused by them.
He imparted all of this information on Maikela when she was 12.

Oberon had worked with Rezjei Kavvyndesh on many or occasions. She was pretty sure that he was the manufacturer or source of her parasol and fans. Although she could not be sure because her father never cared to explain where he got his weapons from. This was because Oberon absolutely refused to ever being Maikela along on these escapades into Scorpio, claiming that Rezjei was not to be trusted and to under no circumstances associate herself with the Kavvyndesh family.
And as fate would have it, one of them attended her school.

Maikela's hand instinctively twitched against her parasol but she did not draw the blades. Instead, she offered Sauren a welcoming smile and gestured for her to join them.
What better way to spite her father than not only associating with the Kavvyndesh family, but befriending them.
She did not know if Sauren knew who she was or not, but that did not matter. This was going to be fun.

A polite nod from the Virgo student blew her discreet angle.

Oh well

Sauren sauntered over, eyeing each of them in turn. She recognized the girl; she had her father's eyes, and the unmistakable project she had co-authored, those stupid fans and parasol. So pink. Why on earth have a sleek dagger when one could blind a foe with just pink? The Pisces student's accountrements weren't the only thing she recognized about the student. Maikela Nix, daughter of crimelord and news headliner Oberon Nix.

Fantastic. As if there wasn't enough criminal offpsring on campus already.

No one seemed to be capable of keeping secrets around the man, no one except Rezshei. Sauren had achieved notablility among her cohorts and opponents as a superior keeper of secrets and wielder of intrigue.

Sauren had a hunch she knew the answers to both unspoken questions. One, Oberon was using someone, and two, she hadn't seen that someone attend any of the meetings with Rezshei and Oberon back in the Dunes. Having those two in the same room was like watching two cats fight.

"Hello," Sauren said in a soft voice, nodding to the group as she approached. She left it at that, having nothing of value to elaborate on and to see what kind of people these were.

Maikela noticed the brief spark of recognition that flashed behind Sauren’s obsidian eyes.

Oh yes. She definitely knows.

The woman approached them, inclining her head as she mumbled a softspoken “hello”.

Maikela simply beamed back. “Hello.” She greeted in return before snapping her fan closed with a delicate flick of her wrist. “This is  Luca, that is Kalden,” she gestured to each boy in return with the concealed weapon, “and my name is Maikela.” The smile she gave Lauren seemed innocuous enough, however it was far more layered than what it initially appeared to be. It was very knowing, and very mischievous. She reached out her hand towards the older girl, essentially extending an unspoken and proverbial olive branch.

She just hoped that Sauren would see the value in allegiance and accept this silent request.

When Kyra asked if she wanted Silverscale to ride in her backpack, Tirali looked at the little dragon, then held up her arm. She shook it gently and Silverscale spread his wings in an attempt to stay on her wrist, digging his claws in slightly. Then he saw Tanto beckoning him to the backpack and took off. He misjudged the distance though, running into the side of the backpack. He shook his head to clear it, then dove in beside Tanto. Doug's father was still talking to Riya, although it looked like he was asking a question she had already answered and he was just looking for a different answer. Riya was quite obviously annoyed at his persistent questioning, but he was ignoring that and her polite attempts to tell him to leave. "Hello!" Maikela chirped in that annoyingly high voice of hers. "This is Luca, that is Kalden. And my name is Maikela." She snapped her fan shut with a delicate snap of her wrist. The smile she gave Sauren was layered to the brim with hidden meaning, something Sauren was bosom buddies with.

With that in mind, Sauren regarded the outstretched hand, so delicate and soft, soft paper compared to her rugged, calloused ones. She reached out, shaking the hand firmly, once, before releasing it.

An alliance with Oberon's secret weapon would bring crime scandal to the undergound. Everybody who was nobody in the underground knew of the tense alliance between the Scorpio and Pisces crime lords. It would only add honey to the date if she and Maikela were able to forge an alliance that would benefit them both in their own ways.

"Let's see what we can do, shall we?" Sauren murmured, a dark glint in her eyes, returning the smile with a smirk.

Oooh poisons, this was going to be the alliance of a lifetime, Sauren thought, her thoughts momentarily wandering to her father back in Scorpio. He would have full-heartedly agreed to this alliance, if not for any reason other than to spite Oberon where it would pinch his oversized ego back into size.

"Let's see what we can do, shall we?” Sauren murmured with her own sly smile.

Maikela pulled her hand away with a slight nod directed towards Sauren. She was careful to be mindful of Kalden and Luca’s presence as to not give away too much. She did not want to give the perception of already knowing Sauren as that could dredge up questions she thought best to leave unanswered.

She knew that her father would be absolutely livid if he were to find out about her antics at this academy. Perhaps this would be more entertaining than she had previously imagined. Regardless, Maikela still had a duty here. Collect intel and rely it to her father. Although she wasn’t quite sure how he planned to contact her. He was not usually a subtle man but this situation required a steady hand and a certain amount of discretion.

However, a story such as exposing the secrets behind Nysa Academy would only further the prodigy of the Nix name and would most definitely become the single most purchased headline in the nation. And it was up to Maikela to deliver the scoop. Perhaps Sauren would be willing to help.

Oh yes, with her the possibilities were endless.

"I've got some sandwiches in there if either of them get hungry. Tanto really enjoys smoked salmon and rye bread for some reason. Don't ask me why, it's some weird griffin thing. Is Silverscale allergic to anything? Because I've got PB and J too. I know some dragon types can't have nuts like some humans can't." Kyra asked, glancing over at Doug. Kyra commented, glad that Tanto didn't mind sharing his space with the little dragon as they started making their way to the central courtyard.

"My Dad's Nekomata is worse than one of the Monstrous Nightmares from how to train your dragon when it comes to sparking off too. She has a bad habbit of sneazing an ignition of her flames when she's near certain plants." She added, thinking of her Dad's twin tailed cat

Sauren was aware of the two other boys. Unlike some signs, others were more oblivious to the more delicate matters of business. Like crime and marketing. But something was off about it.

Maikela had offered an alliance too easily, too swiftly, Sauren thought. The Nix girl wanted something, either for herself or for someone. And Sauren was willing to bet a month's worth of scarab shells it was for both, all things considered. But what for and why?

Then again, had Sauren accepted to readily? Only time would tell. Sauren hoped Maikela would turn out better than most of her cases usually did, which was usually in an unmarked coffin or an isolated dungeon.

Setting those suspicions aside, Sauren addressed them all.

"Have you attended Nysa before?" she asked, in a conversationally loud voice so they could hear. Dashte scuttled across her shoulders, her onyx carapace glinting in the sunlight, her beady black eyes watching all the students.

I watched as kids congregated and got to know one another. There were definatly some interesting characters among them. Everyone began to head towards where I guess the orientation was being held, so I followed in that general direction. My body felt all tingly and uncomfortable. I looked down at myself, but myself wasn't there! I had turned invisible in the anxiety of being in a new place. I figured this was for the best, until I bumped into someone.

((Who would like to be bumped? Is anyone scared of ghosts?))
